What's the biggest mistake you've ever done?

So far, my worst, and most amusing mistake…..was just the other night in WvW. I was claiming a tower late at night on my ranger, when a lone enemy waltzed up the stairs, and I engaged him. After a few seconds of trading blows/shots/etc., he knocked me back and stunned me….I broke the stun, and without thinking where I was on the small tower platform took my short bow and fired the shot that does an evade roll back when you shoot(can’t remember the name of the shot). Well, I rolled back and off the tower, tumbling over and over again down through the outer scaffolding that was against the tower…..with my character letting out ‘oofs’ all the way down. Fortunately, I had the mud special that breaks your fall, and I barely survived the 5+ story fall……lol. I laughed and laughed at what I had just done.(It doesn’t take much to amuse me….lol). After doing such a stupid thing…….fortunately, as I was falling, a small group of friendlies close by dusted the guy on top of the tower, and I still got some credit for the kill. I can just imagine what my enemy thought as I tumbled backwards off that tower(“what a moron!”) just before he got finished off by the small group of friendlies.

My wife got a good laugh out of it, too…..as she has done the same with her elementalist more than once….lol.

If your worst experience is buying the game, why do you still play it and post on forums ?

Because there are always people in game forums who would rather whine/be a drama queen about how bad the game is, rather than moving on to some other game that they might enjoy.(I know, that’s way too simple….lol)

I remember when I played DaoC(Dark Age of Camelot), and would visit the forums….there were a couple people that had quit the game, yet still felt the need to scream/cry/whine about the game and why they quit it 2 years after they quit…..guess they had nothing better to do with their time…lol. /shrug

Sorry but I might play a bit to try and finish WvW Season 2, but I no longer am addicted. Until they change a lot of stuff, I’m not going to drop another cent at this game.

How do you drop another cent on this game when there is no monthly fee?

I’m just going to go with pvp in general…. I’m just…not good at it. I try, but I seem to lack the dexterity or something.

ikr. Im 50+ years old. My hand eye coordination cant keep up with those young peeps. So the best I can aspire to be is avg on a declining curve when you need uber finger dex.

I know some use macro skill chains on their mouse.. others are just really that good with timings and even masterful. Those are the players I can never beat solo, they know how to work it and adjust their skills useage for any encounter.

Just the same, I have fun. Unlike toxic dungeon partys, peeps arent bursting blood vessels and having strokes because you didnt execute something to their expectations.

Well said. I too, am 50+….and am quite lacking in the dexterity skills to be an uber-pvp/wvw player……but I still have tons of fun by playing to my strengths and knowing my weaknesses. Sometimes, strategy and smarts will beat out dexterity on the keyboard. I still have great fun in pvp/wvw whether I die or not……I just enjoy the gameplay and chuckling at my and other’s mistakes during battles.

Exactly. I’m pretty sure this is the feeling that majority of those that left the game have. I haven’t been playing for a couple of months, but I do often return just to spend the remainder of my free time with mates that I’ve made in the game. Our guild had over 150 active people during the first months, now there’s 5-10 playing actively ( many of whom are new players ). Each and every one of those that left the game says exactly the same thing as you did, OP.
This game needs fresh, PERMANENT, content that adds PERMANENT fun. After all, it’s a game, it’s supposed to entertain people and not bore them.
Hope one day they realize that.

In the first place, how on earth are you pretty sure that the majority of people that have left the game feel the same way that you do about it? That’s a pretty silly, far reaching assumption, imo….lol.

And if they added this ‘permanent’ content that you speak of, some people would get tired of it eventually, just as you and others who have quit have found out. And then those people tired of that ‘permanent’ content would holler and ask for more, funner ‘permanent’ content. It’s a never ending cycle……when you get tired of a game, find something else that amuses you.

I have never understood why some people feel the need to come on a game forum and explain the reasons why they have quit and/or gotten tired of a mmorpg. You said yourself that you enjoyed the game for awhile, but have now gotten tired of it.

Ok. Move on. There are plenty of other mmorpgs out there to chose from…..find another one that you enjoy. (And enjoy paying your monthly fee…:P) Seriously, you come back after a year away, still don’t like the game anymore, and you feel the need to post something about it? Why?

There are obviously tons of other players still playing and enjoying it(myself included….over a year now) that would disagree with your reasons for quitting. Some people like certain mmorpgs, others don’t, or get tired of it all after awhile……..so, find yourself another mmorpg that you’ll enjoy……..there really isn’t much use posting your ‘concerns’ about why you quit, yadda, yadda, yadda…….

Give Anet some feedback as to why you quit, move on, and find something else you get a kick out of playing. It’s JUST a game, after all.

Best of luck!

Is this game losing to many players

Apparently Anet learned from all the other mmorpgs out there as to do what works and doesn’t work, EXCEPT for the ‘driving away players with content that demands huge numbers of coordinated groups’.

I can’t even begin to count the number of times I have seen this happen with other successful mmorpgs…….yeesh

This is fine and all but...

After this last patch, and the whole end Scarlett thing, I doubt if I will be spending much time doing it. This is all geared more for those players that need to have the best gear, do the most missions, do the added content to the hilt, etc…..I enjoy taking advantage of the added alliance drops, the occasional rare drop I get, the fun of the chaos in LA, and just enjoying the game. I really don’t need the best that is offered by these special events, as it sounds horribly bugged, and I don’t have the time to commit to it all, and frankly, I just enjoy playing the game for what it is.

If I was in my 20s-late 30s, in age, I would probably have the same complaints as a lot of the posters here do, and with good reason.

But being in my mid 50s, I just enjoy playing the game, getting some good downtime from my real life, and staying away from the bug infested areas of the game that will only frustrate me and take away from my enjoyment.

I think, overall, GW2 is a wonderful game. At least for me.

Have fun everyone!

Knights give too much loot

Seriously?? Someone is complaining about too much loot????

LMAO!!!!!!!

I would recommend playing WoW, DaoC, EQ2, or any number of older mmorpgs out there that don’t give you loot for cooperating……kill steals, pop timers and sealing off others when high end stuff pops, etc……yea, that’s where it’s at…….LOL

The absurdity of this thread has been a wonderful source of humor for me tonight…..lol

My issues with GW2

I completely agree with cranos…..
If you treat this game in a linear manner, as older mmorpgs mainly encourage you to do…..you’ll be horribly frustrated with this game. GW2 is a HUGE world…….bigger than any other mmorpg I have experienced, and to truly enjoy this game, you really need to venture off the simplistic paths(like exclusively heart missions and life story) and try all the other areas of the game. There are so many different things to do and gain experience from…..that is why this game, at least for me, is such a joy. It’s such a complete departure from all the other linear style mmorpgs out there.

Also, to ad…..be sure and roam your home city, and pickup all the points of interest, viewpoints, and waypoints…..as you’ll get good xp for completing that in a major city. Plus be sure to take the portals to other cities, and do the same……you can get at least a couple levels just completing all the city waypoints/viewpoints/points of interests.

It’s a good thing you never played Dark Ages of Camelot, as that game was a grind from hell to level. This mmorpg is an absolute joy leveling compared to most older mmorpgs, like Dark Ages of Camelot.

Be sure and rez(revive) downed npcs and real players whenever you see them, as you’ll get experience for that. Also harvest plants, trees, and ores that pop up in your travels, as you’ll also get xp for that as well. (plus you can sell them to merchants/traders)You get xp for just about everything in this game. You’ll need harvest tools to harvest plants, trees, and ore, which can be found on most merchants……get the highest level ones you can find that you can use. Also be sure to buy a salvage kit, as you can salvage certain types of drops, which will gain you more money and xp. (Be sure to get the highest level salvage kit you can use)

I would also echo others who have said to be sure to get waypoints, as that will speed up your travel time greatly.

Also, become familiar with using the traders, as you can find consummables to buy that will buff your abilities, as well as your xp.

Also, try and join a good guild, as that will also enhance your leveling and play experience, as you’ll have access to more help in game. It might take you a few tries to find a guild you like, so don’t get frustrated with that.

You also will need to learn how to spec your character after level 11, as that will also help with making your play experience better. Learn as many different weapon sets as your character can use, as you’ll most likely need different weapon sets depending on the situations you get into. (That’s not crucial, as you can play with a couple weapon sets that you like and do fine……but some people will argue that you need lots of weapon sets to be the most effective)

Feel free to contact me in game and I will also try and help you out. This is truly a great game, and once you get the hang of it, you can actually level fairly quickly(at least compared to most other mmorpgs)

My character is Teon.5168……if I am at a point where I can help you, I will try. (Can’t always, as sometimes I am doing guild events and/or paired up with my wife on higher level stuff)
