Yup. Megaservers will kill this game. I expect ANet to close their doors in just a few days because of the massive amount of people leaving.

My Farewell

Best of luck, Ransom!

I have been in WvW for some time, and yea, some nights are just a kill fest when you’re so outnumbered. When that happens, I just try to modify my tactics so I can get a few more kills. (Easier said than done, I know…lol)

But lately, have been running with some smaller zergs, (10-20 players), and we’re regularly going up against superior numbers(sometimes 2.5-1), and, amazingly enough we’re coming out on top most of the time(when we’re organized and on teamspeak). The other night, we were doing a keep defense when we got into an open courtyard battle….we were severely outnumbered, and still were able to hold them off…..took awhile, and had to run back a couple of times after dying…..but it was an absolute ton of fun! I wish you had had more experiences like that in WvW, as that is what makes WvW super fun, imo.

Hope you find another good game to entertain you!

Good suggestions……thanks!….asuran warrior sounds even more weird than a sylvari warrior….lol…..sylvari thief sounds interesting, too

Crazily enough I have two sylvari thieves. One at 80 who was one of my first characters and who I enjoy running around, and one with a much easier build than the older that’s still languishing in the mid-40s. For months now.

I love my Norn flamethrower/turret engineer (prob not popular for groups), and my Asura longbow/shortbow ranger who seems to do well enough at WvW that that’s going to be his thing. Got a Sylvari engineer on his way up that’s going to do the whole thing shirtless!

I actually have no idea what people like in groups so i just make what I like and see from there

I have an 80 norn(slight build) ranger(longbow/shortbow) that I am currently running in WvW……absolutely love him, as he was my first character…..absolute crazy fun to play in WvW(even though I die alot……but am getting better/smarter as I go, as I am running with a really good bunch of peeps that I met in WvW that are very friendly, knowledgeable, and willing to answer stupid questions)

New character questions

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Teon.5168

Teon.5168

Ok, so am wanting to create a new alt to try out the new trait system, megaserver, etc……wanting to experience leveling from 0-80 after the new patch.

I have several 80s, and several alts…..have been playing the game since 2 months after it was released…..am wanting to try something different/weird…..

My choices are either a warrior or a thief, neither of which I have played much at all.

I want something that will be helpful and somewhat desired in a group, and will be, eventually, good in either WvW and/or PvP, although most of my time leveling will be spent in PvE.

So am thinking maybe a sylvari warrior(nothing like a plant warrior to inspire fear….lol)

Or maybe a tiny asura thief.

I would like some suggestions for some odd/different character for either a thief or warrior. Feel free to suggest other races.

Please don’t post if you don’t have a valid suggestion…….am looking for suggestions from those of you who enjoy the game, and have good experience with these two professions.

Thanks!

The only thing i sympathize you for, is the truth you say behind lag and ruined communities. Leaving a player dead cause he tried to help you get down the champ, is something i would never do. In fact, sometimes i end up dying trying to revive said player. And then we end up both dead, but that’s part of the fun of it…

Completely agree with your game philosophy on this. My wife and I have always played this game, and other mmos, this way. More power to you!

Sorry, Nocturnal, but I have to agree with cNcHell……..this isn’t meant to be a solo game, even though a lot of people like to try to do it that way.

Soloing champs doesn’t make it a solo game. The only fun I have in the game anymore is now gone. And I will probably be moving on cuz this game has just gotten boring and super repetitive.

If the only fun you had in game was soloing champs, then I would say it was far past time for you to find another game that fits your playstyle better.

Complaining about how you can no longer solo champs in an mmorpg probably isn’t going to carry a whole lot of weight with Anet, or anyone, for that matter, who plays an mmorpg as intended.

Not trying to mock or ridicule your opinion…….just sayin……it’s a massively multiplayer online game……..while one can play it solo, it’s not really intended for that, ie, that’s not a priority for the game makers.

I hope you won’t have issues with the megaserver like many of us do, but no. I don’t want it to be better. I want it to work. I want to have fun with the game, like i used to. I want to feel comfortable and level up my brand new engineer, which is now “locked” in Kessex Hills. Simply cause the zone won’t load, due to heavy population. And when it does load, i get either disconnections, bad lag, and of course a massive fps drop to 11 – 13….from 59 – 60 i used to get.

Why Guild Wars 2 isn't Too Casual

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Teon.5168

Teon.5168

The new update has pretty much forced everyone to be a casual player.

Gw2 isn’t casual, as long as you already have a guild, don’t RP, don’t join
guaranteed win Tequatl fights with TTS, don’t run champion trains, and love running around everywhere with massive blobs of people you never met before. There’s even more examples.

Not to mention you have the joy of possibly meeting every troll on every server now instead of your own. So that itself will push some long time players into the casual status themselves.

GW2 has many new things to play with for here and now, it just destroyed a lot of what kept you playing for the long run. And alienated a lot of people who built things for the community.

That’s your opinion. I disagree. I consider myself casual most of the time with this game. But if I didn’t have a job, family, bills, etc…..I could easily be harcore in this game with absolutely no problem whatsoever.

And just curious……what do you mean by “And alienated a lot of people who built things for the community.”?

I just am not sure what you mean by that comment…..what exactly did these alienated people build for the community? /bewildered

Teon.5168

To me, the leveling process always felt VERY stale from about 40 or 50 until 80. (I have 7 80s, so I’ve done this a bit now.) I’m hoping that the new system makes that process feel a bit better, that all the traits (and hunting them down) gives me plenty to do.

I intend to build a new character and try the whole process from scratch. Anybody else going to do the same?

I think there’s a lot of criticism before people have had a chance to really take it all in and try it out. Give it a shot, then come back and complain.

Yea, I plan to reroll a new character and take it from 0 to 80, with no 20 lvl jump, to see what the new system is really like. I tend to agree with you, as after a few 80s it begins to get a bit stale……but this new system might throw in an interesting new twist to it all.

Plus, it will also be interesting/enjoyable to experience 0-80 again with good populations in all the areas due to the megaserver. Being on Kaineng, with it’s lower population, led to exploring a lot of near empty areas with my characters pre patch.

Why Guild Wars 2 isn't Too Casual

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Teon.5168

Teon.5168

Guild Wars 2 was created to be a casual game where people can spend their time now and then however the playerbase was crazy enough to stay around and ask for more…Anet delivered a system where you can grind for AP or skins and feel rewarded. The game doesn’t require grind, it is there for the people who want it.

Ok, that’s a really good point. And yea, I will agree…..there is a grind in this game for those that want it. Fortunately, that grind is not mandatory like it is in a lot of the other mmos I previously listed.

Teon.5168

You guys are all missing the point. I’m not talking about speed clearing dungeons or using a stopwatch to max my dps at level 40. I’m talking about having a more complete experience. Why would you want a game to take 1/2 of what defines your combat style and gate it behind so many levels and challenges and costs? That’s restrictive to the potential; potential fun, potential dynamic play, potential for variety, etc. It’s not about maxing dps. It’s about getting used to all the traits you’ll be using at 80 & testing how they synergize together, trying things out, and not letting combat become stale. It’s experiencing all that a class has to offer.

I suppose I can see your point, although I don’t agree that ‘1/2 of what defines my combat style’ has been taken away.

I suppose I would get a more accurate opinion on it all if I rerolled a new character at 0 and leveled it up to 80 again to see if it really does take away from my enjoyment level compared to pre patch experiences. I assume you have already done that based on your comments?

New player: Some things I wish weren't there

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

I know how you feel about the pets, and mounts, marlborz.

I hear people constantly shouting “Noooo!” about mounts like they’re a president refusing broccoli. I never understood the argument that removing mounts, but adding dozens of instant teleport points “makes people enjoy the scenery”. If anything, I think the opposite would be true.
I personally miss having something else fun, and personal to collect. …Even if they were a cosmetic-only item, like the broom, I think mounts would be great.

And yeah, I wish mini-pets were a bit more than, well…. miniatures of creatures, and NPCs found in game. It’s a bit immersion breaking. …I’d love to have a simple, black cat for my Necro. (thankfully, they added the raven)

I have no problems enjoying the scenery. When I want to do that, I just don’t use a waypoint portal.

I think part of the reason why some of us are so against mounts, is that it reminds some us, myself included, of older, super grindy mmos. Imo, portals are a much better solution than mounts to getting around the world at a quicker rate…..but that’s just me…..I know there are quite a few players out there that actually liked mounts.

30 levels to try out all the weapons? Really? You need 20 hours of gameplay to figure out how to swing those weapons?

By fullest potential I don’t mean creating a meta-dungeon build. Other poster said he/she didn’t miss those traits while leveling. I sure miss them. I miss the added dynamics those traits added to my gameplay. I like having those traits to make my toon’s potential even greater. At 40, my Mesmer could trait Deceptive Evasion to make shattering more exciting and faster paced. Without that trait until at least 60 now, my Mesmer’s potential dropped. That’s what I meant.

Why on earth any player should be so concerned about being at ‘maximum potential’ at just level 40 is beyond me. After all, it’s not like you’ll be that level for very long. It seriously does not take much time to get to 60, or even 80, for that matter.

And how difficult is it to adapt and play your 40 mesmer slightly differently because it’s not at your preset notion of ‘max potential’.

I can just see it…..“oh noes, it takes me 10:30 now to do the same dungeon post patch as it did to do it in 9:45 pre-patch….and it takes me 5 button mashes now instead of just 4 to drop an npc…….the horror!!!!!”……..

But hey, maybe all that is super important to you, I guess.

I think the new trait system is just fine, as it really doesn’t change one’s character’s abilities all that much. /shrug

Necro is the worst class in PVE right now.

No DPS, condi damage sucks

Also, I have to argue against this. I run with a lot of necros and they all seem to do as well as anyone else. Rangers on the other hand are actually refused in pve.

Rangers are one of the top classes in PvE because no one else can provide spotter and frost spirit, necro on the other hand offers absolutely nothing, everything a necro can do other classes can do significantly better.

Rangers have no reason to complain at all, if you think your ranger underperforms in PvE you are simply using it wrong, and that’s not a balance issue.

Obviously this is just your opinion, and not fact, as at least a few people here disagree with you. I would imagine that there are at least a few in game who also disagree with your opinion.

It’s all about if you have fun with your character and if you feel effective in the game.
Just because you think a class sucks or rocks doesn’t make it fact……just makes it your opinion.

Furocity= gear Re Roll

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Teon.5168

Teon.5168

I think it would be simpler if you just gave everyone 1 free gear reroll, with the stipulation that it would replace your highest end gear that you had. Although I am not sure how that could be done by Anet with out a lot of yahoos taking unfair advantage of it.

Other than my above suggestion, I really don’t have any problem with the ferocity trait, or the ‘nerf’ to crit damage, even though I will probably have to replace the gear on at least one of my 80s. Not a huge deal, imo, especially since the top gear is now account wide……so it is not a waste, as it can be used for another character, most likely.

Of course, none of that will please those min/max peeps who absolutely have to have the most perfect spec for their toon.

Why Punish grinders? What does Anet gain?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Teon.5168

Teon.5168

I see you still aren’t understanding the issue because you are looking at it from your own perspective.

Your server has a healthy population.

Most servers do not.

Healthy servers can do round the clock world bosses because they have enough people round the clock.

Small servers (the majority of them) can do only those world bosses that fall within the 1-2 hour window that has the peak population.

With the schedule and megaserver system, everyone has equal access to world bosses, so the number of players killing world bosses has the potential to increase overall.

Completely agree. I am on a lower pop server, and most of our guildies that like doing the boss trains seem to think like you do……has the potential to really kick the trains into overdrive, once they learn how to organize and deal with so many more people, and learn how to adapt to the schedules.

One thing that I did read on guild chat last night, and talked to my wife about, (who plays more pve and does some of the trains)……was that Anet was going to have to adjust the boss scaling some, as some of the bosses last night just dropped like a wet noodle with so many people on them.

This doesn’t seem to be the case in game with most of the people that I encounter and play with. Sure, there are some adjustments to be made, and some of the people in my guild are a bit unhappy about it, but they’re finding ways to make it work….or at least are trying to. Most of the consensus in game has been that lots of the patch will get adjusted as time progresses……but most people that I have interaction with in game like the patch for the most part.

Of course, that’s just my own in game experience.

Love seven of the eight professions that I play. I fully acknowledge that the reason that I don’t care for #8 is a failure of my play style, and not the profession itself (thief, in case you were wondering).

I am in agreement on that class. I played a thief until around level 25 a while back, and just never got into it much…..had everything to do with my playstyle and not the class.

Teon.5168

So Ive been gone for awhile. Like a year or so. I was looking at playing again. So I went on the forums for each of my classes that I play the most. Eng and Guardian. It seems everyone says they are now usesless….so I went to some other forums…everyone hates every class. Sounds like typical MMO stuff. So my question is.. are the classes that messed up or typical MMO banter.

I love my warrior, and my mesmer.

Well, since some of the class love is actually starting to be posted…….

I love my ranger, mesmer, and guardian. I also am developing a much stronger ‘bond’ for my upcoming ele, engineer, and warrior. Haven’t really tried a necro or thief much, yet.

All the classes that I am currently playing have their own particular strengths and weaknesses, which is what makes them so fun to play, imo. I am really glad that the new patch has added on the fly trait adjustments, as that allows even more and faster customization and experimentation. Been spending quite a bit of time lately in WvW, and my ranger is a kick there…..but am also looking forward to trying out my other big boys there. I also enjoy PvE a lot(also like the megaserver…there are a lot of real people in a lot of the lands, again!)…..have a wife that enjoys the game, and we are part of a really good guild that does lots of stuff together.

I consider myself a casual player…..I don’t have to be min/maxed to have fun….I can play my characters just fine whether they have basic, fine, rare, or exotic gear. Sure, I make lots of mistakes and die from time to time, but that’s all part of the fun. I might eventually get some ascended or legendary stuff, but that’s not very important to
me or the fun I have with my characters.

Sure, changes happen. Things/classes get buffed/nerfed/etc…….if you have played mmorpgs for any length of time whatsoever, you come to expect those types of changes to take place as you play……and you adapt as best you can.

When it gets to the point that the changes get to be too aggravating, and the fun quotient starts going down the tubes, no matter your playstyle, then it’s time to move on to a game that’ll bring that smile to your face again. I have done it with several mmorpgs that I used to love in the past………it’s not a very difficult and/or earth shattering experience.

That’s total BS…Used to be able to farm all world bosses within a 2.5 -3 hour timer range…Now its minimum of 8 hours to farm the same amount. Anet needs to fix this system or I and many other guild leaders who USED to run PVE trains will be leaving!!! I made jack and squat last night and sat around waiting for bosses to pop for way way too long. The game has now become a time sink if you actually want to do world meta events. ANET did this in order to sell more gems plain and simple but when you push away your loyal player base with idiotic changes such as this you are cutting your own greedy throats in the process!! A game I once loved to play is quickly becoming one I loath because of the failed and unnecessary changes…IF IT AINT BROKE DONT FIX IT numnuts!! -METLE

Right… YOU made less because YOU used to do it a lot. Meanwhile OTHERS have the potential to make more because OTHERS now have access that didn’t exist before.

Before, a small number of people did the world bosses often while a large number of people never did them at all (because they couldn’t).
After, a large number of people can do the world bosses while a small number of people can do them less often.

It’s a change that can benefit the entire game overall, at the expense of people like you. I know it sucks to be the guy who gets kicked, but it had to happen or else the server population distribution issue would kill the game and then we’d all be out.

Excellent point. So many here don’t even try to look at the big picture, much less outside their own little personal game bubble.

You have only been playing a month. It’s not hard to level, especially as you get further into the game, and the new trait system won’t change your leveling much, especially as you get higher. EVERYONE that rolls a new character or is new to the game is having to deal with it and ADAPT.

Be patient and give it some time……it’ll get easier as you understand the game better.

Best of luck!

It was nearly impossible before to make money and still a hard grind

I made a new account, so I had no money what so ever. 23 Levels later my character had 30g, without any luckdrops. 30 hours later this account had 100g on its bank.

And all I did was leveling that character.

GASP!!!! That can’t be possible!!!!!!

/sarcasm off

Stop complaining please!

Reddit is certainly more useful for constructive threads, rather than those who want to kneejerk panic about a patch just 6+ hours old.

Right, because making comments about a patch for a game on a site OTHER than the one from the company that actually makes the game just makes so much more sense.

Oh yea, guess you forgot about feedback.

You’re very naive if you think that Anet has the time or manpower to read the silly and absurd threads here. It’s certainly no more useful than reddit. Use feedback if you want the game company to actually have a chance of reading your complaints.

I am not real crazy about the daily changes, either. I imagine that will be changed down the road, as I can’t see a ton of people being really excited about it. But who, knows, I certainly could be wrong.

Not trying to be personally critical or anything like that……

But you do realize that most people here won’t even bother to read that huge wall of text you started out with, no matter what sorts of possibly valid points you might make.

Just sayin’…….

Megaserver update

Am seeing the results in several of the PvE areas now. Holy cow, I have never seen so many peeps in some of these areas. While I am sure that will cause some problems for a few, I, for one, am very enthused to see so many people in these areas now! Being on the Kaineng server, with our low pop, it’s great to be able to ramble around and see lots of people all over the place, now!

So far, I love the megaserver idea!

My newbie doubts, feedback and confusion

1. New Player Leveling

-Complete 2 1-15 maps
-Complete Personal story up to your level
-Complete 2 15-30 maps
-Complete Personal story up to your level
-Repeat

Alternate ways of “power leveling”
-Remember to craft (7 levels for getting to 400)
-When you get to level 30, try starting some dungeons

Level scaling
-It’s part of the game. You DO get stronger and the enemies will be easier to kill, but this is not a game where you will be able to steam roll any enemy because of your level.

Also, complete all the major cities, as in their waypoints, points of interest, and viewpoints…….you’ll have absolutely no threat to your character doing this(except for possibly falling off something), and will get around 2 levels just completing the major cities.

Best of luck and give it time, Leorion…….it will get easier and you’ll understand it all better the longer you play.

Glory Boosters gone...nothing in return

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Teon.5168

I had a huge stack of these as well. Anet should have converted them into a different boost like WvW or something. The fact that they didn’t is terrible customer service.

They said repeatedly to use them up as they are not replacing them. The fact that you are dumb enough not to read and heed what they said, is NOT their fault and does not make it bad customer service. It is YOUR FAULT ALONE.

Your whiteknighting logic is faulty.

Announcing that they are making a poor customer service decision does not remove the fact that it is a poor customer service decision.

How is it a poor customer service decision when they warned us all several times, and well in advance, about the change to glory? Just because you refuse to read any patch notes, or notes warning of coming changes does not mean it’s a poor customer service decision.

It’s noone’s fault except your own. Take some accountability and deal with your poor decision.

Not Just You / Adapt

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Teon.5168

Most people hate change. The human mind is naturally lazy. It looks for ways to save energy. So we fall into familiar patterns and we repeat stuff that comes easily. Not everybody but most people.

Many changes people rail about they often end up liking (or at least forgetting about) over the long term. Again, not everybody but most people.

Me, I like change. I like being forced to adapt. It’s one of the reasons I play MMOs.

I would bet that there’s a limit on what change you’re willing to accept. For example, you got hacked and lost everything that is important to you, you’re willing to accept that? Thus some change needs to be resisted.

I’ll play the same. But more for a bit, until I figure out how I want to spec every single alt. Kill me now. lol

LOL….I hear ya on that! My alts will definitely be getting some more time from me, due to the trait adjustments and such.

The overall dmg nerf is a lot bigger than 10%

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Teon.5168

You all do realize that this crit adjustment, or ‘nerf’ as a lot of you like to call it, is across the board, yes? It affects all players, so am not sure why this is a bad thing, where everyone else in the game is also having to deal with the crit adjustment.

What was the justification for this nerf?

I have one question for ANet… since it seems the devs are pushing everyone to TP flipping as the ONLY real source of in-game cash, who exactly is going to be out in the world actually collecting the stuff to sell?

Me… Playing the game as Intended.

I “play the game as intended” and I don’t get anything rare or worth much money outside of T5 and T6 mats. I think I’ve had 4 or 5 exotic weapons that were worth 1-5 gold drop and I’ve played for 760 hours.

The other night I did Jormag’s event and got 1 rare pistol, a green sword, a piece of leather, 1 blue helmet and 3 silver. Not exactly a treasure worthy of an event that takes nearly a half hour to complete, but I assume events like these are where people are supposed to “play as intended” and get their money and items.

Maybe your ‘luck’ isn’t very high, as I get quite a few decent exotic drops during an evening’s play. I have been averaging around 4-7 gold a week from drops and salvages, and I only play around 10-20 hours a week, depending on what else I have going on. My wife averages even more than that, as she plays a bit more than I do. But then again, my luck is well above 70%, and hers is close to that. Plus, I am also usually running some sort of consumable that also helps increase my ‘luck’. A high luck/magic find rating really helps what you get in drops over a few hours of playtime.

Maybe try salvaging more, as you get a lot of luck from doing that.

My Magic find is already 78 and I had a birthday booster and a omnomberry bar, in addition to a few guild boosts I got before the fight. So I had around 200+ magic find at the time. My gf usually plays with me and she gets even less than I do, although she did get an endless mystery quaggan tonic during the Lion’s Arch event, but other than that she has trouble getting anything of note as well.

Its RNG.

I am not sure how it could be due to a random number generator when both my wife and I get fairly consistent money most nights. We both did quite well on drops during the LA destruction/attack/scarlet ls.

I would think with your luck rating so high that you would do better with drops.

I really have no idea what it could be. /shrug

Maybe it has something to do with being on a lower pop server like where we are? If that’s the case, then the megaserver should diminish our weekly gold.
