Thanks for the love and appreciation guys. It’s easy to forget the long path we’ve walked with you since before launch but we’re happy to hear these words. The Guild Wars 2 community has grown over the years but it’s been a great pleasure working with such quality fans. We appreciate the time fans take to communicate on the forums, so a big thank you!
Hi Maxwell,
The big issue for us to add Season 1 to the Story Journal is that Season 1 was not built the same way that Season 2 was. I can’t really share details but this means that we can’t simply retrofit the story steps into the Story Journal and we’re going to need to rework Season 1 into a format that fits the Story Journal. As we’ve said, we really want all players to be able to experience as much of the Living World as possible at one point, but I don’t have more details to give you, including a possible timeline.
Thanks for sharing your perspective!
We’ve seen a lot of players asking what to do with their duplicate miniatures and some trying to find creative use of their mini friends, in light of the Wardrobe/Collection announcement. We’ll keep exploring options and ways that these extra minis can be used in the future. No promise that anything comes out of it, but we’d rather you know that it’s a possibility!
Thanks for your feedback. Note that putting other players in categories (and ones that could be offensive) does not help get your message through. While players tend to group around topics, it’s what they say that matters.
A lot of players have expressed positive feedback in threads about particular feature announcements. Other threads and posts are more critical of features or aspects of the game, and it’s exactly why we have forums. A lot of developers read posts every day and we often relay some of the high-level feedback to developers.
We respect all opinions as long as they are expressed respectfully and this is a condition for having healthy discussions on the forums.
But will my dolyak finishers be unlimited now? or are they still 250 uses??
This will not change with the Collection system. They’ll still be limited by how many use you have left.
ArenaNet uses the terms interchangeably but what they imply are certainly different and yet neither hold true to what we are given (at least, in my view).
When we started communicating about this (more than a year ago), the term “Living Story” floated around but we decided to call this the “Living World” for reasons we’ve explained. In season 1, players discovered (among a lot of other things) Southsun Cove, the Zephyr Sanctum and the Tower of Nightmares appeared and was then destroyed. So was Lion’s Arch. You can still see some remnants of Scarlet’s influence here and there with Energy Probes for example. In Season 2, released updates included more than new story steps. They included new zones and changes to existing ones. And obviously new threats changing the dynamic of the world of Tyria. That’s the idea behind Living World.
The Feature Pack announcements will continue next week and some of them will definitely contain information that’s relevant to those of you who’ve been playing the game for long. We won’t tell you about them until the articles are live though, to keep the element of surprise!
Happy cake day enjoy your cupcakes from the community. ArenaNet.
We may be under the effect of a Sugar Rush today. Thanks a lot for those delicacies!
Yes it does. I’ll point to the answer posted here and will take this opportunity to remind you to post in relevant threads, rather than create a new one. It’s a bit more difficult, including for players, to navigate through a sea of threads, some of which as asking the same questions. Thanks for your understanding!
Happy cake day to the Guild Wars 2 community!
Do the new changes mean I can’t do WvW until I level to 18? What’s with all these restrictions?
That’s not exactly what’s happening. If you have a brand new account, you will only be able to use the PvP and WvW icons after your first character has unlocked them for your account. After that, it’ll pretty much be the same!
Again, this change will be mostly relevant to new players who will not have to think about that part of the game until they’ve been able to learn the basics. If they’re specifically interested in those part of the game, they can still travel to the relevant portal and jump into the fray!
Does this mean that it will affect level 80s?
Yes it will but the change will not be easily noticeable.
Follow up question: What use is it to make a blog post that only really affects people who don’t yet play the game?
Hi Puddles,
First of all, we at ArenaNet very much appreciate the support that all players that have played the game for so long have given us. Without you guys, your love of the game and how you spread the word around you, things would clearly not be the same.
Today’s blogpost about the New Player Experience will not have as many visible effects to you specifically as it would have for a brand new player, that knows very little about the game. The new direction system should help you get a clearer and more useful top-tight UI, but also give your new characters better rewards.
As you noted, it is mainly targeted at new players, those that need it the most. We want their learning experience to be better so that they, too, can become veteran players of Guild Wars 2 one day! Learning to play a brand new game, and MMOs tend to be more on the more complex side of videogames, can be a daunting and hard task.
We want more people to be able to walk this path you walked and this is why we implemented the New Player Experience system, to create a route that new players can walk and feel rewarded along the way.
Again, thanks for your support!
ArenaNet, can you please answer this:
I currently have some alts which are not level 80. Will these changes affect my alts too, or do I need to remake them to get the changes (just like the Trait change)? I’d rather have my alts be grandfathered into these changes than having to remake them.
Yes these changes will be effective for all existing characters.
I keep reading this part does this mean traits will be unlocked when you level now or do we still have to do the chores.
Regarding unlocking traits, the New Player Experience will effectively be exactly the same, except in the way it’s presented to players.
Hi everyone,
The article about profession system only presented the idea behind this system and we generally don’t give precise details about these systems unless these details are needed to understand the idea. In this case we can’t share details but we want to reassure players that they’re not going to see changes in loot so visible that some components are going to “rain” or they’ll stop seeing loot variety. It’s more complex than that.
The adjustments to the loot system are fairly subtle and the goals are that, after a certain time, your characters will effectively have more components you can use. So it may take some time for you to see a difference, or not, but it’s not going to feel like a very visible change each time you loot a mob. We want players, in particular new ones or those creating alts, to more often be able to use the items they loot directly or get something that is relevant to their profession. It does not mean that you’ll get less varied loot overall. We’ll keep monitoring the changes to kitten its affects.
Thanks for your early feedback!
Please just keep it light and fun like it has been with Kate and not the bro-fest that the ready-ups have been in the past.
Points of Interest and Ready Up are two completely different shows, created for different objectives. They are not intended for the same audience, although players can enjoy both if they play all aspects of our game. While Points of Interest discusses Living World episodes and showcases Fan-Generated Content, Ready Up focuses on competitive information, events and updates for WvW and PvP. The tones are different because players expect different things from each show.
I hope this clears things up
I’m closing this thread so that everyone can focus on the existing threads, rather than everyone seeing a lot of threads discussing similar topics. Thanks for your understanding!
I just want to reassure everyone that Points of Interest will not stop. This is something that the community likes and creates great opportunities for us (including highlighting some of the creations of the community submitted to guildwars2.tumblr.com), so we want to continue to do it and as Regina said improve it based on the players’ feedback. Let us know here or on twitter via the #GW2PoI hashtag!
Hi thready,
First of all, welcome to Guild Wars 2! I’m moving your thread to the “Players helping Players” subforum that is the best place for you to find help (although players have been nice to point you in the right direction ).
We also have an official wiki where you can find tons of information : http://wiki.guildwars2.com/
Have fun playing Guild Wars 2!
Thanks everyone for your patience with this matter. We’d like to clarify the situation of the new Seed items.
After Tuesday’s release, if your Cultivated Seed was changed into a Pet Seed, you can talk to the centaur Azarr Softhoof in the Upland Oasis (Dry Top) to exchange it back to the Cultivated Seed you previously created. This will then allow you to continue the process of crafting the Mysterious Vine back item, which can then in turn be evolved into a Cultivated Vine and then finally the Mawdrey (ascended) back item. If however you started evolving the Pet Seed into an exotic Pet Seedling, know that you won’t be able to go back to the previous crafting process as you’ve already started crafting Mawdrey. As you won’t be able to craft the Cultivated Vine during this process, we’ll work on a way to unlock that specific skin for you in a future update.
There are important differences between these two processes as they lead to different back items (Mysterious Vine or Mawdrey), and the only way to go from one to the other is if you obtained the Mysterious Vine an then evolve it into Mawdrey. We will not issue refunds for any of the items involved in these crafting processes. Note that you can still obtain a Mysterious Seed by completing The Dragon’s Reach: Part 1 story via the Story Journal on any of your characters, since this item is account bound.
Thanks everyone for sharing links to WvW videos with us. I’m locking this thread now as the submissions are now over! Have fun in the mists
Hey guys,
Steve Blum is still doing the voice of Rytlock in Guild Wars 2, including our trailers. Audio treatments are applied to his voice and it may sound different sometimes, but it’s still him. Just wanted to clarify that
We were able to reproduce the bug and find a fix for it, so we’ll be pushing it with the next release (The Dragon’s Reach: part 1, on July 29).
Bug Fixes:
- Fixed an issue with the Living World Story Journal.
Hi everyone,
I’d like to bring a bit more clarity on this topic. Subtitling videos is something we usually do on videos such as teaser trailers or videos presenting game features (e.g., the Wardrobe) as they tend to reach a much broader audience. Furthermore, livestream videos tend to be more “familiar” in terms of what is said, the pace, colloquialisms, etc. and this would make subtitling a much harder task.
Although YouTube now offers better tools to subtitle videos (e.g., being to create them while transcribing), it is still a very time-consuming task to perform on a weekly basis and we currently do not have the bandwidth to do this. YouTube recently introduced to a limited number of channels the ability to let the audience create subtitles and we’ll be keeping an eye on this feature to see if we can introduce it.
Hi there,
This was due to a mistake after cleaning up the backend of our YouTube channel. Thanks for your report!
Hi everyone,
Here’s an update on the issue: in order to fix a Trading Post issue we have temporarily hidden players’ order history. Current buy and sell orders are still present, and will be acted upon normally. All completed orders have correctly sent the coins and items to players. However, orders on the Trading Post that were already completed may not show up for a few days while we resolve this issue. Newly completed orders will appear up when they complete.
We’re sorry about the inconvenience.
Hi everyone,
I’ve merged multiple threads about daily achievements not being available and dungeon/fractal/WvW/World Boss chests not spawning. We’re aware a bug of the Achievement system that is the root cause of these issues. We don’t know when exactly it’ll be fixed but are working on a fix.
Thanks for your understanding!

As a follow-up to Scott and Angel’s posts, you can read the letter that Christina sent us here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/arenanet/13108558023/
Thanks a lot Christina!
Thanks Christina for your lovely post. We shared it with the community at large on our social medias.
Hey! This is amazing that you shared your story. I contacted you ingame because the Guild Wars 1 and 2 community do a charity fundraiser every April ingame for Multiple Sclerosis! We are hosting it on the 19th this year…but haven’t posted the final details yet. My mom has MS…and I totally understand people not understanding. I am a huge avocate and an ambassador for the MS Society in Canada. I hope that we can get in touch so you can see what this amazing community does for MS and helping to spread awareness Thanks soooo much for sharing your story! <3
Hi Yailith, it looks like you’ve already used the In-game Events subforum for a past event but we’d like to encourage you to do it again for this event. If you could also send us an email at community@arena.net with the details of the event, we’ll see if we can help promote it! Thanks for your work on organizing such a great event.
Bug Fixes:
- An additional rock has been added to the Swashbuckler’s Cove jumping puzzle in Gendarran Fields.
- Fixed a graphic error on mesmer phantasms when wearing Zodiac armor.
- Fixed a bug that caused the Mini Cobalt Great Jungle Wurm item to drop from the Ultimate Citizen’s Rescue Bag.
- Adjusted reward tiers to award at 100, 300, 600, 900, and 1200 citizens rescued.
- Fixed a bug that prevented the following achievements from being awarded in certain situations: Triple Play, Trader’s Forum Triumphant, Postern Ward Protector, and Fort Marriner Fighter.
- Fixed an issue where achievement tracking in Lion’s Arch was not resetting properly.

Hi there,
Thanks for the report. We’re aware of the issues and are actively working on restoring services. We’ll post updates on the Guild Wars 2 twitter which you can view here : https://twitter.com/guildwars2
Hi everyone,
During the last few weeks, there have been a lot of discussions about YouTube and the hot topic lately has been policies about posting to YouTube video content that contains videogame assets. This situation is continuing to develop and we’ll be monitoring YouTube changes, but we’d like to provide some clarification on the matter of our policies.
To use assets (e.g., screenshots, footage) from our games, any content creator needs to comply with the Guild Wars 2 Terms of Use that are detailed here: https://www.guildwars2.com/en/legal/guild-wars-2-content-terms-of-use/. These rules are pretty explicit and haven’t changed since we put them together. They define what content ArenaNet considers out of line. Content creators are not permitted to use our assets to create a commercial product and use of our assets for non-commercial purposes is permitted. Monetizing a fan-created Guild Wars 2 video on YouTube via its partner program is generally not against these Content Terms of Use, just as serving advertising (Google Ads, for instance) on a fansite is not against the Content Terms of Use.
We actually support people sharing their experiences with our game, such as Let’s Play, guides, reviews, or other types of fan videos on YouTube. We generally do not take any action against YouTube videos using our game assets. We will investigate what’s happening with the PlayNC claims. You can contact us at community@arena.net if you have further questions. We’re also going to start reviewing our policies to make sure they’re clear on where we stand regarding content creation. Keep in mind that this will take quite some time since it involves legal reviews.
Thanks a lot for supporting the Guild Wars 2 community by creating awesome content to show your experiences with the game!
Hey Markus,
I’ll reply to the post you created on the French forums, and also lock this thread. This kind of discussion is not appropriate on the English forums (people would not understand for example what role JoL plays in the French community or what kind of interactions we have with the French community). We encourage players to provide feedback but also want everyone to use the right place to discuss each issue, thank you for your understanding!
Thanks.
Hi Erick,
The wiki is a collaborative site that we host but the Guild Wars 2 community updates. You can learn about this on this page from the wiki:
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Guild_Wars_2_Wiki:How_to_help
It’s very easy to update the page by yourself. If you do it without an account, your IP address will be logged as your “account name”, but I’d advise creating an account, it takes less than a minute to do so. If you don’t do it, I’m sure one of the editors could update the page but (as lordkrall mentions) it’s unlikely that they will do it, at least without a solid quote and phrasing this update without ambiguity. The articles of the wiki always try to emphasize accuracy and the need to provide source/evidence for information.
It’s actually one of the cool and often overlooked part of the wikis, where players get to discuss updating articles. They usually follow some basic rules (called “policies” and players get to decide them in the first place, you can read more about that here) and sometimes get to create new ones whenever appropriate.
There’s a big community of wiki editors that’s super friendly and helpful. Some editors even get to become “administrators” (sysops and bureaucrats) to help manage the wiki itself. Contrarily to popular belief, the wiki relies on a fairly big group of players, most of them doing small and occasional updates to various articles. The wiki is the sum of these numerous small updates with a fewer number of editors doing more frequent and in-depth updates.
Hope this helps!
Hi everyone,
I’d like to use the last few off-topic posts to remind everyone about the posting rules for the API Development subforum
This subforum is specifically for API application developers, not for users of these applications. By only allowing technical discussions on this subforum between developers of GW2 API-based applications and our API developers at ArenaNet , we’re helping the API effort to focus on building awesome applications for the Guild Wars 2 community.
Users of GW2 API-based applications should use the “Players helping Players” subforum for any question. Threads about specific GW2 API-based applications can be created in the “Fan-generated Content” subforum. As usual, please be as constructive as possible and follow the forums’ Code of Conduct
Thanks for your understanding!

Hi DragonHeart,
You can find some in this wiki article :
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/API:List_of_wrappers
(this is indicated in one of the forum sticky threads)
Other developers may want to chime in though, to talk about their personal experiences.
Have fun programming
WvW is back online and the matchups started again. Thanks for your patience.
Hi everyone,
We’ll be deploying a new build that fixes a few bugs and issues, including those that required us to suspend the WvW matches. The build will be live at around 7 PM Pacific Time (4 AM CEST). WvW matches will not be reactivated when the build is live, as we’ll be performing further work to ensure that the WvW fix is holding. We’re expecting this work to last about one hour but it may take longer. Once this work is completed, the WvW matchups that started last Friday will continue with the correct score. All objectives will be reset to their starting state and all siege weapons that were deployed will be gone.
Thank you for your continued patience.

Hi,
We identified the issue and fixed it, players should now be able to register for the Free Trial weekend again.
Thanks for reporting this to us and let us know if your friends see any other issue.
Hi everyone,
Please note that from now on, we’re suggesting that you report all errors and bugs related to the API in this stickied thread:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/community/api/API-errors-bugs/
Thank you.
