Basically, a 5v4 from the start since Caed is always in the downstate.
That and your joke miss-types before the game cracked me up.
Dear Thieves,
I came here to say that your tears dropping into my beer make it more cold and delicious than any ice.
If you struggle because you can be actually hit outside of Blind/Evade/Stealth spam, maybe that’s the time to become a man, switch something instead going full zerk/full burst damage, take some hits and make our game more healthy and diverse.
With love,
Rym
Dear Deluded Person,
I came here to say that your premature gloating is highly unfounded, in fact, I cheerfully laugh off your Sic Em and your buffs and am certain we will continue to enthusiastically and systematically break you down into nothing but more tears and confusion as to why your buffs didn’t save you.
With love,
S/D thieves
Guild Wars 2 PVP
Where the /dance emote is actually a viable skill to use in the middle of battle.
Am about to make a dance macro just to fight this bug. Btw as a necro who uses Spectral Armor / Spectral Walk / And WOP, this bug trolls me to no end.
It’s even worse if you use Sigil of Generosity.
Yes, passives can proc the bug.
LOL really? OK this one I didn’t know. I always get it from shadowstep or infiltrator’s strike/return or from sometimes even cleansing an immob with a stun break.
LOL Vee Wee just 2v1d. Hook line and sinker. I wonder how many more gullible people are gonna fall for this.
This is just amazing. Save me a seat, I’ll make us some popcorn….
OK, whether you like his shoutcasting or not. Are you really ignoring just how much Blu has done for the GW2 PvP community and then have the nerve to say that sending Blu to Gamescon is rewarding mediocrity?
Friend, you just don’t know….
I don’t really care about keeping the PvP community alive. If the game deserved to be kept alive, someone would just take Blu’s place.
Er… wow… Why are you even in this part of the forum giving an opinion on something you don’t care about? Get outta here yous knucklehead!
But it would probably be better to let it sink entirely to either give the developers some impetus to get their act together or allow the developers to give up on a failed mode altogether. Either are better options than what we have today.
Lets see shall we, there’s barely any urgency to do anything in PvP as it is, if PvP died off like you want it to from the playerbase, there would be NO impetus to get anything together when that part of the playerbase will already be gone.
It’s kind of sad that you really don’t seem to realise just how much work Blu puts in of his own time for little to no reward and how much of a positive impact he has had on the pvp community and instead are blissfully ignorant in your own disdain for pvp.
Therefore the purpose of my post was to make two points. The first being that Thieves shouldn’t start bashing on Engineers as if this is something they asked for. The second being that complaining is silly at this point considering the changes for Thieves haven’t been announced yet.
I don’t think anyone has the idea that Engineers in particular were asking for it, more the point that Engineer didn’t really need it. That said, it’s on a really crappy utility, so you’d have to make quite a compromise just to fit in Analyze. If they end up dishing out a revealed skill to all classes, it’ll be interesting to see if those are also placed on the less desirable utlities as well and just how much they’ll actually be seen in use.
It will also be interesting to see how this will work with PU mesmers simply because Decoy doesn’t work under the same conditions as revealed, so they can still be revealed and decoy for stealth.
(edited by Static.9841)
You guys might as well get ready to complain more, because I guarantee you that by the end of all these changes Engineers and Rangers are not going to be the only ones with a “reveal” ability. Counter-play for stealth spam is being implemented. You Thieves are just going to have to learn to adapt and overcome.
I doubt they all will, they risk killing a class. It all depends as well on what we see as thief buffs.
I’m S/D and have been for quite some time, so I don’t really care, I barely use stealth anyway, but this could be a big problem for other builds/sets.
Seriously, first evade is the most powerfull defense in the game because IT HAS NO COUNTER. Any other passive or active defense in this game can be countered, also wasting cooldowns into evades is a big thing. Second the reveal buff will only hit WvW thieves hard. In sPvP you can aways shortbow away or hide around a corner till it wears off. Its a good thing that it hit WvW thieves because it hardcounters all those builds that endlessly reset with stealth. About blinds, their are many builds that get quite hard countered by blind spam. I bet their wont be a increase in perma-thieves because a-net most likley reworks or nerfs all those damage proc sigils like air and fire. I almost forgot the whole hardcounter problem, its not a problem most specs/classes have hardcounters. If one of those engies with googles runs into a condi necro he will run or bent over, its not balanced around 1v1. If you face an engi that nullifies your stealth call for help, its a team game.
tl,dr those reveal buffs only really hit WvW thieves
OK… once again for the cheap seats.
What does evade have to do with an instant-cast ability that is not telegraphed in any way because it’s instant? Sure, try and use your “most powerful defence” and hope that was the exact time of the insta-cast. If not, GG for blowing a dodge against nothing. So, lets pretend you’re a full glass thief with no acro, you now only have 1 dodge left to chance against the insta-cast (because obviously, you’re going to let yourself get hit by everything else right?) Please tell me the guaranteed to work every time counter vs any insta-cast. Oh, that’s right, there isn’t one.
You are assuming perfect conditions and/or a 1v1 where the theif can easily just waltz off like nothing happened. I don’t think you know or factor in how intense some fights can become. It also sounds like you think the thief will ‘first dodge’ at the start of the fight as if the enemy is going to use reveal as their opening gambit – smart players will wait until you’re in trouble, reveal you, then you’ve got nowhere to run with low health and if your opponent actualy pays attention, little to no initiative. GG.
By your own reasoning, a roaming thief in Wv3 can also SB away, use blink points to make it harder to catch, etc etc. What was your point exactly?
At no point did I say anything about perma-stealth thieves, I stated I would expect an increase in S/D thieves.
You are also assuming that everyone/anyone will be stupid enough to just spam the Analyze/Sic ‘Em button rather than actually watching your dodges and being ready for it. I don’t know what level of PvP you play at, but the games I play generally tend to have opponents smarter than spamming buttons hoping something will go off.
I’ve also been trapped into the scenery from a knockback. I think they are related.
I think this is more related to the same issue that can have you teleport/blink/shadowstep somewhere but push you into the scenery or even through the floor of the map.
I never had that bug in 2 years of playing gw2
Then you don’t PvP or Wv3 much. It happens constantly for myself and members of our pvp guild and has been a regular occurrence for as long as I can remember playing this game.
A shame. This community continues rewarding mediocrity too much, just because we can’t expect much better in a struggling game. It’s no coincidence Blu wasn’t involved in the best shoutcasting we’ve had yet — on Saturday and Sunday, in the otherwise terrible TOL qualifiers.
OK, whether you like his shoutcasting or not. Are you really ignoring just how much Blu has done for the GW2 PvP community and then have the nerve to say that sending Blu to Gamescon is rewarding mediocrity?
Friend, you just don’t know….
All classes get blind and evade, this isn’t a buff or a new addition. Other classes also have access to stealth.
Go to the gw2 wiki and count how many blinds or evades other classes have compared to the thief
Are you being wilfully dense or are you just trying to clutch at straws now because you just -have- to make some kind of comment despite having very little idea what the debate is even about.
The number of blinds and evades isn’t the question, some class builds have tons of vigor uptime, classes can trait for blinds, utilities, weapon skills, whatever. You are citing a standard debuff option that all classes have access to. An evade does nothing to your enemy except either put an attack on CD or just a whiffed auto attack that you’re not going to care about anyway. Blind stops your next attack from landing, hardly a problem unless you’re dumb enough to sit and chill in a blind field until it runs out.
S/D thief is the only thief that won’t have too much problem with this because they don’t rely on stealth as much as other builds.
Any thief not traited in acrobatics or signet of agility does not have all the dodge you are insisting they all have.
Now, a 6 second reveal on an instant cast from 2 classes now which will render an entire trait line useless for a minimum of 6 seconds and leaves a thief as a sitting duck depending on the situation. It’s hardly the same thing as an evade or blind is it. Please get educated before you respond next time.
If these forced reveal abilities are going to get used and seen commonplace, it’ll only encourage thieves to play s/d a lot more. Can’t wait to see all the qq posts about that considering people are already ignorantly crying about S/D.
(edited by Static.9841)
So, are thieves going to get new buffs that completely lock out the abilities and mechanics of other classes or is it just us that get shafted again because bad players can’t deal with stealth?
They already have that, its called evade, blind and stealth
Yes, bring up stealth in a discussion about an ability that causes revealed as a hard counter. If you’re going to make a mediocre comment with little to no relevance, at least pay attention to the subject matter.
All classes get blind and evade, this isn’t a buff or a new addition. Other classes also have access to stealth.
No other class has had any ‘nerf’ or counter added into the game that completely locks them out of an entire trait line or their class special mechanic. It’s a terrible attempt to band-aid stealth for the QQers who refuse to learn to play against the mechanic and has a huge impact on any thief not built as the current S/D meta.
So, are thieves going to get new buffs that completely lock out the abilities and mechanics of other classes or is it just us that get shafted again because bad players can’t deal with stealth?
S/D thief this won’t be a problem on if you’re using the current meta. Any other burst thief then it’s GG, 6 seconds is more than enough to kill a revealed thief.
In all fairness, goggles are terrible so I can’t see too many people using this.
(edited by Static.9841)
Josh, really, you guys are beating a dead horse here and it just feels like you’re just slapping as many band aids as possible in order to justify keeping a map that clearly Anet love but the majority of players really don’t. It’s just clutching at straws, you guys really should have known better when you designed the only map in the game that dictates how you create your build and the CC heavy style of play.
try to KB a good guardian from clocktower and tell me if you dont need to skillfully aim.
There’s a clocktower on Skyhammer? Wow, they really did make changes….
This is complete BS. A full existing team vs actual All Stars from different teams as it’s supposed to be. GG. This isn’t all stars, this is NA all stars Vs an EU Tol team. If Anet were going to send a full team to Gamescon you might as well have just sent the ToL winners from each region instead. What a joke.
I’m assuming the developers and marketing all pull from the same pot of money.
Different departments in a company usually have seperate allocated budgets.
My main problem with this S/D build is the damage it can put out when it has 0 points in critical strikes.
OK, I’m going to stop you right there.
How about how warriors and guardians can both set up a tank spec in traits, then use fire + air/intelligence sigils, strength runes and zerker ammy and still live through tons of damage (unlike the thief) and still put out good damage?
Because you spec for actual trait effects, and not for the +100-300 stats u get from investing into certain trait lines… Feline Grace, Sleight of Hand, those are kittened and need toning down, as well as air-fire combo, as pointed above.
Also, s/d thief DOES live through tons of damage, despite its role…
um… what? SO, are you telling me that warriors don’t specifically trait things like cleansing ire for the effects?
Slight of Hand is ‘kittened’ how exactly? You can’t handle a daze on a steal when a warrior can stun lock some classes to death? Hell a warrior can stun/daze longer than the venom elite!
S/D does not “live through tons of damage” it doesn’t live through damage at all, it lives by avoiding it. It’s well known meta S/D is a dodge tank, this alone seems to make people think it’s a win button or takes no skill. As was pointed out, the fire and air combo are not a thief-based problem.
(edited by Static.9841)
Blu, I like you and I mean no disrespect, but as a player, I don’t think you deserve to be on the All Star team when there are many great players that have put more into -playing- competitive games than you have and have achieved better success.
I look at this in a similar way as to how you viewed the first ToL you organised – you gave certain teams free entry because you felt they deserved it and were the top teams, conversely, you are not a top player in GW2 PvP and there are plenty of top players who deserve a place before you do. While you have obviously contributed a huge effort into GW2 PvP, you haven’t done so as a competitive player.
That said, I do think you deserved to have been sent there as a shoutcaster considering all the time and dedication you have put into keeping competitive GW2 tPvP alive and this is a massive oversight by Anet which has genuinely surprised me.

You guys are sad. Thief is fine and kicks butt if you know how to use it.
You mean as long as we can spam stealth or the third weaponskills?
You say that as if warrior attacks and rotations aren’t the most basic of flow-charts.
Let’s face it. Everything that you can’t kill is OP.
Hue hue hue
Or cheese, don’t forget, it’s very important
Other than that build, the game is actually in a good place.
Really? S/D thief build? Not many of the numerous broken builds that are around?
1. Sort of. If I didn’t enjoy aspects of PvP I wouldn’t keep doing it. Though I do think a lot of work needs to be put into the PvP side of the game. My interest in it certainly isn’t as enthusiastic as it used to be.
2. Yes, but sadly we’re not going to see that for some time what with the small team set aside to work on the pvp in the game.
3. Yes, more options can only be a good thing.
Please stay on topic, the point is stealth and finishers, not about thieves and their balancing or how to fight them. I know Im not the only one who thinks stealth is ridiculously overabused, why should we fight hard just to lose kills because a refuge can be dropped and we lose a chance to drop a finisher. If you can use a finisher in stealth, why shouldnt we be able to use a finisher on an enemy stealthed after the finisher has been activated
Why are people like you so blinkered and tunnel visioned? You do realise other classes have utilities where they can run up and insta raise your “hard earned kill” and then both smash your face in, at least with SR you get a chance to cleave the area and use CC’s in the SR spot.
All downed skills on any class are useless against a thief who is in stealth, and who can merrily waltz his way to you and finish you without any chance of you hitting him or preventing it.
If you think a thief can’t be hit in stealth, then this is an l2p issue.
Let’s even the playing field a bit and make downed thiefs unable to be stealthed by other players, and make none of their downed skills work, so players can waltz in and finish them. (q thiefs moaning about it, as they wouldn’t like their mechanic to work the same as others have it).
As others have it? What, you mean invulnerable stomping like mist form, diversion shatter or Elixir S? or stealth stomps from PU mesmers? or stability stomps? Sure, give thieves all that, sounds good.
(edited by Static.9841)
There are known spots for official duels, bumping into someone and fighting 1v1 isn’t something to be getting upset over in open field in the same way as someone interfering with an actual duel. If it’s red, it’s dead.
When you enter Wv3 you know you will be having engagements, if you enter thinking “Gosh I really hope I get lots of 1v1s in frequently travelled spots and nobody interferes”, you’re doing something very wrong.
(edited by Static.9841)
Never had a tied match, but I thought it came down to personal score for who won the match rather than both teams getting the win…
There are a lot of places you can get stuck on that map, sometimes trying to blink up to the higher walls on either side of the graveyard can also get you lodged inside of a wall. I’ve also gotten stuck in the ledge right next to the waterfall near the base side and fallen right through the map.
Some of these are the same people who will accuse thieves of HS spam when they aren’t even using dagger mainhand on either weapon set. They’re simply upset that they lost and just don’t understand what happened so it’s pyschologically easier for them to call spam than admit they lost due to their own failings.
S/D for sure, most fun set for me.
I think its because the ranger has never had its day in the sun. Most of the other classes have had periods when they were amazing to play, so much overpower. Each class has had its day bar the ranger. Even warriors had a time when they were utterly junk and no one used them. Now they are hideously overpowered. Thief used to be the rage, now its a bit rubbish, still great for roaming but the tricks are gone.
wasnt last summer spirit rangers heyday? where in pax tournament entire comps were built around neutralizing spirit ranger?
Pretty much this. But the OP is right, I’ve never seen so much QQing on any class as I have from rangers. A friend of mine even made one called Qew Qew Ranger and spends most PvP games moaning about how ranger doesn’t have X,Y and Z as a joke at these people. It gets funnier when ranger players start agreeing with him.
Spirit is totally braindead an option, there really is not much skill involved. Before the timers for spirits were changed even more so. I tried one a long time ago to see what it was like and it was just a win button, there was very little thinking involved and you could pretty much fall asleep playing it and still get results.

Called it….
It’s good this finisher doesn’t completely trivialize R80 even more…..
Filters will always impact queue times, which is very undesirable. We should avoid anything that increases queue times or effectively create more queues..
So, why not use a vote system after the queue has popped, the minute and a half you get before the match starts can be used as a time to vote for what map people want to play on in the same way as it works on games like CoD, this won’t increase any queue times or create any more queues. Problem solved.
What if you don’t care what map you play on in a vote system? Should there be a ‘pass’ or ‘vote random’?
What about the case where some people legitimately want to play on less popular maps? Would they ever get to play their favorite map?
This would be a system that provides good metrics.
Skyhammer does not have any more uneven matches than other maps last time we checked.
Where does this data come from? If it’s just from solo Q then why would it be any different it’s in the rotation. It’s blatantly obvious from anyone playing HJ that as soon as this map comes up, nearly everyone switches to a different lobby.
They used to be soulbound on use and were not able to be placed on the TP. Not sure why they ever changed this.
only 50% true.
they used to be soulbound on use
but before you soulbound it, you COULD sell it on the TP.now they are account-bound on use
and you can still sell it on the TP before you account-bind it.the only time you could not sell legendaries on the TP was when you couldn’t make legendaries when the game was first released (I think it was a bug… one of the gifts was unmakable at the time)
This is 100% untrue. When I first made Incinerator, no legendaries were able to be sold on the TP, it was implemented shortly after where people were able to sell them.
2222 HS thieves and 33333 PW spam thieves. Kids got to learn.
You also can’t just go afk because if you have 0 points scored, you get no points awarded at the end for contribution to the match.
so eventually itll go to the hands who has Precursors are in the exact situation. Multiple legendary holders ARE NOT people that play the game a lot or even play well for that matter. They’re held by people who are good with spreadsheets or (and most importantly) trade gems for gold.
That’s just a sweeping generalisation.
I have 3 Legendaries. I did not get them from playing the TP or from buying any gems. Incinerator I was able to make after the first ever Karka event when a lot of people got precursors from the Queen (I myself didn’t get one) and the market got flooded and tanked, Spark cost me 130g on a buy order.
Quip took me a while to get because at first I didn’t want it, but I liked the Chaos Gun skin, funnily enough, at the time Ilya and Lyss were 3 times the price of Chaos Gun which I picked up for 50g.
Bolt I made two weeks ago from playing around with the forge and was lucky enough to get 2 Zaps and 2 Lovers over the course of a few weeks at a total cost of around 200g in exos.
As for not playing a lot, I’ve been playing since beta. I’m also R80 PvP and was in the 60s before the April patch that gave everyone a dragon.
So… about what you said…
congratulations! you’re an exception.
I don’t agree, my friend is currently making his 3rd legendary in as many weeks because like me, he got very lucky with the forge this last month with 8 precursors. He has also been playing for the same amount of time as is also an R80 in PvP.
You are making sweeping generalisations because people have what you don’t and want to think that these people are low skill, hardly play, must play with spreadsheets, must buy gems, any stupid excuse just to make yourself feel better ranting away because people have something you don’t.
so eventually itll go to the hands who has Precursors are in the exact situation. Multiple legendary holders ARE NOT people that play the game a lot or even play well for that matter. They’re held by people who are good with spreadsheets or (and most importantly) trade gems for gold.

So… about what you said…
(edited by Static.9841)
The players have spoken. It’s a terrible idea.
Scrap it.
I died laughing when you said “Because I believe in the format we’ve set up which isn’t detailed here.”
It isn’t “detailed here” for one simple reason.
You don’t have anything.
If you actually had it all worked out, you’d explain it in full detail here.
Since you have nothing, I’m starting to get the impression this is a scam. You’re trying to scam players out of money for some fake tournament.
I hope ANet looks into this scam attempt.
Good luck.
Aside from the blatant scam attempt in this thread, so much this:
The simple answer: I’m not going to pay money so that some guy can run a skill-less troll 1v1 build and get $500, if the tournament was 2v2 or 3v3, things might be different.
You’re right I don’t have everything detailed. Which is why I made this thread to get people’s opinions on whether they’d be okay with paying an entry fee to expand the prizes.
You’re acting like I linked a paypal page for you to pay your money right now.
People are being sceptical because you’re not giving detailed information, just vague lines.
Note that a stealth spam thief can prolong most matchups forever. That could be a problem depending on how you handle such situations. Do you call it a draw for example?
You might want to test your format in a more casual setting first and get some publicity that way. People are more likely to join if they know that the format is solid. The match only last for 10 minutes. And we have a back-up plan for when a match ends in a draw.
You’re at the point where you sound just like A-Net about Skyhammer. People are telling you no, and you keep trying to force a yes. Not many people would pay for a 1 v 1 tournament. There are too many broken builds to play it competitively.
No. All I’ve been doing is explaining the tournament. Your saying no doesn’t change whether this tournament is going to happen or not. It just changes whether or not you’ll pay an entry fee for it.
Why the commitment to 1 v 1 when there are so many broken builds?
Because I believe in the format we’ve set-up which isn’t entirely detailed here.
Why isn’t it detailed?
You also mentioned you had a backup plan for a draw situation but won’t expand on that either. None of this will change my opinion on the tournament, but hiding information and making vague comments about it isn’t going to help.
She was already heavily nerfed for this year. What was a challenge is now more of a slight learning curve.
I don’t think so much that she was ‘nerfed’, more that the 2 main annoying parts of it were dealt with this time around – the roof taken off the domes and the clearly visible AoE circles.
I’m happy to have done it last year, feels like hard mode!
If you have having trouble I would suggest dodge food. It gives you might on dodge and a 40% endurance regen. It is a huge help for getting out of the way. orrian something or other.
Orrian Truffle and Meat Stew. Prices of this went up so high last year just from this fight!
DO you need to complete the meta achievement to gain a reward?
Just wanna drop this here.
Seems like buying a precursor is starting to get meaningless. Better sell your mats and buy the finished legendary, huh..Do you realise this sudden spike is due to the new changes to Eternity? People are taking advantage of this.
People were “taking advantage” when the legendaries got updated few months ago but I don’t see any precursor prices going down since then.
I bought Storm shortly before the update for 280g. Now it’s 650g. your argument is invalid.
Considering I stated the reason for the spike, I don’t think it’s invalid….
1) Anet is already considering how people feel about skyhammer
No they aren’t. People have been complaining about Skyhammer for a very long time. Nobody complained about Capricorn (or at least in any volume) and look at what map got removed from the game entirely.
Skyhammer is a map that clearly favours certain classes and specs simply by its design, whether that was their intention or not.
- No bunker amulets; Soldier, Settler’s, Cleric, Magi
- No exploits.
- No Strenght Runes.
So what about the zerker hambow builds? What about any of the other specs that could be defined as ridiculous that don’t utilise any of those amulets?
I think it’s pretty silly to have a tournament that you want to call “ultimate profession” and then arbitrarily ban amulets and one set of runes. I’m also not a fan of blanket bans like this, not because I play using any of the those amulets, but because I just don’t see the reason for it.
No exploits would obviously be a good thing.
Would I pay money for this? No, not with your current set of rules.
Sigh, the “prestige” argument again. “Forget them, I got mine!”
Your right.
We should dull all content down, make it so that everyone gets everything they want and completely shaft the veteran players at every opportunity.
Please tell me what was difficult about the Southsun event to get the 2 backpieces, or the Flame and Frost event to get the Fused Gauntlets etc
I personally think it’s great that newer players have a chance to fill up their wardrobes with older skins so they can create as many cool and unique gear combinations as possible. I actually find it a bit strange that someone would want anything other than that.
Some people want to be unique and special snowflakes despite the fact that thousands of people already have the same items from LS that they do…..
If you have to trip cap for 8 seconds, the sudden death will not be so sudden in a lot of cases and the game could actually take a very long time to finish…
What do you class as “unfair stuff”? Because that could be quite subjecive.
