So far the matchmaking hasn’t been fair or even close. It is either a stomp on either team. Such as 500 to 200 or 500 to 100. Occasionally 500 to 300. And very very rare for me it’s a 500 to 400. I been stuck at Emerald Tier 1 this entire time. I win some games then i get stomped on the rest. I would be more excited if this was closer but it isn’t. Least in season 1 and 2 i was able to get somewhere (ruby) both times eventually but this season has just been torture. I get a good few rounds where we win by a large margin but then turn around and get beat back down to the start by once again a large margin.

2 accounts 2 different loot experiences

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Suddenflame.2601

Suddenflame.2601

You guys are claiming that the loot code is broken but are not providing the data the supports the claim. I have an account with 15000 AP. I am finding more exotics now than before. This is anecdotal evidence that provides us with no knowledge of the issue at hand. You should have used your accounts and marked every drop you received in the game from the start. For the evidence to be significant, there must be well over 10000 points of data and probably over 1000 exotic drop points of data to significantly say that there is an issue. To just say that there is an issue doesn’t mean an issue really exists as you could making up one. If an account is receiving several hundred exotics more than another during the same time frame than there is an issue.

You also must define what are you referring to as Exotics and drop. Are you referring to an actual drop from a monster or a chest drop as both use different loot tables. Also at what Magic Find % are you working at as obviously the one with more MF should see a slight increase in the number of exotic drops from monsters (MF% does not affect chests). And what kind of exotics are you referring to? Is it weapons and armour or including all types of exotics? As well, FOTM also has a significantly higher rate of exotic drop rate so you can not use the data from it.

[Suggestion] Collision Turned on

Suddenflame.2601

Collision/Body Blocing is problematic.
There’s a reason they didn’t include it, when you have classes like Necromancers (who can summon a lot of minions) or gameplay where a LOT of players are in a concentrated area at once it gets super problematic.

In GW1 it was a pretty common tactic for Ritualists to summon spirits in strategic places to completely block people from getting through areas, it wouldn’t be difficult to do that in GW2 with strategically places Engineer Turrets, or a couple of Guardians/Warriors. Forced collision only works in games where the population is highly spread out and there isn’t a lot of open world content.

Testing it in dungeons wouldn’t help – it’s the one area of the game where it WOULD work without a hitch. The second you try and introduce it into the open world or WvW you end up with problems. (PvP has small enough team counts for it to not really make a huge difference).

If it would work in Dungeons they should include it in dungeons to prevent Stack here to win situations. Open world they could add a new world boss area as a test for one of the LS. If it goes bad it gets changed or deleted like other LS. If it gets good they can further test it.

With collisions turned on, 1 player could block any jumping puzzle of the game.

I don’t support that, however i do support all the enemies collisions enabled. Because you always have a way to push/kill/move it away, and it would work fine since zergs could still hit the same enemy but it would be trickier.

Selected Collision areas such as JPs. Basically once you enter a JP area collision gets turned off. Minions should have no collision just players and mobs. Also, the commander should not be yelling for a stack on him since collision turned on wouldn’t allow stacking in the first place.

Suddenflame.2601

A good suggestion is to turn Collision on for everywhere expect for towns. This way more tactics can be used in WvW and stacking would become impossible. This would lead to more dynamic gameplay as people would have to figure out different ways to play. Also in WvW you could have heavies protecting the squishies rather than armies just going through each other like they are ghosts.

As a test for this Anet should make a collision dungeon. A dungeon in which collision is turned on to see how people react to it. If the reaction is good they can turn on Collision in different areas and see how people react to it.

Make ALL equipment salvageable.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Suddenflame.2601

Currently you cannot salvage equipment you purchased with Karma, Badges of Honor and certain other exceptions. This is a huge problem for people who have, for instance, invested in expensive runes for armor that isn’t being used anymore, but since there is no way to transmute equipment now we can’t “transfer” upgrades from equipment.

The solution is simple:

If you salvage equipment that was bought with Karma or Badges of Honor, you get NO essences of luck/globs of ectoplasm/dark matter/crafting materials, none of that. You ONLY get the chance based on your salvage kit of getting the upgrade back. This solves so many issues it’s not even funny.

Also ANet, get rid of your stupid Upgrade Extractors from the Gem Store. Those are an insult to the playerbase. Starting price of 250 gems for ONE? Jesus Christ what the hell…

You used to but people began to exploit it. So no you wont get that back. Your asking for impractical things. No one is forcing you to use upgrade extractors but people buy them therefore they will stay. Your asking for unreasonable demands.

Anet being competent is impractical? Is it so much to make sure things cost what they should from vendors? This isnt some indie developer with a $20 dollar a week budget.

This is just another part of the game spoiled by the cash shop, like BoA ascended, and BoE legendaries.

I did not say anything about the cost of it. I made the statement about him wanting it removed from the gem shop.

Immersion vs "It's just a game"

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Suddenflame.2601

Suddenflame.2601

The primary difference is who is offended and the viewpoint of the people. Racism and jokes in bad taste offends people and is a constant problem in the real world. Everyone has their own opinions of what is offensive and what is not, but racism affects the real world so no its not just a game (unless its being racist against Charr or an Asura than its just a game). Being racist against black, asian, etc. offends people in real world.

Immersion on the other hand is just a game and if you have to be told that than you should need a doctor and get some help.

Suddenflame.2601

What do you want, a broadcast in game of the patch notes?

Actually, that’s not a bad idea. A small pop up box when zoning in to the game with just a brief list of fixes (or a link to the relevant web page), or major things like “New language filter in Chat Options” or something like that, would actually work. A lot of MMORPG’s use that kind of thing to notify players of important things.

How about a frame that appears when first logging in, but before pressing the Play button that gives news about the game including the patch notes?

Its not Anets fault if the players do not check the forums for the patch updates. They knew there was a patch (hence the download) so while they are waiting for it to download they could you know actually read the patch notes? Players are humans therefor they are more than capable of going to the forums and reading the patch notes where they always been. No point in wasting resources for putting an ingame patch notes that the same people who couldnt waste the time to come to the forums will just ignore the patch notes already.

Megaservers and RP

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Suddenflame.2601

Suddenflame.2601

Main issue i see here is no one is differing between NA and EU. The forums contain both but people play on different megaservers (NA and EU are still separate).

I do not know the case of EU since I am in NA. The NA servers from what I seen are doing great (since we dont have the language barrier in the first place as English is pretty much the most common). I havn’t seen the issue of breaking up the Guilds as every map i been on that uses megaserver (which by the way are not many atm and would never break up the guilds as they are not populated enough to do so) I have been with my Guildmates each time.

NA server towns are not widely populated such as the Grove is still pretty dead as is. I think the problem lies in EU servers more than NA.

Population falling ?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Suddenflame.2601

I love how people think something “light” is necessarily for younger people. There’s a whole lot of older people who don’t like dark as well. And those people have plenty of money to spend on gaming.

I’d personally prefer a darker storyline, but ESO was so generic, it wasn’t the darker storyline I was looking for.

How is ESO generic? There are so many quests, far more than GW2, involving multiple storylines that are beyond a children’s storybook and deal with mature content and have much more quality voice-acting – not to say GW2 voice acting is bad but its sparser.

As for the"older people with lots of money" to spend on gaming, imagine the cries of righteous indignation if SAB was to be put behind a paywall.

You must understand that to many new players we’re talking MMORPG vs MMORPG, and they don’t give a crap about GW/TES lore since they’re new to both. Or rather, even if you don’t agree, it doesn’t change their decision making at all.

In such an instance, the king is value-for-money, and because it’s that much more expensive, TESO can’t ever compare with GW2 for that. The people I know here are starting to join GW2, steadily… though my community in itself is slow to join MMORPGs.

Man I am really tired of logging in daily just to craft my mats for ascended daily, or killing Teq daily for months and not see a Sunless weapon, going to COF P1 for the ten thousandth time. Even guild missions become a drag.

Whereas in TESO, new zones and new dungeons are rolled out at the end of month for people who level cap very quickly. This is within the first month of launch. Whatever your criticism of Zenimax, they dont sit on their behind.

LOL just had a good laugh at your comment. Well of course there is more quests in ESO compared to GW2. GW2 does not have quests unless you count personal story and hearts (hearts were added later in the beta just to please people).

There is a difference between TESO and GW2. GW2 the main complaint was it was too hard at launch go ahead and look up at those old forums. TESO main complaint is its too easy. GW2 in the first few months after its release had to nerf a huge amount of things due to complaints. TESO had to add content sooner then intended just to please its population. If you look at it this way you notice GW2 in the longer run is more sustainable since it did not need to release new content so soon just to keep its player base happy. November 2012 GW2 had to release a carrot on a stick for people and we all remember that fail.

With that in mind GW2 had to time gate things to prevent mad rushing of ascended gear. If they didnt put time gates how long do you think people would have full ascended gear? GW2 is designed to be Casual friendly whereas TESO is designed for hardcore big difference in audiences that need to be accounted for when your making comparisons of which your making. GW2 tries to keep hardcore players and casual players within the game by leveling the power and having log function gear progression. TESO has exponential to linear gear progression meaning there is a massive disparity between high lvl armour vs. low lvl armour.

Final Point: TESO combat system sucks since it tries to copy GW2 action combat style of combat with dodges but fails. If you have TESO try to strafe that arrow coming at you. You will literally watch it do an 180 or a 360 and hit you. The game forces you to use up your dodges just to dodge even the most insignificant damage.

Weapon Presets

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Suddenflame.2601

Suddenflame.2601

Not swapping but being able to change the 2 sets of weapons you have.

Ex. An elemental has 2 daggers. The first preset could be scepter/dagger. The second preset could be dagger/focus. The third preset could be a staff. Ect

Just a quick way to get what ever combination of weapons you need with a click of a button before battle.

Its would be great to be able to change the weapon combo depending on the enemy or situation.

The coding necessary for this to work would be more than it would beneficial. At this moment weapons are stored in your inventory when not in use. A preset would either would have to store the weapon not in your inventory but in a special spot or else it would cause major issues as it would have to keep tracking the location of your weapon in your inventory at every point. As shown with mini pets the code for option B does not exist since moving it in your inventory cancels the minipet.

If option A is implemented they would have to add extra areas of storage which means adding new columns into the database tables which then requires a database migration. With over three million accounts this would take a bit of work.

Anet hasnt stated anything about those topics in a long time. last time they mentioned them was during Queen Jenna event. Player Housing will come out same time as Guild Halls if they do them. (hence the ifs) This is just information i read from Anet announcements since day 1 about each of those subjects.

Will the loot dropped always be so abysmal?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Suddenflame.2601

Suddenflame.2601

Hold on a sec here. People are trying to compare the loot systems of Diablo 3, an ARPG dungeon crawler focusing on vertical progression, with GW2, an MMORPG with ARPG elements focusing on horizontal progression?

What are you wanting from GW2 loot? For if they increase the loot drops of everything than everyone would have that item. This in turn means it loses its value in the long run.

This game has very little vertical progression and trying to compare Vanilla D3 and GW2 just doesn’t make much sense. In D3 the game is focused entirely on getting better gear. Also note even in D3 ROS doing harder content does not guarantee better gear. It increases the chance of getting it but does not guarantee it like some people were saying. GW2 doing harder content increases the chances of getting better gear. Killing a moa has a lot less chance at getting an precursor than killing a world boss.

Loot system wise GW2 is doing it correctly. Looking at everyone else ideas here would lead to economic ruin as it would devalue a huge amount of items (precursors and exotics).

I personally have never gotten a precursor from a drop and that’s to be expected. Precursors are meant to be rare drops like in D3 ROS to get a rare item (full set) it will take you awhile and are highly valued.

Your complaining about the loot system. Ok let us see you guys suggest a loot system that:

  1. keeps the current method of rewarding everyone
  2. without vertical progression
  3. that provides non-abysmal loot without devaluing rare items.

Have you checked out D3 forums since ROS? I actually find them quite positive overall. And, this is reflective of the fact that forums generally reflect the state of the game.

I was just reading them before making this posting. They are still horrible beyond belief. The first page of postings is just filled with negative forums filled with people insulting each other.

I got nothing against forums that criticize the game or are angry about the balancing of classes etc. What I go against is if the arguments and debates end in just insults (in the case of Diablo 3 starts in insults).

I have a ranger and I do post in Ranger forums sometimes, but those forums are still decent and there is a constructive conversation. You won’t have someone in the ranger forums insulting you drastically for not agreeing (can’t say the insults here cause of the filter and don’t want infractions lol).

Infractions are helpful as they keep the most toxic people out or makes them think about what they are saying.

After reading through many different video game forums , such as Diablo 3 and WoW. I have come to the conclusion that this forum community is by far more tolerant and respectful. The number of flaming forums on here are not as toxic and insulting to read.

Diablo 3 forums are like trying to listen to rival gangs talk with each other without being able to shoot. Extremely toxic community with insults and threats being thrown around every 3rd post (sometimes more frequent). Even reading some of the “helping” threads ends up in a giant war over nothing (or a missing calculation or something small).

So here is a big thank you to Anet and the GW2 Forum community for being more tolerant and respectful in the posts. The worst GW2 posts are similar to the best Diablo 3 posts!

However, on the other hand, completely changing the whole combat mechanics of a dungeon boss out with total overpowered new attack skills, alot of them which seem to just taken from the attack animations ect. from the latest new edge of the mist creatures, but just only more OP and more annoying as hell with constant fear spam and attacks that hit so hard, that even defensive players with PVT gear get nearly instant downed if you don’t dodge its quick attacks…

Something like this MUST get announced . As like the boss its now, its basically a path breaker, it completely ruins the whole path 1.
If this is only some kind of “Test”, then remove it, make a hot fix and change the path back to how it worked originally, if this change wasn’t planned on intention!

However, seriously, for what do the Devs have Test Servers outside of the normal play server ??? I ask myself, if this change should be really only a test, that didn’t get removed and somehow landed in the final patch unrecognized …

PS: edited the Thread Title to further prevent misinterpretations

Some times it is not easy to narrow down the changes a person has made. This has happened in LOL and in WOW before along with many other games. I remember it took 3 days for them to find code that was causing issues in LOL just because a developer forgot to remove test code.

Hve you ever tried Spvp, it’s a joke and they are not completely different. This game is based off of a gem store to make money because of a lack of subscription fee. The games are very similar for a number of reasons. You completely miss read the post and this game will die along with you in it I guess if you enjoy it so much.

The truth is that this game tries to produce crap for people to buy to make up for sub fee’s, that’s not an argument it’s a truth, get over it.

What they should do is take some of the effort put into shinny content and try to make the game good. The hype for GW2 eports was such a joke after the game was released and now a year later they’re doing major spvp patches and stuff? Get out of here that’s a joke

I have played SPVP, and it is substantially different compared to League of Legends. I do not see where your trying to compare. You seem to think that SPVP is the only thing in this game that the developers need to work on. League of Legends only has to worry about SPVP cause that is all there is in that game. The Gem Store has no effect on SPVP so I do not get your correlation there. Gem Store team is not the same team that does SPVP. So your argument is moot once again.

You can not take the Gem Store development team and send them on the SPVP development team as both require drastically different skills. You are thinking that GW2 is a single team when in reality there is many teams.

As far as we know right now there is:

  • 4 Living Story Teams
  • 1 WvW Team
  • 1 SPVP Team
  • 1 Gem Store Team
  • 1 QA Team
  • 1 Support Team

There is more teams and probably more teams that haven’t made themselves known. Your trying to make connections where there isn’t any.

Reading through your post and a few points you need to learn:

  1. Your comparing League of Legends a different genre of game with a lot content to Guild Wars which has 1000 times more content.
  2. There is far more maps in GW2 than there is in League of Legends. SPVP is also not the only game type they have to worry over.
  3. We do not know what Anet is currently working on. SPVP 2v2, 3v3, 1v1 arenas could be in development, but we do not know, and they do not need to tell us because how the community reacts to even a sliver of information.
  4. Anet does biweekly to monthly patches with bug fixes and everything within each. I don’t know where you been for the last year and a half, but there has been a ton of bug fixes and changes on a biweekly to monthly basis with no breaks for a month.
  5. Unlike League of Legends Anet sells cosmetic items rather than entire heroes that change gameplay as well League of Legends should have lower operating costs (since they are the publisher and developer). Which means that money via gem store needs to be generated.

In most of my points your argument becomes moot because your comparing two drastically different genres and expect the same results. League of Legends has a lot less content and a lot less coding to deal with. MOBA to MMORPG amount of code is like 1:100 so for every line of code for the MOBA game there is 100 for an MMORPG. League of Legends has 3 maps to deal with and only variants on the map are the characters. In GW2 there is over 70 maps each one varying based on the players, events, NPCs, etc. This means a lot more can go wrong. If you going to try to compare the two at least choose the same genre.

A better comparison would be to another Active combat MMORPG (since types of combat change coding drastically as well due to the degree of movement).

Question about sigils....

Suddenflame.2601

Okay, here’s my question, if I have 2 weapons with the same sigil, does one get cancelled?

I purchased 2 “Maw of the kitten ed” axes for my Charr warrior. (http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Maw_of_the_kitten ed)

It was chosen by me because of the look of the weapon AND because of the superior sigil of force that it is born with and wanting a ’zerker weapon. My intention was to get 2 +5% damage boosts but I am not sure this will happen.

Can someone comment on this? TIA.

Notes
Does not stack if used on both main hand and off hand weapons.

one of the most beginner friendly dungeon paths of the whole game

isn’t HotW tied for the highest level dungeon in the game? why should that standing be beginner friendly? AC, CM, and TA should be beginner friendly. I would expect end-game dungeons to be a pain the kisser.

CoF P1 is almost certainly the easiest dungeon path in the game, and it does not become available until level 75.

Regardless of their intention, it is clear that dungeon difficulty has nothing to do with the level it becomes available.

It is very annoying that arenanet didn’t feel the need to inform the dungeon community of their changes. Last I killed this troll he dropped AC tokens too lol. So much fail.

Sounds like a conflict in information on the troll. Meaning the troll is bugged unintentionally. This happens often when dealing with many variations of code. Some times people forget to delete lines of code or add lines of code to the million lines of code there already is. It only takes 1 person to make this mistake when handing in their assignment. The amount of time it takes to look through the code would take far to long for 1 person to even look at it. If it becomes to Anet’s Attention (AKA support ticket with screenshots or recording) will help Anet narrow down the issue and help them fix it faster. Complaining about it on the forums is less likely to get the issue fixed.

This by the sounds of it is not an intended change but rather a developer was doing some testing and forgot to remove the code he was testing when he handed his variation in. No one would think to check a single troll in HOTW if the guy was working on server optimization but on his spar time was working on the troll.

Less melee punishing

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Melee puts in more risk but is rewarded with higher damage output.
Ranger is in less risk but is punished with lower damage output.

This is in pretty much every game in extense! Even FPS have this (insta kill with knife).

Your getting mixed up with punish and risk. Risk is how much damage you could potentially take (which in GW2 can be negated). Punish is to taken away. So Ranged have lower potential of taking damage but their damage output is lowered to compensate.

Based on this terminology Melee is never punished but is rewarded.

This is based on distance:

Long Range: Low Risk but lower Damage
Med Range: Medium Risk and Medium Damage
Close Range: High Risk but High Damage.

The closer you are to the target the higher your potential damage you will take, but at the same time the higher your potential damage against the target.

Edit: Main issue in GW2 is Medium is missing so there is a large divide between close and long range. Long Range takes a massive hit to damage when over 90% of the damage can be negated meaning that close range do not receive the damage 90% of the time even though the potential is there.

Rangers have the longest range of 1500 along with the arrows being able to exceed that distance (They can try it out especially when shooting from higher ground). Longest shot I have done in 2200 range with Range LB.

Anet, on the topic of a new playable race

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Kodan do not have a capital city any more they are refugees. The Tengu is most likely due to having the Dominion of the Wind.

Quaggan are refugees as well and do not have a major city
Skritt has a city in Brisban Wildlands.
The Grawl have a city that we can not enter (there is a door and guards but it wont open but there is a portal behind it meaning you can eventually get in).

So based on these factors Tengu and Grawl are the most likely candidates for another playable race. both have existed since GW1.

Dev Blog: Changes to Traits

I just have to say you don’t know who Laidri is do you? She was an epic hard boss like character during the Queen’s Jubilee. You had to solo her, and only a small percentage of the player base was able to beat her. By placing a trait behind her would mean only about 15% of the player base would be able to get said trait. This would be terrible. There is no world trains for her and she isn’t done any more cause she doesn’t exist in game at the moment (she might return next Queen’s Jubilee).

I’m sorry, I mixed her up with the temple of lyssa event. But why would they automatically attach crucial skills to temporary events anyway. I wouldn’t worry about that.

The guy’s point was not about the temporary content aspect but placing a skill behind such a big wall. Such as adding new content that can only be soloed that is just as tough or tougher than Laidri for a new trait or skill. There should be alternatives for the people who are unable to complete said content.

OP, I am glad you have X number of hours a day to go out and work on all these trait books. But someone like me who works more than they play the game I like the fact they always add an option for things to just be purchased with gold. Wish other companies would learn that this method works.

Why would you rather do the same old things than go out in the world to do other new things? The vendor would remove content for casual people too, not to mention liven up the world a bit for people still leveling.

If you want to keep farming dungeons that’s fine, that’s your choice, but don’t hide behind the guise of a casual player.

For example, imagine having the best trait locked behind Liadri without offering an alternative.

Which would be great! Why is this a bad thing, when Liadri is now something that is hardly ever done, basically only when the worldtrains are there? Imagine that events like that would be done on regular intervals because people would actually get meaningful rewards from them.

I just have to say you don’t know who Laidri is do you? She was an epic hard boss like character during the Queen’s Jubilee. How to Bring Back (A Similar) Heroes (System)

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Suddenflame.2601

Heroes in GW2 would not be as effective or required. Another issue with Heroes is the AI system needed to be effective in GW2 is far more complex than in GW1. GW1 used a probability combat system where as GW2 uses an active combat system. Heroes would suffer from the same effects as rangers pets. Plus the massive load on the servers to perform the AI would be tremendous especially if there is more than 1
