Allow turrets/objects to take burn damage?

Be very careful how you nerf this build.

Already there’s barely any condition clear, stun break and the build is immobile.

Frankly having turrets auto destruct when an engineer moves to far away is plenty.

I would pay 50 bucks for this.

This is just a simple – and, for many of us – enjoyable April Fools Day joke. For posters on this forum to try and associate it in any way with the recent tragedy is insulting and inflammatory, at minimum.

It is really easy to draw lines between things that, in reality, have nothing to do with each other. For example, different races fight against each other every day in GW2 pvp, but I don’t think anyone sees that as a statement about, or allusion to, racial strife in the real world.

I think we are seeing a lot of these posts because people don’t like the joke (which is okay) but realize simply stating that wouldn’t have the same impact as trying to incite moral outrage (which is ridiculous in this case – its just a simple April Fool’s Day joke).

Having players stick their arms out to the side and giving the screen a 1950s aviation film feel isn’t a social statement or allusion to anything – it’s just a fun little joke (which will be gone later today anyway).

Well spoken!

Everyone should read this.

1.) Maw – pretty good where it’s at, but is too easy to stack on him and not have to do anything but auto attack.
2.) Shadow Behemoth – Not enough health. Doesn’t do anything beyond spawn portals – mobs from portals are irrelevant.
3.) Fire Elemental – Nowhere near enough health. Otherwise mechanics are fine.
4.) Golem Mark II – Need to remove safe spot. Rotating gun damage needs to be higher.
5.) Jormag – pretty good where it’s at.
6.) Tequatl – pretty good where it’s at.
7.) Taidha – Doesn’t do much of anything when her gate comes down. Something more needs to happen here.
8.) Megadestroyer – pretty good where it’s at.
9.) Shatterer – Needs something more. Adds are useless. Achievement here is almost impossible to get. Too easy to stand in safe spot and burn him down. Health is fine.

When I started GW2, I thought ‘WvW isn’t for me, I’m not going to do that!’.

Then I did some WvW because I needed to for world completion, found I actually quite enjoyed it, and now do so regularly.

But if it hadn’t been required for WvW completion, I’d never have got into it in the first place.

This is complete bull. PvP isn’t required for world completion. You’re telling me you haven’t tried it either?

Hey everyone! Thank you for taking the time to read this post. [RAID] on Ehmry Bay is recruiting. Enjoy snakes? Cave diving? Temple running? Indiana Jones? Have a whip fetish? We may be just for you.

We’re a small guild and plan to keep it that way. Our roster will not go beyond 50 people. We want people to know each other, be friendly with one another and never have a stranger in our guild. The more tight-knit we can be, the better!

We’re also going to be very picky in our recruiting. We only want the best, mature, relaxed and funny people that we can get. Come have a good time and leave drama at the door!

We plan to touch every aspect of the game. From deep dungeon running, to PvP and WvW. We’d like to form a pvp group for the new Stronghold map coming out. We have guild forums, a guild FB page, a mumble server and we’re currently unlocking guild missions – going to be unlocking Challenges soon.

If you’d like to message me in game and chat with me about it, please do! My name is Maksyn and my account name is Stark.1350. We’d prefer people only on Ehmry Bay or those willing to transfer.

See you in game!

How can we changed WvW to prevent the blob

in WvW

Stark.1350

There are many ways to get rid of the blob.

1.) Increased damage debuff the more people are stacked together.
2.) The NPC guards in EotM actually use AoE. The ones in WvW do not.
3.) When you take a large keep, have multiple points they need to capture instead of just blob rushing to the lord.
4.) My personal suggestion has always been new siege called the “Asura lightning cannon”. Lightning shoots out and leaps from target to target, causing little damage at first hit, but increases damage for each target it strikes after.

Your last ideal is not too bad (your other ones would not work) kind of a sprides dot where if one person has it and comes close to other ppl then that ppl gives it to the others you could go well over the 5 target cap and likely keep a full zerg debuffed. How about the new “slow” debuff images how powerful it would be if a full zerg has 25% – 75% longer cast times.

You don’t think at least #3 is feasible? I don’t mind #2 either – it does make people move. And the one polar bear keep lord does mass AoE – forces the blob to spread out at that point.

Why do you want to even go that far when fractal weapon skins drop at 20+?

for challenge?

WvW is irrelevant. If an uplevel can run successfully in WvW, a 5% increase in stats doesn’t matter.

it is more than just 5%…. 5% mantra is a lie. And of course it matters. Every advantage in PvP matters. I bet he is not talking about zerg vs zerg but 1v1 or 1v2+ while roaming. An upleveled player will always loose against player with better gear and equal skill. It is simple math. If I hit you for 150 and you have 500hp and you hit me for 200 and I will have only 350hp I will die no matter what every time. Pls stop with gear doesnt matter bs.

Unless you need Arah tokens, this is an irrelevant argument. And even then you shouldn’t need Ascended for this.

Som ppl are doing speed clears of Arrah which is arguably the only somewhat hard dungeon (+ higher level fractals) in this game because it is the only PvE challenge in this game. Beating record time of their last fastest run or even competing with other groups is pretty much the only PvE “end game” this game can offer (arguably ofc). Once you get enough skill to beat any PvE content (in any mmo), the only limiting factor of your own personal perforamce will be your gear.

Because I can imagine a casual player who only has that amount of time to invest, is actually doing any of those things. Give me a freaking break.

I know many people who run Arah regularly and even do lvl 50 fractals that only play for a couple hours a day if at all.

That said, they can easily take a night or two off arah/fractals and jump into Silverwastes and gather all their dragonite needed.

The money is a far more limiting factor at this point IMO thanks to the dragonite rain that happens in SW (got 12 ingots in 4 hours the other night just to give an idea)

So what you’re saying is, someone who played casually had no issue obtaining ascended gear. Right?

what he said is dragonite isnt that hard to get. I never said it was. The primary blockers for people getting ascended is getting the gold, or the raw materials to craft, and leveling crafting itself.

He’s also saying he has a friend that plays casually. And he managed to obtain ascended. What’s everyone else’s problem?

you missed the factor where the effects are multiplied because stats interact.

lets say you want to consider how much damage some one does to you since its based on power weapon strength crit rate and crit damage, having all of these high translates into 10-15% damage depending on the build

lets say you want to consider how hard it is to kill some one
its a function of tougness, armor for damage done, vitality for total damage to a win condition, and healing for how fast they can recover.

so saying 5% more per stat, isnt really the real picture as far as the effective difference in performance.

If you have a car that has 5% more acceralation 5% more top speed 5% better cornering. you have a signifigant advantage in a race.
If you have a team which averages 5% more at the line 5% more feild goals, 5% more blocks 5% more 3 point shots. They are a favorite, and are likely to win.

I’ll take dulfy’s word/math over yours any time of the day.

Well of course bad and unpleasant things happen in real life.

But video games are meant to be an escape from real life. So I think its perfectly reasonable for people to not want unpleasant things like internment camps to happen in their escapist fantasies, especially not when those things are potentially involving the actual players themselves. Its one thing to have a bunch of random unassociated NPCs of some random unplayable race locked up, but another to point that level of hostility towards a race which includes thousands of players. Especially in an MMO where it can encourage that sort of hostility and hatred from other players and not just a bunch of NPCs, whether those people are just roleplaying or genuinely using it as an excuse to hate on others.

If I want an escape from real life and avoid dark and unpleasant things, I would go play Hello Kitty Island Adventure. I can ‘escape’ into a book of fantasy and still have to accept that 99% of the time, there are going to be dark and bad things happening.
A good RPG or story invokes every emotion.

As for a level of hostility towards a race which includes “thousands of players”, I’ve yet to see it in game. Period. Except for maybe a joke or two. And if it’s an excuse to hate on others, /block works really well in game.

Its a reaction to the rhetoric by some of “want something ‘work’ for it” attitude, and the general philosophy by the game industry on the whole that grind be it small or large must exist in a game too cover for there lack of content.

Look, if you’re not going to answer the question, then don’t bother trying to sell me on how right you are.

No, this is exactly what people are asking for. You already has someone mention earlier that they were SO happy they were fully raid geared out in WoW in 2 weeks.

“I can only play one hour a night. I expect to be able to be fully geared out.”

That’s still not asking for just being given it. As with the poster just above me, you’re going hyperbolic about this.

So, one person suggested that ascended armor drops from “mid-level” fractals. What about the person who isn’t skilled enough to do them? How is it fair to them to spend a lot of gold to craft them when you’re getting them for free?

I got my Wupwup Greatbow for “free” when it dropped off a Bonus Chest in WvW during the “Season 2” event between LS parts. So, should I bow down and beg forgiveness for that?

It’s not a terrible idea. Especially considering how the Ascended gear’s functional separation from Exotics is related to Agony. It’s almost the only reason to be using it, since when you start downscaling you might as well be using Exotics anyway.

Nevermind you can get all your ascended trinkets/jewelry just by logging in and getting laurels. Or you can get free ascended mats once a month from the chest of loyalty – again, simply by logging in.

And you can get free Exotic equipment the same way too. You’re not complaining about that being handed to people either. (Especially since it was given to you for map completion of high-level areas, before now.)

Nevermind that ascended armor boxes do drop anywhere. But then you have people whining about the drop rate isn’t high enough.

It’s really not.

What you choose to invest, is what you get out of it. If you can’t invest, don’t expect top flight things. This is the way it’s been in MMO’s since the dawn of time, except for WoW now, which they’ve nerfed into oblivion. Learn to deal with it.

I really don’t care all that much myself – when it came to Ascended and Legendary items and the problem of earning them . . . I opted to just wait and do it at my own pace. They don’t matter to me the same way they do to other posters here – I played fine in Rares before I got the Temple Armor for myself.

But.

There’s a difference between “this stuff shouldn’t require enough silk to clothe all of Cantha” and “gimme now plz”.

I think one could argue that there have been both those types in this thread. (in reference to your last quote.)

With that said, your last paragraph sums up exactly what I’ve been saying this entire time. You still managed to get what you want, just over a longer span of time. Those items didn’t MATTER. And if people can control their WANT over items that DO NOT MATTER, then grind, as it stands, goes away. Unfortunately this has been bled into our systems from MMO’s previous, where items DO matter.

Play the game at your own pace and the rewards come to you. It pays to be in a guild in this game as well. Help out people in the guild and you’ll find the help often comes back your way.

It’s not nearly as “grindy” or as “impossible” as people are making it out to be.

That’s not what I said. I have no problem with having to grind for this like prestige armor and high end achievements. I just want the game to be more like GW1 where your got the best armor in the game over the course of playing through your story. Also, the free ascended mats don’t mean jack if your crafting isn’t maxed. Furthermore, the biggest barrier to getting ascended armor isn’t even ascended mats. It’s usually silk, oddly enough, and there’s no way to get that through the loyalty chests. I’m sure my guild would pitch in for those mats if I asked them to, but I prefer to work up my own character without having to leech off my guild mates.

Having to leech off your guild mates? That’s what a guild is for. Helping each other out. I’ve helped seven different people get their legendary weapons, often by handing them precursors for nothing.

Silk drops like candy in this game. Go run any level 80 zone. Done.

I’m working on my fourth set of Ascended gear here in GW2

Gz. I kinda gave up on getting full exotics after using up the karma points I farmed up from the old map clearing/dailies on a few pieces, and with karma jugs out the window, I found the alternatives not worth the brain damage they would likely cause. As a pvp person who spent most of their time in what was a tremendously unrewarding and often frustrating pvp experience (no team, no win), that pretty much sealed the deal for me, as I found myself quitting not too long ago after.

You can get exotic gear here in GW2 with karma off Orr vendors.

Yea, but if you aren’t big on wvw’s ZvZ, or dynamic event trains, karma sources karma might quickly become somewhat of an issue. Or at least, I wasn’t aware of alternatives aside from the said two sources once they removed karma jugs from dailies/map completion (or was it just dailies? I don’t quite remember anymore.)

BiS doesn’t carry the same weight here as it does in a raidy-gear grindy treadmill game anyway.

Full exotics is all anyone will ever need for anything other than high-tier fractals, and fractals aren’t ‘The Endgame Woo’ at all.

I’m rather disappointed to see you go down the path of the brain-washed. This particular issue of needing vs requiring has been debunked quite well in this thread, surely you couldn’t have missed it.

If something is not needed, if might as well not be there to start with. Ascended doesn’t add anything to the game, and it would be a win-win situation if exotics would be bumped up to ascended level in terms of stats.
If anyone wants to complain about this, remember, the gear wasn’t needed to start with – outside fractals, that is (the agony resistance should stay intact).
To justify the cost, I would also make the gear ‘slotted’, i.e. have the ability to swap out, with no additional cost, the stats/runes according to your current needs and desires – exactly like the gear functions in pvp.

You’re not in Kansas anymore. Skill and Knowledge are BiS here. And lemme tell ya, you can’t farm for that.

What is skill and knowledge? Experience. And what is experience? Exactly, learning through repetition and in a wide range of different scenarios. Or in short, grind.

Since I reckon you’re refering to pve (given the context of BiS), I need to emphasize that ‘skill’ in pve directly translates to having the script learned by heart, which is not really ‘skill’ in the most generic meaning of the expression.
Skill in pvp, however, is a whole different beast, and that even though this game’s pvp falls flat compared to the original.

This post just makes me laugh. Gave up getting full exotics.

I leveled my first character to 80. I finished that leveling experience with 80 gold. Completed all the maps. Bought my first set of exotics. How is this so freaking hard?

Nevermind that ascended armor boxes do drop anywhere. But then you have people whining about the drop rate isn’t high enough.

What you choose to invest, is what you get out of it. If you can’t invest, don’t expect top flight things. This is the way it’s been in MMO’s since the dawn of time, except for WoW now, which they’ve nerfed into oblivion. Learn to deal with it.

And before some smug little part time burger flipper tried to tell me how lazy that must mean I am,

I’m a part time burger flipper and I wholly agree with you.

I don’t play games to work. That’s what a job is for.

Though if ANet wants to pay me to play their game, then sure. I’ll get on their gear grind locomotive and do work.

I used to flip burger myself. And sling tacos. Don’t get me wrong, I’m glad for anybody that has a job these days no matter what it is.

I’m not so glad for those that are typically very young and think ‘I work almost twenty hours a week sometimes and I can make all the raids and I never have any difficulty farming for my loot and leveling and everyone else is just a lazy scrub that isn’t on my level and wants everything on a silver platter’.

Just s lot of snide dismissal for the wee ones that have nothing but free time to do anything they live whenever whim strikes when they treat the rest of us with far fuller lives like we’re lazy because we’re not eager to need to spend 60 hours a week for the next year trying to get the unobtanium with any sort of believable chance at actually succeeding.

Or panning us for not being add invested at doing everything amazingly and buckling down like this is our personal Olympics and the very soul of or pride is on the line.

That’s very well stated. Anyone who has worked a full-time job while helping to raise children will tell you that all time spent playing games is leisure time, not “work.” Time spent grinding for mats in a game could be productively utilized cleaning the house, playing with the kids, cooking a meal, or any of the myriad of chores that are perpetually looming in any healthy household. Time spent in the game is actually time spent being lazy. So when I hear players calling others lazy for complaining about having to spend unreasonable amounts of time being lazy in order to get anywhere in the game I’m left scratching my head.

I still remember my first year of grad school. My typical day:

  • Three hours of class
  • An hour of research and/or homework
  • An hour of teaching
  • 15 minutes commute
  • Nine hours of spare time
  • Ten hours of sleep

Here’s my typical day now:

  • Ten hours of work
  • One and a half hours commute
  • Three hours of family time and/or household chores
  • Three and a half hours spare time
  • Seven hours of sleep

Bear in mind that my youngest kid is now in middle school and somewhat independent. When my kids were infants my spare time was pretty much non-existent. Also note that the spare time I have on weekdays comes at the cost of sleep. Like you, I have very little tolerance for the young ‘uns who want to call me lazy because I don’t think it’s reasonable to have to spend several months farming for mats before I can participate in the high level fractals that my guild mates run.

So because you have more important things in real life to attend to, you should feel you should be handed everything in game. If your guild mates are so high up there, why don’t they help you get mats? Nevermind the fact that the chest of loyalty at the end of the monthly login period gives you free ascended mats.

…I don’t see ascended CRAFT especially grindy – most of materials needed for it drops EVERYWHERE – the only issue of it it limit of one ecto refine of each type per day – but that have nothing to do with grind – you have materials you are just required to wait and can do other stuff meanwhile….

The ascended light armor set requires 36 bolts of damask which means you have to collect 10800(!!) silk scraps. Of course you can buy the damask. At 12g each you need to grind around 430 gold. All of that is pure grind!

The “Light of Dwayna” requires 4500 scraps of silk. I got down to only a few silvers three times in order to get that item. I went down to only a few silvers three times in order to get the silk. Just that ONE item required for the crafting cost that much. The grind was so kitten and boring I nearly quit playing the game entirely! ANet nearly lost a customer because of their kittenty decision with the amount of silk required.

This. This right here is the world’s perfect example. The game has been out 2.5 years. An expansion is coming that does nothing to raise the cap or negate your gear. That’ll probably be around for let’s say, 1-2 years.

So at the minimum, you have/had 3.5 years to get silk enough to craft it. Silk drops like candy. After a week of playing I’ll have 500 in my bank. Just by playing the game however I want.

Not to mention the item isn’t anything you need. It’s just a special cosmetic that you want.

So, once again. “Grind” in this game is only caused by self-inflicted want that you don’t have the willpower to control.

/thread

It’s always funny if people end a statement with something like /thread. Seems like they think their statement is so strong it completely destroys everything that has been said and so the thread can be closed.

But you still simply don’t get it. For those who ‘self-inflict’ the grind (that we know a lot of people do because all the grinding going on GW2 (based on that alone you can consider the game grindy)) it is because most of the stuff they want in this game they can only get (in a viable way) by grinding gold for it. Others might not self-inflict the grind, but that means the whole experience of collecting such items is removed from the game for them.

That is why the grind, or the need to grind IF you want to go for those things, is bad for the game. You can not in a fun (or less grindy) way directly work towards most of those items, and this being a game that should be the case. It would not have to be easy but there should be a better way then grinding… And buying is not playing!

The game maybe makes people self-inflict ´optional´ grind because it’s the only viable way. But in the end, grind is grind and there is no real good in-game alternative for this grind and that is bad.

Please explain how grind equates to playing the game normally and allowing things to come to you over time.

See, this is where I get lost. You have 4.5 years to obtain something. You could easily gather the gold necessary to do that, by just logging in and playing the game how you want to play it. I can’t equate that to “grind”.

“Grind” isn’t fun. I didn’t like having to log into WoW, and do repetitive quests to grind faction out. That to me is grind. And the next expansion was the same thing. And the next.

Logging in, playing how I want to play, and over time, having everything come to me in that fashion, is fun.

That’s just me though. I don’t see any more point to argue with people in this thread. Thanks.

Alright, I’m going to ask everyone in this thread a very simple question.

Say ascended armor was made much easier to obtain. Say it only took a month to complete “challenging content” to fully deck out your character.

With nothing else to work towards, yes or no – would you get bored with the game? And for people that answer yes, isn’t that a major problem for a non-subscription MMO?

Also keep in mind, that there are not adding any gear progression or level changes in the expansion. The game has been out for 2.5 years. And it’s going to be another couple before we see another. So let’s say, you’ve had 4.5 years to obtain your ascended gear and you can get it done in a month now. See if that changes your answer.

Curious, why would they cater and bend to one small minority of players and not others? (and they have said they knew it would have the reaction it got before they released ascended gear )

Because this minority wanted something easy to make and something very easy to monetize (gems -> gold -> materials from TP).

Aside from that…
-Dungeon revamps: theres a dungeon crawl minority that has been completely overlooked.
-Encouragement to play in the open world in any zone: Theres a section of the playerbase that wants to just log in and complete dynamic events in any zone that they choose, but not feel like they have wasted their time. 1.5 silver and 12k XP is a horrible way for rewarding what many consider the whole point of this game.

Just a few examples…

And I understand that they can’t possible address every pocket of players, but I do find it interesting that they addressed the one pocket of players (and issue) that would create one of the largest controversies and debated topics on these forums(and in game).

Well they could addres 2 crowds at the same time by making ascended armor/weapons a guaranteed drop in fractals and harder dungeons (this would require fixing all exploits in Arah and revamp of bosses to not make it easy farm). Ofc with option to craft it like now.

Ascended weapons/armor are random drops from anywhere in the game. They are incredibly rare, but they do drop.
