Don’t get me wrong, me server will probably be above 300 anyway but rewarding players for stacking on high pop servers while others can’t even afford a single skin after 2 months of hard work would seem a bit off.
But that’s exactly what’s going to happen. You’ll only get one of these if your server is placed 5th or better. Anet and their reward system.
Really makes you want to play… anything else.
I told them to reward the lowest scoring servers the most, but did they listen? I’m just a player, what do I know?
THANK YOU for finally covering WvW on the Twitch show!
maybe its a bit early to say this but it feels like the meta is even worse than before
cond spam engi with balthazar runes is a bad joke. fought one with my cleanse-them-all ele and still died. in that fight i recieved 42k burning damage and some other condition damage.
decap engi 2.0 with turrets. knocks you off point with thumper or simply detonating any turret while recieving all the boons from the new grandmaster. low hp? np make a water field and detonate them all =>full hp
necro with nightmare runes. not much to say here, you can fear certain classes from 100 to 0 hp.
hambow still as strong as before. nerf the stun damage by 5%? np runes of strength make up for that.
condition warrior. condition burst and you’re down in no time.
spirit rangers still as forgiving. i still see a lot of pew pew spam shortbow 1 spirit rangers that still do decent although they suck. player skill helps against bad spirit rangers but against good ones? and if the ranger dies he can simply use the elite spirit on himself if he’s got the timing right. why should you be able to res yourself in an instant?
minion mancer. minions deal too much damage while the player himself doesnt have to do much and is tanky. fix immobilize stacking… minions block attacks/projectiles and mess with AoE
all in all there is more condition spam after this balance patch which is very bad imo. im not touching my thief anymore because i simply cant cleanse anything on that class. even on my ele i cant cleanse the conditions fast enough although i run tripple cantrips + regen + cleanse on regen and regen when critical hit + water skills.
Look on the bright side: Guardians are in a good place.
Purgatory.
For the Points per Tick idea, why not make keeps start off giving low number of points and the longer you control it the more points it accumulates. That would prevent the LETS CAP EVERYTHING AND THEN LEAVE IT TO DIE! I started enjoying playing defense on my side of the map instead of zerging….
This is an interesting idea.
It’s brilliant and it’s inventor deserves a star.
It’s not over yet! There’s still time for a last minu… who am I kidding?
It would be nice, though, if at least some of the matches were closer coming into the final day.
Map…..don’t make me laugh.
Do you know what a Road Map is?
The WvW community requires that there be two dedicated members of staff working on WvW at Arenanet.
If it’s just one person, they’ll gets ostracised from the rest of “The Competitive Team” as the weird WvW person. They get ignored and their opinions devalued.
I believe this is what happened to Devon Carver. You never see him on Ready Up, yet as WvW’s sole representative, he should be on EVERY show.

warriors are new beatable
I stopped after reading this.
What we really need is Warrior Hit points and Warrior Heal Signet.
What we need is to be Warriors.
The Warrior only has higher health regeneration when Healing signet is slotted. Granted, Healing signet is grossly strong, but Guardians have health regeneration from the start of the game, at all times, and can give it to others as well.
Warrior’s Adreanal Health trait… now that’s another story.
Stop making excuses. The wiki has LIED and must be punished!
Is that the spawned weapon? Does ANet even have the letters Q and A in their alphabet?
yes its the spawned weapon and it must be broken or something..
a single skill that hits for 8k on heavy armor in PVP where you don’t have food/buffs etc etc and low ferocity.. something is wrong with that skill..
The guardian did not want to tell but he even says it hits 12k on most classes.
that’s insane for a PET!!!heavy armor/light armor/medium armor makes absolutely zero difference when it comes to how much damage you take. Its about which amulet you are using, not what armor you have that determines how resilient you are.
The realism of this game draws me in!
Come on, warrior is so weak, buff it more, MORE, MOAAAARRRRRRRRR
I like having them blacked out along with Litany of Wrath.
“The guardian is in a good place.”
The already overpowered godlike master-class, Warrior, got massive boosts this patch. This is frankly bullkitten.
I think they listen far too much to Josh Grouch. On every single broadcast he did, he suggested to the devs that Guardians were in a good place. Then they employed him! /facepalm

We’re working on it and it’s just around the corner and coming soon.
All things are relative. WvWers are being engineered into Zen masters.
WvW is not allowed to have nice things. That’s why we’re the red-headed gametype which has no access to dungeon skins.
A: Just make ascended stuffs.
/end_of_thread
Where does a WvW player get the gold to do that? Vicious Claws (of which you need a stack for some Ascended recipes) are 0.5g each for example.
On one of the blob servers, for example Gandara, Abbadon’s or Desolation.
I don’t know why anybody would stick with the guardian at this point.
“We feel the guardian is in a good place.”
Repeat to fade.
This change however is a huge let down in terms of toying with alts.
The Gem Store is that way →

Same goes for heavies that wear all PVT and have all defensive traits / skills that are more like mobile rocks. If you don’t enjoy fighting a certain build, just nope out on it unless you’re in an advantaged situation…all you can really do.
It’d be nice to have that option. As one of aforementioned mobile rocks, I die a lot to persistent DPSers, but then, I don’t expect to survive.
Patch NotesSigil of Conjuration: Renamed to Sigil of Celerity.
[..]
Sigil of Sanctuary: This sigil has been renamed to Sigil of Benevolence.
These Sigils still have the original names.
Would like if there were like 10 different Border maps and 3 different EB maps and everyone on the server get to vote with map they want for there borderland / EB then you have a draw with the % on the different maps vote your server had (EB all 3 servers had).
That could be part of the game. You have 3 potential maps, but you can’t defend them all, so you have to let 2 fall. That’s how you vote for the one you want.
They explained their reasoning in two combat-themed blog posts that went up on the pre-release blog site. I’m not sure those are still accessible.
Good job OP.
Good job! That was…. THRILLING
+1 for you!
Any word on progress with this topic? How convoluted is your achievements database that it can’t handle some tweaks to a few values? Have you explored the option of moving the current broken WvW achieves to historical and releasing ones that work? What’s the real harm in that anyway, they’re as good as a gangrenous limb in their current state.
They’ve said before… it’s meant to take forever to get them.
If it is a matter of balance between the three borderlands then why has EBG’s red side consistently been the easiest to defend?
And yet red side usually loses despite this advantage. That’s because green is the top seed, blue second seed and red third seed.
I think it’s one last cash-in before the whole “World” concept is binned. I was hopeful, but now I dread to think what will replace it.
If it were lots of tight spaces, prepare for even more #camera complaints.
My initial analysis of the concept is that it would result in very quick battles because the damage couldn’t be avoided as easily. Staff eles and boon strippers would probably be kings. Ballistas would be OP (but AC would still rule) and trebs… would still be powerful because of splash – point blank with cloud might be interesting.
Yeah.. I played DAOC for many years. Still consider it one of the best games out there for large scale open world PVP. It’s terrain allowed for different tactics depending on which zone one was fighting in.
Talk about rose tinted glasses. RvR was all about the golf-course Emain map (it was like playing on a pool table). The other maps were covered in annoying mobs and the large scale fights were huge minute-long AoEmezzCC-fests. The /assist tank trains were appalling. Although far from perfect, this game is a million times better.
This said, I think that new maps could be part of a long-term development plan, but I haven’t got any hope of one of those.
So I’ve only read 1 page of this. And admittedly skipped through a bit of the megaserver stuff…so forgive me if this was mentioned, but couldn’t this be solved if there were separate chat channels for your home server? would be like map chat but only seen by people on your specific server.
I believe it is inevitable that the whole “server” concept will disappear. There will be no “select a world” at account startup, eventually. It will just randomly allocate one but it won’t matter because it won’t have any effect in the game.
The trick is how will they get this to make sense WvW-wise?
This happens all the time.
I’ve even helped “enemies” do the puzzle by showing them where to go.
There is a simple counter to Immobilizations/chills/cripples: condi removal skills OR condi duration reduction food/armor stats.
Condition removal is on long cooldowns, condition spamming isn’t.
Sadly, certain classes are dependent on condi spam, so the solution is probably more work than Arenanet can/cba to commit.
What’s the Ranger’s role in a group?
In my opinion, this should be the key focus of the review.
They need stuff to make them desirable for groups. There are lots of existing ways, but perhaps something new would go down well with the devs. There’s a world of ideas!
Arenanet don’t care about their our stupid WvW!
One year on, nothing has changed. Anet… Anet… Anet?
(edited by Svarty.8019)
In the MMO world merging your servers is a sign of weakness, companies avoid it as long as they can.
With the new megaserver system though, it does seem like it would make a lot more sense converting the concept of a server into an allegiance and merging some of the lower pop allegiances. These could be much better managed to account for some servers being PvE heavy etc, also, allegiances could (lag allowing) potentially become shared between NA/EU servers, allowing a better time-zone spread, allowing one of the game modes oldest problems to fix itself (Nightcapping, which ANet do not want to fix, for very valid reasons).
To maintain identity certain town maps (eg new LA) could have allegiance as a massive weighting factor when placing a character in their instance.
Considering the massive population skew at the moment – even between long-term adjacently ranked servers – and the importance of population to the game mode, it seems silly not to.
My thoughts, exactly. Thus I have special +1 for you, Sir!
Flippers increase liquidity and bring prices closer to equilibrium, almost always lowering prices and providing preferences to other players. I see no reason why anyone would want to stop that.
I do. When I see the price of petrol (gas) and other commodities being speculated up by RL flippers, I see people suffering through lack of essential goods while the wealthy can still afford them but at ripoff prices. I don’t call that “equilibrium”.
When I played again tonight, this bug had not been fixed (get used to messages akin to this one, I suppose spamming is the only way to get Arenanet to fix it).
THanks for your reply. I find that it’s not so much the tedious nature of having to typing /sit, it’s having the presence of mind to do so and realising that it’s not (just) an immobilise/binding roots. Also, typing mid-combat takes up valuable staying alive time.
With the current systems in place and even ANet admitting that wvwvw is not fair should we look at a better mass PVP playstyle? Not to mention a severe lack of server loyalty anyway, players would prefer to play with friends first anyway…
1) Use an EotM server grouping (colors) and timed battle system – more urgency, less worry about coverage
2) Assign players to color groupings based on population numbers already fighting – so players are distributed to the color with the lowest numbers – if players are in a group or in the same guild the group or guild is assigned together to the color requiring more numbers – a lot less worry about coverage
3) No weekly scoring system, rather put in Guild rewards and/or individual rewards – currency that can get you special armor/weapon/titles/minipets/Black Lion TP tickets/whatever
There would be less server vs server drama I suppose, but really is it something we need? This may also promote better guild play as currently many many players still play as individuals even being part of a large population guild…it may also foster a better GW2 gaming community? Who knows…
Better ideas, scathing remarks and opinions awaited…
I agree entirely. Without Worlds, WvW could be changed into a more permanent area where there are no scores or resets or any of this PPT guff. I don’t know how matching up between sides might happen, but it’s feasible that some kind of choice on the part of the player can decide their allegiance, rather than (now reference-less) worlds.
(edited by Svarty.8019)
In WvW battles, I’m finding that often I can’t move. Immobilize isn’t showing on my conditions and I usually have Stability up. I can’t see any binding roots on my character. It inevitably results in death with nothing I can do about it.
I think this bug may have been reported in the past, but it seems more prevalent than ever!
We’ve been discussing this a lot recently and we agree that something needs to change. When we have a change that we are ready to talk about we’ll make sure to make it known to everyone.
Heaven forbid there is an epic battle that delays the megablob karmatrain!
If it takes you a week to get 100 gold in gw2 you’re either playing 1/2 hours a day and afking half of that time or you’re not doing anything besides sitting in town.
Typical PvE attitude. In other game-modes it’s not so easy to make gold.
I always considered PvE to be the war-effort in support of WvW.
The megaserver completely wipes this concept and make PvE seem like a way to boost myself and not “friends” on the map. In fact, if I can gain something without friends gaining it, too, that helps my world in WvW.
The problem is that the current scoring mechanic weights the wrong thing. PPT and the way score works right now is only good for matching servers with even coverage. It is not a quality metric of the players on the server and should not be used as the score format for a competitive league. PPT works in sPVP because its a balanced format where skill can shine. WvW is not balanced enough for PPT to work. If you want to see why you can model the coverage game in Microsoft Excel. To do that follow the instructions below:
New excel sheet.
Rows 1 through 3 are estimated coverage for each hour in a day where the first one is midnight. Mark for 3 servers (3 rows) when each server has coverage. In the 3 rows below that we’ll calculate each server’s score for a day assuming that servers PPT will balance when they have coverage and shift to the ones that don’t have coverage. Each server’s hourly PPT is calculated by the following
EDIT 2: a model that works is posted
EDIT:
If you want to figure the model: The model assumes a pool of 695 points available. A server with coverage gains an equal share with other servers that have coverage. When a b and c have coverage they all get 231.3. If B and C have coverage they have 695/2 points between them. When C only has coverage it gets all 695.
For server A:
A1 * 4 * 695 / SUM A1:A3
Server B:
A2 * 4 * 695 / SUM A1:A3
Server C
A3 * 4 * 695 / SUM A1:A3edit 3: forum code ate the parentheses on the range. bottom could be (a1 +a2 +a3)
Those formulas calculate the PPT for a server assuming that when a server is marked as having coverage that it has dominating coverage over the other servers. You can make a weighted formula by assuming servers have a percentage coverage from 0 to 1 with 1 being full queued on every map. If your server queues only 2 maps you have 50% coverage.
Once those 3 formulas are entered highlight them and drag to the right to fill the full 24 hour day.
Daily score for a server is the sum of the score rows for that server. Weekly score is 7* that.
Play around with models for different coverage and you’ll see how much it plays into the score outcome.
I like this, I hope Arenanet are working on it.
The multiple league system is poor, crude and ineffective. It results in;
- transfers/stacking,
- queues,
- boring gameplay,
- blobs and
- unjust rewards for
- coverage wars.
I would suggest a series of NPCs which players can to swear fealty to – each with their own citadel … I think you’re starting to see what I did there. They then start playing political games with one another, using the players as pawns. Forget it. This is an idea for a new game.
Megaserver allows Arenanet to completely rethink WvW into something better.
Perhaps something more permanent than just 1 weekly match-ups … but I think it would take more man-hours than they like to put into WvW because it’s not as profitable as other parts of the game.
