There’s really no right or wrong order to pick skills. By the time you’re 80 you will have the Hero Points to get all skills and traits (except the elite specialization), so there are no important choices.
Look at the “wheels” of skills and pick the ones you find interesting. If there’s any tactic to it, it’s looking at the Locked skills at the end of some – the Elite skills (goes in the 0-slot). If there’s one you like the look of – make sure to work on that line of skills so you can unlock the elite asap when you hit 31 (the level the Elite slot opens).
I’ll rather not set a foot in that whole hot expansion mess.
Any news about new expansion here btw? All I saw was some obscure leaked data and not all of the info was great to be honest.
What we have is that the plan to release it in essentially the same timeframe as LW, alowing for a bit more time as it is an expansion after all.
So, next episode sometime during july/v early august; expansion towards the end of the year, maybe? Probably more info coming with/after last LW3 ep. Then LW4 a couple months after expansion.
(All of that from the Flashpoint AMA at reddit.)
Bug report it, I really don’t think it’s supposed to pop up like that all the time! I didn’t for me when I got to 80 early last year!
The difference of an automatic funneling from what we have today is that the current donation system is both active and volountary. This system, while semi-volountary removes the active and thus concious part. I can absolutely see the value in doing just that, but to me that is overshadowed by the negative aspects, a feeling of underhandedness.
As I said, if there was a contuinual straight up gold cost (I’ve played a game with guild housing paying weekly rent), I’d be ok with this funding it, but not when another player will actually handle it.
Mismatched footage and voiceovers are really common in trailers, both game and movie. As is details in a trailer ending up cut from the final product. That’s just a fact of life regarding trailers, partly for marketing/dramatic impact and partly from trailers being made before the product is finished.
One can always trade them in for Spirit Shards, rather than keeping them in inventory.
Good luck.
Only if you have maxed your masteries. Still though, if there is an empty char slot use them for key runs at least.
No, any lvl 80 character can use a ToK to gain a spirit shard.
No, if I’m reading that right, you have a 20% bonus to Bleed and Chill, making them 66% instead of the 46% all of your condis have. The one in the tooltip shows total for specific conditions.
If I tag along on a zerg, I usually get rezzed even if I’m not in the squad… Seems a pretty self-defeating thing to, ignoring non-squadded allies…
Buffs of course, will not prioritize someone outside squad, but you’ll still get some, in my experience.
Edit: I play a Ranger, usually LB/S
I see a lot of people advocating for cutting mystic Mystic Crystals and Philospher Stones, so I have to chime in and defend their position on the list. If you want to cut, cut elsewhere, please. Crystals and Philospher Stones always, ALWAYS leave leftovers.
Anything that’s account bound and easily creates leftovers should absolutely remain on the list. It’s a very exhaustive list and certainly has omissible items, but Crystals and Stones are not one of them. In fact, they’re most certainly on my top 10.
Fully agree!
Stuff that is
1) Bought from Miyani
2) in ones rather than bundles, and
3) Only MF
can be cut.
Well, I’m really loving it, so I plan on sticking around.
A few questions, though, how often does new content get released? Will there be an expansion coming in the next year? What’s the future of this game; will it be around for many years to come?
When starting an MMO, I wanna know the game will still be around in say 7 years.
Lately, we’ve gotten small content updates every 2-3 months, the next coming some time july/august. Sometime late this year we’ll get an expansion, really no more info released.
Realistically, nothing will depose WoW from the throne of MMOs for a very long time, if actually ever in its lifetime – just from momentum.
However – Welcome to Tyria!
Starting advice:
1) Don’t use the Lvl80 boost on your first character! It does not take long to level “naturally”, and you’ll learn the game a lot better by going gradually.
2) Get gathering tools and mine/log/forage most everything you see, that’ll be a decent income along the way.
3) Remember that the dynamic level adjustment keeps “outlevelled” maps (decently) relevant still. XP and most drops are adjusted to your level, even when you are in turn adjusted to the maps level.
You can always split the team of 8 into two teams of 4 for the 5-man stuff. Do dungeon paths or fractals parallell and see which team finishes first, or with fewests downs or whatever.
Invulnerability not working against existing condition, I can agree that’s a bit unintuitive, but it’s clearly written.
Being able to Block existing conditions (as is possible in some other games) feels really strange. Once you’re bleeding, your shield isn’t going to stop it.
I’d personally like to see the Shards (Shard of Friendship, Shard o’ War, Shard of Endeavor) removed as well, because they are only used for crafting exactly one Legendary each and have otherwise no use.
Agree! Can’t see why they were added, you need a total of 290 of them, there’s no need to pre-make them, and it’s really a one time thing! Storage for Mystic Curio is enough.
Where can I get the feather wings?

Gem store, they come back regularly.
Just like the skill bar is saved separately with a default starting build (often containing racial skills, and sometimes duplicate skills for some reason) the traitsvare also saved separately with a default build.
WvW has its own saved set of traits, by default the Elite spec line isn’t slotted. Thus you Reaper is just a Necro (ergo: base shroud skills) and your Scrapper is just an Engie and can’t wield hammer. (No engie can wield mace).
Look through your specializations – you’ll want them differently from PvE anyway!
While they have three teams, I have to imagine there are parts that are only done one episode at a time; finishing touches, QA etc. It would be strange to split everything into the three teams. If for instance team 2 is slow and team 3 fast and you then get ep 5 and 6 ready at the same time. Holding a completely finished episode back for a release schedule would be a waste of resources, but releasing them too tight in relation to the rest of the season creates its own upsets.
And all that doesn’t actually matter in judging if an episode is delayed or not. What matter is stated release cadence. MO let us know that ep5 would be on the later end of it, rather than early (as the first few episodes were) or middle. It stayed inside the 2-3 month window, and thus its release was not delayed. It might have been finished later than expected internally, but the release schedule had room for that.

Support to add: Lumber Cores and the like. They drop from gathering and you can need to save them for a while.
Suggest to remove: Things bought from Miyani singularly (rather than bulk), and used only in the MF.
Complicated, so suggestion for different sollution:
I don’t see the need for Dowels, as they are made one at a time, and there’s no reason to make in bulk (unlike cooking). But Patches do need, as they are made five at a time, so in excess in every crafting but exotic. (Full set of MW uses 6, Rare uses 12)
Symmetry then asks both to be added.
Suggestion: Slash the Patch recepie to only produce one patch for 1/5 of the current materials. That puts it on equal footing with the Dowels, and much easier to just make what you need when you need it. With that change, neither Patches or Dowels need slots.
Flashpoint wasn’t actually pushed back from the stated schedule. It was pretty much to the week 3 months from Head of the Snake. (Had they waited another week it would have been 3 months and 1 day)
They’ve stated “2-3 months” between episodes. The last tuesday within three months from Flashpoint is August 1; the first tuesday past two months is July 4 (not terribly likely).
But that’s materials, not gold. Since a guild can’t trade directly it would have to be managed by a player, and there is currently no way to “guild-bind” items, any form of gold-funnel to a guild would be the game forcibly moving resources from one player to another. Not Cool.
Writs of experience have been annoying ever since they came out. they should simply be replaced by potions that you can consume anytime, with the option to still convert 20 of them into tomes.
Exactly what are you suggesting to change in their functionality? Because I can’t see any effective change, just a rename to potion.
I agree on your point that Writs and Tomes have no place in the material collection, and a “use all” feature on tomes would be awesome!
How much actual, straight gold does the guild spend?
Not to buy items, straight gold.
Because the guild itself can’t buy things from the TP, for instance – only characters can. So any gold siphoned into the guild by the game is either not usable for tp, or risks being effectively a mechanically enforced tribute to the leader.
Not having one myself I’m straight up guessing here, but I can imagine:
- More convenient placement of services relative each other
- LA’s one-way connection from bank to tp comes to mind, as does the Dungeon vendor
- Shorter load times
- Convenient placement in the map/world (primarily heard that about the Ember Bay and DR passes)
A collection of rather minor things, but how minor/annoying they are varies from person to person.
As long as that means we don’t have to give up any of the currently-planned features, skins, QoL, UI, or any other changes, sure.
Where can I see the list of currently planned features, etc? Is there a list or are you speaking metaphorically?
Some are asking ANet to prioritize adding an option to hide particle effects (either collectively or weapon by weapon, as the OP suggested). That means not working on something else.
More control over the degree of particle effects shown (client side) would definitely be a QoL update. Since we as players have no way of knowing if QoL feature A or B is planned, we can’t claim working on B is “setting back planned features”.
Argue QoL vs Content, argue this vs that QoL, but you can’t say “suggested QoL feature shouldn’t take work away from planned QoL features” because you and I can’t possibly tell the difference between “planned” and “new” features.
I further predict that regardless of what they do, the forums will be filled with complaints about the costs.
That’s a safe bet if ever I saw one!
Regarding maybe giving a free character slot – since I doubt we’re getting a new class or race, I really don’t think a character slot is very likely as there’s (I believe) not going to be something new to immediately fill it with.
I boosted from around 40.
Gear: hypothetical, but I think you get the gear even if you use it on a lvl 80!
Hero points: By beibg levelled to 80 you get all the base hero points. Any challenges you’ve done along the way is on top of that, just like if you’ve levelled step-by-step.
Story: Completely unaffected, just like if you do story up to a point and then play or tome up to 80.
Weapon: You get default weapons. As I boosted a Thief too, I can tell you the are a pair of Daggers, a Shortbow, a Spear and a Harpoon gun. Everything, absolutely everything, is Valkyries (Power, Vitality, Ferocity).
To my knowledge they do not relate at all to the legendary armor, and the legendary weapons that have been released alongside the last 4 episodes are available without them.
Also – remember that ep 5 is unlocked just by logging in now. To unlock the currently active episode, you don’t have to do anything more than simply logging in to a character!

Playing story content usually in duo, I have seen moments where me and my spouse had different response alternatives available a couple time, so it’s still tracked and used. Used in an extremely limited amount, though!
Also, remember that all maps you’ve levelled past are still relevant. You’ll get downscaled, and you get xp based on your level!
I wouldn’t call 5 times the price “very little cost difference”.
Exotic medium coat: just over 19g
Ascended medium coat: just over 99g.
(Both of these according to gw2efficiency)
And that’s disregarding cost to get to 500.
Explore, find vistas and hero points, do dynamic events, harvest materials. All of these give experience, especially dynamic events!
Whether you doubt it or not, it is entirely player maintained. Anet hosts it, and it’s accessible from the game, but everything is user added – even the patch notes gets copied over from the forums by users.
I really think the fundamental coding of the game simply doesn’t allow it. Given that each map really is one instance, and much of it is loaded at once, I think it would require an engine recoding – i.e. rebuilding the game from the ground up.
I’ve not played the raids at all. I haven’t found the story around Lazarus to be confusing due to missing info from the raids. I takes a few twists and turns that make it somewhat confusing but not in relation to the revival/the raid, really.
Some sadistic asura making an experiment trying to see how many silly players will jump to their death.
Disturbingly likely, actually.
Well, one thing to get is the Endless Embiggening Tonic from Draconic Mons. It makes my human slightly bigger norn NPCs.
I’m contemplating adapting the icon for Broad Head Arrow, as that was my perpetual go-to for my Ranger main in GW. Annoying casters in a dungeon? Ah, f it, slot BHA and complete shutdown!
My spouce is similarily thinking about the Spell Breaker icon, as well as the Augury Rock glyphs.
Well, reporting in with the first try – a success!
We did AC, as it’s the first chronologically. Power Druid (lb/staff) and Tempest (sc/wh). Took it nice and slow; it was much easier than I expected! Emboldened, and will try more, going in order!
To those wondering why I asked rather than just tried: mainly because I wanted to know it was realistic, and even mechanically possible. Trying, and finding it actually impossible, is not really something I find enjoyable. This thread confirmed to me that there were no mechanical stops, just skill-based ones.
Thanks everyone for the encouragement!
Also, what Inculpatos pointed out deserves stressing – the birthday presents are per character, and based on character age. Year 3 and 4 have been quite valuable, with a choice of account bound dyes that are pretty expensive to get from the trading post. It can be assumed that the upcoming 5th year gift is going to be similar. It might feel worth holding on to the old characters just for that, as you have 9 of them coming up!

Glider Basics only require one point. Updraft Use, the next one, costs two.
OP are you _sure_ you don’t already have Glider Basics?

The Prelude story starts just south of Red Rock Bastion, have you done that?
…Maybe it was talking about the tankards? Like…the quaggan thought the tankards were pools?. Thats the only thing I can think of.
Hm… that would actually have worked pretty well in Swedish (and maybe other scandinavian languages) as we use the word “full” (same meaning as english) for “drunk” as well…
Having 9 characters means you have at some point purchased 4 extra character slots. 5 was always the starting amount.
O.o
Well, you’re definitely not alone in not getting it, ‘cause I’m completelt lost as to what the joke is!
Longbow! I want to be able to decide if I’m going to start going for that or Nevermore. Right now, I’m just hoarding ridiculous amounts of Elder Wood!
There is a way to reconcile the fact that leather prices have dropped with Anet’s statement that the engie farm brings in less leather.
The Bloodstone hides salvages to all tiers. The engie farm generates just t5 and t6.
Yup, you can move it to whichever bag slot you want.
Notes about the Pact Equipment Box:
1) I functions exactly like the Equipment Boxes crafted by Armorsmiths
2) It is _soul_bound on aquire, so must be crafted by the character to use it.
