I’ll never understand how you guys think you’re balancing PvP.
Because there are so few legitimate stat combos, it forces people into only one or two builds per class. This is due to the trait lines and the lackluster amount of stats gained from runes. This causes more casual pvpers like me to really avoid pvp. I end up doing it for a distraction, or for certain rewards. I can’t tweak my character at all to compensate for my playstyle. You guys got rid of what limeted build diversity there was when you consolidated the runes and amulets so we couldn’t mix and match.
I used Soldiers on many characters, as I just felt way too squishy. Some characters don’t need any precision, like my necro, who gets a ton from traits. What do I use now? Paladin’s? I DON’T WANT ANY PRECISION!
Give us more diversity or just get rid of everything and force us to play classes with one trait line. This is just ridiculous. There’s a reason why there are so many duelers in WvW and guild halls, because this system is so limiting.
PPK has been asked for by most of the WvW community, although I think most agree that PPS is better as PPK promotes blobbing.
They did communicate today. “We’ve focused a heavy amount of developer resources on this overhaul for WvW, and the team has been working hard for over a year now to solve these complicated issues. We may not be ready to reveal more in early 2016, but you’ll have an opportunity to get all the details and give feedback when we go into the beta phase of this massive project later this year.”
This vague overhaul won’t even be released until maybe the end of the year. Have fun!
So, big press release, more PR BS, lip service from the clueless Colin.
https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/state-of-the-game-update-q1-2016/
There are a few pages of stuff. Regarding WvW of particular note, they’re implementing all the proposed changes that Gaile posted in December. If I’m really obsessive compulsive, I’ll go through that thread and look at what each unique user voted for to see if it’s really reflective of the community. But, this change isn’t coming until January 26th. No idea why they couldn’t do this today. Again, no sense of urgency.
The real load of horse crap:
“We’ve focused a heavy amount of developer resources on this overhaul for WvW, and the team has been working hard for over a year now to solve these complicated issues. We may not be ready to reveal more in early 2016, but you’ll have an opportunity to get all the details and give feedback when we go into the beta phase of this massive project later this year. And as a brief reminder: WvW tournaments are currently on hold, but they’ll return once we’ve released this new format for WvW.”
I still call BS that this has been in development for over a year. But according to the horses mouth, it takes them 2 years, a WHOPPING 2 YEARS to implement a change that they think will fix, update, and introduce new things. That is an insanely long time. Meanwhile, new fractals, new living story, probably about the same time, another expansion, more pve updates, more PvP seasons and cash prizes.
So tired of being screwed by hoping Anet will devote more than an intern to WvW (I have no idea if this is true, it just feels that way). I think I’m done.
Takes a lot of skill to pull a lever.
Ever notice those messages we get in chat? Something like, “Can not connect to guild server at this time?”
500? Try adding at least 1 zero to that. (Im 400)
You don’t need to be a a level 400 scribe to make dragon banners, only 300 is needed.
500 gold should get you there. I’m basing my estimate on the dulfy scribing guide; it estimates 768 Resonating Slivers for 1-400, but 423 of those are needed for 300-400.
OK, that’s 237.5 gold just in slivers. But there’s hundreds of gold more in other costs to get you there as well. Butt tons of wood, sand, whatever. And this isn’t done in a vacuum. It costs the guild thousands of gold to upgrade the guild hall to the point to unlock this stuff for you’re scribing.
Quoted from Dulfy synopsis:
http://dulfy.net/2016/01/08/gw2-jan-8-guild-chat-livestream-notes/
“Development Balance (Colin)
In the previous years we did lots of biweeky/monthly updates. In 2015 our focus was on HoT with some updates. in 2016 we are trying to find a balance between frequent game updates and working on the next expansion.
We want to focus on all the game modes. We are working on polishing existing game modes instead of experimenting with new stuff. Want to focus on depth instead of breath.
WvW overhaul has been in development for over a year now. There are lots of core things we still need to do including population balance etc."
I’m really getting tired of hearing this. Same old, same old.
First of all, I don’t believe for a second that y’all have been working on some WvW overhaul for over a year. If you assigned one guy to start taking notes and having it be a project they do every now and then when they have nothing else to do, that doesn’t count. Secondly, HoT was your opportunity do do a major WvW overhaul. You did. New map, new mechanics. OK, so a lot of people didn’t like it. But that was it. Whatever you’re doing now, I just don’t believe it. Third. So much stuff is screwed up, why the kitten are you working on some new system? Stability is totally screwed up because you made it stacking instead of duration, and introduced even more CCs into the game. Classes are totally unbalanced. There are gamebreaking bugs out the kitten , like the waypoint not being contested and walls that don’t take damage, etc.
This stuff needs to be fixed ASAP. And I mean, Tuesday, January 12th. Don’t give us another blog post about your “roadmap for 2016.” Do it NOW. Why is there no sense of urgency? Is this a generational thing? What don’t you get about that? Less updates and more resources devoted to the next expansion? Are you joking?

Obsidian Sanctum or Guild Hall. Go there. Leave the WvW for the rest of us.
Having played with and against dragon banners a bit now…I have to respectfully disagree that they are an I-win button. They are powerful, yes, though their main power comes not from the fact that they have high damage skills, but specifically because the skills damage more than 5 people at once. But they are hardly all-powerful, and anyone getting 1-shot by them needs to stop running full zerk ele. The game has changed. You can’t run full glass anymore and be effective. Get over it.
They are very clearly designed to be an anti skill-less blob weapon. Any coordinated group worth their salt is not going to have a problem with them. The counters to them are numerous and are generally found in any skill group. Use your focus party to take down the banner carrier quickly (hint: he’s the only one with a defiance bar, pretty easy to find, and if he’s doing as much damage as you claim then he’ll be pretty squishy too). Dodge out of the dragon banner 5 skill (it moves insanely slow and is impossible to miss). Don’t push through a choke that is covered in AoEs. Wear a little PVT armor for crying out loud.
These are anti-pug weapons. Because they hit more than 5 targets they allow smaller, coordinated groups to take on larger, less coordinated groups. That is a really, really great thing, something this game needs more of badly. Yes of course big groups can use them too, but if they aren’t coordinated the banners lose a ton of their potency. And if you find yourself outnumbered against a big, coordinated group using them…go somewhere else on the map (or another map). You probably wouldn’t have had much luck against that group even if they didn’t have banners.
The problem with dragonbanner isn’t in fights, but when used against small havoc groups trying to put down siege. I doubt very much that Anet ever intended a single defender to have so much power against small groups of attackers.
This. This is the major problem, especially with dragon banner 5. It is a 1-shot easy kill against cata rushes that requires even less skill than a siege-disabler (a pretty low bar to cross). Given that the whole purpose of banners is anti-personnel and not anti-siege, I wouldn’t be opposed to disabling their ability to damage siege.
Well said. 15 characters
I’ve never had a problem with the dragon banner. Just dodge or move out of the fire, cleanse. No big deal. The centaur banner is much worse with the constant immobilizations. One uses up all your cleanses trying to move, in the meantime, you getting caught in the enemy “bomb.”
I don’t understand this at all.
I never read Redit. I hate the site. The format is terrible. IMO, this is the official site; if it isn’t posted here, or on the home page, then it isn’t official. Unfortunately, that’s not the case, and I depend on others to share information.
Why don’t you just make a policy prohibiting devs from posting anywhere else? For the life of me, I can’t understand why this isn’t the case.
can we make Barricades mean something?
Turn them into walls… that can be hit by players. Make them something you have to actually choose… “Do we take the time to take this down.. or do we go the long way around”Currently they are just a minor speed bump, no different then a sentry.
That’s how it was in beta. I have no idea why they made it barricades. Towers meant something more when they were walls.
The BLs are imbalaced and favor the north keep. Since the east and west keeps are different as well, you need three maps for balance.
Also, keep in mind there was a lot of time that in T1 and T2 all maps had ques during prime time, not just on reset night.
Some of the daily chests have 20 BoH
Anyone who had BoH before were not WvW players. WvWers spent their badges on siege.
This is pretty uncalled for.
You basically gain 2 notches every 3 WXP levels. That’s pretty fast. Not only that, you get to unlock mastery points along the way. If you maxed out your elite spec, then just turn them in for siege and use them, or sell it on the TP for gold.
Anet already reduced the points needed by half. Not only that, they basically doubled the tokens that drop from the level up chests. They really oiled and greased the squeaky wheels on this subject.
Why are people so scared of PPK? It was fun last time! We did not see less roaming groups/havoc groups/fights. It was business as usual, just with added points.
Because some guilds / timezones / servers are terrible at fighting. They win PPT because they have more coverage but have a terrible K/D ratio, so they will loose when engaged in a fights. Some people just want to PvD.
This is a great step in the right direction. Not because of any specific change, but because of the communication. The mandate is communication every two weeks. We don’t care if it’s one bug problem for two months straight. A communication post from the wvw devs (say the last half hour of a Friday work day) is all we want. Say they had a great cupcake that day, IT DOESN’T MATTER THE CONTENT, literally just a winkey smiley face saying it’s coming and we will complain. BUT, we will complain joyfully, because there would be an outlet. We don’t care if you read it, but we want you to talk to us. We want you to say that this bug is known and that your working on it. You can work on that bug for four months straight, as long as it’s known, we don’t care. In this time and location, specifically here, you are OUR god., preach.
Speak for yourself. I don’t want to be placated with red posts. I want substantial changes. I want our community to be heard because this is a great game mode and the only one like it I know of. I’ve quit the game before because of blatant neglect by the devs. If they don’t care about this game mode, why should I support the game? I won’t. I quit over the transmutation stone changes screwing us on all our WvW equipment, and I’ve barely been playing because of the massive neglect to the current state of WvW: game breaking bugs with walls that don’t take damage; p2w guild halls; huge class imbalances; auto upgrades; waypoint crap; poor map design with a center event that occurs once every 3 hours makeing it a wasteland; etc.
How many CDIs, adopt a dev, and other feedback programs have been out there? Lots. How much has WvW changed over the last few years? A little. Some big things, some small, some things that people think are features but are really just them fixing the game (like culling and lag).
They’ve said these 4 changes, with the possiblity of alterations based on our feedback, will be introduced early next year. That’s a rather vague time-frame. No mention of bringing back Friday reset, which is so simple to do, and which everyone wants, except for the very few people who have to work during that time.
So, no, some placating red posts will not keep me appeased. Meaningful red posts means a heck of a lot more. Seeing these changes implemented on the first Tuesday of the New Year will keep me around for a bit longer.
The auto attack on my DH while wearing tank gear except for the bow, being zerk, hits for between 1.5 and 3.5 K. one of the other skills, 2 or 3 I’ve seen hit for 10K. That’s just stupid OP. I’d hate to see what the damage would be like If I was wearing zerk trinkets.
Before HoT, the damage coefficients were always higher on melee attacks than range attacks. This is due to the risk / reward. HoT pretty much threw that out the window. But not only that, almost all the damage coefficients on the elite specs are higher then non-elite specs.
I completely agree. Siege refreshing is the same pointless, boring, stupid busy work as manually clicking upgrade buttons. it forces people to break off of active play to go click arbitrary buttons. Manually upgrading things and refreshing siege are the exact same problem in that they make you go do pointless busywork just to keep or rank up stuff you’re already fighting to maintain by holding your front line and keeping the enemy away from those siege emplacements or objectives..
Siege refreshing is necessary. It is one of the only ways to curb siege trolls. If a siege troll fills a local limit or map limit with rams, the only way to let the map’s limits open up again is to let the siege decay. This way, the troll not only has to build the siege, but needs to refresh it as well.
Siege decay is needed as a map’s siege limit will be filled if too many rams are used throughout a map to take objectives.
Siege decay is needed in order to let the paper, crap siege go away in favor of superior siege.
I like these added changes so I give Anet credit for that but:
PPK should bin there from start and its just mindblowing that it hasnt, when it is in PvP and if u look at old games with WvW it was a factor. Killing enemies should ALWAYS bin high priority and ofc rewarded as such. A Kill-Log Boook (like Dammaz Kron for WaR) is something Gw2 missed out on badly.
Oasis & Rock-Wall-Maze was an extremely bad idea and even worse in execution… the added Stealth-Mist isnt makeing it better either and the whole area surrounding the Oasis is what confuses ppl and throw them in a maze that most Guilds actually avoid NOT use. Its something that highly contributes to the hate towards the new borders and CLEARLY no communication has ever bin had with WvW community pre-hot regarding this.
I like the NPC scouts tagging ppl but it also took away something from the WvW community, alot of ppl find it enjoyable to scout for there side and thats hardly there now.
Collision detection should have bin part of the game, sry but running thro enemies arent as fun as acually haveing collisions. This is miss alot.
Changes aside its just a little to late atm, most I know gave up long time ago and Iam here still due to 1 thing only: the combat is really really good and fun. But even this wont keep me past CU Beta stage2 where I will leave this game for good so cant say that any changes u do now will make any diffrence to me and well my old friends and WvW Guildies have already left and started up in CU… same goes for basicly any big Guild that ever where a vital part of WvW in Gw2.
There we will get the focus we want and crave and all tho we still dont know how it will turn out I doubt any will return to this sinking ship. The changes u are makeing now is done for a community that has moved on already… they got tired of not being heard.
My God, man, learn to write! You’re not sending a text on a phone.
Thanks for this update. I think it means a great deal to the community to be given this heads up and letting us know that you guys are listening and working on WvW.
My personal feedback:
Auto upgrade change. Great! Never should have been released to begin with. You were made aware of this issue in beta.
Cata change. Makes little sense. Just make guild catas cost half of regular catas: 30 supply. This is obviously to try to help the smaller groups out there, which it would and is good. But the reason why catas cost more is because it’s siege that has more options. As such, it should be more expensive than rams. The guild cata change gave us no reason to ever make one when we can buy superior with tokens, off the market, or just make them relatively cheaply. I do realize you were tying to make them less powerful, but they do cost a heck of a lot more to make / buy. When I command small ops stuff, even if it’s only a couple people, I almost never used them because I’m cheap. However, considering how far supply depots are to objectives, that would change. The price would go up and people would have to face the hard decision on whether to use one or not.
PPK. Great. I’d rather have PPK than nothing, but I STRONGLY urge you to look at PPS (points per stomp). PPK incentivises blobbing. Just try to get as many people as possible and mow down anyone you come across. This encourages brainless gameplay as they will be rewarded for doing very little. PPS introduces a tactic in battle that needs to be adddressed. Something that enriches the gameplay even more is a good thing. This way, if a blob does run over a small group, they aren’t rewarded for it, as they usually have so much dps, that the enemy melts and stomps cant be had. It also is a good thing for Anet, as it puts value on finishers and will help gem store sales.
1:1 Rally system. Great! Never understood the existing mechanic. Totally unfair.
No in combat ressing of dead people. I’m against this. If you’re in combat, and ressing, you’re risking getting killed yourself or not with the commander attacking, unless the commander brings the group to res. If that does happen, then it gives the enemy a perfect opportunity to strike. It’s just one more thing that takes away combat options, and certain player roles, which I’m never for. Also, considering that if the battle is shifted slightly away, then people can res the dead players if need be, so it almost makes this change an inconvenience rather than trying to fix something that really wasn’t broken to begin with. It also encourages blobbing and will shift the meta towards dps. It will also completely eliminate certain traits, which some people do use. Pin sniping is also a big concern. Changing the rally system is way more important than this. This is a change that I don’t think people have been asking for and only dumbs down gameplay.
No matter what, most these changes are good things that the community has asked for, some of which for 3 years. Again, please consider changing PPK to PPS. Please implement them asap.
Other things that will be super easy to change that need to also be done quickly:
*Bring reset back to Friday.
*Change the waypoint system so that the northern team can use the waypoints on the side keeps (I may be out of date on this).
*Make it so enemies can’t res keep lords, or if you are staunchly against this, then make it so it’s just as hard to res them as it is to kill them. If we can’t res allies in combat, then a lord should count towards this.
*Get rid of all servers and create 9 new ones to consolidate into in order to fix population.
The rest are more difficult to implement, but if you’re reading the forums, you’re well aware of them.
Thanks again, and look forward to playing and leading again when your proposed changes are introduced.

ANet did a great job with the Arrow Cart line of sight fix. First, it could hit inside any structure when placed properly. Then they “fixed” that but it also made it impossible to hit anything outside a structure as well. Then they did the proper fix, and they did it very well – now Arrow Carts cannot hit inside structures but can be placed in out-of-reach areas while still being able to hit outside.
This is the type of mentality that infuriates me, not only about this game, the approach of Anet, but the people of today.
I do acknowledge that it was something that needed to be fixed, and it was fixed, albeit, not in a timely manner. This issue existed FOREVER. The only reason why it got fixed when it did is because of the camera changes that came out mid year made it so everyone could exploit the issue, not just people with multiple monitors and ifinity. The squeaky wheel got louder. That’s all.
Here’s the thing: why are you, and we (I’m not immune to this. I gave a big thank you when they fixed culling), thanking them so much for fixing things that were broken to begin with? That’s just a pretty sad state of the gaming community.
It’s like you buy a new car, and there’s all kinds of stuff on it that are broken or not working right. Yeah, it’s new, and has a really cool body shape, tinted windows, awesome paint job, and gets you from point A to B. But, the alignment is off, the radio only gets AM stations, the suspension is off. The AC only puts out heat. Only the passenger window roles down. Then, slowly, over the course of a couple years, the car company fixes each thing. We’ve been living with no AC in the summer, so we’re super happy when they fix it. But it never should have been sold in this state to begin with.

Great post, op.
This just ignores the substantial feedback that takes issue with the map itself – a large part of the problem IS the map, not just the mechanics. People have left lengthy criticisms of the map’s verticality, winding paths, and far too numerous choke points for a host of reasons. You can pretend it’s just inept mechanics holding the map back all you want, but I quit weeks ago – as did many others – and there’s zero chance of us logging back in until both the map itself and the mechanics are rethought/redesigned. ANet has a solid record of incompetence when it comes to WvW at this point; it’s going to take a lot more than an acknowledgement of poor design/implementation and a promise to do better.
Well this is just my opinion. Realistically spoken there is close to zero chance they’ll just give us the old maps since it’s basically the biggest promise for hot in terms of WvW, and neither will they work on a remake for another 6 months.
And while I do wish the map was more open it’s definitely the last thing that I see as a problem. (I’d rather go for a useful balance patch)You also have to think from the company’s perspective. They’ve been working on this map since 1-1.5 years and it cost them a couple hundred thousand dollars.
Just removing some mechanics to focus more on the pure WvW experience would make sense from an economical perspective while still providing us players a better experience.
The other option would be to rework the map, which takes some months and in which you can expect close to zero visible activity from the devs again. Is this what you want?
I don’t know what you’re talking about. I think there were a whole 2 people who were responsible for this new map. One who did all the environmental stuff (who actually built it), and one who did all the programming for the mechanics / npcs. I can’t remember their names. One is female, the other male. I played with the environmental artist a few times in TS. They seem like nice people, but they are not WvW players. I highly doubt they were working on this map for over a year. If they were, then it wasn’t full time.
The issue is anet does NOT commit the resources to WvW as they do to other parts of the game. HoT was releases with 4 pve maps that are huge with major, complex programming involved with all the events going on and lots of new monsters with new animations and mechanics.
So, you’ve had a year to fix it and didn’t.
Jesus, Fin, enough about the lords. Everyone here disagrees with you. Small groups can kill lords super fast. If your experience is different, then you need to look at your groups compositions and builds.
If you’re standing around staring at another group across a choke for 10 minutes and you find that boring, then do something about it. Change up your gameplay. Get some good mesmers. Get better frontline with different group comp and builds. Drop some offensive siege. I don’t know what you need to do, but change things up. If you’re staring at each other for 10 minutes across a choke, then you’ve already lost. Again, stop blaming the map. Change your tactics.
True, chokes can promote pirate shipping. I equated that to blobbing because pirate shipping is typically a blob mentality. My bad on that.
The lords are easy to kill with small groups. A group of 10 should be able to kill a lord in 30 seconds or less. The problem is the scaling with large groups. It’s way to kitten high. The really kittened up thing is that while a large 3 way fight may take forever to kill the lord, it only takes seconds to res him. This needs to change.
But really, why are we talking about this? Yanniell said that he got sick of it and started playing PvP. But even that’s screwed up. They come out with leagues before any serious class balance changes which are desperately needed, and when there are issues, they are fixed in pvp and pve very quickly.
They did reduce the frequency of node spawns, and a few tweeks to proof of heroics, but that’s about it. While they improved the waypoint system in one way, they made it worse in others. It’s clear they still have their head up their kitten and are not going to significantly change things. Doing so would require a ton of resources that I don’t see them committing to. The map needs a major rework to improve the flow towards the center rather than just a circle round the outside, and removal of the oasis event and bringing back bloodlust or any kind of mechanic that makes the center more relevant. I used to command small ops stuff about every other afternoon. I haven’t done that once since HoT came out.
If they haven’t gotten it by now, they will never get it. I don’t see a point in hoping anything will change soon. One of the reasons I haven’t logged in for a week and a half.
Edit: Oh, and btw, if anyone from Anet IS reading this, I’m a customer who did buy HoT, and shelled out an extra $40 buck to buy another character slot, some utility things, extra bank tab, and some shinies off the TP. WvWers spend money.
(edited by Spurnshadow.3678)
I agree with some of this.
It is not chokes that promote blobbing, but rather the waypoint system. Because enemies that capture keeps not close to their spawn, they don’t own the waypoint. Also, now that they properly implemented their no waypoint while contested system, we can no longer get back to a fight quickly. Because of this, we need to bring as many people to a fight as possible to ensure there are people still alive to kill the enemy / res dead allies. Basically, if you wipe, game over. That only promotes blobbing.
The lack of bloodlust promotes blobbing. The center of the map is irrelevent and there’s no reason for anyone to be there.
Auto upgrades promotes blobbing because there’s very little reason to have scouts. Camps and yaks have no importance, so there’s no need to split forces up to defend them. Since all those people no longer need to be in other parts of the map, they’re with the commander(s). There’s more, but it’s been said a ton in other posts.
Chokes do not. If you’re having a problem with chokes, that’s on you.
I’ve played with you many times. Frankly, you haven’t adapted to the meta of the new classes and the stability changes back in march. I play with many other commanders, and I command occasionally as well. Basically, there are some great frontline classes that can wreck enemy zergs. Scrappers and reapers immediately come to mind. When playing with more bold commanders that are more frontline centric with proper squad set-ups and are able to read the enemy movements properly, we wade in and destroy them. Sustain is the keyword.
You tend to be much more cautious and timid, and when you do push, it’s usually ill timed. You blame your allies for not being with you, dying too much, or sniping. You say that whoever pushes first usually looses. I find that to be just the opposite. Whoever pushes first, usually wins. If you have a group split into two, yes, often times the large zerg will run over one, then the other. But that is a lack of communication and co-ordination between the two commanders. When you get two commanders that work and communicate well together, it is devastating.
Look more inward, not outward.
(edited by Spurnshadow.3678)
@OP. What a joke. Granted, your post is written nicely, but you’re delusional.
You transfer servers multiple times and you honestly think server loyalty or pride has anything to do with YB being where it is now? You have no clue. It was because multiple guilds transferred to YB while the other guilds in T2 transferred to T3. If you were on YB before fall this year, then you could just coast along for the ride.
Wake up to the reality of what’s really been going on.
Another screenshot of BG T1 on reset. Why is this taking so long? At this point, and with the lack of people keeping this thread alive, i can only think that people just don’t care anymore.
Server identity and community is a crucial part of WvW.
Agreed. Some people seem to think otherwise and I imagine those are the people who don’t socialize within their server but only within their guild. Not everyone either has a guild or is that familiar/comfortable with the guild they’re in.
I understand the idea that server identity and pride sound unimportant but they absolutely are important. Look what happened with automatic upgrades, it takes that feeling of success away when you manage to defend something because there was no work involved in getting it upgraded. Thus, a lot of people have stopped caring to defend at all. It’s a similar idea with server identity, without that sense of community, victory feels a lot less victorious.
We’ll see when/if it actually becomes a thing I guess but as far as I’m concerned I won’t be staying around for long if it does. I’ll see how things pan out but I don’t have high hopes… I love my server and if I don’t feel like I’m fighting for it I don’t care to do anything but blob or not play at all.
I mean, if they do away with servers, then there’s no identity. If that’s the case, then just do away with scoring and PPT alltogether. After all, what’s the point of trying to win? You have no idea who you’re winning or loosing to. And it will all change from week to week, so there will be no rivalry. Isn’t that half of the point to WvW? I think so.
I’ve been advocating for years that we need to get rid of all servers and create 6-9 new ones, creating new identities, as the population is so low, but a faction / guild leader / eotm style is not a solution.
You people have no clue how hard it would be to administer a server wide TS let alone to do so every week. This will never happen.
I would quit, but I’ve already been playing less and less due to Anet’s lack of attention.
95% of the community (whatever, so I made it up) hates the stability change from mid-March. Ignored.
Feedback on the new maps in beta:
Get rid of turrets. Ignored.
Oasis event is dumb. Makes the center of the map unimportant almost all the time compared to an existing system that makes the center of the map important all the time. Favors the first place server. Causes insane lag when active. Ignored.
Map isn’t too big, but there are so many obstacles to get from point A to B that it takes a longer time to get from point A to B. (For esample, huge stone cliffs in between air keep and center. Lots of zig zags needed to go north and south around air keep) Ignored.
Major class imbalances. Ignored or made even worse.
Reset night moved to Saturday (I still can’t figure out why) and for whatever reason, not moved back to Friday. Ignored.
Majority thought auto-upgrades were bad, but I think that people were willing to give it a try. I think that most of the community agrees this is a failure do to marginalizing roaming groups, making it much more difficult for smaller groups / servers to have an impact, removing strategy of yak/camps. Ignored.
WvW upgrades we’ve already unlocked now need to be unlocked again behind massive gold and time gating that only the largest guilds can accomplish. My kitten hurts from how hard we got screwed on this.
Waypoint system still needs work.
Guild catas nerfed to obsolescence.
New maps only encourage blobbing due to all the above.
PvP and PvE still gets an insane amount of attention compared to WvW.
Now, there are some good things. We did get a new map, albeit, one that needs work. Sentries are better. Not having supply tied to the upgrade process and a predetermined path is a great fix. They did listen to some things from beta, such as reducing the ambient npc population and reducing the rewards from harvesting nodes. But this pales in comparison to the above, or the immediate attention given to PvP.
Factions? Yes, this would absolutely destroy WvW for me. Server identity and community is a crucial part of WvW.

I’ve created multiple threads starting about 1.5 years ago asking for something like this. So have others. I suggested creating 6 or 9 all new servers with new names and having a week to fill them ….. Anyway. Been suggested.

A few days after afking, cheating, intentional manipulation, and all kinds of other bad behavior, attention is given to PvP. We’ve been asking for changes based on similar behavior for years and gotten nothing. These guys do this for a few days, and the hammer gets dropped. Makes me sick.
In the short-term, our customer support team will be investigating reports of this and punishing the behavior accordingly. Please use the “Botting” reporting option to bring these instances to the attention of our team. For a longer-term solution, we’ll be working on improving the in-game reporting system to better handle these types of situations. Chris Clearly has been posting on the topic here.
Un-kittening-real. One more example of just how little attention is given to WvW. We’ve asked for a reporting tool for 3 years. We’ve had all kinds of trolling behavior, such as people building siege to waste supply, people building siege to fill the maps or local siege limit. One thing the community asked for was better reporting tools, and we never got it. 3 days after this shenanigans happening in a pvp tournament, and you get all the love. Oh, and what about the deliberate fixing of WvW season 2 that was well documented and shown to Anet? They said they weren’t going to do anything about it. Makes me want to puke.
I do appreciate that you guys are getting this attention. At least one pvp game mode is getting something. But, honestly, all this could have been figured out in one hour of a meeting. It just takes common sense. Just ask the question: how can this system be abused, if at all? What will people do to progress easier than we intend? Why is is so hard for Anet to figure these things out before releasing content?

Or, as time goes by, your ladder is expanded to get a match at the cost of being paired with someone below your ladder.
Getting these a lot now. I used to get them rarely. Probably from a hiccup with my internet. GW2 seems very sensitive to internet stalls. I don’t notice them on anything else because my internet stays connected, but GW2 crashes to character select. However, I’m able to instantly get back into the game after double clicking my character. This is happening much more frequently now. Nothing has changed on my end (with the exception of cycling my modem), and it’d be unusual for my isp to have an issue this long. I have extremely fast speeds.
Just keeping this wheel squeaky.
Terrible idea. Tons of threads asking this same question. Please stop as a dev just might get it in their head to do this. Although, probably not as that would require a bunch of programming.
I feel we were basically lied to. We were told it was going to be a grand adventure taking us to different places, maybe asking us to do things we haven’t done, or haven’t done for a long while. We were told that things like luminescent gear was a testing ground for precursors. This system is nothing like those.
But it’s harder to get your specialization weapons or ascended faction backpieces than precursors. The grand adventure is basically go here, go there, do some fractals, and spend hundereds of gold crafting. In almost every case, it’s cheaper or the same cost to buy it off the TP. That is exactly what we’ve been trying to avoid.
This is all pointless. They aren’t going to change anything. It’s too late now. If they made the system fair at this point, it would totally screw over the guilds that have already sunk thousands into upgrades.
I’m a WVWer. Larger guilds, like, well, no names, already have some of their auras unlocked, whereas smaller guilds like mine don’t have anything unlocked. Other WvW guilds that are really PvX have lots of stuff unlocked. But both are effective WvW guilds. One regularly fields 20-30 on raid nights, mine fields 15-20 on raid nights. The difference is that the larger one has more people who do pvx. A guild I was recently in was sitting on 7,000 gold, whereas my current guild is sitting on 10.
Again, this isn’t going to change. Just accept it, be depressed, or stop playing.
This sounds like a passive aggressive post.
If not, you need to just play and figure out what to take away and enjoy from WvW.
Honestly, though, maybe this just isn’t the game for you.
I play a rev, Tongku, and no, you’re wrong. I run full zerk with cavalier armor, and runes of fury. Basically, I stack as much ferocity as possible. I get bonus precision and direct damage from traits, and I don’t even need to have the aura for fury up, as it stacks duration, so as soon as I enter a fight, I can get rid of it and just keep the might aura up. No need to have swiftness in a fight, so I pop that aura off as well. Now I’m only worried about energy for regen and might. I will have 8/9 stacks of might up, not counting anything from allies.
Yes, I’m sacrificing some power for toughtness, but it’s minimal as far as total dps is concerned, and I still have great survivabliity, as I have a shield on weapon swap.
I have just over 60% CC with 230+ CD. My auto attacks will crit for over 6K.
Now, my ele does similar dps in full zerk with soldier armor. I think people are over-reacting a bit because hammer 2, 3, and 5 can not be spammed as it uses energy. I’d say my reaper does more dps and has better survivablity than either class.

Lets keep this going. Reset night on BG: not a que on any map, even EB.
So far, I have 14 verdant, and 12 Auric. Do I just have super bad luck, or am I missing something?
I was wondering this too. Makes me sad. I quit over the transmutation stone change and how all our sigils and runes got stuck in WvW gear. I really don’t know why I’m sticking around. This is so dumb.
WvW is about fights AND winning. If you create a megaserver with no identity then there is no point in having a score and no point in trying to win because there is no identity as to who won. If you just want to fight another guild, they have the OS and they made arenas in guild halls.
