Please no new content, focus on fixing old

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Svarty.8019

Svarty.8019

Enough said, I believe that people don’t care as much about, nor need all these content updates that only require fixes themselves while older content remains unbalanced or bugged still. Please consider switching your focus fr all your updates. I know you have teams working on both, but the fixes are just not fast enough and support is simply too slow and for weeks you get automated responses that clearly give the impression noone has even read your ticket yet. Just my two cents.

In this interview published three days ago, Colin Johanson mentions expansion after expansion after expansion, content, content and more content, like modern day Sisyphuses, Sisyphi, they will be forever churning out stuff for us to do: http://gamingbolt.com/guild-wars-2-interview-we-talk-to-areanet-about-how-the-mmorpg-has-been-doing-post-launch
I like new content as much as the next man (hi feller), but it’s my opinion that the rate of content release really isn’t necessary to keep people interested. I believe they could slow it down and still keep players happy – unless of course, they are intent on keeping a full staff roster and have to find things for them to do, like some utopian cooperative, and if they aren’t all adept at bug fixing, then the only real option is to have them work on what they are good at – content.

So after typing that paragraph I’ve talked myself into understanding why slowing down the release of content doesn’t necessarily speed up the fixing of bugs. Unless, of course, they are mercenary objectivists, heartless capitalists in the mold of Randian “heroes”, with no concern for the wellbeing of others and with a hire-em-fire-em approach where they replace some of the content people with bug-fixters, and thus balance the books.

It’s late and I’m tired, and I’ve thought about this too much.

Advice for first time with a PUG

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Svarty.8019

Svarty.8019

I wanted to do AC, but my guild either didn’t want to or the people who wanted to were hardly online. I ended up PUGging. Nowadays I PUG nearly everything.

I find people pretty friendly, though some are quite strange, particularly around the time that school finishes – you get people who want to swap to their alts for the final boss so they get a free level, impatient leavers and other such weirdness.

One thing I would do when looking for a group is to check people’s armour – if they’re decked out in armour from that instance, they’ll obviously be very familiar with it. These people tend to be less impatient and aren’t usually the first to quit a team when it fails once or twice.

For AC, and it pains me to say this, but don’t take too many lowbies. As a general rule I would recommend no more than two sub 70s. Obviously, it depends very much on the group composition and the skill/experience of the players, but as I say, it’s a general rule that I try to adhere to because lower level people tend not to do as much damage as exotic geared 80s.

I usually learn a lot more about how to do a dungeon with PUGs than when I am with my guild. Even if you only have one experienced PUGger, you get to learn the tricks/exploits and can later teach your guild and save them some pain.

Always take a new PUG through the easiest path, and use your performance to gauge your chances on the tougher runs (if you plan to do those).

When I use GW2LFG.COM to find a group, I find that the people there tend to be more experienced than your regular Joe. The website also allows you to look for dungeon runs on servers where they are not contested (or bugged perma-contested like Arah usually is).

Unresponsive Jumping @ Dec 3rd Patch

Its funny the only time I am successful is while I am under swiftness

I guess you are jumping early and not jumping from the edge of the object. It’s an issue with edges, because with normal jumping there is no problem, but any edge and the jump just doesn’t happen.

Is Arah shard farming intended?

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Svarty.8019

Svarty.8019

You mean people who have put in the effort to exploit the dungeon early? People were already decked out in Arah armor from those early shard runs. Sorry but having Arah armor doesn’t mean you’re 1337, it just means you exploited Arah instead of CoF as far as I’m concerned. Arah armor is right behind CoF armor in noob level.

Does that mean I am noob?
On the serious note, I thought all dungeons were quite easy.

I wouldn’t say easy, but they certainly beat WoW’s 40-mans in terms of both ease and fun, if that’s the comparison.

Also, hello Haviz, and thanks again for taking us around Arah paths 2 and 3 on Saturday and for making it so easy! /wave

Arah - Path 4 (Dwayna)

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Svarty.8019

Svarty.8019

Alright, I know a lot have talked about this and no changes have been made so I shall bring it back up.

After reaching Dwayna everything gets messed up. Sparks are hard to aggro at times or they bug out by going around the nodes but never enter them.[..]

Seriously, 1 hour and 30 minutes TRYING to do it and I gave up, for a 3rd time. I thought dungeons should be fun and not a place where we “farm” our time in. I really hope some changes be made at least, for that boss.

I reported this issue where Robert Hrouda was looking for it: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/dungeons/Broken-events-in-Arah-Explorable-Dungeon/first#post893234

… and it took two of us 8 hours to complete, losing 6 other players along the way.

Never again.

Make Guardian Fire Illuminate Surroundings?

in Suggestions

Posted by: Svarty.8019

Guardian’s fire doesn’t seem to illuminate surroundings like regular fire does. I had explained this to myself as “it’s spirit fire so it doesn’t count”, and “they probably can’t do it because it’s blue”, but then I picked up a Dwayna’s tear in Arah and it had a nice blue illuminating aura.

I guess it doesn’t illuminate because of performance issue. Or an oversight.

Broken events in Arah Explorable Dungeon

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Svarty.8019

Svarty.8019

YES i almost forgot it…how could i:

The whole spark thing on dwayna is extremely bugged. Even if the cage is empty and you lure them to there, nothing happens.

For example, first time is normal, you can lure the 5 sparks to their respective cages. But after that, some of the cages remain active, and some of the activated sparks goes invisible leaving the cages empty. Then you have to start luring them around each cage until it works.

Also confirming the petrifying thing not working when a tear is thrown.
And sometimes, you get petrified two times in a row. You are petrified with a dead eye stare and gets immediately petrified again when you get out.
Sometimes, you can still move while petrified but not attack.

I’m playing this right now, and can confirm that many many times the sparks won’t go in cages, they just wobble around the outside and rub against them instead.

This event would be better if they went in any cages as long as they were pulled into a big circle around the pole.

(I know you specifically asked not for this, but it’s also probably a tad too hard anyway and her HPs should recharge a little more slowly than at present).

Limit the amount of Gems a player can buy

in Suggestions

Posted by: Svarty.8019

Svarty.8019

I was assuming that the only explanation for the spike was manipulation by speculators.

But you are probably right.
In the light of the recent announcement of the upcomming Wintersday Event it might just have been people hoarding Gems for outragous prices.
(Still, who would actually buy at over 2 Gold -> 100 Gems when the average price is around 1.65)

However, I still think it would be a good idea to limit the amount of Gems you can buy for Gold.
It keeps speculators and people who buy gold from third parties from messing with the market too much.

Does cash-to-gems have an effect on the price of gems? If not, it could have ramifications for currency manipulation.
If cash-to-gems has an effect on the price of gems, then this could have caused the spike as people rush to buy the new makeover kit, perhaps.
A huge influx of cash-to-gems-to-gold could cause problems with the market.

Svarty.8019

Whether or not I want to go for a legendary should not have “be able to manipulate and exploit the market” as a pre-requisite. Yet right now it’s the most important factor – more than how much you’ve played the game, or explored, or done anything related to something other than the economy.

^^ This.

I’ve just completed the main part of the legendary that doesn’t require one to be a market mastermind, i.e. Gift of Mastery. Next is a metals grind, where I need to sprint around Orr trying to avoid the ubiquitous, stunning (not in an attractive way) mobs to mine Orichalcum. Then I’m doing dungeons galore.

I do feel, however, that money trumps activity, and that market speculation is more profitable than work. With 10 years of experience in London’s financial district, this sounds an awful lot like RL to me.

Next event, spread people out more.

in Suggestions

Posted by: Svarty.8019

Svarty.8019

Problems
1) Congretating so many people in Lion’s Arch makes the game near-unplayable and is an unfun, laggy experience.

2) The story steps in zones such as Caledon Forest and Kessex Hills are filled with people because the event is;
a) New and,
b) Only 3 days long.
This can result in people not receiving credit for the events.

Proposed Solutions
I suggest that these problems can be overcome by;
a) Spreading the event over a longer period,
b) Spreading the event over different zones at the same time – perhaps offer different rewards in different zones and make all items so they can be traded on the market, thus encouraging people to move to zones where less people and thus more novel items can be found.
c) Make multiple paths that wrap up at a final goal (not a single final mob, lots of ones who do/say the same things in different zones). Send a proportion of people on each different path to split them up (keep grouped people on the same path).

Defensive Siege is the ONLY game-changer.

in WvW

Posted by: Svarty.8019

Svarty.8019

I began thinking about what the point of a keep was in GW2.

There seem to be only two advantages of a keep (aside from scoring):
1) To gather otherwise scattered people in a known area to combat an enemy force (or zerg, if you must). A counter-zerg.
2) To be able to predict that the enemy force will do a specific thing (i.e. we know that their objective is to attack the Keep Lord) and by knowing this set up siege against it.

If your gathered people[sup]1[/sup] are significantly outnumbered, you tend to lose, regardless of which side of the wall you are on.

This is where siege comes in. Defensive siege is the game-changer, but the surrounding circumstances often mean that it is not constructed (lack of supply camps, lack of carried supply, lack of willingness to “waste” blueprints, lack of faith in your already mentally-battered comrades).

When defensive siege is not built, it is the case that in the words of the famous meme: stronger side is stronger. This is very much a case of snowballing, the rich becoming ever richer, trickle-up economics, a self-fulfilling prophecy, take your pick.

The ONLY way to flip the odds is with defensive siege (mainly ballistas). Learn it, use it, always and often.

I wonder, though, whether it is too expensive in terms of supply requirements or too rare in it’s drop-rate that people cling onto it as though it is precious – more so on the servers who lose a lot because they get destroyed in the jumping puzzle.

[sup]1[/sup]I am aware that some teams can beat “zergs” with their “l33tskills”[sup]2[/sup], but these tend to be in the minority and that’s fine.

[sup]2[/sup]and mesmers.

The more you crush them, the less they try.

Studio Design Director Chris Whiteside says this,
“Our goal is not to create a gear treadmill.
[..] We will not be adding a new tier of gear every 3 months that we expect everyone to chase after and then get the next set and so on.”

It’s encouraging.

And yes, it’s a very pretty rainbowbow.

frankly the badges from pvp work much better as currency for siege than cash the pvp gear sets aren’t great for a lot of setups.

It seems, judging by your statement above and how well your server has done over the last two weeks (I’m on GH), that people server finds it much easier to gain badges than ours. Having said this, judging by messages in your forums, your server seems to have suddenly sprung to life just before the first matchup with us. We are completely outmanned and outgunned (due to your constant presence in the puzzles). Challenge, I like!

A few deaths won’t keep me from doing a jumping puzzle!
