What was the justification for this nerf?

I have one question for ANet… since it seems the devs are pushing everyone to TP flipping as the ONLY real source of in-game cash, who exactly is going to be out in the world actually collecting the stuff to sell?

Me… Playing the game as Intended.

I “play the game as intended” and I don’t get anything rare or worth much money outside of T5 and T6 mats. I think I’ve had 4 or 5 exotic weapons that were worth 1-5 gold drop and I’ve played for 760 hours.

The other night I did Jormag’s event and got 1 rare pistol, a green sword, a piece of leather, 1 blue helmet and 3 silver. Not exactly a treasure worthy of an event that takes nearly a half hour to complete, but I assume events like these are where people are supposed to “play as intended” and get their money and items.

Maybe your ‘luck’ isn’t very high, as I get quite a few decent exotic drops during an evening’s play. I have been averaging around 4-7 gold a week from drops and salvages, and I only play around 15-20 hours a week, depending on what else I have going on. My wife averages even more than that, as she plays a bit more than I do. But then again, my luck is well above 70%, and hers is close to that(and that luck/magic find rating is account wide). Plus, I am also usually running some sort of consumable that also helps increase my ‘luck’. A high luck/magic find rating really helps what you get in drops over a few hours of playtime.

To put it in context, I have 3 80s, and multiple lower toons, and I salvage nearly everything, except for the 30-40 silver armor and weapon drops. I usually also average some high silver salvages. Get 4-5 of those kinds of things, and you got yourself nearly 1.5 gold in one night. (Minus the cost of the master salvaging kits, and it probably works out to just over a gold….but my luck also increased during that salvaging, so that’s worth it)

Heck, just tonight, I got around 1.4 gold from drops/salavges….in around 4 hours of play in WvW. (A very good night for WvW, and not typical….higher level PvE usually nets a bit more in a similar amount of time, although I am also able to get some nice exotic drops on my lower toons, as well, due to my luck rating being so high)

Maybe try salvaging more, as you get a lot of luck from doing that. And make sure you’re using a master salvaging kit.

When I read about players not making much money off drops, I always wonder how much salvaging they do, and how high their luck rating is. When my luck rating was low, I didn’t get crap……but now that it’s into the high 70s, I never have much trouble getting good exotic drops to salvage and/or sell whole if they’re in the 30-40s range.

Of course, this all might change with the latest patch……will see after a few weeks, although it didn’t seem any different tonight…..maybe even a tad better than usual.

its only the vocal minority, everyone I have seen in game, including a max character limit guild all like the patch except for a few.

Unfortunately that minority is very vocal. I should have bought some stocks in Kleenex Tissues before the patch.

The minority in mmorpgs always whines the loudest when their particular mode of playing might be changed in even the smallest degree. They know nothing of what is called ‘adapting’.

It’s best just to laugh and grab some popcorn and watch the endless QQ by a mindless few.

QQ.
Just in case none of you realized, the trait system was changed for EVERYONE. We all have to get used to the new system.

Oh, but yes, you got nerfed beyond belief because you can’t figure it out.

NEWSFLASH: eveyone has to figure out the new trait system, as has to deal with it, same as you.

And qq about the supposed nerf. I have a 80 mesmer and they were a bit overpowered, especially in WvW. This is a no win situation for ANY mmorpg game company out there. Nerf a class, and they whine…….bring all the other classes up to be more even with that slightly overpowered class, and you’ll still whine about why you didn’t get any love like everyone else did.

Seen it thousands of times in other mmorpgs.

Seriously, what is so hard about adapting and figuring out a way to make your character just as effective, even with the nerf and/or powering up to other classes?

You all are seriously naive to think that this game wouldn’t have it’s share of nerfs/powering up like all the other mmorpgs out there have since mmos began.

Yea, I know, I will be labeled an ANet fanboi just because I disagree with you.

WvW game stability

Teon.5168

So, not being a computer expert, what can I do with my settings to limit these incidents? The disconnecting is so unpredictable that I don’t know how far to lower my settings to prevent these incidents because otherwise, the game works fine.

While I can normally run the game on much higher settings, I usually hit the escape button in game, go to options, graphics, then set it to Best Performance in the pull down box that is right above the individual graphic settings. That usually helps tons when you encounter the huge zergs. (I usually adjust a few of the settings up a bit after hitting the Best Performance, as that lowers the graphics alot….so I will kick a couple things up to make it look better, but still not lag horribly in zerg warfare)

And then when you get back into PvE, it’s real easy to hit the same pull down in the options and choose either AutoDetect or Best Appearance to kick your graphics back up again.

Good to know it wasn’t my internet connection last night. I haven’t experienced any probs in WvW(besides the very occasional lag here and there) until last night. Went to help with a huge battle outside SMC last night, and all of a sudden HUGE lag…..thought I was going link dead as my key mashes weren’t responding….and then all of a sudden they all go off and I am down with 10 enemies on top of me about 20 clicks from where I was…….was really bad. So I shut down and went and mowed the yard….when I came back around 10pm pacific time, everything seemed to be ok.

You two obviously don’t know a real mmorpg grind. This game doesn’t even have one anywhere close to some of the past mmorpgs I have played.
And the ascended “grind” doesn’t even have to be done except for those gear driven peeps that I already talked about.
Even so, the ascended grind here is much less than in other mmorpgs I have played for top gear…….you really have no idea( as ascended gear isn’t enough better than exotic to even justify any sort of grind except for the uber gear driven peeps)

If you’re a uber gear driven player, then I truly have no idea why you’re actually even playing this game.

And thanks, Khal and Dark, for proving the major point of my post.

Right.

Some players have had issues with this from the beginning. It’s a design decision that is one of the biggest ones Anet made with the game, but there will be players who do not like it — which is fine. But it’s by design this way, and intended to appeal to a different kind of player who doesn’t particularly like/care for the endgame gear treadmill approach that is common in other games.

Completely agree. You make an extremely valid point. So many of the people in this thread that have beefs against the game don’t realize that this game was meant NOT to be a cookie cutter mmorpg, where you grind for the best gear, stats, etc……it’s a game that is geared toward the player that is looking for something outside the box that is most mmorpgs out there. This game appeals to those that are sick of the grind, the death penalties, the need to play every day to keep your character up to par, the need to have set areas, with super defined goals, bosses, set times on pops, kill steals, loot steals, players being better just because they have unlimited time to spend in game.

While this game does reward some of those things, it is a world where you can make the game what you want it to be. You don’t have to follow the life story, you don’t have to do champion fights, you don’t have to do WvW or PvP. You can go along at your own pace and do the things that YOU feel like doing, and still get xp for doing it, without having to conform to the mass of mmo’s out there that basically force you to commit a huge time sink to the game just to become a below average player.

And that bugs the hell out of those hard core and gear/drop driven cookie cutter players who need a specific path to follow with their ultimate “permanent”, yet horribly dull game content.

I, for one, love this game because it, for the most part, does NOT cater to those types of players. It seems to cater, imo, to those players that want a game that they can play however/whenever they want, and STILL get xp and rewards for doing it their way. Heck with being shoved into some sort of cookie cutter role where you have to play the game a certain way to get any sort of decent rewards, and f*&% those youngsters that want to make this game into something it’s meant NOT to be.

I am sure I will tire of this game eventually…..I always do on any mmorpg eventually.
But for now, I LOVE this game because it is so different than any of the mundane, same old, same old mmorpgs that I have played in the near and very distant past. At least this game is DIFFERENT from those other boring, same old routine formulas that have been vomited out over the last couple decades with the imagination of a slug.

If you miss that old routine, that cookie cutter mmorpg, that same old grind that you have been used to that you so masochistically love, that “permanent” content that you so unwaveringly adore, then more power to you…..and find a different game, as this one is not geared toward you rock heads.

At least this game TRIES to make you think outside the box. This game is what you make of it…….and that is what I love about it. And, according to the success of this game atm, quite a few players seem to agree with me.

There are TONS of monthly subscription games out there that offer you that holy grail “permanent” content, that offer you that cookie cutter uber gear playing experience. So go play those games instead of being whiny cry babies about this game that doesn’t offer that sort of playstyle for you.

Let those of us who enjoy this game to no end enjoy this one game that tries to let players play the game however they want and still get xp and rewards without having to spend an obscene amount of time playing the game. Amazingly enough, there are lots of people out there that enjoy this type of game, AND have real lives, where they can’t commit endless hours sitting in front of a computer at a game mashing keys.

[Suggestion] My thoughts about WvW

in WvW

Teon.5168

I agree with making some of the towers and castles more upgradeable so as to make them a bit tougher to take if they’re upgraded to the max.

Other than that, I think WvW is quite good. As another person who posted here said, lots of people play WvW in lots of different ways, and the current WvW works pretty well in suiting all those different ways.

As far as a stronger death penalty……HUGE disagreement on that one. If anything, maybe a bigger financial penalty to repair gear(20%-40% more), but that’s all. When I played Dark Age of Camelot years ago, they had a ‘death shade’ thing that made you a tad weaker after a WvW death for a small amount of time. It didn’t keep you from jumping right back into the battle after porting back to your start point, but it did make you a bit weaker for a short period of time until the death shade timer completed…..that seemed to work ok, altho I really like GW2’s death penalty as is.

Keeping people from playing as a death penalty would be a disastrous idea, imo. I really think that would make quite a few people quit the game in frustration, as that kind of penalty is far too serious for a game. EQ death penalty was bad enough…..the OP’s idea would be far, far worse, imo.

Would it be so difficult to put a small patch in that would allow shards to be stacked 1000 to a slot, rather than just 250? That would make it a ton easier to hold onto the shards until the patch comes out that makes them exchangeable for something. Or would something like that potentially screw up all other stacks in inventory?

GW2’s timeframe for doing things has never been short – This is the first game I’ve played that was released under the mantra “we’ll release it when it’s done.” Now I’m sure many of you would argue that they released it far before they should have, but that’s another issue. Living Story was a huge gamble, and one that has never been done before in any other game. They’ve had this whole Scarlet thing planned out since the beginning of LS, and I’m sure they’ve had their feature outline more or less planned out all year, with a little room for adjustments. Player feedback has pushed some of the easier things to implement within their tight LS schedule, but some of the bigger things that needed changing have been pushed back until they’ve possibly been forgotten about, or possibly disregarded due to the effects of another update on the viability of the proposed change.

But now that LS Season 1 is over with, ArenaNet has given some time to look back and figure out what’s gone wrong. And I must say that, with the introduction of a lot of the systems they’re adding on April 15th, they show that they’re not afraid to make some pretty huge changes. […]

Nailed my opinion exactly, except that I am less optimistic. GW2 deserves credit for breaking the WoW clone cycle and establishing a casual MMO for many people. I’m just not into casual MMOs turns out, because they apparently lack depth were I seek it.

And what is that exactly? Raids, Trinity, I could go on? I am happy there are no Raids and no Trinity. I feel the game does have depth but you need to explore and look around to find it. The destruction of LA while egregious to some was actually a great way to shake people out of their comfort zones.

Completely agree, Dusty.

I’ve just logged my 1,000 hours in the game over 57- days, and I’d say it’s pretty good for the ~$120 I’ve spent on it thus far.

I am assuming you made a typo somewhere here in your numbers, as 1000 hours in 57 days works out to an average of 17.5 hours a day playing the game. If that’s true, when do you sleep, eat, and take care of biological functions?

I see all the complaints about new permanent content. You know what is funny. There are some in the community, I don’t have numbers and only know of the ones I talk to but with how large the community is I assume there is more, really enjoy the way the content is done. There is something going on all the time when the LS is going.

Some of the LS stuff I don’t like, some I do, but there is always something going on and it is fresh. They go in and add new permanent content and within a month it is stale and been done. That is what permanent content gives us, something to go stale. Then you know what happens, all of you that complain about wanting new permanent content come right back here and do it is again.

Now, don’t get me wrong. I would like to see new zones, some new dungeons that stay in game, but the point I made above is going to be the same. I hope they do add some permanent content in the second LS, I hope things change with the existing zones, but don’t say drop the LS, cause the moment they do that, then we have long periods with stale content while we wait.

So perfectly said. It happens all the times in mmorpg forums……people whine and moan about how it’s not the perfect game for them, and then stuff is added to a game that those same people asked for, and they’re immediately back on the forums whining about the stuff they asked for, and how god awful it is.

Thank goodness they’re not playing the game anymore, have left it behind, quit their belly aching, and moved on to games that appeal to them more………

Oh, wait………

That’s the reason why I’ve strated to think recently why GW3 would be great… with a sub fee, and I’m pretty sure that ANet or NCSoft stated they won’t consider another b2p/then f2p games in the future ( correct me if I’m wrong ).
I do understand that many of you dislike the idea, but tbh, a sub fee adds something that GW2 does not have – loads of new, permanent content, let’s say every 6-8 weeks.
Living story? Not really, at least not the way it is exectued in GW2, which is to say the least, ‘poorly executed’.
I’m ready to pay 15-20 dollars a month for a quality PERMANENT content every now and then.

Then go do it, since you seem to think that there are so many better monthly subscription games with glorious “permanent” content out there. I am bewildered why you continue to whine about GW2 here, when you have said many times how much better monthly fee based games are.

Reasons why Guild Wars 2 is awesome

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Three words: free to play.

That’s about it. Ive tried several other ftp mmos, but you are lvl capped, or have to pay to unlock content. Other than the first initial purchase, you can access all content without ever paying a dime. That and the art work. Simply breath taking.

Can’t believe I left that out! This is, indeed, the main reason I’ve stuck with this game. Monthy fees suck, and the fact that GW2 delivers such fantastic content without one is indeed amazing.

+100…..and all your other reasons, too!

Look me up and email me in game when you get there. (Teon.5168) I belong to a very fun and active guild(over 200 members) that does all sorts of guild activities on the weekends, as well as doing random events/dungeons/etc during the week.

Warrior/Mesmer combo will be a lot of fun for you two.

I look forward to seeing you in game!

I haven’t played GW2 for nearly a year now.

I thoroughly enjoyed most of the game; I have a couple 80’s and some fairly high PvP-rank characters. Very close to world completion, high level crafting skills, etc.

I decided to see how the game has come in the past months and fired it up again; after a large amount of patching, a good bit of nostalgia, and a couple of hours, I found myself in a state of déjà vu; I got that same feeling of “there’s really nothing to do” again.

How could this be? Months of content and patches being added but still there’s seemingly nothing to do.

Well, you are experiencing the same as every other person too. The game had a great start. So many things to do, so many details. But since then literally nothing has changed. We got one new PvE map, which is as boring as any other PvE map. We got one new WvW map which isn’t that overwhelming aswell. Sure, some nice gameplay elements have been added but you’re just doing what you’ve done before in normal WvW. Everything someone could have enjoyed has become boring and grindy.
Why are you running dungeons for the 300th time? Because the content is that nice or because you want the reward at the end? I know, it’s a pathetic question but that’s how it is. GuildWars 2 had a good start and, exept for QoL changes, no updates.
And the balancing is still a mess.

Unfortunately you’ve missed the living story but that was also hardly more than an achievement grind.

You cant’ really say literally nothing has changed and then start listing changes.

Plenty has changed. People who are gone for a year and come back are often lost in the number of changes.

It’s like when you live with someone and watch them grow, you don’t really see them growing, but then a relative comes over and says, omg look at how they’ve grown. There are tons of changes to this game…but not everyone has the same perspective about them.

Well said, Nage……and in a ton fewer words than I did……lol.

I initially purchased the game because some of my friends from another NCSoft title came here….and lasted about three months.
Why? Well…it wasn’t fun. It was too grindy. Plus, I still have a ju-on for NCSoft for killing a game I loved.

Since then, I’ve found another RPGMMO that requires a sub that is far superior to this game in every way, and I’m actually enjoying it. I can wander the game’s world and see something to do and go do it. The game play doesn’t seem grindy at all to me.

But, I doubt A-Net cares they’ve lost a customer, as they’ve gotten money from me for purchasing the game initially.

Grindy? You obviously haven’t played a few of the mmos that I have played, as the “grind” in this game is nearly non-existent compared to others in the past. In fact, I would call the grind in those games sheer torture compared to the ‘grind’ in this one.

But to each his own. Glad you found a game that you’re enjoying!

Temporary content isn’t the fault of the players who left, it’s the fault of the players who settled for less and continued to pay for it with cash.

Temporary content on any game is never a good idea, whole years of multiple mmo’s should have also taught you that as well with multiple zones in these virtual places becoming completely devoid of players.

Some of us have been playing since the betas and took time out after experiencing the early game on Beta Weekends to watch interviews with devs talking about what the game would become only to be disappointed at the sheer number of projects and promises dropped, changed, or paused over the course of the first year starting at right around the time that you began playing. So it’s understandable that you don’t really see the issues here because you didn’t experience the early game Teon.

Actually, I do understand your point. I have been playing mmorpgs long enough to know that devs always make promises in beta and/or at the start of a game…..it’s a given in just about any mmo out there. They are always supposed to put this grand, wonderful spin on the game to draw in interest/players…..some of the changes happen….a lot of them don’t. It’s the nature of the business.

I guess what I am trying to say is that I have experienced mmorpgs that put the same grand designs and ‘promises’ on a game in beta, only to fall far shorter than this game has, while charging a monthly fee. This game certainly wasn’t free, as I paid almost 60 bucks for each of the 2 copies I bought……..but the absence of the monthly fee is a huge plus to me……and I have enjoyed the content, temporary or otherwise, as it has been much better than the buggy and incomplete added content that I have experienced in other mmorpgs.

I can understand how it would be frustrating for some……that’s the reason you left. I have felt the same in the past with other mmorpgs I have played. I guess that as I have gotten older, I just don’t sweat the usual game hype and promises that always accompany a new game…….I have come to expect them,(and not be so naive as to believe most of the promises) as it’s a typical routine for most game companies.

Currently, I enjoy the game. Imo, I am getting really good bang for my buck at this point in time. That’s all that matters to me. The minute I quit enjoying the game on a consistent basis, I will move on to some other game, as I have done several times over the past couple decades+ of game playing, mmo and others…….it’s just not that huge a deal to me anymore. /shrug

My post was a rant? It wasn’t meant that way. I just tend to get long winded in some of my posts.

Sure, I can see your attempted relevance…I just don’t really agree with it much. Probably because of my own personal experiences with past mmos. There were several that I have played, and have taken extended breaks from, then come back, to not see much had changed, and I was still required to pay a monthly fee. So, I really don’t see the difference that you are seeing between a monthly subscription game and GW2. At least most of the ones that I have played. /shrug

And your one point…..
“Just to clarify You do realize GW2 as of today is almost no as it was at release.

You also realize that the amount of permanent content added in a years time is little to none."…….

Muddies more than clarifies anything. Those two sentences seem to contradict each other. At least that’s the way it reads, imo. And I have to chuckle about the ‘not much has changed’ comment……lol……yea, I have seen tons of people walk into Lion’s Arch after being away for a few months and say, “oh yea, looks just the same as last time I was here”…….lmao.

Also, whether it has been ‘permanent’ content or not…..there have been quite a few updates and content additions since release…..just because you were gone for a year and missed it doesn’t make it the game’s fault.

http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Release

And fwiw, I have been playing GW2 since a couple months after it’s initial release, but feel free to keep the condescending attitude coming, as it’s quite amusing.

I have to agree with Syrpharon…….one levels pretty quickly for any of this to be much more than a minor annoyance. Unless you have absolutely 0 patience, then I could see how what the OP said might bother a player.

I think most of the changes coming down the pipe look fairly interesting. Of course, I have a few concerns(mostly of the bug nature)…..but guess we will see what the patch is like when it gets here.

Nice! Thanks! One more thing… Is the mesmer too difficult? I mean, i think he is really awesome but he also looks really hard to master, would it be too hard for a first character?

Depends. If you have played other difficult characters in other mmos, then you probably wouldn’t have much trouble with it. I have played a mesmer for quite some time, and have gotten used to how to play it. I just started an elementalist, and actually find it more difficult to play, just because I am not used to the character.

I think it all comes down to how often you play the character, and how good you are at learning from your mistakes. And ya never know, you might just not enjoy the mesmer…….I find it to be a very fun character….challenging to play well.

Both my wife and I think that the Ranger is probably a very good and very fun first character……not too hard to play, and good versatility in WvW and PvE.

Still, I would not want to discourage you from trying any character for your first…..they all have different pros and cons…..if you two need any help, feel free to give me a holler in game…..I am on the Kaineng server.

What's the biggest mistake you've ever done?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

So far, my worst, and most amusing mistake…..was just the other night in WvW. I was claiming a tower late at night on my ranger, when a lone enemy waltzed up the stairs, and I engaged him. After a few seconds of trading blows/shots/etc., he knocked me back and stunned me….I broke the stun, and without thinking where I was on the small tower platform took my short bow and fired the shot that does an evade roll back when you shoot(can’t remember the name of the shot). Well, I rolled back and off the tower, tumbling over and over again down through the outer scaffolding that was against the tower…..with my character letting out ‘oofs’ all the way down. Fortunately, I had the mud special that breaks your fall, and I barely survived the 5+ story fall……lol. I laughed and laughed at what I had just done.(It doesn’t take much to amuse me….lol). After doing such a stupid thing…….fortunately, as I was falling, a small group of friendlies close by dusted the guy on top of the tower, and I still got some credit for the kill. I can just imagine what my enemy thought as I tumbled backwards off that tower(“what a moron!”) just before he got finished off by the small group of friendlies.

My wife got a good laugh out of it, too…..as she has done the same with her elementalist more than once….lol.

LOL… good one!

I had a similar experience in that my group and I took a tower, and at the last second of killing the champ, I used my sword “rush” skill (warrior), but since the champ had just died, I literally ran off the side of the tower to my death. I laughed, and a guildie was quick to point out he saw the whole thing I hope he had a good laugh too.

I’ve done that on my thief. I was using pistol/pistol a lot to spam skill 3 (unload). Switched to shortbow, hit skill 3 and leaped backwards off a cliff and died.

Yup….skill 3 on shortbow…….that would be it……lol.

Agree with Torsailr……all depends on how you spec/play them. But, just to answer your question, my wife and I play the game a lot together and find that a Guardian/Mesmer and a Ranger/Elementalist are two duos that work quite well. You can also switch those two, as a Ranger/Mesmer and a Guardian/Elementalist also work quite well.

It has been proven that sub games offer more bang for your buck.

In fairness Anet has to make a profit and GW2 is not free as many people keep trying to say.

In all fairness, if the NCSoft managers look at the numbers and are okay with it, they wont change anything which leads to no big changes in GW2.
If they however see that their profit is shrinking, they want to know what’s going on. If now the devs manage to convince the managers to spend more money on developing new content, we could get our big changes.

Good point. And I believe I remember reading something about Anet firing up the game in China…….if that has happened, then they won’t be losing money anytime soon.

Cheap much? Maybe you should buy two copies and support the game you enjoy playing.

Or maybe you should stop assuming things. I’ve been trying to see if it’s possible to do this, NOT because I’m a cheap freeloader, but because I’ve been sharing an account with my brother and we don’t want to lose our first, high level characters when I buy my own account… which I MOST DEFINITELY will do.

OR In that moment where you were thinking, heck, why not, lets just share this account…you SHOULD have been thinking, well if we’re both going to play this game, then we may as well buy a second account. However, I have no clue how cheap minds think. i’ve never been in that situation before.

‘’Hey bro, lets try this game out together first before we buy another copy.’’

‘’Ok lets do that. How about we play till 80 first and make sure we enjoy it? We very well could get bored after 60 levels’’

Idk if you think before you type, but you should probably start doing that. All of daddies money obviously doesnt buy you sense

All of “daddy’s money” is 0 dollars in total. All the money we had to buy a game is 70$ in total. So, unless you figure out how to turn 70 into 140, I think you shouldn’t jump to any conclusions.

Raz, I believe Margonite’s last sentence was directed toward Kryptonite, not you.

Rolled an engineer. Used crafting to level it from 0->80. Spent 100 laurels and 100 gold and 800 gems to get all its gear and make it look awesome. Then realized I don’t know how to play an engineer. I use it as a bank alternative right now….

Sorry but I might play a bit to try and finish WvW Season 2, but I no longer am addicted. Until they change a lot of stuff, I’m not going to drop another cent at this game.

How do you drop another cent on this game when there is no monthly fee?

You can moan in the forums as long as you want. If you want to hit them really hard, you just stop buying gems. I think lots of people used to do that and I think lots of those people will step away from buying any more stuff if they don’t make the game more thrilling.

That’s the point… Why am I dropping cash on a game that isn’t adding permanent new interesting stuff to the game? Why am I dropping 10+ a month if they almost didn’t add permanent stuff? Where is my money going? I don’t like how it’s turning, so no more gems for me.

It has been proven that sub games offer more bang for your buck.

In fairness Anet has to make a profit and GW2 is not free as many people keep trying to say.

But, The micro transaction model nickle and dimes each and every player if given the chance and the fanboi’s will tell you that you don’t have to spend a dime – but the honestly truth is YES people do have to spend money on the gem shop in order for GW2 to continue to be profitable and stay open.

It costs more for the above then a simple sub fee and you also get more with a sub fee.

Also, This next patch offers many changes but none of which is any type of content. The next time we see something will likely be after season 2 which is FAR FAR to long.

Seriously? Sub games offer more bang for the buck? Where is this supposed ‘proof’ of that claim that you speak of? In my own experiences, I have played several $12-15 monthly games that offer far less. And I know lots of people in game that exchange the gold they have earned in game for gems to get the ‘special’(it really isn’t that special) items, content, what have you without spending a dime of real cash. (Yup, they’re hard core players and play A LOT to get that kind of gold…..hard core players have always been rewarded in mmos)

Sure, there will always be people who buy gems with real game cash……and Anet has set that up to make more money…..they’re a business, after all…..they don’t charge a monthly fee….so of course they want a way to get more cash flow coming in. But it isn’t something that is mandatory for a player to have effective fun in the game, unless you’re some kind of gear freak/gotta have all the extra items-snazzies sort of player.

You must think you have to buy tons of gems with real cash to get anything out of the game, which just is not true.

And yea, there are probs with the game(ALL mmos have their own set of probs/bugs/etc), but over all, IMO, it’s still a ton of fun most of the time.

And yea, I have been on mmorpg forums long enough to know that disagreeing with the whiners labels me as a ‘fanboi’. So what?

It’s JUST a game. Not having to pay a monthly fee is a big deal to me, and I would imagine, a few other players. Buying gems with real money is a choice…..unlike the monthly fee that one is required to pay to play a lot of other mmorpgs.

If you have gotten tired of the game and don’t play, why not just find something else to have fun with, rather than wasting time posting about how awful the game is. Obviously the game wasn’t that bad if you’re still so emotionally attached to it that you feel the need to spew your grief over it all here…..lol.
