Feature pack= Failure pack
Feature Pack = Gold Sink Pack
It seems the resident economist tells the forum one thing and his colleagues another story all together.
A very regrettable and disappointing decision. I think this epitomises an unhealthy “our way or the high way” attitude. It’s my opinion that WvW should be about players expressing innovation via siege placement, battle tactics and overall strategy. The degree to which these are actually allowed to happen is debatable, but bannering the Lord allowed for interesting methods of delaying/preventing enemy captures. I think it’s a mistake to take away fun things, especially ones that help thwart massive blobs.

- Green means you are expected to win
- Blue means you are expected to come 2nd
- Red means you are expected to lose
This was only true when there wasn’t RNG rolls to determine matchups.
… but strangely it is still the case.
ArenaNet doesn’t see the whole picture with Guardian because they don’t play the profession. [..] I think it’s a great example of the pure amount of WTF that goes on with ArenaNet skill & balance team.
^^ This. The longer I live the less respect I have for those who are supposedly “experts”.
Is anybody going to use MI?
Not for WvW, no.
It’s just a pointless skill from concept up.

All pets are kitten – ask your local Ranger.
They have officially stated that they regret putting underwater stuff in the game and that they don’t understand how to fix it.
Hey Guys,
After the Skill bar previews many complains appeared on the forums. Ofcourse I also have my opinions about it, but next to that I’dd really like to say thanks to the balancing team. We can’t expect them to fix everything, they just made a step. And actually they made some pretty important steps. Ranger and necro got some really important buffs for example. So here I go: Thanks!
Ye, thanks Arenanet, for fixing the trading post and that other fluff.
- Green means you are expected to win

This has been the #1 issue with WvW since the game launched.
It’s so frustrating that arenanet knew this YEARS ago and did NOTHING. Literally NOTHING whatsoever.
When a viable alternative comes, I’m gone.

Just keep adding to the world, make new maps.
The opposite of this, please. There are plenty of maps. More than plenty.
The Gem Store IS Guild Wars 2. If you like the skins there, save money to either buy the gems to get them OR buy them from other players on the TP.
A lot of people put a lot of work into the new TP and they deserve to get some airtime to talk about their work. I’m no expert on UI by any means.
I am excited about the new buying and selling UI the most. It’s designed to reduce information asymmetry (it’s designed to give all users easy access to more information) and I think it will be really helpful for new players or players that are less studied on prices.
Well since your not spending time on the podcast, you should test the new TP UI by taking say 200g-500g and challenging yourself to make as much profit as possible in a week (use every dirty trick you can think of to squeeze out a profit, your also testing how the market reacts to super secret commerce stuff). Post your results at the end of the week and gloat how you just emptied the market of thick leather sections(which at more than 10k gold would be insane).
This is a funny idea, but I don’t think it would endear me to the general population (or my community team).
Since when did economists care about making friends?
by total destroying skilled player tools the “fantastic” QA team of anet , they are destroying any will from skilled players to stay in game.
Who pays more? Skilled or unskilled?
Some amazing changes …
…for PvP.
Gratz PvPers.
Just a question here because I am curious. The idea of the Living World is that there is a storyline that you take part in, that you are involved in events that shape Tyria in permanent ways—how would you all convey the sense of progression and change without also making changes to the landscape? I see a couple of comments regarding creating things, not simply destroying. Do you all have any other ideas?
Ask your writers.
Things like construction and destruction have everything to do with the mood of the world. What do you want it to feel like?
Examples;
- Do you want it to be a miserable world where doom is inevitable?
e.g. humanity are driven to the edge of the world and never get back anything and if one dragon doesn’t obliterate them, the next one might?
- Do you want to offer some hope in dark times? The reconstruction/re-population of some areas/frontiers? Not too much, and always the opportunity for dark forces to wipe these bold/desperate people out.
- Do you want a happy pixie elf-world where everything is reconstruction and buildypops? Oh and there’s some dragons to kitten down in certain, very specific spots (on a timer) too!
As a player, I love the idea of construction, it’s one of the reasons I played Horizons for (a short time when it came out). I like the idea of working with other players to make something, but I get depressed when that something is inevitable whether I contribute or not.
That’s your challenge.
Funny thing though, I expect barely any significant changes to my favourite game-type (WvW). Even if Anet implement the mother of all expansions.
My guess is part of the problem is that WvW doesn’t earn ANet a lot of money in the gem store because it’s pretty self-contained. So it might help to suggest ways ANet could make money, or at least break even, improving the WvW experience.
My guild is mostly about WvW. About half of us pay for gems for novelty/superficial items. If we weren’t playing the game, Arenanet would miss out on all of those gems. We pay Arenanet and play WvW.
This is why I think it would be wrong to say WvWers don’t earn Anet a lot of money. We don’t need to “pay a different way”.

Suggestions;
Rather than make him hard, why not make him more interesting?
- Take him down more quickly for bonus rewards (Bronze/Silver/Gold as usual),
- Make him slow down his health-loss by doing knockdowns and dropping destructible healing crystals (which players can use mortars on or just kitten ),
- Make him occasionally single out a player for special attack such as a big punt or chew.
I tried to come up with ideas that weren’t much different than the current event, to minimise effort on Anet’s part.
Hi,
Sorry, to clarify in regard to ‘Streamline’ I mean consolidate the number of channels of communication so we are able parse the flow of information better and in so doing connect more easily.
Chris
Could you kindly elucidate? What does this mean in practical terms? Without meaning to sound rude, your post seems like business jargon.
Please don’t infract this: It is a genuine enquiry.

I think this will be good. Doesn’t sound OP to me. I think we need to see how it plays on live. The devs have said they will change it if it borks the game, but I my fear is a 6 month wait for another feature patch before it gets fixed – but I’m getting ahead of myself, let’s see it in-game first.
The outcry against the 300g/colour tags was huge. Here, we see the media suggested changing that decision, too. With good explanation.

If it is too hard for you to get a legendary, you might want to consider giving it up.
If getting a legendary is the only reason you play the game. I suggest you find a new game. I seen too many people who spent all their in game time farming for legendary, and once they got there, they quit the game.
I agree with this, I’ve seen it too. It’s as though there’s nothing else going on. Crazy!
If legendary is easy to get, it wont’ be called legendary.
It’s been said many times that buying things from the TP is not legendary in any way.
That being said, it used to be so much cheaper if you get your legendary earlier. So it’s understandable why people complaining.
It used to cost all your gold and stacks, and now it costs … all your gold and stacks. So… same price but different numbers.
in the end Zach and Tyler worked the weekend to make sure this change could be made on time for 9/9.
Thanks Zach and Tyler
Gems, Precursors and Legendaries. The most desirable items always appreciate. Luxury goods never go down, just like IRL.
Get together with some friends and buy as many as you can with your spare money. As John Smith will doubtless attest: You are guaranteed (allegedly) to get more back when you sell.

Been almost two years with nary a significant change to WvW game play. I think we can pretty much assume GW2 WvW will be the way it is for the life of the game.
I suspect:
- Arenanet fired all those “we love DAoC” guys after launch – they were probably freelancers.
- The remaining devs don’t understand WvW or which of the player suggestions would be good changes.
- They are scared to change it in any significant way – if they get it wrong, they would reduce the player-base.
When you take into account:
- They are busy doing gem store stuff and PvE story content.
… it’s a recipe for leaving WvW as is. Forever.
It’s as though Arenanet are trying to do one of those “be careful what you wish for” allegories from The Twilight Zone…

Will we ever get a better scoring system?
We won’t ever get a better scoring system. Just settle in and wait for nextgame™
What this says to me is that the current gold sinks are clearly not working well enough. I would have thought they would index link the price to mudflation, but that would require them to acknowledge that inflation exists and Smith is a notorious denier.
What has become of our dearest Devon Carver?
Devon’s still on his decade long sabbatical to the Himalayas, where he hopes to find himself.
It’s too late now.
Whoever thought it was a good idea to disable siege and buff golems does not play wvw
A page of thumbs for you, sir/ma’am!
I think the “explosive finales” thing will be fireworks are now usable in WvW. Hmm.. maybe that’s asking too much.
first i hope they make something like pvp reward track in wvw :P
Or a regular Twitch show like Ready Up (PvP) and Points of Interest (PvE).
for your information, profession skill balances are made for 5 vs 5 team arena conquest mode and not hotjoin, certainly not WvW.
This should pop-up in big letters when you enter WvW. Or it could just say “Arenanet hates WvW”, but the truth would probably be too harsh.
I think that all game modes should have weeklies
Just like all three game modes should have their own Twitch TV show?
PvP – Check
PvE – Check
WvW -
Gems never go down.
Never ever.
Ever.
Working as intended.
Sadly for some of us, the intent is to keep these items expensive and nigh impossible to acquire.
The next game is that way —>
Currently you cannot defend a tower properly. What do I mean by properly?
The real problem is:
- It’s boring to sit in a tower waiting for enemies to come.
- When they do come, it’s hard to get to the tower in time.
I think the solution is:
- Hearthstone to a tower, then you can go roaming. If your tower gets contested (only if it is contested), a specific number of people can Hearthstone back within a pre-determined timespan. This should not be a zerg-worth of people – just 3 or 4 – enough to put up some siege.
But we’re in daydream land. The chance of Anet doing any changes to WvW are very slim. I think it will be ignored until populations are zero then removed from the game.
To play devil’s advocate…
We need a solution fast.
- Why? Everything is fine. People are still playing, money is still rolling in.
Ignoring the problem doesnt make it go away.
- see above. If people are still playing, money is still rolling in, then ignoring some perceived “problem” is exactly what they should be doing.
But seriously, this is a really frustrating part of WvW and I think there have been plenty of solutions suggested by the community in the past that are much more subtle and effective than merging servers. I can’t see them fixing it though, because if Habib couldn’t do it, nobody can! #FreeHabib
The problem with Gems is that they are the perfect hedge against currency devaluation (or in other words inflation). Pile your gold into gems and they are guaranteed to go up and up and up in terms of changing them back to gold again.
Of course, they have to cross a threshold to take into account the exchange rate (/gold-sink/tax, whatever you want to call it), but ultimately the price is guaranteed to do so.
Got a spare 1000 gold hanging about? Why not buy gems now and sell them when they’ve doubled in value? Because they will, because people are using them as a currency hedge.
So what gives? Why is the demand for cloth so much stronger than the demand for leather when they’re uses and obtainability are reasonably similar?
John Smith changed the recipe for silk from 2 scraps to 3 scraps.
Again, a mechanic rendered completely useless in PVE because almost every single boss in the game has Defiant/Unshakeable.
I get mocked as being grumpy by my guildmates when I point out this enormous design flaw (in fairness it dates way back in the history of MMOs). My point still stands, though:
What’s the point in giving players abilities when the boss mobs just ignore them?
(edited by Svarty.8019)
I do it all the time. If it means the enemy might get lessfewer points, that’s a bonus. But I don’t see my character getting stomped, and that’s the main thing.
(edited by Svarty.8019)
The saddest thing of all is that the intention of what warriors should be is overpowered.
Ready Up #15 sounded like a long, “Working as intended, L2P”. Unless of course you’re a warrior, in which case you don’t have to.
Frankly, you’re not going to get a more vociferous cry of “Nerf Warriors” than you did in this thread. It’s almost surreal, laughable even, to see them asking each other, did you get a sense of what the community wanted?
(edited by Svarty.8019)
This is a result of the Glicko rating and matchmaking system.
It adjusts almost too slowly to population changes like the SoR implosion and HoD bandwagon.
Finally, someone agrees.
Make 3 identical unbalanced maps for borderlands – this automatically balances because:
Whichever side has the advantage on one, has a disadvantage on the other 2.
Solo roaming on a guardian?
- Roll a Warrior.
If you intend to roam in a group
- I guess a Meditation build would be fine. It lacks the thing you want when roaming tho… movement powers.
- I prefer AH build because Staff doubles up for swiftness buffs, empowers and heals.
Guardian > enemy > allies. Boom, cone skills justified.
Eh? What just happened?
