While i agree unavoidable agony is a terrible gear gate for high level fractals. You are somewhat out of date with the game. Farming cof hasnt been a thing and hasnt been possible for several months now. Fractals are not afk facerolled in zerker. While the agony system forces us to gear for fractals and the agony damage is no longer a threat, we still have to dodge attacks and use skill and CC to survive the regular attacks in dps gear.

Well, I rly don’t kno how you can struggle on their normal attacks, the groups i’m used to just need to get their 100b’s through and have to dodge once or twice, but i wouldn’t call tht effort. Maybe you should watch some guides to improve your tactics.

I rly appreciate some higher difficulty scaling for the non casuals at least.

For the record, and I think you ought to know, Spoj is one of the best pve players in this game.

Well, you’re wrong. Check out Spoj on YouTube and such. He is an excellent player who has an immense amount of skill.

Bart just seems to have an enormous ego because he got to fractal 80. While that is impressive it doesnt mean he should undervalue the difficulty in using full dps gear, full melee in fractals. The game could and should be a lot harder in high fractals but its still not something someone should smirk at considering how few people can survive consistantly in such situations. Making fractals a lot harder would satisfy me and im sure Bart aswell. But the community has a very large player base with players from all different skill levels. Most of which have extreme difficulty at learning very simply tells.

Anyway Bart, that was my point. Its not completely faceroll (you are exaggerating). You have to dodge or you will face plant. Any class in a dps spec other than warrior gets 1 shot in fractal 49 if they take an arch diviner auto attack to the face without aegis or some other decent damage mitigation (I could be slightly wrong about this but I know my necro does if I dont use DS). So for people who arent very experienced it is very unforgiving and not something you should look down on.

It is being abused but theres no perfect way to prevent it. I was just in a SE story mode where the host tried to kick everyone at the end so i vote kicked him and destroyed the instance. There was no way to salvage that situation as some idiot accepted the first 2 vote kicks and then got a vote kick above his name aswell.

Your system would definately help but theres the possibility of the people that the group wants to kick are griefers or genuine trolls, they could easily avoid being kicked with this system. A 3 vote kick system would be safer but again it has issues.

Just pugged SE story. The host was a necro and he had 1 other necro with him. When we got to the final boss, he started vote kicking people including the necro that was with him. He tried to vote kick 1 last guy when there was just 3 of us so I initiated a vote kick on him instead and the other guy accepted. We destroyed the instance. But i feel it was justified seeing as that troll just tried to grief 3 members out of the story mode (I think he was expecting me to go along with it). Big mistake on his part xD.

I dont understand why you guys are hating on this idea? Are you just jealous because you dont have legendaries? I really hate this community sometimes. Its a QoL improvement, stop being so negative. And it kind of makes sense that you should be able to swap sigils on 2000g weapons which already allow you to swap stats.

Its convenience on the most expensive weapons. It would be nice if this was added to infinite light and other such skins but then you have to draw a line on what deserves it and what doesnt. For legendaries its pretty clear.

Problem is that trait is very inaccessible for dps builds and therefore not worth it. And ive never liked that necro has high cooldowns for aoe burst. I would like some more sustained aoe. A slightly weaker lower cooldown well would be nice. But we are getting offtopic. xD

Well of suffering is on a 35 second cooldown and applies vulnerability. Im talking about a low cooldown pure dps well. It wouldnt have vuln or any additional effects so a lower cooldown wouldnt be overpowered. Either that or I would like another reduction to well cooldowns.

Well, it’s simple, atm the only challenge is farming enough cof to buy agony resistance to afk at the boss and push autoattack in a fullzerkspec, why do you spent time on designing unique boss encounters whn afterall u give pl enough agony resistance tht they don t even have to dodge. Pay to win shouldn t be the fractal mentality, i would rather have some rly hard encounters, which pl can challenge even if they use no ar at all, just bc they kno how to dodge and react to the enemy. I think you should be a bit more constructive in how you post. But I will do that for you:

The forced agony checks at boss fractals and lvl 30,40,50 instabilities are silly. They simply force players to gear their characters in such a way that agony is no longer a threat and dodging agony attacks becomes less important (this takes away some skillfull play in many encounters). Fractals should be challenging but having a timegated gear check (agony resist) really takes a lot of potential out of the difficulty side. Before, you could fight your way up to 80 with no agony resist. This was a difficult and fun task to do and required minimal mistakes as any agony would instantly kill you. Its a shame this personal challenge is no longer available thanks to the forced agony checks at certain instabilities and shards.

Id also like to see the toxic krait reflect bubble be introduced as a spectral skill.

In regards to stability. I feel like well of power should tick stability for caster and allies in the well for the full duration.

Spectral armour should grant stability.

With these simple changes our stability problems would be gone.

You want a proof? People use to farm CoF path 1 in 4-5min and everybody was using 4 Warrior and 1 Mesmer back then. They nerf the timewrap by half and the runs were stil around 4-5min.

Claimed all-time record for CoF path 1.

Why do people still insist on giving bullkitten numbers?

Wow calm down. It been 8 month the last time i speed run CoF path 1. Sorry if i use a approximation of the time and not the real one. 4-5min compare to 5:13 is not that big of a difference. Its ok 4-5min is not right, i should have said 5-6min. Sorry about that, but i didn’t gave a bullkitten number.

The people who farmed it took closer to 7minutes. Often more.

Yes because you lose so much damage by going into those traitlines. And dps is important in pve. Even in a minion build minions are only a small percentage of your overall damage.

No there is no way sigils or food could of done it because you cant hit jademaw with regular attacks. It requires the use of projectile finishers and dark fields when standing in a certain place.

Watched it a bit… you could have done a looot better… if you don’t mind me saying. I don’t know if you guys just wanted to have fun, but it kind of puts people off MM. Now that i look at it i think you could have done it in like 7-8 minutes… and since the world record is 5:20 that’s not bad…

You could have provided 25 stacks of vulnerability easy + dagger 1 spam since minions would siphon for you therefor max DPS uptime with the hardest hitting weapon. The vulnerability stacks would increase both your and your minion’s damage.

Dagger focus + minions also might want to add superior sigil of demon summoning, the demon hits as hard as flesh golem.

Once again i don’t mean to be rude or anything, just a small suggestion…

I consider it a feature. The problem is its so easy to bug maw if you get a bit overzealous with the projectile finishers. But anyone who has half a brain knows not to use it until the second phase of maw and to stop using lifesteal just before maw dies.

On a more serious note. Id like to discuss some details about how to improve rewards. I know it has already been discussed but I just want to make sure some of the suggestions werent overlooked. Currently the rewards arent worth the time which means people dont really have an incentive to run fractals (especially higher fractals).

The way I would fix this in the short term is to increase the difference between gold rewards among the different tiers. Currently they increase by 10silver? Thats pretty woeful doing a lvl 10 and getting 1g and then doing a lvl 49 and getting 1g30silver seems like a bit of a joke to me. Personally I would make it 1g per tier. So 1-10 is 1g, 11-20 is 2g, etc. Even 50 silver difference between tiers would be much more favourable.

Another reason many people run fractals is for the karma and relics for backpieces. I think the relic and karma rewards are actually pretty good as they are. But I would like to see the karma gain factor cap removed.

On to the rng rewards. One of the big reasons to run fractals is to get weapon skins or ascended weapon/armour boxes. At the moment the weapon drop rate seems to by much lower than it was before the fractured patch. So there is far less drive for players to run fractals if they want a particular skin. With the introduction of the selectable weapon box you could quickly encourage players to run fractals more often. The random skins could also be a slightly more common drop, but I think they should be possible to convert to relics or other fractal mats (mist essence).

Weapon and armour boxes I have an issue with because 99% of the time its a stat combo I have no use for, but atleast with the weapons we can sell for 1g. I personally would prefer to select the stat combo and have no choice in the type of weapon. Not sure how you would do this for armour though? (maybe just make armour boxes vendorable for 1-2g).

Finally ascended rings. Before the fractured patch uninfused rings only dropped at 10-25 and all rings after that would automatically infused. Its very frustrating when you get an uninfused ring at 49/50. With the current agony requirements it makes no sense to have any type of ring in the loot tables for 30+ fractals. Players running these fractals should have enough AR and most likely have enough pristine relics to buy rings for alts anyway. Rings are a completely worthless drop which take up a spot in the loot tables. We cant salvage them, we cant trade them, we can only vendor them for a pathetic 5 silver. Making them salvageable for mist essences, ectos and relics would be a huge improvement.

I dont think so. Theres more coordination in stripping defiant stacks ready for an interrupt than just waiting for them to go down and hoping the boss doesnt do the attack you want to interrupt before you can guarantee cc. Your idea is like timegating CC. We have enough timegating I think.

I personally think defiant is fine the way it is. I would however change unshakeable. Mainly so blinds are 10% chance to be applied, so if you see the blind icon on the boss you know for certain it will work.

I’m not sure if this was suggested yet or not, but what if we had the option to play fractals in a sort “infinite dungeon” mode? Instead of the traditional 3 fractals 1 boss, there was the option to play as many fractals as your team could handle, each with an increasing reward.

Multiple Ways to Pull off “Infinite Dungeon” Mode!
Option 1 Choose your starting fractal level, for example Level 10, then after each fractal you beat, it goes up 1 fractal level difficulty. This could make it especially interesting if you add random instabilities. This way, you could potentially go up forever and the further you go, the harder the challenge, but the more the reward!

Option 2 Instead of it going up in difficulty after each fractal, they could go up after every 4 (after each boss fractal). This could even be integrated into the current way fractals work. After you beat the boss you are given the option of going back to the observatory or continuing on.

Option 3 BOSS MODE! All fractals are boss fractals! They get harder the more you fight and will have different instabilties! The higher you go the worse it gets! New instabilities like… Mai suddenly showing up during the Maw fight! Maw tentacles showing up during the Mai fight! And more!

Just an idea, but it would be a fun way to change it up a little bit and potentially add a way to integrate the leaderboards; track how far your team made it.

Option 2 is already implemented. But noone has the time for that. When you finish a run the difficulty level goes up 1 and you are ported to the observatory. You can simply start a second run if you wish.

I believe that alternate paths are probably necessary in content that poses a challenge to the way we build our characters. Otherwise group requirements could become really strict. Which doesn’t work out in fractals at all, since we are posed challenges through a random selection. (It would lead to kicking people in order to get a specific profession)

We need to have alternatives to make it through, like:

  • Access to environmental weapons that can offer us the skills we need.
  • Support NPC’s we can choose that can fill the gap in our team.
  • The option to pick our path. (Ignoring what we can’t do, perhaps picking a more lenghty but less tactical fight instead.)

There are already examples of the first in game. For example at the end of path 1 of arah the final boss shoots 1hit KO projectiles which are slow and homing. Reflects or projectile absorption are required, or chain blocks. What if you were running 5 necros? No problem theres environmental reflecting crystals in the room before so it can still be done with any party composition. I like these things (even though this particular example is very simple and boring its the concept of having something to make up for the lack of a requirement in certain party compositions).

The second idea I would have to say no to. There are too many npc related incidents and bugs in current dungeons and fractals (some completely preventing you from finishing the dungeon/fractal others just cause wipes or near wipes due to boss aggro). I would rather anet avoided using NPC dependency in all future content to avoid these issues.

Last night I was 3manning ac p3. Before the final boss our 3rd dc’d and didnt return. We failed on the initial attempt and so grast died. Whenever we tried to res him and re-engage the fight grast and tzark would immediately attack the boss regardless of what we were doing (they had half hp from just being ressed).

This ended up in repeated attempts of us failing due to grast dieing before we could kill the boss. And as Im sure you are aware colossus rumblus has an attack where boulders fall from the roof which requires grast to be alive to create a protective bubble for you. If hes dead its almost certain to cause a wipe if you dont have enough dps. We ended up ignoring the dead grast to avoid further npc trolling. So we were forced to get an extra man and burst the boss against the pillar with fgs to completely ignore the npc dependant mechanic. We had to make sure we killed it before the boulders fell (it was close and we were lying dead on the floor when the end reward popped up).

TL;DR – NPC dependency can cause incredible frustration. So please avoid it in future.

The reason why I hate pure puzzle encounters is that we could have combat with puzzle encounters. For example we could have a boss in wisp area and you would have to use wisps to beat him.

But back to your reply. So far every puzzle is so shallow/easy that there is barely any need to think about builds. Yes, I use different skill set when running wisps than normally but loading condition removal, mobility and stun breaks isn’t very challenging. With combat elements you would have to make a decision between offensive and defensive skills.

If you get thrilled with using Mantra of Resolve instead of Null Field then I guess we just have to accept that we appreciate different things.


About alternative paths, while it’s a nice idea I would rather first see current encounters spiced up with more mechanics. I prefer quality over quantity.

I feel a little strange for doing this, but I thank you for being persistent with the main points you’ve been asserting :P

I agree. It worrys me when people are so insistant on forcing pure puzzles in fractals. They arent successful. The majority of regular fractal runners find them tedious and boring. Combat with puzzle encounters are the way forward and adds a whole new level of difficulty and replayability to those “puzzles”.

For goodness sake, stop with these puzzle suggestions, if you want to scare off what’s left of your dedicated fractal community, just throw in a bunch of obnoxious puzzles like all of the terrible suggestions in this thread and watch how nobody can be kitten d to do FOTM anymore because it will end up as Aetherpath 2.0 where it’s not worth the tedium.

Also, the entire fractal community is doing a puzzle fractal as it’s first fractal constantly so I really don’t see the problem.
Yes, Swamp is a puzzle fractal, hate to break it to you.

Thats not the reason they do it though. Noone enjoys do the wisp puzzle. None of the pure invironmental puzzles are fun after doing them once. Puzzles arent replayable or repeatable. And even if you somehow make them randomly generated they will still eventually become boring because theres only so many iterations that can be generated. Fractals is a place where people go for difficult combat in pve. If you want environmental puzzles you should be doing jumping puzzles and guild puzzles not fractals.

My old fishnets look was T3 shoulders, gladiator top, barbaric legs, cm boots and gloves. It was a bit of a scruffy look but it was pretty good. I just wish I could get cm armour without the rust and dirty look.

A little imbalance in PvE won’t have a ton of people crying OMG OP. Being able to proc 4 different on swap sigils will make my OP PvP and WvW warrior builds even more OP.

I was using pve as an example. Please list the on swap sigil combo’s that you would consider op. Because im still not seeing the issue. Its an advantage yes, not op though.

And i imagine they will tone down warriors in the patch at the same time. So hopefully warriors wont be so completely op after that.

Thieves will also have some pretty crazy builds with the 100% on crit sigils which won’t share and ICD anymore either.

So will every other class. It seems like you guys are just speculating and using it as an excuse to ask for nerfs to other classes. I suggest you wait until we have more info or until the patch hits. Theres no way of knowing how things will turn out until we know more.

So basically it’s like a Mesmer sword charge, only it doesn’t bug out.
What I’m saying is, your position is incredibly biased. Necromancers have plenty mobility-tools, and other classes aren’t all sunshine and roses as you seem to think they are.

I’m quite envious of the way your claw works. My charge gets stuck on any upwards terrain, and a dev confirmed that it cannot be fixed any time soon due to being a global issue.

But… what’s the point? Classes work different. You have a much better charge, I have blink. So I need to commit a utility-slot, but then also break stun. You Chill and Bleed on the other hand. All different.

O.O are we playing the same game? You do release necro actually moves further by running with swiftness than by using dark path or flesh wurm. The only mobility skills necro has is if you abuse the executioner axe toy charge. Swiftness and runspeed dont count as proper mobility as all classes have one or the other or both. Although I admit mesmers do have an issue trying to get perma swiftness.

Btw i dont even fully agree with giving necro mobility. I do think it needs one instant teleport which doesnt require the projectile to hit first though (similar to guard sword blink). I dont mind it being a slow class as long as it has the damage and threat to make up for it. But as it stands necro is the slowest class, has the least active defense and no real pressure or way to keep people from escaping and in pve it has average dps and below average defense. Major reworks need to be done to fix the class, especially for pve.

4. Yep, thats why i tried the max melee range, but while i didn’t get hit i couldn’t see any damage floater. You know, camera issues and stuff. Hmm, maybe i should watch the combat log. Oh well, next time.
And again, the boss is big enough that you can see his swinging, even if its covered in blue / orange flames and Sigil of Fire proc tries to blind you. There is still an option to reduce graphic setting that its less frustrating and it can give some performance boost too which is needed to the well timed dodges.

This is one of the major reasons im annoyed about these fights. Anet release more zerg content. They upset the casuals by making conditions even more useless. Then they prevent any sort of skilled play on the knights by making the auto attack with no cooldown 400+ range and full 360 degree. Its completely anti melee. Which means its a dps check that really matters if people are leeching or not because you are forced to semi range or 100% range which is less dps than meleeing. It boggles the mind why they would design fights like this.

I managed to work out a way to melee on warrior, but it involves a lot of running away and waiting for the big windup attacks which means you dont have a lot of time to dps before you have to retreat again. If i tried it on an ele, thief, guardian I would faceplant instantly with one mistake. And its not really about reading tells its about how much time you are willing to risk in melee before that auto attack crushes you and/or dazes you in the danger zone. Its just stupid.

Getting energy sigil proc every 10 seconds for 1/4 slots totally isn’t abusive at all… As if wars already aren’t hard enough to kill

Its already like that. Are you guys intentionally being ignorant? Cause im struggling to see what the problem is. The only advantage will be that warrior can take 4 different on swap sigils and get them to all proc every 10 seconds. But then how many decent on swap sigils are there? Energy and battle are the only ones i would use in pve. Its hardly a major imbalance.
