and that’s why pvp is not popular nor watched by many and we have posts like this daily. you can disagree with me all you want but fact is there are very few who take pvp seriously and very few who enjoy watching streams and vids. the game mode is one of the many reasons this is the case.

Still happens in hotjoins all the time and there you got no level difference and somewhat equal access to gear.

thats just because people dont bother reviving in hot join so it’s effectively played as if there were no downed state and bad play gets punished.

If they ever add the option to turn off downed state in custom servers it will be the most popular game mode by far. Quote me on it.

We could let this evolve into a theoretical 1v2 battle in which i’d respond with cleave, poison, interrupt or smthg along those lines but your inital point was ~ leet vs scrubs and i don’t see how that doesn’t apply to the case i brought up. Especially since downed opponents can still cc, damage and get potentially up again.
I think you are just making too many exceptions why a won 1v2 is never truly won.

Edit: Also the point about adding a healer to a fight was certainly not that he arrives when someone is killed, but that he arrives when someone is close to beeing killed. Because that’s what downed state is, an extension of your health pool.

the difference is you require a specific class to assist you, which is strategy. You have to send your healer to save him, vs anyone can come “save” you in GW2. Do you send the healer or keep him back with the rest? vs whoever closest/fastest go help then return. like i said, add a no down state option in custom servers and it will be the most popular mode played.

Saying etc, etc doesn’t exactly build a point. Moreover I question your understanding of the mechanics of this game, you can cancel an on-going ability/animation so long as its not a mobility skill that has a fixed trajectory and must carry out said trajectory. (Unless, somehow everything is vastly different when not playing a guardian.)

Neverwinter’s combat is not good as far as my opinion of it goes, and its certainly never going to amount to anything in PvP because of the crazy model its running with in the cash shop.

I’ve generally never understood the dislike of downed state except on a topic of balance between the classes. Its a mechanic and you learn to play with it, just as in Aion you’d learn to play with flying.

flying didn’t make 2v1 lesser skilled players extremely difficult and 3v1 virtually impossible

In a balanced mmorpg with equally geared people 1v3 will ALWAYS be impossible, and 1v2 rare

with equal gear AND skill maybe. but an elite player should be able to take out multiple lesser skilled players. or if equal skilled players perform poorly they should be punished for it. but with downed even a couple bad players or someone who makes tons of mistakes can simply be saved by down state

1 vs 3 even 1 vs 5 happens regularly in WvW. The fact you don’t have that happen in tournament may be means the match making actually works on personal skill level?

Game is fun to watch with good shout casters and good camera control. It’s even better with pro players, because you begin to see tactics and coordination. If you could stomp in 1 second, there’s no point in a downed state (which is probably why you said that -_-). Tournament last night had 300 viewers and it was super fun for the players. It’s a start and it wasn’t until I received some advice from better players such as Silven that I actually began to see the major team plays each map and how to challenge different metas with utility, rune, sigil, weapons, etc changes.

wow 300 viewers they might pass the guy who streams auction house play. Sorry but fighting on small points is not fun to watch, it removes certain specs and play styles from even being viable, and stomp in 1 sec would be fine. Look at FPS games with “downed” state, there is no saving, just a last stand bleed out that can be ended with a head shot.

look at the match last night, it was won by point control, back capping and movement rather than superior class skill, which is another reason it’s not fun to watch. People want to see open field skirmishes winning/losing the match, not oh look they capped an undefended node and then 2v1’d the far point while a bunker kept himself alive.

If it is enjoyable to watch or not is personal opinion.
And i think it’s kitten ejoyable with some good shoutcasting and POV switching.

Also i had my fare share of loosing and winning 2v1/1v2 vs worse/better players and there are multiple videos on the net showing that this kind of stuff is possible (remembering some teldo vid, where he 1v3 some “noobs”, just look it up).

And last but not least, if you find it troubling that with the addition of a support guy to a fight a lesser skilled opponent can get carried through it, you must really hate healers in other games.

if my example were another game the player would be dead and waiting for re-spawn when the healer got there leaving for a 1v1 situation which is much more fun to watch.

not until they get rid of conquest and add team ranking. conquest in an mmo is super boring to watch especially with bunkers. I watched teldo stream him as Bunker engi fighting a Bunker ranger so so boring

Seriously, the ladder system could use a degradation of rating over time. Also, why don’t they reveal the rating formula and implement it as a stat in-game? It feels like a chore to keep minimizing and checking if the ladder has been updated.

the thing with wow is it takes a while for the teams and rankings to get established at a new season. with gw2 leaderboard teams played 10 games and got top 20 rank. you couldn’t do that in wow.

here anet, i spend 3 min for you to solve your queue problems:
separate solo q and team q tournies w/ independant leaderboards
only join team tourny with a guild, team leaderboard == guild rank leaderboard

probably everyone here will hate this because it seems restrictive, but it will help create “team” atmosphere and gives a reason to be in a guild.

system is a joke, i played 4 games tonight, 2 vs high rank premades, 1 vs partial premade, 1 vs pug. I lost the 2 to high rank premade and won other 2, yet my rank will probably go down somehow.

I’d rather see them focus on a few other things first.

The map.
Combo fields/heal skills.
Boons/conditions.
Evading/invuln.

Decent queing in a game with mediocre PvP still tends to be mediocre PvP.
People will stick around threw, and enjoy!, mediocre (its not even terrible) queing (after at least a deserter debuff) if a game has worthwhile PvP.

nobody is going to stick around to play as a pug and get placed against premades

1. Rough ETA for solo queue separation (this summer, fall, etc? Will this be the #1 priority after custom arenas get finalized?)

2. How they plan to discourage people from deserting matches (debuff, etc? priority level?)

3. How they plan to stop matches from starting 4v5 (match doesn’t start until a 5th person is found and enters, priority level?)

4. How they plan to keep inactives from screwing up the leaderboard (rank degredation? minimum games played? priority level?)

Would love to hear some info on these items.

i agree with the skill issue. people claim easy to learn hard to master, but it’s just not. Pros separate themselves with team strategy/movement/builds not skill. You see some of these “pros” on their private servers and they get smacked around in small skirmishes without their team mates to come 3v2 on a node.

There’s a bad system out right now, where solo que’ers are facing really hard teams and when some people recognize the people on the other team and realize it’s a team, they bail out.

I don’t blame them, I wouldn’t want to get owned right outside my spawn area while the other team has all 3 points.

When you pvp long enough you regonize people’s name and the premades, people that leave rage instantly because they are facing a premade and sometimes its a premade that is why out of your league. Like that video right there. 40s and 50s vs 30s 10s and a 7.

I know that video is old, but I still see that kind of stuff today solo queing.

yup it’s sad and Jon and the other devs are clueless in fixing it. rift added a deserter debuff within the first month of release

historical evidence indicates that fps gamers who have come to expect private servers as the norm are willing to pay for them. I don’t see any evidence for mmo players. if rank and associated reward system actually offered a meaningful sense of progression people might be more inclined to pay to grind glory faster

IMO the only people who are going to pay are a few top teams and huge guild leaders that will just leave them open for 10v10 no cap glory farming as an advertisement for their guilds

Yup, and while some shoutcasts are fine Id much rather have control of my own camera and look at what I find important, not someone else.

that is the whole point of observer mode, to be able to have your own control, view peoples stats/specs, etc. With the way it is setup, unless you are friends with the top teams, you will be relegated to watching a shoutcast/stream and hope you don’t miss whatever time they have to actually inspect the players. All we got was basically a shoutcast mode. Oh you play a thief and want to watch the thief? sorry streamer is focusing on the mesmer and ele.

If only other multiplayer games had dedicated servers…we could look at those and see however many hundreds of them there are…the historical precedent would be useful…oh well. /sarcasm

The only problem i see with this is being able to see traits because some people have worked hard to get there build to where it is and don’t want to publish it to the whole community.

i love these kind of posts, everytime i see someone say i don’t want to tell my build, then eventually the crack and post it, and it’s just a standard fotm build that is already well known.

still conquest only, so no. How often do you see even fights in conquest? Like never. It’s always a 1v1 that ends in a 1v2 or 2v2 that ends in a 2v3, not exciting to watch someone slide over to a point to gang bang a roamer. Khylo prolly the only map that would be better to watch.

Even though I agree with the changes, I can understand why mesmers are complaining. Eles on the other hand, I don’t get it. I thought most of them realized that their survivability and combined offensive capability was OP.

Bottom line: The bunker builds are the ones that are considered overpowered, and the change to RtL doesn’t affect bunkers much (because they can facetank damage), but severely reduces the survivability of non-bunkers (because they can’t facetank damage).

It’s not necessarily the end of days for non-bunkers, but they were in a bad place before, and it sure doesn’t promote build diversity.

how does it reduce their survivability? are you escaping from the same fight with RTL twice in 20 seconds? You only need one RTL to disengage if played properly.
