Please, for a love of whatever of the GW God’s you choose…get a test server. It is just unacceptable to me personally to see an entire game get unbalanced and the community have to play the waiting game until things are corrected.

This happens, because as bright as the people balancing things are, they simply cannot predict what is going to happen in a mass environment with live players. Can run all the algorithms in the world and that won’t stop a few players from devising a way to totally ruin the game.

Also, I don’t think we should pin this on conditions being too strong. I think everything is too strong.

I understand that this would be helpful but in the absence of a test server, which is our current situation, we will do as much as we can as fast as we can. We made some changes today and more will be coming as the week goes on. After that our intention is to make balance and bug fix changes to this stuff every couple of weeks leading up to the release of HoT.

Also, not everything is too strong, just all forms of damage.

You’re wrong dear Jon, the ones complaining are the ones used to run super tanky specs, they were not used to dodging…they were used to stack toughness/protection and healing and zerg from point A to point B.

For the love of god Jon, do not nerf the dmg, if any change are truly necessary, pls be moderate, I don’t think many people would like the idea of going back to cele meta bunker game

Fresh air with blind on burning

The combo has been available for months now, maybe over a year, blinding ashes and burning precision even got their icd’s increased.

Problem is now 6/6/6 is available for everyone.

Honestly Fresh air Eles with blinding ashes have a terrible design, a ton of instant damage with a ton of blind.

I’ve spectate a lot 1vs1 duel arena and i can say is really broken right now.

And the traits are both worthless outside ….duelling, so very few will cry if you go asking to nerf them, they do little to nothing where the game counts : team fights, zerg fights( which is 95% of the game), so….keep going

I don’t play ele at all so I am not educated on what they are capable of BUT:

I just finished a round pitted up against an ele that must have been a total bunker troll build but we had 3 full zerkers trying against her including my full glass LB pew pew zerk ranger and that ele did not die.

It was literally a PLETHORA of my hits coming up as:

And they just healed. They healed like absolute crazy. It’s as if my hits were healing them. Seriously. I swear this is broken. No one could kill them. :/

You were all zerker so..this was your problem, the solution is condition application, this will force those eles to switch to water, that’s your call for direct damage application

This is a list of condis highly effective against eles :confusion, torment, poison and immobilize, when facing multiple eles, it’s advisable to have ample access to 1-2 of these condis.

Still that “immune” ..sounds like you were running condi/zerker mix, in this case, the problem was this http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Diamond_Skin.

It’s easier relatively to take care of, you just need to pressure them so much as to force them into water, there apply your biggest spike. Now eles can spec full water/arcana so even after breaking diamond skin, you still have to deal with condi clear so just keep up with the same procedure.

Damagewise it got kind of ridiculous.
Running a tanky amulet or not make sonly minimum difference as it seems. A friend and I tested (though I admit the tests weren´t too excessive) mesmeer burst on engineer with soldiers amulet, cele and marauder. Just the usualy shatter mesmer burst combo, nothing fancy:
1 Shatter and Marauder was downed or very low. On Cele 2k life left and on soldiers 4.5k.
Admittedly, the tests were veeeery rough and not exact at all (because of some defensive traits, runes etc) but tanky amuletts seem to be not as useful as they used to be o.o
Though I take that with a grain of salt, the meta is only 1 day old…

Also…. yup, who sees first, bursts first, wins. Almost every class can now dish out ridiculous burst tah could bfore never be thought of in pvp… (okayokay 100nades engi used to be a thing… used to… I tell ya the burst is back! xD)

And before an engi was able to facetank damage from anything but two above average DPS users and that was even more BS.

If i’d have to put this in numbers:

-Before damage was 3 and defense was 7
-Now damage is 8 and defense is 4
-Now the devs should not nerf the damage to 4 , they should limit it to 6, this to maintain a healthy balance between fun and gameplay

Tanky builds work as usual…just now you can’t stack protection/toughness and go take a walk in the park like before…right now shoutbow, engies and the rest need to actually dodge the damage…finally

Just pls Devs! I’m having a blast, finally able to finish a fight within secs instead than spend “half day” , playing boring matches against full bunker teams sitting on point.
For the love of god, have mercy on my liver ; for months I had to endure the suffering brought down by those ridiculous premades running double shoutbow/engi or double guardian, not even with a freaking zerk staff I had enough damage to down a single one of them, tanky as hell with kittenload of healing

Just think about it! People want to see fast fights, true esport fans don’t enjoy neverending fights, do not bring back the snoozefests.

I can finally spec and see actual damage, i can finally down those bunkers that seemed to never die, premade or not.

Sure some things like burning scaling , celestial and other will need a revision but overall the patch is great; the direct damage increase is fabulous, it will bring forth a new meta.

Players may finally learn the meaning of rotations and leave behind the old notion of “toughness and protection stacking then zerg from point A to B”.

Just no knee jerk nerfs pls

Spec fire with marauder, pick burning fire, go air pick lightning rod, take both traits to reduce fire/air skills, then go for water/cantrip + LF, AE and MF……begin the carnage, basically you can decimate the enemy team within seconds…insane.( up to 3k dmg on interrupts alone O_O)

Sure an enemy thief may break the fun, but at 17k HP ( i take melandru runes) you c an absorb at least one hit.

yeah I just did a full burn s/f condi ele build. It’s really funny vs anything but ele (diamond skin seems like the norm now). Basically just prep with earth 2, then drop all fire skills and reactivate earth 2 through fire field, + signet of fire and it’s like 12 stacks of burning. You can take glyph of elemental power and just auto attack in fire with scepter for 6k burning stack per auto attacks lol

So you just auto-attack in fire ..and win…a clear indication of the opponents you’re facing, no pun intended, also you take 30k dmg in 5s? how much HP have you got?

Sick thread…I’d rather delete my close to 4k hours ele than take a warhorn as main offhand, as a matter of fact I’d just say CYA it has been a pleasure. Only the idea of getting another off hand makes me cringe…

We need burst not more support/condi…seriously warhorn..what a sick joke, at this point I’d rather pick a pistol or axe..anything but a freaking warhorn.

The devs find themselves between the hammer and the nail, they can’t really overnerf or overbuff the cele amulet, the concept itself is part of gw2 gameplay, removing cele amulet would not remove hybrid professions from gw2 and as such hybrid builds ( capable of doing a bit of everything ) would still be present; personally I don’t think cele build will dominate pvp more than now ( if everything they will be less present ), we have now enough amulets to make things more interesting for everybody

Yes they can be more tanky than before but they won’t have the healing to sustain that tankiness unless they take healing power runes thus making them less dps/bunker oriented; eles use Signet of restoration as main healing skill, which is 100% healing power based( respect to warrior healing signet which will get nerfed anyway), the overall capability of cele eles to recover from damage will go down, not by lot but it’ll go down

Cele builds won’t go anyway, they’ll still be somehow strong, but stronger than now?..definitely not

Hey guys and gals,

I was wondering who else is going to be crazy and try a zerker build in pvp with these changes? I’m looking forward to it, but I’m not sure how to make it work yet, I’ll have to see. But with the ability to spec 100% damage, I plan on stomping on some people (not literally stomping as that would be nearly suicide with 11k hp).

I’m thinking either a staff massive aoe damage build with frost bow and elemental storm.

Or maybe a s/f (fire/air/earth).

This is going to be a fun week. Although, I’ll probably settle into a better build once the smoke settles, but the rage will be real before they remember how to sneeze my way.

I think marauder would be more suitable as ele can easily make up for the difference between the two amulets, it’s pointless for an ele to go zerker over marauder

they use 3-stat as baseline…. that’s where the old ~ 37% and the new ~30%. So compared to 3-stat, completely disregarding any other stats (which you should when talking about amulet-balance), the math is sound.

Old stats:

with 3-stat as baseline: 100/2232 = 0.0448
Now multiplied with cele-stats = 0.0448 * 3066 = ~137%

New Cele- Stats, again with 3-stat as basline: 100/3000 = 0.3 —> 0.3 * 3920 = ~130%

130<137
New<old
—> compared to what other amu’s provide, celestial amu got nerfed. QED!

But it didnt. This is the mistake anet made. They made your view and tried to nerf it using very weak reasoning. In reality celestial has a bigger stat advantage than before as I proved in the OP. Nothing else matters and is a technicality.

You proved nothing in the OP…. show me exactly how you calculated it and I’ll change my view if it’s accurate.

OK,

Specs with celestial amulet used to get these stats:
Roughly 1000 stats from trait lines (often more) = 1000
From celestial amulet = 3066 (438*7)

Specs with, say, carrion amulet used to get these stats:
Roughly 1000 stats from trait lines (often more but lets be conservative and say 1k) = 1000
From carrion amulet = 2232

Total stats of specs with celestial amulet = 4066
Total stats of specs with carrion amulet = 3232
Difference in stats = 834
Percentage difference = 834/3232 = 25.8%

After patch:
Specs with celestial amulet = 3920
Specs with carrion amulet = 3000
Difference in stats = 920
Percentage difference = 920/3000 = 30.67%

Previous difference in stats when using celestial amulet vs when not using cele amulet = 25.8%
After patch difference in stats when using cele amulet vs when not using cele amulet = 30.67%

Therefore celestial amulet will provide an even bigger stat advantage post patch.

You’re purposely misleading people using a set of obscured information, we all get the number increase but you refuse to acknowledge the ramifications of this number changing, thus removing the most important aspect which is : balance.

All cele build will be significantly weaker after patch because sustain stats you currently get from traitlines will be gone and the amulet alone, even with the buffs will not be enough to guarantee the same level of survivability that we get now; the devs just made sure the amulet would still be somehow usable in PvP, only not overly present as now.

As I have said we all get your point, it’s correct but it’s pointless as you only speak in a vacuum anyway

Irrelevant opinions. That is a balance discussion. I am not interested in balance discussions. I am just stating a FACT. That they tried to nerf celestial specs but now those specs will have a larger percentage stat advanatge than before the patch.

You’re making a moot point, yes sure in terms of numbers celestial amulet got obviously buffed ( 438 to 560 ) but in terms of overall balance, the cele spec got hit quite hard ( especially ele that counts on healing/boon duration even more than shoutbow and rifle enfi) so really your whole thread is pointless

Current cele ele has like close to 800 healing and 536 toughness, after patch cele ele will have 560 healing and 560 toughness, where is the buff?Also current cele ele has 17k+ HP, after patch it’ll have little more than 16k HP, no boon duration, condi dmg has the same deal as toughness.

@Morwath is right, cele will gain no buffs to defense but rather in offense, by contrast the nerfs will come for their defense and these nerfs will be tough

Stone heart only works with tanky specs, anything with toughness above 1700 in my opinion, I tried few builds against well played thief and mesmer in a duel and ..yes, fresh air with stone heart is a waste of traits , you only avoid crit not the dmg itself that will still hit for a lot at low levels of toughness/healing

Blocks to synergy with Runes of Guardian and new burning stacking in intensity.
Resistance, to not be so obligated to condi cleansing from water, much of to not be obligated to condi cleasing, we don’t have transfer nor converting.

Yes the tempest should gain access to resistance in case we lose arcana, we need that condi clear so badly, especially after the 23th June and the fact that our specialization will be stuck at mele range

A list of elements , Tempest will need to be considered competitive in any instance, be it PvP or WvW.

assumptions = tempest will replace arcana or air, eles get to use swords

[Weapon]

First of all, the Tempest will need to offer something not accessible to normal eles and this something must be alluring to get, a pose a serious threat for normal eles.
Taking in consideration the theme of our specialization, a lightning based mastery, then I think that tempest should gain access to confusion in a moderate way , 3-4 stacks on a 20-25s CD skill with no less or more than 3/4s cast; to remember that tempest will still retain the use of burning, bleed and chill.

Secondly, I expect this specialization to be of the bursty type, therefore boon ripping is a necessity, assuming that we get a sword then we will have a burst spec stack at mele range with no ways to range the enemy, should he starts to use a buttload of boons like protection and similar

Third point , in combat mobility, again I take in consideration the thematic aspect of Tempest, an instant medium range teleport to enemy is at 100% a must, the CD should be in the 10-15s range and it must require a target (no RTL on 15s CD sorry), like thief teleports, we should be able to partially ignore the z axis restrictions
Also a reduced version of burning retreat would be great, something to temporarily move away from danger.

The base will remain the same, now more than ever, you will need water/arcana always as the condi spamm will get worst, on the zerker side, thieves will get a 1200 range steal + executioner/panic strike all in one go you’d get obliterated in no time, not counting the buffed mesmers and lb rangers.

If before zerker ele was unviable..now more than ever, save zerker staff in WvW and PvE, forget about scepter is a trash weapon set for PvP and PvE..everything counts.

Btw Eles had access to burning since GW1 launch and just in every other MMO out there now with an elementalist class in it, if there is somebody who stole burning..that would be necro

I simply can’t imagine the mayhem that we’ll experience next week, the amount of QQ threads will reach a record number within few hours from the release of the patch and this will possibly last for days ( if not weeks ).
With this said, I wish the forum mods, best of luck for the upcoming days, I don’t envy your position and the least I can do is to remove myself from the list of possible problems, this works both ways as I save myself few infractions and your workload is reduced.

To the community , this is the message : Everyone is OP..so nobody really is..perfect balance

To those who will remain on the forum even after the 23th June, I pray that you will “survive”, so that you may one day say this to your grandkids :" I was there…during the GW2 Flame wars..and I survived the conflict"

While your complaints might have some merit, be thankful every minute of you life that you aren’t Necromancer right now. Imagine if Fiery Greatsword did 10k damage of burning to you if you used it for the full duration, or if your heal was nerfed, applied a ton of vuln to you every time you used it and the only way to make it slightly better made it apply more conditions to you. On top of that, imagine having two places on the same build with Elemental Attunement vs Evasive Arcana kind of problems.

They may have not given us the best of the changes, but be thankful that they didn’t nerf us like necro.

I do agree with you, we may not be the best around but we still have the tools to do some serious dmg while having fun

This is my personal opinion: The meta won’t change, the TOP team will still run double warrior ( shoutbow or new hambow) or double engi and at least one med guardian, fewer teams will run double med guardian.

Thief will be ever present in every single team and Mesmer will see much more play respect to now, Ranger will remain more or less the same, you’ll see this class a little more often and finally Elementalist , the changes did not do much for the status quo, no updates on weapon skills and utilities, at most ele will see a similar level of play respect to now, at worst ele will keep falling out of favour

Im sorry… Power necro more survivable then S/F fresh air? If you have a decent ele playing S/F it can be quite a bit of a challenge to kill them, with all of the invulns, reflects, and blocks…no Im sorry.

You’re wrong.
The “good” fresh air eles seems to be “unkillable” because they’re good at running when anybody sneeze in their direction, but once you run away…you then realize..that the enemy has just achieved their objective and nobody will care if you’re still alive or not because you were not able to do your job and your team just lost the team fight.

Once focused a fresh air has zero sustain once the long cd invulnerability is gone and all that is left to do is for you to run, if you remain you’ll just insta die

Maybe somebody knows the answer or maybe we’ll have to wait, but yes the current radius is 360, this force the ele to sit on top of one ally to share an aura, anything less than 600 radius and the trait is pointless.

Check if you want, but actually you can share shocking aura from tempest defense and that fire aura from signets.

The fire aura from signet rely on a trait, no deleted, the only ways to get fire aura are:

-Focus
-D/X leap on fire field
-6 Fire ( by swapping into fire)

Signet builds are dead…all jump on the cantrip train…-_-

Lets contemplate. Fire Aura triggers when hit right? Spread the burning and all.

  • Signet of Earth SNARES your opponent with immobilize. Perfect for setting up an attack rather than wanting to be attacked. Making Fire Aura less useful.
  • Signet of Water CHILLS, once again, snares are not a sign for “please hit me” but rather “move I’m going to hit you hard” not good for Fire Aura.
  • Signet of Fire burns, which, makes getting Fire Aura kinda pointless.

The ONLY two worthy signets are Signet of Air and Signet of Restoration with Fires Embrace.

Fires Embrace was a noobs trap like Elixir Infused bombs, sounds good on paper but in reality is was very, very worthless.

Also, Cantrip Train? LOL, you can base an Elementalist skill level on how many Cantrips they have. The more Cantrips, the more unskilled the ele. I have a buddy who is an FA ele carrying Signet of Earth, Gylph of Storms and Arcane Shield. And yeah, he kills people and does it very well. He doesn’t need 3 cantrips to survive and guess what? Neither do I. Arcane Blast, Lava Axe and Lightning Flash is all I need.
Yeah, Lava Axe, it’s a pretty amazing weapon conjure. I cannot tell you how many times Lava Axe saved me and killed people.

Do you know that aura on signets meant protection on signets? You have missed this point

Amulets/Gear changes by 30%

Basically all gear (amulet in pvp and rest in wvw) get increased by 30% pts on stats

Ex : carrion amulet now gives 650 vitality, add 30% and you get roughly another 200 vitality, to this final number add the new base stats( 926+74 ) and you get in the end the equivalent of 300 vitality investment…whichever line you choose..^^

Necromancers were close to immortal in beta. Does it mean they should be that way again?

For what ele is getting something like Fire embrace seems worth losing.

But what you’re getting is not increasing build diversity, it’s simply replacing A for B, you still have a single letter. A condi build and zerk build I feel are necessary these days to guarantee the success of your profession..and with Fire Embrace gone, the future of condi ele is uncertain

Alright, alright. I feel the need to clarify since it’s being mentioned a lot here. Powerful Auras already works with Fire’s Embrace right now, and I seriously doubt it’s the main reason the trait is being removed.

I believe the reason was due to the reshuffling of the traits. Had conjurer been the fire aura trait, the new mastery line essentially trades out Ember’s Might (+25% burn duration) for the newly buffed Blinding Ashes, which would’ve been incredibly OP alongside all of the bonus goodies the earth line is getting (and an entirely new third line as well).

I’m sad to see Fire’s Embrace snubbed out entirely as well though. Had it been competing with 2 other useful fire traits (such as the aforementioned Blinding Ashes), I thought that would be fair.

You are missing the point. it doesn’t matter the why, it matters that it twas removed.

I did get the point. I said that I didn’t like seeing the trait go and that it should’ve stayed in competing with other strong traits. Hell, I wrote up an entire MetaBattle page and made a twenty minute video featuring signet elementalist, so trust me when I say that I’m disappointed the trait is gone.

However, when half of the thread is talking about PA being a possible reason for the removal, I felt like I should correct it.

Yes man, that’s exactly the build that I’ve been using for the last 4 months with success in wvw, the build was an absolute blast; I can’t describe my happiness when I discovered that I was finally able to insta kill those scrubs running aids/cancer perma stealth builds….and also I was able to kill those annoying troll nike wars.

All this is now gone…and I’m back to square 1, using cantrip d/d and taking half day to possibly kill one of those stealth/nike trolls; the problem was/is that these scrubs just run away when losing and then come back, nothing you can do on ele to catch them…that’s where the ember ele shined, a 1200 range condi burst on short cd, you can’t run from that.

Hope something else will come up, will try variations of the builds; we do still get fire aura on fire swap so…not all is lost

Removing the ICD from fresh air is truly kittened..but oh well…after the removal of fire embrace( which has killed all signet builds), I’m not surprised about anything…

Still no info on amulet/stats changes

I was expecting to receive precise info regarding this important subject..but nothing, the traits and balance changes are nice and all but..what about the stats changes, amulets and more? Where will I get the 300 vit/toughness from now?

I think this deserves a thread cause I wannnnaaaaaaa know what you guys think about the recent changes to this trait Geomancers Defense.

Originally

It was going to be 20% dmg reduction within 600 range

Now

10% dmg reduction within 360 range (little bit longer then a lightening whip attack)

At first I thought this trait was going to be a little bit strong, but now I think they over nerfed it. Would be nice to have a public test server >_>.

I think there should be something in the middle ex:
Either 10% dmg reduction at 600 range or 20% dmg at 360 range

Also they did mention they changed the ICD to Soothing Ice from 10 seconds to 20 seconds which made me do the kitten motion to my computer screen >_>

I think 15 seconds would be more reasonable

The old geomancer’s defense as not OP mind you, go and check duffy gw2 spec calc. You’ll see the majority of profession have gained toughness boost related traits in what previously their own version of earth line, basically they gain same level of defense as they’d gain now by taking 300 toughness, hope I’ve been clear.

Overall yeah as I explained weeks ago, geomancer’s defense was not a buff but rather a cleverly disguised conversion of 300 toughness , but with the nerf the overall toughness gain is like 140 for maxing the earth line..yeah..a huge nerf

It might be because of the new Powerful Aura. Currently PA only affects auras from your weapon skills. The new PA has been reworded to “When you apply an aura to yourself”. Hopefully this means auras you gain via Leaps, Blasts and runes too. I think this is why they got rid of Fire’s Embrace; the group uptime on Protection/Fury/Swiftness would be pretty OP otherwise.

At least, that’s what I think.

The old PA was share aura from weapon set, kk but we had signet aura build; now the PA gives any kind of aura but they’ve removed a way to obtain auras outside weapon skills, I may be seeing at it in a wrong way but wth did they even buff it for then?
