Final Rest - Current Theories

What about the “Forsaken Halls” mini-dungeon? I’m fairly certain it takes place in a dwarven tomb and that it spawns a “unique” chest. It is the one with the large dark room that you have to jump through.

Wasn’t that one only just added? Or was it just the achievement for it just added? (in LS event)

The achievement was added but the dungeon was there
edit: nope i was wrong wiki says area added in Halloween update

Thats not exploiting considering Anet has already knew that people would do this which is why they have the 24hr limit on 2 servers for guesting. You also have to be aware that guests have lowest priority at any event meaning that if your feeling lagged they are more.

Final Rest - Current Theories

Its more likely that it is an event chain that no one really has done or done by one person and was never documented such is often the case. Some of the events start under very special circumstances and those circumstances are rare as well. We know that the boss is rare which means not commonly done. So far people have been naming off places that people have done to death over and over. There is literally thousands of events with i can bet a large number have been done only once by a handful of people and usually not till the end.

There is also minidungeons that people hardly do as well. Not to mention how many more places there could be that people just advoid. Such as there is a Champion Spider Queen in Metrica Province that no one kills or even goes to.

Looking through all the speculation posts and all there is one spot of final rest that no one is considering. I am not sure but i would believe that the burial place of the last of King of Orr. Champion Risen King is rarely done and people just run past him. Its also a final resting place so it could be there.

edit: not sure if chest drops from the boss.

speed buffs are only there closing gaps/escaping or traveling map. I use the signet on my ranger as it allows me to chase my enemy or when out numbered to turn and run (along with pulling out my GS so i can get another move skill). If everyone had the 25% then there would be no escaping really for the ranger. Not everyone uses so it has a purpose.

Sometimes i wish we’d go back to forced grouping to even level.

This would weed out everyone that refuse to be social and actually do stuff with other people.

Go back to?

really…

I don’t remember ever needing to be forced to group in any early MMOs.

You don’t remember having to be in a group and finding a camp to pull mobs to you as the only form of leveling? MMO’s existed before 2005.

Players were more like minded then and went out of their way to help others because they had to, otherwise they’d get nothing done. While i don’t miss the huge time sinks, i do miss this aspect.

2005, heh, i was playing them back in 1994 with Neverwinter Nights, then on to Ultima Online in ’97. I was never “forced” to group. Star Wars Galaxies, DAoC…

You could group to force pull mobs, probably helped you level faster, but you werent “forced” to. Which of these games were you playing that “forced” you to group?

I just commented, but I HAD to reply to this. Any game that wasn’t made in the West. Basically. Ragnarok Online, Maplestory, Shaiya, Priston Tale, Silkroad Online, Astonia 3 (I freaking loved this one, shoutout to anyone who may have played it!), EQ (not sure on this, correct me if I’m wrong), Runescape, Aion (at launch, unsure of grind status now). I am positive there’s more, but I can’t remember them all. Keep in mind, some of these may have changed since I played. Also some do have quests; leveling was mainly done by mob grinding though.

Interesting, can safetly say i don’t believe i played any of those games other than Aion (i remember levelling solo at times in that game), they weren’t really my speed.

The original person i commented on, gave (at least to me) the impression that back in the day, the only way to level in MMOs was forced grouping, which i thought simply wasn’t true, and definetly not in any games i played, thats why asked for examples. I wasn’t completly doubting it, just doubting thats the only way it used to be.

Though i was never a fan of korean grinders, so that might explain some things. Regardless, i can go back to ’94 with no forced grouping.

/shrug

A better comparison for forced grouping is GW1. You were forced to group to do most of the content. Sure you had henchies and heroes but they AI wasnt very good and you always needed people to do DOA and missions. So i would expect that some of the forced grouping continues in the sequel.

Dude you do realize Anet has said you dont have to do the monthly. Its your choice to do it or not no one is forcing you.

i also don’t have to level, or chat, or even move around. your argument is invalid.

to not do the monthly means a loss of 10 laurels. that puts you way way behind in getting them which puts you back for wvwvw.

it already takes 30 days assuming you do a daily every day…. if you want some of the other rewards for laurels you can enjoy spending 75 days doing dailies if you don’t want the 10 from the monthly.

Still your choice my argument is still valid. Does anyone say that you have to get that amulet? no. You just want it so you have to make the effort to do it. And yes i do my dailies every day and my monthlies every month but i tend to do them out of fun not once did i have to go out of my way to complete a single one.

Why are dyes not account bound?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Suddenflame.2601

Suddenflame.2601

Dude your reading comprehension is dreadful at best. i never asserted that the economy would collapse based on accountbound dyes. I said the economy for dyes (a very specific part of the economy) would collapse.

Which is still an assumption based on zero tangible data or evidence.

Plus you fail to realize that the prices of the dyes would plummet and not go up as supplies would be high and demand low as everyone would have the dyes. (Supply and Demand). Even if they were to lower the drop rates eventually everyone would have them and not everyone wants a bitfrost therefor the prices would plummet due to over supply. Economics dude.

Oh, so let’s get this straight then:

In an account-bound system, players will eventually have all of the dyes, leading to economic collapse in the dye market.

But in a soulbound system, players will….eventually have all of the dyes also (though it will take longer as they are loading out five characters), leading to an economic collapse in the dye market.

Hrm, how does one produce this fabled “economic collapse” but not the other? Are you relying on the fact that once a player makes five characters, they’re naturally be inclined to make a sixth, then a seventh, and to keep making characters forever? That’s an extremely unlikely presumption.

Account bound drawbacks:

  • would require massive drop reduction to the point they were rarer than exotics
  • even if that rare eventually everyone would have the dyes which would reduce demand
  • once demand is lower the supply starts to build up which lowers prices even more
  • recipes for dyes that exist in game already would also already lower the demand as people would just make the dye of their choosing

I’m okay with the first. I have no problem with dyes being rare, they should be something special and eventful rather than something bland and boring as they are now.

The second and third point are also true of the soulbound model (it just takes five times as long to get there) and so doesn’t really help your case.

The fourth point doesn’t make much sense, as I was referring to the fact that players use Unidentified Dye in recipes, including one that crafts The Bifrost.

Character bound drawback:

  • Accessible only by one character
  • having to gather multiple of the same dye for each character

You didn’t try very hard here. Let me help you by taking all of those things you placed under account-bound and adding them here too, where they belong:

  • Eventually everyone has all the dyes on every character
  • Produces a system whereby the supply outstrips the demand in the long run, just like the account-bound model

There really isnt many cons to character bound but i just gave you many actual plausible reasons why accountbound is a bad idea.

And I maintain that these reasons are also true of the soulbound model.

There is only one true draw to the soulbound model over the account-bound one: that players will always need dye. But that relies heavily on the hope that players will continue to make characters after they fill their five alloted character slots….which is not necessarily going to be the case.

I honestly doubt that ANet has made any significant amount of money off of dyes as they are. I think they’d make far more money by lowering the rates significantly and making the dyes account-bound, then continuing to add more recipes that use dyes to craft unique skins and tonics. But that’s just my thoughts on the matter.

Dude your assuming everyone has just 5 characters and are not adding and deleting them. Throw those 2 variables in and you got far far longer then accountbound. Either way soulbound is better cause it does not cause rapid inflation as you are wanting which would cause rapid deflation. Soul bound just makes it increase slightly then a nice long curve down. Its a better model as you have pointed out that it makes the deflation and inflation take longer.

So lets say it would take an average player 1year to get all the dyes. Based on this the rapid inflation and deflation would happen in a span of 1 year which we all know wouldnt have made the game very old. Right now it would take it 5years assuming everyone kept their characters and didnt delete them or buy more slots. 5 years is far better than 1year which makes soulbound > accountbound. Plus since we know people are more then likely to add and delete characters its more likely 7-10years before dye prices fall below reasonable. Which by then GW3 or another game would have become much more popular so no one would give a kitten

Also to add to the cons of the accountbound:

  • causes massive inflation of price at start (precursor anyone?)
  • Then once the majority of people have that dye (which wouldnt take long) rapid deflation. Very very poor market design.

How is it better then both? Sure it gives all characters the ability to use all dyes quick but at the cost of dyes being worthless after awhile and just trash that you wouldnt even pick up any more.

That’s not even remotely true. If dyes were account-bound, chances are very good that the devs would have made the drops rates much much lower. Thus they’d be far more expensive to purchase in the TP, and it would mean that picking up Unidentified Dyes is more important than ever (as they’d sell for more money).

As it is, dyes are so common and cheap that a player can potentially buy the entire stock of dyes without much effort since most of them are a few silver per unit, which means ANet doesn’t get a single dime from dye pack sales. Frankly I think the current dye system doesn’t really inspire people to buy their dyes from the Gem Store at all.

Also, you need 250 of them to craft The Bifrost, so there would always be a demand for Unidentified Dyes.

There is draw backs to each but accountbound has more then soulbound.

Really? Out of curiosity, I’d love to see your list of drawbacks for each model.

Oh, and this time, make sure you’re not asserting that the economy would collapse if dyes were account bound, please. That’s an assumption, not a statistically measurable fact.

Dude your reading comprehension is dreadful at best. i never asserted that the economy would collapse based on accountbound dyes. And I agree, it was absolutely worse than the existing model in every way. I don’t necessarily think we’re bound and gagged to either one or the other, however, and I think it’s being a tad dishonest to imply that it’s a choice between Bad Model A and Bad Model B when there’s a perfectly valid third option they presented 2 years ago that’s better than both. :p

Suddenflame.2601

I did read what you said but apparently your having troubles rereading what you said. For instance you said that i said the economy was going to fail without soulbound dyes. When in the matter of fact I did not say that.

Orly.

Like everyone else said before me if they were account bound and not soulbound the economy for dyes would be dead and worthless after a small period of time.

Strange, it looks to me like that statement very clearly reads that you think account bound dyes will kill the economy.

Your trying to get an answer for something said 2 years ago which has extremely minor impact on the game itself. Everything Colin has been giving answers to are posts that actually effect gameplay. Your posts for an explanation on why dyes are soulbound and not Accountbound is pointless.

No I’m not. I’m pointing out that this argument of “it’s not against what they said” is false, because it clearly is against their original design. I think they should tell us why it changed, but I’m not demanding an answer. I don’t particularly care what system is used any more to be honest, I’m just tired of people lying about what ANet said when we know for a fact exactly what was said.

One dev said it 2 years ago give it a rest considering it has no effect on the game itself and obviously makes more sense the way they did it now.

The dev who said it was in charge of the dye system at that time, and received clearance from the game’s head developer to make that statement. That makes it officially sanctioned. Please stop trying to suggest otherwise, it’s getting old.

Soulbound allows there to be money to be made using dyes by the players. Accountbound would make the prices fall drastically and make selling dyes worthless. Dyes right now are worth a lot and sell often.

See, you’re saying it again right here! You’re claiming that account bound dyes would destroy the economy, and then trying to say “well I didn’t say that”. Yes, you did. It’s right here in plain sight for everyone to see. Stop lying.

Also to help with your words Promise: noun: A declaration or assurance that one will do a particular thing or that guarantees that a particular thing will happen. verb: Assure someone that one will definitely do, give, or arrange something; undertake or declare that something will happen.

Based on the statement she did not promise that this was going to be in there. She gave an idea of what might be there. For there is not words in her statement that say for sure, it will happen, Its going to be, ect. The words used were ambious about their certainty.

Actually, that definition supports my conclusion, not yours. You don’t seem to have a firm grasp of English so allow me to explain to you what that definition means, since you don’t understand it.

A promise is not always started with the words “I promise” or “we promise”, you know. It is given with affirmative statements of fact, using strong language (such as “will” instead of “may”) to affirm that something will be done in the manner expressed. When a developer makes a statement that is not intended to be a developmental promise, they tend to append this to their statement. I would lead my statements off with “What follows is my opinion” or something akin to that, to ensure that no one was confusing my statements of speculation or opinion for 100% certified fact. ANet’s development blogs, however, have always served as official statements from the devs that would reflect the design practice that shows up in the game itself. They didn’t make these posts simply to say “hey, I think X would be really cool”, they made these posts to say “hey, we’re going to do this in our game”. Knowing this, let’s look at the original statement I quoted, bolding where the reading comprehension is most critical.

Once you unlock the color, it will be available across your entire account, not just the individual character.

Note that the developer uses the verb “will”, instead of “may” (which would suggest that this is merely her own ideas for how to implement dye rather than how the dye system was intended to work). You do not say that you “will” do something if in fact you’re only thinking about doing it, you say it when you intend to do it. This signifies rather directly that this is not intended to be speculative, this is their current operating policy for dye and this is how they intend to implement it.

Find my post on this? Oh right it was deleted over 30mins ago and you have yet to update. and you missed my latest post funny how that works when the latest post proves you wrong. It shows the link that is a combination of all forum posts from the Official Forums during the Beta test.

Again, though, it’s irrelevant, because I don’t honestly care if they change it back or not. All I’ve been trying to establish (and what continues to elude you) is that the devs were very clear in stating how dye was going to work. And then they changed their minds. And that’s perfectly okay, but they should try to explain why they changed their minds. That helps build trust with your community when you confide your reasons with them. When you refuse to answer the question or even acknowledge that it was asked, that makes players angry and fosters distrust and suspicion. It’s what helped to fuel all these “Nexon” posts, and it’s helped lead to the disaster of a forum community they have now.

And to their credit, they’re making strides to fix this, but they’re not there yet.

EDIT: Ah, so that’s why people are pointing fingers at Ms Cox and Nexon….how delightful.

I don’t agree with her reasoning at all, because dye clearly is a collection tool, otherwise you would not put it in the Gem Store and try to sell convenience to us….but again, I really don’t care.

My problem remains that they made a change and didn’t immediately tell people why. Instead, they answer the question in private on another website in a special interview. How is that talking directly to your players? Furthermore, how do they find time to “develop the game” (as you say they wouldn’t be able to do if they spent time on their forums) when they’re doing so many interviews?

Umm dude how many times must i put that link. That link is the last record of them talking about it on their official forums during the beta. They did tell us why they changed it your just not reading it.

The fact of the matter is, we as players should be told what happened to change the dye system. And if it’s a gem shop thing as people suspect it is, hey, I’d actually be okay with that explanation, because at least then they’re being honest and telling us why they changed it. But not knowing and refusing to even acknowledge that the question has been asked? That fosters distrust, and that’s why these forums are such a wreck these days: because no one trusts ANet to do things “right” any more. Communication would go a long way towards fixing that.

Actually funny enough you apparently really really really need to reread the posts and actually read them cause Anet has already given a statement about the change. Go figure right? They didn’t promise you anything.

Yes, they did. There is no questioning that fact shy of outright denial, and I’m not obligated to humor denial.

They didn’t say it was going to be for certain and dude i been playing GW1 and GW2 from long time ago which is why i got 30 points in my HoM.

Then why do you know nothing about the game you’ve supposedly been following since the beginning? You claimed that the game “wasn’t even in alpha” in 2010 which is outright false, and anyone who has been following GW2 since the days of GW1 would know that’s not true. You state that the devs never made promises about anything, yet anyone following GW2 would remember the countless blog posts made by active developers and cleared by ArenaNet’s head of development that established countless details about the game’s lore and functionality. And I assure you, dyes are not the only thing they’ve changed their minds on.

The devs do not need to give an answer unless it was explicitly stated that it was going to be that way which it wasn’t.

But it was. We have the quote. Honestly, you’re being ridiculous now. We have a quote direct from a developer of the game, approved by ArenaNet for public posting, that says the opposite of what was released. That’s a contradiction.

I don’t hear you crying out when a Politician says one thing then does another thing.

You obviously know nothing about me, either. That’s two things, then.

Its 2 years ago “one dev” said that and coming to 1 year ago that it showed that it was something completely different. Which means my statement was still correct from before considering I said that it went from Account bound to Soulbound which the seed article also shows considering that it says soulbound right in it lol.

Do you read posts when you reply to them? Like, really read them?

Because if you had, you’d note that I said there is nothing wrong with developers changing their minds. They just owe their players an explanation when they change a design construct to move away something from what they’ve already said. It’s a matter of honesty. Not explaining it to your players breeds mistrust, which is where all these “Nexon has taken over OMG” posts came from.

Like everyone else said before me if they were account bound and not soulbound the economy for dyes would be dead and worthless after a small period of time. This would be completely different from GW1 where Black/White dyes were even used as currency cause of their worth. It is not inferior system if it helps the economy stay afloat. They are not forcing people to buy the Dye packs from the store cause dyes drop often from monsters.

The economy in GW2 does not run on dyes, and certainly would not “collapse” as a result of dyes being account bound. Your argument is completely invalid.

As they have said everything can be gained outside of the gem store that is not cosmetic in nature.

Er, dyes are cosmetic items. And this is rather irrelevant to the discussion at hand, that being that the devs promised account bound and delivered soulbound instead.

edit: Also the one dev who said it is unknown at this point if they still work for Anet or not and it was not the lead Dev. It was also posted in a blog for Anet but anyone could have posted it with/without permission from the lead dev. Which does not make it an official Anet statement.

You actually think that a developer for ArenaNet would be allowed to come out and make blog posts stating how the game will function without having to clear everything they say with the game lead?

I have nothing more to say to you if you actually believe that. You have got to be trolling. I’ve worked in game design before….forget blogs, nearly every public statement I made had to be cleared through my superiors to ensure that players weren’t being promised anything that they couldn’t deliver. That’s how a well-run game is operated.

I didnt say the economy would fail without soulbound dyes reading comprehension is needed here. And yes Devs have in the past and will continue to in the future say stuff that wasn’t first approved by the lead dev. Dude look at League of legends, WoW, ect. The problem occurred in all of them. The devs also dont owe you squat since you were aware of this change since 2 years ago and now decide to complain about it. If the devs have to explain every design change they make they will be on the forums more then actually designing the game. Your not entitled to a reason for every change made in a game. Come to think of it i have never heard of any dev team giving out a reason for every change that they make.

Why are dyes not account bound?

Your forgetting the date on when that was said in the blog. It says 2010 so 2yrs before the games release. Hell it wasnt even in Alpha testing then let alone beta testing. Things change in 2yrs and miracously the only thing that changed was Account bound to Soulbound. Usually in those 2 years something massive changes. They wanted it to be more like GW1 but even better still. Just be happy they didnt make it exactly like GW1 dyes considering how costly they would be if they did.

You obviously weren’t around before August, so allow me to explain a few things to you.

1) The game was originally announced in 2007. There were several playable demos of the game available by 2010 shown off at several major conventions, a policy which continued all through 2011.

So the narrative that the game “wasn’t even in alpha” is completely false. It was actively playable in a limited form by the general public as early as 2010, and they had several closed/press betas in 2011 prior to the open betas of 2012.

2) The original dye system shown in the first open beta weekend was nothing like the one in the game right now.

During the first beta weekend event, players were required to obtain Colorful Dye Seeds that required cultivation back in the “Home” area. Cultivation took either 24 real world hours, or the purchase of an item from the Gem shop. Once cultivated it would drop a soulbound, unidentified dye; that dye would unlock a new color. This system has since been replaced.

Notice that I’m not complaining about the fact that the dye system is no longer like that (probably because the old system was inferior to the current one), but I am complaining about the fact that it has gone from account-bound to soulbound (probably because they changed a good thing into something that is inferior).

Developers are totally allowed to change their minds. It is their game. But the paying public has every right to ask for a reason, and the devs do owe them an honest answer, especially if they promised it would be handled differently. The lack of response to this and many other perceived “negatives” about the game is part of what fueled all of this mistrust between devs and players to begin with.

Coming clean would be a good step towards real communication.

They didn’t promise you anything. They didn’t say it was going to be for certain and dude i been playing GW1 and GW2 from long time ago which is why i got 30 points in my HoM. The devs do not need to give an answer unless it was explicitly stated that it was going to be that way which it wasn’t. I don’t hear you crying out when a Politician says one thing then does another thing. Its 2 years ago “one dev” said that and coming to 1 year ago that it showed that it was something completely different. Which means my statement was still correct from before considering I said that it went from Account bound to Soulbound which the seed article also shows considering that it says soulbound right in it lol.

As they have said everything can be gained outside of the gem store that is not cosmetic in nature.

In addition, the adrenal health (120 health per second) occurs only after 30 successful attacks with your weapon. Assuming you survive until then, you are left with far less regeneration up until that point. This places your total, passive regeneration below 352.439. I would estimate your actual passive regeneration at close to 300 health per second.

(Edited to include adrenal health regeneration)

edit: Signet of Rage helps with that as well. But i tend to use it to increase my damage and speed while in their zerg. Which takes only secs to get 30hits considering if i am in their zerg i will have hit 5 per hit which means i only have to hit 6 times even better i just use 2 on the axe skill which gives me 10 by itself (cause it spins twice and hits people twice). People are much too focused on this manifesto bit. It’s not about whether or not it violates the manifesto.

The true issue at hand here is that current state of dyes is directly contradicted by a developer’s statement on how the dye system would work.

http://www.arena.net/blog/live-and-let-dye-kristen-perry-on-the-gw2-dye-system

Storage was always a factor when it came to dye colors in Guild Wars. The new system would cripple most inventories if we required characters to lug all the dyes around. Fear not! The dye hues themselves will be unlockable through various means, both in-game and out. Once you unlock the color, it will be available across your entire account, not just the individual character.

There is absolutely no way for anyone in this thread to argue that the developers haven’t gone back on their word with regards to the functionality of dye. Because we have a direct, unambiguous quote from a developer about how dye would function. And they have never given an official answer as to why they changed this policy.

And my guess as to why that is? It’s awful hard to spin “we’ll sell way more dye packs this way” as positive PR.

Your forgetting the date on when that was said in the blog. It says 2010 so 2yrs before the games release. Hell it wasnt even in Alpha testing then let alone beta testing. Please keep the discussion on topic. The devs need to see that many in the community are not happy about this and going off topic only distracts from the main issue, namely, the lack of stat options in ascended gear and the danger it presents to many builds.

As i said before they have stated there is going to be new stats 2 months ago. They are probably holding out on some of the states for the big release of all new stats along with ascended stats. So if stated 2 months ago it has a bit longer in development time (new stats will also apparently will be on exotics cause it will have other combinations). Plus they also stated when Ascended was released that there is going to be a lot more done to them then Exotics. So we are just seeing the start of something different.

I certainly hope so – but if it’s so, why won’t they just tell that? Besides, that’s not exactly true – they did introduce two new stat sets (Apothecary and Giver) lately – after ascended items. They could have added their ascended equivalents right then easily, and yet they chose to not do so. Why?
I have no idea – and I have no idea, because since the problem has appeared on Nov 15th devs have been ignoring it’s very existence. We don’t even know if it’s considered a problem at all, much less when and how they are going to fix it.
The continued silence from the devs is far more worrying than some stats missing. The latter can be a simple mistake. The former looks like an intentional behaviour.

I do believe the dev was referring to stats that are not event specific but are like full on new combinations. Such as the giver one has snowflakes which are only found during wintersday.

I was going to lose the fight so i did the smart move of dodging under him and using point blank shot and throwing the warrior over the edge where they fell to their deaths. They respawned came back and tried fighting me again and i once again shot the warrior off the edge killing them again. Finally they respawned came at me again this time knocked me off the edge where i lived and ran away lol. good times good times

Thank you Anet for that lovely experience which is only possible here.

Suddenflame makes very valid and reasonable points. Yet, I still miss it…with all the rendering issues and more frequent / longer downtimes. If I had to choose I’d pick a seamless world.

I understand the reasoning better but in the end (more myself) I prefer the greater immersion while in game than having less immersion more reliably.

players care about the immersion and companies care about providing a reliable service that they dont have to repair 24/7 lol in Anet’s case they wouldn’t be able to afford to having to constantly replace servers cause they got overloaded and fired lol. WoW and Tera can afford it cause they are subscription based along with secret world. Perfect World is free but has kittenty rendering to compensate. It all depends on how much you want to pay. (SWOTR i am not sure if they have loading screens or not but if they do i would be a bit surpised unless they expected to fail hard)

Also have to note Look at the number of down times (server down times due to anything) between GW1, GW2, and WoW. The ratios suggest that WoW has been down a lot longer then GW1 or GW2. I believe if i read correctly that GW1 total down time is only like 3 days or something close that. This is due to less stress on the servers overall from batch rendering rather than overhead rendering.

Loading screens is a seperation of servers. They appear only cause the entire zone is loaded at once (which is useful for such things as Dynamic Events). WoW, Tera, and other games that have a streamless world isnt actually streamless. WoW and games like it are computational heavy throughout the entire game (meaning great way to fry a processor and graphics card). As your walking through their worlds data for the region that you are in is rendered. If you have a slow computer or internet connection you are actually able to beat the rendering process and fall through the world (not pretty site). GW2 to keep the cost down but the graphics up splits the world so that its all rendered before you enter it hence the loading screens. Its not a step backward but rather a step to minimize overhead costs. If GW2 was to become like a WoW with a streamless world it would cause a massive amount of overhead cost which a large number of systems would not be able to handle. Imagine trying to render WvWvW constantly on top of the already high overhead cost of spell effects during zerg battles. No computer would be able to handle the WvWvW fights if it was a streamless zone.

Tera and WoW forums are plagued by the opposite of this forum, slow rendering. If a Gw2 server lags or has a minor issue it is not noticable if your already in the zone cause its already rendered and calculated. In WoW if there is an issue you notice it immidately and it appears in their forums quite often.

If you want to see a game that uses a seamless world but a terrible rendering algorithm look at Perfect World. You can cross several locations before rendering has caught up with you.

All I’m reading in this game is dooms-day and nay-sayers. Give Anet time! You guys aren’t even giving them adequate time to flesh out the game you’re just like, “GIVE ME WHAT I WANT NOW!” and when they don’t you QQ.

TLDR; good things come to those who wait.

Let me guess, you use none of the missing armor sets?

If we were asking for a new map, or something huge and time consuming to create, then I agree ‘more time’ is a valid statement. We are talking about armor sets that already exist in the game, how long could it possibly take to add another few types of rings, amulets and back pieces when they were adding all the others ones to the game? No one cares if they share the same graphic, we care that they do not exist at all.

If for some reason it does take time, and we need to give it more time, then ANET can tell us about it, tell us the reasons and give us an indication of how long we have to wait. Instead we have complete and utter radio silence on the topic, and that is why folks are getting annoyed. More time my bass.

The main issue i see about having the rings, backpieces, and amulets with Healing/toughness imbedded in them are incase of the characters like my warrior. Without ascended gear i am able to take run into a WvW zerg and not die while taking them out. On top of it when i did the math calculations for my regeneration i get 608HP/sec so if they add more healing to it then my regen would just start to get crazy.

Unless i am missing some values, the highest regen pr sec you should see is 293 health pr second. That is using the formula from the wiki on regeneration and the exotic gear numbers from the affix page from same.

http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Regeneration
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Affix

You are missing many regeneration for a warrior. Healing Signet, Regeneration, Banner of Tactics, Adrenal Health, Armour + Accessories + Weapons

Which by the Hero Panel (cant look at it right now) gave me if i remember correctly 983 (cant remember if that is with or without banner yet). Banner is giving Regeneration fyi.

120hp/s from Adrenal Health (360hp/3secs),
Regeneration: 130 + (0.125 * 983) per second = 252.875
Healing Signet: 200 + (983 * 0.033) per second = 232.439
add those together and you get 605.314hp/sec

This is even with Melandru Runes in place.

Fast in video game development world. The huge topic against it would not have changed the fact that they said that Ascended should have been in the game since the start. They were fixing a mistake and people didnt like it cause they thought they were introducing a gear treadmill when in reality they were just adding something that should have already been there to begin with. Its been 3 months great which means in another 3-4 months the new state items should be released if they arent then i will start to wonder considering thats how long it should take if they are doing development. League of Legends takes months to make a single champion and people think the champions were made in 2 weeks when in reality it took them about 3-7 development months to make a single champion.

Have you ever made a video game? How are you pulling these numbers so “efficiently”? And there are so many fallacies involved with your argument…again. 1) Ascended items were added AFTER the initial creation of the game (and they admitted that they weren’t thinking of it before the launch of the game…the decision came AFTER LAUNCH)…it is incredibly safe to assume that since the game was released on August 28th (round it to September for simplicity sake), it took them AT MOST 2.5 months (September 1st to November 16th Fractal patch) to create the dungeons, randomize the fractals, balance the encounters, create the loot parameters, create the fractal currency, create the new infusion recipes into the mystic forge, draw the art for the backpieces, fix the bugs, add the ascended rings…etc.

2) League of Legends takes around 3-7 months to create champions. Of course, this is much more reasonable given the fact that they have to balance the champion, make sure he doesn’t have any overpowered synergies, create the lore, draw the art, think of five unique skills, create the animations, complete the voice…etc. A lot of work goes into making these champions.

But for a piece of gear that’s already been introduced in a similar form where all one has to do is change a few of the stats around and add art for their icons (amulets/rings are not even armor pieces so they don’t even have to draw a physical asset)? Do you believe that it should take longer than 3 months (lower end of the spectrum for a LoL champion) to add pieces of gear?

Actually yes i have and FOTM had to be thought of prior to that date. Cause there is far more work in making a dungeon then it takes to make a champion anyone who has ever made a game knows this! Even ask LoL developers it takes a long time to make a single map. Dominion took them over 1 year to make the map for. SO everything your suggesting that Anet started after the game was released is false. The idea and art along with the core concepts and code had to exist prior to that 2.5 months considering everything they released that day. Dude it takes a long time to build stuff espically the detail that is being placed into the landscape.

Similar to mine then considering that Ascended was poorly planned and only thrown in a measure to appease the masses. They already said that it was poorly planned and are working on correcting it. I am amazed more of how fast they are working on it.

It’s more like to kitten off the masses (try to remember HUUUUUGE topic about Ascended gear when it was announced) and I don’t know your definition of ‘fast’, but it’s almost 3 months since Ascended rings were introduced.

EDIT: By the way, I think it’s easier to release the same items with different stats (rings) than new ones with the same stats (amulets).

You are wanting a gear stats that may be against what Anet is trying to do with Ascended Gear.

Perhaps, but only ANET can say that and that is what people are asking.

Your opinion, regardless of your insistence otherwise, is just that and not worth any more than anyone else on these forums. Your view on what ANET should and should not tell us, is also just an opinion.

Actually funny enough I have not stated my own personal opinion in any of this. My opinion is that they should tell us cause i am curious to know what their plan is.
