Scarlet isn't going to attack Lions Arch...

in The Edge of the Mists

Talonblaze.3175

Lion’s Arch is just a distraction I think. Given that Scarlet has been a genius and has always said she’s been several steps ahead of the characters leads me to believe that LA is the bait she wants. She will make a sizable effort into making it seem threatened, but aside from destroying a few Asura gates there is no reason for her to attack LA save for the speculation of the thumper in the water.

I do remember in one of her spots that the Order’s headquarters were also a notable target. If she is bent on destroying everyone and everything, she would target the real threat posed to her. Destroying the headquarters of the Vigil, Priory and Whispers would leave her with very little contention in terms of tech, forces and travel. This would cripple any allies we might have to aid us and any other cities in a heavy sweep. If she is being controlled by a dragon, this only makes more sense given that the fall of Zhaitan would provoke such a measure.
The benefit of her distraction is that if she succeeded in destroying LA as well, it would cause massive havoc for all races given there would be no way to gain reinforcements for areas readily and with the gates and orders destroyed, it would leave any of the remaining factions too spread out to counter anything thrown at them.

I honestly think Scarlet is aiming to destroy the pacts whilst at the same time uncovering something deep below. She has the firepower, the technology and the numbers.

Chest Looting Issue; Wallet Currency

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Talonblaze.3175

I’m sure I’m not the only one who has had this, but its been a recurring and annoying issue and has caused some notable frustrations trying to get something I earned and not being able to retrieve it. I’ll try and do a video on it if its really required though. The most common places for the issues in this regard are Fractals (for relics) and WvW (for badges).

Upon completing an event or path, everyone is presented with the big golden chest for them to loot in game like the dragon chests for world bosses. As per normal, you are rewarded with your random loot and gear as well as Relics/WvW badges in the respective areas.
However, when I hit F (Use) again, everything BUT the currency adds to my character. It will be the only thing remaining in the list to loot. Despite frantically hitting F again and walking around the chest like a wandering loon, the chest usually does not yield the token/currency. Which gets quite frustrating when it adds up to how many tokens I COULD have had over the past few months. Dismissing it hoping for it to be fixed next patch or such.
Even clicking on the currency doesn’t help me. When I click it instead of pressing F, it simply disappears from the list (although it will still show a blank list) but not add to my wallet. If I close the loot window and interact with the chest again, it will show up again as if it was never looted.
I even tried using the AOE loot function to no avail.

I run the game at a great framerate and never had any technical, graphical or other issues besides this. It’s quite bothersome as my recent experience that caused me to FINALLY write this was doing the new EotM map, taking out a lord and gettign the chest, being presented with 14 BoH (which is quite a fair bit to drop at once for me) and do the whole ring around the rosey thing like an idiot as I fail to collect it.

I’m not sure what else to try at this point. Even repairing the game doesn’t fix it.

You seem to forget that Zerker gear isn’t exclusive to just Warriors, in fact, some classes have to take Zerker gear just to be efficient or on par with Warriors, lowering them makes em even squishier than others. Warriors would be the least hurt by that change.

It would seem to me, that warriors like beating on things above all else, so I would suggest an active that helps him to do this. The warrior then sacrifices some of his sustain for more damage to foes. This is very much in line with the warrior tradition. I would therefore suggest an offensive boon such as might or quickness, the ability to cause torment on the next attack(s), or even a full adrenaline bar be the reward for pushing that button.

I pondered a few of those as well, but I feel the amount of Might Warriors get is a bit ridiculous, but its a start I suppose.
Quickness might be useful, but Anet has done to make sure that the boon isn’t so easily accessed without some notable drawback. Frenzy goes to show this.
As for the full adrenaline, sadly I would have to say that begins to be too close into what Surge already does. Perhaps instead of adrenaline, maybe Burst Recharge?

Talonblaze.3175

Why does it need to be buffed at all? afterall, its a 8% nerf and Warriors will refuse to use it unless it is insanely overpowered with a short cool down anyway…

8% isn’t all that much tbh. Still makes it better than the pre-buff state. I’ll still be using it in PvE and WvW since it suits my style and build. PvP is a different ball game though, never felt HS was that strong there. The Signet doesn’t need to be buffed per se, but it needs to become useful.

To be honest I think the active should be crappy with such a good passive.

I don’t get why the devs want to buff the active and nerf the passive when the whole point of the skill is the passive and you only use the active when you’re outplayed, and 3/4 of the time it doesn’t save you, even in PvE with the stupid mob AI.

I like my idea of having it do an AoE heal because it doesn’t increase warrior sustain, it only increase warrior support. So if you see a teammate dying you could sacrifice your signet passive to give him a little buff in health. And then increase the cooldown to like 30 or 40 seconds because using the signet should be a big deal and have consequences.

They seem to be wanting to steer away from complete passive play. Which the HS promotes the most. There’s almost no reason to ever activate it either compared to the other Signets in the game which have -some- use. Even if most are situational. The mindset seemed to be that passive was okay, but there should be other uses to a skill, which HS has none.
Many of the argument seems to be the ‘risk vs reward’ argument. There’s no risk in the passive healing being so good to never want it off and most would agree activating it isn’t a reward, its usually just crippling. They want there to be some risk to activating it (losing the passive buff) for a reward worth using.

[Warrior] Healing Signet Active Ideas

Talonblaze.3175

Yeah I meant the buff.

Warriors have no access to protection. They make up for it with higher health and better regens. That’s how it works.

OP wants to make Healing Signet’s active gives them protection, which doesn’t work with that design.

Was merely a suggestion, currently there is very little alternatives to making the active all that great and figured a slight reduction in damage briefly with a passive heal nulled for recharge would be decent. Alternatively I was thinking a regen boon, but I felt that would be rather redundant.
Stability would have been a bit too strong as well.

No protection? Blocks and Invuls dont count to you as protection? Lets not forget that Healing Signet continues to heal while they are immune and they can continue to deal damage or run…

[Warrior] Healing Signet Active Ideas

Talonblaze.3175

The biggest problem is the passive is also too strong. The cool down is rather low as well so so if you make the Active much stronger then the cool down needs to be increased as well. A measly 8% nerf to the Passive doesnt warrant any changes to the active. I am going to guess though that the Active will be buffed for around 20-25%

If the active was reworked to include something more useful, a redo of the cooldown would likely be required, I do agree.

However, I was a HS warrior pre-buff and was pretty much the only one who ever used it. I won’t deny that in the right circumstances the current HS can make some fights rather trivial, but thats mostly against non-condition/burst classes. If it scaled better with healing power, I would have agreed a base nerf to the passive would be acceptable again. Would give more reason (and synergy) to using the Defense traitline.

But them just buffing the active heal amount won’t make it more appealing. The sustain of the passive is its perk. The unique part of HS is that its different from Surge.

[Warrior] Healing Signet Active Ideas

in Profession Balance

Talonblaze.3175

So, the main issue with HS is mostly people complaining about it’s passive play, the unfortunate side effect is, the active isn’t worth using. So, here are a few ideas to making it perhaps more ideal and useful in play to be activated. Mostly just brainstorming of course with different possible ideas in which the signet could be used.

1 – Defensive Use
Upon activation HS heals for a small amount and grants Protection for X seconds, the added effect for this would be that HS would also be a Stun Breaker. Which would make it fairly unique for a heal skill for this fact.

2 – Offensive Use
Upon activation HS heals for a small amount and recharges all Physical utility skills.
Nothing too fancy, but it would encourage the use of some of the other less used utilities.

3 – Party Use
No solid ideas at this time, but been thinking it having a small active effect that also aid’s party members might be also idea, either through boons or abilities that would compliment Warriors that like party wide buffs.

These were mainly my ideas for making the active more effective and worth using to some degree by numerous or a few builds over the current ‘I accidentally hit 6 by mistake’ activation of the Signet.
Not sure if they are great or trash ideas, but I figure I’d put out my $0.02.

The only reason anyone not interested in WvW or PvP would que up is because of the rewards and achievements. If they didn’t care to try it before, why would they now otherwise?

Let’s do a little math.

The molten pick costs 800 gems old version but 1000 normally.

The sprocket 1000 gems.

That 0 gem difference you did not pay would have cost around 0g.

In order to make this 0g up, at the current price of sprockets (43c), it would take 0 sprockets.

Picks are 1000 gems. L2gemshop.

That and they didn’t take into account the bone pick either, which was always 1000.

This is not pay to win, not even remotely close to it. The only people arguing it is are the ones that had to change the definition of pay to win, creating a straw man argument which they then can attack. Pay to win shops allow you to purchase an advantage against other players in a PvP environment that they cannot get otherwise, that’s the original and real definition. Redefining the phrase and then arguing against your redefinition is dishonest at best. I’ve played a few games that had actual pay to win. If anyone thinks this is pay to win, they need to get out more.

Where is your citation that it is only PvP? If a game allows you to get all the best gear, unlocks and so on by paying a fee, that’s pay to win. This can be done in any game, be it single or multiplayer environments. The only difference is the impact it has. Most don’t care in a single player environment as it doesn’t adversely affect any other player with it.
However, in the case of this tool, it affects quite alot of people. Add on to the fact that this will be a limited material once the event is over to those who only grind the event for the time gated node. That is used for a variety of useful items for various classes and even a gearset.
WvW is affected right there, your PvP aspect that you needed if any.

But addon to the fact that also players who start off on equal footing, a player who has this pick can either gain an added monetary bonus for selling off the sprockets or a distinct bonus of acquiring a soon-to-be time gated material (and those without the node are even worse off).
Taking either route, the monetary one would allow them to buy things they need or want faster than the other and if they choose the other they have access to a limited or exclusive set of items the other will be lacking which could make a difference in performance, which could adversely affect leaderboards.

Farming mithril and copper… things that are oversaturated will now, in turn, provide even more of an oversaturated material? A single Marionette event provides, in success, 5000+ sprockets in 15 minutes. The pick is, in the mean time, completely worthless in providing you with ore of value and, therein, self-defeating in its purpose of being “convenience”.

I paid 800 gems for my pick. All early adopters, in fact, paid 800 gems. Not to mention that early adopters also gained the fastest tool in the game: Consortium Sickle.

This pick is 1000 gems and robs me of a portion of my ore for an item that self-deflates in value because of this pick.

For the event as is now, yes. But despite the Scarlet events and everything prior the sprockets still have a decent sell value even still. Coupled with the fact that the sprockets are used in a few recipes that take up a fair chunk. All new Zealot gear requires at least 500 per piece. Also unlike mithril or copper, it can’t be salvaged. So the only source after the event is over will be the time gated nodes from the meta or from this pick.

Also, early adopters of the Molten pick paid 800, the other picks cost 1000 after that iirc, like the bone pick. This also doesn’t mean that the other harvesting tools won’t follow the same pattern either.

Thing is, it was never advertised. The gem store hover over just shows the basic ‘used to mine all metal types’. Makes no mention of the sprockets bonus in game.

It also doesn’t mention that it replaces your bonus ore with a sprocket, making it strictly inferior.

Not sure if that is fully confirmed, but it depends on its general use. Mining mithril or copper for instance, would bring in more profit via sprockets I think. But if that fact is indeed true, nodes like Gold, Iron and Ori are best left to other picks indeed.

adding bonuses to the other infinite picks is an acceptable alternative, though far from the best idea (removing bonuses).
just ahead of that idea is your idea; with the sockets to add boosts to any tool (when added to temporary tools, you get it back when the tool breaks). It meshes well with all other items.

actually, this is a very good point.
the majority of players don’t read game release notes or the forums, so they would have no idea that this pick gives extra sprockets. They are not buying this pick for the bonus, they are buying it for the looks / have a complete set / etc.

The additional problem is, its also false advertising. The lack of such information makes people think ‘oh its just like all the others, no biggy’ despite there being an unwritten bonus. The fact this had to be mined and tested for such is a problem on Anet’s behalf.
They can say its a bug, given its the lack of description and remove said feature or they will add it to the description and still deal with the many not happy previous customers that will think twice about purchasing gems.

I wouldn’t have had a problem with this mining pick having the ability it does if it weren’t for one thing;

Sprockets at the moment are the only material used to make the new stat combo Zealot.

This is why it now becomes rather unfair, especially compared to the other mining picks that were bought at the same price previously. This gives people an edge over those who grinded the meta event or the previous Scarlet events to earn those sprokets. Having to not put any effort into obtaining these other than spending a bit of coin.

That’s where I think it’s not cool. Especially given the fact that these can be harvested from ANY node. Increasing the potential output gained from sprockets for these picks to an incredible amount if they so desired.

There’s also no telling how much more valuable sprockets will become in the future.

I have a heavy interest in Steam Creatures and even I cant answer any of these questions. The Steam Creatures are one big mystery. The way everything looks to me now is that all forces Scarlet sends with her invasions come from the Steam Realm. They have a connection to Scarlet. Calling it now. I also think they arent created by the Asura character in the personal story. That quest doesnt explain anything apart from that the beings are from the future. There is absolutely no explaination why they are present in Lornar“s Pass on the frozen lake. The Priory is interested in them and the Creatures attack the camps they have because they seem to be looking for something. My guess would be that it is something beneath the Frozen Lake, yet undescovered.

Perhaps that’s what these shielded machines are doing? Possibly something related to whats down in the core? A lake can be pretty deep and there’s no telling how deep that one is either. Scarlet might just be speeding up the process since the Steam critters don’t seem to be very effective.

The upcoming patch is also located in the snowy hilltops. I don’t think it’s mere coincidence that it was the place of choice for her little ringlet shown in the preview.

But… Might be a bit too much forethought.

I’d rather not be booted from overflow to overflow on my server, in TWO locations and not have any viable chance to be doing anything else without it being a complete washout.

So I’m hoping they will be introducing other methods of completing this meta without the time specific overflow heavy content again. Or at least something to add to it that would be a nice addition for those who might not participate in the event.

Especially since, if I recalled correctly, these patches would last longer. Meaning that it would be quite a while before seeing any new significant changes or the next LS, which might be much of the same.

Maybe I’m just pessimistic, but its really something I’m fairly concerned about with this patch.

This is a neat idea! Though granted, I think such a project would be easier if we had a 1st person cam, that way we could take stunning pictures without a character always in the way. XD

Sold it to a merchant or on the TP?

What skin was it? if it was the hellfire or radiant pieces, you can find those in your achievements tab. Otherwise you might be SOL if you can’t recover it.

I don’t think you can call her a Mary Sue with a straight face, since you spend so much time pointing out her flaws. I mean, even if you have to invent them. I mean, if anyone is a Mary Sue it’d have to be Evon.

A charr who abruptly has in his history how he kept Lion’s Arch safe, somehow managed to create and control the biggest merchant guild across Tyria (bigger and more efficient at banking than the Xunlai too), and if we take your words for it, is a graceful loser . . . while coming from a race whose response to humanity settling in a place is to literally run a scorched earth campaign across all of the civilized world.

-I- am pointing out her flaws, but apparently I’m wrong according to others. Hence why I said ‘OR’. Either I’m right and she is more than she appears, or she’s the flawless goody-two-shoes everyone seems to see.

Evon is far from a graceful loser, his dislike for Kiel is noted in more ways than one. He may be a successful businessman, but he didn’t get to such without cutting a few throats and other likely unpleasant things. Even going against his own legion to do so. (Which is VERY un-Charrlike) Not to mention its obvious his care for money is obvious. Not hard to find out what his motives and wants are. The only reason he bothered with LA was due to its potential for himself, not because ‘he wanted to help people’.

I was a bit surprised to find out they were the permanent versions as well. Unfortunately this was AFTER they disappeared. I had no interest in the overpriced temporary one, but the perm one had my attention. =/

Well, if we go about making up stuff about how she is a thief, a murderer, and a liar . . . of course it affects her morality.

I’d like to note, we have already seen a fair bit of Kiel before the election started. It’s pretty clear she does care about people, and does try to do the best thing for everyone involved and not just those in power. Consider the fate of the Consortium contracts . . .

Never called her a murderer. However if it helped further her goals (or her puppet string puller Magnus), I wouldn’t doubt she’d pull a Consortium records again.

And what’s her motive in all this? So far it seems she has nothing, wants nothing and couldn’t be any more flawless of a good guy. She makes Destiny’s Edge seem paltry in comparison. So either she’s the biggest Mary Sue as can be, or she’s clearly got her own agenda.

I just think it’s funny Talonblaze is accusing Kiel of things that he cannot prove in any way. I don’t know what country you’re from but over here it’s “Innocent until proven guilty”, but you seem to be from Planet Bizarro or something since you think the exact opposite.

Your very Kiel doesn’t seem to take that method of belief into account when she tried to detain Dessa in the fractals, just for her association for the Consortium (who no longer have done anything wrong), in a place she has no authority either.

Explain to me what reason Kiel had for trying to put Dessa in a cell next to Mia? Especially when Dessa had ever been so cooperative helping her research the Fractal (HHMMMM how DID Kiel fund that research btw? She’s not a businessman and I doubt an Ex-Lionguard like her managed to save up for this special occasion.)
