Mog you only get those badges of honor if they die and your zerg doesnt get wiped out by their zerg so there is some skill involved. Also if your entire zerg has no skill and their zerg has skill guess what your not going to get any Badges of Honor cause you will be dead 99% of the time.

If I had 500g I would not buy on TP and support those resellers just amazing Anet allow people to abuse market like this with out banning them, even in the stock market there are law´s against stuff like this monopoly ….

Small grocery stores do the same. They go to walmart buy the items and resell the items at double the cost. Its not illegal in the real world so why would they ban people for it?

edit: also to your comment about stock market it depends on which country your in. USA has a law against monoploys but not all countries

walmart and costco provide goods to the handful of independent grocery stores still in operation, however these independents don’t buy at retail – they get discounts and pay no sales tax.

I work at Walmart and they pay full price and get no discounts. Also they pay for all taxs including GST. They may not in USA but they sure hell do in Canada pay for it at the same cost as everyone else.

ummm not true there Mog to get the 500 badges of Honor takes a lot of skill cause they drop a lot more from killing players then any other way. So you could take forever at it with no skill or less time with a lot of skill.

They already randomly drop from monsters (the precursors). Its extremely low drop rate but its there.

Are there any screenshots or dev statements to that effect? Rumors have real staying power in MMORPGs, but that doesn’t make them any more than rumors.

No but do you have any screenshots or dev statements to say that they are not? I have rumors that they do drop from monsters but you have nothing to support that they dont. Apparently rumors and speculation state that they come from
1. Random world drop and from Temple events in Orr as well as Claw of Jormag.
2. (Post-patch) players reported only getting precursors from 80+ rares and 71+ Exotics.
number 2 is talking about mystic forge while number 1 is talking about drops.

Here we go i think i have a plan that would make everyone happy and removes the RNG from it but would create a huge grind fest and bots would win it. To get a precursor weapon you have to max (literally max) the number of kills for that weapon type and then have max kills for a specific monster type (such as centaurs). Such as to get the Dusk precursor you have to Max kill Shadow Shelks and get max kills with Great Sword. And to get Dawn you need to max kill Hylek along with max with Weapon. There we have a extremely hard to get system that would make you legendary.

That’s an interesting idea, but I would just make that an Achievement. As you say, the grindy nature of it would make it exploitable by bots and… well, grindy for everyone else. Grind flies in the face of Arenanet’s stated design philosophy (yeah, yeah, I know).

Anet is not against grinding if you look at dungeon reward design and other extra stuff they are just against grinding and lvling. And it is an achievement award pretty much but becomes more a true precursor to a legendary would actually mean something over what people been calling luck. Hmmm looking at the achievements I say they should link it to Community as well (something bots can’t do) Make it a true legend by forcing people who want the Legendary to actually be part of the game. Such as making it so that Precursors only appear after you reach tier 3 on Active Guild Member Achievement, Teamwork gets it done, No one left Behind (mind you they could adjust teamwork gets it done amount) So now bots cant exploit it unless they are massively advanced bots.

Edit: also forces people to work with their Guild (hence Guild Wars)

I am slowly working my way to them and am not in any rush to get them. Like why rush? there is so much to do and i been sick so i havnt been able to play much. I am also taking my time and learning all professions (i got more character slots just for it). WvWvW is actually pretty fun if you give it a chance and be smart about it. Sure most people zerg but i dont usually and i run around taking back supply camps and help with little tasks such as defending and ect which is not a zerg fest. Patience is what people lack so far in this game. They want everything immediately and dont want to work towards it or wait. The precursor weapons also drop from monsters and appear in chests. I will find them in my own time and if i really want to i could gamble but its like the old GW1 boss weapons which had only a small chance of dropping and only had a nice skin. You would run the dungeon over and over just to get that 1 weapon out of the chest or kill that single boss over and over till it dropped. This is the exact same thing expect its not just 1 single boss.

I never really thought much of them, and so never really wanted one. If I did, I don’t think I’d ever be able to get one. There’s too much money tied to it, and I’m not a Guild Wars stock broker like some people. I try to play normally, and there’s no possible way I’d make that much money over time without actively refusing to use any of the money I make. Even then it’d take one or two years. And certainly, there’s no way to currently get one without obscene amounts of money or exploits, since the mystic forge apparently is run by the mafia.

Consequently, I have a low opinion of legendary users. I don’t see them as prestigious, but rather, as people who have cheated their way to them, or who make a living in-game off manipulating the economy. These are not legendary players. They’re just the game equivalent of the 0.5% in real life.

You never tie prestige weapons to money, in any game. Ever. Else, you get situations like this.

But no, to answer the question directly, I don’t think legendaries are realistic for any player unless they are manipulating the trading post in some way, as a career in-game. Obviously the system they have now is broken. It was a bad idea to begin with, and reeks of standard MMO conventions that ANet promised they were trying to avoid. It wasn’t in GW1 – not this bad by a longshot – but it’s in the sequel. That tells me they’re trying to cater to the worst portion of the genre’s fanbase, because they feel they have to.

The people who got them legitimately and posted them on reddit had the help of others. That’s the only way “legit” players have obtained them as of right now. I’m not aware of any one legit player getting it 100% on their own.

I know a few people who have legendary and got it 100% on their own.

The whole attitude that “only a small portion of player base deserves to have them” bugs the ever living kitten out of me.

The entire purpose of the pve end game is decking your character out in amazing looking gear. If not then why is the reward for dungeons good looking gear? Why are their achievements tied directly to this? Why are there medals tied directly to that on the character select screen?

And then short sighted people who say “well 300g is fine price, if you can’t afford it go after something else blah blah blah”. They are 300g right now. Not even 2 months after the games release and a very very very gracious 1% of the game population can even come close to that amount. What happens in 6 months when not as many people are playing? When not as many people are buying on the market, when the supply is even less and the demand remains relatively constant? The prices go up up and up.

The simple fact of the matters it that if you play regularly you will never make enough money to compensate for those costs.

There are so many fun ways they could make to get the precursor weapons I just can’t believe people are so stuck on the idea of getting them through RNG or grinding hundreds of hours for gold to buy one on the market. That is as far from legendary as you can get.

You are aware they do drop from monsters as well which is another form of RNG but you dont have to risk constantly in the mystic forge. Good things come to those who wait. Learn some patience dude and dont feel like you should be entitled to a legendary weapon.

its called legendaries for a good reason.

So in your mind spending hundreds of gold and/or relying on RNG is legendary?

Personally I call that tedious and boring.

well most games relies on random numbers generator so all of them must be tedious and boring to you.

why do you play games then?

I can think of quite a few ways they could put in the game to make it so these weapons are still hard to get but make the process a hell of a lot more fun than it is now.

RNG is a lazy game mechanic put in place when the game devs either don’t care or don’t have enough time to make something better.

And to answers your question, besides GW2 I mostly only play FPS games. Battlefield 3, CS:GO, etc. No rng in those games.

There are RNG in those games. Ever used a machine gun and wonder why all the bullets dont go in a straight line? Its cause of a RNG is adjusting where the bullet is going even if by a little bit.

It’s still predictable and consistent and you have a direct control over it. That’s in no way RNG. Specifically, the guns in Battlefield 3 all behave in certain ways. Once you learn how to control them it’s a non-issue.

And none of that has to do with RNG in GW2, so nice try, I guess.

There is no direct control! Can you predict that your last bullet in your clip go up down left right or straight? No then there is a massive RNG that could determine a kill or be killed cause machine guns take forever to reload. All the guns behave in certain ways based on the greater range on the RNG. Sniper rifles have the least range on the RNG where as full machine guns have a huge RNG. Also the range on the RNG is effected by your movement. The game takes it all into account then throws it all into a RNG then from there adds that value to your bullet. I could easily find this code and show you the RNG. only games i know that dont use RNG are old classic arcade games.

edit: Also there is a ton of RNGs in GW2 and MMO’s from loot drops to mystic forge. I have no problem with the RNGs in this game for pre-cursor weapons. I want all legendary weapons but i am also willing to wait and be patient for them. Any way i can think of to fix this helps out botters out more then hinders them. By throwing a RNG it significantly lowers botters chances and money value (not that i seen to many botters in all my game time). Plus the precursors have a chance to drop from monsters much the same as in GW1 where you had to kill a single monster over and over just to get its special skin weapon or redo the same dungeon over and over just to have a chance to get that unique skin. They just made a 2nd RNG with the mystic forge so now you have 2 routes to get that weapon rather then just 1. I lost track how long i played a single dungeon in ETON just to get the frog staff (i never did get it mind you cause GW2 came out before i could). So now i got 2 ways to get the weapon i want rather then just 1.

You’re really trying to argue this point? Skill actually plays a part in FPS games. Once you learn to control the recoil (the rng as you call it) it becomes muscle memory and that’s all there is to it. It’s not even comparable and I’m not sure why you are trying to do so.

You absolutely 100% cannot control the RNG in an mmo. You’re either lucky or you aren’t. And yes, you are right, there are certain aspects of rng in GW2. But as far as the precursor weapon goes there doesn’t have to be.

Recoil is calculated into the RNG dude shoot a machine gun at a wall 1 bullet at a time pulling trigger once every 2 secs i bet you the bullet wont hit the same spot. Thats cause of the RNG not recoil or movement or anything just RNG. Your arguement still fails badly. And i believe there should be RNG for precursors or else everyone would have one cause there is no other method that forces people to play for months or years on end to find the precursor. Also to find legendary stuff in real life took people years what makes you think Anet should just make it so simple for everyone to get? Right now bots have to waste so much to get it that it still makes them rare.

Take it into real life contrast: which would you rather have? A sword or a gun?
I bet you more people will go for a gun cause its easy to use (point and shoot) then it is to use a sword. Your also out of range from someone who has a sword. Same thing happens in games you take less damage at a distance then you would standing right up against them. They can only do so much to balance it and keep it closer to reality. Melee weapons have their uses mind you but you have to prepared to take some damage back.

Ya can put a cost cap on legendaries.
Just sell those weapons needed for 300~500g at an npc

Then it becomes a bot fest. cause they apparently have all the money (going from the bot complaint forums) so hackers and botters would have a huge amount of them and hardly anyone else. The current system is not bad at all people just want to rush everything for some reason rather then have fun.

Difference between FPS RNG and GW2 RNG:
FPS RNG effects you for about 1 second while you get unlucky shots and miss continuously. You either die or kill them shortly after. Also, FPS RNG costs you nothing.

GW2 RNG effects you for a very large amount of time to gather resources, craft, and earn money to make precursor all to just HOPE that it works in the mystic forge.

There is a HUGE difference there. One costs you a respawn, the other costs you months, at the least as a legit single player.

Take into account how long an average FPS game is (30mins max) and a MMO which can take years. So if a FPS game decided to become a MMOFPS i bet you RNG would start to kitten people off a lot cause a single bullet missing could matter a lot.

edit: Not sure how a FPS would become a MMOFPS but just for sake of convo

Healing Power, Vitality and the Holy Trinity

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Suddenflame.2601

My warrior uses Toughness (which also gives healing power) in traits along with Vitality to make him extra beefy. I notice when my Healing power gets lower and does not take away from my soloing ability but rather allows me to survive for a long period of time while stacking bleed condition. So far i tested in Dungeons and i usually end up as the carry always having to take the aggro and res everyone. Sword + shield, Rifle, 3 signets 2 banners. The banner that increases Healing Power is not used often i noticed that its effect can be felt greatly I could be slowly dying only to change the entire battle by throwing it down and watching my character start regenerating all the damage while still fighting. Do not under estimate healing power and its effectiveness. I also taken it to WvWvW and i am the only warrior that can run into a horde (20+ people) with melee and escape afterwards. Most people i seen run into a horde and die in 1 sec. healing power has its use sure i lose power but the point of my tactic is if i can hold 5 people on me that is 4 people less for the enemy team that are being effective which means a lot in fight.

Why are a lot of gamers unsociable?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Suddenflame.2601

Suddenflame.2601

Reading through this thread i agree and disagree with some of the posts. Sure lots of people are unsociable but i met a ton of people and every time I play i gain a new follower (under contacts you can look at followers). DE Group Events when played in a zone with very little people (such as Charr zones) forces team work such as taking on a Champion Orge chief that was made for 5 people when you only have 2 people. You learn very fast to work together and be very skillful. People do not have to come together but weaker players will always want to play with the stronger players (not lvl but in skill). Each of my followers i helped and taught them the mechanics of the game and the trait system and to plan ahead. Its not often that a person knows their character to the point that they know how many enemies they can take at once or in DE Group Events know if they can take it or not. By being a helper rather then a brick wall generally makes the game a better place.

Also another thing people dont take into account some of the game mechanics that are in place. If you help kill a monster both people are awarded more experience plus bonus from how long monster has been alive. You earn more karma in DE for more people being there and partipating. If you see a person fighting a monster dont be afraid to shoot it once or stand and help fight. One thing i hate more is when people run by and dont help kill off a champion monster so you could be 1 person holding off a champion monster and everyone else just runs up opens the chest and leaves without helping those people i hate for they are techinically the worst players in the game.

So points to make it more socialable game:

  • Help people kill monsters
  • Help kill champion monsters rather then run for chest
  • Chat and help newer players without insulting them
  • Give suggestions to help players play style (due note some people cant take advice just dont take it personally when they throw insults its not your fault that they suck enough for you give these said suggestions)
  • Don’t insult people’s play style choices and understand that everyone plays differently
  • Work as a team in dungeons and communicate to ensure ulity skills work with each other

Economy? What Economy?

in Black Lion Trading Co

Posted by: Suddenflame.2601

Suddenflame.2601

Reading this entire thread i am coming to the conclusion that Botters are not significant of a problem as of yet. There is many mechanics in place that destroy the efficient aspects of botting code unless they are very smart. Also my entire time of playing i have yet to see that many botters in my server. Mind you some servers may have more but i am working on getting 2 lvl80 characters and have yet to run into 10 bots in Fort Aspenwood server (already have 1 lvl80). I also found that in crafting some items are worth more then others by a lot to the point they create a profit. Such as a pair of heavy armour pants sould for 14G when it cost me nothing to make (found all materials myself) even if i did buy the materials i still would make a profit of 12G per pants. There is still crafting items that are worth a ton of money. There is also items that i found that sold for 54G and are only lvl40 items and they sold in seconds after i posted it. Common items have lost their value just due to supply and demand. So far i have yet to see Botters effect the economy at all the ones that kitten me off are the stupid people who price items at vendor cost 1 while the fee is greater then it. There is many common items with this fault which just makes me vendor those items. That is not bots fault but all 100000 people i seen do it on those items. Supply and Demand. If you can fill the supply when there is a demand you make large profit. Another issue is Gold Sellers but they are being handled from what i seen.

PSA: Stop hounding Anet about bots

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

I think most of you are underestimating what a tricky problem this is to deal with and the amount of time and resources it would take. A single employee combing through the hundreds of reports a day and personally verifying that each one is a legitimate bot report? Yeah, right.

Then they need to hire as many as it takes. It took all of 3 months for bots to destroy D3’s economy beyond repair. We are 5 weeks out now, how much longer do you want to wait to take action?

D3 is a horrible comparison to this game and the bot situation and how to handle it. D3 is not a MMO and its economy went down hell in the first couple of weeks I know i was there. THings were overpriced and hyper inflated. Bots came in from the start pretty much and since single player game with no way of weeding them out as effectly. This is a MMO where players can keep an eye on the bots more. Also Anet sells the Gold as well so it makes Gold bots not as effecticent as in Diablo 3 where if you werent rich you couldnt afford anything and is just a bot and gold seller havon.

Fort Aspen Server doesnt appear to have too many bots. I traveled pretty good distance in the server on 2 different characters and have yet to see more then 1 or 2 bot like players.

I have 2 characters that been to dungeons. A warrior and a ranger. My warrior has high amounts of toughness and HP and has a hard time holding aggro. My Ranger just gets it all the time no matter what he is doing all bosses will come for my ranger. My ranger traits are focused on Power, Toughness then Vit. Something about my ranger attracts all bosses to him to the point where i was literally running around a single room with the Cave troll chasing me for the entire 10mins my party was shooting at him in AC. The graveling breeder near the spike traps decided i was a better target then anyone else and always came for me first. And i cant tell you enough how those oozes surronded my turrent during the fight against the Ghost Eater. The Oozes literally made a horde around me wierdly enough didnt attack me while on the turrent all i had was these oozes surronding me where ever i went. When i went off the turrent oozes followed me and so did the ghost eater when i started shooting at him.

The crying is to get the attention of the devs to address a problem most gamers are having with their product, that’s the point.

can I write this? or will this get trashed too? worst treatment I have ever experienced from an online game company.

“most gamers”? you do realize that the people posting on the forums, as with WoW, are a very small minority of the actual community. Theres maybe what 300 people who cry or troll here on a regular basis? there are over 1 million copies of the game sold already. “most gamers” are simply the same very vocal minority of any online game who cry and whine about everything they can, most of which don’t make any logical sence in the first place. Do you need to grind for max stat/viable gear? no they can all be bought, crafted, collected and crafted for you or exchanged for karma. Do you need to grind for the best looking gear ie Complete explorable dungeon sets? yes.

Repair costs to high? don’t go through 30s in deaths every dungeon and you wont be bothered. Dont like the reward nerf? Maybe just do a different path/ easy mode story dungeon every 15min and you wont be bothered and not the same thing repeatedly. As far as i’ve seen every dungeon in the game is doable without corpse congoing, so there’s no need to just do one path in the first place, you may, god forbid, have to learn how to play the game.

I actually agree with you. I done a few dungeons and find them great fun cause i know in the end that the reward is not meant to be given instancously like it is in other games. it is meant to be worked towards over a long run not in short runs. When you do dungeons your meant to know your character and how it works rather then use exploits and bugs. If you keep dieing its your own fault for not using your character correctly or not working with your group to help combo. Dungeons need Damage/support/control and if everyone goes in there as damage guess what your more likely to die since you cant control the mobs. Learn to play the dungeons rather then cry that they are too hard or they are not rewarding. I can go through a dungeon and hardy die ever and i make a huge profit with each run just cause i know not to die. I dont go damage either i go to support my team or in mid dungeon switch to control. Don’t have a team full of damage people cause guess what your going to die more cause nothing is keeping the enemies off of you.

How to fix Dungeons: A lesson in game design.

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

The dungeon design is fine as is. The goal is to work towards the armour set not just freely given it after each completion. That would defeat the purpose and make the armour even less rewarding. The dungeons are not about instant reward as many people in the forums are wanting. They are about working to achieve something greater. Speed runs diminish that as well as people using exploits which is why in the patch they destroyed both since it destroyed the since of achievement. Like Prestige armour in GW1 took a long time to get and you had to work yourkitten off to be able to get it either through mass farming or running.

I crafted as I leveled, made what I could, used drops and Karma gear for the rest.

Now I’m 80 and selling pretty much everything I come across, while having a nice exotic set that I made for myself.

And I’ve got ~6g

lol my warrior at lvl42 has 6g

Where is all my money?

Suddenflame.2601

I never have money troubles nor drop troubles i usually use all 76 slots and run out of inventory. Mind you i dont stand in 1 spot either i am constantly on the move. TO get materials is not hard i had enough materials to get my one character from 0 to 130 weaponsmithing. (only stopped cause i ran out of iron to make steel). materials you can kill a few monsters then move. In a single zone or event fight i can pick up 30 bags (that give material) and about 50 other items. THen i move on to the next event and repeat. Its not hard guys dont stand around and kill monsters for no reason go to events espically ones with timers (rather then mob counts). You will see your item drops increase greatly. Hell when i had 56 item slots i ran out of space at each event just cause of all the drops (i actually had to leave stuff behind)

It is also somewhat of an issue with the Spirit slot abilities. When you try to use a spirit ability it take about 3 sec for the ability to actually go off.

They are working as intended. If you watch they have an animation that was intended to delay their activation. When you press the button the spirit has to raise his one arm and depending on the effect either creates an orb of light, or smashes the ground. But either way its not immidate and you should use it ahead of time.

Am i dealing too little damage?

in Ranger

Suddenflame.2601

I wonder sometimes myself if i am doing enough damage. Lvl80 and fighting minions of Orr which are lvl80 and that becomes a pain. I can take 2-3 on but thats really really risky without a ton of dodging since all enemies there have one or more of the following: stuns/immoblizes/pulls/knockdowns/aoe/ DOT/ect. It just feels like i am not doing enough

Prayer to Dwyana healing skill needs buff

in Human

Suddenflame.2601

for a 3 skill point skill you would think it would be better or at least have something to make it more. As a lvl80 ranger it heals for 6723 takes 30 secs to recharge and can not be used under water (well you cant prayer under water very well so i give them that one). My first healing skill that came with ranger gives 6759 healing with only 20 sec cooldown. So a free skill is better then the racial skill unless it heals people around me as well (which it doesnt state) it is essentially the worst healing skill. Toll urgnet heals 884hp/sec over 10 secs which if your looking for some major healing is best considering it gives 8840hp over the course of its activation it also has a 25sec recharge. It seems like the gods have really left the humans Also the blessing is not allowed in PVP making it even worse.

I dont use the precision signet. I use Signet of Might, Dolyak signet, signet of stamina, and healing signet. the signet of stamina comes in handy for me as i am often the one that gets the boss aggro for some reason and i spend most of the time dodging attacks.
