SAB... seriously

Tribulation mode is a joke. 50 Lives and still cannot get past 3rd checkpoint b/c of the BS rocks. I see what you did Anet.. made it like this to put in an infinite continue coin so we all pay you MORE money to do this. Well not happening for me.

And if people say it is suppose to be that hard.. No I disagree. For one I think the SAB should be doable by all. BUT it should require more challenge not this 1 hit and you are dead crap. That is just utter garbage. Seriously.. 1 hit and you are dead Anet!? Thanks for making me want to destroy my computer and uninstall the game.

I can see you are frustrated but think of it as a challenge to be overcome. Such as the Halloween Clock Tower Jumping Puzzle supposedly only 5% of the players were able to beat it. Tribulation Mode is supposed to be that hard as it is an extra challenge mode with increased rewards. Risk and reward. If you want an even more challenging game go play Demon Souls.

Laurel items now basically worthless?

Suddenflame.2601

Reading through most of the posts I have come to the conclusion that people wanting MF on their gear or massive compensation are being greedy and self-centered. I say this with respects to what MF is all about. For starters:

From a stat perspective the change is larger than the jump from exotics to ascended. If its “very small” I assume you wouldn’t mind if your crafted ascended weapon got randomly deleted then.

Basically shows a self-centered attitude about the effect of MF.

MF is one of the few ways you compete against other people in a PvE environment. If everyone has the same MF, then we really all might as well not have any MF as far as the economy’s concerned. The number of drops goes up but then so does the price and we end up in the same place just with bigger numbers.

However, I can earn myself an advantage by getting higher MF than everyone else. Now, my income of loot is (statistically speaking) outstripping inflation. That’s the point of getting MF gear: giving yourself an economical leg up. That doesn’t happen if everyone has the same MF.

Yes, how dare we feel entitled to the stat total we paid for. How dare we feel shorted when our order comes back but with an item that we paid for missing.

This one shows how self-centered you have to be in the first place. MF was removed do in fact how it was anti-team based stat that provided a bonus to the “lazy” people of the game. Basically, you did less work but get a larger potential for a better reward. Anet removed MF from armor as it unfair and detrimental to the community as a whole.

Celestial gear if bought for MF wouldn’t have provided you with the adequate MF compared to the other MF gear. Which means to have bought the gear your primary goal was the stats that it provided. My ranger currently utilizes a multi-stat combinations with several celestial gear to balance out weak points in character build while not sacrificing too much in regards with damage.

Celestial gear should not be compensated as you self-centered people want. You originally bought it for the stats and not for the full MF. If you were fully after MF you would have gone with a full MF set.

Also trying to say lowering Critial damage or power on Bezerker gear would not create the same situation. Celestial is designed to provide to all stats that can the appear on armor. MF was removed as a stat and Celestial reflect that. Boon duration and Condition duration are not stats that appear on the armor and should not appear on Celestial.

Before you try to insult me or to say that I do not understand, I myself have Celestial gear and had a set of MF armor. I have spent Laurals on celestial items and have no regrets doing so. I am also pleased they removed MF from the armor have compensated me for some of my gear. Such as my backpiece used to be a Travelers and I have now made it a Bezerks but considered Celestial as well. My Celestial items are also still worn cause its the stats I wanted and MF being removed for a valid and good reason has not made me angry.

Reading posts especially Blaine Tog’s posts which focus on “me” with no regard to the community as a whole. The item you bought still is there and has not been stolen from you. Nor has it battle capabilities been lowered. You just lost your advantage of being a “lazy” bum who feeds off the work of others.

The only people I will exclude from this is straight PVE players who solo the entire game without going to any major events or participate with anyone else. Since going to any those events means everyone else is doing more work and your just tagging everything and letting them do most of it.

The deluxe Edition gives less but its not the same deluxe edition we bought when the game first came out. It comes with a gem store armour (profane, Primeval or kytan) it also has the mithril box. By the time this benefit came out pretty much everyone has the 18 slots on their characters if not higher.

Q: Parties and Influence

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Suddenflame.2601

You do not have to partied for an event. The game registers which guilds are in an event and how many from each guild. Party in the event does not generate extra influence. What may be getting them though is that influence does not instantly appear and does take it a bit to show up in the guild panel.

You guys are missing points. Some of the things from each event do stay. Such as moa racing will stay along with the new JP. Southsun gave us a new world boss with chest. Dragon Bash and Sky Pirates will have the new JP and moa racing to stay. There will be a living story soon that will introduce Polymock but i think they are working on the balancing considering Polymock would essentially be PVP.

Trading and Scamming

Suddenflame.2601

I was just wonder as to ANET’s policy on this. I realize there’s the auction house, but when it comes to selling large items you get taxed so heavily that it’s a deterrent. If they took out all the money (including listing fee) after it sold that would be one thing. Getting off track, but I finally finished making a Kudzu. I want to use the profits from it to help 2 of my friends get their precursors.

Could ANET could answer this:
If I make a trade with another player via mail system, both have in-text agreements and confirmations as to the deal, would ANET punish the player as to the “scamming” report as well as return the bow if they did nothing but attempt to steal it?

Anet has already stated previously that they are not responsible if you use the mail system for trading. It has been stated time and time not to use the mail system for trading and doing so is at your own risk. Basically by that statement it means you cant report them for scamming or anything cause you took the risk.

New condi vs Improving old condi's?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Suddenflame.2601

That explains why I never seen it lol Its not on these forums. Ok based on his explanation they are using stack based architecture probably using an array. Basically, it is cheaper on bandwidth to have more arrays rather then one big array. This is due to having to update the entire array at once each time. Having multiple arrays at set length allows them to be updated at random times. The set max is 25 due to the array size being around 25 and a magic number that if increased would use too much bandwidth at that exact moment.

SKILLS --> GW1 v GW2 v WoW

Main reason why the weapons do not do that is cause of how much work it would take to implement and ensure it is balanced for every case. GW1 sure had a lot of skills but was a balance nightmare for the dev team. Even still they are balancing it and since they split into PVE and PVP in GW1 it has been nothing but a headache to them. They stated way back when GW2 was released why there is less skills.

The Dungeon is easy just look at the mechanics of each fight and adjust accordingly. If you can not do that you should not be playing any game that requires any amount of skill. Such as the final boss, my entire team but me got killed cause they failed to adjust to the boss mechanics where as I kept jumping over the bosses damage. Basically this is one case where L2P holds greatly.

Ps. Warriors would have a harder time on the final boss if they don’t have ranged. I was a ranger and my pet kept dyeing in 2 hits. Our guardian kept dying as well due to proximity to the boss.

You guys are complaining about nerfs when they are buffing stuff as well. What they are doing is weaking some things and making others stronger. AKA balancing. Your making it sound like they are just nerfing everything to oblivion without giving anything back which is totally incorrect. We don’t know at this point fully whats going to be buffed or nerfed in this patch. People always complain about nerfs but they must happen. League of Legends buffs and nerfs things all the time to change the meta of the game. GW2 is fully capable of doing the same and it appears they are.

[[Casual Players]] My Issue with GW2

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Suddenflame.2601

Suddenflame.2601

The problem with this game is that it does not cater to “casual gamers,” but it caters to BAD and unskilled gamers.

It rewards bad and unskilled play (zerging, using MF gear, etc.) and punishes good and efficient play by anet literally banning good players who figure out the system (Snowflakes situation etc.)

Because of anet’s decision to cater to BAD players, not casual players, everything has just been reduced to a terrible grind.

Thus, instead of a situation as in GW1, where skill was the biggest deciding factor in how far a player got (at least in the beginning,) in order to cater to the lowest common denominator, the bad players, its been watered down to where time spent in-game is the biggest deciding factor in how far a player gets.

whoa dude you can not place MF users in the same group as unskilled or even bad players. As well what game does not give more to MF users? Any game with MF gives a slightly higher chance to MF users. Plus MF != unskilled. I use MF gear in WvW and still kick kitten just cause I know how to play my character doesn’t mean I don’t die occasionally i usually just chalk those up to being outmanned or if it is a 1v1 fight just being outskilled by the other player and learn from your mistakes. DO NOT BLAME GEAR!

I might consider buying this if it didn’t have the lava animation and made it so that mining was instantaneous and I didn’t have to manually loot the ore.

Instead of a flaming lava pick, I would like to see a super-efficient (maybe Asuran?) invention that manipulates the Eternal Alchemy to mine the ore simultaneously across multiple time dimensions and to use the same portal technology they already have to place it in your bags. Now that’s a time saver.

Farming in cursed shore/frost gorge atm.

Suddenflame.2601

Reading everyone comments you guys really really misread mine lol For starters why do you have to farm for it? Just play normally and the materials for your legendary will drop all in do time. By forcing yourself to get one your taking the fun out of getting one and all you can say when you get one is I just spent X amount of time farming or buying off of TP. Where as I will go I spent X + Y amount of time actually playing the game for fun not a job. If I want to farm for materials i go play Perfect World like really you don’t have to have that legendary right now.

What will be the difference between getting your legendary right now compared to 2 years from now? Nothing expect cost (it should be lower if your smart and saved your materials) and more choices of legendaries to pick from. You guys do realize they are going to release new ones eventually that probably be better then what they have now.

when is ncsoft going to add housing to gw2?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Suddenflame.2601

….I don’t think it is ok to release an unfinished game.

I haven’t logged in for a LONG time..but I just had to ask…this game is technically “unfinished” is it not? They’re constantly evolving the game…I thought that was the entire point.

Constantly evolving and missing key features the game should have shipped with are two different things.

OK, so who defines “key features?”

Easy to define. What where the major aspects that pushed by the publishers? What was used to draw people into the game.

Those are key features of the game. Nowhere did it state, guild halls or guild battles, therefor they are not key features. Player Housing is not mentioned by developers as a way to draw more people therefor its not a key feature.

Key in this contest along with speeches and other aspects means can not do without. Removing a key argument from a speech and the speech becomes useless mumble that no one would care to listen to. Key features of the game are without them the game would not be attractive. Evolutionary world is one of the key features of this game and they are holding true it so far.

Player Housing, custom PvP, Guild Halls, and ect. are not key features and the game would go on playing without as it is currently. They are certain player wants but are not necessary for the game to survive.

Effects Harvesting Tools

I love the effect and unlimited aspect as i hate running out and having to store a ton of picks, axes, and scythes just so i can wander through the land and harvest every node i see on the way lol. I also had to carry 1 of every kind just so i didnt waste a good one on a copper node.

I find it strange that you were so concerned about wasting an ori pick on a node that didn’t require an ori pick, from a cost standpoint, but then bought the mega-overpriced pickaxe (not visually overpiced, practically overpriced) that allows you to ignore that aspect.

Seems like it would have just been easier to have an ori pick equipped with a spare ori in the bag, and just replace it once you change over to the next set when you are by a vendor. In WvW the vendors are at every spawn, and pretty much any and every town. This would have been much cheaper, if cost was the concern.

On a side note, I competely agree with the ease of use and convenience of the thing, I just don’t know that it matters to me if I have to watch my scythe and axes still… i may as well just watch my ori picks as well, until I can get all three perm at the same time.

I bought the overly-priced pick with real money not in game money which is a difference. Not only the cost but storage space. I actually have an entire bank slot full of harvesting tools. Space is by more viable then money in real life and in-game.

Has the game released an end-game yet?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Suddenflame.2601

Suddenflame.2601

Firstly, let’s be honest here; Guild Wars 2 didn’t have kitten for the end-game upon release and for the first 1 to maybe 2 months or so. Seeing as I didn’t want to level in a game to where it’s all for nothing in the end, I decided to just go back to WoW. I also really didn’t enjoy the PvP that the game had to offer. It felt very repetitive and easy since you didn’t have to earn ANY of your gear. And the point of an MMO is to get epic loot and pwn some noobs right? (Come on, you used to talk like that back in 2003-2004, don’t lie x3) Well it just felt very…meh. Giving players gear just reduces the amount of gameplay, plus you don’t have to hit 80 to PvP, reducing even more gameplay since you don’t have to level if you don’t want to (Which can have its pros and cons).

But I digress. The game wasn’t too amazing other than the fun leveling, leaving out anything spectacular for the end-game. So as I said before, I left mainly just because the game felt unfinished in some aspects. You guys may have differing opinions, but I’m trying to state the facts (I’m not trying to be an kitten -can we say kitten ..? Eh…screw it) without being rude about it.

With that being said, I will move on to the main point of this thread: Has the game improved over-all? (PvP end-game, PvE end-game, etc etc.) I’m more of a PvPer and still am currently on World of Warcraft (2K swag). So has GW2’s PvP gotten any better? I see some fanboys saying its more developed than WoW’s, but let’s be honest…GW2 didn’t have much to offer PvP wise when it came out. But has any of that changed? What about PvE? Are the raids/dungeons or whatever more challenging?

I’m honestly getting really tired with WoW. I want to join a game where there’s just as good PvP if not better, same thing goes for PvE.

Please be honest with everything. I’d appreciate leaving out the biased opinions that just make GW2 have an aspect that makes it better than something WoW has. Give me facts, I’d really appreciate all of the responses and honesty.

Thanks in advance everyone.

Just noting on your comment about PvP. GW2 PvP is about skill not gear and that wont change.

In PVP they have made changes:
added Matchmaking
add WvWvW lvls (different from your character lvl)
a ton more other things.

Is Guild Wars 2 Doing Well?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Suddenflame.2601

Several independent observers saw the high pop servers drop to medium all at the same time in Europe and US. After these observations an Anet employee comes along and says yeah, due to the success of our recent sale we’ve increased server capacity on some servers. I have two things I can believe.

A BUNCH of people in Europe and the US all left the game simultaneously or maybe they expanded the number of players who could be on a single server.

Sure, you can say Anet will say anything they like, but it doesn’t change the fact that server numbers have very very likely increased on certain servers.

This really isn’t rocket science.

You do realize that only way for the population to drop from high to low is:
A. Large number of people moved from Very High to Low Population servers
B. Server was full of bots and they just banned a hell lot of them
or
C. Anet increased server size

Population count is only how many accounts are tethered to that server not how many people are playing. And its only logical for one of these conclusions to be true.

Please Explain the Logic of the AoE Limit

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Suddenflame.2601

Suddenflame.2601

Real world battle tactics still apply in the game. Rome did not conquer most of the world from just zerging its enemy. Using their battle tactics in a sword/magic game makes life a hell lot easier and by far more effective. Rangers/mages rain down covering fire for warriors while thieves use stealth to disrupt the enemy. As well thieves are used to kill enemy eles. Warriors used as front line as they have highest base hp and have many skills to reduce damage. Guardians are the main support for warriors and complement them in the advance. With the massive concentrated fire from the rangers and mages along with advancing warrior and guardians the enemy zerg would have to pull back or get wiped. Battle tactics > sheer numbers.

This is exactly what WvW should be like, yes. But it just isn’t like this at the moment. Mainly because the “covering fire” that you mention doesn’t really cover much at all as if the zerg stacks up, it only hits 5 out of the 40+ that are there.

It’s extremely zergy because zerging has become both the most effective tactic and the tactic that generates the most rewards for the group.

Have you ever heard of the zerg stacking up? Even if it did then you stack the AOE covering fire. The only reason why it doesn’t happen is cause there is no overlying commander. The limit has no effect really from my experience in WvW other then prevent just a couple of people from eliminating an entire zerg. Also before people bring up the counter argument they could just move out of the red circle. It is really hard to see that red circle when there is spells going off all over and people littering the ground.

I don’t mean to sound rude, but which server do you WvW on?

The prevalent tactic for all zergs is to stack up and charge in and is seen consistently in JQ, BG and SOR. I can’t speak for the rest, but on those 3 servers, it’s all we do as it’s undeniably the superior tactic at the moment.

Stacking AOEs does not necessarily damage different targets. If you have 10 people together and stack 2 aoes on them, it doesn’t spread evenly between all 10. Depending on positioning, it will hit the same 5 targets until they’re dead before touching the next 5. Apply this to a zerg of 40+ and instead of your aoe damaging a large number of people, you damage 5 until they’re dead. Then the next 5. Then the next 5. This is why stacking up is the superior tactic as you minimize your losses to aoe.

Your statement is untrue about stacking it does not minimize your loses at all since it actually creates more loses. If AOE just damages random 5 people each sec and all aoe stacked then it would damage 5 people randomly each sec and if there is 40 and only 2 aoe circles then 0 deaths as damage are spread out, but if there it damages the same 5 people with the 2 there are 5 deaths not 0. It is greater lose then if it were random.

Lucky I know that it is random/sec and does not constantly effect the same 5 people. If there is 40 of them you would need 40/5 = 8 AOE circles just to damage them all at least once. Since most wouldn’t stand in the same circle but some will those who remain would be destroyed. Lets say 30 move out of the circles, but 10 stay which means there are 8 AOE circles just draining their HP before they can move.

I am in Fort Aspenwood server, and when I do play as a commander I usually play defensive and give orders for battle tactics. So far proven to be very effective at delaying or outright stopping a siege even if numbers are 4 to 1 with downed walls. I even was in Stormbluff Isles and managed to get to the lords room of Storm Mist Castle with only 10 people and held off 30 down a single corridor for 20mins.
Tactics > Zerg.

Sure most zerg but soon as there is an organized group (can’t say zerg as it wouldn’t be mindless) any large zerg would just crumble.

As well realistically when stacking AOE usually only 5 stay within 3 circles which means they die pretty much instantly. With longbow Rangers and staff eles casting it becomes one hell of deathtrap as there is stuns and cripples with heavy damage constantly. Larger groups with 50 people would just be nuts if cooridnated correctly as they could utilize fields from thieves and mesmers more effectively.

Reading through the posts and everyone is talking about the zerg being the most effective method when it actually isn’t lol. I been in WvW matches where our zerg was outmanned and had to split up into 2 different groups to defend against 2 massive zergs. Knowing who is following you as a commander is more important then just a mindless group. If i had a choice i would force people in my group into certain builds and weapons just so that the group could work together better. Since you can’t (unless your in a guild) you just make due with what you got.

Leaderboards Have Been Released!

Waste of developer time in my honest opinion.

Its only a small team probably of only 5 to 10 people out of 300 or more. Leaderboards are in other games that want to be competitive such as Starcraft and WoW. Pretty much any game with PvP has leaderboards.

Still a waste of time, they could be doing far more important things… and stuff. Stuff and things.

What may be important to you is not always what is important to everyone else. Such as Twilight movie I consider a total waste of money and hurts society then benefits. Does that mean my opinion is more important then someone else’s? No it wouldn’t as long as it does not directly effect me. My girlfriend loves twilight but as long as she doesn’t force me to watch it or anything similar to it they can keep making the movies.

I am a competitive player and love to see where I stand on the leaderboards. Such as when Command and Conquer comes out I will be playing it to no end just to make sure I stay on top. If the game is too easy I do not find that it can offer me anything to learn from.

Anet has already taken this into account and is putting a hard cap on it along with all others expect for daily and monthly.

Personaly, I don't think Dailies are a good idea

I was watching the boys play pandaland today, lower level zones have tons of people in them, I’ve heard them cuss out loud after being ganked, or laughing their kitten off after ganking, those are the things that make people log in day after day. Also, building some attachment to you little pixel man/woman in the process.

One thing about this game, I give zero farks about any of my characters. But this guy, I luv em’, even though I no longer play and have no desire to play again esp after RAF.

You are rewarded for playing the game.
What is the problem here??

Do you want to be rewarded for doing nothing??
Do you not want to be rewarded at all??

I just got back from not playing Gw2 for a week…

Did I lose anything?

No.

Am I going to be punished?

No.

Where in your diluted minds do you feel that the dailies MUST be done?

Why do you feel that doing a daily is “a chore?”

The word daily.

When x is given by doing x once a day and only once, it becomes a chore. Why not let people just get as many as they want in 1 sitting?

Because thats bad game design?
Oh I see you beaten the horrible ogre monster, take as many as my virgin daughters as you wish!

What the hell.

Do you not understand the part that you’re not forced to do them.
You have a freaking choice.

You’re not forced, and you gain no advantage, what’s the point of locking out people who don’t play every day? This game is made for people who play in moderation and then gives rewards to those who are committed to logging in every day. So which is it? A game you occasionally play, or one you must commit to in order to get rewards?

-edit, btw, I’ve only done 1 daily since they were introduced.

Gain no advantage?
What you talking about Willis?

You get to trade in your laurels for awesome cosmetic stuff like minipets and unident dyes and even ascended accessories.

Again things that you DONT need, sure ascended trinkets and stuff are nice to have, so work for them for if you want, I only started playing Gw2 again 16 days ago and I have 16 laurels, how is this a chore?

Log in, nothing to do, look at dailies, do dailies, run a couple of dungeons, clear a map call it a night in 3 hours.

Do you take an entire day to do your dailies?

Dailies are something I do at the start and it takes 40 minutes tops.

Cosmedics, mini’s, ascend is an advantage? BTW, did you read where I said I only did 1 daily since they were introduced? I don’t think they are a chore because I don’t care about them; however ANet should stick it out with a design choice and stop jumping all over the place.

A marginal Advantage thats easy to get.
And yes Anet shouldnt have added them that much I agree, after saying no gear grind.

Thing is, you say you dont care, yet you are here giving cares.
Whats up with that?

They never stated anywhere that there was no gear grind. Even in the manifesto it doesn’t say no gear grind. It says no grind but it does not say for what. Grind for levels based on the context but players implied gear when in the forums and every where they have stated there will be a vertical and horizontal progression in gear since beta. The vertical will be minor tho.

GW2 should not allow you to be in multiple guilds IMO

At first when I read about the multiple guild system, I was really happy. It sounded simply awesome. You would be able to have more than 1 guild which means my Guild that focuses on pve and some wvw but doesnt really do Spvp. I could still be with them and then just join a guild that wants to do Spvp alot.

However the system went from being awesome to a nightmare.

I tought I would get 2 chat channels for both guilds. But no you need to represent one of them. This was the first huge mistake they made when designing this system. It stops me from communicating with my guildmates.

Ok you can switch easily so you might think it not so bad. But then there is the small issue of the new guild content which requires a HUGE amount of Guildpoints which require representation.

So now nearly every guild out there requires you to represent 24/7 and if you do not you get kicked out. Death of small good guilds in favor of the humongous 500 man guilds.
I am still in my small nice guild but I see maybe 1-2 people at all. I wish I could have another bigger guild while nobody is online in my guild. But those guilds always require you to represent 24/7 which sucks.

I am within a large guild that does not force a 24/7 representation. They exist you just need to find them.

And an aside- For a “bad game” that has become the fastest selling MMO of all time, it isn’t doing too bad. Even if “some” people consider it a WoW clone.

Still, for all the people that said they needed to make it less like GW1 to really be profitable, it hasn’t been as profitable as the entire GW1 franchise yet. So, until then…

Comparing a 7 year old game to a 7 month ish old game is a little silly though, can’t you agree?

Not really, considering the fact that every GW2 apologist makes the argument that a game like GW1 wouldn’t be able to survive in today’s market. Seems like just as silly of a statement to me.

Sorry, you are having decent discourse and I’m really acting like the jerk here. Please forgive me. I just think that the whole things is silly. GW1 wasn’t even an MMO and yet, they made GW2 more like the traditional MMO and less like the exciting, team oriented combat game that GW1 was and excelled at. If the two were even close to being similar, I would be fine. But, they aren’t, and I feel duped as a consumer. That is all.

They didn’t state anywhere that it was going to be a team oriented game. They did state however that it was going to be more solo oriented. Based on that statement alone you should realize that it is not going to be the same as GW1. Humans tend to blame others when in reality it is themselves that caused it. You duped yourself into thinking that game is something when it is clearly not.

Sorry, I guess I don’t just gobble up everything that the devs say, I bought the game on the premise it would be even a sliver like GW1. Hell, the only thing I remember is the manifesto… If you love GW1 yadda yadda.

Also, I thought this was an MMO. If they wanted to make a single player game, they could have made GW2 The Single Player Game.

Yes, I duped myself into thinking that the sequel to a game with the same name would be similar to that game. You’re right. Instead, I got suckered in by the cash grab from NCSoft.

Cash grab? At what point must you spend money other then the purchase to actually play? GW1 is not considered an MMO while GW2 is. Your definition of MMO is flawed a bit. Another aspect that your forgetting how long was it before many of the features in GW1 were actually put into the game. Far as I am aware many of the features did not exist for a long period of time after launch. You can not think a game will have all its end game features at the start of the game.

Um, that’s what I said. GW1 wasn’t even an MMO, yet here we are, GW2 is an MMO. Not even the same kind of game. Also, the cash grab is the purchase of the game silly. The whole reason this game sold anything near what it did was because of GW1’s success.

And, I don’t know what features you’re talking about with GW1, but I’m pretty sure the skill system, the classes and the missions were in place in Prophecies at launch. Don’t quote me on that, I may have to do some research first. Oh, and I think Tombs, RA and GvG were available too. Of course, this is all considering that GW1 didn’t have year and years of development under their belt after making an already successful game. So, yea, I think I can be critical of that too. FoW and UW were in GW1 at launch as well, right? I mean, I played those for years after the other expansions they were that good.

So far, I fail to see any real point you are making here, please help me.

Most of those features you are talking about was not in at launch. The skill system at launch as well had not so many skills. Look up core skills and that is what it launched with. Not many at all and most of them crap. Many aspects of GW1 that you like did not appear until later on. Also, the team for GW2 is much larger than GW1 and a lot more code.

If you know anything about programming you would know that GW1 code is a hell lot easier than GW2 is. Due to difficulty in coding it becomes slower and more time consuming meaning overall less content in same development cycle.

Tombs was not in at launch it was added much later on. I can not find when UW and FoW were placed due to the records of wiki only going back to April 2007 meaning there is 2 years there that they could have been added. From earliest records that I could find there is no indication that UW or FoW were included in Prophecies as they are never mentioned. GvG was included same with Heroes Ascent and Random Arenas.

Guild Wars 2 and The Secret World

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Suddenflame.2601

Suddenflame.2601

Just to establish something – I’ve played both games extensively. I like both. I enjoy both, and Guild Wars 2 is by far the better game overall, but there are a few lessons that could be learned from TSW to improve Guild Wars 2.

The Story and Characters of The Secret World are infinitely more interesting.

Even minor quest npcs express more personality in their brief dialogues than any character in Guild Wars 2 (with the possible exceptions of the mentors) does in their entire lifespan.

Funcom’s writing team is on a whole different level. Whoever did the dialogue for the game put just about every other MMO writing team to shame. And that’s unfortunate. Arenanet’s writing staff is talented. It just seems so underutilized. Ambient dialogue in Guild Wars 2 is excellent, but the personal story is just bad.

The Skill System of TSW is more free form

Oh, Guild Wars 2 has better combat. I like the fluid mobility of it. I like the lack of a trinity more than anything, but about the time you hit level 40, you’ve unlocked every skill you’ll use. Changing builds is a chore involving a travel time to respec and a farm for compatible gear. Not that you need to change builds – most professions have 2-3 viable builds maybe. Even if this wasn’t true, there is a general lack of variety in Guild Wars 2 build options because of the weapon system and the lack of weapons for that system – the Warrior being the only profession with a “good” weapon variety.

In The Secret World, your build is a combination of 7 skills and 7 passives from 2 weapons of your choice (consider a weapon to be equivalent to a class, as TSW has no classes and each weapon is a very different playstyle). You can eventually unlock every skill and trait on your character, allowing you to change your build at any moment. Sound familiar? Yes. TSW is closer to Guild Wars 1’s excellent skill system than Guild Wars 2 is.

Why the step down? I don’t know. The largest problem with Guild Wars 2, IMO, is the lack of build variety and the lack of convenience in swapping builds. It’s unfortunate, but the best and most defining mechanic of the first game was entirely scrapped for a new system that can make even a great combat system grow dull simply due to repetition.

Dungeon Design in TSW is (generally) better

Yes, I know Guild Wars 2 dungeons are being redesigned eventually, but it baffles me that most boss fights boil down to being bullet sponges with one-shot mechanics. There are exceptions, of course. Fractals was very well done, but most dungeons aren’t up to par.

The game needs boss fights with actual mechanics behind them – not insta-gibbers with enough hp to make you fall asleep at the keyboard.

That’s about all I have to say on the subject. Overall, Guild Wars 2 is an amazing game in almost every aspect, but it just falls so very short in a few aspects – aspects that an otherwise mediocre game by a mediocre development team managed to provide proper examples of.

From what I read of the reviews about Secret World that combat system your talking about isn’t that exciting. If you have a shotgun your stuck as a tank, machine gun dps and build combinations are predictable as almost everyone in the entire game plays their role the same.

This is just the reviews I never wanted to pay of sub for a game with a review like that so I can not say.

Why should players be punished for something a gold seller is doing? If this is the reason that shouldn’t be the players problem.

What’s your suggestion of a workaround, given the circumstances?

I don’t get paid to police this or any other game so solutions for dev issues isn’t my problem nor should they be any other customer/players problem.

Your missing his point all together. Your just whining and complaining without anything useful or resourceful to say. Small guilds are complaining sure but how useful was the vault transport in the first place? Far as I am concerned as a GM I never actually used one cause I never saw the need for one. Such as my personal bank golem I never them either cause there isn’t much need for them considering you can access your bank anywhere as is.

Only one I wish I could afford is permanent merchant express due to the constant need to sell stuff while in a dungeon or field. Like someone else said earlier Anet must have had its legitimate reasons for performing this increase in the price. There was an exploit that people were using that may have been a big issue. You keep saying that it hurts the smaller guilds more when it could actually effect the larger guilds as well. By making it cost merits it prevents certain large guilds from making huge quantities of it. Maybe the exploit occurs when a guild has a built a large number of them. This would explain the drastic increase of cost cause its the only way to fix guilds from buying so many.

There is usually more then one reason for an exploit it is not always from gold farmers. We do not know the circumstances surrounding the issue at hand and even if they did tell us. Only a small fraction (less than 1% of the entire community) would be able to figure out what it means due to coding tech.

I like to point out what should be obvious unless you have a tinfoil hat on.

So far you made nothing obvious other then lack of sense of devotion to a game. If I knew the issues plaguing a game that I liked I would be more then willing to provide solutions to the issues.

I wouldn’t run a F2P game that depended on gambling for revenue. If I wanted to make money from gambling I’d work at a casino. When mmos get into gambling then it seems issues like this become a problem for them that isn’t as big of an issue in a game with a sub.

A game with a Sub has more to worry about. Since their major source of income is users playing constantly they have to keep all the players interested. Prime example of a major failure of this is SWOTR. There is not many successful modern sub games out there and its only the legacy games such as Everquest and WoW that can keep going with a sub. There is far more successful FTP games out there then there is of sub games out there. Prime Example is League of Legends. When a sub game starts to fail they switch to an FTP model just to stay afloat. Games that start with FTP tend to know what they are doing in that business model.

Guild Wars 2 is not an FTP game as you are trying to claim. Its a Buy-to-Play (BTP) which is a different model similar to games of the past and present. Skyrim for instance is BTP along with most solo played games. The only other known BTP mmo is GWs 1 which is considered a commercial success.
