i can tell you i played d/d front line s/p front line short bow front line. flaws where thief get rekt is placement you run full zerker front line if you want. second you hit a choke or a closed in fight area your build instantly trash. regardless of how much you want to heal with it sorry.

knowing where and what you can fight is what will make this build. it will not work in chokes or lord rooms fights open field i would say it could do fine.

There simply too much AOE at choke points for any thief build to survive in it too long. I have managed to use an SOM build to get me through a choke point and out the other side but if you caught in it nothing can really save you.

The SOM user can do very well in a smaller scale Lords room battle. I have flipped a tower solo with such a build with as many of 4 of the enemy there as well and defended them as well. This of course depends on the skill level of the enemy and how much AOE they have to toss around. If the group AOE weak you can do very well.

small scale fight i prefer the healing of vemons. but that not really related to this topic.

but my point is if you are playing at the top T1 WvW roughly 60% engagement are at a choke point. so 60% of the time this type of style would be more or less useless depending on what you are fighting. when we talk zerging i talking like 20- 50+ anything less is just a large group.

i am not saying you can not do it just simply knowing where you will struggle.

@OP S/P is a lot higher skill floor to use. I would suggest learning d/p & s/d before dedicating your self to s/p. They are both much more forgiving sets. There is also certain opponents that s/p doesn’t fair well against, that dagger OH is a much better choice.

Learning opponents patterns and skills is essential for thief in general. As you need to know which skills to interrupt and dodge.Try playing all the classes take note of what the heal animations look like and what the big hitting skills look like. Try and get friends that have those classes on different races also show you how those animations vary from race to race.

For WvW i run it more as a glass cannon you do semi high burst dmg with pistol whip simply becuase most of WvW is based around how effectively you kill someone to get next person.

i would more likely run the bunker one myself mostly because longer the fight goes more likely the better player will win. unless your fighting a rev. then you lose longer the fight goes LOL but that beside the point

S/P is probably strongest play style on theif but require probably one of biggest learning curve to play it well. and as said befor d/p just roll it over sadly not because it just that much better d/p just is able to keep reseting well s/p has to fight honest

biggest pointer i can give you is learning punish frame. such as fix animation skill all have a after cast animation delay where they cant push anything. such as heart seeker has a .2 of a second after cast animation can only be cancel by dodge but dodge is a fix animation as well as a .1 after animation.

Idea is to dodge vault spam, all crit from DD runes, while leaving crippling caltrops. Also has 2x Immob trap to stop enemy melee. Obviously it needs 2 guardians but the build may still not work.

with out trying it i can tell you upfront it may work in current meta of ultra heavy nerco but when meta changes that build probably die pretty fast mostly do to wards bypassing dodge.

I think OP was referring to the stuff that happens like, standing in a camp shooting at camp guards, then suddenly have your attacks not hit and getting the ’’Obstructed’" message – while there are no obstacles between you and your target.

Happens to me on Borderland’s South Camp sometimes, etc. etc.

infiltrator arrow can be consumed if it hit a target such as a IR supervior because anet logic. same thing for choking gas if you target it in to a player with aegis an the bullet hit player it will consume the shot but not create a field However if you target the ground it consume the aegis and create field again anet logic !. LOL<— these are the type of thing that amuse me in guild war 2 dont judge me Q_Q

Staff can be used instead of SB in WvW. It doesn’t move as well but it is fairly close. I have been running a P/P and Staff power build with bound and Acro with a good bit of success.

you should just toggle weapons. my thief carry i think 12 weapons on me at all times do different stuff.

yeah bandit def is solid i ran rune of guardian with it one time on my bunker thief was pretty lol. did not end up being very effective but trying something different is fun.

But on a serious topic i did not get to vote on this but i would recommend that if you wanted to add this that it only effect tower / keep an be a little hammer you pick up beside any supply deposit that only use supply from tower or keep that can only repair mortar cannon and oil.

because honestly that only siege that matters. open world siege is a waste of supply probably 95% of time.

I think I’m going to force all of you to play D/D before you’re allowed any further opinion.

ETA: But in the end; what matters is that the devs finally know what they’re doing. I somehow suspect they just leave D/D as it is as it’s too much work to a) play it b) fix it.

The plan is D/D is fine and needs nothing.

See, I had/have this one stalker, who came to my server and called me by my real name but not where I knew him from. To impress me he brought his friend who copied “my style”: D/D with one Incinerator. They followed me around for some time, and his friend was lying around more dead than alive. Then I pretty much quit wvw because it was kind of creeping me out to have these two guys around.
I now know who it was and the D/D thief is a thief main, but usually D/P (of course).

In short: If you’d knew wvw you’d know that stealthing off walls has been nerfed = pretty much impossible right now, you’d know that mobs were vastly reduced and you would also realize that a playstyle relying on RNG “I have to be around an enemy tower/mobs that aren’t killed by anyone else” is worse than D/P. But alas, yes, D/D is fine and needs nothing.

impotent add on you may not know of is if you turn on “allow skill retargeting” when you use finishing blow on anything re target at last second. it will get stomped. make it very easy to combo with steal

i completely disagree with this change that trait is not OP if anything head shot should be nerf. to have a cast time. but thief not strong enough class for them to nerf even a broken mech on thief.

I agree headshot makes pulm too oppressive but 4k with no cd seems over the top to me so I’d rather see it down to something like 2k on a 5 sec cd.

but it was design to be stacked. only weapon that make it seem strong is head shot. we should solve core problem not nerf thief simply because d/p is strong.

if anet really wanted to they could change how mech of how it scale on dmg based on how you stun someone say something like.

1x dmg main hand cc being first 1 – 3 skills
.5x dmg on offhand weapon cc 4 -5 skills
1.5x on uility cc. 6 – 9 skills
2x on elite 10 skills

this would globally nerf D/P itself but raise overall usefulness of the trait with all other weapon set.

i do not think it thief that is presay bad. i think it more way the map is design. like what if conquest became only 1 of the 3 point can be active at a time. then movement would be king. such things like trapper guard or or even nerco would be classed as weak classes because they always end up running around the map trying to catch up to the active point.

an easy way to fix that is to make the point work diferent 1v1 point does not change 2v1 points start to change to the 2 person color same thing with more players, the team with more players on points get the cap slowly.
this will even kill solo bunker a point

that one way to view it but traps mean nothing mark mean nothing if you stealth hold a point. if you reveal a thief you shut him down for 6 second at 30 seconds cd. so he always be netting time in a game if he can control a cap or even negate one. i think it would just be to strong.

assuming you playing against people that can telegraph a thief perfectly in theory it could be shut down on paper i would say most likely most legend players would not be able to stop it. you just take mid thief camp it all game.

What needs to happen is to shave off some of these delays starting with Flanking Strike. This skill needs to be instant just as Shadowshot is instant. Instead of having a 360deg turn animation, the Thief will simply blurred out or something. The evade effect will simply continue for its current duration of 1/2s, just add a shadowy effect to show that the Thief still has the evade effect.

i disagree with idea of 360 degree turn animation making it become roughly a 1 second eva main problem is how hard s/d is telegraph play style so making eva longer would not fix core problem. of being thief should be able to just keep evaing with out people knowing when they will stop.

Then, Larcenous Strike needs to also be an instant, reduced cost back to 1init, and would only steal a boon when striking from the flank or back. These changes will allow the weapon set the precision it needs to execute the skills successfully and it rewards players for positioning correctly. Which also bringing it up to par with Shadowshot in terms of effectiveness.

larcenous strike i find is not in a bad spot it does semi good dmg boon ripping is always nice it not very hard to land. personally i would like it something like steal 1 boon then destroy a second one.

Other changes would require that CnD will have a shadowstep built in, casting time reduced to 1/4s, and cost reduced to 4 init. The damage and the vulnerability stacks can be nerfed for balance, since the important part is to make CnD useful and a reliable way to go in stealth.

i disagree to part of this one as well. i am fine with CnD int but should not be a shadow step move they should add blind to it. even if it was at cost of removing vulnerability.

then if we want to talk about dancing dagger should scale in bonus pre hit and be able to bounce with the thief.
refunding 1 int on final bounce if it land on thief. something like

first bounce = cripple(3 second cripple) + 180 dmg
second bounce = cripple(3 second cripple) + blind(3 second blind) +180 dmg
final bounce = cripple(3 second cripple) + slow(1 second slow) + 180 dmg or if it land on thief refund 1 initiative

i agree that blind and stealth play a role but you can telegraph both of those main issue. is s/d core eva move has hardcore punish frame on it. if that was removed it raise the weapon set usefulness threw the roof. maybe not beat D/P but in choosing the weapon set overall i could see it being played more.

d/p beats s/d because of flanking strike punish frames. only way to fix it be lower after animation time on flaking strike or completely changing how the skill works. honestly if it something like hold flanking strike consume 1 initiative every half second extending the eva frames. it could be very hard to deal with it.

if we talking about stranded trapper guard then you have to threw 3 phrases first is removing traps. with a dodge second is removing retrap where you gain 30 second window to dps him last final problem will be his 90s block that you just have to wait out.

you have to do this all well being able to LOS his long bow because a single strike will cause gg for you.

but it more or less as ario said it not worth the time trying. if you win dragon hunter did not know how to weapon stow his auto attack combo at end of dodge frame.

i do not really play spvp anymore but i suggested to a few of my spvp friends really like the conspect so i figured i share it.

So i think there should be class reward for quing with 1 class.

the way it rate determine who the best of that month is first go “rank” so legendary(legendary tier make no difference) hit top of the board" then it go point overall earn for that season. then overall damage if it a tie. very unlikely but should remove any chances of doubles.

so to explain it be something like

Bob Legendary 2348971 29234384723

To reward going high ranks faster then staying in low rank we add a point score bonus pre rank.

(Only scale on point score not damage)

amber x1 point / emerald x2 point saphire x3 point / ruby x4 point / diamond 5x point / finally legend would be x6 point

the reward should will be a gold crown for first a silver crown for second an a copper crown for last. all Top 3 will be rewarded 1 key to a npc that sell legendary lama armor.

Gold Crowns will be unlock a glow based on the class you won with. So if you win with a thief you will get a dark glow around your hero well wearing the crown.

Thief = black
nerco = dark green
Mesmer = purple
guardian = blue
ranger = some kinda earth color probably a bright green brown ish one. idk no one like ranger ! I SAID IT LOL
ele = change based on element they are in so earth water fire air
rev = dark purple
Engi = red

this may end up bring more salt to solo quing but i think in long term of the game this bring more joy overall to pvp latter. giving reason for every class to qu

front line thief is not worth it because the dps is not there. i tried it many different version staying alive is not my problem in zerg fights just nothing compare in dmg to what short bow brings to a zerg fight.

if you want to be useful in zerg fighting the way you do it. is you jump in to middle of a zerg spam choking gas everywhere then shadow step out. ingame it may look like you did nothing. but you triggered everyone passive con removal. simple zerg fallow up attack is crushing to other team.

Yea, I saw that, I’m much more aware of necro staff animations that I failed to dodge before…even if the animation is obvious. I just didn’t pay much attention before.

i can tell you 100% every game i go home then mid to grab a quick stomp then rotate far. then i stay at far untill someone try to contest me if i can win fight i stay around if they 1v2 me i just rotate to mid to get another quick stomp. that basicly how i play every map lol.

How do you manage someone coming close at the beginning ? someone you will have trouble with like an engi or a warrior ? How do you counter that ? I suppose it depends on the ennemy team comp. Could you explain for both sustainy and medium ennemy comp ?

if engi want my home he can take it honestly i just recap 10 seconds later if he rotate back far i brawl him on his own point because then he wont win a long term fight if you know how to intrup a engi. with well placed dodges you should be able to out tempo him in long run but more then likely you draw support from other team to try deal with you then you even if they cap the point you just run them around in circles as long you can befor ditching out. you may view it as it dumb an no one ever fall for that but i had 4 people tried to chase me at far befor other team started raging : ).

Deal with a warrior you have to play match up really really really slow. because basically anything they do will instant kill you if you let them land it on you so you have to slowly burn out there stab well not being hit by anything. honestly i would just avoid the match up all together let your nerco make them look like a joke.

needle trap is fine where it at. probably top 3 trap in the game.

should become active field for 4 seconds. and add a physical hit to it so it not abused with daredevil.

shadow trap return should become infinite range act like portal located on wherever player is.

ambush trap. should remove the dumb npc and add something like spawn a random field for 4 seconds.

Traps are already unblockable. They aren’t likely to be avoided. That situation would almost never come up.

Again, I’m talking about when they get evaded or invulned. Traps get evaded all the time, even by accident.

i think being able to eva threw a trap is dumb honestly. it should be classed same tier as a ward if you run in to it should get hit by it.

Yes and no. You wouldn’t be able to reset the trap until after the animation finished and immobilize wore off. Its hard to describe the timing…trigger, immobilize ends, two beats, broken icon fades in. Same with tripwire; knockdown ends, two beats, broken icon fades in. You won’t be able to stack effects. There is also an activation time to contend with but if someone stands in the the same place knowing that a thief can reactivate the trap … they deserve it.

animation itself is a single trigger animation so that like 1/8 and immo can be scaled on con duration all i can see in this idea is thief becoming super broken.

because you have to remember thief does not just have 1 needle trap they have 2 on different internal CD.

so even if you gave this say like a 30 second CD where a thief pull this combo off just once. you have to look at it as that +15 might +15 vul +3 posion +9 bleed +9s of immo well a thief gain 6 second of stealth.

that all being said i do not dislike this idea of trap resetting mech i am just saying. needle trap either have to be removed from the game or would have to rewrite the idea so it cant effect thief traps.

if someone would trigger needle trap? i could press F and it repop it on top of them ? if so that sounds beyond broken lol.
