The thing with you, is you only quote and answer what you want to. But I have gave you other examples of CORPG’s to which you have said nothing, and using your definition and logic pointed out other games which meet your criteria and asked you if they too were considered MMO’s and have still yet to hear your take on said subject. You rebuttlas are aimed at everything but the point I am making.

I have directly addressed your point. I did it in the first post, before you even started.

I have stated what qualifies an MMO. Do the titles you list meet those qualifications? If so, they would be considered to be MMOs.

You seem to be operating under the mistaken impression that I’m employing some sort of personal definition. I’m not.

As to your CORPG title examples, I simply missed them the first time, so sorry for that. First of all, that’s not a list. If I’m not mistaken, that’s two titles from one franchise. And it’s apparently just your personal assessment. Let me be clearer: provide an actual list from a source that recognizes the CORPG label as a distinct genre in the industry.

The game is not an MMO, GW1 players who have played MMO’s will tell you the same.

Again, this has been addressed and countered already. Repeating it doesn’t make it anymore true or relevant.

If you look up those games on those sites that you provided i bet you they are not labeled under MMO even tho they fit the defination that your describing. Which means the industry standard for defining MMO’s is either wrong or are using something else to define it that you are not aware of it. Either case your examples provided by the website are no longer valid for an axiom of logic is broken.

GW1 has a split persistent world where the Towns and overall game is persistent but the towns make up about 1% of the entire game (as shown by the exploring percentage which does not include Abaddons Realm). The trouble comes into play of what is the persistent world part referring to. If it is referring to the overall community and trading along with servers being up all the time then yes you would be correct. But if it is referring to the entire world being persistent and existing if your not online then it only holds for 1% of the entire game by logical standing does not make it persistent. But if i were to bring in other games such as Diablo 2 and Diablo 3 which by the sites you provided and along with Blizzard team statements are shown not be MMO. But the community and trading do keep going even after you logged off. So using persistent world in this since is still not applicable due to those games not being an MMO. Diablo 2 and Diablo 3 share many qualities the same to GW1 but in Diablo2 you are able to meet hundreds of people within that combat zone but yet it is not a MMO based on the sites you provided.

I can keep going with all the evidence that you provided and point out all logical errors your making. I will also state that MMO is still a broad term that they are working on defining therefor it will defer on site and a persons opinion. To use someone else’s opinion as a fact is a logical error that you are making

Dude your over reacting on the Ascended gear part there is only 2 pieces (3 if you count 2 rings). I bet you i could still kick your kitten even if you had Ascended gear while i am wearing my full exotic gear. The stat boast isnt that high to be a concern. Learn to play your class and you can kill people who are lvl80 with full exotics even if your not lvl80. Skill > Gear. SO if you dont have skill stop whinning about the gear.

Sorry but you’re just misinformed. Fine infusions already bring the stat difference to about 13%. If you are so good why are you wearing exotic gear in the first place? Surely you can get by with basic.

There is no information in the link about fine infusions or them giving 13% increase sorry you been misinformed. Plus the ring is unique meaning you can only wear 1 of them not 2. Also whats the stat difference between a full exotic lvl80 and a blue wearing lvl30 in WvW? I bet you much much more then 13% but yet if the lvl80 has no skill and the lvl30 does i would have my bets placed on the lvl30 just cause Gear < Skill. Learn to Play. And Yes i used to play WvW with basic armour cause i have skill. If i die in WvW its either my mistake and learn from it or the guy was just better then me. At this point in the game i can take 2 lvl80 thieves and still win unless of course the thief is just better then me which is rare cause they all think going invisible and running around is going to save their little kittens.

I have skill. It disgusts me that I can destroy people in WvW so easily already with exotic glass cannon gear, on a Necromancer no less. This will make the problem increase. But hey, its not like I’m the only person saying this.

its 5 point per MINOR STAT, BEFORE infusion. Theres also the GLARING issue of % increase for berserker gear. 1 RING = 2% difference in crit damage.

As a said before there has been no showing whatsoever about infusions that do stat increases the only infusions ever shown so far have been 5% def against agony. 5 points per 2 minor stats not all of them just 2 which is hardly anything considering that will get you what +1 in attack damage whoopie! i can kill them 1 hit point per hit more.

So, the title of this thread is “Fractal of the Mists destroyed PvE,” but none of the things you listed is PvE. WvW is not PvE (it’s WvW). FotM is not technically the PvE world…it’s a dungeon.

So, how again did it kill PvE?

very good question i don’t see how it did considering it actually helped it by bringing people back. Also it so far hasn’t hurt any form of the PVE world other then pulled all the farmers from Orr (they annoyed me so much!) and also in the same patch they buffed all the other dungeons drops. So all dungeons are still played even more so now.

Also if 5 points of power and 5 points of precision is a 13% stat increase your math is wrong by far. Also have to consider when you do the calculation the lose. since attack power ratio and power ratio is not 1:1 nor is precision. So 1 power is not equal to +1 to attack. So in the end it has little to no effect. The only plus they have advantage with is 6% magic find increase which doesnt affect your stats and i agree with that stat being higher considering if your only going for ascended gear then your going to need money. Also lowers the cost of exotics and rares on the market which is needed.

Also on a seperate note then the dungeon is doing its job that they designed it to do. They designed it for an easier way to get legendaries go figure right you didnt see that one coming did ya now!

I am not an animal..
However I have been chasing Amy for quite a while…..

They changed the core principle – you can agree or disagree with it.
If you disagree with it and made your voice heard there is one last way for a corporation to hear a complaint. The bottom line – I will be doing this shortly.

They havent even stated why they made the change. I would have had more respect for them had they said
We have changed the direction – for those who dont like it there is a handy little red X in the corner – use it.
Nothing so I hope in the end OP you get what you want but corporations speak one language $.

Umm dude they did say why the made the change lol. You missed the memo lol. The reason why they made the change was cause of the “Legendary Wall”. No character Progression and people were leaving the game cause they felt like there was nothing left to do. So they made a way for there to be a constant character progression through the use of the dungeon and agony. You got to keep up with the memos before making comments like this.

I feel that Guild Wars 2 has some fundamental flaws

Reading through this entire post i disagree with you on many regards.

One I happen to love underwater combat and its one of my strongest combat styles and I play a lot of WvW so i make use of my underwater ability to get an advantage over my enemy.

I am a full exotic lvl80 and i still go back to queensdale quite often just cause i like it there also more events that restart faster then any where else (including Orr).

I happen to like switching my roles between DPS, Support, Control so who needs a defined role when you can choose what you like with any profession?

Also reading over all the rest EVERY MMO and RPG has those “Flaws” when it comes to lvls uninteresting combat ect. Find me 1 popular MMO or RPG that doesnt have a lvl system in it? Built around dodging is better then standing around smashing buttons and hope that a RNG saves you when you need it. And your comment about Loot is “flaw” to all RPG games in existence and all use it so if its a flaw i like to see you design a game without it and see how it goes.

From what i read you want a game that doesnt have lvls and doesnt have loot rarity meaning your Max lvl to start and have all Max stat weapons to start…. i dont see how a game like that would last. Even COD doesn’t just give you everything to start with.

Your Comment about Monsters in dungeons as well find me one game where the enemy has interesting Mechanics that doesn’t repeat itself. Hell i own over 300 video games of various different types and none have what your asking cause it doesn’t exist! The flaws your stating exist not only here but everywhere in every game! So bringing it up and blaming GW2 for it is not very constructive. WoW has all these flaws expect the few cases I brought out and talked directly about above. No enemy in WoW has interesting mechanics or skills they are all predictable and unlike GW2 you have to rely on RNG for your dodging of that predictable skill. There is less skill and more luck involved in that game.

Dynamic Events sure turn into a zerg fest but least they are trying something different then every other RPG and MMORPG out there. I seen world events in other games and guess what its a giant zerg fest as well go figure.

Rather then saying there flaws in GW2 its more accurate to say its a flaw in the entire MMO genre. So if you can come up with a way to fix the entire Genre by making a exciting game without any of these flaws I say go for it but as noted the game has to be exciting to the majority and not just 1 person.

The new dungeon is not out, the new gear is not available. WAIT to see how they managed this, and then take conclussions.

Not much different than rare versus exotic. Yes, you’ll have to grind—but not much. It’s still not a lengthy gear treadmill like in other games. It’s a very short gear treadmill, and even then, you can still play in top notch PvP without the ascended gear—just not the Fractals dungeon.

Are you kidding me? Most are estimating about 90hrs of Fractal grind for ONE PIECE. I’m being modest and estimating~70hrs.

What part of this is NOT a grind and NOT a gear treadmill? They are definitely adding more ascended items and more content with higher agony requirements. That is 1 thing they have NOT been vague about.

And just so you know, a full ascended trinket/weapon/armor set wil give you up to 40% more to a stat then the exotic counterpart. This is true eve if you keep your normal exo armor for the rune bonuses…

And this isn’t counting the higher-rarity infusions that are not yet out – the blue quality infusions have +5 to stats, +5 to agony, rare/exo/asc versions of infusions will probably have at least 20 to that same stat. In which case, the modest estimate of up to 40% will grow to up to 75%.

Meant to say PvE, but the point stands. You’ll still be able to do all of the old PvE content with exotics (like we already do). But more than that, how are people making estimates before it’s out? Do they know exactly how much it’ll require, and how you gain the stuff to make it? Can you give me a link to see where you got this information?

Thank you for the link, that’s very interesting. I’m now very, very worried. But, there is one thing that we need to keep in mind. Internal testing is for testing bugs/balance, these things could be dramatically different when they’re launched. Let’s all get angry after it’s launched if it turns out to be insanely hard to get. Let’s not jump the gun.

Dude you need to know how code works. I could put code into the game and find an item that was there during testing or was scrapped but the code left behind. For all we know they put the code in but didn’t take it out. I can pull out a thousand games where this happened such as the Up, Down, Left, Right….. you should get the point. As well you have to consider how many items are there in game? And how many items can i make with code? I bet you i could find hundreds of items that never existed in game and were thought to have been deleted.

edit: Also the items in the link are not the same items linked and shown by Anet. Look at the Yak Ring and compare it to the one that Anet showed us. Notice the difference.

\o/ I told you all that the weapon skins and more and minis would be in chests like in halloween and only available to either people with lots of gold (farmers, exploiters, botters typically) or a large disposable income. They simply made a new chest and renamed it. Now we won’t even have direct purchase from gem store minis like we did with the halloween event. They are putting MORE eggs in the black lion.. gambling basket? And its all because everyone was like “chill down, things will be ok.”

Noone, believed me and people called me a liar.

Yay I looked at the patch notes today and I feel like a winner, well.. I mean.. none of us win. At least I was right all along though..

Actually your still wrong in consideration that the new chest is only here for a limited time and will be gone from the black lion trading company soon. And your not forced to buy them you buy them if you want to but your not forced to. Also there is no gear trend mill only peoples speculation of one without any real evidence that one exists. So using Logical progression your still wrong for you have no axioms to support all of what you said and are assuming will happen.

I can go through all the professions and tell you where your trying to force the trinity when there is no need for one.

You are missing the point entirely. If you are gonna enforce a gear grind into this game when one is not needed, might as well bring the trinity back as well.

False. Go read the blog post. Legendary is being bumped up to ascended level stats. So Legendary=Ascended which is superior to exotics. So the new end level gear is Ascended gear. And like I keep saying and you pro-ascended people keep ignoring, this is just the BEGINNING. It’s only going to get worse. People will gear out on this stuff and Anet will put out yet another tier and so on and so on. Plus they said infusions would make gear stronger. We still don’t know exactly how. These could more than make up any loss of stats on the ascended gear.

People are outraged because Anet said they wouldn’t do this and now they are. This is a gear treadmill. Doesn’t matter if it’s starting out “small”. It’s there and it’s going to only get worse. End level gear was supposed to be accessible and equally powerful to the rarer prestige type gear. Now that’s not the case. Ascended gear is stuck in dungeons and not accessible. And we weren’t supposed to have to worry about this. You were supposed to be able to take a break and come back and not worry about having to gear up. That was a main draw for many of us.

Ascended gear was never stated to be only given out from the dungeon its where they said it would appear first never stated thats where its only going to be found. They were going to add more locations to gain it from later on. Really dude should pay more attention to wording then assuming things. As well your assuming they are going to keep adding more armour tiers when they said they would rather save such things for expansions (which they did do in GW1) the only reason why they are doing this now is cause of the “Legendary Wall” that people are facing and feel like their characters are not progressing.

Its not a gear trendmill guys really. The gear is fitting in right between Exotic and Legendary. The goal of this was due to the “Legendary wall” that people kept smashing their faces into. There was such a gap between Legendary and Exotic it was a hindsight by Anet. They didnt think people would hit the wall as fast as they did so they are adding the new tier to relieve some of the tension and make people believe that they are progressing. The armour (when it comes out) will be less useful then exotics in PVP and WvW due to the lack of status effects other then defending against agony which is a PVE only condition. So whats the problem with them fixing a design mistake they made when making the tiers. Whats the difference if they had added the tier before launch? And its not a gear trendmill for the people who have legendary already cause they already have the top gear. A gear trendmill suggests a even stronger tier then the top tier already. Which isnt true considering Legendary is still the top tier.

While I can understand that in hindsight they might go “Oops! Too big a gap!” But was there really no other better way that would have decreased that gap without the introduction of new gear with higher stats? Couldn’t it have just been new gear? Why raise the stats of legendaries if it’s just supposed to be a gap filler? Also how many more gap fillers are we going to get? Why does the journal allude to several ‘levels’ if it’s just one level?

Do you see where this is going? Because Anet went back on their words why should we believe them now?

Well what would you suggest is a better gap filler? The power of legendaries had to go up cause they were on par with exotics but were 300 times harder to get then exotics to the point it could take years. It alludes to several levels of infusions not ascended armour (there is 4 levels of ascended armour stated already and that is all there is going to be). There is going to multilevel of infusions much the same as there is multilevels of infusions. And if they added new gear that was just cosmetic would you have really gone for them? or would you have just choosen the one type and not cared about the new armour? Legendaries now have to be on par with ascended gear rather then exotic.

Its not a gear trendmill guys really. The gear is fitting in right between Exotic and Legendary. The goal of this was due to the “Legendary wall” that people kept smashing their faces into. There was such a gap between Legendary and Exotic it was a hindsight by Anet. They didnt think people would hit the wall as fast as they did so they are adding the new tier to relieve some of the tension and make people believe that they are progressing. The armour (when it comes out) will be less useful then exotics in PVP and WvW due to the lack of status effects other then defending against agony which is a PVE only condition. So whats the problem with them fixing a design mistake they made when making the tiers. Whats the difference if they had added the tier before launch? And its not a gear trendmill for the people who have legendary already cause they already have the top gear. A gear trendmill suggests a even stronger tier then the top tier already. Which isnt true considering Legendary is still the top tier.

I’m sorry, but this alludes to a treadmill:
“This is just the beginning. In November, we’re only adding the first level of Infusions and Ascended Rings and Back slots, so that leaves us a lot of room to build upon these levels of Item progression in future content.”

It does not allude to a trendmill if you keep it in context. In context they are adding more infusions in the future as stated which is the future content. Therefor ascended is the item being built upon not the entire item tier. If you remove anything from the context it can allude to something else. Keep things in context and they wont. There will be future levels of infusions which allows them a lot of room to build upon the infusions levels of item progression in future content. There i filled in your ambigious quote with the intended message. Some trend mill isnt it when they only thing your getting from it is just better infusions which are only good for pve.

The merged thread has 5k responses to it. That’s the biggest thread in the history of GW2. Almost all of it negative. That’s not whining; that’s complete outrage.

complete outrage from failing to understand what is going on. in my above post i stated why they are doing this and people are just calling it a gear trendmill when it isnt. Its 1 tier above exotic and 1 tier below legendary. Trendmill requires that the new gear be stronger then the previous to ensure people have to work for it for Future content. When the armour in the future is released it wont be as strong as Exotic armour in many regards such as Melandru armour dropping condition duration by 35% and stun by 15% while giving a huge boost to toughness. Ascended armour wont be able to hold the runes making them weaker in many regards espically if your trying for a specific build. As well Agony is only in PVE which means the armour with infusions would be pretty useless in WvW compared to a person with a runed out exotic. With them specifically stating that Legendaries will be buffed at the same time ascended comes out to match with the stats of ascended items.

hell why not lets just NGE this game!

A warrior is just not a tank its how they spec decides if its a tanky person. Such as there is DPS warrior, control warriors which just stun lock you, and there is support warriors who use banners and shouts to support the team.

I can go through all the professions and tell you where your trying to force the trinity when there is no need for one.

Necro can spec for tanky and be a kitten good one at that. My ranger is speced for control meaning i control the “hate” of the boss and enemies so that i become the center of focus. Dude the trinity in this game as Anet has stated time and time again is DPS/control/support. Cause guess what i bet you my support warrior would heal more people then a DPS guardian. Everyone can play every role some better then others but all can do it with efficiency. Such as the water ele example. Is heavy support and control but too lack of damage.
Control: Control falls into controlling the hate and using conditions and stuns to ensure the enemy doesn’t kill your teammates.
DPS: focuses purely on damage output and is squishy as hell no matter what profession you are
Support: provides minor healing and boons to the team. (Guardians are the best class for this where as Thieves are the worst).

Thieves by this true trinity in GW2 means that Thieves are great at 2 roles and kinda poor at 1. A Thief is great at controlling the flow of the battle using invisiblity to engage and disengage as well preventing their teammates from being chased. They are also good at throwing conditions such as stun and blind to ensure less damage on themselves and others. THey are great DPS as well.

I can really really go indepth about each profession and how much you are wrong about them and trying to fit them into the wrong trinity which if put into that trinity context There is no tank and no healers leaving everyone a DPS. Cause no warrior can just stand there and take it from a dungeon boss no matter how speced they are. No one is able to singly heal a player from near death to full hp without the use of healing skill on the character. Which leaves only DPS left in that triangle. You can try to force the old triangle in if you want but it is in a completely wrong context and you have severly bend its rules just to make it work.

I didn’t know you can equip runes on a ring.

For future ascended gears such as armour. So in this case it would be a jeweled Orb.

I still think we’re missing some info:

  • Will Ascended armour be upgradable with Runes? If not, increased stats make sense (to bring it on par with runes, and to make up for the lack of bonuses). If this is the case, then Exotics may yet still be the best for WvW (I mean, what would you rather have: that bit of extra power of that bonus that fits your playstyle?).

So the base stats of ascended items will be slightly better than exotics + upgrade slots and they get the infusion slot.

You sir are still incorrect cause they never stated which rune and i doubt they would throw +150 of 1 stat on to a single item. and link the source cause i have not read a single spot where they said they built the functionality of a rune into the armour.

So techincally is lower then exotic in regards for the lose of the slot. It maybe slightly stronger on base stats but i doubt they made them high enough to overcome the stat boasts that a rune would provide.

It could be but i doubt it for whats the point of putting in a new element if it is just like a rune? There is something far more different about infusion that they had to make an entire armour tier for and new element of being placed. Also stated (in one of the 2 articles) that not all ascended armour has the slot making the slot even rarer. Something is different that it doesnt boast stats (as that can be done by runes or other things) it has to boast something else or do something else that can not be done by other means.

Far as we know Ascended Armour is only slightly stronger, but allow to be infused. But we dont know if the infusion slot takes away from its rune slot and if it does then it effectly makes it weaker then exotics unless it gets its boast of being slightly stronger. Large number of people are assuming too much. We have no clue what infusion does yet and if it increases our damage at all. Far as we know infusion from GW1 protected us from some really nasty damage from Spectural agony which is only 1 skill. So ascended armour is probably only stronger then exotic to counter the side effect of not being able to hold a rune or orb.

Ok we dont have Legendary armour yet and ascended armour is a new tier with the same idea of infusing. By the sounds of the new enemy and future enemies we will have to use different infusions just to hurt them. Such as mursaat we had to be infused just to fight them without dying. These new guys sounds like we need to figure out how to hurt them and being infused helps us with that. We dont know fully how the ascended armour works. For instance they could be the only armour that allows infusion but at the cost of runes or orbs not being placed in them. So if they are not able to have the extra effects they need the boost just be in the same league of exotics.

What has occurred is a multistage ban (from what i read there was a glitch as well on friday that banned some people). They also banned a large number of people who recieved massive bot reports from people. So if you were banned people in mass numbers reported you (or you were hit by the glitch). They reversed the glitch i read. So if you are having issues logging in still then you were accussed by many people of botting.

all rare drops have decreased in the last patch, including lodestones, weapons, and armor. i think it’s hard enough making gold off farming events already. now that things like precursers cost 400 gold each. it’s impossible obtaining one without luck or any other exotic off the market. how do you guys feel about this?

It’s not a bug. I believe that anything that hits 1 person then another gains dmg for every person it hits. The skills that do this should clearly indicate this. So for all the dumdums this isnt a bug. Ive hit 2-7k on bladetrails when it goes through many ppl.

You really didnt look at the pictures did you? Big difference between 2-7k and 20k+ worth of damage. 20k of damage is way to high for 1 hit. It is a bug.

I never use my adreline skill cause i have the Adrenal Health trait and Adreline damage trait and i did the math and it is worse off if i use the adreline skill cause i would do less damage in the long run and die sooner.

I use the multiguild system as it allows me to get more people together for dungeon runs. I dont have many friends who can play often as i do so i rely on PUGS or fellow guild mates to help me through dungeons. If one of my guilds doesnt have anyone wanting or very limited number of people wanting I switch to the other guild and see if anyone there wants to do the dungeon. With 4 guilds in the roster (they are considering allowing more i hear) i can make a group using guild mates even though they are from different guilds. I then represent the guild i have most people in my party. I always have a main guild that i switch back to afterwards since that main guild will have the most interesting convos.

I find majority of thieves will not follow my warrior into water cause they know they wont win that fight. Thieves also have terrible ranged and all their ranged skills are predictable and easily beaten.

It does affect inspiring battle standard and healing signet. Inspiring battle standard produces a regen which affects it. Healing signet is a healing skill and is affected by healing power

Doing dungeon runs for AC and CM explore are quite lucrative and also give you tokens for your toons. Also you have a chance to get rares and exotics in the chests. (more likely to get blues and masterworks but oh well they add to the money)

Traits: 10 power/condition duration , 30 toughness/healing, 30 vit
Weapons: axe/shield, rifle
Armour: Exotic Ascalon armour (with power, toughness, vit)
Utility Skills: Banner of Tactics, “For Great Justice”, “Shake it off”, Signet of Rage

The goal of the build is to withstand as much damage as possible. Also in the traits make it so your banner CD reduced and produce regen so you can get perma regen. Also make it so your Shield CD is lower and maximize toughness as much as possible. Use the adreline levels for regen (trait) and increased damage (trait). Which also means not using your adreline skill but oh well you will do more damage overall by not using it.

@Gallian If they gave me that power i would use it wisely and double check and warn each person before banning them. (give them time to respond with a human message by asking unexpectable equestions). I also would do it for free cause it would be fun literally i would do it for free and wouldnt abuse the power cause it would be fun to ban bots espically if it came with a cool special effect

um dude you just got used to the RNG in FPS you didnt compensate for it or anything you just ignore the fact its there in plain sight. And find the link for what you believe cause i see more people saying that they are dropped in Orr also found in Chests in Orr. ( I looked in many forums). And 400hrs without a single Exotic? Im got 150hrs and had over 6 exotics dropped. I either sold them on the TP or salavaged them for their runes. I would have way over 400hrs but i fell sick and couldnt play for awhile

Dude you can get a crap ton of badges by standing on a keep wall and spamming AoE down on attackers while they throw themselves at your keep doors. I have done it many many times. I have even tested it out.

I gained far more badges per hour by using a AoE weapon and defending towers/keeps then by attacking a keep/tower. In fact you get more of everything by defending then attacking. Not to mention it is easier to defend a keep/tower then take one.

I am aware of that but your missing the point. The people throwing themselves at the keep have no skill. I fought a team in WvW that didnt even get close to the keep doors and just used catapults to destroy the doors. Your AOE trick fails hard against a competite team.
