i recall games where high MMR = longer queue always – sometimes 20, 30, 40 minutes or more depending how high your MMR is.
and in those games, being in queue for that long was a sort of bragging rights.
Alternatively make daily class tier (light/medium/heavy) wins instead of daily class wins. Creates more diversity and might be beneficial to the people that for some reason only have very few characters and refuse/don’t want to play any others.
…..selling character slots is a tiny part of it as well.
Blu will not make it tomorrow evening. I will find judges for this tournament and i am hoping to see all of you guys there! The people deserve a fun free night
what did i do to deserve a fun free night?
personally i always take my break right after clicking ready. if its something i need more than 1 minute ish for then i leave queue
Seriously its TERRIBLE.
95% of 4vs5 games were caused by people raging IN GAME and then dcing/afking.
Now you have to sit at your pc waiting for a pop. Cant go toilet. Cant get a drink. Cant make a sandwich. It is a complete and utter JOKE.
I hate it so much. please get rid of it. It is literally the bane of my life as far as this game is concerned currently.
or maybe steal 15-30 seconds from the ‘waiting for players’ section and add it instead to the pre-match ready timer
an option would be nice to be able to disable the failsafe mechanism that loosens criteria after X minutes in queue.
it would be saying you’re willing to wait to ensure a good match.
however, if too many people use this option, the failsafes won’t work properly for the regular folk.
methinks math should not allow 1 team to have both extremely high and extremely low MMR players.
methinks there needs to be a maximum difference in skill ranges within a match
methinks no match should ever have both pro and noob players in it
edit: unless they queue together of course. which makes me think… maybe system should use median for parties and mean for pugs. in a 3+1+1 it would be (the median of the 3 × 3 + the MMRs of the 2 pugs) / 5
(edited by Solstice.1097)
i just played 5 pugs vs a premade that included toker nos supcutie and 2 others
and the next game i won by ~350+ points
i have generally not had very long queues
maybe it shouldnt resort to the extremes so quickly.
I can mostly explain the first match. They had a very low rated player on their team, which skewed the average much closer to your team.
dont tell me i lost a point for that match >.<
I didn’t think desertion lowers MMR just LB points??? If that’s wrong then it seems too easily abused if people have multiple accounts. They can get a low rating and queue with their team on their alt, and if their alt’s rating gets too high they can desert some more games? Take turns and always get easier matches.
If anything, desertion increasing your MMR would be a great deterrent against rage-quitting. That way the deserters will be the ones who get “screwed” by having high MMR.

I say dont match based on party size, simply make party size artificially increase the MMR being used for that match. they can still face pugs, but they will be more competent pugs. the larger the party, the higher the MMR you are queued at. you are also then expected to perform better.
i am having a similar issue i was about 54% wins solo queueing ranked and this LB i am 8-12 but i also have 8 LB points which means 60%+ of my games I was expected to lose. why does anet keep using me as the expected loser? sure i’d rather team queue but i rarely have a full team available
if IP took a big nerf and gear shield went down to 2 sec I think engineers would be very close to balanced.
It seems a stomped/dead ally of mine still gives me minimap vision of the enemy player(s) nearby. I don’t think this makes sense. Dead =\= Scouting
Agree or disagree?
personally, and this is just me here, but i’d rather have ~20% block up-time instead of ways to deal with all the things I can’t block.
for its short CD it should be a 2 sec block imo.
…unless you’re bad
shoutbow is stronk
if youre good with it and managing your fire combos and sigil of intel to blast maximum might and land crits on arcing arrow and final thrust, then compared to d/d ele shoutbow is only slightly less damage and survivability but with a tiny bit more mobility and a lot more team support.
bump because it just happened again
So we had a test season. Now we’re having an “off-season”. What exactly is the difference?
the test season had rewards. the off-season is just a leaderboard for our own enjoyment (those of us who care).
at least that’s my take
Just to situate people at the issue about infiltrator strike:
i was wondering when i would get situated. thanks
Bump, been having this issue every time there is a game update the last few days.
Tried to login like 12x now. Internet works great. Speed just keeps starting at only like 50 KBps and slowly drops to 0 and stays there. Its Anet servers.
anyone who takes practice mode remotely seriously isn’t really part of the pvp community.
its specifically the role of thieves to make sure this game isnt just a bunch of GS Mesmers and LB rangers sniping everyone from the clocktower. that would suck. ty thieves.

Other things would have to change if enemy classes were hidden at start.
like… the spawn area would have to be revamped so you cannot leave it and enemy cannot see inside.
they should change it to be 10 sec CD PER TARGET.
then runes of the guardian would start looking a lot more attractive.
i have tested a settler amulet guard with guardian runes specced to do max amount of blocks proc’ing a double burn each block with increased burn duration and damage.
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fVAQRAsf5dlsApVoNDxcI8DRR8QZ5I8CVHAJwji1Vc1MA-TJhAwArLDYd/BAnBgOPEAA
i only tested it in duels but in certain 1v1s it was extremely effective. i blocked pretty much everything and proc so much burn there is no amount of cleanse.
now this was for fun and this build isn’t exactly viable because it doesn’t have nearly the group support of other guard builds, but if the trait to remove boon on burn had a CD of 10 sec PER TARGET then we might start finding effective boon removal in the most UNLIKELY of all places: condi guardian.

The PvP scene in China is also very small. The competitive one is even smaller. KongZhong offered 64 slots for the WTS qualifiers. Significantly less than 50% were used.
maybe because htey are gold farming in PvE and selling it to rich american kids.
That makes perfect sense: farm gold on Chinese servers which are completely independent of the NA/EU servers (which actually are connected).
I realize you’re being facetious but I thought I’d point out the misconception.
That being said China also has an anti-gaming addiction law which literally prohibits anyone under the age of 18 from playing more than 3 hours per day.
Ok so maybe they are selling it to rich Chinese kids then. You know, since the kids can’t farm enough of their own gold due to 3 hr limit.

I will never touch those buttons ever again.

Lol “foolikittenhat”

Random n00b goes to Mists. Tries to click ranked arena but can’t. Has to unlock it by buying pass from an NPC. They talk to NPC. NPC says, “You want to go into the Ranked Arena? You must be either braver than me or much more foolikittenhat will be 10 gold for the pass” n00b is forced to think twice about going into ranked arena.
10g is not much but it would be a deterrent against a drunken stumbling noob accidentally face mashing the “compete” button.
And maybe just award someone the ranked arena pass for free if they win X number of unranked games.
For me it would just be as simple as “do we need more CC and damage, or more boons and condi clear” ?
I think the players who are proficient at multiple classes and wise enough to quickly look at comps and know if they should swap…. that is an advantage that the player has earned through experience. If you find enemy teams all swapping to hard counter you, there is nothing stopping you from loading in as something different than you’re going to play, then swapping to your real toon, to throw them off. Swapping goes both ways.
this happened twice again today.
it is most definitely worse than before.
you lost me when you said get raplion to beat abjured.
you cannot be serious.
that is not the true fix.
the true fix is to find a way to increase player participation so that the matchmaker can be restricted to ONLY match teams with very similar MMR, and 1 point for win and -1 for loss, so that players will naturally max out on their leaderboard points. No matter how many games they play, they can’t get past their personal limit without getting better as a player or team.
if the top team was unmatched in MMR, they would not ever get a game in queue. but if it’s going to be a guaranteed roflstomp, why should they get one?
You can’t just increase the player base in PvP. For the sake of argument, imagine they changed the rewards to Gold or Gems. Every PvE player and their mothers will want to PvP till their heart’s content. You’ll obviously get a large amount of grinders on the leaderboard. Same for MMR; players will have to grind their wins to increase their MMR to match a higher tier team of 99wins and 0 losses. Teams will never reach it.
Things wouldn’t change.
You missed my point but probably because I stated it poorly.
My point is without a big enough player base the matchmaker can never be effective without super long queues so its inherently flawed and no “fix” will solve issues without creating new ones, unless somehow the population changes.
There is hope because as PvE players reach end game and get their legendaries and whatever else, a good portion of them move to WvW or PvP as the end game. Lots of long time PvE players are starting to get into PvP – I know this because I’m in a large PvX guild and I have personally witnessed the slow shift over time.
i have played mostly solo queue plus teaming with various friends and randoms. i play mostly war/guard/ele/thief. i have ranger/engi/necro/mesmer too level 80 but haven’t played a lot of pvp with them.
over the last year I also have watched a lot of top level matches and streams and read all the tips from the best players I can find.
i feel i have a really solid grasp of rotations and map awareness as well as strategy.
but i have never been on a serious team that plays regularly using TS and attempting to compete on a real level.
i’d like to though. i can usually play at least a couple hours every day if not more.
i’d like to form or join a team that wants to compete in tournaments.

Honestly, the back-end server that powers matchmaking also tracks disconnect time but is ignorant about the game’s actual state. It doesn’t know when the game goes from that ready-pending state to actually playing. We could add that, or we could have it implied through other data sent from the game server to the back-end, so I guess it doesn’t really matter.
I’ll run it by the team about not counting disconnection time until the game starts.
One argument to be used when bringing it up is that I know several players who play one class, but have multiple toons for that class, because each one is preset with a different build. The argument I would personally position in this scenario is we need either:
A) build templates/saved presets
or
desertion timer does not count until 10 seconds before match begins.
(edited by Solstice.1097)
they played a few games a day max because their queues were long even in prime time and there wasnt really any competition anyway so no fun.
They just beat DoD 2-0 and in the 2nd match DoD didn’t even get on the scoreboard.
There really isn’t any competition. There are probably players close to good enough, but not that have played together and hashed through all the details long enough to compete.
So it sounds like you can only swap classes with no penalty if you do it before you go into the match, which means you can’t see comps yet. After you load the match and see “oh we have 2 other bunker guardians, great I need to swap” then that swap will count towards your 1 minute deserter.
Which will rarely matter I suppose. Only in a situation where you swapped and then had a short DC later that combined put you over the 1 minute…
And to clarify, the grace period starts from loading into the map, correct? The ‘waiting for players’ segment is not exempt?
And no penalty for profession swapping either? (assuming it doesn’t take you more than 1 minute to log back in) ?
Also, is the 1 minute cumulative or consecutive? Example someone swaps toons and it takes them 35 seconds, then they swap in match again later and it takes them 35 seconds. Deserter?
so i think i understand but someone please confirm i am not crazy.
if i dont like my class composition I can relog and if it doesnt take me more than 30 seconds there is no penalty?
and that just changed yesterday right?
We need a Voice Game System like Tribes: Ascend
Shazbot!
That also would be awesome. But as GW2 uses way more keys than Tribes: Ascend, I don’t know if it would work well. I, for example, have no idea where I would map more 4 keys with easy access in my keyboard control setup. You need one key with each access, e.g. V.
You press V then menu pops, then next V is help and 1 is close. So by fast tapping V->V->1 would be ‘help close’.if i push V-V-1 i will do a double dodge roll and auto attack. lol
i have no problem reaching for the F1, F2, etc keys for pings. Because I don’t have to move my mouse to the mini map. because F1 would be help home, F2 help mid, F3 help far, F4 help where I am etc.
lol@deflaut.settings, anyway “vv1” was just example.
yea default settings >.< im 6’3’’ and a musician. so i have big and dextrous hands. i can get used to almost any key binding setup lol
The only players that truly seem to be motivated to answer hard questions and break their legs to grow an inch are Dodge or Die, everyone else just lacks the will
Nooo you are wrong I has the will too!!!
