I can only conclude they’re purposefully leaving server transfers free because they actually think it adds to the global WvWvW experience. I 100% disagree, but this viewpoint is the only reason I can think of for why they allow server transfers.

Instead of investing lots of time and effort making bodges and sticking-plaster fixes for February, they are waiting until then to ban transfers.

And that’s the WvW patch.

Impressions from a GH perspective:

The germans magically generate a huge zerg in the evening-early morning. One would expect them to be argentines. They seem to rely on numbers for effectiveness.

WSR don’t have many players at all, but the odd one or two guilds that are knocking about seem to be very good.

This would make sense, but 10 people at night is a big ask for an underpopulated server.

If you cannot take and hold the tower closest to your spawn on that borderland then by george does your server suck horribly, or more likely you are completely and utterly outnumbered.

Outnumbered because of the free transfers. Yes. This happens every single week. By allowing free transfers for so long, Arenanet have failed their WvW community. The ladder system will NEVER stabilise as long as there are free transfers.

The break out event is all very nice, BUT the matchups are still horribly skewed, so any time you DO capture something, the enemy zerg destroys you anyway. The matchups are never even. Some big guild has always transferred every week, so we always get the Pac-Man pie charts.

The problem is still TRANSFERS

2. 1 & 10 : (1=not a problem in PvE, 10=a big problem in WvW).
3. Anet should not ban them except when they threaten to exclude real players from zones because of population caps. They should be completely banned from WvW zones for this reason.

There is a huge problem with tier 6 materials being required in every legenday recipe and low supply (although of course, it could be argued that legendaries are meant to take legendary effort/cost). Bots help to solve this problem, so if they are banned again, the drop-rates should be adjusted to accomodate for this loss.

They should go down over Christmas due to the Wintersday stuff, but most people seem to be going for at least 1 ascended or legendary item.

Also, bear in mind that people seeking Legendaries HAVE to speculate on the market to raise money for components and mystic coins look like a good target for manipulation.

Shield 5 is only good for a knockback and because shield 4 is directional, it is only good if you can get behind the people you want to defend (which is tricky when you’re dodging around, concentrating on your active defence and trying to evade an enemy).

This is an interesting topic.

As a former DAoC player on a server where we are often outmanned, I miss large zones and the ability to affect the game even if we’re not as populated as our enemies.

I keep wondering if there would be some way to change WvW from a ladder system to a campaign map system, but that’s a far away dream that might not even turn out to be fun.

Exactly. They leave you one tower in a corner of the map, and no Breakout.

Why, even most commanders could have thought of that trick.

1. It only works on non-Supply Camp objectives.

2. Presuming you mean Towers:

That’s when the other small server comes along and caps that last tower to set off the event for them.

I see enemy servers inviting each other to cap their final towers in order to give them a boost in that zone.

How often will this event start?
How long will this npc last for?
So it will be pointless attacking towers/keeps near spawn or defending them?

Anet need to learn that major changes like this need to be discussed with the wvw community and examined in a beta environment.

Can only see this as being a complete balls up on Anet’s part. There are far more important things to resolve than this pve solution to a pvp part of the game.

I like the look of the new changes, but whilst I’m not as sceptical as Offski, there are some questions that need answering about the commander, such as how many people do you need to start him?

If he is killable by a zerg, then the zerg will kill him. This doesn’t really help the attackers except for a supply dump in the starter zone. A “powerful defensive buff” won’t stop 5 guys being crushed by 20+. Or will it?

Also, because basic keeps will now rebuild walls and doors with less supply than upgraded ones, upgrades are now double-edged.

The main issue is still server transfers.

I agree completely. I’m sorry for the insult guys (I played a Shadowblade in DAoC for 4 years) but stealth assassins = dumb developers.

Guarantee at least one lode from their respective dungeon. Charged lodes prices are insane thanks to everyone and their sister Deborah farming Mjolnir (more expensive than sunrise LOL) and Sunrise.

Good point. If you want people to grind the dungeons, stick 1 guaranteed drop of a T6 material or lodestone in there. Done and done.

Personally, I’m just grinding the easy dungeons for gold to buy components because I’ve done all the components that aren’t oriented around market manipulation/ TP speculation.

As you look at the area as you enter, if you go behind and to the left of her she gets LoSsed (loses line of sight) on her teleport and doesn’t do the spin at all during the fight.

Sheepie, I don’t think anybody is bitter. Disappointed, a little, but understanding. I think it’s a bit rough that Disaproval is trying to unsettle other GH guilds and/or encourage them to move, however, but that’s all part of the game because of the free transferring (I know you have a different opinion of the solution I advocate for this problem, so let’s not talk about that any more).

Hopefully once you go up a bit you will have other things to worry about than your reputation on this server.

I have difficulty telling when I am out of danger when it comes to overlapping red circles, like the case for Subject Alpha. I think I am out of danger/standing in a safe spot and then bam! I get hit by AoE and it’s all over.

THis is a good call. The overlapping circles are sometimes safe and sometimes a 1-shot kill… and once you’re downed, this boss doesn’t let up. It’s too random, to fix the Subject Alpha battle, I suggest that when he does his multiple rings power;

  • make it so circles don’t overlap,
  • Make it so that being outside of a circle is completely safe from whatever is happening inside the circle – at the moment it is not, the rock splash thing hits you even outside of it.

Please don’t make it so that there is nowhere to dodge to. Often I find myself dodging out of one set of circles and into another.

Because bosses often have immunities, high melee damage output and/or insane PBAoE, and extreme lack of heals, Guild Wars 2 has a reputation for being very tank-unfriendly. I often find myself saying, “World of Kitecraft” as I run around in circles while my team kills the mob.

On the Guardian I would like to see more synergy between skills, talents and weapon powers. I understand that this could lead to unforeseen problems and I appreciate that Jon is working very hard not to make anybody overpowered. How can you make Dungeons more attractive?

We know there is coming an overhaul. But how can we make it so that people will feel that dungeons are less a grind? Make a chance to let gear drop at bosses? Or special gear drop at bosses and ask the RNG to do it for us?

Or maybe quests inside dungeons to get certain things to craft pieces of armor or weapons who have an unique look?

I think Arenanet alienated people from some dungeons by:

1) Making them hard, especially supposedly trash mobs – many are brutal. This can be fun but is sometimes horrid – depends on the team, their gear, their level and experience playing their character.

2) Offering ugly gear sets for hard dungeons and pretty sets for the easy dungeons. Why are the weapon rewards for AC so cool? Why does CoF armour look so good? Arah weapons look plain. Surely, it would be best to offer ugly but functional stuff for the easy dungeons and beautiful AND functional stuff for the hard ones?
I think this might even itself out over time as people start wearing the now “novel” CoE gear to look a bit more unique, etc.

Night Capping and YOU

This is not saying that we are against any adjustment to scoring, or against developing another mechanic to improve the capping system. This is simply saying that we will not be changing WvW based on some players’ idea of off time hours.

So… if you’re willing to consider adjustments to scoring or to capping mechanics, but not willing to base those on time of day, I can only conclude that any adjustments would have to be based on relative map populations regardless of time (e.g. a reworking of the Outmanned buff). Is that a fair assessment?

I would like to see an overall Garrison, where you are given a number of guards which is shared across all of your objectives.
The more you control, the more spread out the number of guards are, until you have very few defending anything.
For example, let’s say you have 100 (a random, but not unrealistic number plucked from the air for convenience’s sake) guards. If you have 5 objectives left across the maps, then each one has 20 guards (this would scale – so if you have a guard point, you would max at just a few, tower would max at considerably more and a keep would have no max.
Thus, if you are down to just one keep on a single map and all your other objectives were gone, you would have 100 guards, making it hard for the enemy to capture it.
Likewise, if you had 100 objectives across all of the maps, you would have only 1 guard at each, thus making it easier for the enemy to take your things.
This is effectively adding a “scaling difficulty” based on your success, and ties into this theme in other aspects of the game (notably Fractals). The more successful you are, the more difficult the game becomes, making it a constant, fun challenge.

Still we have Pac-Man happening, purely because of the transfers.

Whole guilds are nomadically moving from server to server each week, leaving other servers weakened for the next matchup (which is therefore an inappropriate matchup).

Arenanet dropped the ball massively. It smacks of utter incompetence and is extremely frustrating.

I suggest you try them again at 80 with exotics and with other 80s. It’s a completely different experience. The level boosting system needs some analysis.

They should simply give bigger bonuses to a server fighting with less pop not ruin the game for all server. So you have like 50% less pop maybe 10%+ health for everyone on that server.

We already win most battles even when outnumbered. having more health doesn’t replace having more people elsewhere.

Please lower the population caps for WvW. My server is being overwhelmed on every map by vast swathes of enemies who often camp 20 people in a keep on each map and we are merely 30 people in total. We often win battles, but in the meantime, the enemy is capping everything with their multiple large forces.

I believe this massive imbalance results in the Pac-Man Effect (pac-man pie-charts on the “World Vs World: Stats and Bonuses” window).

By dynamically reducing the population cap to match the population of the lowest server, you even up the sides and make WvW more fair and balanced. I also believe there should be a set minimum, which you never disclose because some people might exploit it by transferring to the server concerned.

Which brings me to my final point. Please end server transfers, they are killing already small servers. I think Arenanet seriously dropped the ball on this one. Awful mistake that has resulted in much anguish.
