Auto target off, takes a bit to get used to, thieves are quite annoying with this off especially with moves like earth 1, that will miss unless you are trying to aim it.

The fun part is, when joining spvp with 2 people you will be on the same team maybe once in 10 matches. And those other 9 you just duel each other at a point till a spot clears up then switch.

When you first ever enter the mists you aren’t in the mists, you are in a training area, you need to leave that if thats where you are. On your map there’s a small island south of the Hall Of Memories Island. If you are on the small island, head north (up on the map), there will be an npc near a portal, she will take you to the actual mists lobby.

Then follow the above. There is a pvp trainer guy just outside of the portal when you arrive, he will show the map and whats around like scouts in pve

You can still hit thieves when they are stealthed with you single target skills if they are silly enough to stand right in front of you. I’m an ele, I don’t even have mist form on my bar, and I’ve also removed armour of earth, why? cds are too long for my build. Also MS doesn’t count to holding a point and armour of earth is no longer a 15 sec stability.

Personally, I run 10 10 0 30 20 or 10 15 0 25 20
I use the new Knights ammy to get out more damage, however I don’t have any extra toughness. So a 100blades warrior will drop me or put me into full defensive straight up. I also carry shamans and celestial just incase (usually have all the ammies but been lvling my toon so it takes to much inventory space). Anything I cant do with stats I get through boons. My utils are Signet heal, Cleansing fire, Frost Bow and Lightning Flash (teleport). Elite is Fiery Great Sword on Foefire (breaks the big door in about 5 sec, 2 if there are 2 using it) and usually elemental on other maps. Fiery gs also helps you get away from people summon it, teleport, use the charge and spin and bye.

The reason I stay alive is because I don’t blow all my cds, I leave my Frost aura, RTL and Lightning flash for getting out of hairy situations. If I’m out of range you cant kill me now can you? And then you chase me through my fire field, mmm free damage and burning, turn into fire grab into earthquake into churning teleport dead walk off and heal.

My first build was pure damage scepter dagger, so much fun, till the 50% damage nerf.

My second build was almost exactly the same as my friends bunker ele but with dagger dagger appropriate traits instead of staff ones, 0 0 10 30 30. Some time later those dapheinox’s 2 forums came out. So I tried his build, liked it (0 10 0 30 30) mixed it up a bit with 0 15 0 25 30, very good against everyone but necros (1 condition removal every 40 sec). Then I went into my current build, 10 15 0 25 20 due to evasive arcana nerf. Sometimes I put 30 into arcane for the arcane skills cause conditions so arcane wave is an aoe imob while your casting churning earth.

How do *you* use conjures?

1. Which conjure you use.
Frost Bow

2. Where you use. (pve/wvw/spvp/dungeons)
My dagger dagger build (basically the same in pve and pvp)

3. Your impression of your skill level with it.
Long CDs on the skills, good to fire 2 3 4 5 then drop
Auto attacking 1 is fine as unless your going to holding out for the CDs
5 is amazing 4 second stun, cannot be stun broken unless there is another enemy around

4. The basic tactic around the use.
Use teleport and frost bow 5 to get a nice 4 – 5 sec stun

5. The specific combinations.
Start casting 5 before the enemy reaches the conquest point (just out of range of your teleport) teleport in-front of the foe (the teleport damage will remove aegis) then the frost bow 5 will hit them in the face freezing them for 4-5 sec. Then switch attunement use frost bow 4 then switch attunement frost bow 3 at point blank then drop it and continue to cc them with your dagger dagger skills.

6. Build used as its relevant and why
I’m running a variant of daphenoix’s dd build. I have 15 in air for lightning strike on switch to air. And at least 5 in arcane for fury is required here. 5 arcane gives you fury on attunement swap, so when you switch attunement before using the frost bow skills you gain 20% extra crit, which is extra damage and extra crit procs (such as crit sigils, traits etc). Teleport is also important, as it does damage when it lands, with my build it grants vigor, regen and 3x might. The damage on arrival will remove aegis from guardians or anyone else who may have it, allowing your frost bow to actually hit and not be auto blocked. 15 air has the same effect, switching to air before using the frost bow will cause lightning strike and remove the aegis. Finally, using teleport whilst using bow 5 will allow you to keep mobile, so if a warrior is charging you, you can port backwards and bow him before he can reach you.

Bow 5 will be unsuccessful on a target with stability but if they don’t have stability they cannot stun break out.

I would be happy with not heal the user but gain no downed penalty. Currently if you go down 3ish times then vapor form, when it ends you die.

Frost bow 5 is not just a stun for 5 seconds, you cant use stun break to get out of it, you need a friend to break it (similar to grasping roots). You can lightning flash and teleport still stunned and you can use your stun breaks (but they go on cd and don’t break the ice). This skill shows the ice block animation on stability targets but doesn’t actually effect them.

Also you need to use this at the right time, if the opponent is moving to much it has a tendency to miss with an “out of range” message. Using it on a kd / stunned / imob foe would be best, however, with the cast time of the bow and the cast time of the skill you will not be able to do this with your own kd skills unless the bow is already on the ground and you have counted the time for bow 5 to be off cd (or didn’t use it on your summoned one). Having a friend with the second bow is 10 second ice block if timed correctly.

One more thing that I didn’t mention before due to it probably being nerfed. If you start casting frost bow 5 on a target and then it goes into stealth I have noticed that it will still track them a bit. Not sure if it is the wavy animation the shot has or if it actually tracks the target, need to do some more testing.

A fix to make conjures viable and other buffs

Most people taking the slot to use the conjure are looking to use it for its full duration/charges. I was like this at a time, would whip out the bow and get frustrated with the CDs. Then I learnt they were gonna turn us into lunch, that’s when I knew I had to escape.

Now I summon the bow, teleport bow 5 in your face, point blank 3 then 4 then drop and go back to d/d CC abilities to keep you out of the ring (pvp of course) then hope that no one steals my other bow while I internally count down as to when bow 5 will be off cd. I’m usually running cleansing fire, frost bow, lightning flash and fgs depending on map.

Haven’t tried to much of flame axe, as I said before my friend uses it in pvp to great effect (16 sec burning). I use the FGS because it is awesome at breaking the door to the lord. Takes about 2 seconds with 2 people and 2 FGS.

FGS whilst immobed and the enemy is at point blank is ridiculous. Not being able to cast whilst moving on an elite is horrid though.

BTW, 10 fire, 15 air, 25 water, and 20 arcane is nice for this setup. You can still change attunements whilst using the conjures. So swapping just before bow 3, or swapping before bow 4 and then again when possible is quite good extra fury ftw. I also have a habit of using my cantrips offensively at the start of the fight, then holding them after the 20% reduced cd towards then end of the fight.

So that lightning flash into bow 3 into your face is 3 stacks of might (fire trait) + regen and vigor (water trait) + x buff from whichever attunement I just went to (if not fire or water that’s 1 more buff) + 3 more might on swap (sigil) + fury from swap + 10% damage (water 25 trait [f,m,r,v,p or s]) + 1k damage if you switch to air + bow 3 for most of them to crit (almost guaranteed vigor from arcane trait) swap again bow 4 (fury and same buffs as last time sigil might on internal cd) drop into cleansing fire and try to land fire grab as they are going for their heal, or just interrupt if they aren’t a silly block all attacks whilst healing / I now have 10 mins of stability class (Exaggeration on that second part).

I’m lvling with dd, first thing you want to do is go to the TP and by some cheap but good weapons for your lvl every 5 to 10 levels, unless you get some good drops. I’m currently droping 3+ enemies with the train them through your fire fields, kd then churning earth teleport kite a bit. Ranged mobs need to be LOS pulled or killed asap.

Elementalist frost bow 5 skill, 3-4 second freeze unbreakable by the frozen target. To avoid this skill, move left slightly and the caster will get either “out of range” at near point blank, or “obstructed” when there is nothing in the road.

The dim witted gaurds: “what was that”,

“Ouch, hey guys I’m getting my kitten kicked in here?”

Announcer: “Your Lord is under attack”

Guard: “our lord is under attack? nah, cant be, the gate isn’t down yet, are you having us on again announcer”

The Lord dies and the thief teleports away.

“Who’s that guy” says one gaurd
“He’s on green team?” (get it, green team, green dye)
“No green team on our list, only got to look out for the red ones, best ask the lord. “Hey lord … Lord … lord” turns around “OMG, the lord is dead”
“Not possible, the gate isn’t down”

So easy fix, attacking the lord aggros the guards.
Also, either allow all classes with teleports to go through the door, or don’t allow anyone too.

When is it okay to run?

I duel joined a tourney with my friend, after it finally pop (about 3 people had gone offline and we had to continuously reque) my internet lagged and died. So it was him and 3 others vs 5. He held 4 of them off on a point for almost all of the match, almost dropped on of them and then that guy he almost dropped ran off.

In tourney I will stay as long a possible (bunkerish ele spec) and holding v 3 is very beneficial, means your 4 has to only fight 2. In hot join I will kd all they zerging enemies I can then run to the point they just took. If your not a bunker then you could not compete with that guy that said you were a chicken. He is probably built to last forever vs 3 or 4 guys. Unless you had the same build or something similar he is just as chicken, hiding behind his in his tank, saying how he can hold out longer then you in a jeep.

Tourneys do give low glory vs zerging. However, standing and waiting in que for a tourney is a waist of time. High tail your but to the spvp browser and join a hot join while you wait. You can be in spvp when the tourney pops and thus can still earn glory whilst waiting.

Frenzy + chop / double chop / tripple chop = better then frenzy + whirling axe unless fighting a group, then your are probably dead before your frenzy ends.

Its about 7.5% of crits and you do different conditions based on attunement. The conditions are listed the same a glyph of similar skill. At least I believe they are the conditions applied.

My friend runs S/D with the flame axe and there is usually 2 fire walls up on a point, as well as 16 seconds of burn when he pulls it out + all the other crap it gives you, like fire shield and some decent damage. This weapon is alright vs people without condition removal, but not so good elsewise.

I would like to either A. be able to change to a weapon and back once summoned, or B. have that weapon replace its elements skills, e.g. water would become frost bow till dropped.

it takes a couple of seconds to break down the door in a bunker spec.

Thieves are really anyoning because they get past the door then past the mobs. Getting past the door should not be allowed, getting past the mobs I don’t really care about other then aesthetics. Pretty bad guards if they let the lord die.

Why tourny wins in monthly PvP achievement?

Rank in this game is just a grind in pvp, it means nothing. My rank is 20ish, my second account is rank 1ish. So if I were to rank up a lot to like 40, then swap to my other account and then do paid tourneys people would think I’m a noob now wouldn’t they.

Rank only really shows that they have played the pvp for a duration. I’ll also add that it doesn’t show if they are glory hounds or actually play the game. For e.g. my friend runs with the zerg, gets lots of kills and lots of glory, we play about the same amount and he is rank 30ish. What do I do? counter the zerg of course, get the win for the team while they fight in the middle and get about 20-30% of the glory he gets.

Tourneys don’t need a team to do, although it does help alot if you have coms and a good build setup. You can que solo. Press free tourney on the left, then click roster then click submit and you will be qued. Free tourney wins count toward this monthly, keep at it though as you may run into the dreaded premade who will stomp you into the ground.

PuG que PuG would be nice, but would probably not pop either tourney as much

Yea, I would use the 20 point fire for a attunement based aura on heal sig and signet element based aura (fire sig = fire shield, water sig = frosty aura etc.). Obviously they would need different durations, but atm fire shield is really bad. If it stacked fire duration when near a foe and not just when he attacked it might be a bit better, but with all the condition removal not really worth it.

Edit:> Forgot to add, fire shield is actually a fire aura, so it would add swiftness and fury each time you used a signet.

Burst and ele, in the same sentence.
I suspose I can admit there are some good burst eles, but not many.

Most thieves are noobie, on the opposite side there are very good thief players. If you are a DD ele there is an easy way to tell: damage him a bit, wait till stealth, switch to earth, use earthquake then churning, switch to air and apply shocking aura. If its a good play they will wait for both to go away before attacking, a noob will be unstealth dead somewhere near you.

Burst builds are mostly in spvp, try tourney and you’ll be complaining about everyone using invulnerable builds and how the roster is mostly guardians

Had this issue at one of the points, cant remember which, it was either waterfall or mansion. Had been teamed against my friend for the 100 000 000th time and couldn’t team change so I was just fighting him at the point, then lost over half my health and was face planted into the ground.
I was like “wth just hit me”
He replied “treb”
And I said “your treb is dead and there was no warning”

Attunement dancing, that is, swapping attunements fast to get full benefit. This is not like the other classes, you cant stay in 1 element or you will fall.

Having a good amount of protection buff up. And putting vitality / toughness in your gear. Gearing toward damage requires a good deal of skill and knowing all the abilities first.

Start by fighting 1 or 2 less mobs then you are used to as well. Don’t play like a warrior, think of yourself as a sheet of glass.

Frost bow is good to take, not to use as a main weapon, the cds are way to long and you will die.

Flame axe 5 is 15 sec burn, good to carry, apply super burn then drop, again cds to long. The only one with cds in a nice place that I have found is the greatsword, also an elite

I would consider removing it from your build unless you use it to get a guaranteed crit on one of your big hitters. Its currently badly bugged and doesn’t give 5x crits, sometimes only 1 (fiery great sword 5 for e.g.). It also doesn’t work with the arcane 30 point talent (gain effects on arcane use depending on which element your in), and the auto one @ 75% hp is even worse, 5sec usually only works on 1 hit.

Signet of lighting is something you could take in its place, instance cast blind as well as some (not much) precision. If you could spare 10 points from air you could also drop into fire aura on signet use and then have access to 4 more auras. I would love that talent if it was gain an aura based on the element of the signet instead of crappy fire aura (e.g. earth sig magnetic aura, fire sig fire aura, etc). Another nice option would be sig of earth, bad passive, nice active. Activate that then churning earth to your hearts content.

Also look at some of the conjures (I’m lying, look only at the frost bow).

Frost bow 5 is a freeze that I don’t think can be escaped by your self (stun breaks) unless your using instant cast aoes (such as cleansing fire) as it must be broken or wait its duration (have to do more testing against stun break). Doesn’t work on stability. Good for finishing off a healer type.

Frost bow 4 is an aoe with a small cast, switching attunement just before the end of the cast will give you 2 sec of fury buffing the damage of the skill. Also covers a decent distance.

Frost bow 3 is an aoe chill, use this at point blank after attunement swapping for some nice damage and a big chill (I like to teleport at them the use this)

Frost bow 2 is alright, a channeled similar to rangers rapid fire skill.

Frost bow 1 = useless 15 heal not effected by healing power

I usually use just 5 and drop or 5 4 3 sometimes 2 then drop. Then I count out the cd on deep freeze and pick it up again to deep freeze again.

The new changes give frost bow healing power and condition duration I think. This only works on the bow summoned, the one picked up off the ground will not apply these bonuses. The frost bow healing power is useless unless you using it to boost your heal or regens a bit (it does not effect bow 1 heal skill)

I love my frost bow, there’s a nice little quirk to using it that I wont mention but you may figure it out if you give it a chop (hint it involves 2 people and 2x frost bow 5s)

There some other quirks with the other conjures, such as 15 sec burn on the flame axe 5. Almost useless in pvp (duration that is)

VS Mesmer: Turn off mob names in options, Turn on enemy player names. When engaging the mesmer, if he forces target drop and you have auto target on you will auto target his clone. Deselect target (double click ground) and look around, the clones (being mobs) will not have names, an the real mesmer will.

D.D bunker eles: Most dd eles are immune to conditions (mine currently is not). Each regen applied they get will remove a condition and each cantrip they use gives them regen. A class that can convert conditions or strip boons will be effective here (necro). A class that stacks conditions my have some trouble (ranger). If your heart is set on conditions then try to mask the one you want with one thats more nastie. E.G. If you want to stack bleeding and have access to chill, stack your bleeds, then chill to cover and the chill will be removed first. If you want to stack chill, start with chill then bleed.

Eles strength comes from constant regen, high uptime on protection and the water heals. When you see the water bubble effect, if you foe is low on life he will get a free heal just from the switch. This is when you want to try and use your ccs, or use your chill/poison (covered as mention previous and before he can get off any of his heals) as chill/poison will decrease his heal potential by a great deal. If your ccs are on cd at this point you now have 9 seconds to kill him before he can heal gain. If you see him trying his healing skill you must interrupt it but many use the signet for passive heal and only use it in absolutely necessary times.

Glass cannons: glass canon ele, just /lol
Glass cannon warrior, dodge his bulls charge, or use an immediate stun break after being hit or you will be in a world of hurt. Pure glass cannon gs warriors that are bad or trying stuff out will rush you whenever they can to get their kill. More experiences ones will wait till you are occupied or attack when you are unaware (facing away from them). Watch out for the dreaded hammer gs combo, as the hammer has many good skills to set you up for HB combo. Hammer has a draw back though and that is that the attacks are easy to predict and then dodge / move out of the way due to the slowness of the weapon.

Glass cannon thieves: Always move, pay good attention to your health, if you see it move and no enemies are around its probably a thief, now is the time to use your stun break. You don’t want to not use your stun break unless your are certain that you have not been turned to stone. If you make that mistake you will be sorry. Once you have stunbreaked (or sure your not stone) use an about face key (don’t hold right click or you wont turn) or quickly turn your self away from the thief and start attacking (auto attacks are good to get some damage in before they appear).

Stealth: the stealth mechanic claims many lives, remember you can freely attack your foe while he is invisible. Stunned a ranger and it disappeared? He is still there, still stunned, auto attack him or use your other skills if you are confident (try not to use projectiles, melee is a much safer option).
Thief disappeared?, if he is good he has assessed the situation and probably fled. If he is bad he will still be around, usually within churning earth range and for some reason will be hit by it. Again smash your auto attacks on his last know positions and move sporadically to save your but from a back stab.

Heart seeker, thief using heart seeker spam? immobilise > chill > cripple. Any of those effects will hold him back, cripple and freeze will remove the length of his auto latch skill and immobilise will make it useless allowing you to use your escape moves.

I like it, great in Air for moving about. i have a chance on crit to cause Burning, Vul and Chill to enemies while giivng myself Might and my Crit chance without boons is like 56% roughly so it can happen quite often.

I tend to run with this rotation

Static Aura (Fury) then into RTL and then Updraft and LT i follow that by going into Fire and Popping Arcane Power and start with Burning Speed and SoF to make sure they are burning before going into Fire Grab

Kills some, doesnt kill others. Not amazing burst as some people have but its a build i made for my play style and i enjoy it – play it in all aspects of the game PvE, S/TPvp and WvW

Not telling you how to play your build, just some suggestions. If you switch to fire during updraft then sig of fire then flame blast you may be able to hit them before they recover. Walking over to them and lightning touch seems to be a waist of time, and time is valuable in this game.

Conversely, if you were to updraft then RTL then LT, it would be a much better combo as you are not wasting time getting to your -p-r-e-y- I mean target (cough). You can also speed up your combo a bit by replacing sig of fire with cleansing fire (however the cd is much longer) but I assume you are going for full precision as with the written in stone.

I’m running a variation of this build now, changed out one of the cantrips for frost bow, giving it a run (using cleansing fire and lightning flash for the shorter cds). I also have 15 air (lighting bolt on air switch explained below and 25 water for 2% damage per boon).

Me and another ele run together, I drop bow, bow 5 for ice block, bow 4 them then bow3 at point blank, as the ice ends my friend picks up the second and deep freezes his face into his 16 second burn combo.

Frost bow is also useful for 3 then 4 then 5 then drop into churning earth. And the aoe 4 is great for bursting thieves by standing in the middle of the storm.

Frost bow again is useful for point control, as a guard walks at you start 5 out of range (but in range if you were to teleport) teleport to him (damage pops his aegis) and the bow fires, freezing his face, then bow 3 at point blank, then start your normal keep them out of the ring combo (earth 4, 3, air 5).

Switching attunements still works with the conjures, that’s your might stacking on change (not as well as blast finisher but still ok) and fury from swap. So normally 5, switch, 4, teleport if to far away, switch, 3 for 20% extra crit chance and 3 more might (6 of lucky).

The extra 5 points into air is for this as well, switch to air, gain fury might and lighting them for 1k. I’ve been trying this out, while the extra damage is good, I find that the condition removal is better. However, if you aren’t fighting a necro or condition x, the lighting bolt can be a life saver, also removes aegis, so you can switch then updraft an approaching guardian.

Another good combo I have found is cleansing fire during flame grab if they have condition removed your burning or if you have been too lazy to apply it in the first place. This will boost up your damage but leave you vulnerable to stuns and conditions down the road.

I also like, churning earth teleport into cleansing fire on arrival, switch to fire flame blast for an ultra damage combo leaving you completely defenseless if it fails, but gaining the high ground if it does land.

Was also playing around with arcane 30 points that gives makes your arcane skills do things when in an element in place of evasive. So basically updraft, magnetic grasp, earthquake then churning earth and just as they get up arcane bolt / wave for immobilise. These synergies well as churning earth is in earth, and earth is the imob

The down stat was on a wave spawn, it meant that high end teams would keep you on the ground till the spawn wave poped, then kill you for full rez duration.

How do you counter D/D elementalist?

I like binding roots, at times, use a cantrip, and bye, just don’t walk to the roots again or you’ll be stuck again. If you use burning speed in binding roots and you have a silly ranger standing in it then he will be hit for silly damage. The thing I hate about binding roots is that you cant hit them half the time.

Shocking aura is countered by ranged attacks, even at point blank I have never noticed a ranged attack get stunned by it.

When an ele is in water he has 2 – 3x regen stacks (signet + soothing mists+ regen) making his attacks heal him ridiculously. Also water 5 (long cd) and water 2 (relatively short). Dps him to half health, wait till you see the blue blast come off him, the the cone of cold, then the 2nd blue blast, once he changes again burst him to the ground, and apply poison if possible when he is low. Don’t start with your burst unless it is a quick recovery to do it again.

Stomping from stealth...

Stomping from stealth is the only one I don’t like, don’t really care for the others (stability, invulnerable, blind). With the others I know if I’m gonna get stomped and whether to use my escape / interrupt / just die. With the stealth mechanic I just pop my escape at the moment I think a stealth downed is coming, or try to get a lucky interrupt on it. The problem is you can only attack a target or directly forward, so you can’t even attack backward where the thief is most likely hiding.

RTL is sorta fixed, if it doesn’t track the play you just go full distance away, thats what I have noticed anyway. Still much better.

Also as far as I can tell, I get fury and swiftness (air trait, auras give fury + swiftness) from MG + Fire field, but no fire shield.

4x glass cannon eles in x/D. 1x super tanky / invisible mesmer. Mesmer places portal between the 4 eles and the enemy zerg.
Eles start with churning earth, then use the portal into the enemies zerg.

Some skills are bugged and the cast time is longer then listed (see glyph of resing people).

“Generally” skills with no cast times are instant and can be cast during other animations. Some of these skills can be used and not interrupt the previous animation.
E.G. Scepter Air 2 and 3, any of the auras (afaik frost and lightning defiantly), all arcane utilities, all cantrips (mist form breaks some animations, but allows you to use utilities), scepter earth 2 part 2 (not the casting of the armour skill, but the launching of it).

Some skills do not follow this, e.g. updraft, ride the lightning. Instead they are instant cast with no start up animation but I think they can’t be cast during other spells (I generally save these 2 skills and have never really tried to use them during another skill, if the do fire off during another skill the skill will be interrupted).

Signet of air is a weird one, sometimes I can use whenever and not interrupt (e.g. using it to cover churning earth) but sometimes is does interrupt my skills.

Channel skills usually last as long as the cast time lists, not sure if animation start up is included in cast time.

Some skills have a primary effect animation, then a secondary that is not counted as cast time for e.g. magnetic grasp throws a hand and then (when it hits) it pulls you to your foe + pull time which isn’t listed.

MG has weird timing issues, it is a projectile first, that goes a set range then pulls you to your foe. The weird this is, unlike leaps, if you are chilled or crippled it will pull you full duration very slowly, making you vulnerable to attack. The pull effect will eventually wear out (has a channel bar that slowly fills, can be seen how long it will pull for on larger mobs with bad hit boxes as you will be “locked in” for that duration).
