Has Anet changed so much since the days of GW that the notion of them making something for the game without making a profit is so alien? They used to introduce new stuff all the time that was accessible in-game as drops. Now it’s all gem-store & RNG boxes.

With so many CDIs on the forums asking for player suggestions and discussion, wouldn’t player design contests be a logical extension?

To bad I didn’t have this idea sooner to add to the CDI forums before they became locked. I think that player-generated content should be on the top of their list of things to do. The amount of player-generated content makes those types of games famous and higher reviewed. Such as Skyrim with its mod kits (Steam Workshop as well). Portal with its mods as well helps out. DOTA 2 has a large player base with some very cool looking gear just because of the players. I do not know any MMO that uses Player-generated content very often but if Guild Wars 2 starts it could be more initiative.

I give up. You’re just inventing virtual complications to bury the idea of open pvp just because you don’t like it. There’s no point debating further.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Begging_the_question

We are not inventing virtual complications but presenting real ones that would occur. I am a computer scientist which means I study and perform all forms of coding and algorithm analysis. Your simple 2-lines were not simple 2 lines but a massive amount of checks and a database update. In the coding you have to define the relationship between the players. In this case your building an entire new relationship. Which by the way is not simple to do and can cause a huge amount of unwanted side effects. This is why PVP servers are generally kept separate from PVE servers as there is a major performance hit along with other issues. Another thing is PVP servers are hardly ever added after the fact. Even when they are the game was already expecting to put them it in meaning they already have a placeholder for all the data required for it.

If you can’t see why open pvp would have a big performance hit, take a few friends with you and go stand in the middle of an event with 20+ players, then you and your friends all trigger a costume brawl.

then watch the stream of obscenities every player will yell at you as everyone’s performance completely bottoms out.

that’s a really small hit compared to what you’d experience if those same number of pvp players had access to real builds with all the conditions, boons, fields and finishers.

Better yet get the entire server to take part in the custom brawl and watch the server slow to a crawl and possibly crash and that is without real skills. Hell minipets even took a huge hit on the servers to the point they had to put code in just to restrict them.

Those “team flags” are not available for players though, they are only available for mobs. From a design side, adding a new variable for players might very well require a completely new field on their database (to hold the team flag) something that is certainly not as easy to do.

How come not? Why would the devs decide to make such a terrible design decision?
How then do they differentiate the greens in WvW? It’s most likely that a camp shares team with its holder. What makes you think otherwise?

That’s a server flag, and it’s completely different. Unless you want to use server flags in PVE too. Oh wait, they are ALREADY used in PVE, just open your guild roster and you will see them, so those can’t be used for the PVE dueling.

So which variable will be used to store your Duel status? A new one, which means recreating their entire user database.

Database upgrades are the hardest to implement and rightfully so, like for example the PVP locker, it can’t be upgraded to hold multiple quantities of the skins due to the constraints of the database field used to store that info.

And now you want to add a completely new entry to the user database, rework and migrate a database of a few milion accounts, and call it easy and simple?

From a simple Database design the idea of the duel flags isn’t easy to implement, at all. Unless they have some hidden placeholder entries for “future” content (which they might have but who knows)

Finally someone else who understands databases! This is correct, but I doubt any of the future content reserved space in the database is boolean or integer based (since you decide those during the design phase).

I’m actually working on Databases myself and the single worst line a client might give me is “it’s a simple new field to add”, of course after the project is finished and the database is already working… makes me RAGE

If it was in MS Access it would be simple to add but in a pure SQL server hell no lol.

Gank Squads can simply harass all Meta Events since they scale the event up and even kill the players that want to make the event.

Since all skills work as open AoE skills it would also be hard to change that they can decide between targets that are flaged and those that are not.

In the end its just wasted developer time .. people who want that kind of game should simply play AION or whatever ..

All these points are invalidated by the PvP safety toggle.
AoE skills don’t attack green players.

The number of checks needed for this would be terrible. You would need to check for everything to even make this feasible.

Edit: let me elaborate on this. To make this possible the servers would check to see if your in PVP mode or in safe mode than it would have it compare it with every other player every time a person checked or unchecked the safety toggle. This means potentially over 3million checks on the first day. Then you have to place checks for when 1 person is in safety and the other person isn’t just to figure out how they interact with each other.

Its not horrible design. i can explain how this works easily. In the database for WvW there is information holding your home server. This is what is used for the checks. Your suggestion for a check box requires 2 checks however as it has to compare every player with your checkbox and your checkbox with every player. In WvW it only has to compare server with server which is a lot easier to do.

The bigger question is why do you need a PVP server when there is WvW?
There isn’t questing in this game (only hearts and they are limited) so you can’t use that excuse. Both contain monsters, mining, and events. The only major difference would be that there is world bosses in the PVE servers. In those cases you would not want to have your PVP checkbox on (since that’s the largest suggestion here) as you would get murdered fast from all the AOE and miss out on the reward.

Basically, the only thing that you can do differently in a PVP server from the WvW server would be griefing low level players or griefing events. Either case is negative to the community.

By questing I meant the hearts and the events, also implying the size of Tyria and all the travelling.
When fighting with more people it is evident you’d need to uncheck the PvP box; but that’s the whole point of it.
The thing I’m trying to defend here is you’d be able to PvP in the open whilst simultaneously doing PvE.
With the PvP box you wouln’t be able to grief events nor players.
If you can think of a single situation in which you would be able to, please share.

As you just said you would have uncheck that box for world bosses. Right there is a major grief. As well WvW is PVE with PVP. There are events in WvW already. As well lore wise PVP servers are not possible.

As well as history of games has taught us even with said check box griefing will still be done. Also, how many people do you think would actually be playing with the checkbox on? I doubt very many. As well it is not 2 lines of code more like 2000 with all the checks that need to be done.

It will never happen. Anet isn’t Valve.

Anet’s priority is the bottom line and your suggestion wouldn’t increase that. Regardless of someone drawing up a sketch of some armor they’d still have to have their modelers/programmers make the meshes and textures, QA test for clipping (lol), artists design the gem shop ad.

Then they’d have to decrease their revenue by paying out gems to the creator? Why do that when people will already happily buy their reskins.

I also believe this would increase gem sales and increase overall happiness of the community as there would be armours that people want inside and outside of the gem store. It would also get the community more involved in the game as they could vote for the weapons, and armour they want to see in the game. It would also increase the number of weapon skins and armour skins that people can find or buy.

The creators could also add particle effects and other effects that would impressive. They could also add effects only available if entire sets are worn (in the case of open world. Wouldn’t make much sense for gem store ones).

If they take the same route as Valve the creator has to ensure that there isn’t clipping, and all the QA is completed. Unlike other sets of armour the creator can choose the race. Meaning certain sets will be only available to certain races set by the creator. Textures will also be created by the creator (that’s the whole point) the meshes will be made by Anet but could be modified by the creator. If it is in the gem shop that is why Anet gets part of the profits (they are the seller and the creator is the supplier).

IIRC, I think GW used to have “design-a-xxxxx” contests often where fans would design mostly weapons and sometimes armor and the winners would find their way into the game. I really wish GW2 would do the same thing. There are some really talented & imaginative fans.

GW1 did have those contests, and they were some of the best designed weapons in the game. I remember one of which was the hardest weapon to get in the game. GW2 instead of having it only a one time only contest should have it like a workshop.

There should be a website where you can download the models for the armour. Guidelines from Anet should also be placed (such as no copyright infringements). From there people can create then upload to the website their designs while designating if they want it to be open-world or gem-store.

After the uploading the players can look at the uploaded armours (and weapons shouldn’t limit to armour) and vote on the ones they like. They should be separated based on open-world or gem-store. This way the players can decide which they want to see in the game the most.

As well gem-store items would give profit to the creator as they would get a portion of the gems (percentage to be debated).

Now rework your idea so that anet makes at least as much profit off of it as they do now from reskinning armor and selling it for 800 gems or more in the store.

If it is in the gem store Anet has to make a profit from it (DOTA 2 does the same) but the creator should also get a share of the profit. If it exists in the game (DOTA 2 has it the same here as well) Anet gets 0 profit from it and nor does the creator but the armour can be found by anyone.

I came up with an interesting idea while discussing with people about the current state of armour sets.

The idea is exact same idea as DOTA 2. Anet releases the models for the characters (such as, Human and Charr) along with the basic models used to create armour (such as current armours already in-game). From there let the community design and vote on armour sets they want to see in-game.

This reduces the work load on Anet while at the same allows the players to have sets of armours we want in the game. The creator should also be able to choose if he wants in gem store or found in the game.

And if... GW2 didn't had leveling?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Suddenflame.2601

Suddenflame.2601

This topic comes up a lot. OP you should have looked at the forums search and found 1 of the 1000 topics. Done this part of the rant.

Ok now on to the most common reason why there are levels. GW2 during Alpha did not have any levels. Nor did it have hearts. Both were added after alpha testers disliked the idea of not having the sense of accomplishment. They wanted to feel like they were getting stronger (which is what levels do). So without levels people think they are not getting any where. As well without hearts people did not understand what to do or what goals they should have.

Anet tried to design GW2 in the aspect that there were no concrete goals, and you could do what you wanted to do. Turns out humans are too dumb for that concept as seen by the million threads saying there is no end game. SO over the years Anet has been trying to fix that design philosophy and put concrete goals in.

GW1 did not have concrete goals and players could do what they wanted (mostly there were still quests). GW2 shared that same philosophy forward but was not successful since a majority of the player base was not from GW1.

I am so bored..

Suddenflame.2601

When ever i get bored of GW2 I take extended breaks (usually at the wrong LS times tho). I have started taking a new break recently since EOTM was released I have reduced my total game time. Battle for LA I did it for like 5 days.. I havn’t even started this new one yet I just can’t get myself into playing this type of game at the moment. I tried Aion but that game is boring as well and a generic type of game.

Currently I am playing the Open Beta for The Mighty Quest for Epic Loot by Ubisoft. Its a refreshing change of pace with a different style of game. Its a different play style of MMO. (PS its FTP and there is no BTP or PTW)

If your getting bored of the game find a new game (FTP if you can’t afford it). Such as I also played Borderlands 2 and FATE while on this break just to get over the hump of playing it far too much. I did the same with GW1. I been playing GW2 since launch. I had to take a 2 month break during the F&F LS.

Edit: Take a break rather than insult and trash the game. If you play too much you will get bored that is the same with any game.

Communication Regarding Fractals Reset

Suddenflame.2601

Like really guys does it seem fair that if you played FOTM prior to the update that you had an easier time getting to rank 50 than new people trying to get to FOTM rank 50?

Getting to 50 now is way easier than what it used to be before Fractured, the only part more “difficult” is have more stuff than before (AR), but the skill requirement is way lower. People have now so much AR that they don’t have to focus on dodging like we did when we had only 25-30 AR.

So in the end it wouldn’t have been any more difficult since Ascended armour was introduced with combinable infusions which again would have lowered the difficulty. Or did you forget about those 2 things. Even if they didn’t add combinable infusions just the mere fact that Ascended armour was introduced would have lowered the difficulty any way. By adding new things increased the skill requirement again.

Communication Regarding Fractals Reset

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Suddenflame.2601

I am trying to figure out what the issue is here. Fractals were reset to 30 or anyone above rank 30 would be already far above the new content which would make the new leaderboards invalid. They also put a hard cap of rank 50 to prevent people from going higher than that because there is no new challenge or anything different above that. So they need to make content above rank 50.

You are wanting Anet to apologize for reverting you down to rank 30? Like really guys does it seem fair that if you played FOTM prior to the update that you had an easier time getting to rank 50 than new people trying to get to FOTM rank 50?

They also changed the rewards system for FOTM giving better rewards for higher ranks.

The only thing they did wrong is not changing old FOTM weapons into skins (ones without stats) like they currently are.

Going to floor 50 in the previous FOTM was not that hard and less of a challenge compared to the new FOTM. This is also an active MMO meaning you should expect changes to effect competitive areas.

Edit: As well I am not being a fan boy here. This could be the worst possible game in the world but the decision for what they did was not wrong but the right one. It has the most impact on the least amount of people. If they let you keep your ranks it would have negatively effected the leaderboards (that were created in that same patch) and the community as a whole. The majority of players were below lvl30 which is why the choose that number to revert to.

the leaderboards are already invalid, they realized they have nothing with which to currently measure players to begin with.

As far as the above 50 debate, it is primarily caused by anet never saying whether it was intended or not. Even after pages and pages of people asking within the first few weeks of fractals

FOTM is not harder to get to 50 now, its probably slightly easier, perhaps if they used a different system and people had to actually beat all the levels to raise their difficulty, but they dont. Before they scaled it in a semi cheesy way, but is was unquestionable harder and less forgiving. They built a better system(in some ways), but it is in fact easier than before. So really, the people who were at 50 had kind of already proven themselves. the net result really came down to being, get less rewards for 20 levels.

also rewards are not really better, they are actually worse, the biggest difference is they added a low chance of some specific items.

i think you may have made a mistake, they never actually made the leaderboards, and they still havent. Also reseting progress for leaderboards is bad idea. Fractals was never presented as a competitive format, it was supposed to be a dungeon you could work your way through that would get harder and harder as you beat it more, people essentially got the difficulty AND rewards they earned downgraded, to make it into a competitive format, when they havent even figured out a good way to make it competitive yet.

go look for the fractal leaderboards, you wont find any. Most likely once they do exist, they will have little to nothing to do with what difficulty scale you get up to, because that will always be capped, and if its capped everyone will get there eventually if they try

as for resetting people to 30 because thats what people were at, is kind of a slap in the face too, because its saying we dont care about you guys because you are the minority.

Just to be clear, i am not speaking for myself here, i was basically at like 29 when this happened, but it doesnt mean that it was good decisions, or communication on those decisions

Easier? The levels above 30 have extra challenges placed on them to make them more difficult. They also added Ascended Armour which means people have more AR, and they also have combinable infusions. As well people who have higher FOTM rewards did not lose any reward just their ability to reenter higher ranks of FOTM.

If they allowed you to keep your rank that is above 30. It hurts the leaderboards (FOTM leaderboards are still gaining data which is why you can’t see them https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/info/updates/Game-Update-Notes-November-26-2013)

They also introduced new rewards for 30+ and the 50+ rewards were also shifted down so basically they did not lose enough to even be considered a issue. As well being down to 30 is not a slap of the face when 30+ has new rewards and challenges.

Punished for not crafting?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Suddenflame.2601

Suddenflame.2601

Pro-tip..
1.) Ascended is not required and this ‘vertical progression’ is miniscule enough to be ignored without noticing any improvement
2.) You can get an ascended backpiece without any crafting (and if you use the Forge as an example of crafting, all you do is click buttons a few times and you get your backpiece)

To be competitive you need to be in the best gear possible. Equally skilled players in wvw will lose based on equipment.

Therefore you NEED ascended to be considered a competitive wvw player unless you are a insanely good commander or skilled. Even then being commander means you do not want to die so Ascended again is better than exotics.

Considering the end game is grind, pvp, or wvw…

In the controlled competitive environment of PvP, gear is normalized in order to level the field, which is as it should be in competitive PvP because that is a game. WvW is a hybrid concept that seeks to simulate a “war” and thus will never be “balanced” which means that arguments about gear imbalances are moot.

Obviously, having better gear gives you an advantage in WvW… and that is how it should be in a “war simulator” because war is never “fair”.

You do realise that this argument would also justify use of (now removed) consumables that allowed anyone to maintain stealth and spam kill shot equivalent damage from range of 1600? Your reasoning would also justify ddos attacks of voice coms, hacking, ressing through gates and having alts to spy and sabotage the other server (drain supply, force siege cap).

Except in war all those things do happen lol. This game is not a real war meaning the war is limited to WvW only. If your character could hack the other character via WvW then yes it would be allowed. Your character in WvW can’t create an alt to spy therefore it isn’t allowed. Your twisting the meaning of what is being said to disprove it when all your proving is that your capable of twisting the meaning. Also if said items were in the game then yes it would be fair (but as we all know we would be screaming at our screen in frustration saying “unfair!”). Anet prohibited those items without banning players meaning it wasn’t a exploit, but something they overlooked when designing the object.

But I can do all this ingame.

LOL i would love to see your character hop on a computer and hack your enemy communications while in WvW

Or into teamspeak…

That’s not your character doing it. That’s you doing it, and it should not be permitted.

You clearly use the “war isn’t fair” only when it suits to you:
I’m not allowed to hack voicecoms because my character isn’t doing it while i am allowed to join the voicecoms, even though my character has nothing to do with that either.

Not when it suits me. me being one-shotted from 1600 range by an invisible person doesn’t suit me one bit. As I stated if your character is able to do it than its allowed. Its because your character is in war but you are not. Voice communication is not supported by GW2 but people use it to help them play and for fun. But it exists in the real world meaning you must abide by the rules of the real world. Breaking the rules means you face the consequences whatever they may be.

Hacking into someone else or performing hacking would interest the police, but not some invisible dude sniping you from 1600 range in a video game. Seperate Reality from the virtual.

Wasn’t this thread about crafting…or something?

Not about crafting but another flame thread about ascended armour being behind crafting even though it does drop ingame (very rarely tho). So same thread as about another 100 threads (probably more) out there.

But all this except hacking is doneable in game. You can change servers to sabotage, ressing through doors have been there since day #1.

Changeing servers is costly and why do it? Cause you have to change servers twice which costs you large amounts of money. Rezing through doors i have nothing against since the person on the other side can still get hit with AOE (if they standing that close to door with that much AOE around they would go down really faster.

I agree to an extent.

War ‘unfairness’ is very often offset by diffirences in technology, culture, training, stratergy of generals/command. In this case it’s not really true because much of the above are not present in any meaningful way.

Well there is a difference in technology (Ascended vs exotic), culture (international game), training (skill gained from playing the game), and strategy of generals/command.

Out of what you listed only the strategy of generals/command doesn’t exist unless the players allow it. There is a few good general/commanders out there. I so far gotten a good track record of whenever i been in command have captured everything I have set out to capture (not saying much since that’s only been 15 times in over a year). There have been great commanders if only the followers actually listened to the command being given. As well there is not enough tools in the game to allow proper command.

Such as they should allow parties to join the commander and the commander to know the parties within his command. That way he can use the map and place locations where the parties are meant to go. I got a few ideas of what they could add to make commanding easier but thats far off topic.

No that is not a diffirence in technology. The technology of every server or world is excatly the same. No world has tanks and another has aircraft. They all have excatly the same objects/items.

Commanders honestly most do nothing but serve as a draw for everyone to move to and then zerg around. Stratergy in this game is quite honestly at a bare minimum. You can easily set out to capture everything you want if you went on at a non-peak time on a server with no coverage.

JQ is always on! (thats who i took those towers and keeps from and 1 castle). I seen more done than that with the zerg but with limited tools its hard to do more. Unlike modern world where all the cities are joined think of GW2 similar to medival Japan. Where each player is a different clan bringing their own technology to the unified group without giving it to the group.

In a war you could have the best equipment and outnumber your enemy 10:1 and still lose (has happened many times in history). Tactics will always win over equipment and numbers. Sure better equipment and numbers would help but if your outplayed your just plain outplayed.

Anyone know software available so I can set my mouse to press keystrokes? I’m not buying a 60$ mouse to play this game I’ll just buy ESO and call it a day. I would like to assign my LMB to press number 1 when I use it and vice versa I would like to press 1 and it would emulate my LMB.

I’m curious as to how you think this would improve your QoL while playing. I mean, your inventory management would be horrendously difficult. Have fun salvaging, moving items, clicking text boxes in the TP/chat, adjusting any options in the settings. Also, were you planning on only ever tab-targeting instead of click targeting, ‘cause I think you’d end up running into the same issues while fighting a thief/mesmer with lots of stealth when you need to retarget them quickly as they pop in/out of stealth.

Try binding skill 1 to [Space] and you can spam it with your thumb while doing whatever else you want wrt moving/strafing/jumping (rebind jump to [Shift] or [Alt])

This is why you want LMB to be the LMB and not the 1 key. Sure he could technically do it but it would be horrible experience more so than just clicking 1 when he needs to lol. I am not sure he knows that there is an autoattack funtion on 1 and that he doesn’t need to keep pressing it.

This is not a topic about wanting Guild Halls, but rather what should be in the Guild Halls. Such as in GW1 there was very little to do in the Halls expect for 1v1 against friends and guildmates. It was extremely narrowed and was usually only used for 1v1 and quick access to merchants and special gear. What should be added to Guild Halls that would make them more exciting in GW2? Basically, what would you want to see in a Guild Hall?

I will try to keep a list of constructive ideas.

You still haven’t stated what your one skill that your using is. I have no problem at all using my skills and controlling my movement. This is sounding more of a L2P issue rather than simplified controls issue. You can not change the bindings on the 2 mouse buttons because they are necessary buttons to play this game. Holding your right mouse button down allows you to control your movement and activate skills.

As well out of the all the games you mentioned movement is not as necessary as it is in GW2. In GW2 if you standstill your dead especially in WvW and PVP. In the games you mentioned movement is helpful in reducing damage taken but is not a necessary component to learn at the start.

When GW2 was in beta and just released the biggest learning curve people had to overcome from other games is that you couldn’t stand still and take all the hits from the enemy (in any game mode). You just don’t stand there while a wolf hits you (especially if your a zerker).

Take a lesson from ESO, Tera, DCUO, Darkfall. These games have mouse based combat and allow the user full control of the character while letting them spam abilities without being hindered. WOW, Rift, SWTOR all have the ability to use nothing but the keyboard and have full control over your character. This game fails at this by not allowing you to customize your mouse buttons. Again I ask the question how do I use the 1 skill and get full movement? Since I enjoy pvp I need to be constantly using this skill and its just not worth playing this game like this.

All of them you mentioned are using a different style of combat system. Your comparing apples to oranges here. WoW is a probability combat system which means you could play it without a mouse. Aion is also a probability combat system so you can play it without a mouse. Rift based on videoes on youtube (since i never played it) is also a probability system. Tera based on videos on youtube (since i never played it as well) is also having elements of a probability system.

The only game that has a similar combat system from what I seen in videos is Wildstar. So if you haven’t played that one you can’t really compare.

I first started this game using nothing but my keyboard for pvp. Well that worked great until I wanted to turn around. When you try to turn with a keyboard you look like a one legged kitten it takes forever, yet in a full run if you use a mouse then you can turn on a dime. The problem I am having is when I want to use my mouse I cannot find an appropriate button for my 1 skill that will allow me full control of my movement and the ability to use the skill at the same time. I’ve come to the conclusion that this game has the most elementary control system and needs an update bad. Of all the mmo’s on the market this problem only exists here.

Your 1 skill?

Out of 99% of the MMO’s out there GW2 is one of the few that uses an active combat system compared to a probability combat system. So you can’t really compare them.

Like people have said: There is an about-face action that you can bind.

Using just your keyboard would handicap yourself drastically especially in PVP. Mouse and Keyboard is standard as it makes it easier to select targets and selecting skills to combo. Having both keys on the keyboard will allow you to press all the skills but at the same you lose mobility.

There is no way to fix this on an active combat game. Try playing a shooter on the computer without a mouse or gamepad. Both are using active combat systems.

If you do not know what I mean by active combat system it is a system where accuracy and damage migration is determined by the players rather than a probability system. Basically, the degree in which you get hit is based on your actions rather than what is determined outside of your power.

I think you guys are missing the point of FTOM.

FTOM 1-9 can be done without any ascended as intended
FOTM 10+ needs ascended as intended.

FTOM 1-9 has identical content as 10+ but with different challenged.

FOTM 10+ was designed for ascended and infusions in mind. No other part of the game requires ascended or infusions.

The content of FOTM 10+ is exactly the same as FOTM 1-9 but with different challenges and rewards. The content is the exact same (the levels are the exact same with the exact same enemies therefore the content is the exact same).

Since all content can be done without ascended than Ascended is a want not a need. You do not need Ascended to complete content X, but you want Ascended to complete content X cooler (horizontal progression) or better (vertical progression).

I wont deny that Ascended is the better stat wise than exotic cause that would be a pointless argument.

Vertical Progression is not dreadful unless its a gear treadmill which by the way this isn’t for they stated it will be the final tier.

As well to the comments about Anet lying. Anet is in a similar situation to when an individual person has to make a hard choice between what they said but have to do. Ascended was added because of the high demand from people complaining about the grind to Legendary from Exotic. Legendary at that time was meant to take years to achieve to get (Long term goal). People were trying to get their legendary in just a few months after release. Ascended was a rushed release at the same time of the failed Karka invasion event (lag fest). So when it first appeared it was in limited locations and the person who did it made an official apology on the forums for it.

They have been working on fixing it ever sense without making it easy to obtain which is against the reason why they designed it. Ascended is a middle-term goal rather than a longer-term goal. It will take you months to get ascended compared to years that Legendary was intended to be. Right now you guys are complaining about the length of time it takes to get Ascended which is its intended length of time.

My long-term goal is to outfit my 10 characters with full ascended gear. Is this goal achievable? Yes it is. Basic calculations say its achievable in less than 5years. It takes only a few months to outfit a single character which to me is not much.

As a mesmer, I have to disagree. Love my skill effects, though I wouldn’t be against making them even better.

as a warrior i would like to complain about my stale skill effects. Thank you for reading.

No offense, but you probably should of thought about that before you chose the most generic class in MMOs. How cool can hitting something with a club look?

no contact skills look like gw2. In contact theres added effects.

Its not hard to put blood or other various effects upon hit. Even the bow skills look lame. It may be generic but a lot of games have put effects in to every class. Instead of leaving one out because ‘’its so generic bro’’

This one has done it right too(turn off music unless you like overused songs)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vRh6Ai79lI0

The problem i see is that your trying to compare completely different art styles with your youtube videos. Such as :https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vRh6Ai79lI0 your trying to point out the use of lights on every attack. Those light effects take a lot especially to make them work well with the art design.

If you cared to notice the game shown has poor environmental detail and more on the players. GW2 has far more detail in the environment and in your character rendering than that game.

Those are unneeded effects that do not convey any information and would cause a lot more issues in this game compared to those games. That game is using a standard static combat where the dodging and block are up to probability. GW2 is a dynamic combat game and like other dynamic combat games do not have flashy graphics on every skill as it places unnecessary work on the servers/client. As well it would make combat harder to view as your closer to the battle.

If you noticed in the video the camera is all the way back and above the character. This allows less distraction from flashy skills, and you don’t need to be aware of when to dodge since it is tied to a probability. GW2 you need to know when to dodge but if all you can see if a big flashy skill that you cast than you are just killing yourself.

Skills are plain in this game to reduce system load and to make attacks obvious. As well spell effects on skills are limited to the weapons rather than the skills.

Skills are plain for only those classes made to be plane. Engis can light up the world along with guards. Gotta tell ppl to not use flashy attacks sometimes because you cant even see what you’re trying to hit.

Some classes have overly thrown effects where others have none.

As for that game its pretty old and it dosen’t share the same art style of gw2, but gw2 isnt full realistic. It’s half and half. Because of the effects on all the classes have flashy things.

Warrior has the least. Theif comes before war and so on. Even thief has attacks with effects. I mean if a warrior can throw a sword thats almost as big as him. You might want to put some effects on that or it looks silly. The trail effects on every warrior skill are the most lazily done.

Im not here to argue or anything but sure effects aren’t needed because they don’t fit gw2s art style. Which is why the other classes shouldn’t have over the top effects if not all classes can get em.

Keep it fair or leave it to no where.

Engis are caused by gunpowder from their weapons and are gunpowder based so most of their effects are explosions. That’s their effect. All of them are explained by that.

Thieves are caused by flashes and smoke. Their effects are trying to show that they are quick and deadly and showing evasion.

Guardian is a magic based heavy class. All their effects come from magic. This is the same with mesmer, necro, and ele.

Warrior and Ranger do not have any magic and are the only classes that technically use real physical attacks with no magic backing. What possible effect can you develop which shows a normal attack? When Warrior fires his rifle he gets the same effect as an Engi firing his just because they are both explosive effects. Ranger gets effects by applying conditions to his arrows.

Also your comment about blood. There is no blood in this game to reduce the rating so they won’t add it. Also, your being hit with a plain arrow or being hit with a plain axe. There isn’t really any realistic effects you can add that does not take a large amount of processing power to accomplish.

GS/sword auto melee. Blood. Pistol shots. Blood. Shoot a door with a rifle or pistol. Blood idk why.

Really? I been hit by GS/sword auto attacks, shot by pistols and there was no blood. My character flinches but no blood comes out. Even looking at youtube videos there is no blood from any of those.

Get rid of Loot as rewards

You may not have any use for that loot, but other people do.

The beauty of a free market.

- This economy is brilliant for the diverse world we live in. But GW2 world with its loot tables is not so diverse. If you’re playing level 80 character, you get the kind of loot every person playing level 80 character gets. What you value is pretty much the same every player who is playing the game values, which is why the economy is so dull.

Let me illustrate this with an example:
Bolts of Silk (BoS). Every ascended armor requires lots of Bolts of Silk to craft. Tailor 3.6k BoS, Leatherworker 2.4k BoS and armorsmith 2.5k BoS. So everyone places high value on Bolts of Silk, which then affects the value of items that salvage into Bolts of Silk. Suppose you didn’t care about ascended armor. What logically follows is that wouldn’t care about the whole item system in the first place. It’s not like you pick up some piece of equipment to wear it. There’s nothing in the item system but the single-minded purpose of affecting the killing speed and survival of your character. It’s not about resource management.

This wasn’t always the case. Loot used to be bound the area but than people complained so not long after launch it got bound the level of your character. Before you could only get silk and other material from Orr (only lvl80 place) which is why it was farmed so much. Only exception was chests which dropped loot based on your level.

[Suggestion] Player Controlled World Bosses

This may be a cool idea for a WvW Boss. Besides that…it wouldn’t work out.

I was thinking for Shatterer, Claw of Jormag and others as they need something to make them more challenging and fun rather than stand on point B and attack. A player controlling would be better than currently.

Upgrading AI takes a lot of work and would put more load on the servers.

Another possible idea is to have unique rewards tied to reward tiers for killing people. Meaning the person who is controlling the world boss would want to kill as many people as possible to get said unique reward.

Such as if playing Shatterer and you manage to kill lets say 100 people (random number not sure how many people for this type of reward) a unique weapon skin: Weapon made out of Shatterer crystals.

“I’d pay 2k Gems to be able to plays as Cobalt. I would then let people kill me, and charge a nominal fee for the free kill.”

This is an example of how things can go wrong with this idea.

That would be considered an AFK kill meaning they would get punished for it.

Also Cobalt is a weapon not a world boss
