Agree totally. I don’t see myself buying the expansion..
If i read correctly, you will also be required to participate in PvP to acquire the Gift of the Mists?
This game is officially becoming, “Play the game the way WE want you to play.”
I main an Engi, and have recently tome leveled a Thief and Warrior. I’m now leveling a Mes – the old fashioned way, and I am now at level 18. I’m not seeing much that makes me want to continue….
I know that professions don’t often shine until level 80 (Engi for example). But it seems that Mes is mainly Perplexity and Torment – two of the most kitten-poor Conditions at the moment.
Don’t get me wrong. Mes, in WvW usually drive me crazy when I’m on my Engi.
When does it get better? Is it Condi? or Damage? What am I missing?
It was actually our superior Asuran technology that harvested the HGH from humans. Otherwise, what good are they? They are HGH farms, nothing more.
Very similar to what I’m running except I use Pistol/Pistol and use Tool Kit in lieu of Flame Thrower in certain situations.
I should have been more clear.
Could someone who does use Mod Ammo post a link to their build?
Can anyone, better at math then me, explain why Modified Ammunition would be chosen over Incendiary Powder? What build would justify it?
I created this build fully realizing that it’s based SOLELY on the fact that I prefer the Pistol Pistol, SD, high mobility, Tag’em-N-Bag’em play style.
Rifle is, to me, too ’pink, ’pink, ’pink, Net, ’pink, ’pink, ’pink, ’pink ….
Yawn.
Maybe I should see a doctor about ADD?

Cele armor is junk in wvw, knight and rabid are much much better. Also you can easily reforge your armor to any stats in mystic toilet
You clearly don’t “get” Engi if you are willing to make such drastic changes to an Anet update.
The Engi motto is, to borrow a phrase:
“Improvise, Adapt, Overcome.”
@PierPiero
Good input on Elixer B. I never use Elixers, or HGH. Elixer B has some good things going for it. I prefer a more boon-passive playstyle, but I will try it.
Thx
There are probable a lot of Engineers like me, whose only Ascended Gear is Celestial. And if you are also like me, the idea of leaving it in bank to “go Condi” in the post-patch world is depressing – considering how many hours you spent crafting acquiring it.
My play style favors Pistol Pistol and high maneuverability, using dodge to avoid damage rather than relying on Lemon Grass. My build exploits the Condi nature of Pistols, but also is Static Discharge. To exploit the best of both worlds, I rely on using HGH for Might stacking via the Elixer and Mortar Guns and Sigils and Runes. With out even trying (or kit-ing elixers) I can maintain 12 to 19 stacks of Might with ease.
Some other examples of pure damage:
Poison Dart Volley: 4,400 crit damage
Tranqulizer Dart: 850 crit damage
Blowtorc: 1,700 crit damage
Prybar: 3,300 crit damag
Suprise Shot: 2,200 crit damage
This is on top of stacking – almost at-will – Burning, Poison, Bleeding, Confusion, Torment, Blindness all at once.
Plus there is constant access to Vigor, Regens and Heals on short cool downs.
It holds it own in WvW for small-group roaming, solo camp flipping and Zerging and Tower Seiging. And helps remove conditions and gives heals to Team Mates.
This is one of the most satisfying build in my 4,100 hours of playing Engi.

Few people know this but you can change the various music playlist in the game to anything you want rather easily with about 10 minutes time and a selection of mp3 files you like. Here’s an article how.
But that won’t allow me to disable just the combat tracks, will it? Also, I can’t find the Music folder. Not were it says it is in the link you provided.
Thx for replying…
Please give us a switch in Options to disable combat music. It just gets old after too long. And, frankly, it’s disrespectful to Soule to beat us over the head with it till we’re sick of hearing it.
Anet incorporated a great deal of humor into the Engi, something which keeps it fun. Box of nails, belt buckles that shoot, rams that pop out of God knows where, acid bombs and fumigate that sound like “you know what”, whacking someone with a pry bar, etc., etc., etc.
Add to all the above the mile-a-minute animations of my cute Asura and the Engi never gets old.
Is this trait applying 10 stacks of Vuln? I never see more than 4.
I’ve got Tomes of Knowledge burning kitten in my pocket. With 4,000 hours on my Engi, I’ve only every really dabbled in other Professions and usually deleted them after 10 to 20 hours of play time.
I’m bored.
I like the fact that Thief is Medium Armor because I have lots of Account Bound Ascended stuff that can be used.
My play style is primarily WvW and I like roaming and camp flipping – some zerging, but I usually get bored and wander off.
Do you think I would like a level 80 thief? I’ve only ever taken one up to about level 20.
Next up: Change kittenawful skin for Mortar.
The FT build looks nice.. I Don’t Know that we can go ft with celestial but i Like the dubble pistol thing. So i want to try it. It seems like the ft hgh juggernaut “Meta” with more condition
Don’t laugh, but I’ve been running Ascended Celestial P/P Static Discharge for the last 4 months or so, and it’s fun as kitten. EG, Rocket Turret, Tool Kit.
I don’t think it’s even debatable that the number/diversity of builds has dropped. It’s just mathematics, pure and simple.
However, that’s not to say that numerous fun and viable builds aren’t possible – they are. But the reduction in choices and the narrowing of play style is a fact. I used to make minor tweaks if I was solo roaming and flipping camps or manning a ram at a keep wall, etc. Now I never change a trait selection unless it gets nerfed.
With my Static Discharge build, I’ve used the Superior Sigil of Energy since well before the Mother-of-all-Updates. Gotta be mobile…..
However, with the Update, the only really viable upper tier trait in the Tools line (for me at least) is Adrenal Implant. I used to use that Aegis trait thingy.
With the Sigil at almost 10 gold on the TP I ask myself, “Should I just eat the loss and exchange it for something else?” It’s in an Ascended Pistol, and I don’t want to pay (real) money to salvage it.
Anyone else faced this dilemma?
The challenge of learning to play a 3 kit Engi, (I’m assuming you are new to Engi?) is staying alive long enough to learn which rotations to make, in which order, as different situations arise. If you aren’t really proficient with Nades (I’m not and I have 4,100 hours on Engi, lol), you might want to change them out for something else. Also, maybe drop Shield for another Pistol.
Also, maybe trait heavily in Alchemy and Inventions, and just try and survive long enough until you learn your rotations.
Superspeed is 2 seconds. How can this be abused or used to run around with? Not being snarkey. I’d really like to know.
I have to say that the more I play, the more fun I’m having. I’m now all in to Inventions for Mecha Legs in lieu of Steamlined Kits. The constant proc’ing of attacks was driving me crazy.
Inventions is showing some real promise….
You bring up a good point, Deltaray. I don’t think most people realize(d) how well cripple synergize(d) with Static Discharge. That’s why Sitting Duck was probably nixxed, because no one was selecting it.
It was a great way for SD’s to still get benefits from Condi’s….
My build (the one that I’ve been running for about the last 4 months or so) hasn’t really changed.
What I miss, is the ability to make minor tweaks as situations permit. I used to run in PvE 2,2,0,4,6 ( a hybrid P/P Cele Static Discharge — I know, I know, don’t laugh….it’s fun as hell). In WvW I would switch to 0,6,0,2,6 – but core was the same.
This build is still viable and in fact even more powerful. But there are some traits that are completely useless to me now (Alchemical Tincitures), which was not the case pre-update.
I have to agree with the OP. I really, truly, believe that the entire reason for the change was to make it easier for Anet to keep the professions “balanced”.
The game has changed from, lets say, 100 different possible builds to 25 different viable builds. The actual number is not really relevant, but the number of viable builds HAS decreased – which is good for Anet (it makes their job easier) but not so good for us players.
Use mortar kit. Grenade are a short range weapon now (wich i think it is ok into) Mortar now fills long range gap and tbh it does so very well (but not overpowered, so don’t expect wonders).
It may take some getting used to…. but man, Mortar Kit fells so static. I mean it seems that you really have to sit in one place to use it – which makes a Medium Armor profession very vulnerable.
With nades, you could/can throw them on the run and even over your shoulder.
I think it’s OK. Switch to flamethrower for flame shield, that’s the least intrusive one there is.
should all be like that. steal that idea and place it on all of them. various aura.
fireshield on flamethrower/grenades
frost aura on bombs.
chaos armor on elixir gun/medkit
mag aura on Toolkit.
I like this idea. I mean, really, switching to Took Kit (for 20 seconds of swiftness) proc’s as 1 second of Speed? Really?
Anet,
Please consider making the “attack” only proc while in combat. There is no reason for proc’ing outside of combat when I’m only using “switching kits” for speed to cover maps.
If you are hurrying to join combat, you enter combat with a cool down. Also, I hate aggro’ing any wildlife by switching kits.
These two traits do not synergize well.
Edit: And why does switching to Tool Kit proc as increased speed? I’m switching to Tool Kit FOR increased speed. The proc is redundant.

This build is a glass cannon with a Flame Thrower. The problem with the Flame Thrower is that it fairly immobile – which is the opposite of what you want if you are running Zerker/Assassin with no traits selected in Inventions/Alchemy.
This build might be viable if you are working in close concert with the other members of the dungeon party, and they know how you are traited and how to leverage what you are bringing to the party.
As is, it’s a very narrowly defined build. Once the enemy gets within melee, you’re toast.
I’ve been running this for the last month or so (I have 3,900 hours on my Engi and have tried many, many different builds):
It’s been crazy fun. It has Kits, but the PP along with Static Discharge packs a combined Damage and Condi wallop.
Works for me in WvW and PvE.
I’ve been running this for the last week, and it’s been the most fun I’ve had in quite awhile. This is even better than the old bug on the FT which allowed for a double-tap on Napalm a couple of years back…..
What I like about this build is that I rarely switch out of pistols – and yet, with the two tool belt skills and Tool Kit, I can still crit well about 1500 – 3500 damage while applying condi damage to multiple enemy. I’ve seen Pistol Blowtorch crit 1400 in Damage alone, and the Poison Dart Volley stack upto 2400 Damage. Suprise Shot routinely hits, along with SD, for 2200.
This build tags a lot of enemy – and not just “token” tags to claim bags. Plus it’s pretty tough and maneuverable. I routinely stack one minute of quickness which allow for lots of dodge/leave bomb for additional 1300 damage.
Anyone else running Celestial Pistol/Pistol?
You don’t have to worry about Kit Refinement putting you into combat because even at the moment it will only trigger the effect while you’re already in combat.
This is wrong. It procs both in and out of combat. One of the worst aspects of this, is that if you are using it with Speedy Kits, it will often aggro NPC creature while crossing the WvW map.
Hey just looking at acid bomb, it says it does 210 damage. I don’t see how this is the highest damage for an engi when landing jump shot, for example, does 405.
I do, however, see that acid bomb lasts for 5 seconds. Does that 210 damage pulse every second?
I’ll add my two cents. The acid bomb damage crits and is unblockable. I once counted 19 hits for over 21k damage, spread over a Tower Lord and the other NPC (in WvW).
Eight,
Are you aware that Perplexity in WvW does not do the same damage as in PVE? It’s not that great of a condition in WvW.
You might consider Knight armor/trinkets (for added toughness) and use Superior Rune of the Wurm, which adds quite a bit of Ferocity. My SD build goes 6 deep in the Tools Trait line, so that, along with Wurm Runes gives me plenty of Ferocity.
I too have done/noticed this.
Also, we can dish out a huge number (and duration) of cripples. I often run my Static Discharge build with Pizza – while selecting the Sitting Duck trait for 3 seconds immobilize with rifle net/glue bomb and (I think) 12-ish seconds of cripple and 5 stacks of Vuln. for 12 seconds. Throw wrench stack more cripple and vuln’s.
In PVE this cripple/immobilize can CC a ridiculously large number of NPC.
The only weakness of blind and cripple in WvW is that 17 seconds of cripple can easily be wiped by one condi clear.
(edited by Soon.5240)
Just for grins, sometimes when I’m mat farming on high level maps, I wear my Assassin armor + Knight trinkets and select the Static Discharge trait. The Kits I use are Battering Ram, Rifle Turret (for Hidden Shot only) and Tool Kit. With Backpack Generator and Mango Pie it’s a surprisingly powerful and tough melee build. It’s fun for a change.
It’s a solid build. You might consider swapping out Hair Trigger for Rifled Barrels for a little more reach in WvW. I run the same three kits and am constantly swapping them – so the reduced cool down on the rifle is not really needed. By the time you get back to the rifle, the CD’s should be completed.
Also, I sometimes run with Mango Pie. It proc’s 80’ish heal per tick which brings your total heal to around 250 per tick with the Backpack Generator. I use this build to solo camps with no problem.
Are you thinking WvW? Dungeons? PvE, PvP?
You sir, are a dangerous influence on this game. Do you not realize that what you did was impossible?
Lol,
Loved it!!!!!!
Anyone try running with this armor rune? With my Condi Engi, I typically just run Superior Rune of the Undead and two pistols (WvW mainly).
I crafted the Defender Runes (bought everything on TP), and I can see some advantages.
The ability to proc 5 sec of Aegis (10 cd) by use of a heal skill is not bad. I’m typically dropping a turret when I’m in trouble anyway. Wiki also says that: “The bonus 6 heals for 3920 + 0.6 * Healing Power at level 80.”
And Tool Kit number 4 is also another available block.
I would select armor based on which weapons (Pistol/Rifle) you enjoy playing with the most.
With Pistol (Condi) you might choose Dire. With Rifle (Power/Precision/Ferocity) you might use Assassin or Zerker.
Arantheal,
who is recommending turret builds in this post?
Rocket Boots can also be used.
A fun PVE build is to focus on Confusion and Blind.
If you run Pistol/Bomb/Tool Kit you can trigger Confusion 3 ways. On PVE NPC which are fairly predictible, it’s easy to stack confusion. With Acid Coating and Go for the Eyes trait, along with Pistol 3 and Bomb 4 (and Flame Thrower 5) you can proc Blindness almost at will. Blindness will limit damage that you take.
It’s fun to watch a blind NPC confuse himself to death while missing you.
Lol, this Engineer is lmfao.
Southsun is an island in Sea of Sorrows. Level 80.
