Mesmers were always pretty decent at surviving imo. But their lack of regeneration was always my bane, especially since their active heals were rather weak imo. However, if what I see is true, its going to be a very powerful heal for most builds.
One thing you guys haven’t taken into note is PvP.
Everything is exotic quality there. Engies and other classes having ascended damage would unbalance things too much.
- Can we give any useful meaning to laurels for players that accumulate them but only focus on the pvp aspect of the game?
There is nothing pvp-worthy that can be done with them. Could there be a way to give meaning to do these pvp dailies and be a system that combines acquiring laurels and using them as a currency for pvp specific rewards?
This is actually something I’d like to see as well, especially considering both Monthly and Daily give them. Could be many things in that regard since Glory is being removed.
Easy way to kill the train and yet at the same time keep the difficulty of group event level?
Elites.
Done. Champs should be few and far between, but rewarding. Low level areas shouldn’t have very many.
New skills being added to the game will be unlockable via skill points. This also applies to new utilities and elites. For PvP specifically, this means you’ll need to purchase Tomes of Knowledge to level up your character and unlock skill points.
Curious, does this mean the Tomes will be available even after the Glory change?
Secondly, would Scrolls of Knowledge also work if used say from PvE? I’m just wondering if its Skill Points universally that are a factor in obtaining these.
Would you keep rank acquisition the same as it is now?
If not, what would you do to improve rank acquisition?
I do agree that Rank should feel like more of an achievement, yet at the same time obtainable for most. Rank could instead be based on WINS, encouraging people to actively participate and play for their team.
This would eliminate complaints around it merely being a ‘grind with no skill’ into something that does merit some prestige. A player who wins alot, is usually an indication of some form of skill.
Of course there will always be a few free-riders, but they won’t be as high up as those who actively help their team to win. This would also discourage AFK’ers.
However, I do want to see finishers and such more obtainable due to this method since it can be difficult even for casuals, but still possible.
Perhaps even Tourney matches or the like could be worth more than regular hotjoin ones to encourage more serious play. Obviously this is just an idea.
EDIT: Custom Arenas in this fashion I think would excluded being counted. Just to prevent some notable abuse.

As a guy who is barely getting out of dolyak, should I give up on my dream of having those finishers now that they are gone?
Thats sad, I dont think I can farm all the glory I need even if I were to start playing now nonstop :’(
Yes, give up.
Unless you plan on being #1 on the upcoming leaderboards.
Sadly, she doesn’t seem to inspire many jokes compared to the almighty Trahearne. When you are that bad to not get much of a chuckle from anything, there’s problems. =/
Updated Reward System
With gear unification we will also introduce a system that allows players to set goals for rewards in PvP and work towards them. We are not ready to discuss this system in detail yet, as it is still being developed, but more information will come as we get closer to being able to release this system.Once this new system is in place, glory will be retired as a currency, and gold will be the standard currency across the game. All existing glory vendors will be removed at this time. We will give advance warning when this is coming so you can spend all of your existing glory before that happens.
That’s the part you should keep in mind.
If I understand what people are saying, and I may be wrong, many people are treating ranks as more of a lifetime achievement. That is certainly something to consider in regards to the future reward system replacing them.
This is also something you should keep in mind. You are making this “players set goals for rewards” idea, yet you are stripping away that very thing. It may not be the epitome of what PvP stands for, but its still an encouraging factor, especially for a casual like me.
Not to mention, I can almost bet that like the direction WvW is going, Seasons/Leaderboards are really going to be the only way to attain any goals. You are moving away from the casual side of PvP. Which would have been fine if it was never introduced in the first place.
What incentive could you possibly provide a casual player like myself that I couldn’t get out of PvE or WvW? It’s definitely not gold or any other currency. I can almost guarantee it won’t be skins as those will be saved for stuff like LB’s. Finishers was really the only unique thing PvP provided that imo was neat and able to be worked towards and for a casual like myself, is now a pipe dream.
I would very much like to know what casuals can aim for in terms of goals, or should we really just quit while we’re ahead?
This new system so far has destroyed it in my eyes. I may not be the most skilled player, but I try. But trying doesn’t seem to get you very far in LB. You either make it, or you don’t. Not something I enjoy investing in.
Rank progression will be removed, but the rank you have at that time will stay!
its not deleting anyone progress, its actually gives prestige. Vets vs Newer players.
I don’t want my current rank. I want the one that gives me the finisher that I was aiming for. A new title or some other BS replacement isn’t going to cut it. I don’t want prestige.
It’s not deleting progress, but its barring it. Anyone who wasn’t lucky enough to get there, well, it might as well have been deleted because it was otherwise pointless.
They plan on adding different versions of those finishers in the new ladder system they wish to implement.
Hmm i dint quite get that by reading the dev post, do you have a source?
It’s true, they do plan to do this. But there’s no info on whether these finishers are temporary (as in, only usable while you stay on top) or are ‘Season’ based much like WvW will be.
Either way, unless you plan to become the best of the best, you won’t be seeing anything anytime soon.
The problem with the hallucination thing is that apparently -everyone- can see the same thing. Hallucinations spawned by others suddenly hurt you despite not being harmed by toxic.
None of the other characters react any indifferently to who is presented that could be a potential ally. The chances of someone hallucinating someone they never met before yet know them down perfectly in personality, extremely unlikely.
Are people seriously QQ’ing over the loss of ranks? You will get a new fancy title once they do remove it, and you will be represented by your division in the ladder (teamQ/soloQ) instead of showing “rank”. Why on tyria would you want them to keep the same grindy purple bar that either shows off how often you farmed/how often you played the game. Sure I won’t get to say “Hey guys, I’m rank 51”, but who in their right mind thinks “ranks” are respectable anyways.
Now I’ll have goals to stride for. Like moving up in divisions, gettin’ dat cash money and showing off any sweg I earn.
To be honest, I only did PvP for the finishers. It being grindy, yet still an attainable goal was the only reason I even bothered to spend more than 5 minutes there.
The leaderboards are of no significance to me simply because I have no desire to be thrashed upon for rewards I will possibly never get no matter how hard I try. I’m not skilled nor hardcore. I enjoy a good game when it happens, but I also like aiming towards a goal more that I enjoy.
I didn’t care about rank, I cared about what I got out of my effort.
To me, PvP is just a more cost efficient transport to LA again.
So… Basically my only incentive for PvP is dead… I was looking forward to getting the epic Dragon finisher at some point for me to enjoy seeing across WvW, PvE and PvP… Guess that idea is shattered now.
There’s nothing left PvP can offer me now.
I think a pool of instabilities depending on certain levels would prevent people from simply re-rolling to get easier ones. But I do like that idea alot more.
I found it was a cheaper alternative to getting some nice 20 slot bags amongst other things that cost quite a bit of coin.
How much is the current ratio as is?
I’m waiting for the curveball one day where they create a LS arc and everything that would normally point to Scarlet ends up being some random dude.
“Yeah, for once it wasn’t actually me. Have fun, Later tater.”
The most interesting part of all of this is that neither Jennah, Logan, nor Annise bats an eye at this huge biological weapon which is poisoning everything in a 50-mile radius and is also apparently reproducing itself, even across space and time in the Mists.
…….when its right on the doorstep of Divinity’s Reach.
Especially Logan: leaves the rest of Destiny’s Edge to fight an Elder Dragon and gets Snaff killed over saving Jennah, doesn’t give a kitten about a massive weapon that’s going to poison the whole if Kryta.
It is indeed surprising why there isn’t many Seraph squads patrolling or culling this infestation asap. Heck, even the Orders seemed to have reacted faster and they are far from Kessex hills in terms of operation, not to mention busy with you know… Trying to fight back the dragons?
Which does bring up an interesting thing… Why ARE the Orders here if there’s no dragon minion presence?
All the Captains hang out in that bar….Crow’s Nest, I think it is.
Indeed, doesn’t look like she’s doing much there though. ;p
But where is Kiel?
Busy with politics in LA.
“Politics” Riiiight. XD
So far her biggest decision here seems to be if she’s going to have another beer. Why else would she always be at the bar?
It’s quite likely, however I wouldn’t be surprised if they changed how it was obtained.
Personally, I’ve already obtained the handy little sigil so its not a big deal. But I wouldn’t mind more~
I’m not really taking a side as to whether or not it is, or isn’t happening. But the possibilities of it happening are pretty notable.
Word of mouth, as many have noted is one of the more susceptible issues for those play testing.
However, I feel many forget how much data-mining goes around in this game. Chances are there’s likely been numerous game file hints to also lead to people learning things before others and taking advantage of it. Heck, likely even a bit more in detail than even the play testers get to know of.
These are merely possibilities of course, but I don’t consider it a far stretch.
omg, when I found out Scarlet was connected AGAIN I officially gave up on the lore..
You honestly expected different? Come now, the LS has been one thing so far; Predictable.
Or… She’ll just continue to rehash everything with something else. Pull an Inquest most likely and eventually begin combining things with dragon influence.
Dredge Destroyers?
Centaur Courts?
Branded Bandits (yeah, we already have humans, but this time with GUNS! =D)
This list could go on…
Yeah… I wouldn’t count out of these mixes running out anytime soon.
I personally like the touch of the down states. Gives more tactical feeling when you are with a small group with large enemies to make sure to finish them off before they rally.
Not to mention I get to see the nice finishers that come with it.
Small things like this unify the game a bit more. Allowing players even focused in different modes such as PVE and such to still get a bit of experience and play in others without being totally lost.
I find its better than people lazily holding down the 1 button all day.
The bloody prince costume looks pretty good imo, even on Charr (big surprise! =D) so I am glad that the costumes look as good as they do for the season.
However, I am slightly disappointed stuff like the Bloody Prince costume and Executioner Outfit don’t have PvE item equivilants for armor. Would ahve been awesome to wear those as a set or even just partial ones that are notable improvements. (Such as the Prince’s Makeup being 100x better than the Wraith mask for Necros.)
Would have been an instant buy if it had such an option. =/ Still, I hope these remain for future Halloweens to come, seeing that they are good sets. =3
Had you not switched zones, it would have been in the Buy Back menu. Unfortunately it disappears when you do change.
To avoid this, it would be wise to invest in special bags or making sure to pay more attention when selling rares or above.
I find the rifle mostly shines in large enemy groups when traited. Being able to line up and hit multiple enemies can do quite a bit of damage with Killshot and Volley.
(And makes #4 SOMEWHAT more useful, being able to apply Vulnerability to all it hits.)
It’s speed is mostly my issue, with its cast and projectile speed. They are quite slow, especially for its untraited version which really suffers from it against more than one foe.
Overall, I think it could use more love, but that doesn’t stop me from still using it despite the drawbacks.
Keep in mind that they said that the vendor for the bucket and mini will persist after the patch is over. (Only the items for the unique weapons will be moved.)
Reflect only reflects projectiles lol.
Also Sick ‘Em is unblockable, so reflects weren’t possible anyways.
So… With the livestream confirming Empowered Allies being moved to the 20 point tier, I’ve decided to drop it. Overall I don’t see anything in the same traitline that will benefit me nearly as much. I don’t use shouts or stances much either.
0/20/30/10/10 is what I am currently running. However, I’ve been debating a bit as to what to replace Empowered Allies with. I was thinking of putting 5 more into Discipline for Fast Hands and 5 more into Arms of AOO. But I’m not entirely solid on the idea just yet.
Any suggestions that might make the blow a little lessened overall? So far, not particularly happy with the change.
They have come back once before, I’m sure they will come back again. The only question is when.
The previous holiday events did not have any sort of join function or friend invite. Nor do I expect them to this year.
If they didn’t have any rewards tied to them I don’t think groups would be a problem, however this does seem to be the case.
It’s unfortunate as it does take some of the fun aspect out of it and in case like the Toypocolypse in Winter’s day, organization was a nightmare.
Perhaps they might have changed it, but I wouldn’t count on it.
It’s based on character age, not account
Hit /age to find out how old it is in days. when it hits 365, tadah, birthday.
If you delete and re-recreate alot, birthdays will likely be a ways off.
All achievement rewards that involve currency, such as Laurels, Badges of Honor and so on, are tied to your account. Thus are transferred when you change servers.
Skins such as the Zenith ones you get to choose from are also account bound (if you click your achievements page you should see them listed there and able to be withdrawn any time.) Those are not character bound.
Anything else such as Bank items or PvP locker stuff however, I’m not sure gets transferred.
Power, Toughness and Condition Damage. Maybe swap Vitality with Toughness.
Boon Duration, Vitality, Toughness.
I’d actually just like to see more stat combos that utilize Boon Duration and Healing Power.
The change was indeed rather unnecessary. Things shouldn’t be stripped away just because they aren’t popular, one should look into why its the case and find ways to improve it, even still, leaving it for those who did enjoy it.
What next? Charr and Engies? I hear they are pretty unpopular…
This is mostly towards the mini itself, but also for the ascended weapons and other specific goodies that the dragon drops.
Do the exclusive Teq items only drop from the BIG chest after killing him? Or can they appear in the chests awarded from defending the megalaser as well?
The wiki unfortunately is conflicting in its information regarding this and I honestly would like to know if my attempts at acquiring these things are time-gated or not. This way I’m not wasting time that could be better spent elsewhere. Even more so now that organization for the encounter is a little harder than it was before.
I am happy about the drop buffs and would like to make use of it if I can.
Protection/Berserker Stance/Endure Pain all require you to be hit as well to be effective. :P
Endure Pain makes you immune to damage. Getting hit isn’t a concern, nor does it require you to be hit. It’s merely a safeguard. But equipping that means you aren’t using a Signet, reducing Deep Strike’s effectiveness to begin with.
Beserker’s Stance is another preventive skill, it does not require to be hit, but rather prevent whatever does hit you. Just a flipside to ED. Again, takes up another slot, which does not benefit from Deep Strikes.
Protection is again, preventative. Although it doesn’t completely null damage, it reduces it. Protection isn’t something our class has much access to anyways, so why its even in here is beyond me.
Your fury trait, REQUIRES to be hit in order to activate. If you aren’t hit, it never procs.
Meaning, it has to be intentional. It’s an anti-safeguard trait. In order for it to be any use, you have to put yourself in notable risk in some fashion.
Regardless, you are arguing why Deep Strikes is worse than Furious Reaction, not comparing skills to said trait based on usefulness or effectiveness.
Oh man.. getting hit to proc something ROCKET SCIENCE!
Never said it was hard, any fool can get hit. The point is, you shouldn’t need to and the benefit from doing so is counter productive. Persistent & Stacking > Conditional & Not. That’s merely my argument.
That is an amazing skill, it gives everyone 160 precision and you don’t need EVERY SLOT filled to make it effective.
Deep Strike is a worthless trait, and needs adjusted. There is NO reason to take it when there is a fury buff right by it.
The trait does not even fit its name that well, Deep Strike doesn’t sound like it has anything to do with Rings.
Amazing? Last Time I checked, they had to waste a 20 points into a tier just to receive this benefit. The Warrior’s is only Adept and the more useful one of the two imo.
See, thats the thing about the 5 signet build, I was going to use them anyways? Deep Strikes or not, that would be my setup. I just find the trait a mere icing on the cake so to speak.
That ‘fury’ trait requires you to get hit. Something you should avoid doing to begin with. It only lasts for 10 seconds and it only stacks in duration with other fury. Meaning that 20% is all you are going to get. Where as activating SoR with Deep Strikes or any other source of Fury, I’m getting more. Not to mention the abysmal cooldown for it. (In regards to the fury aspect, the vigor isn’t bad) but for a whole 20 seconds, you have a worthless trait until cooldown all over again. This isn’t counting any actions that might cause you to waste that 10 seconds, such as using that vigor to actually get you out of a tough spot or healing if it was a heavy enough blow. In which case half of that trait has already been wasted.
Something that is persistent and can stack with other sources without a cooldown seems like a far greater benefit imo for what it’s purpose is for.
What makes it a good trait?
With 4 Signets (because I know you use SoR.) its only 160 precision, and that is using all 4 signets on your bar.
“Only” 160 precision? Ranger’s get a trait that gives the group roughly the equivalent, is that not a good trait? Why would they bother if 160 precision was so miniscule to people? Personally I find 160 to be quite a fair jump to be added.
I don’t have to worry about having to meet any condition requirements for me to keep it either. Nor have to make up for the loss precision through gear.
Also, imho the Signets are fine as they are. Healing Signet is already pretty awesome, Fury recently got a precision buff, the other seem a bit unnecessary or a bit over the top. Most notably the SoR one. I have the Sigil of Generosity on my Rifle, transferring conditions every 10 seconds is something I already do, and it is indeed very powerful and handy to have. But it’s quite out of place for the skill.
Signets aren’t for everyone, but I find it more of a ‘jack of all trades’ for the warrior. You usually aren’t left out of having anything and are always benefiting from them in some way.
As a 5 Signet warrior, I’d prefer if my build was left alone. I enjoy what Deep Strikes offers, even though I’m not exactly happy with the nerf personally.
It doesn’t have any conditions that need to be met besides the signets for it to remain in effect, can’t be removed/countered and it doesn’t destroy my traitline just to make up for a loss of critical chance.
Used to work well for my crit build before Heightened Focus got changed around and if that extra boost of power is required, SoR can easily put it up a bit more.
I still think its a good trait, even if its not a popular one.
Well, I think the opposite is better. As a primarily precision based fighter, I found Beserker’s to be more superior. You still need the raw damage in order for things like crit to be worth anything.
My warrior zerker has about 69% crit chance naturally without fury or buffs (they had higher before the nerfs) using all beserker gear. And adding in fury and food buffs, you can easily attain that 100% crit chance. (I’m not even full exotics either btw).
Also keep in mind, alot of higher end content is immune to crits. Objects and open world bosses make crits rather useless, so having a good boost in power is still a decent compromise.
But this is just my opinion.
The Champs are actually fairly harmless …. IE: they’re usually just a Thrall that hits 3x harder and has 30x more hitpoints. …It’s actually the Hypnoss & Abom veterans that I’ve noticed are the biggest threat and the Hypnoss especially are always neglected the hardest when they should really be the primary target even before the Aboms.
To be honest, the only champ that seems lethal that cant be handled by oneself is the Champ Grub. (Which is probably the hardest thing about this fight simply because of its damage and AoEs.)
But you are correct in that keeping the other ones alive is only advantageous to making sure none of the others spawn, allowing the rest of the defenders to focus on fingers.
I’ve been on a turret
But there you are saying you autocast 2, which of course doesn’t work at all.
Any why not? If you make sure Teq remains targeted, having the scales remover fire upon preparation is much faster than doing it manually.
Which allows the turret operator to fire the other skills when its required.
Though, with a solid group, even the scales aren’t that big of a deal since the wall can be taken down in 3 seconds flat.
A good setup for warriors on the turrets is having a Grandmaster in Defense. Defy Pain is extremely handy when you are surrounded by the poison clouds or mobs. Those extra seconds can save you and allow you or your allies to cleanse or protect you if you aren’t able to yourself.
Healing Signet is also a considerable boon as you can’t activate utilities while on a turret, so the regeneration will help keep you alive, coupled with Adrenal Health when you do take any sort of damage.
Dolyak Signet for reduced damage and popping stability real quick (Krait mobs can pull you from the turret after all).
Endure Pain is another good utility to have if you must pop something defensively.
Shake It Off or Signet of Stamina are good alternatives if you need something to pop quickly as well, but should only be in dire circumstances.
Warbanner is preferred just in case something goes wrong with teammates around you. But Signet of Rage is also handy in building up that adrenaline when under attack for Adrenal Health.
Op hasn’t been on the turret = Op has only been carried through this event, now thinks it’s easy.
/Headdesk
I’ve been on a turret, been frontline on the Teq foot, I’ve also been turret defense. I’ve done it all. If you like, I could even detail exactly how my strategies go to preform and my survival and efficiency for all 3 jobs if need be.
The roles aren’t hard at all. You just can’t be 100% relaxed sipping your coffee. But they are far from achievement status or difficult.
This event is easy on the grand scale of things. As i mentioned in several cases, the difficulty isn’t from Teq himself, its from everyone else to make up for the race mechanic.
