Getting 16 stacks of might before your PvP game even starts (video)

2 x ekitten th with evasive arcane and speced for (1x stff 1x dagger dagger) support / tank.
My gear atm = 2 monk, 2 water and 2 earth (30% boon duration 20% protection duration) but if I wanted to go might support I would take might duration gear (3x 20% might duration gear = 60%+30% from arcane tree). That would give me 30ish seconds of might on blast finisher and on my 4 cantrips (auto earth armour cantrip).

Eruption +Ring of Fire then staff fire field + 3x dodge + 3xdodge + earth quake and churning earth + arcane wave
Key:
Staff Ele
Dagger / Dagger Ele

Each finisher is 3x might for 15sec from staff and 30sec from my dagger dagger
that’s 15 stacks of might for 15 seconds
and 15 stacks of might for 15 seconds
totaling 25 stacks of might (25 is max) for 15 seconds with around 10-15 remaining for a further 15 seconds.

To make this combo even easier the staff ele can just ignore his eruption as there are 25 stacks max and my (dagger dagger) might lasts longer so no use losing 15sec for 3 stacks of might

BTW dragons tooth area might effect counts from where you are standing for some reason, so if your using scepter just chillaxe in your ring of fire. Also churining earth starts the blast finisher as the skill starts, so midas well use it too (you need to land the skill still to get the might)

Paid tourneys are the next lvl. sPvP is up to 8v8 pick up group. Free Tourney is 5v5 pug / organized and rewards a chest and glory for 1 win, if you win all 3 match ups then you get a ticket and some glory and a gold chest.

Paid tourneys come after that, they are all premade vs premade, no pugs and require tickets to enter. When you play Paid Tourneys you get qualifying points which advance your team / person and will be used in some way for monthly tournaments. Wining monthly tournaments will put you in the running for yearly tournaments and if you win the yearly tournament your name will go on the wall of victors (to the back and to the left of the spvp game browser if you are facing him).

Not sure if monthly and yearly tourneys are implemented yet though

Don’t thieves have that spiny move that gives them stability and reflect projectile? Not sure if it stunbreakes but if he is in lightning and a glass cannon he will switch to fire next, and oh fire auto attack is a projectile, limiting him to hit you with his 4 skills then have to swap to earth or water for defense or not attack you.

GW1 was also hard to balance due to the secondary professions. I miss them too, but really, GW2 has a lot of other problems with current profession balance, I cringe to think how bad it would have been were I a Warrior/Thief.

I will add this, healing rain is a water field as well and lasts longer then geyser. And if you didn’t want to change out of water, just roll again for the free blast finisher. Look at regen removes conditions and dwayna gear (double Regen on heal 5% change to gain regen I think as well).

Trait: Powerful Aura

Does anyone have any exact information on what skill types it procs on? From what I have seen, it doesn’t stun ranged attacks, but everyone within melee range of me gets stunned, just not sure what attacks they are using at the time.

Melee = melee weapon, not ranged in melee range
Fire Shield(is actually an aura): Melee only. Can be obtained by the signet grants fire shield trait
Shocking Aura: Melee only
Frosty Aura: Anyone
Magnetic Aura: Ranged only

Edit, forgot to mention that it will only apply an affect IF an opponent attacks you. So shocking will do didily squat unless a warrior or his melee friends are smashing your face in.

Help with burning speed

Run over downed people with it to get a kill without having to call flagpoles from the sky.

Use it to run away from people, since they’ll have to go around your giant flaming skidmark. Don’t forget to drop Ring of Fire, so they’ll have to run around your giant flaming donut too.

Turn off melee assist, and use it to run through melee attackers so they lose attacks. Saves endurance.

Use it on people in corners. You’ll do way more damage because every tick of the “skid mark” part will hit them.

^ This, burning speed also gets you far enough away that you can rtl out of there without worrying too much on auto targeting something (if you use auto target like I do).

Isn’t the entire point of condition builds (besides cutting through high-toughness bunker builds) to apply pressure to an opponent and get them to blow all their survival cooldowns?

Have you seen how many conditions a ele can remove without even poping a defensive cd (unless you count healing rain as a defensive cd).

If Healing rain lasted its full duration that’s 9 conditions removed.
Then the regen from your free armour of earth.
5% chance to gain regen from dwayna.
Then using cd’s: there’s the 2 you remove from using your heal whilst in water (2x regen thanks to dwayna).
Then the 2 other cantrips when you need to use them and if you can’t source regen then you have geyser + dodging twice + arcane blast to heal you up to full.

I can tell you from experience that condition damage ele against that is impossible.

Downed State - A constructive assessment

Elementalist, uh i don’t even know what they get in downed state, im gonna guess its garbage?

Its an immobilize, very good if you foe is a zombie at full range. Very bad if he has half a brain because he can close the gap before the immobilize can even finish its cast animation.

I agree that in sPvP all downed stats should be the same / similar. Thief can peg 2 or 3 rocks in the time it takes for an ele to lightning once. Thief stealth whilst downing is bad, eles can also mist form whilst downing.

PvE downed stats should stay as is (with a change to ele’s #2)

Dagger/dagger Build for those who want to try it out

I play dagger dagger, as a bunker build, I normally just switch when everything is used with highest priority on what I need next. Do I need to kd to stop a stomp, or do I need 10sec protection → yes → earth. I also try to use my updraft at the start of the fight so it will be on cd near then end in case I need to stop an enemy res or friendly being stomped. I mostly swap fire / water (evasive arcana, clearics amulet) and fire does the most damage. Air for me is rtl away from a fight and the aura in a fight. I use air 2 only after updraft or earthquake as it never hits any other time.

Mists: which practice NPC gives you the most challenge with the ele.

The lord is to the east of the mists island. I find the thief hardest because all it ever does to me is drop smoke field then offload. Unlimited blindness hell yea, the smoke field leaves, and there’s another one. Its unload has 100% projectile finisher, instead of 20% annoying. Other then that I can fight 3 of them at a time, not the thief though she can go to hell. The warrior is so fun to fight, I can get it down 75% hp before it even hits me, then it proceeds to face roll me into defensive mode.

Guys dont deny the Elementalist is weak. By the way kinda hard to dodge when Eles need to channel their magic.

Lesson on how to dodge a few elementalist attacks (Mainly S/D and D/D)

  1. Strafe to the left or right
  2. There isn’t one

This will dodge:
Dagger / Dagger

  • Magnetic Grasp (imob and pull)
  • Fire Grab (fires number 5 and most damaging skill if foe is burning)
  • Lightning Touch (it has huge frontal effect, but misses if you are slightly to the side. Air, applies weakness)
  • Ride The Lightning (if you are side stepping and an ele casts this there is a chance they will be self stunned for 3 seconds, or will get stunned for 1 sec where the game thought you were going to be but weren’t. Will usually defiantly stun them for 3 sec if you move forward and back repetitively, or stop moving the moment you see them turn into a ball of lightning)
  • Churning Earth (but its an obvious one)

Scepter / X

  • Dust Devil (Earth forward aoe blind)
  • Dragons Tooth (fire high damage)

Staff Bunker Thoughts

I think guardians bunker build is more silly. I will be holding a point, and now I’m on my but outside of the point and over time the guardian will claim the point with all of his knock you out of the ring skills. Even with armour of earth and free amour of earth. Not to mention that if I don’t take mist form then a pure backstab thief will kill me most times. Not to bad when he attacks the point alone, I can normally get out of his combo, but still sometimes I will go down. And when your in a 3 min fight with that guardian who just took your point by knocking you out every cd he gets, that thief comes along and suddenly … your dead

Downstate makes it impossible to win 1v2 fights...

Downed stat atm is just unfair to some classes (I’m looking at eles, yes I do play one, and I know they are reworking it, but atm, so bad).

In a 1 v 2 situation on my ele, I will widdle away at the weakest foe, kill him then try to finish him like this:

1: (dagger/dagger) switch to lightning, walk past him so his friend is right behind me, the use updraft (back toward the downed guy. That puts the other fellow on the ground for half of the downed animation and a small distance away, I’ve also poped my saved stability (Armour of Earth) and I can finish the first guy without taking too much damage.

2: If my stability is on cd the I will do the same, (updraft → start finish) and the moment I’m interrupted I use cleansing fire to get straight back up, switch to earth and earthquake to knockdown that other guy, then start the finish again (unfortunately a warrior will vengeance in that time). If a warrior has vengeance, pop swiftness and kite both till the warrior dies.

scepter/dagger, I’ll drop a dragons tooth on the downed guy and smash some earth 1’s (bleed stacks) onto his face and just ignore him, if hes a good player he will try to heal while I’m occupied, those bleeds will buy me some time to wait for any cd I need to use to finish him. I will also try to get a churning earth off where possible and dodge over to him (evasive arcana, and dodge so that I will be near him at the end) to interrupt his heal.

If his friend trys to res him, dragons tooth (if in fire) then k/d, blowback. The dragons tooth and the kd / bb will hit around the same time, doing a bit of damage to the downed guy making more work for the other to res him.

Remember, if you are fast enough, you can teleport behind the guy your downing to get out of range of an interrupt. And if you are really fast it is possible to use this to dodge a warriors downed 2 and finish a teleporting thief.

Again, as mention above, start finish → mist form. You are invulnerable to damage (not conditions) and cant be interrupted.

As downing is such an important part of the fight I will usually save armour of earth for that (stability) and when using mist form I will save that instead of armour of earth.

Q: What is a "bunker"? Is it only certain classes and builds, or is it an Engineer item?

A bunker build is said all above, you may not notice them in sPvP as people just zerg everywhere. But if you change your thief to pure glass cannon and find a gaurdian or elem on a point that you cant get away with 3 or 4 hits to kill them, thats probably a bunker.

The best class at bunker I believe is the guardian. It gets a lot of retaliation and most of its interrupt abilities push you off the point so they can cap it while you fight them ( so annoying). Other good classes are the Elementalist and I’ve heard the engi as well. Our tPvP team is running with necro bunker, his build is quite strong. The trade of for bunker builds though is they can hold a point forever, even against 2 or 3 foes, but they can’t kill those 2 or 3 guys. They may eventually wifdle them down but usually cant kill them. Though I have seen some variations that are strong defenders with a good damage output.

Weapon Set Changing during tpvp - should it be allowed

A rational thread regarding the changing on weapons during a tpvp game.

I.e, you open up your backpack, equip new set, use appropriate skills, after battle open backback and swap sets etc.

Now I play ele, I have a build which accomodates s/d, s/f and staff so thats like 60 skills I can utilitse, numerous hastes, fields w/e. And it’s obviously great as I love the flexibility.

However from an e-sports perspective, do spectators really want to see people opening their backpacks every 3 seconds and swapping out? Surely tactical gameplay should be around what you enter the tournament with, not what you can swap out to.

Will be interesting to see the responses. I’d be quite happy with a block on weapon set changing, but then again I do like the current flexibility.

I’m sure your ele would like to enter a full ranged enemy party (not likely but an example) and be like well kiten, I only have 2 daggers and RTL is bugged, what do now, get kited to hell and back. I think it would be fair if we had weapon swap out of combat perhaps, so for those, its a ranged team, get out my scepter or staff and not get face crunched into the ground.

I personally like changing gear in sPvP and tPvP, I run my ele with cleric’s amulet for the 14k health, if a backstab thief gets the advantage of me then I know to switch to knights for the extra defense. Your traits are already locked to the tree your in, so you cant switch from full offensive to full defensive (but you could change around those offensive traits you’ve used). Rangers are bad for it, they use both warhorn moves out of combat then run at you with 2 diff weapon sets.

Perhaps a CD on skills when getting a weapon out of you inventory, so your auto attack is fine but the rest go on their cd. So for ele you couldn’t just whip out a dagger then rtl off into the distance replacing you staff again. And a CD on changing a second time, so you can only swap weapons once every 1 min

TL;DR

  • This would screw elems who are dagger dagger and all enemies are ranged (untill gap closers are fixed)
  • If your running a low hp amulet your stuck with it (painfull vs 1 or 2 shot thieves)
  • IDEA: Put all skills on newly changed weapon on CD
  • IDEA: Put weapon changed on CD so you can only fiddle with your gear every minute or so

Movement skills breaks snares trait. That is sword 2, greatsword 5 and maybe 3, axe F1 I think, bulls charge etc etc.

How to fix the elementalist trait bug (work around) create a second elementalist for spvp :p. The trait bug affects my friend all the time (he runs the exact same build in pvp and pve) and he notices almost straight away. I think if you weren’t used to having things like unlimited condition removal, or super heals for water dodge then you wouldn’t notice the difference. So if your previous build was something like 20 20 10 10 10 or whatever you would need for 10% damage in fire 10% in air etc etc then you prob wouldn’t notice much. If you use earth shield on 50%, arcane shield on 25%, water dodge, changing elements gives you a buff (10sec protection in earth = very nice) then you would defiantly notice a difference.

I’m gonna love K/D ratio on my Elementalist. 0 kills / 5 000 000 deaths. Not cause a I’m a bad player but because I run one of those builds that don’t get 1 shot, the support / bunker that can’t do any damage to kill anyone lol.

Newb field/finisher questions

30 in arcane = evasive arcana, every dodge is a blast finisher, but the effect of staying in the same attune goes on 9 sec cd. So dodging twice in water will give Cleansing Wave + dodge finisher, and dodging again within 9 sec will net a blast finisher but no cleansing wave as it will be on cd. You can also water dodge for CW then fire dodge for Fire Burst (cool down is only across the one element)

Another not for dagger off handers. When casting churning earth, the first part of the cast starts the combo finisher, but you don’t get the buff till the skill goes off. So if you start in a fire field, then the fire field wears off, then you finish churning you will still get might. Have only tested in the fire field, haven’t tried in a healing field yet.

Earth 3 “obstructed” seriously, hes right in front of me. Earth 3, enemy meandered to the side, miss. I use drakes breath all the time, normally cast it and spin whilst there’s an invisible thief nearby, silly fool will usually get set on fire. Water Healing cone is similar, I assume you don’t go into water much

My friend seems to be happy with his but still has some grips (ele downed state we are looking at you, and only 1 trait for summon weapons). Bet you cant guess our builds. Mine: 0 0 10 30 30. His 0 0 10 30 30. He has his build setup to 100% condition removal at all times and uses a staff. He runs the exact same build in pve and pvp and gets kitten at having to re-slot his traits in pvp lol. I normally run scepter dagger for lots of dodges but am currently trying dagger dagger to get out more damage.

We have some good stuff, staff with sigil of energy and evasive arcana and arcane wave.

  1. Cast eruption (earth)
  2. Switch water during eruption
  3. Cast water 5 (healing rain?) over eruption
  4. Dodge if in combat within field
  5. Dodge again within field
  6. Arcane wave within field
  7. Switch attunement
  8. Dodge again within field

5 Blast healing finisher

I have some gripes with broken skills, dagger air 2, dagger fire 5, dagger earth 3 hardly ever hit or get “obstructed” when it does actually hit. Dagger air 4 bugs to much. And finally downed state, have no idea what the devs were thinking there, not sure if they just put the stomp in to close to release to test everyone’s downed abilities or what.

If they fixed those moves I would be ecstatic to play my ele, currently I only air 2 after air 5 and earth 3 within melee range for the imob or after earth 4.

Ele has a lot of good tools vs thief as well. The high damage backstab ones will put you on your but quite quickly if you don’t play right but once the fight is within your favor and you down them you win. Immediately start a down (if its a good idea to), they will teleport, then simply press (dagger dagger) air 5, fire 3, or earth 3 and you will zip over to their new location (normally) so you can down their sorry but.

TL;DR

  • Elementalist is a fun class to play and I quite enjoy playing it (its my pvp main)
  • Their bugs are annoying and they would be much better when fixed
  • Downed state is pure kiten
  • Lots of good tools at their disposal but harder to play then some other classes
  • Defense builds seem most viable atm

Why can't I be a glass cannon or condition ele?

personally I’ve never felt I gained much from stacking toughness on my Ele. The copious healing/cleansing is 2nd to none though, and there are a lot of ways to get Protection proccing which feels far more substantial alongside a good amount of HP. I have no problems speccing into both and still doing solid dmg.

As for dealing with Thiefs, two words: Shocking Aura

I had a backstab thief kill me through Shocking Aura last night, must have had stability, not that I could see it on his invisible kitten Normally don’t have to much trouble with backstab thieves but this guy was silly, had to change out to Knights just to live. Gonna have to swap out cleansing fire for mist form for sPvP again and swap back in tPvP.

There were so many people playing thieves and mesmers last night. Our team had 1 war, me (ele) 1 engi 4 mesmers and 1 thief. Theirs had 1 engi 1 ele and 5 thieves.

Can’t tell I left that game lol, straight into another with almost the same amount of thieves :s. Finally got into a game without a silly number of one class and got stuck in a battle with a guardian for a bout 3 mins before his ranger friend rocked up. Downed the ranger pretty easily then got zerged by their team before I could stomp him. Them zerg matches lol.

I find that (for pvp anyway) the gear goes toward the elements. Gear is designed for all other professions to be for 2 weapons. Eles have 4 weapons. So if you take Cleric or Shaman amulet you are water earth main. Take Carrion, Rabid Earth main Fire now and then. Rampagers or Beserkers Fire Air. Knights or Soldiers Earth Fire/Air. Since their is no real way of buffing all our specs except Celestial we will be bias towards on or 2 specs.

I have gain protection on entering earth, that’s fantastic but when I’m using Shamans (scepter/dagger) I stay in earth, losing the protection bonus I could be getting by swapping to it every 10-12 seconds. With the same jewel, Air is just there for ride the lightning and the blind/blowback every now and then, the damage is so low there is no use staying in air. I switch to fire for dragons tooth, ring of fire might combo and straight back to earth. When my health goes down 20% straight into water for the 3 heals (evasive arcana) then back to earth.

The traits don’t help either, 20% more damage whilst in x attunement, 20% chance to set foes alite, only in fire etc.

Remove condition on regen + Glyph of renewal gives regen in water + dwayna set gives regen on heal = 2 conditions removed on heal + a third if you swap into water whilst healing. So many conditions removed

Don’t know much about eles in PvE, but I do know what this does.
Fire:

  • Flame Blast – Engineer flamethrower skill 2
  • Blast finisher as well as damage and blast damage

Water

  • Cleansing Wave – Elementalist dagger off hand 5 (water)
  • Blast finisher and a nice heal

Air

  • Blinding Flash – Elementalist secpter 3 (air)
  • Blinds and I think it might be a blast finisher not to sure as I don’t use air dodge to much

Earth

  • Churning Earth – Elementalist dagger off hand 5 (earth)
  • Doesn’t actually do churning earth, think the bug thread says it does earthquake (dagger off hand 4 earth) but I’ve never see it do the knockdown.
  • Blast finisher and damage

I use Clerics Amulet / Shamans Amulet and 2 Runes of Monk (heal power 15% boon duration) 2 runes of water (heal power + 15% boon duration) and 2 runes of earth (condition damage + 20% protection duration). The idea for runes came from another elementalist on the forums, I tried it and find the protection last quite a long time. Weapon has a rune of energy (50% endurance back on weapon swap [attunement swap for us eles])

He uses full healing power gear and runes of dwayna in sPvP (when using a heal skill you give regen to others as well as regen duration)

What you want to know about evasive arcana is that dodge rolls are blast finishers. Each dodge has a internal cd of 9 seconds, so you cant dodge twice for a double heal. But you can change attunement, so you can do a fire dodge then swap water and do a water dodge one after another. Also for some reason, 2 dodges in a row are both considered blast finishers. So you don’t get 2 cleansing waves in a row, but you do get 1 cleansing wave with a blast finisher then a second blast finisher if you dodged again in water. With rune of energy (pvp rune) you get 50% endurance back on swap (9sec cd), if your using a staff then you put down your Healing Rain (staff 5) then arcane blast dodge, dodge, change attunement dodge for 4 blast finisher aoe heals + cleansing wave. If you start with eruption first then you have 5 blast finisher heals as well as 1 cleansing wave.

Edit: you will hit like a kitten with this build, I normally swap in dagger dagger and berserks amulet for extra damage as the protection duration and heals keep me up for a while.

The easiest way to lvl your other attunements is attunement swapping. This advice is probably to late but if you start killing something in fire you can latter swap to what you need to lvl and the kill will count to that element (as long as you land the last hit) and only that element (you wont lvl fire and x, only the last element landing the attack). I found that out the hard way trying to lvl a warrior in beta and not unlocking any skills for my weapon swap weapon (tried using auto attack then would change cause the creature was killing me)

Thief Glass Cannons etc. Stomping SPVP (it's a mess guys)

If you have Lightning Flash up and need a faster stomp on a Thief, turn your camera to the direction they’re facing. Start the stomp, when they blink, blink back on top of them. Requires some speed, but can be done. Thieves also have an easy time with targeted shadowsteps (steal, I-Strike), and I think the same can be said for Guardians teleport Meditation. Mesmers can also use the blink trick like Eles can.

I was testing the blink before hand but by starting a down then teleporting to a different downed player, it doesn’t work. But by accident yesterday when trying out my new build in mists, I tapped blink instead of armour of earth and rocked up on the other side of the warrior npc and still downed him. Also, when thieves blink away, sometimes they don’t go far enough and you still finish them, same goes with Mesmer. Hopefully everyone knows that with a Mesmer the one with the red ( v ) above their head is the real one. Also, unless changed recently, you can deselect target and the real Mesmer is the one with the name, the reset are clones (similar to mirror images in wow). But spotting the real Mesmer isn’t all that hard, its the one not auto attacking you :p.

How to fix thieves downed state? Swap 2 with the elementalist, problem solved, they can have a crappy (bugged doesn’t activate till a second after used) immobilize + stealth and we can have teleport + mist form.

Facing a good thief

Don’t stop moving, if you keep moving it makes it harder for thieves to hit you. Endure pain when you hear their attacks, they are quite audible if your music is not turned up to loud. Pop endure pain, can be used at any time. When he stealths smash auto attack or switch to a aoe weapon (longbow) and put your fire field below your feet, you wont unstealth them but you will still stack on the damage or they will run out of stealth if they decide not to attack. Once these guys 1 trick is up they will either stealth and recuperate for the next attack or just leave having used all their stuff to no avail.

Once a thief is visible you have a 3 second window to blow him up as he cannot restealth in that duration. After reading the part about trying to frenzy 100 blades I must say this, that skill locks you down and increases damage to you by 50%. If he is a good thief as you mentioned you don’t want to do this combo unless 100% sure you can land it and having endure pain as a backup, especially if you are all damage and no health or toughness. 2100 toughness is about the baseline, you say you have high vital, are you in the tactics tree? Look at the defense tree some goodies in there (free endure pain, free stability, free retaliation, reflect projectile on block = 3sec on shield and increased stance duration)

Chasing a thief with no swiftness is a mistake, I would just let them run off and go and cap the point nearest. I can normally fight off a thief, its the ones that will attack you when your already in a fight that usually get me. I’ll be fighting in a 2v2 or more then hear the “kitten kitten” and think “I’m gonna die” as I watch my delicious hp pour out. Doesn’t help that I’m an elementalist and get immediately targeted. It is quite funny in a 1 thief v 2 of us situation. The thief will try to kill my ele first (tanky support build), and leave the other guy who has no health but a crap tonne of damage to just slaughter him.

so… do you perhaps have any evidence of what you’re saying is true? i, and probably 90% of your readers highly doubt this.

I don’t find this unbelievable, I run tPvP with my s/d s/f support ele and my friends Staff support ele. I have been thinking of changing to using staff, the 3 heals mentioned above are ridiculously good, he uses healing rain over geyser though as the field is bigger lasts longer and he can dodge a second time with in it for another blast finisher.

Ele’s in general are broken, its got nothing to do with the weapons as such, more the skills they offer and the traits. Staff = mostly aoe (aoe has low damage cause it hits 5 people), dagger = mostly single target melee dps, scepter = mostly single target ranged dps.

If they fixed the bugs the class would be a lot better. At the moment there is more work for the same or less payoff as other classes. That will always be the case as we have 20 skills per weapon, they have 5 skills per weapon with weapon swap (10 in total). Therefore our work should be twice as much (skills 2x less effective as the same kind in a different class). So thieves (single target high damage class) will hit like a truck and we will hit like a car.

For other classes to do damage/support they need to have those weapons, for e.g. warrior can do damage with greatsword then change to mace sword for a little support. Most of their support skills are in their utilities. We can do single target damage (air, currently laughable unless fully specced for it) then switch to aoe damage (fire) then switch to defense (earth) then throw in some support (water) without changing weapons or using any utilities. If our skills were as strong as the other classes were then we would effectively be using 4 weapons at the same time to full power and effectiveness

Our guild runs our tourney team with 2 support/bunker eles, a pure damage thief, bunker necro and a damage ele (we’re trying to get him to change to guardian so I can change out my ele for my warrior roamer). We’re not the best team in the world at the moment but we are getting much better and the 2 support eles just about never go down.

FIX ride the lightning

I hate riding backwards into people. In times where you would have gotten away safe, you actually kill yourself because you forgot you still had something targeted. I want it to always go the way I’m facing. There are plenty of times when you cannot de-target fast enough in WvW.

This happens to me to, I smash deselect target and usually a rangers pet or Chieftain/Svania in pvp will hit me and make me target them. A solution is to turn off auto targeting but then you will need to manual target everything or it will always miss. This was fine on my ele but had to turn it back on for my warrior (kept missing eviscerate)

My biggest trouble with the thief is that he can backstab me then do anything else and wont be unstealthed for 2 or 3 seconds. Not sure if its a lag thing or not, I live in Australia. My friend who lives in the same town as me has the same problem, they don’t de-stealth till their pistol whip is almost finished (an un-hasted one).

A detailed look at the Elementalist

Glyphs, ah glyphs. Aside from Glyph of Renewal, which is a laughable skill after its recent change, most glyphs look like fun, powerful skills from their descriptions. Then you try using them. It’s not that they’re terrible skills, especially when traited, we just have better options. Glyph of Storms does mediocre damage that is easily surpassed by wielding a staff; I’d much rather use a crit-proc weapon sigil over Glyph of Elemental Power; and Glyph of Lesser Elementals only gives us a squishy boost to damage for a short while. I don’t think that Glyphs need a redesign, they just need to pack a bigger punch before I start using them.

I personally don’t use glyphs, only the healing glyph and elite. The utilities you got me at cantrips. My friend runs a support/tank build and he uses Glyph of Renewal (heal), Glyph of lesser ele, Glyph of storms and some sort of stun break as well as Glyph of greater ele (elite).
Glyph of Lesser ele and Greater ele are very good when summoned in ice/water. The ice pet adds not much damage, but it puts down a chill field and heals allies. If you summon both pets, one will drop a chill field then the other will after the first field has finished.
Glyph of storms we viewed as crap, but, in earth the storm will do damage and blind every second it is up, helping to get rid of a large amount of damage from the opposing team.

When I first looked at Arcane skills I immediately began salivating over the potential of these as guaranteed crits to proc added affects in addition to their great burst damage. Well, that’s not the way the world works. I believe (could be wrong) that currently the most used arcane skill in Arcane Wave, just for it’s use as a blast finisher. These skills offer pathetic damage for their CDs, and crit-procs in GW2 just aren’t powerful enough to justify them for that reason. I personally wish that they just offered more damage.

I use the arcane skills when using a glass cannon dps build. Usually I ride the lightning in, casting scepter 2, 3 and arcane wave, arcane blast at the same time, then arcane power and let the not 5 crits roll in. You need to do this on an unaware foe, or you will miss with 4 skills to his dodge lol, this has happened to me

Edit: I should mention that we both do pvp, his build is the same in both pve and pvp and I only run my ele in pvp.

How do you kill a Thief as a D/D Toughness Ele?

That build is exact traits of my ele build lol. I’m trying out adventures runes and Sigil of energy, that lets me swap to carrion over shaman with the dodge dodge, heal dodge at end of heal swap weapons dodge immunity lol, plus the constant vigor regeneration. I must check out the rune setup your using, especial if you can keep all of that protection. I should mention that I’m using scepter dagger and primarily stack bleeds though mainly though churning earth teleport in big groups, and scepter auto attack at all other times.

Off Hand Axe

I’ve been playing around with my warrior build, we need someone with dps to run with our support/bunker guys in tPvP. Basic role is to roam between points and help clear out pesky foes quickly. Currently I’m using axe/axe and greatsword / x + warhorn out of combat to maneuver around.

I do enjoy spinning at people but with the lesser damage I find that using auto attack is much better in most situations and the only added benefit of axe 5 is to dodge whilst doing it. I did previously use it for adrenaline gain but now i just use berserker’s stance just before I reach my attack point so I can open with eviscerate for some silly 9k damage and finish the fight fast.

So I might change out off hand axe for shield to gain some survivability. I find a lot of people in sPvP and tourney will just kite axe 5 with swiftness and slows. Adding in a shield or mace will give me some control and defense ability’s.

This also happens to the npc fighters in the mists. They normally go invulnerable and reset after I use an invulnerable skill, like warrior shield 5 (3sec block)
