OPs post made me sad. Gotta play as much as possible while Alpine is here.
They will never get rid of Alpine. Assuming the vote stays as is it is most probable that there will be mixed BLs with 2 Alpine and 1 Desert.
This is the most laughable thing about all these ‘doom and gloom’, ‘the game is done’, ‘people are now going to leave in droves’ sorts of posts.
Somehow, so many of these complainers don’t seem to figure into their posts that ABLs aren’t going anywhere. They’ll still be here. Most likely, after the next poll, in some sort of mixed configuration with DBLS.
But no, they would rather resort to their ‘foot stomping tantrums’, because their exact way/opinion/whatever didn’t happen. So, again, rather than trying to adapt, playing the bls that they enjoy, while others(a vast majority according to the poll) play the bls that they enjoy. Nope, can’t have that…..gotta be my way or no way.
No matter, as the majority will get their wish. And even so, ABLS aren’t going anywhere.
If this causes some of you to leave, oh well. Better that we have a majority number of wvw’ers that are willing to adapt, accept some minor change to the bls, and continue on. That small number of people that leave over this will just go find another game and whine about how it isn’t perfect for them as well.
If nothing else, some of these absurd threads provide a lot of very, very silly and childish entertainment. Keep on foot stomping.

Ok here are the data we got: WWW was in a bad position before DBL, With DBL it went down the hill, Now after some improvements people came back but still there are problems with it.
‘Not WWW players’ stands there because there is no restriction for people who can troll the poll or mindlesly/ignorantly vote. If you are trying to enhance something, you need to do that with people who specialized on the thing; othervise you do a selection problem which is most of the time the predator of the study.Nice statement you got there but still not very decent, the people who read WWW forums may be the guys who like or interested in www however there can be other players who don’t really care about forums (which are not really taken seriously even from developers; check their usage of reddit) and pretty active at www. The best way is to implement an in game module to make the representative sample vote and take decisions on what they play.
Lastly, yea becoming psychologist require self analysis; when i look back and think about what I say, I still feel convinced about my statement. It does not mean you are right if you got the majority (which is created falsely/inadequately); it only gives you to power to pursue others to listen to you, i’ll see you after you’ll face with empty borderlands.

If you look at my history, I never advocated for the removal of the DBL. I was stomping for communications and testing.

At first I was convinced that everyone hated the DBL, and I didn’t really like it either. The revamp was great, but then so was Alpine returning. And Alpine is still better in my eyes, except the citadel which I really don’t know which sadist designed it.
Then I get comments from people missing the Desert Borderlands. They seemed to come out of the woodwork or something, because honestly if we needed in depth strategical defense of those things, we really could have used it sooner.
At this point, I don’t care anymore. All I know is regardless of which map you like, you better be playing on it regularly and not just queue for EB.
That’s why the next poll will be good. Hopefully the results of it will give us a mix of 2 abls and 1 dbl….or something along those lines. That sort of compromise would please the most people….those players that enjoy abls, those that enjoy dbls, and those that enjoy both.
Tongku… you said you played the revised version… but the wind knockdowns were removed except maybe for the ones right at the gates of the air keep… not sure what’s wrong with the portals… The barricades were removed, and the wp’s stopped being contested if you owned any of the keeps (unless under attack that is). It definitely does NOT take a “vast” amount of time to get from north to south compared to ABL regardless of which path you take, if you know the map. Truly if you actually played the revised DBL enough you would have seen it was much better than the original release.
I find it entertaining that so many of these dbl haters post on here that the poll is not valid, because it was skewed by those who truly don’t know wvw, blah, blah, blah.
And yet, when they go into detail on why they hate the dbls, it is obvious that THEY are the ones that don’t know wvw, as most of them don’t even know how to get around in the improved version of dbls, or they list problems with the map that no longer exist due to the improvements Anet made to it before it got yanked.

Ok another advice, make people vote only if they have some certain experience with www. I don’t want you force me to play at this map because you guys who only play few hours in a month want to. I only do roaming and roaming at DBL is like playing a walking simulator WITHOUT A VOICE OVER.

exactly I don’t pursue any of my opinions about pve since I know only pve players can understand pve issues and only you guys can experience these issues. I don’t come and force you to experience that misery with expressing my hollow opinion and trying to convince developers which are already have very few ideas about the situation (look at their last 4 changes haha)
look I’m a psychologist and when a patient comes with complaints about some drugs, I don’t express opinion even if I got a psychopharmachology lesson in both BA and MA; it is not my area, it is not my duty; being silent is much better if you don’t know any adequate information/knowledge about the issue; I refer them to a psychiatrist in order to not to interrupt or worsen the therapy.

That’s ok. I’m a much older game player, and I have a thick skin.
At this point in life, it is all just entertaining to me to see some people get so bent out of shape over a simple video game. I remember doing the same 20+ years ago when I was much younger, too.

Actually, if you look at the current poll, it doesn’t look like the dbls are going away. And Anet most likely already had a good idea from their own metrics/data as to how this poll would turn out. I think it was probably a fairly low risk poll for Anet. Just gives them ammo in the future if people scream about the dbls again…..they can point to the current poll.
But I can certainly understand your concern over the direction that Anet might be taking. Some days the ideas/patches look great….other days, not so much.

But, oh well. I am still truly happy for all 17 people that actually like it that are players. Gz! Hope changes are substantial enough to actually put people on them or you will fight the fortified gates alone….again.

I am jealous! I would love to get a PS4, but just for more games, and playing it on my large tv screen. I also play ESO and some other mmos……not because I think one or the other might fail……I just enjoy good games.
They all have their own pros and cons, including GW2.

Well, because Anet employees voted in the poll, that is most certainly why there is almost a 2-1 advantage to those that want to keep dbls.

EBG will always have queues, it’s the map pugs go to first to find action. Guilds go there to get fights around smc.
Alpines almost never have a queue over EBG (unless something special was happening like a major gvg or an attacking side is trying to hold a T3 keep), so why would you expect that for the desert bl?
haven’t had to wait more than 5 minutes on reset in EB since alpine came back on GoM. And when the commander / guilds decide to head to another BL there’s more than enough room on EB while the alpine BL’s have queues. I like the way it is now and dont want it to ever go back to the times when there’s 50+ queue for EB cause no one wants to play the DBL.
LOL. And what if you do see that? I, for one, will be waiting with anticipation to see what sort of dire consequences you have in mind with your motherly “I better not see that” threat.
Chances are, the dbls and abls will be in some sort of mixed configuration, so none of us really know what sort of participation there might be with a mixed bls sort of setup.

How so? I think it has more to do with the minority on this subject just being extremely loud and persistent.
I think this is because the people who play WvW the most disliked DBL the most. Of course people who love WvW are going to come in and voice their opinion the most.
BS. I, and lots of my friends play wvw a lot, and most of them liked dbls, if Anet continued with the tweaks they were making.

So you were playing the DBL after HoT came out? Were there a lot of people with you? What region/tier?
On my server in T3/4 NA it was truly a desert BL as in deserted of life. And people were going to EB explicitly stating that the reason was because of DBL.
The poll is to keep the DBL. Not whether you like it.
I voted to keep it even though I hate it. Why? Basically I’m willing to compromise:
- Because some people do like it and I can respect their opinion and don’t want to take away something they like.
- If we reject the DBL there is no hope that Anet will put more development into more maps for WvW.
- I can live with 2ABL/1DBL in WvW. I just pray that is what happens because if 3 months rotations win I’ll be stuck in EB for 3 months or just not play.
I was playing T8 and T2 with 2 accounts. T8 was deserted, but it was deserted everywhere. T2 was decent…..good amount of activity. More after they made the initial tweaks to dbls, which I am hoping they continue.
I too, am hoping for a 2abl/1dbl mix….I think that would be an excellent compromise. Your willingness to compromise shows that you see the larger picture/possible impacts….I truly respect that attitude.
Fwiw, I have been playing since a month after release(I am a casual, older player), although I didn’t go to wvw until I had gotten some characters to 80.
And yea, I also hope that we don’t get a quarterly rotation. That would suck, imo.
In the long run, it seems to me that we both want similar things for wvw.

Since ABL was re-implemented, activity has actually been dropping.
Sorry. ABL is not the reason activity spiked. If anything it is the reason the spike died.

We won’t be silenced permanently. Sorry to burst your bubble there, sir. I’ll rail against these maps for as long as I play this game. As for PvE-ers knowing better how to design and run a map than people who play WvW….. um, what? I mean, I’ve heard some stupid garbage here before, but that really tops it.
How, really… how do you explain the resurgence in population in WvW with ABL coming back? It wasn’t reward tracks. It wasn’t world linking. It was the return of a map that makes sense for WvW. If we have to have this fetid dusty crap back, I only hope it remains to one map…. so that I never have to go there.

I only like the dbls because I have gotten used to them, and I liked some of the tweaks they made. It’s a good bl for roamers and havoc squads, and it helps to break up the blobs. I think they need to still make more tweaks, like maybe make the center area more open for open field fights, while still having the outer areas good for roamers and havocs.
