That’s a pretty reasonable response, Drekor. And yet I’ve read complaints about those that are on vacation, busy or unable to attend at all on Sunday. What about them now?
Look, people who can’t make it at all on Sunday are SOL, that’s nothing unusual. The same can be said for people who can’t play all week – they will miss all of the Halloween activities.
But to have it only occur at a single fixed time through the day is needlessly restrictive. But what about the surprise?? Yeah, much better to exclude people instead.
I’ll be at the event, but I think it’s unnecessary to make people miss out.
So you admit that there must be a line drawn in the sand somewhere and you agree that you can’t please 100% of the population.
Never said their wasn’t a line to be drawn, rather I was speaking to just how rational that line is and the reasoning behind it.
The “one-time @ Noon PST” line is irrational, and the reasoning behind it is “well, it’ll get spoiled on the internet”.
They are literally saying: Hey guys, bad news: there’s an internet here to spoil things now, so we have to exclude you.
Think about if movies worked like this? Sorry, we’re only doing one showing of this movie, otherwise it’ll be spoiled. For who?
Do you think the running that “one-time” event for 24 hours satisfies enough people?
How would you handle that, Plague? I’m not certain there’s a way. And as mentioned earlier, Euacha, I actually thought that wasn’t half bad of an idea. What if they wanted to give away a special exotic item or something like that? And people could farm it over and over, gain special mats and coin or sell it for a ton of money that those who couldn’t attend that day during that time frame start getting upset about because it’s too much to obtain?
That’s a pretty reasonable response, Drekor. And yet I’ve read complaints about those that are on vacation, busy or unable to attend at all on Sunday. What about them now?

But if it’s about participation, you can participate in everything. If you’re mad about the time of the special event or the time in which the holiday ends, how would you fix it to please every single human on the planet able to participate? Or do you want to do away with one-time events and events that must end?
You could have bought the items off of the auction house instead of attempting the lottery.
That’s not exactly what my post was about, but I’ll bite.
1. Why do you feel that everyone should get everything? Why don’t you feel this way about the rest of the game as well?
2. They did sell some items straight up through the RMT store. Just not all of them. See point 1.
This has been the most comprehensive holiday event I’ve ever done in any MMO and we’re only in Act 2.
Could someone do me a favor and explain to me how the stopping of holiday or special events, and one-time events, can humanly possible manage to be accessible to every single human being at a reasonable time?
The only thing possible is that it affects the least amount of people.
So with all the complaints about one-time events, such as Sunday for Halloween, and all the complaints about when the event ends..
.. the only reasonable conclusion is that you’d like one-time events and events that must end at some point to never happen.
Unless someone can provide an explanation on how to please 100% of everyone all the time, you’d prefer a game that never changes. That’s what I’m getting so far.
Meloooooooooooooooooooooodramatics!
Out of all the MMO’s I’ve played, this holiday event has been by FAR the most comprehensive I’ve ever seen – and we still have two acts to go. Amazing job.
Because I knew the risk going into it. I also knew the items were fluff – and had no affect on my game whatsoever EXCEPT to look cool. I don’t recall Sony having a gun to my head screaming at me to buy their fluff items.
If speaking common sense to rampaging children is trolling, well. I guess that’s trolling!
You know, Everquest 2 had the exact same system. Digital trading card packs that had cool looking mounts, house items, and other things that were cosmetic. But the chances at getting the best ones were extremely rare. I spent hundreds of dollars trying to get some things, but I never did. Do you see my jumping up and down and stomping my feet like a 2 year old at Sony? No. Why is that?
20 pages of entitled whiners who didn’t use common sense? You’re right, nevermind. I got my good laugh.
Someone, do explain why you think this is a “scam”. I need a good laugh.

Copied from the patch notes. Here is the definition of chance:
chance
? ?[chans, chahns] Show IPA noun, verb, chanced, chanc·ing, adjective
noun
1. the absence of any cause of events that can be predicted, understood, or controlled: often personified or treated as a positive agency: Chance governs all.
2. luck or fortune: a game of chance.
If you really didn’t have the common sense to know that these will more than likely be rare, or the common sense to wait a day or two and find out (or ask) how rare they might BE, well. Go play the lotto. There’s a chance you’ll be a millionaire.
I’m not sure where the grand mystery is here. I played Everquest 2. I spent hundreds of dollars on their card packs to try and get some of the awesome house items and mounts they had in there.
I knew they were going to be rare. Sony never stated that they were rare, I just figured common sense dictated that.
Has common sense been tossed out the window here?
People complain about anything.
This was an excellent update. Can’t wait to try it more when I get home tonight. Being a giant candy corn monster was hilarious.
Everyone as in european players? So that would have launched at noon for me, while I’m at work. Gee, “I’m getting screwed”.
Can we please stop with the “I’m getting screwed” comments? What are we, 12? There’s no way to launch content where 100% of everyone, everywhere, can enjoy it evenly all the time.
ALL the threads I’ve seen closed are repeats about bots, or repeats about other garbage that they’re already aware of. There’s no need to keep them open to clog relevant information about other issues.
Legit complaints, who said that? do you like censorship? if not then you should be against this behavior.
You did, in your original post. Also, these are their forums. They’re allowed to do what they want, when they want to.
Legit complaints? 99% of everything I read is based on personal opinion and not any facts.
Jesus Christ, wth is wrong with a little criticism.
I think OP is truly trying to enhance the gaming experience (he even posted in the suggestions thread).
Ultimately, it would just equate to more content, and you guys are quick to call him a WoW fanboy, when really he just uses it as a reference, like all game devs have, to fortify this MMO.
A little criticism? He rags on the entire game, and then tells people who are enjoying it, aka “fanboys” in his opinion, not to get mad.
Lost me at that point. If he’s not enjoying it, the game isn’t for him, take a hike and leave the rest of us who are in peace, and stop trying to cause arguments on the forums with inflammatory comments right off the bat.
Yes. The game is dying. It’s over. Take your DVD and set it on fire. In two weeks, there will be ten people playing it.
eyeroll
They overrun it? I’ve completed 72% of the map and have never seen one.
This seems like a fair fix to me. And should reduce “grinding” quite a bit.
What an obvious troll.
No kid, I am in the Forums because there is nothing else to do in-game. Why are YOU on the Forums and not playing your perfect flawless epic MMO? hahahaha
Currently watching football, idiot. Because there’s no subscription, I don’t feel like I have to play 24/7.
When that stupid expansion comes out, all the tools that keep trolling will be gone, so frankly I can’t wait for 2 more days.
Man I can’t wait until these stupid WoW trolls leave the game and forums.
This game is not a gear treadmill..
..so this game is clearly not for you..
..so bye.
Posts like these are unnecessary and clogging the forums for no reason whatsoever.
Man, the WoW trolls are out in force lately.
That there are some negative things that need to be looked at, however, people are really taking for granted the mass list of positives.
Everyone should watch this.
Continue to enjoy your cactus humpage there, Battle.
Well, thank you for your subjective opinion on what is fun and what is not. I came from WoW and EQ2. I’m having a blast with the game.
Why do people think having the name Guild Wars 2 automatically makes it an sequal to Guild Wars 1? Everquest 2 was NOWHERE NEAR what Everquest 1 was.
Are you just a really bad troll?

Look out, he’s getting upset! I meant sequel in terms of you wanted the exact same game, but with better graphics – or what Dusk said after me.
Where have I ever said I wanted the exact same game?
Complaining about problems with the sequel means I wanted Guild Wars 1 with better graphics?
You’re just one non sequitur after another, boet.
And yet you make direct comparisons to all the reasons you dislike about GW2 and how much better it was in GW1 in your original post.
You put 200 hours into GW2 and yet you hate most of the game. Why would you dry hump a cactus for 200 hours?

Clearly a WoW troll. Just move along folks.
