Oh yes, duh! ><
Aegis will make it a little bit harder. Next hit gets negated. Also, he might have used a blind to negate next hit.
The guardian is great against slow, heavy hitting enemies, but a thief should be tearing a guardian a new hole because you hit so many times it doesn’t matter if a couple of hits are negated.
Aegis is a boon, if that sigil could remove Aegis it would get you 1 more hit every 40 seconds. It’s not much especially, as I stated just now, you should be a class that hits for little* and often.
There are other things that he could have done skills/gear/traits/playstyle-wise that I wouldn’t understand (yet).
*The thieves I’ve encountered hit for a LOT and often.
Shimond.2478Because it’s not the way we were designed. /shrug
People seem to have this idea that all classes should be able to do the same things. I don’t.
Developer Jon Peters says everybody should be able to do all of the things here:
http://gw2101.gtm.guildwars2.com/en/the-game/combat/healing-death/
see what works, then post it here. That’s what most of us are still doing.
I haven’t seen many people actually posting what works. All I see is “guardian is fine”. That doesn’t help those who are struggling with the class.
Thanks.

What[profession] kills you, exactly?
All of them.
Do we really lack adaptability that much?
Is it too much to ask for advice on all of those options?
If so, then please give advice on Roaming as that suits me best, but I would like advice on all of them should I want to change later.

In my opinion, this is usually enough mobility to chase down most people.
Oh I can get near them ok. Then they kill me.
Sometimes I am able to live a while, you know, when you do a Shield of Wrath as the warrior does his spinny “I win” move. If one aegis would block that one-button-press, multiple-hits attack then I’d last somewhat longer. But that’s not the only problem. Even if I have my very short duration multi-block power on, it doesn’t last long enough to prevent a short bow’s AUTO attack, since that lasts forever. What I’m saying is that my powers don’t appear to counter those of other classes effectively.
I mostly play WvW. Here is how I set up:
sword+focus for multi-block shield, teleport and blinds.
sceptre+torch for something ranged, immobilise and some AoE.
I run with these skills:
Signet of Resolve for big heal and condition remover.
Signet of Judgement for damage reducer.
“Retreat!” for extra aegis and speed.
“Save Yourselves” for speed & buffage.
Elite skill: They’re all crap.
Traits:
30 Radiance, II,VI, XI
20 Valour, II, V
15 Honour, II
(level 79).
HPs: 12,745
Svarty, don’t overreact. We have plenty of good, powerful abilities.
You’re probably right. It just doesn’t feel like it when I’m being destroyed by a thief or a short bow auto-attack in 5 seconds*
*other classes can destroy me in 5 seconds.
Recommend builds too please.
I’ve heard other classes complain about borked stuff also.
No. There are no good builds, only mediocre ones.
.You realize you can change your builds very wildly right?
If they intended us to keep changing our builds very wildly, they would have put free trainers at the entrance to WvWvW and Dungeons etc.
Weak powers on the guardian? That’s not possible, surely? Oh yes, now I remember … all of them are.
I am writing as an awful 1v1 player. I require help with how to play against ALL the classes, please.
Lots of my powers don’t work. Like the heal allies when you dodge. Broken. Does nothing. My heal takes ages to fire off, then it’s on some weird random 2 second global timer. Game needs more fixing, but it’s not the most borked I’ve ever seen.
This is yet another inaccurate description. We need them to be reviewed. “Blocks all projectiles” doesn’t even work against fireballs, let alone trebuchet balls or catapulted rocks!
You can’t have all those things at once. (Healing/Ranged healing/Strong melee and ranged DPS/Many conditions removals/Large health pool/etc)
But it would be nice to be able to flip between them like an engineer (for example) can.
Ynna.8769Scepter (Redesigned)
Orb of Wrath: Fire a fast-moving orb at the target
Range: 1200
Projectile Finisher
This skill would probably need a cast-time to balance the speed of the orb. The ultimate rate of fire should be roughly the same as before, it’s just the orb that flies faster. I also made it a projectile finisher, since it provides some support and offense. See also #2.)
Symbol of Stability: Sear a mystic symbol in the target area, damaging foes and granting Stability to allies.
Range: 1200
Cooldown: 8 seconds
Duration: 3 seconds
Light Field
This skill still roughly has the same use as Smite, but also serves as a Light combo field. I don’t like Stability on it, but it’s one of the only boons we haven’t got on our Symbols yet. Ideally, I’d swap the Symbols around, but that would go beyond this excersize.
Chains of Light
Stays exactly the same.
If that is too powerful, they might want to make it a bit less powerful by making only every third shot a finisher, like this:
Power 1:
1. Orb of Judgement: Launch an orb at the target.
Range: 1200
If it hits a foe they are blinded for 1 second.
→
2. Orb of Flame: Send an orb at the target.
Range: 1200
If it hits an enemy they suffer burning 1 second.
→
3. Orb of Wrath: Fire an orb at the target
Range: 1200
Projectile Finisher
Charr by miles. They get an actual ranged weapon!
Spirit Shackle
Shackles up to 5 enemies around your target with spiritual chains which must be smashed in order to escape. Duration 1 minute.
Pure Light
A beam of light nukes the target site from orbit for 10000 damage and all enemies are knocked back with a 1000 strength blowout. Recharge 20 seconds.
I get the impression that we have too many mechanics to be able to pick a good trait build. Perhaps merging things like meditations with concecrations (for example) might help.

I have to agree, when talking about WvW, i dont think about 1v1 but a big stand off between two large groups, at a wall or not.
The only option we have is scepter, which wont make you kill anyone, just leach some assists…. gap closers are no option in such a fight because the moment you get close you get blown up by such a big group.
Whenever I raise this point I get smartkitten replies about survivability. The survivability is simply not applicable against multiple foes.
Does Retaliation reflects dmg back when you block or Aegis blocks ?

It seems the general rule for powers, abilities or whatever is:
Whichever is weakest, that’s what it does.
A quick semi-fix would be to allow us to use the elite slot for regular skills.
shedim.8504This is because the devs failed
That’s a rather harsh assessment. I find myself incapable of arguing with it, though.
Previous suggestions have been: “Follow me!”, “Make Haste!” or “Move it!”
I like (to) “Move It!” (move it).
While I understand everybody’s frustrations with nightcapping, I think it should stay. It pains me to say it though, as I often play when there are few in WvW in the mornings and even the nearest tower is in enemy hands and fully upgraded, enemy zergs are patrolling the supply camp roads and there’s nothing a few people can do. It’s not a fun situation, but I see no solution to it. Working as intended. Sadly.
I agree with the OP. We need to be able to choose WHICH commanders to display and which to hide. A list of tick boxes would be cool.
You can do this after buffing the guardian.

I think it’d be a fair assessment, given their outrageous claims, that the Guardian apologists in this thread never played WvWvW.
Firstly, as a former Warhammer player, I have a lot of respect for the thoughts and opinions of Testpig.
Secondly, it’s not surprising to find that I agree with everything he said.
/agree. WTF were they thinking with Guardian?
Tsing.2891all knitting needles are pretty much the same!
Now you’re showing your ignorance. Maybe YOU need to learn more about knitting.
Because as it is now, it feels all over the place (I’ve read similiar feelings towards the traits on other forums).
To be honest, the Guardians trait lines are putting me off the Guardian, simply because everything feels like they are slotted in random places and it is hard to make a decent build.
[..]
I was wondering if the devs have had this feedback and may have thought of considering reslotting various trait lines in the Guardian traits to make things ‘flow’ better.
Great post. I could not agree more. This is yet another way in which the Guardian is a mess.
Your Guardian gets better as YOU get better.
I see this as a massive negative.
A profession can have troubles without being broken.
“Troubles”? Terming the issue differently doesn’t alter the issue.
Broken means: unplayable. Fundamental flaws that make it impossible to do well with a profession.
By that definition no class has ever been broken in any game, really, despite all the moaning.
Guardians only have real issues with big WvWvW fights.
Can we compromise with, “broken in WvWvW”?
signet of please-let-us-use-another-skill-in-this-slot-instead-because-all-the-elites-suck.
Shielding for a second. Is that really what this class is about? All the art and story suggests that the class is a hardass warrior-esque character in heavy armour. But no, it’s a flimsy temporary shielding caster who has to time everything perfectly and still hasn’t got enough to keep most other classes quiet.
A profession can has troubles without being broken.
“Troubles”? Terming the issue differently doesn’t alter the issue.
Only do it if you’re a masochist.
Shield is garbage. Focus is the new shield.
Guardian doesn’t need a powerup, it needs a FIX.
I’m going to keep it short, because it’s late and I’m wrong:
“Guardians are not broken and you should stop pretending they are.”
Fixed it for you and you are wrong. Wrong.
I agree with the original poster.
/agree.
I thought this might be a fun build to use in the PvP fray. Charge into the thick and let your enemies defeat themselves. What could be more fun?
Anyway I hope at least someone appreciates the novelty.
That’s exactly the point, isn’t it? We’re given novelty traits while other classes have something useful. I think it’s a fun idea, but again, retaliation is a weak, weak boon (because with no healers, if you’re being hit, you will die and the small damage of retribution will not kill the enemy before you do (die)).
(edited by Svarty.8019)
I’m just trying to see if stacking condition damage on a guardian can at all be justified compared to the other professions.
Rolling Guardian is an “excuse” for the talentless. At least I can blame my crap class for my lack of skill.
Asura get a racial poison field (at 15 seconds, possibly the best field a guardian can get), but what kind of goofball makes Asura Guardian? Pff!
PinCushion.7390Svarty.8019My traits are wrong, (and I’m waiting to get to the next respec) so I can’t really give advice in that respect, suffice to say it should involve the one-handed weapon 15% crit, and whatever blinds and aegis powers you can find.
I see this all over the place. It’s wrong. You don’t have to wait for a respec. You can talk to the trainer and respec your traits at any time. DON’T BUY A MANUAL FOR THIS! Choose the other option. It’ll cost you a silver or two.
If I weren’t level 59½ when I read this I would be more grateful, but thank you very much. Great to know
Why should the Guardian be the only class in this game to have to beg other engineers for mortars or buy siege weapons only to be viable in ranged combat and have something fun to do when defending towers/keeps?
Don’t you find it odd when people are actively avoiding an important and fun part of the game just because their class has no purpose there and they have no fun feeling lackluster and useless? This needs to be fixed asap!
For you, for all of us:
