it makes sense to me. it’s saying the NPCs aren’t attacking people, as in only players attack players, as in PvP not PvE. maybe we are reading it differently idk

All the negative comments I’m reading are ridiculous… we seriously don’t know anything until beta is here.

On paper it actually sounds fun and non zergy like courtyard.
You’ll probably have a two Runners who’s job is to kill foes and tackle other enemy players, while your other team gather supplies. May need to switch out rotations if players get downed ahead, respawns may need to gather supplies until another rotation is needed.

If it’s anything like that, and it’s not too much of a zerg fest, I’m all in.

What I’d like to see is Level ups, getting pieces of equipment after X amounts of Gold. Equipment could be soldiers, zerks, clerics, etc. That would be an interesting Moba idea :p

i dont think individual power creep is a good idea… would make the matches too long imo. gathering supply and/or hiring heros will be the extent of the power creep I hope. that’s the main thing about DOTA I don’t like is that matches can easily last an hour.

LOLOL… It does seem like everyone seems to be simultaneously having completely opposite experiences. I think maybe class-based MMR might have a role also. A few matches by a champion mesmer trying to get daily on a class they aren’t great at or test a new build will knock them down to a level they shouldn’t be at.

Maybe there’s enough data in place to try turning class MMR back on?

i believe justin said he did add a 0.25 profession MMR back into the matchmaker.

which is odd because it was about the same time they turned off penalty for profession swapping… so now you can queue as your lowest MMR class and then swap to your best…. + ???? = profit.

rangers have stealth and invuln as well and lots of evades.

they don’t have quite as much as thf/mes.

but that’s what they trade in order to have 1500 range high damage pew pew pew pew pew. imagine if a thf or mes had a 1500 range longbow.

Here’s what I gather so far:

-5v5
-kill lord 2 win
-2 lanes
-push one lane, defend the other
?? = earn supply
-buy NPCs with supply
-hire skritt bombers to kill gates, doesn’t harm players, skritt die in 1 hit and gate has guards so must escort but also can hire archers to kill guards and a little bit the gate
-regular old treb on each side that can be insta-repaired with supply – this is how your bad PvE friends can still contribute to matches
-“hero” spawns at some point and it’s a 10 sec channel so basically will have a tranquility-esque battle for it. commune hero he does much dmg to push lane and if he gets in enemy base can use big ol’ AoE attack.

What about nerfing turrets ?

I have a really tough time when I play vs a good turret engi on Foefire when I am a melee class.

Specifically when he puts a rocket turret on the rocks above the point with his other turrets on point and he kites and uses CCs and LOS.

it’s a real PITA

idk from my perspective dps guard is pretty good vs glass cannons… it’s the sustain/bruiser builds they have major issues with.

if DPS guard gets any sort of buff, I think it should be a TINY bit more mobility.

depending on the rest of things, the treb could be a very important mechanic.

it could be necessary to FORCE the enemy team to get out of their base and fight you. like an anti-turtle mechanic that is only really useful when one team is being kittenes and bunkering up in their base.

or it could totally suck. it’s all in the execution for foresight of Anet’s team.

Had a bad match around ~2pm PST on Saturday. The room was Mistpedia Tournament Arena C and even though I had a 5-man team we got abjured in less than 10 seconds and they wrecked us. The game instantly went to the next match and we got 500-0’d by them.

We Q’d up again today and got them AGAIN for ESL

nerf please.

Mostly I pug ranked queue because I don’t have enough friends that PvP consistently and are good at it.

I would like to play with a more consistent team with the goal of competing in tournaments.

oh btw I’m on NA

I main warrior but also a decent guardian, thief, and elementalist.

I am rank 80 with thousands of games played and I’ve watched tons of tournaments and streams and read guides etc.

i dont think its very balanced that condi classes can’t take out trebs.

This is a general problem, i think at least burning should work on walls/turrets etc.

I can understand bleeding & c. don’t have much sense but some condis could work.

right like i wouldnt expect confusion to hurt a trebuchet lol….

but treb is the only mechanic where certain builds have an advantage. yes it’s rarely a gamebreaker and it wouldn’t make the top 50 in things to address in PvP, but it’s still what it is.

i believe the game combines all the modifiers before applying them. example if you have +40% duration and hit someone who has -20% duration, then those two modifiers combine to be +20% duration for that particular effect.

also, berserker stance does not work this way. berserker stance is pure 100% condition immunity (but it doesn’t clear conditions you already have).

I assume you’re referring to DoTA/LoL style games. Different beast. Anet needs to stop taking queues from that genre.

I don’t necessarily want to get into a long conversation about map mechanics. I’m more interested in the Play To Win answer.

Given these mechanics (which are unchangeable), what strategy gives the highest likelihood of victory?

just ignore the boss except when

A) you’re behind or extremely close game nearing the end of the match
B) enemy engaged it first and you’re harassing/stealing it from them
C) it’s safe+convenient to do so, AND the nodes do not need help for some reason (for example after you wiped their team, but even then it’s usually best to camp their respawns rather than kill boss).

In a rare case a coordinated team may decide 2 of them are going to just nab it on the way to mid because they are like a LB ranger and mesmer or some combo that can basically insta-kill it. that’s fine if you spend less than 5 seconds on it and continue to where you were going, but most builds can’t do that.

Skip beast. if someone is going far, or watching for crossers are there are none, then that person can make sure enemy is not fighting their beast (and try to steal if they are).

but as part of your opening strategy, skip it, unless maybe if you’re like a LB ranger that can kill it in a few seconds safely. i mean literally a few seconds, not “I think I am pretty fast”

im pretty quick at swapping my build and it takes about 35 seconds or so. have to swap weapon, sigils, amulet, runes, several traits, utilities, and elite.

and sometimes my elite is still on CD when I get the match pop and i’m not able to swap it out if i want to. usually war banner

I think it’s partly assumed that you will get better over time. That’s part of it.

but it’s not an exact science and too many people have too volatile of ratings, not to mention that many of us swap professions and builds around and different teams. So it’s always going to be varying.

Second, if “being matched against a premade when you’re solo is rare”, why have it be a possibility at all? If it is rare, what does it give to the players and the system? It appears it is only reducing the queue time for “high skilled players”.

we inflate party MMR by the number of members to compensate for the advantage.

Somehow I must have missed this announcement but it’s great that you made this change. For about 4-5 days now I have been seeing a higher quality average match.

it is very rare for someone to down you and then go downed and get stomped and you didnt even do 1 dmg to them

as a reminder: if you are in downed state and enemy is downed nearby, always make sure to throw a rock at them before they get stomped >.<

This is true, but you aren’t in this category. I don’t mean that in an offensive way, just that if you’re still getting issues over the next week it may be something else.

well my MMR prob went down when I was playing thief for a bit, but when LB was based on MMR I made it to top 50 solo (after hundreds of games, not some lucky 10-0 or something)

So I really only have that assumption to go on since there is nowhere I can see any of this info.

You are sort of asking for speculation lol, but glad to hear you’ll be putting some data publicly available soon.

Give it a least week before assuming this. We’ve got an influx of new players and they, as well as everyone else, are still settling.

Ok I will continue to chock it up to bad luck and new players for now. I am all for new players…. there is just really NO WAY in game to tell what the heck is going on… if the player is new or if your enemy team won ESL this week etc. WE WANT MOAR DATA! even just a raw data API the community would do wonders with it.

58 wins + 5 byes = 62 points

and still a losing record (when I’ve never been under 50% for a reallly long time) shows that I am more often getting used as an equalizer for unbalanced matches than I am getting actually placed against similarly skilled opponents. Doesn’kitten That’s my main gripe.

Since you’re only 2 points away from your ladder score it could suggest that you mostly get even matches and do at least well enough to not loses point most of the time. I’m not confident any assumptions can me made from that data alone.

If I get time I can run another report for you.

I did a partial-reset of ratings (meaning deviation only) the other day, and you’re ranked rating is still adjusting, so you have a wider than normal ratings range.

The partial-reset had an effect on everyone, so that’s why matchmaking has been a bit off. It should continue to settle over the next week.

I also turned profession ratings on at 0.25 percent, so if you switch professions a lot, those deviations will settle slower.

I’ll have a forum post with more details soon.

This makes some sense that there was a partial reset and profession rating change.

However whatever combination of factors we have going right now, if i queue solo, I have odds stacked against me often.

What were the average odds of me winning those matches is the stat I am really curious about….

I used to be able to run a support build and do very well because both teams were competent and rotating.

Now a support build is utterly useless… I’ll just get stuck defending a point until it’s 1v3 and I’ll survive for a minute or so (thinking help will come because it used to when matchmaker wasn’t so noobish)… but nope i’m more likely to see that my team 4v2 somehow hasn’t managed to de/cap either of the other 2 points yet.

I have inconsistent play times so it’s hard for me to have a team. I usually solo queue. I play only ranked unless for some reason I’m trying something weird.

My MMR is pretty high for a solo player. It used to be that this meant I would get pretty tough enemies to play against. Now it means I get terrible allies ALL. THE. TIME.

I just mean the last 2 weeks or so. It’s been so awful. I look at the map and see things like we are 3v1’ing an ele under our treb (that is destroyed btw), and proceed to 3v0 cap our home point. When I see my team in a 2v2 or 3v3 and I’m not one of them, like 80% of the time they wipe even numbers. It’s also really hard to land stomps because I’ll be winning fights and randomly a teammate will show up and insta-die and rally the enemy. Or a Warrior will vengeance from god-knows-where he was fighting off point, and run onto the point and start attacking an enemy downed body….. like he doesn’t realize he is now going to rally them.

These used to be uncommon things to see in ranked. Now it’s EVERYWHERE!!!

All I ask is that the matchmaker attempt to first give me stronger enemies before resorting to giving me idiot teammates.

Also I ask that the matchmaker try to put people with very uncertain ratings in the same match, and people with lots of matches played and established ratings in the same matches. Let the newbies and smurfs have at each other until they establish their MMR certainty before throwing them into the pot with me and ruining my matches more than ever before.
