F2p is healthy for the game? Ahh, thats the worst joke i ever heard)

It’s like you just ignored everything Crimson Clouds listed and instead still have your head stuck in the ground. The limitations are extremely well done. It basically eliminates the possibility of making multiple accounts a day to troll until you get banned, while minimizing the limitation of the gameplay of those F2P people. I was 100% against the F2P before today, and now am 100% for it.

Taimi though being really cool isn’t all that unique and special, just another disgruntled Asura.

Please correct me if I’m wrong, because I don’t have an Asuran character, but isn’t she the only Asuran who has a physical disability that uses her golem to overcome this? He’ll, isn’t she about the only physically disabled character that we have in the game? Physically diasabled characters are so often depicted as weaker or depedent on others. In terms of MMOs, this is one of the most unique and strongest characters written. And I’m sure the physically disabled people who play GW2 love seeing themselves represented as independent and fully capable of living their lives. Disgruntled? She literally shrugs off her degenerative disease and is ready to fight an elder Dragon.

But sure…she’s not unique at all?

If you think there’s been a change, honestly I’d recommend posting in the dungeon forums to find out if it’s true. While this topic isn’t dungeon specific, the people who frequent that forum both understand the math behind the sigils and keep a well documented track of how they work. They would be the best people to let you know if there has been a change.

Need to make Support give credit

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Sorin.4310

Sorin.4310

Support roles get rewarded the same as DPS roles, Condition Damage Roles etc but all roles are required to do some sort of damage to at least one enemy in order to get a reward. This is for both Dynamic events & PvP.

Perhaps more context is needed in your post for me to fully understand what you mean precisely, but as a general rule, you only need one or two hits per mob or enemy player, and you get credit on their death, which equals reward whatever your role is.

He’s going under the assumption that since Revenant apparently have defined roles based on the legend used, the entire system in the game that tracks participation should be overhauled to give players who want to heal the zerg the entire fight credit for the event.

And to add onto what I said, the OP doesn’t understand the impact his suggestion would have. It would require an overhaul in the participation tracking like I mentioned but also require an overhaul in how scaling is done.

Can you actually do that? Can the revenant actually spend 100% uptime purely putting out heals without damaging anything? Or is there downtime where they have no choice but to wait and attack. Legitimately asking I didn’t play the rev more than a few minutes this weekend. Because if they can’t, then they’re going to get credit by attacking during downtime.

[Suggestion] Adding Combo Field Calls

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Sorin.4310

the fields are obvious enough to recognize to anyone that has paid enough attention and has played GW2 for more than a month, don’t need to waste voiceover work for it.

Oh how I wish this was true…

The amount of people I’ve met who have readily admitted they don’t know how combo fields work is rather disappointing. While I think this game has tried to oversimplify in a lot of areas, this is one area where I wish they would put in some tutorials.

Edit: What might be an interesting, but subtle change would to have some kind of highlight on screen to indicate what field your combo finishers would trigger on, if you are in one. A hue around the endurance bar could be subtle, but helpful. I’d like it so when someone overlaps fields I’d know which I’m actually about to blast.

Melee or Ranged

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Sorin.4310

Sorin.4310

In general, ranged combat is easier (especially in groups) because there’s less chance of being hit. And in open world content with large groups, almost everything can be completed by people ranging and autoattacking without really doing anything. That being said, most classes do more damage with a melee weapon (ele, necro staff in lich form being the exception – well and engineer is lacking melee). Which is fair I think. If being in melee range has a higher risk of taking damage, it should probably also deal more damage.

please help - ascended armor question

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Sorin.4310

Sorin.4310

When you do the new forge recipe, it comes back as the ascended skin – not the one you transmuted to. This would probably work, but you’d have to forge it twice. One to get it off stag skin, and a 2nd to get it back to the stats you want.

Edit: You might be able to do it once actually. You could use the insignia of that stat you already have. I’m unsure if the recipe blocks switching it to the stat it already is.

Also why are some of you ganging up on Julie Yann?

She exaggerated a little in some comments but technically everything she said is true. You really don’t need to have things like vigour/protection/aegis and whatnot provided you know when to evade/block yourself.

I just find it kind of peculiar to read her type a comment like that which is technically true, then see someone reply to her and claim it to be the stupidest thing they’ve ever read. Excuse me?

-shrugs-

Well, it was kind of a silly thing to say when you’re down to comparing the haves to the have-nots. If we were balancing Revenant toward itself, they’d might have a point, but that point is quickly lost when you’re without and someone else has a plethora of said effects.

Ideally, more classes would be slow and thoughtful like the Revenant, but that just isn’t close to the case. And making 1 more class spammy to fit in with the only 7 (8 if you wish to include Necromancer), unfortunately makes more sense than fixing the whole game in one fair swoop (already proven that they wouldn’t do). And leaving them without, well that’s not a great option either…

I’m all for having a slow and thoughtful class. But that is kind of irrelevant in terms of DPS (the main complaint) and Miku’s OP (bad traits).

Look, it’s only garbage if your main focus is “DPS kill it faster”. This game is meant for more than just highest damage output. Remember, you sacrifice defense when you go pure offense, hence the term Glass Cannon. We already have Thief and Mesmer burst metas for that. Players like me who can appreciate a support role will thrive. I admit that I am biased in that play style, since my main was an Infuse Monk in GW1 PvP

Give Colin a chance. The community already gave him a hard time with the Pre-Purchase wave of complaints. I think it’s time we shared a little praise for how well the game looks, and how our GW universe is moving forward.

Why are you defining how to play the game for other people? What if all they want out of the game is high DPS? They paid for the product – they get to enjoy it how they want. The people critiquing Revenant aren’t saying take away it’s tankiness or support. They are saying open it up to more options. They are literally asking it to be more diverse, not to switch its focus. Why are against this?

LOL, they should definitely let us keep precursors if we find them. Knowing my luck, i’ll probably get my first one after almost 7k hours and won’t be able to keep it (:

Not from the forge. Each time you remake the beta character you get a new set of dozens of exotics. That would clearly crash the market. But yeah, a mob drop would be pretty crushing.

What I’m saying is that you need to learn and understand how to use the traits. GW2 is a game with dynamic fight mechanics. The traits you select assist your game play. If you feel the traits are weak before even trying to learn to use them, then it’s quite possible the Revenant doesn’t fit your Zerker play style. From what I’m seeing, this profession is more support and sustain than 1-hit kills.

You basically just explained exactly why the Revenant’s traits are problematic. Well… thanks I guess? :/

I was thinking the same lol. He basically proved your point while thinking he was defending these dull traits in PvE. Hilarious!

It’s not fair to make fun of Purple Miku’s lack of diversity. Just because he wants to play only Zerker builds, doesn’t mean he can’t play as a Revanant. Once he learns to trait properly, and equip the appropriate armor specs and runes, he’ll be able to do damage, albeit no 1-shot kill.

Remember, GW2 combat is not based on DPS hack and slash mechanics. If you go full Glass Cannon, you will be punished by PvE monsters who are anti-DPS. A boss that can absorb 80% of physical type attacks will wreck you.

The best players adapt to situations on various characters. That’s why I have one of each profession.

Edit – To add, one should never rely on 1-shot type builds. All or nothing has the biggest risks.

the dps sucks on revenant. going as offensively as physically possible at this point in time, i swear it felt like i was doing negative damage. i want a dps option for traits, and a dps legend to try out, or at least a decent condi set up. if i wanted to play a healer i would go to a different game.

Or you could play a different class? Not everyone will like the playstyle of the Revenant or have an affinity for making it most useful.

If all you want is DPS why not just play the classes that are already doing a great job of it. The Revenant won’t be everyone’s favorite or main class. There are 8 classes already and I don’t like playing every single one of them. Like seriously. Why does every class need to be a pure DPS build for you? Just don’t play the ones that aren’t set up for that. Nothing about Revenant screams DPS. You shouldn’t be surprised by your experience.

Also you’re playing with Celestial armor and weapons if you’re going with the armor it starts you with. That’s gonna bring down your damage as well.

Because every class is suppose to fit the role of DPS, support, control? Like the basic tenants of the game anet sold. No one’s asking for it to only do DPS. Why limit a class to just 1-2 things. Why not open it up to fit people’s playstyles, whatever they may be?

Mallyx with mace + axe and all the dpsing traits you can find does good condi damage in pve.

All the weapons and traits for power damage builds aren’t in this version of the Rev.

Exactly this. Been running with a condi build using a mix of rampager/carrion gear and it’s working rather well. Wish I could test it with sin gear but sadly we don’t get that option.

You might consider it good but one look at what condi builds can do on other classes and this falls far short of it.

We’re supposed to be testing the existing functionalities of the Rev in the base game. Those functionalities are “tanky” (Jarlis), “condi” (Mallyx), and “heally support” (Ventari). We do not have the dps line as yet, so yeah… your dmg output is going to suck this time around.

Yes, these types of “roles” do not necessarily fair well in the current pve environment because (let’s face it) the current mob ai is…well, sucky. Doesn’t mean its not ‘doable’ for testing, just not ideal imo.

Ok sure but we have 4 trait lines and none of them are suited to DPS.

Edit: and yes I know more on coming but were going to have to pick at least 1 of these.

I think it’s a L2P issue. Revenants have a specific role in combat, and it’s up to the player to utilize the mechanics for maximum effectiveness.

Yeah that’s not it at all. These traits are down right awful. I see use in PvP but for PvE this class is going to be absolutely terrible with this current iteration.

The Horrible, Awful, Tragic Death of My Build

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Sorin.4310

You had no problem because you had plenty of defensive stats from you gear. Good players don’t want defensive stats, ordinary player can survive without defensive stats but prefer having some as a cushion, bad players NEED defensive stats to survive PvE, which is your case.

Actually I had full Zerker trinkets, 2 pieces of zerker gear, and 4 pieces of celestial gear all with runes of strength. Had 300 in Fire (power) and then would play with the others depending on what I needed, (more VIT and Healing Power? no problem. Don’t need it? Can do 200-300 precision then) I selected my stats and boosts depending on what I needed, now all that customization is gone and I am left with a character that I have to pay a bunch of money if I want to change my stats.

Ascended trinkets are incredibly cheap. Don’t switch out your armor. Switch those out.

Also, in this post you claim that if you didn’t need it, you went the extra precision line. So there were times when you didn’t need defensive stats from trait lines, and yet in those same instances with the update, where ele has gotten more powerful, you can’t survive? Interesting.

Ele doesn’t need any defensive stats for PvE with enough practice. Access to blinds, vulnerability, vigor upkeep, strong AoE healing. I suggest practicing some more. My sympathies if you play WvW. That I understand more. Though again, ascended trinkets really are quite cheap. Related to that, you were hampering yourself previously. Trait lines should be picked on traits, not stats (which is why the change was implemented, at least in part, I believe). If you cared enough to be swapping, you should have been swapping out trinkets to get the stats you wanted, and then used the traits most beneficial regardless of the associated stat bonuses. So I guess in a way anet has forced you to play smarter. Kudos to them.

Really, you must go back and actually read my comment rather than speculating on my observations with silly replies. I’m not going to waste my time defending my comment and ultimately it was aimed at the community for how the community reacts to it is a true indicator of how such actions are perceived.

For some (the minority I’m happy to report) such instances are not considered griefing (and I’m discussing the deliberately TARGETED intimidation, not the incidental or accidental kind) and wherein the majority of the community who have some degree of self-respect and who do not find it amusing to deliberately abuse others to get their kicks, find such actions abusive and have in the past commented to me that something has to be done about the abusers.

But then of course I’m sure the abusers would howl the loudest about it because this proposal if implemented would effectively act to take away their “fun” now would it not?

Is this actually serious? Someone actually considers lying a ground target or standing next a character harassment? Arenanet cannot actually believe this is legitimate. You claim this is the majority of the playerbase’s sentiment, and yet I’ve never heard of this of opinion ingame or on the forums prior to this. Your anecdotal points don’t help. It’s just as easy to claim that a majority of the community disagrees with you.

People think their character is them, when someone stands close to your character they are in turn standing on you. I have encountered this before.

The best way to avoid griefers or “trolls” is not to fight back, block or anything. if someone stands on your character, STAY THERE, go afk, do whatever. Ignore them by not acknowledging their existence! They only troll because they want a reaction from you. Don’t give it to them!

There are people who think the Earth is only a few millenia old. Holding an opinion does not mean the opinion is worth merit. To me, that seems to be the case here. You are not your character. You are not being stood on. You are not being harmed.

lets rename this game to zerker wars 1

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Sorin.4310

Sorin.4310

Basically the games needs 1 of 3 things.

1. Remove Zerker completely.
2. Boost all defense to counter Zerker.
3. Merge Zerker into ALL armour so everyone is Zerker but has to choose between other stats. Like Condition, or Vitality, or Defense, or any other stats that are in the game.

These are horrible changes.

1. Then best gear would just move to the next highest DPS gear and then that’d be the meta and we’d be in exactly the same position.
2. Boosting what defense? Enemies? So everyone equally takes longer to do content? This is going to give even more reason to use zerker because other stuff would take forever to kill things. Unless conditions then become better, and then meta would be sinister (see 1 for why this is no better).
3. The point of zerker is to at least have some risk associated (albeit it’s lacking). To remove that little risk would be terrible. Zerker gear at least usually requires dodges/active playing with blocks and blinds. Remove that and what challenge is left in the content will be completely gone.

Ok well to start off no one is just running around hit 30k autoattacks. You might be able to create a unique situation where you could get close. Lightning hammer full DPS group might be able to get somewhat close – I’m unsure. But for pretty much every case, those people are wrong.

The other thing is people don’t understand the damage display. There are still people who think each number is how much you just hit for, so let’s say the first 3 swings of 100b says:

4k, 8k, 12k.

People think they are hitting for a total of 24k (4 + 8 + 12), when really they just hit for 12k (4 + 4 + 4). So it’s easy to think you hit for 90k when really you just hit for 30-40k on a 100b.

Hero points *need* a refund option.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Sorin.4310

There’s two different issues here. One is the temporary transitive issue of people who will be back to normal in not too long a time, but the other is whether or not there should be a refund of points all the time for everyone.

I think the leveling is pretty fast in this game compared to most and the PvE is pretty easy. It’s probably not necessary. Not that I’d object if Anet put it in.

I just think they have other things to work on that are far more important than this.

What they probably should have done is implement an option when logging in to your character for the first time post-patch:

“Would you like the game to attempt to automatically choose skills and traits based on what you were previously using? Yes/No”

If no, it would just wipe your board clean and give you all the hero points you would have had. If yes, then it would have done what they did. There would still be upset people because they would have clicked “yes” and didn’t like what they got, or because they clicked “no” because they can’t figure out a build, but it would have given us a good choice to pick if we wanted.

There’s a dev post about a week ago specifically explaining why they didn’t do this. It was quite a lot of extra work to implement an option, as opposed to everyone having it done for them/get to choose, for a minor issue that would eventually resolve itself. This complaint thread seems, by far, the outlier. I haven’t really seen anyone else ingame or on the forums complaining. So tbh I’m glad anet didn’t spend all that extra time to appease a very, very small minority on this “issue”.

These “tryhards” just want to spam 11111111 and get their “speedrun” except they always make it longer by not bothering to dodge.

Sure, Jan.

Why are we still suggesting that speedruns are just 1111111? Literally no rotation is that. None. At all. And anyone doing that, is trash, regardless of what gear they are in.

Unexpected Deaths

…So my assumption is that server decides that you are in some other part of the map…

I agree with this. After a death in Lion’s Arch while standing on a roof, I logged out and back in and found myself on the other side of the city.

Possibly related, I’ve had several cases where I cannot interact with either a downed person or a gathering node, and have to move around before it works.

You don’t have to logout to cause it. I had it happen from using a portal.

Need more Armor Skins! No More Outfits!

A bit ago they stated that outfits would primarily be gemstore and armor in-game rewards. Since there’s not much in the way of content to be expected before HoT, there’s probably not going to be any new armor skins prior to HoT release.

New Teq strategy

I completed it with about 6 minutes left last night. It looked like about roughtly half was meleeing and the other half were ranging. It certainly doesn’t require everyone in that spot. And if we’re still sticking with the assumption that the crit spot not being at every spot is a bug, then all those people under the belly is only temporary.

How about we nerf...?

Staff ele. It’s one of the easiest builds in the game, and yet it offers the highest DPS. It’s not interesting. Or hell not nerf it and bring other things up to its level. I’m just tired of seeing it sit alone while being extremely boring and simple.

How do you even get 30 bleeds in AC? Doesn’t your keyboard have a V button?

Gravelings are evil little kittenters. Especially when you get knocked down with everything on CD.

And OP, minority OR majority, you dont speak for them. Claiming to do so is seriously egotistical and false.

It is egotistical and false if it was just one’s own opinion. I say I speak for the silent majority of the games because of what I saw going on in world chat this past few weeks. I normally lurk the forums and rarely ever post. However something has to be said and I decided to step up and be the one who does it. If I could do a poll that would be great though. I believe it would go towards proving my point.

You could see 10000 people speak in map chat over the past week and you wouldn’t know if that’s the majority or not. You just sound bad at this game. 30 stacks of bleed in AC? Please. Learn to dodge and actually play the game. Sorry you can’t play bad and still complete content. (Also I don’t even understand the dungeon content complaint? Nothing has changed there. Some professions are even better after this patch looks at the 11 second ele lupi kill.)
