Why didn't you buy HoT?

No disrespect, but I’m going to destroy your entire argument.

So, I found this thread again and thought I would answer this.
I will start with the fact that I used to play WoW so I was looking forward to GW2. I started GW2 at launch.

The main reason I have not and will not buy HoT is because of the way the game has gone/is going.

1: Anet originally set out to make an extraordinary MMO unlike any other, but has since gone in a different direction. I feel like with the Manifesto, they promised a lot and delivered little.

The “Manifesto” has been discussed ad nauseum. Every MMO evolves and changes over time. Every single one. I fail to see how they’ve gone in such a radical different direction.

2: Stagnant content. I really don’t think this needs to be explained. Look at dungeons and world events, once you’ve done them there is no reason to do them again (unless you play Fashion Wars). Anet had an answer for stagnant content, dynamic events, it didn’t work.

Dungeons and world events are stagnant? I see entire huge groups at every world boss still. And dungeons are still a fantastic way to make money. Not only with the loot, but every 8 unique dungeon paths you run, you get 5 gold and additional tokens. Have all the sets already? Spend your tokens on some exotic weapons and throw them in the forge. You may get some unique skins out there.

3: I recently made a pvp character, because I thought maybe I was just bored with pve. WvW seems dead, also it’s still the same it was years ago. Eotm, hop in the train and run around mindlessly. Yeah, that’s fun. As far as structured pvp, it’s not for me and from what I hear is ruined anyways.

Pvp isn’t ruined. The population is a little lower this time around because of how they changed the ascended rewards, which I don’t personally agree with. WvW isn’t dead either. I’m on a lower tier server, and every single battleground was queue’d on reset on Friday.

4: Raids. I would never be able to do a raid because I play my way. I have 6 fully geared lvl 80s, but none of them have meta builds and never will. I have no doubt that if I tried a raid, I would be kicked out. I have no desire to play the min/max game (I know GW2 players hate that word, but let’s call it what it is). I was at one time a top rated raider on WoW and came to GW2 to get away from that. Yay, meta builds.

So you have 6 fully geared level 80s, but can’t find yourself changing just one of them to try and fit into a raid. Sounds like stubbornness to me. There are many guilds that do raid training, or you could find a guild to join that does the same thing. Raids in this game aren’t like hardcore raiding in other games – you’re not forced to raid.

5: DPS meters, here we go. Anet originally said no to them, now we have them. How long will it be before Anet caves again and we get an inspect panel so that players can kitten at me for not playing their way?

Players will find a way to “kitten at you” no matter what Anet does. Currently it’s linking how many items you have for raids. Again, there are options out there to avoid the hardcore part of any of this.

6: Problems. There are a lot of problems with this game that Anet needs to address. I am only going to focus on one because it shows how Anet deals with problems. Underwater combat. This was something that was new and exciting, unfortunately players didn’t like the way it works. It needs to be reworked, because it is a great idea. Anet’s answer, let’s just abandon it. Get used to this answer, you will be hearing it more.

They’ve currently put underwater combat on hold because it’s a terribly minor portion of the game. You realize there’s an underwater elder dragon, right? They can’t ignore it forever and it will likely see a rework at some point.

7: Forced content. I’m not going into detail about this, because I already heard all the lame excuses about how nothing is forced. I will say this, if you look at SAB there is a normal mode achievement that requires you to do tribulation mode. How does that make sense. You force me to play a mode I don’t want to play in order to get an achievement for a mode that I do play.

How are they forcing you to do anything? Why do you need the achievement so badly?

8: The community. It didn’t used to be like this.

I see “Wow, this community is so great!” on reddit every day. Not sure what you’re reading.

Hello there and thank you for stopping by.

Hopefully you came here to read just what we’re about. I won’t bother you too much with the trivial details – but we have a max level guild hall, do just about everything (including the completely silly) and are hardcore about none of it (including things outside the game, such as Cards against Humanity night) focused on having fun and being more of a family than a guild by keeping our numbers fairly small. Currently just under 80. Which brings me to the story! Our name stems from our previous guild – Raiders of the Lost Guild [RAID]. We had that guild for two years. And it was very successful. You might have ran with us in many of the meta events we’ve led in various maps. We always kept our numbers small so we could get to know one another instead of being just a giant guild full of random strangers.

So what happened? We had a guild member who was in our guild for seven months that eventually got a hold of one of our senior members accounts, which led to said person booting all of us and making an attempt to sell our guild to other people. All of that work, effort and coin was gone in an instant. But what I think what I’m most proud of is the fact that none of us quit or gave up. We vowed to rebuild and stick with it and start fresh. As long as we were together, it didn’t matter.

Support did intervene and managed to get our guild hall back from the usurper and confiscate all of his accounts. Apparently said person had been doing this for a while to others. With all of our determination to keep going no matter what, we ended up rewarded in the end with our efforts restored.

But we wanted to leave that chapter behind us and still start anew, still wanting to give the honor to our old guild, but continue on – this time with the other guild hall as well. (Lost Precipice) We were once Raiders. Now we’re Legends. The tag is an inside joke that I hope you’re curious enough to discover. All in all, these are some of the best people I’ve ever come across and through them, is the reason why I’ve played Guild Wars 2 non-stop since release. I always encourage people to get involved, have fun, pick a spot in the guild hall to make your own and get to know people. Our guild rules are fairly simple. I ask a majority representation (80%+) due to the smaller size of the guild. Discord is our voice chat and is required for certain things. Lastly, don’t be a jerk to anyone. We should all be there for one another.

The only thing that remains then, is.. do you want to be a Legend?

Please contact me in game – Maksyn (Stark.1350) if you’d like to learn more.

[NA]Raiders of the Lost Guild is open!

Hello everyone!

What is [RAID] about? Well, it’s pretty simple – and it’s not about raiding all the time. Haha. Our motto is “Show up, speak up” – be a part of the guild, not just in it and be open to communication! We’re a small guild and would like to keep it that way. Currently only 73 members. Many of us have been playing together for a very long time. We value having fun and enjoying casual, lighthearted play over being hardcore.
We want members who choose to invest into the guild over investing into themselves. We have many, many generous people and the more generous you happen to be, the more you’ll find that kindness is paid forward. If you happen to be friendly, patient, kind, and a twisted sense of humor and wanting to have a “family” like atmosphere, this may just be the guild for you. We’re verrrrry picky about who we bring in.

As it stands, we run guild missions every Sunday, followed by a raid attempt. We do raids on Wednesday as well. And often times we’ll have various events sprinkled in between everything else, especially if a guild member requests to see something. As for raiding, we’re not hardcore about it, but certain things are expected of you, such as coming prepared with the right gear and build. And if you need help with any of these, please ask one of us! We have a guild Facebook page, guild forums page, level 65 guild hall, private pvp arena and a Discord server.

Our guild rules are as follows: 1.) Due to the size of the guild, I ask a majority representation (80%+). 2.) Our current voice chat is Discord and is required for raids, missions and other big events. 3.) Don’t be a jerk to anyone. This is a broad statement, but respect others, the rules, and contribute and you’ll find yourself involved with the rest of us in no time.

If you have any questions, I’m more than happy to field any – just hunt me down in game. While we prefer if you are on the Ehmry Bay server, that is no longer required. Open to all servers.

Hope to talk to you soon! Maksyn (Stark.1350)

Hey everyone! Thank you for taking the time to read this post. [RAID] on Ehmry Bay is recruiting. Enjoy snakes? Cave diving? Temple running? Indiana Jones? Have a whip fetish? We may be just for you. We picked the Gilded Hollow guild hall as it seemed to fit this theme the best.

We’re a small guild and plan to keep it that way. Our roster will not go beyond 60 people (however friends and family will always be welcome). We want people to know each other, be friendly with one another and never have a stranger in our guild. The more tight-knit we can be, the better!

We’re also going to be very picky in our recruiting. We only want the best, mature, relaxed and funny people that we can get. We want people to focus on putting the guild first. Come have a good time and leave drama at the door!

We touch every aspect of the game. From deep dungeon running, to PvP and WvW. We’d like to form pvp teams for the new pvp leagues. We plan to do raids! Our guild hall is level 41. And we do completely silly things, liked naked kite parades and running through WvW as jellyfish.

We have guild forums, a guild FB page, a mumble server and we have a variety of guild missions every week. Feel welcome to chat with me about our plans for the expansion! If you’d like to message me in game and chat with me about it, please do! My name is Maksyn and my account name is Stark.1350. We’d prefer people only on Ehmry Bay or those willing to transfer.

Ranger concerns

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Stark.1350

Stark.1350

I’m tired of the ranger complaints. I really am.

I’m very confident on my engineer. I win two thirds of the matches I play.

This has been my experience fighting rangers:

Most rangers I fight against: Pewpew with the longbow and never weapon swap. Ever. I just sit there and shake my head while I watch rangers kill themselves with rapid fire off my reflect wall. Obvious use of the wrong pet. Poor management of pets.

Some rangers I fight against: Weapon swap and often use greatsword or double axe, sometimes sword/warhorn. Clear knowledge of what pets to use in pvp. Lock down with pets or other immobilize and then attack from range. And when I go up against these guys, it’s a clear fight to the death and I’ve been absolutely destroyed at times by people who clearly know their class inside and out.

I can say this for every class really. There are those that understand their class and those that don’t. And while there are some classes that are a bit over on the power edge at the moment and allow for more sloppy play, the rest are pretty kitten equal.

i.e. this is a learn to play issue and nothing more.

30% of damage that may or may not hit regardless of blocks/evades IF the pet manages to path correctly to the target is not a L2P issue. Yes there are superb players that make it seem viable but even they are fighting you AND the mechanic. Do some more research, or maybe have your skill drop 30% of their damage more often than having that 30% of damage and then come back and tell us you’re happy with Engi.

When the Dev’s have agreed that there are glaring issue’s it’s pretty safe to say that this isn’t some imaginary concern related to L2P.

But ya what would the Ranger diehards and dev’s know, the Engi has told us otherwise so it must be true.

Agreeing with this. I’m no super pro player that knows the ins and outs of all classes, but the problem isn’t a pvp ranger like the posts above specify. It isn’t a l2p issue. What do we do with our pets in the raid that constantly die because they cannot jump or dodge, and then yes.. causes a 30% dps decrease? I pvp and pve as a main ranger. I find pvp a lot of fun and don’t feel like a “bad” class at all. But saying there are no issues with pve ranger, and that its all l2p, is just plain false.

I’ve beaten every dungeon path, and done every living story achievement, with a ranger in my party. We have level 50 fractal runners who are rangers.

Pets probably need some work. But you guys are focused way too much on how much DPS you do. Who cares?

so no druid next week?

No settings activate progression at all. Is this a bug or was progression on custom arenas permanently disabled?

There is absolutely nothing wrong with the ranger class.

I've owned GW2 for 3 years and I only pvp.

So you stood in a tiny map and played the same handful of maps for 3 years.

While we have a wider variety of maps by far, WvW, living story events, and can pvp if we so choose, and you’re asking US how we stand it.

What happened to the 'no grind' philosophy?

Are you all fine with grinding now? Because this event is absolutely atrocious.

Anets no grind philosophy always only applied to ‘no gear treadmill’. Everything past that is fair game to them

Which is funny because Ascended Gear is grindy.

Not when it drops in the open game as well and you change the stats on it. Ascended Gear is actually fairly easy to get.

And this event is hardly grindy. I already have 90 blooms and just jump in when I can. None of the items on the vendor are items that are required for you to progress.

So once again, “grind” is self-imposed due to want.

There anyway to tell the date of when a guild is created?

How is your server's WvW community?

I’ve been on Ehmry Bay since the start of the game. I have no plans to leave.

Currently we are rank #12, right in the middle of the pack and have had a number of guilds transfer to us recently.

I remember the days back with guilds like [pk], [Void], and others and how we were a very strong server to match up against. I also remember days when we were bottom of the barrel and it seemed like we were going to be stuck there for some time.

I remember the days when we went through a giant bought of drama when guilds left us to try out higher tiered servers.

But I also know those days are behind us. We have an incredible core of people who have also been on Ehmry Bay since the beginning. We have guilds that were once a part of us, returning. And we have new ones transferring because they’ve heard of the little drama and friendly atmosphere of the server. [TV], [PS], and [Rekz] to name a few.

I think the biggest selling point for this server, is frankly, loyalty. You just have some people that will never leave, good or bad, getting stomped or rolling.

Come give the Bay a try. www.ehmry.com
