Bay would write a much better story, he’s not a bad writer but his detail lacks and he loves explosions too much, kinda like how Anet loves shoving Scarlet in our face and letting us smell what they consider right.
no, he really isnĀ“t a bad writer… because he is no writer whatsoever, he works as a director and a producer and has never written a single script to my knowledge.
Actually if I recall he does help with some of the writing but he isn’t the main writer.
My question is why Zodiac? The weapons have been out a while, I rarely see anyone with them so I’m confused why it wasn’t watchwork or toxic armor to go with the gloves/shoulders?

Latex fantasy oh yea
Everyone I know who were excited and boasting about Ascended gear were people who already had thousands of gold and mats. Now these people barely log in after finishing it, a few log in, annoy everyone around them in map chat and log out. The only two people I know who made ascended and still play are officers in my guild and they love GW not the grind, they just made the stuff because they been playing for so long.
My sisters want to play but told them they should wait for a sale, anyone know when sales normally happen?
Levels are stupid in a game like this. There never should have been levels but exp and skill points to learn and make your skills more powerful and to adjust your own personal stats.
I picked radiant and now i regret it -.- I shoulda picked hellfire.
Judging by the buffs they give and the LS, I’d say most main Norn warriors in t3 a few quiet types play Guardians and few play Sylvari mesmers, maybe most of them play Sylvari since they’re shoved into our face so much. O.o
Oh yes, I understand you. I’m at that point too, was excited bout my mesmer but now reading these forums I’m completely depressed about it. It seems like it’s all about Zerker and min/max to the MAX. Even when i was hardcore raiding on WoW years ago didn’t come across such a negative and obnoxious group of min/maxers like there are here.
The amount of new stuff people keep asking for and demanding is mind boggling considering the fact all you did was pay 60 bucks and got basically all the content for free. yet ppl still want MORE AND MORE.
Have spent over 1k hours in this game without spending one extra dollar in gem store…most games for 60 bucks you’ll be lucky to get 100 hours out of.
Stop bugging anet.. they have gone beyond the call of duty to supply us with a playable MMO…let them add content at w/e pace they want, it’s their game. You literally don’t have to pay them anything for this stuff…
Kids these days
You’re silly, if you pay for an all you can eat meal and yet they’ve not brought out most of the stuff they advertised than people will complain. It would be laughable to think that these people should have to pay more for something that they purchased already. Anet isn’t hurting for money off the game, people buy gems and stuff all the time. Look how much deco armor, perm mining stuff and other stuff they sold this year.
You are delusional if you think anet has not been bringing out new entree’s every so often for your meal analogy…Eat or get off the table, there’s plenty of other restuarants… anet already got the money from you… doubt they care THAT much that some people hate their “new dishes”
So hostile you are, you need to relax and realize not everyone is a fanboi. Anet has brought out updates and a lot of neato things but many people couldn’t care less about LS or seeing nerfs for their classes. People want to see new armor, weapons and things like that. I’m just saying not everyone will sit there forever and wait, they’re going to complain. Btw if you like the game so much, get off the forums and go play. Doubt Anet cares how much you love the game or defend it.

Yes there is a lack, and I’m sorry but I love my necromancer…COWER IN HER BEAUTY
But on topic, I feel as though I kind of like it as it makes characters like my necro stand out in the crowd. One valid argument is that the faces may seem unambiguous. Another is that people generally make their avatars similar to them so given a safely assumed demographic of the types of people that pay this game…..
I agree with you, had the human area been Elona and the majority black looking people would be asking where the white looking people are and the same discussion would come up. These topics are usually and endless cycle.
@Kimmekat
Well explained and i hope there are more players out there like yourself to help tyria remain more diverse :-D
diversity is great but kimmie sounds like she’s doing it out of obligation or she’ll feel bad for playing what she wants. That kind of bothers me when people do things for “political correctness” or for some kind of “moral obligation.” People should make what they want and not feel bad even if the game ended up being 90% purple charrs.
The thing is I don’t particularly think making a white character is “what I want” to play. What I want to play is a character who sparks a backstory for me. They’ll be pretty no matter what skin color they are because it’s a video game… So why would I want to make 5 chicks of Ascalonian descent when there’s the Krytans’ and Canthans’ and Elonians’ stories to explore? It’s the same reason having only human characters when I could be Sylvari or Norn or Asura (I admit I hold a grudge against Char from GW1) would bore me -shrug-
On the other hand, I do feel a moral obligation. I think of my characters as a cast and if my Persian or Philippino or Mexican friends saw that cast… I wonder would we have the same discussions critiquing lack of diversity in comics and television but this time it’s about my characters? I don’t want that, you’re right. I like to think of that less as guilt, because that feels very different to me. Maybe the word you’re looking for is “empathy”.
I don’t make characters based on guilt. I want every one of them for so many more reasons than just their skin color. Skin color is just a low priority choice in making my new character. My firsts question is “which class don’t I have a character for yet?” Then I’m thinking “is there a character of mine from GW1 that needs a relative?” And I pull lore from there along with which personal story selections I haven’t chosen yet. I don’t see why I should just default to white when I make such an effort to create diverse characters in every other respect.
Rest assured, all my characters are exactly what I want to play, but thank you for your concern.
Would your friends have the same diverse cast as you? Or would there cast all look the same? I understand what you mean, I think maybe your wording was a little off on what you meant so I was trying to understand what you were trying to say better. I think I may have misunderstood. I also don’t care much for Charr myself.

@ Kimeekat and UnseeN
Kimeekat: I agree
UnseeN: GW1, well…remember the ghostly hero’s planted around the game to include prophecies? They were Elonian and just as large as Norn. They may have had a tribe that traveled North or may have been apart of a tribe that traveled south. Being as I could do that my self on foot, I don’t think it’s too far fetched that it may have occurred over the span of history that the GW universe has.
So many directions you can go with made up lore. Anything can happen or even have happened.
Doesn’t matter if humans lived and did stuff with Norn for 5k years, there still wouldn’t be any children from it.
dont’ think it’s that bad for guardian. You got staff, and 2 skills which increase speed. So I can actually keep swiftness up most of the time.
mesmer I find much slower though.
Warrior has many ways to increase speed with traits for speed. guardian has to use utilities and a weapon that may not help that person’s build for theirs.
The hoods seem to be a winter thing. They may not be around for a while but hopefully they get put back up. Also Wanze, you’re rude and have a serious attitude problem. You could have ignored the thread or gave a simple reply to his question, instead you choose to sound like a know it all and toss around statements about rules and speak sarcastically. You’re what’s wrong with this forum community.

personally, I like playing unusual colours. But you don’t have that option. (can’t have a blue human for example XD …)
I also wonder statistically IF a quarter players are black. ..Is it more/less. What about the stats on individual servers?
I’d assume the majority of players would aim for a colour most like their own or someone they know. (things you’re used to, generally look better.)
There also isn’t a whole lot black NPC’s, again..which brings us back to “thing’s you’re used to seeing, look better”.
I highly doubt it’s that high but then again it doesn’t matter. It’s been pointed out by me and a few posters above who happen to be black that they do not always make dark skinned characters. Also there isn’t many black NPC’s because the human area isn’t Elona.
I’ve played many games with Hispanics and a few black friends. Not many of them make a character that looks like them, a woman I game with sometimes is black but 90% of the time her characters in game are usually white and sometimes white/black males. Really I don’t think there is any link at all to anything, people just make what they like because there is no judgement or stereotype/stigma attached.
Do shatter with that setup, it’s a lot of fun.
Have any links or anything or ideas, gear type?? I’m here to learn from you all!
(edited by Sunshine.4680)
I have absolutely no idea what you want help with. Do you know how to use a staff? Great! Just great. What build you use it with is irrelevant – both power and condition works fine.
Oh yea just saying staff is overall really fun just.. unsure what build with it is all. I look at staff and see condi and power stuff and I get confused.
Hi, just wanted to thank everyone for poking in. Right now I’m using staff main, clone build. Staff clones appear to be the strongest, able to stack conditions and be a pain in the butt. I’ve also been using sword/torch offhand, dropping staff clones and then leaping in to use prestige, do a little AA and then staff to back out.
My question is, what type of build should I run? Shatter? Straight up condi stacking? I’m really confused, I was a phantom build before but phantom builds are mind numblingly boring. any help would be appreciated.
I think all phantoms but the Mage have a theme to them, Warlock confuses me as to why it holds a scepter but whatever. It should have it’s own form of winds of Chaos, condi based Phantom which attacks slightly faster and applies one of four conditions:
Bleed x2
Poison
Burning
Confusion
Can bounce between targets like chaos winds does and gives a random boon when it crits to nearby allies:
Retaliation
Aegis
Small heal
condi Clear
I didn’t notice that it pulsed a lot. Bah this makes it hard -.- No wonder I couldn’t match it right.
Trying to figure out that color, cannot seem to find a good match with the dyes. Anyone know what specific color it is?
Scarlet just makes me feel meh, after reading the journals and they’re trying to salvage her by saying she’s controlled makes me even more apathetic to her and her plight. She’s not worth saving and has no redeemable qualities what so ever. The fact she’s a bumbling moron would make me worry she’d screw everything up and the Dragons (Wherever they are.) would run rampant.
I kind of wish they would make a more original bad guy, one who isn’t crazy, has a bad past etc, bad parents yadda yadda. There is too much of that, I’d like to see a villain who can be considered a hero or a villain depending whom you talk to. Look at Ghengis Khan, some consider him a legendary hero and others consider him a genocidal maniac. That’s the kind of villain I want. One who’s motive is based on personal need and what they consider necessary, one who works on cold logic. An example would be two factions keep fighting each other, no peace in sight.. solution, destroy them both. That sort of logic and leadership.
Make people question themselves on if the villain’s judgement is sound or flawed.
When I see rangers, I think to myself… “It’s too bad there isn’t pvp in pve. I hate pvp but I’d sure love to kill every ranger I see.” No I am kidding but most people HATE rangers, I just find playing a ranger frustrating your LB/SB aren’t that great despite that they advertise them as such when you make one. The pets still have that laughable outdated family tree crap which gimps 90% of them so people use the same junk pets. And the sword that roots you in combat.
Why is it that people feel they have to sit around. Go do a few events, gather some stuff, kill a few things….you know that is playing the game, even if it’s not doing the dungeon you want to do, or sitting in WvW.
Or don’t do the event. That’s how it was designed because it does need a massive amount of people. There’s no easy answer to this problem.
Anet can’t allow infinite numbers of people on a server, because the lag would be too bad to play. Anet COULD make event so that there were no big and interesting ones, but that wouldn’t be good for the game.
Anet could put the game in an instance and most people who didn’t have big guilds wouldn’t bother playing them, as is the case in most games with raids.
So what’s the answer. You bring up a problem but I’m not sure I see a solution to it.
I’m confused do you mean stay in the zone you’re in and do events or travel around and wait right before Mari or Wurm? Because if you leave you’re going to be stuck in overflow. There is a reason why people are camping an hour or more ahead to get to these bosses or else it wouldn’t happen at all. Because I have to get there at least 45 minutes early or else it’s a fail overflow group. Few of our guildies were in with us, left and got stuck in overflow with a fail.
Most days I can do my entire daily in that zone. I have multiple characters. I can take a character each day and work on zone completion if I want. There are things you can do.
Admittedly they may not be the absolutely most exciting stuff in the game, but you’re still getting drops, you’re still harvesting, still getting karma…you’re working on whatever you’re working on…you’re just staying in the zone.
It’s not perfect, but it’s certainly not bad. My point is you don’t have to stand their and wait.
No I get what you mean, I thought you meant leave the zone and come back. I was going to say that just gets you in overflow. When I’m camping I watch tv or do events and run around the area, it’s pretty big. Now I’m not confused about what you meant.
Lets see, 2 wins on overflow and 1 win on home server (just now). Came 20 or so min before each event. Did some scouting to see which lanes needed people and then the event started. Not a single wait for me anywhere near an hour.
Wow I have zero wins in overflow, several friends of mine are 1-2/10 on overflow attempts and they came about 30min or so ahead at times and still got overflowed, depending on time of day. You must be super duper special.
levels are stupid and pointless, keeps people from trying out all classes/race combos because it’s so tedious.
Why is it that people feel they have to sit around. Go do a few events, gather some stuff, kill a few things….you know that is playing the game, even if it’s not doing the dungeon you want to do, or sitting in WvW.

Looks great, good job. Not all attention seeking type, you look true to the Norn look. Very classy.
This is what I want, Scarlet to show up. Act all tough and then Destiny’s Edge shows up in a giant Asuran made air craft and it cuts to a scene with Logan narrating this: “Destiny’s Edge has arrived, and it is now that we fulfill our charge. In fealty to Tyria (our sacred home), and by the grace of the Dwayna, I declare exterminatus upon the City of Lion’s Arch. I hereby sign the Death Warrant of an city, and consign a million quaggan souls to oblivion. May Kormir’s justice account in all balance. Balthazar protects.”
Then boom no more Scarlet or Quaggans running around bugging you for help. >.>
So the jungle dragon is controlling her. How original.
They won’t give up on trying to make the majority of players like her. I mean it’s at desperation jar jar binks time with Scarlet.
Problem is the game already has elitism in it. You make these raids instanced and turn a game where skins were supposed to be the reward into a gear reward type situation you’re going to lose a lot of your player base as the game isn’t solid enough to be a raiding type game like WoW is in that area. It will end up being elite guilds with nobody else around to see how “good” these guys are.
Should it rather have been called World of Tyria: Cataclysm?
Oh wait…
The dragons do remind me of that WoW expansion..
I have no idea but as my staff condi mesmer I end up tanking and things and bosses just chase me around for whatever reason. Best way to tank in this game is to have a little bit of CC and to stay alive.
Honestly, I don’t see this as being such a hindrance to my Blackwater build, I will still keep most of my condition pressure and damage, it might be a bit annoying, but go figure, I guess all anet can do is nerf things that don’t need to be nerfed, instead of properly balancing classes across the game.
What concerns this is the implications for other builds, namely shatter specs, which, are already being used less and less (from what I have seen) and the vigor nerf is pretty bad as well, completely un-necessary (the guardian vigor nerf even more so, they already at the bottom in the hp pool, the vigor was some of the only pieces evening it out)
Their grasp on HP pools is confusing, I played a thief and a guardian and finally gave up because you have to balance things just right on certain mobs etc. Where as warriors and necros can face tank and don’t even really need to dodge. The balance team makes me cry.
Personal Thoughts(On your reactions):
I’m not saying people shouldn’t voice their concerns, but have some general respect. I understand that everyone wants the game to be enjoyable and perhaps the developers don’t all play or understand a specific class to the fullest. Do you think each of the developers has the time to play each class the same? How many hours have you put into mastering Mesmer? They have lives and they have to think and develop this game in the same amount of time that all of us fit our lives and work habits into. Would you really want people to disrespect you for what is likely a decision by a team as a whole? Would you listen to people that are disrespectful? In order to PvP effectively, I know almost every single skill on every single class and how it works. I know all the class mechanics. I know how to counter them. I know these because I want to play well.
As balance devs, it is THEIR JOB to know what I know as a PvP player. That is what they do. They balance this game. How can they possibly hope to balance if their knowledge is not equal to that of PvPers?
They give trophies for being last place now, you don’t need to know your job to have a job anymore!
Where are these notes at?
(…)
- Darker nights can then be used to allow for new mobs to spawn with unique drops and for unique night time events to kick off.(…)
I played another game that had something like that. All this particular point would do is add yet another timer to the game. Personally I would go without this part.
I read that and what came to mind was: “Oh blessed Tunare, Kithicor Woods again?” For those who don’t know the tale . . .
There was a game called EverQuest which had a day/night cycle. During which in certain areas you were . . . in professional terms “completely boned” if you didn’t have some form of night vision in forest areas. Many human newbie characters died to secure this as one of the fundamental pieces of every character’s “Survival Kit” of abilities. “Must get night vision” was on there, along with “some method of water breathing”. But I digress slightly.
Now, in this game there was a massive GM event which ended with what was called “Bloody Kithicor”. The evil faction and the good faction on a continent met in combat in one of the more underutilized zones which happened to be a forest right outside one race’s starting city. There were GM-spawned NPC soldiers for both sides, there was a big battle and it ended when the evil side dropped what was a magical equivalent of a neutron bomb and killed everything alive in the woods except those fortunate enough to be protected. This was “Bloody Kithicor”, and it is well known to veterans of that game who lived through it. (I was out of town and unable to participate.)
As a result, in the aftermath . . . by day the forest was dark as usual (i.e., bring your light sources)and populated by the usual forest denizens. When the sun went down? Out come the really high level undead who have faster movement speed than unbuffed characters, will follow you the entire length of the zone, and some of them have a one-shot instant damage spike which can wreck anyone lower level than them.
In short? You stayed out of Kithicor Woods after sundown. You made that journey only with speed buffs and only if you were confident in your ability to identify and duck those spike-tossing undead.
This was not, as could be said, a popular change. But it definitely left a mark!
I seem to remember though reading an answer to this a long time back, along the lines that it was darker in beta but people did not like it, got changed etc. But take this with a grain of salt, it’s been a while.
It’s generally said if you have to choose between immersion and playability, you should decide which exactly is more important for your game before chucking one or the other. This is also noted in games where realistic need for food and water was considered but left on the floor after betas.
This place was great, dangerous and scary. Best way as a human to see was to get a large light stone for your invo. I wish there were more zones like this in games but nooo it’s too hard etc.
Sounds like it could possibly be dragon related then! O.O
Nah everybody hopes its a dragon. I’m rooting for her in becoming our ally and joining that new group forming up that has Rox and Braham in it. They still need a sylvari
I hope not, enemies becoming allies is so played out. I also wonder if every group HAS to have one of every race in it, seems silly.
I don’t think the problem is zerkers but the fact that mobs really only do a few things, have tons of HP and knockdown/charge crap and frustrate you. I can see why people go full zerk because dealing with some bosses for long is just a pain in the butt. Mobs need to do more than knockdown and have high hp.
Skills tied to weapons is bad design for a game that brags about skins being the end game. I mean GS is a great dps weapon but I hate them with a passion. Doesn’t mean I wouldn’t mind some of the skills for my hammer, then I’d really use all 5 skills often.
Chaos winds are great for buffing and plaguing enemies with debuffs, staff damage is underrated and it’s abilities too. Wish they had better cooldowns on some the skills but I’ve always had great use with staff.
fighting those mobs is annoying, best to grab present and run away.
Like I said, it’s the krytan gemshop armor top and the bottom is the gemshop medium viper armor. It shows up as a skirt.
Skirt is viper, top is krytan both are gemshop armor sets.
