I don’t know why people here think they know more about the economy than an economist.
A couple reasons, but the main reason is that the study of economics is the study of human behavior and psychology and as such, it is imperfect, incomplete and subject to very different interpretations and perspectives.
It’s the voodoo witch doctor profession of our age.
This is very far from the truth.
Even more so inside of MMOs where there is complete data.
This claim, despite a strong effort to assert authority as a developer, is wrong.
As someone who worked in the financial sector, I will give you this example: I’ve spoken with technical analysts from the top banks and the whole profession is basically nonsense. In one breath the banks tell us that “past performance is no guarantee of future results” and in the other they claim that market “trends” are predictable – Example: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fibonacci_retracement. Technical analysts regularly conjure new mathematical formulae and tools (e.g. candlesticks/clouds) to give themselves the appearance of magicians and keep their profession alive. It’s absolute claptrap.
The only way in which trends are predictable is that all of the technical analysts are working from the same text books.

I think servers would stage “Not Trying Week”s to avoid certain servers if they knew where they were going to end up so clearly.
Great post, Habib. Thanks.
@Crosstrack I very rarely set foot in EB so haven’t seen how we have been doing but its good to hear that we are still a force there.
In the borderlands though as Ventus said we defiantly felt a lack of numbers.Btw RoF are [ICON] still with you as i have only seen stragglers so far and no real guild force? Cheers
Icon growing back up. It was Icon who hit GH BL tonight with some help from other ROF with a some Golems and Icon who hit EB and took a lot of the map even SM with help from other ROF players.
Later when lots of Icon log off for bed we then I am told lost SM.
All of RoF’s successful activities were solely I C O N I C. Everything else you/they tried failed, and when they/you logged, everything was re-capped nice and quickly.
My congratulations on your endeavours, [ICON], you were quite irksome. I am happy that it cost you a considerable number of golems (I heard it was 3 omegas and 12 alphas in total). At one point I was so frustrated I even said, “Kill the Twilight guy”.
The lack of any action whatsoever from WR all night (apart from capping a few quaggan camps and doing a breakout on RoF BL) as a second force was very disappointing and was a hugely significant factor.
Having said all of this, I take my hat off to you/them for taking advantage of the situation and/or being in the right place at the right time.
5 golems AND a zerg.
How very frustrating.
Good job Roo, let’s all keep trying to get our randoms into the Gunnars-Hold.eu community!
Good job Roo, let’s all keep trying to get our randoms into the Gunnars-Hold.eu community!
Aegis is quite powerful at the moment, but against multiple combatants Aegis pops away extremely quickly.
This is the best matchup we’ve had so far, I think. Very painful though
While I appreciate and thank you for working on fixing this encounter, the fixes you describe don’t encourage me enough to risk another 12 hour run.
Most champions have stability built in via Defiant, which ignores crowd control effects. This is a crowd control effect.
Of course, other players can dodge right thru the lines too. Which makes them doubley useless. The only thing they work on reliably are PvE trash. Ya know, the stuff you don’t generally need to herd up.
I’ve had it with our crappy gimped powers. This is bloody shocking!
Ahh here we go, this is the massive zerg we’re used to seeing from RoF.
Those NP guys seemed pretty good, but it’s hard to tell because there’s so many of them.
/serious hat on.
Serious hat is boring hat.
WSR ploughed into the back of us at Klovan Gully yesterday while we were attempting to take it from RoF. Clearly WSR and RoF are in alliance!!!1111one
What about when they both attacked SM at the same time? Coincidence? Strategy? Alliance?
Good alliance, right, reds? ;-) Everything is going according to plan! Muahahaha!
Looks like GH has their insane numbers again for reset.
Insane numbers indeed! We’ll be here all day, every day of the week and then our enormous, dangerous and omnipresent night shift takes over. You may as well give up now.
A special song just for RoF… http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FrkEDe6Ljqs
Merge titles and accomplishments as titles and let us wear any one at a time.
I have 63 shards left over and nothing to do with them :/
You could farm Earth elementals for Onyx for 1 hour and get 1, the next day you could farm for 10 hours and get 0, Because the drop rate is not SET. if it was say 1% you would see 1 every 100 kills. this is NOT the case, Lodestones are on a drop rate that that is way more complex. Imagine a dice roll from 1-5000. anytime 3567 is rolled an onyx lodestone will drop. THATS HOW STUPID this system is. It is nothing like any other MMO.
I quite like this drop system, but it does cause huge issues.
The drop system doesn’t seem to be integrating with the market/storage systems. I think it makes more sense for the drop-rates to be increased (automatically) when there are so few of them in circulation.
There does not need to be any reward for WvW, really. As the real endgame, people play it for larks. I think people might want to distinguish themselves from WvW newbies, however, so WvW specific titles or fancy looking WvW-specific gear might be appropriate.
I don’t understand why they think retaliation should be a major part of the Guardian class. We have so few HPs that retaliation is … problematic.
-Nothing major till feb patch.
I hope they realise that February is make-or-break for vast swathes of the WvW community.
Just for clarity: I’m not asking for a nerf, it just seems to be something that’s been overlooked.
Or am I missing something? Are they bugged?
Saraman, I know. Really! He gets to choose and the rest of us are begging on our hands and knees to the RNG
Actually, I’m not. If it happens, it happens.
I’m not begging any RNG, I’m grinding dungeons for cash (gold). Aaand in several months/years I’ll have enough for all the components, including precursors. Cash is king.
Renewed Focus is the only good elite.
The others are extremely weak and desperately require buffs. I’d very much rather have 1 more regular skill than these poor “elites”.
Against thieves, I rely on the Retaliation boon to do a lot of the work. Glass cannon thieves will kill themselves on it. I use GS and Binding Blade will hit thieves in stealth as long as they’re in range. Do that quick, pull them in, then use Whirling Wrath and that will help finish them off. GS symbol also grants retaliation, so drop it and sit in it to get the full 4 stacks initially.
I used to be able to survive using retaliation against thieves, but it feels as though there has been a stealth-nerf to toughness, this is the real reasoning behind my original post. Of course, I have no solid evidence, but over the past week I have felt a lot weaker than before.
being focused by a player under any circumstances will kill you quickly unless you pop the right skills/evade the right things.
Thanks for the formula.
I’m really getting hit hard by dd ele and thieves particularly. They’re laying out well over 10k damage before I can do much. I thought toughness was supposed to mitigate this. Am I expecting too much from defensive stuff and just suck it up and get on the Berserker’s bandwagon? This class doesn’t seem to be great for damage output…
Any tips?
I need numbers on how much tougher is supposed to make me. I feel like I’m wearing rags in my exotic gear. Do I feel powerful with boons? No, I feel on par with boons and sub par without, but back to the topic.
Is thief/elementalist damage ignoring toughness?
What’s the deal?
(edited by Svarty.8019)
With the recent changes to movement signets other classes received (necro, ele, and ranger) I’m starting to really feel the lack of speed when I run my guardian.
The recent changes have been very painful. I certainly feel significantly weaker. That being said, speed is one of my lesser concerns.
This matchup is boring.
Well – I wouldn’t say that. The outcome seems to be pretty much decided already, yes,
- Being unable to do anything is bad game design.
- Reducing someone’s effectiveness in a way they can counter is good game design.
If the Champion Commanders do not get triggered, they stand around at the spawn even though we’re taking the towers down without them (we struggle to muster the 10 people needed and waiting around is wasting precious time).
The Champion Commanders should despawn if the following conditions are BOTH met;
1) a team has their first tower AND
2) their (each respective commander’s) event has not been triggered yet.
Hah! We were getting stuffed by the gerries this time. It’s nice to see them disrupted.
This matchup is boring.
Until they finally decide to make a height advantage actually give improved range for regular skills, making the towers taller would make it even harder for the defender.
I think the height advantage you describe might be a good idea.
I don’t get y everyone complains about zergs. Many people say that people should use more strategy yet the zerg is one of the best strategies there is at times.
[..]
U probably already rolled them multiple times which is y they cry.
Apart from this looking like a text message, I agree with it completely.
I’ve experienced the OP’s problems with this boss with my guild. When iPUG him we usually tear him a new one, though. Strange.
(edited by Svarty.8019)
I like the jumping puzzles, but I hate the timed ones. With this and the guitar-hero bellringing, it seems Arenanet want us to Have a Very Twitchy Christmas.
Dumbest idea ever. I respectfully disagree with the OP.
Use this to find a group, instead:
http://gw2lfg.com/
if you can make more money in real life in a shorter amount of time then just buy the gems to convert into gold it becomes pointless to do otherwise,
The main question you need to take into account in regard to legendaries is;
Can I afford money-for-gems IRL or is it worthwhile doing in-game stuff for gold?
Use gw2lfg.com to enter locked instances (using an unlocked one from a group-mate on a server where it is not locked).
Great suggestion Roo.
I secondthird this motion.
Which game sent information about 100 other players to all other players ten years ago?
Dark Age of Camelot, to name only one … make it 200-300 players in the early zerg days
To be fair a lot of those early relic runs were slideshows. A lot of fun though.
That was largely just a result of it being before ‘gaming rigs’ caught on.
Yes, I remember that facing the opposite direction to the zerhg or pointing my camera at the ground resulted in a massive increase in framerate.
imo only arguable thing is that some (usually also otherwise op) classes seem to have also op downed state.
I concur with this opinion and hereby lend my weight to it.
Someone you can’t see should not be able to see you, or interact with you in any way, until both clients say “Hey, we are seeing each other” to the server, unless it’s because of stealth.
That doesn’t make sense either. I’m sure you can imagine the complaint, “I couldn’t shoot this guy because he had a slow internet connection”.
I note with some interest that from some towers, but not others, you are able to fire trebuchets at nearby enemy structures.
I wonder if WvW would be better or worse for my idea, but here it is, please comment:
Towers get taller as they upgrade.
That’s it. The idea is that towers are too low to hit the nearby structures until you upgrade them. This could suck hugely in terms of rapid response, but might add to the idea of holding and defending. Anyway, I’m just throwing it out there because I think it’d be funky to see towers get taller.
I love the idea and how it works but I think the NPC commander is a little too powerful right now, making defense against a breakout too difficult. The attackers should have an advantage during a breakout but I don’t think it should be quite as severe.
I disagree. I think the breakout is about magically giving the attacker a foothold, so the process itself doesn’t matter and seems to be intended to be uninterruptable.
I, for one, disagree.
