Short term:
1. Disable all transfers to high population servers.
2. Swap out the Orb Bonus and the Outmaned Bonus.
1. Yes. Do it yesterday!
2. I initially thought this was a bad idea, but on second thoughts it might just work. I will go with a tentative “Yes” on this one.
Mid-Term
1. Remove Downed State Mechanics from WvW. Keep the ability to resurrect players however. This would benefit small scale group tactics versus zergs.
2. Give Server Entrances permanent siege weapons to combat zone campers.
3. Give Server Entrances a supply resource.
1. No. Small scale group tactics should not benefit you vs zergs.
2. No. There are exits to the side from the spawn area. Use those.
3. No. Putting supply at spawn will make people teleport back to the waypoint just to pick up supply, and they won’t be incentivised to take camps.
Long-Term
1. Halve the points acquired from holding objectives. Reward 1 point for each pvp kill. This would make pvp more important and would also make defending a more vital role than just zerg sweeping the map.
Maybe, but I believe that zergs would accumulate more single points for kills under this system than small groups.
I will reiterate this here, so if you read it elsewhere, my apologies:
One idea I had which might help a little is what I am calling the “Garrison Mechanic”. Each realm has a set number of guards in it’s Garrison. These will be spread across all the keeps/tower that realm owns, so if they have only a few keeps, each keep/tower has more guards. If they have lots of keeps, they have less guards per keep/tower.
e.g. If you have 2 towers, you have 6 guards per tower, if you claim another, you have 4 guards per tower (not actual numbers).
This could lead to unusual tactics such as allowing your home towers to fall in order to bolster the guards at SM. Heck, you could even give bolster guards with power/toughness as part of the Outmanned buff.

Please can we have a timer on the Spirit Weapon icons telling us how long before they vanish?
Or are we supposed to use third party software … or a stopwatch?
1vs1 I win about 75% of the time. Zerg vs zerg I get at least 4-5 kills before I go down.
I usually run with a couple of friends/guildies who can cripple the runners,
Is that all your friends do? Cripple the runners? Are you sure they’re not doing all the DPS, too?
It all depends on your interpretation of the shout:
1) Retreat! Allies, retreat!
2) Retreat! Or die, enemies!
I agree. Bigger Asura weapons, pl0x.

so…. I need to go out of my way to quote someone, cause Arenanet’s forums are bugged?
I know it’s pretty basic commands etc, but why should I have to in the first place?
I can log out, log back in and come back to this same thread… and the buttons will be there. As soon as I hit “Post Reply” they will be there on ALL threads like they should… for a while, then they disappear again.
I have the same problem and I agree that we shouldn’t have the problem, but you said
Annoys me that I can’t quote
You can.
Well you won’t be killing any guardians, decent warriors, decent mesmers or non glasscannon thieves.
And the biggest nerf will come if they finally fix the culling problem.
Wrong.
<-Guardian: sack of proverbial spuds.
One idea I had which might help a little is what I am calling the “Garrison Mechanic”. Each realm has a set number of guards in it’s Garrison (not to be confused with the name of the keep – this is a different concept, as in a traditional garrison of guards). These will be spread across all the keeps that realm owns, so if they have only a few keeps, each keep has more guards. If they have lots of keeps, they have less guards per keep.
It isn’t a solution to everything, but it might help.
Orbs of Power should either;
i) not buff people in the WvW zones, just in PvE zones, maybe,
ii) give a non-combat related buff i.e. magic find or something else. Sure, it ultimately means the winning realm gets an advantage, but it’s not immediate, it’s not huge, and ultimately winning is about being incentivised.

The reason I believe it is time to lock people to their servers and make games two-weekly is that people, whole guilds even, are transferring from losing servers to winning ones, compounding the problems of the weak servers. They are also causing a lot of issues with the ranking system. How can you possibly hope to get a good measure of how good or bad the server is compared with others when whole guilds are transferring? It makes zero sense.
What do guardians do in WvW?
We die. A lot. Slow healing and a defence that is good against long-cast, slow attacks are only good against single mobs, it seems.
WvW is about fast spike damage. Guardians don’t belong there.
BishopX.6453if u click, you came up in the UO, DAoC generation.. and thus clickers are BETTER pvpers than mouse turner circle straife kids who came up thinking final fantasy 7 was a good rpg and that WoW is the mother of all mmos.
I thought FF7 want an amazing RPG. I was a long time DAoC from beta to post-ToA. I think your use of generalisations says more about you than the people you attempt to categorise in this manner.
I modified it a bit, and changed the first post accordingly. It seems to play ok. I can’t tell if it’s good or not, as I state at the top of the first post. I’d like to read more opinions, please.
They made a bug that you have to spend extra trait points to make an elite as powerful as it should have been in the first place?! …!
The Tier 2 Karma weapon vendor in Rata Sum is selling Sylvari gear. It’s clearly a mistake.

This fell off the front page. I would like to use this bump to thank all of the people involved in the expertly crafted and wonderfully informative videos. You have produced a beautiful piece of work.
Well I don’t think dungeon tokens of any sort are going to make your asura bigger.
Haha, yep, you’re right!
My complaint is not that gear is too hard to obtain. People’s specific/separate gear needs force them into specific/separate dungeons. Their specific tasks are separate tasks. People have that much more trouble simply finding a cooperative group. If you can use tokens from more dungeons, you can find more useful groups.
I understand. The most powerful argument in favour of ONE token is, “I want a full set, but I want the variety of multiple dungeons because I’m bored with doing the same one for a single set” (seven runs for a two-handed sword.. seems excessive on a really tiresome dungeon like HotW).
Unfortunately, the ONE token brings with it the exact opposite: “I want to be able to farm a single easy dungeon to get the best looking set as soon as possible”.
I see both arguments, and I don’t claim to know a solution, but I am perfectly happy with the current system. I think that if you want certain stuff, do certain stuff.

End of annoyance.
You seem partial to the existing dungeon reward system. Would mind telling us about your experience with it? Maybe tell us about how it’s effected your dungeons runs.
Certainly. I realise that to gain specific rewards, I must do specific tasks. I think the item prices for some dungeons seem rather high considering how much more difficult (in terms of time taken to complete) to other dungeons they are.
I feel that the weapons for Asura are too small, and that their tiny size makes me apathetic as to if/when I buy these hard-to-acquire dungeon items, since I can barely see them, let alone anybody else.
And it’s “affected” in this instance.
How to deal with mesmers ?
Same as we deal with dungeons. Die and run back.
Lumines.3916Guardians may have a lower HP modifier than Warriors, [..] The main difference being the Guardian’s defenses are all active versus the Warrior who just soaks more of it up.
This makes the guardian extremely vulnerable to Thieves.
Lumines.3916Conditions are the bane of Guardians, they eat through armor and is more threatening with a lower HP pool.
This makes the guardian extremely vulnerable to Necromancers.
If this is the problem then why not simply put a restriction on what gear you can acquire based on the dungeon you have completed.
No. I think Arenanet needs to tell people to sod off and not kowtow to this vocal minority. The original system makes sense, but some dungeons are horribly difficult – THIS should be their priority.
I’ve only tried this path once and my group gave up on this encounter because we couldn’t down the burrows in 8 seconds. It sucks.
Power of the Virtuous, I’ve read reports of it being only 0.5-1% per boons which is pretty low. Comparing to Radiance Power or Fiery Wrath which is a flat 10% on conditioned/burning targets, Power of the Virtuous is pretty weak.
Seriously? That’s abysmal. Anet need to fix this.
10% damage while under Aegis is only good if you are to not get hit at all. To get half of its effect (5% is still pretty good for a trait), you can only be hit once every 15 seconds with the 30 seconds VoC trait.
I don’t know whether you’re correct, the idea with the Virtues line is that you get your virtues back relatively quickly. Plus, you could always use the Retreat! shout between regular aegis’.
Petrichor.7591European guilds are useless?
See the sticky about nightcapping. Russia has the most timezones, therefore Russia wins.
It would make more sense if orbs gave bonuses outside of WvW only.
Owning orbs should be a bonus to your point tick, and winning the WvW battle should give some kind of reward – depending on how much you participated.
It’s all true. I concur with the OP. #Concurrance.
Polle.6908Obviously there is a difference between how the classes are played and how they’re designed. [..] Guardians have enormous options in ways of healing and condition removals which brings both classes into line.
While I agree that Guardians have many options, I disagree that they bring the classes into line. Many abilities are simply too weak and need boosting. Take, for example, the Power of the Virtuous minor trait at 25 in Virtues. This could be completely amazing, and be the centre of many builds all by itself, but instead it is reduced to sub-mediocrity by being such a tiny percentage that it may as well not exist at all.
I find that the Guardian needs to re-trait and change weapons for every encounter in order to be competitive, while the Warrior seems able to stomp into any zone confident that he can head the keyboard and still succeed.
Lag. Spells are stupidly short in this game, and it’s all twitch so you’re going to get mysterious lag-death a lot.
Here is a trait build I have been toying with. I am no judge of the guardian’s abilities, so I’d like to read opinions on this.
Playstyle
With 30 points in Virtues you get 30% faster recharge. The traits give bonus boons and you end up with;
F1, Justice: 18 seconds – Might, (v. brief) Retaliation
F2, Resolve: 45 seconds – Regeneration, (v. brief) Retaliation
F3, Courage: 68 seconds – Aegis, Stability, Protection, (v. brief) Retaliation
It is important to fire off F1 at every opportunity for the PBAoE vulnerability and blindness, and Save Yourselves for the damage bonus.
Other shouts should be used as normal, Retreat! for the mid-cooldown Aegis, use blinds if possible when Aegis isn’t available.
Traits
Zeal 0
Radiance 10 (v)
Valor 10 (v)
Honour 20 (vi, ii)
Virtues 30 (i,viii, x)

Explanation
The idea is that it would be a shout-heavy build, utilising synergy of “Save Yourselves” and other boons to give additional damage via the third minor in Virtues – (do extra damage for each boon you have).
The build has another interesting synergy: Radiance 10 (v) -when applying virtue of justice, you blind and make vulnerable all foes around you. This might also synergise with Virtues first minor – (justice also applies might), second minor – (gain retaliation when you activate a virtue) and hence the third Virtues minor – (do extra damage for each boon you have).
Add to this the fact that the Virtue recharge rate is increased by 30% because the build has 30 points into the Virtues line, and Justice becomes even more significant.
In Valour, I went for 10 (v) for the condition remover (couple it with Sigil of Resolve for twice the effect, I think?). The minor is gain Aegis at 50% HP which fits nicely into my theme, especially considering the 10% extra damage while under the effect of Aegis from Virtues (i).
In Honour I went with Aegis heals on removal and 20% shorter shout cooldowns, but I am not sure if I would be better switching Honour (ii) (shouts recharge 20% faster) for Honour (ix) (two-handed weapons recharge 20% faster). A nice bonus is the second minor – dodge rolls heal allies.
In Virtues, see above for (i) 10% extra damage while under Aegis, which should synergise well with the 30 pointer (x) (passive aegis triggers every 30 seconds) when aegis is on passive and the 30% recharge speed when it’s been activated.
Virtues (ix) (resolve passive heals for more and removes 3 conditions when activated) is pretty much filler, but it’s themic filler. If you think any of the others on the 20 point tier are better, use them.

Now that my character has a full set of karma gear, I thought it would be nice to show it to you:
I like the current torch 5.
What do I think of retaliation?
I think retaliation is under review. I think it’ll be very difficult to make it into what they want, however, without making it overpowered.
In it’s current form, I think it is weak to the degree of being worthless.
(edited by Svarty.8019)
I like it. It makes encounters that would otherwise just be mobs 1 shot each person in the group and thus a wipe into a difficult chore where you have to run back before the last person drops instead. Hooray for no more tanking and healing holy trinity – that was so much less fun than being one-shotted randomly without warning! Not.
Warrior is the best class for melee. Guardian works only if you know which situation you are going to be in because you have to set up so specifically for every encounter.
Polle.6908In a nutshell
*Warriors do more burst damage
*Guardians do sustained damage*Warriors have higher base health
*Guardians have more effective health
If this was the design document, they’ve got a long way to go to make it into the game.
These statements are simply not how the game plays.
Strill.2591Yeah it’s really boring and incredibly easy. There’s only a handful of bosses that can possibly even down you, and even then it’s unlikely that they’ll finish you off.
Sarcasm?
The trash mobs are far harder than any of the bosses, which are nothing more than enormous hp sponges.
Serious?
Mixing sarcasm and serious makes it very confusing for the reader. Stick to one or the other, for the sake of clarity, please.
A warrior cannot do the amount of party support/defense that a guardian can.
Isn’t that the point though? The guardian feels like it DOESN’T do support/defense, particularly in dungeons. I just feel like I’m wasting a Ranger’s slot. My powers feel flimsy at best and negligible at worst. Heals (from mace attacks, mace symbol, for example) are miserly, in the hundreds of points while damage is being generously dished out in the tens of thousands. Our shields last for a few paltry seconds on long timers while the battles go on for minutes. Learning to time things sounds like a viable solution, but even if I do this, most of the time my powers are on cooldown when I need them. In fact, I could probably cast my powers several times inside the cooldown timers, so bad is the situation in dungeons.
Arenanet have admitted they got certain systems wrong, so I’m hoping that guardians will work as intended in dungeons after these systems are changed. Perhaps bigger tells on the bosses or some kind of predictable boss behaviour might help remedy this.
The low heals, very low duration on shields, and long cooldowns are also very noticeable in WvW, where many people appear to spec high DPS instead.
Why isn’t the utility in mace+shield more enjoyable than greatsword?
I like the mace and shield. It’s a good support-only combo for WvW. The mace hits like a wet lettuce and the third swing feels agonisingly slow like the hammer’s. I often find myself using another ability or running away because the third swing is taking so long.
If you are good at twitch games, give guardian a whirl.
Ravenmoon.5318Overally Guardian is good class IF played right!!
If you are noob you are basically going to get smashed a lot.
^^this. The community appears to be divided between;
i) those who know what to do and can do it,
ii) those who think they know what to do but can’t do it (because it’s “twitch”),
iii) those who think they know what to do but really don’t (I consider myself in this category),
iv) those who don’t know what to do.
I don’t understand how the flavour stuff works. I keep hearing random voices from other races, genders etc. at full volume even when there’s nobody around.
“I can out-run a Centaur!”
The only Golem of the 3 that is just ok, is the attack Golem. The Defensive Golem actually dies much faster. I use the attack golem due to the fact all my class “elites” are actually worse, believe it or not. None of them deserve the name “elite”.
I have that problem, too :/
I agree. I want to be able to see my fancy, expensive gear!
See you next Thursday.
Auto-attacks for the win! Go-go magic invisible button presser!
You know how they changed the other bubbles so they were as big as norn ones? Is it just me or is the Sanctuary bubble still small?
p.s. I read that the other bubbles had the same effect radius as each other, though the graphics didn’t reflect this.
Nice to see GH crush you in your own borderlands and take your orb this evening. And goodnight.
We had the end boss in CoF bug out on us today. That was especially frustrating because they made it so you can only get tokens for killing it.
