not just farming glory but chests, seriously if you run premades right now and don’t find tournaments boring, you are bad or only interested in easy wins. I pug more than I premade but when I do premade it’s quite boring, with the exception of those few games you get another premade which is maybe 1 out of 10. Add that in to 5min waits before each match and it just gets old fast. Pugging is almost more fun because you have more close matches.
tldr: doing tournaments as a premade is currently boring and easy and match making needs to be added. If you run a premade and feel this should not be added you are bad or only interested in pug stomping.
If ANet didn’t want pugs doing tournaments they wouldnt have allowed it but they do. I agree there needs to be some type of system in place. As it is now if you run a premade even one made by spamming map chat and putting a random group of people together, as long as you are all able to get on voice chat you face roll almost every match since there are so many pugs in tpvp.
The only people who are against something like this being added are bad premades who actually want to face pugs to farm glory.
if only you faced 5 moa Mesmer team to kill all the pets
That makes sense, but I already have 20 points in Dom.
I run 20, 20, 0, 25, 5.
I love it
You can try it as a variation on Tau’s build. I run with all berserker gear, and man do my izerkers CRUSH people
Are you talking about WvW? I wouldn’t really use that as a good comparison to tPvP
clones dont hold off hand weapons
@ Sprawl – Well Sprawl if you knew anything really you’d know armaggedon/seer gear is gained through tournament reward chests and with tournament tokens.
You’re trying too hard at this really.
You can get tournament tokens from salvaging chest gear which any bad player can get from pugging tournaments, again, armor has no bearing on skill. Didn’t think I needed to clarify that.
Necros actually have plenty of stunbreaks, HB rarely works on me, when using a deathshroud build I have 3 stunbreaks on me which are spectral armor, spectral walk and plague signet. I wasn’t using signet but dam rangers always be stacking me with bleeds so I figure I’d send them back to them.
+ The DS line has a spectral armor at 50% health, I believe this stunbreaks.
And you can death shroud while stunned and fear your enemy which is a nice save unless they bring stability, then you want to hope you have enough life force to tank the hit until you are unstunned.
Using spectral walk, spectral armor and plague signet is pretty bad utility bar unless you are spec’d for 1v1 only.
Not everyone specs for conditions/wells. I use a power/death shrould build. I’ve done up to 5k damage to light armor classes from a single life blast and usually finish in the top 2 in games with my team winning. Don’t judge the way I use my skills without knowing why I use them and how they aid my build and my team.
finishing “top” means absolutely nothing except you weren’t bunkering and tagged people before they died.
I’m assuming you are just a pug spvper, in which case stick with the 1v1, zero team support, utility bar.
Nah, full seer/armaggedon sets here. I do play the condition/well build. Corrupt boon/signet/epidemic utilities but it’s easily to get bored of. I guess some people just don’t understand that you can play different builds and also be a powerhouse as a necro when you want which is also pretty fun.
what does your gear have anything to do with anything LOL, same with scoring high points, they mean nothing in regards to skill.
I don’t use wells with condition build, i use wells with power/crit build because they hit HARD. I wouldn’t use them in a condition build at all.
Or..the opposing team go ‘Lets hit the GS warrior first, he’ll go down super easy’.
Of all the targets to pick why wouldn’t you go after the gw warrior.
Mesmer- I’m not spending 5 minutes chasing someone
Engineer- amazing kiting running through mines not worth it first.
Necro – Need to go through 2 health bars and a slew of conditions
Guardian – enough said.
Thief – again…it’s not happening with stealth and shadowstep etc..
Elementalist – Correctly specced amazing escape abilities/mist form, not worth it first
Ranger – maybe…but they’re not really a threat. So warrior becomes first target. He can’t escape, he has no ranged damage, he has low toughness if he’s HB spec, if he hasn’t hit got stability as his 3rd slot he’s falling over to everything. If he has so what, it means he has no stun breaker.
This is where the GS warrior is so weak. This is why no one runs warriors in decent tpvp teams.
that’s where your team and strategy comes into play. Why are they downing your warrior before you down them? why is your warrior leading the way into the fight?
Rangers are squishy, necro has no life force at the start of a match, etc
I could go into more but my post was in regards to BAD warriors complaining about HB rarely landing. Because they open every fight the same way.

Didn’t you used to run staff vs GS? why the change? I used that old guide to create my current build, will check this one out as well.
People who play thief ONLY: why is this stickied? Thief is fine!
i hate it, i’m always spamming map chat “ready up please” but there’s always that one person who still doesn’t know how to click ready. It should be 60 seconds max.
That’s why you sync with good teams.
The post was asking about steam rolling every day tournaments.

I love the people that say you’re bad if you get hit by HB. Wrong. You’re a bad warrior (or your team is bad) if you can’t hit people with HB. Bad warriors don’t track stun breaks and OPEN fights with stun/hb/frenzy. Those bad warriors are the ones saying HB isn’t good it’s easily avoidable. Good warriors let a fight develop (and i’m not talking about 1v1) and time HB with combined CC of them AND their team mates to almost guarantee it lands.
TLDR:
Bad Warrior – “omg i always open with stun/HB and i rarely ever land, warriros are just debufed guardians”
Good Warrior “ok HB/Frenzy are off CD”
Thief team mate #1: “target already blew stun break”
Guardian team mate: “knocking target down, go”
pops frenzy/hb

you dont need any special setup to steam roll every day tournaments. Any group of random 5 guildies on vent will steam roll probably 95% of tournament matches. That is part of the reason most premade players are getting bored and annoyed with the lack of ANet response.
Honestly running an “optimal” premade gets boring very fast unless you happen to hit a string of other guild premades but that is rare, most teams are pugs.
they need to add a feature you can’t join tournaments for 30 mins if you sign up for one and ditch out.
This is not an OP to UP list, but just what classes bring the most to the table for pvp.
1. Thief (mobility, burst, stealth stomps etc.)
2. Guardian (rezzing, bunkering, knockdown spam etc.)
3. Mesmer (ability to cause chaos, treb porting)
4. Engineer (solid bunkering and support)
5. Ele (solid bunkering and support)
5. Ranger (mediocore dps, ok survivability/mobility)
6. Warrior (burst)
7. Necro (mediocore condition damage/support)
@Ansatsu, show me a necro or ranger critting you for 10k
lich form is an elite with long CD and no gap creation or closure. how is that comparable to hs spam?
just give every class a 5k+ damage spammable attack that is a gap closer if you are melee or gap creator if you are ranged and all will be equal.
for example make necro fear in death shroud do 5k damage with a 5 sec cd
(edited by Sprawl.3891)
Retaliation only kills glass cannon specs. A decent condition ranger will eat up a good ret guardian and laugh at him.
whats funny is a good condition spec also stomps all over thieves too (we have very little in ways to remove condition damage)
can you post your pie chart of tournament games played by class? would love to see it.
2 weeks to write a blog post is funny, watch it end up being just short bullet points too about stuff we already know.
yea this is a horribly dumb mechanic
So a lot of the whiners claim they play the class they think needs a nerf or that they play all classes equally. Well thankfully ANet offers a way to prove that to everyone. So here’s a thread to post your piechart and show everyone your breakdown of pvp matches by profession. I’ll start
Main was necro to start off (green), currently mainly playing ranger (lighter green) and dabbled with mesmer, warrior and thief.
them attacking + you attacking + confusion/retaliation is my guess
i love how people say just dodge/los when youre moa’d like it’s hard for them to track you down and kill you lol.
They should have everyone’s personal pie chart of pvp matches played by class show up when you post.
Or make them not effectively last so long? Seriously, any mmo player ever will tell you one of the most annoying things is inability to control your character (i.e long CC and no way to react) knockdowns are by far the most annoying CC in the game and some combos can more or less spam it to the point you can barely do anything. It’s probably my only gripe with tPvP.
Which sigil are most of you using? Earth? +10 condition dmg on kill? 5% precision? 5% damage?
I’ve been mainly running with earth but not sure if theres a better option.
i dunno i thoroughly enjoy playing ranger on tournies and have had no probs helping the team, could another class fill the roll better? probably but who cares when 90% of games are wins? When they add all of the tourny pvp extras like rankings, paid tournaments etc then ill worry about complaining about balance.
wellkitteni guess he will have to roll another class up to 80 to pvp, oh wait.
I find guardian boring and ranger fun. Main was a necro but have mainly been tPvPing on ranger last few days.
dunno why i cant quote posts sometimes but CptCosmic where you show how to stack 15 bleeds, i didnt say it was impossible, i said post a video of yourself actually doing it reliably in 1v1 situations. You list a LONG chain of 7+ skills required to reach 15 stack and assume none of those will be dodged/los’d? Anyone can theorycraft how to stack 15 bleeds, show me a video of you doing it and owning people 1v1.
Konrad basically pointed out how that compares to other classes bleed stacking, i highly suggest you and all the other necros he keep posting nonsense (tony, etc.) go actually play other classes instead of just theorycrafting. Go play a condition spec ranger and mesmer and then come back so you can make accurate arguments.
How about this, you make a video using that rotation and stacking bleeds, ill make a video auto attacking with sharpening stone, then we will post and see who stacks more bleeds faster and more reliably.

it’s hard arguing with people who only play ONE class
But there’s no way to know if you and AC were the highest rated teams in that tourney. You are just assuming that all other teams were pugs and you met AC in the second round. Maybe after AC beat you, they played Team Paradigm in the third round. (I know TP is EU and its not going to happen, but it was just an example.)
Of course there is no way to know that was just an example and reason for seeding.
You didn’t get the point either. Even there’s a matchmaking existing if the player pool is gonna be the same then you changed nothing. This is a new game and most of the players are still getting used to it or just trying stuffs or maybe they take time to mature. There are fast learners and slow learners. Add to the pool the talented ones which most likely is the guild that you faced. Development of the meta takes time and it warrants that all efficient possible builds are fielded and are tried and tested. Now, only ther flavors are being played and there are still lots of build combinations that are not yet made.
right but you cant try and test builds if you are facing pugs 90% of your matches.
If you’re winning against all other teams and suddenly gets stomped by a guild team, that means you faced noob teams, which is mostlikely in a game that is lkess than one month old. It takes half a year to develop a metagame. And this meta may be a polymorphic metagame if balancers don’t exercise firmness and easily give in to whines etc. You winning against noob teams and getting stomped by a guild team is not related to metagame really but an indication of the discrepancy of skill level.
grats on missing the entire point. The whole point is without match making we face noob teams 90% of the time. If we faced guild teams in the 2nd and 3rd round of every tournament we would be able to fine tune a specific game plan with specific class roles.
TLDR: Why bother trying to develop specific roles/game plans when you can only reliably test in 1 out of every 50 games.

btw I can stack ~15 bleeds (+ poison, a blind, chill & weakness) in a single scepter dagger rotation that I use to stack conditions on my target with the necro. it jumps to 18 bleeds when I use a staff mark beforehand. it might be more or less depending on crit and proc luck. my spvp setups has 50% crit chance, slightly over 20k hp, 1,8k thoughness, 20% condition duration in runes (53% from traits) and 1306 condition damage. never lost a 1vs1 duel till yet with this.
I know what necro is capable of, it was my main and 80% of my tpvp time has been played on necro. And I don’t know why you are listing you stats, every condition spec for any class has basically the same stats. I run 3 afflicted 3 krait runes. Also I have read condition duration from traits does not stack .
Do you have any videos showing you stacking 15-18 bleeds and never losing a 1v1 ever?
(edited by Sprawl.3891)
I meant if there were rankings they could seed each tournament, so if the two highest rated premades do not meet until the finals. If us and AC were the only 2 premades out of those 8 teams there should be a system to seed us accordingly.
I see ANet mentioning this and thus the fanbois agree, but as I, and many others have stated before. How do you let a high-end meta develop when premades are facing pugs in tournaments for 90+% of the matches?
For example last night I was messing around with ranger, 2nd day playing one in pvp. Ran into a team queuing as 4, we won that tourney. Joined up with them and queued for I think 5 or 6 more tourneys. We won every tourney except one where we faced a full guild premade (AC) who beat us 500-300 or something in the 2nd round. First off we shouldn’t have faced them until the finals, second, how do you develop a game plan to counter them when chances are we won’t see them or any other high end team again the rest of the night?
I could run any random 5 classes and be on voice chat and win 90% of tournaments so how do you develop meta? Oh this setup allows us to win 500-50 vs 500-100, lets tweak it.
They seriously need to add some form of match making FIRST before anything else.
you stack your conditions, fine. but then I remove them. all your abilities that can apply conditions are now on cooldown. your damage went down the toilet. if you have issues to prevent rangers from flanking then it is your l2p issue you have no excuse for this in a game where you can abuse terrain to block attacks.
also you post shows that you have no clue about the necromancer. no one uses plague signet cause it does not work properly. necros use dagger offhand ability to transfer conditions.
all my abilities that apply condition are on cooldown? if you pop plague signet ill have 10 bleeds on you in <5 sec from auto #1 spam/bleed on crit and sharpening stone alone. Again you REEEEALLY undervalue how fast #1 shortbow attack is.
and you aren’t transferring all conditions with dagger. you will have burning, bleeding, chill vuln and poison on you from a condition/trap ranger and trap/weapon CDs are shorter than deathly swarm CD.
And it’s impossible to avoid flank in a team fight lol, unless everyone on your team faces the same direction the entire fight LOL, would love to see that. “face the ranger! ignore the warrior and thief behind you!”
Also if we do know ill be facing a conditionmancer ill just run signet that removes condition every 10sec and all on use, but I have yet to see a need to use that in tournaments as we generally just focus down necro off the bat when they have no LF, and top teams dont use necros period.
(edited by Sprawl.3891)
Lol.
Cpt: “Necromancer does conditions better than ranger.”
People: “Nope.”
Cpt: “Doesn’t matter, conditions are useless. Also, cooldowns. Ranger is the only class that has them.”you have serious l2read issues and I never said conditions are useless. I guess you dont play pvp thus your opinion is null and void. saying ranger is better but neglecting a big part of the game shows how little you actually know about the game.
ranger has no ability in PVP to reliable apply conditions nonstop. when I remove them you do no damage with your pro condition build for atleast the next 10 seconds. have fun with your 200dps after your conditions got removed. or I dodge 2 abilites and there goes your damage down the toilet again. ranger condition build work in PVE only where someone else or the pet can hold aggro from stupid npcs where you then hit from behind with your shortbow.
on the necro on the other had, you remove the conditions, and he stacks the bleeds up again with no issue.
10 seconds? It takes <5 seconds to stack 10+ bleeds with traps + pet + weapons. Are you talking 1v1? Because in a 2v2, 3v3 or 4v4 fight you aren’t going to keep a ranger from flanking you, and flanking bleeds are only icing on the cake. Pet + axe/axe + trap + bleed on crit is enough to get 7-10 stacks in a matter of seconds. Have you played a ranger? You really seem to undervalue bleed on crit, shortbow #1 attack is about 3x as fast as scepter #1, then think about that + 50% crit. And what 2 abilities are you dodging the kills a rangers damage lol? And if I am facing a necro with plague signet, which most tourney necros aren’t using, i’ll let him blow that, and laugh as it will probably bug out, then pop sharpening stone (next 5 attacks bleed) and be right back where i started. Conditionmancers and power/crit necros are some of the easiest kills for rangers especially in team fights.

Yea the 1v1 part is the main point of the build. Do you think Im going to tell you all of the tricks of the trade…no. So when I team fight there’s a bunch of different things
goin on that I don’t explain in this guide, and what circumstance to other said burst class brings to the fight. They are all single target burst so if you would gladly be more descriptive next time you come on here assuming things that would be helpful to your side. Thieves offer no utility to team fights besides an aoe stealth and single target dmg. Warriors bring only burst/(maybe war banner)/ and a stability stomp. Dmg eked bring single target burst and support eles bring heals. Meanders bring chaos storm and single target burst/Moa bird/time warp. Guardans bring knock backs/heals/utility at the cost of burst. Engineers either bring tankyness/single-target burst/ape knock back. Rangers bring single target burst/condition dmg. And for necros they bring conditions/aoe burst/ single target burst/ fear/boon removal. So what exactly am I missing here.
Bunkers are bunkers and a tank spec necro can bunker. So please be more descriptive
Thief utility is their speed and burst. They can steal mobs better than any other class and solo cap better than any other class. You’re only role in that build is to sit off by yourself and solo defend a point and you dont even do that well as you can’t even keep someone off the point. A thief has the speed to help at a mid point and return to defend an outer point in time, necro doesn’t. Warriors bring huge aoe burst, cc and stability, what do you bring? single target average at best dps that requires the target to stand in ground circles that aren’t ground targeted, while being susceptible to cc, no stability and limited ability to lock down target.
slow attacks, low mobility, tanky with death shroud, average condition damage, average aoe capability, below average burst, wonky ai on pets
posting with the scythe animation is like facebook duck face. plz stop ;/
stop saying wait for the meta to develop. There is no meta to develop when you play vs pugs in 99% of tpvp matches. So seriously stop using that as some kind of excuse. Was running some rag tag “pickup” premade today and won every tournament except one vs an elite premade running, you guessed it: Ele/Engi/Thief/Mes/Guard
(edited by Sprawl.3891)
roll a ranger, go to mists, stack crit/crit on bleed, equip short bow, get behind/side target, spam 1.
I never realized how horrible necro condition builds were until i played ranger. Unless you are pairing with epidemic condition builds are so far below other classes it’s not even funny… and that’s considered one of the “better” necro pvp specs.
