i pretty much cap camps so it should work ok?
if that is what you do yea, should work ok. I just often find myself in ranged battles and honestly wonder how melee spec’d people have fun in WvW
you are bored with condition but think you wont get bored with dagger main hand when most WvW fights are ranged tower attack/defense? wut?
What fun is competition without live trash talk?
tournaments should be removed and only for big events a la WoW seasonal tournaments where qualifying teams get put in round robin pools and then ranked off that for the bracketing of the actual tourney.
Also hot join SUCKS. If Anet wants to build this game they need to make single map 5v5 matches for casuals where quitters get 30+ min deserter debuff. This is not a kittening FPS where one pro player can make-up for a 5v3 team imbalance with a couple headshots. So stop trying to make it play like one.

i get tons of badges as a crit mancer. drop staff 2 swap to scepter/dagger drop your aoes, pop epidemic then pop your wells and staff 3/4.
i just started WvWing seriously a couple weeks ago when I hit 80 and have about 200 badges
just get level 79 exotics they are like -1 stat difference than 80s
if you are dying in WvW as a necro with glass cannon stats despite having spectral walk and plague form on your utility bar, you are bad, sorry. if i rarely die with 1k toughness and 20k hp why would i waste stats on more?
like i said only time i die is if we get completely overrun, in a 5v5 or 10v10 fight im last one alive if we are losing. Sure defensive spec’d mesmer or thief can survive longer by basically being able to run away, but they put zero pressure offensively in a wvw fight. Even glass cannon thieves and mesmers are a joke in WvW with the exception of picking off stragglers. In terms of making a dent in the overall scoreboards? worthless.
and necros aren’t thief or mesmer, if you do manage to survive a lot of times you will still get chased down by larger numbers, making that tough/vit stacking again, worthless. And again, if you are dying DURING the fight, youre bad. I mean seriously what are you dying to? You can clear conditions 3+ ways and any non-idiot can dodge out of burst. Only way you die is if you are positioned horribly or your entire team gets straight up rolled.

It’s all playstyle though, if you are a small group roamer that just attacks dolyaks and supply camps all night i guess stacking condition as your primary stack would be fine.
Hey, I want to play that game, too!
“It’s all playstyle though, if you are a small group roamer that just attacks dolyaks, supply camps, and looks for 1v1s all night i guess glass cannon works fine. If you want to be near the front lines and make a difference in some of the larger scale battles, go conditions.”
um no, front lines in large scale battle conditions aren’t going to kill people. big hitting AoE is. I run with one of the more dominating guilds on BG where we continually finish 1st in T2 rankings and I have continued to gear away from condition damage and more towards a balance of precision (55% crit unbuffed) condition damage and power. Like I said before wells, staff and DS are what drop people having some condition damage to make bleed procs and scepter/dagger keep pressure on are still great, but straight up stacking condition damage with low power and low crit is going to make you less valuable than someone with a more balanced crit/cond/power build.
Also as I said if you l2p you can run with low tough/vit (i have 1,050 toughness and around 20k hp) and still stay on the front lines and use spectral walk, DS, fears and plague form to basically never die unless your entire force dies.
tldr: best way to get bags and cause havoc in big battles: staff 2, swap to scepter/dagger drop your 2 aoes (use spectral walk here if needed to get close then port back), epidemic, swap back to staff, drop 2, 3, 4, wells, DS4 then DS1 anyone that may still be alive. My bleeds tick around 100-110 which is plenty and then dropping 55% crit wells, staff 4, ds 4 all hitting for big #s is where people go bye bye. when i see necro bleeds ticking on me for 120+ i laugh when it gets cleansed and they have nothing to fall back on.
(edited by Sprawl.3891)
i like precision for bleed on crit trait and sigil it allows you to keep bleeds up without spamming scepter 1 and makes wells hit hard. I dont have much toughness or vit and rarely die in WvW thanks to proper use of spectral walk, DS, fears and plague form. I find toughness/vit stacking a waste. I’m also comfortable with where my condition damage is and prefer to get some power/precision to keep wells, marks and DS attacks hitting hard. Too much condition damage is a bad investment with the speed people remove conditions thats why i prefer a balance and more like the “critmancer” build. Conditions and epidemic are nice for tagging people and some pressure but wells and DS 1+4 are what drop people in big fights.
It’s all playstyle though, if you are a small group roamer that just attacks dolyaks and supply camps all night i guess stacking condition as your primary stack would be fine.

I have put a lot of thought into this over the weeks, in trying to figure out for WvW what is really valuable and what is not. Necro’s on these boards talk about hybrid builds and how they are pretty good etc, but for WvW, I find there are just too many people that run around without condition dispell to ignore maximizing conditions/epidemic.
My personal opinion if you plan to be a condition based necro, is that the spite tree is worthless (outside of Spvp). Runes have very little effect for a condition based hero in general unless you take the duration runes. Even runes of the undead only give a marginal increase in condition damge.
Taking two Krait/Afflicted, and two Mad King/Lyssa will give you 40% increased bleed duration and 10% condition increased duration. Factor in the good food (40% duration), which isnt really that expensive to make if you buy order lower end pizza’s, and you are at 80% bleed 50% conditions.
In the curses tree now you can take Hemo (20%), and be at 100% bleed duration. I also take master of fear (50%) from the DS tree because I like the double length fears.
In any condition build, having that 100% bleed duration is so important, not because you want your long lasting bleeds to be longer, but because barbed precisions crit will now tick twice instead of once. So each crit that procs that short bleed now has double the effectiveness.
If you can get to 100% without spite, I say do it. The control that I get from the longer fears and reapers protection (which I just recently on these boards discovered is amazing), makes the skirmish fights in WvW tons of fun.
People die fast in WvW which is why hybrid builds are more popular. How often do you see your conditions running full length or getting high stacks before the person dies? not often. That’s why I prefer a crit/condtion/power build so you still have some burst and your only source of damage is not long running conditions.
tldr: condition duration is quite worthless in wvw
i wont speak for zint but i dont find that very much toughness/vit is needed for WvW. You are almost always running around with 50%+ life force for death shroud and if you want extra survivability you can swap lich form for your elite, which is what I do most of the time. Death shroud + lich form + either warhorn 5 or spectral walk can escape most encounters. I dont even have full exotics yet and using a rather glassy power/prec/cond/tough based gearing i still find myself one of the last alive or few to escape.
charr for sure. i would never roll an asura in anything except spvp, you cant see any detail on their armor or weapons
(edited by Moderator)
so glad i only do wvw now
yup tournaments are dumb for regular play. They should do rated single map matches with tournaments being only monthly for the top rated teams 8, 16, 32 whatever… but there arent even 8 good elite teams right now unless they do euro+us together.
They’d be even more useful if they fetched loot for you in all game modes, instead of running up to enemies and wheezing on them.
great idea
It’s random drops mostly. If you participate you get a shot at some loot.
you get a better chance for loot bag + BOH with [F] finisher. almost double the chance. Otherwise it follows standard lootbag drop.
only if you perform the actual finisher?

Vit/Tough/whatever you want weapons, gear, and accThis is how to hurt many many butts at the same time with Necro in WvW. You play this as a mobile siege platform with a knockdown pet that can be used to spread conditions with unblockable marks. Swap your speed Sigil and spectral walk for travel and swap your mist form for offensive pressure on large groups.
Single target focus of any kind in WvW does not compare to the epic fire power of this kitten kitten fully operational battle station/noob lawnmower.
Yer welcome.
not sure how this is any good at killing people, your wells and staff marks wont hit hard and your bleeds wont tick for much.. it’s more of a bunker build
In WvW, when they spawn, they help you identify where a loot bag may be.
just starting to WvW more and I don’t get this.
I solo kill someone, no loot bag. I hit someone in downed state once, loot bag.
AoE people in massive fight, one loot bag.
wtf?
some points for those that cant watch:
opinions from top players:
- bunker eles and ele down state needs nerf
- aoe dmg too high
- they play every day 8 hours a day lol
-two people pulled off private servers for ladders/match making
-pvp/wvw patch some time in jan/feb/march ..
-big balance patch dec 14th for pvp
(edited by Sprawl.3891)
nope. all my friends like PvP and gw2 PvP is quite awful. spvp is still a joke and wvwvw is a stale zero fest. my brother is the only person I knew who bought at release and he quit after a week of spvp
dear op in spvp you are auto leveled to 80…..
but guys look how fast they are adding stuff! paid tournament finally working and a new map with the exact same conquest play style. amazing speed anet!
/sarcasm
the whole hot join/auto balance system just sucks, period. This is not a FPS and does not play like one. Why people are making comparisons to TF2 and BF is just laughable. Matches take a short period of time and the glory grind is endless so crying about potentially losing out on a minuscule amount of glory because you may get DC’d is quite funny.
Nobody, other than Evan pointing out to consider that as a possible issue, is complaining about losing glory due to DC. So, not sure where you are deriving such comedic pleasure.
well that’s what made it so funny. a dev mentioning some thing with zero relevance like it would affect their own game design lol.

You should do like other MMOs and do single matches that start when teams are full, allow you to queue for the map you want (so I don’t have to leave a game every time I hit capricorn) and people who leave get a 30+ minute deserter debuff. And I played Rift for a while and never got deserter debuff for my comp crashing or getting DC’d they allowed a grace period that gave you plenty of time to re-join the match you were in.
Also there is no penalty for quitting tournament matches either, have had many matches where as soon as they realize it’s a premade or even partial premade people log off for 10 mins then come back leaving our team to a 5v4 steamrolling.
(edited by Sprawl.3891)
if you think necros are fine in spvp, go play a mesmer, then report back. I have full glass cannon phantasm mesmer and kill/survive/escape/control 100x easier than a necro that specializes in any of those.
In PvE they are ok
Due to a lot of things going on at once we did not realize that this could be seen as a cheap way to monetize our players and had we have thought of this (thanks to the original poster for bringing this to our attention) we would have/will look at the system and see if we can fix the issue with breaking any of the design pillars surrounding FotM.
I hope this sheds some light on the concern.
Chris
there are a lot of instances like this though. Adding “rentable” servers before ladder/ranking system in spvp? Come on bro, who you kidding.
yes lets add rentable servers while pugs are getting stomped by average premades, and average premades are getting stomped by elite premades, good idea!
(edited by Sprawl.3891)
no spvp questions answered, at least they are consistent with the crap state of spvp.
oh hey look it’s SAtaarcoeny the guy who talks kitten to pugs while playing as a premade in free tournies, saying he’s only “recruiting” well looks like you are getting rofl stomped in paids and now crying about it, gg. You shouldn’t talk as much as you do when your only claim to glory is winning free tournies vs pugs.
Here is a good read.
Did you see the date? October 8th.
Were coming up on 2 months since then and they only thing they have done is got paid tournaments working, but barely anyone plays them and they actually force premades back down to free tournaments to get tickets. big failure.
Agree with you, kind of did expect a lot more to be released for PvP these past 2 months.
But the way I see it: The longer time since the last content/update, the sooner we will get the next oneLet’s just pray it actually adds whats needed for the PvP to survive.
the next one is rentable servers, that will do zero for pvp. Maybe top teams will use them but the majority (casuals) will still be either PvEing or playing another game.

not sure why they went with hotjoin. they should have just done it like every other game. game starts when 5 are queued for each team, quitters get 30+ min deserter penalty.
wonder if devs will see this
so when are you going to fix all of the necro bugs? You didn’t even hit on any of the important ones last patch.
When it’s ready right ? Cause game was ready right ? It was weird to hear that some minor features would be released latter, but it’s hard to believe the content… we have right now is something worthy of calling ready, but without minor features.
So what am I doing here ? Game will release in June 2013 will it not ?
Immature insults won’t make them develop new game modes any quicker. And you asked a good question at the end there, right before the game release 2013 question.
neither will praising everything they do like some on here do
Another thing that bothers me about the new rez timers is the importance or winning the inital fight. The team that loses the fight is left with 1 defender on home point if he didn’t die already leading to a quick 3 cap while everyone is waiting to rez. It makes comebacks near impossible.
that’s what op meant by snowballing
match making should be #1 priority. Finish that so at least people have fun balanced matches then go from there. Private servers isn’t going to bring any casuals back to pvp.
Problem is, with the current tournament system it is not gonna work. You think people complain about the queues now? Wait until they implement a match making system that tries to find 8 equally ranked teams…
you just do it like WoW. It spends x amount of time finding someone within x rank of you then, expands accordingly.
I don’t think you grasp what I’m trying to say. First of, we can not be using rank as a factor in match making since it does not reflect skill in any kind of a way.
Also, the system would still need to find 8 teams for a single match, and every one of those 8 teams would need to be at about equal rankings. The queues are “long” now, with the system matching up the first 8 signed teams for a tournament, can’t you see how incredibly much longer the queue would be with a ranked system?
Only way I see we can get a working ladder/ranking/match making system is if they scrap the tournament game style as the “go to style” and does it as the other games do, simple 2 team games of 3 or 5 matches.
i meant rank as in a new ranking system they need to add. Not ridiculous QP that has zero to do with skill.

So for example using random numbers. It spends 5 minute to find teams within +/- 50 rank points. Then another minute to find someone teams within +/- 100 rank points then another minute to find teams within +/- 200 rank points and so on until you have 8 teams.
But obviously if pvp is dead nothing will help queue times.
(edited by Sprawl.3891)
Well.. to be honest this is an easy fix for the devs, and this is nothing to overreact about. We just need to give honest feedback from the pvp scene. They will change it if we ask
in 2-3 months if youre lucky
Rift does events right, why re-create the wheel.
Why are people only thinking about participating in events if they gain something from it?
Why not do it because the event itself is a reward?
What about the event was a reward in itself? The boring quests with limited background and story? The annoying npcs? The zerging? the lag? The lack of any type of interesting boss mechanics?
Just curious.
Everything in the game offers a reward. Map completion = rewarded. Daily completion = rewarded. I figured if I at least helped out with 2/3 of the event I’d get something for my time. Not sure why that is too much to ask when everything else in the game offers you a reward for your time.
the best part is the make this change when nobody was asking for it, yet dont add things people are asking for

I liked this jumping puzzle overall as well. However apparently there is a way to pretty much bypass all the stepping stones (not counting mesmer). I didn’t do it but I think it involves going to the water near the end of the stepping stones and getting up from there.
yea there is, it allows you to skip probably 3/4 of the stones, you still have to do one last stretch of 4 or 5 though.
I played on Friday night tried doing phase I quests which were bugged, was able to finish the first one on Saturday and then spend a few hours on the new island doing the jump puzzle, events, killing stuff. I did not play at all on Sunday, so just wanted to confirm I will get nothing for my participation other than the jug of karma I got for completing the one quest?
If that is case what is even the point of participating in the earlier phases? If I had known you only get rewarded for hitting the final boss I wouldn’t have even bothered with phase I and II.
Please learn something from Rift. Week+ long events. Easy to identify quests that explain the event and then open up daily quests. The daily quests and other small events that occur randomly throughout the world reward event currency. You can then use this event currency to purchase gear (all levels) cosmetic items, and other “fluff”.
lol “game in crisis”. it is hardly in crisis. every game forum on the planet is a hive of scum and villainy when new content is released.
gear treadmill =/= content
well if a new zone and dungeon and is not your definition of new content you’ll never be satisfied.
i want a gear progression in endgame because there’s nothing else to do, and honestly, if you find this “gear grind” hard then you would die in almost every other MMO out there.
new zone with no incentive to play in
the fundamental flaw with thieves and why you can’t compare them to games like LoL is thief takes ZERO skill to put out massive damage. In games that are actually e-sports that balance around that, it takes high level skill to play the class at a high level (shocker) thus leaving casuals balanced since they can’t do the same thing the pros are doing. In GW2 it’s like push 3 buttons and insta-gib anyone that doesn’t have defensive CDs up. it’s dumb.
Playing thief takes more skill then playing LoL
if lol took no skill it wouldnt be one of the most popular pvp games
