Like most have said already, there should have been an option for no dessert borderlands. Most players i am around or talk to do not want them back. I felt i should leave a post saying this since no DBL’s was not an option.

Again, Anet stated that not having dbls at this moment in time was NOT on the table.
It might be in the future, but right now, that is not an option.

So, of the options available to you, would you rather have 3 months of abls and then 3 months of dbls, or a mixed bl, of 2 abls and 1 dbl? Seems to me like the latter option would cause a lot less overall grief for some players.

There was no option for no DBL at all because obviously scrapping it is not an option. Clearly there is sufficient interest in DBL.

I voted 2 alpine, 1 desert simply to minimize the damage that kitten map does to WvW.
If they had clearly stated they were willing to do a weekly rotation I would have voted for that, but 3 months of that terrible map would decimate the population just like it did last time.
I would rather permanently have 3 out of 4 maps be playable all the time and be stuck with 1 garbage map, rather than see another mass exodus because the queues make EBG impossible to get into and the deserted bl is all we have to play on.

This in no way means I prefer having 1 dbl.

Imo, 2 abls and 1 dbl is the best option they offered up right now. I bet you’ll be surprised at how many people(especially roamers and havoc squads) will play the 1 dbl. Besides the players that actually like the dbls, many players will use the dbls just to escape blob warfare, as there are quite a few out there that despise that mode of wvw.(IE, lower tiered servers that have been paired up with T1 and T2 servers. I know of quite a few on Kaineng alone that would jump at having a dbl map JUST to get away from blob mentality)

I bet you Alpine Only would be winning by a lot right now. I had to choose 2 Alpine 1 DBL because I had no better choice, much like so many others.

They have already said, atm, eliminating dbls is off the table. Might be on the table further down the road, but as of right now….nope.

And if they had added 2 more options to the exsiting poll, it would have diluted the poll so much that I imagine they wouldn’t have had anything more than 30-35% for any one option.

Despite what people claim on these forums as being the absolute truth, there were/are players that like dbls, especially after the few changes they made to them.

It is funny how so many forget about all the complaints about abls when they were the only bl. Dbls would have never been made had not so many here been so vocal in their whines about abls awhile back.

I remember, as I was one with some whines about abls. I’ll admit that I was surprised that they decided to make dbls….and I wasn’t happy about them at first. But after I got used to them, and Anet took down some of the barriers, I really got to like them for the potential strategy they provided.

Every game I’ve ever played people log these same complaints. Then the games last another 5-10 years. People get bored and move on. Keeping things the same aren’t going to change them, reverting back to an old version won’t bring them back. Player churn is factored into how companies like anet operate. They don’t have to make you happy if they can make 2 newer players who aren’t burned out happy.

I really have to agree with this. GW2 is going on 4 years now, and that is OLD for any mmorpg. Player turnover is always a factor with a game this old…..as you said….people get bored, burnt out, looking for something new, etc…..

I think that GW2 will most likely last at least another 5 years. Things will change, wvw will inevitably fluctuate as old players leave, new players come in, and vets continue on.
This is a similar sort of cycle that most mmoprgs go through as they age. Doesn’t mean they’re dying……just is constant change and adaptation to fluctuating playerbase numbers on Anet’s part.

3-5 years from now, a lot of us will be playing some new mmoprg with wild pvp/wvw, a great graphics engine, and whining about all the problems with it whilst fondly remembering this game, I bet.

Ok, the entire premise of this thread is asking to make improvements to the engine, professions and add better features to wvw…

Those three are extremely common and valid request.

How much PvE development has gone on over the years compared to pvp stuff?

A very much anticipated pvp game will come out and make a dent into wvw here, so Anet needs to be aware of that. So do players. There will be guild from here bailing out of wvw in its current form because it doesn’t have any staying and holding power. So instead of just LS, LS, PvE tailored xpac, LS, LS, PvE tailored xpac, LS, LS, LS… How about the devs invest a bit more into WvW, take a harder look at professions and really dig into the engine stuff a bit more at some point?…

I mean are any of these unreasonable? Dot you all want pvp related stuff improved? Or should we just not care that in a year or so pvp might be a ghost ship?

Never said I didn’t want to see the game grow. Would love to see that. And yes, you’re correct….PvE has gotten the much larger bulk of the attention than has wvw. Heck, we all wondered if Anet was even paying attention to WvW for a couple years considering that they rarely posted about it for so long.

I would love to see Anet execute some of your ideas about stuff that needs to be worked on and improved. My last response to Hesacon was basically just agreeing with the statements about turnover, game age, and that sort of thing.

I would love to see continued effort in improving this game. And I have been very encouraged of late with all the wvw communication. I am sure they realize that they’ll have some tough competition coming down the pipe in the near and distant future.

But, eventually(hopefully later than sooner), this game and its wvw, pvp, pve will turn into a ghost ship as it grows really long in the tooth.

Personally, I hope that happens a long ways down the road……I still enjoy this game too much….would love to see GW2 remain healthy for at least another 5 years.

Heck, even Dark Age of Camelot is still up and running, and it’s 15, 16 years old, now? Unless Anet really screws up, I could easily see GW2 lasting another 8 or so years.

I think this would be a very good idea to launch a WvW map design competition.
Interested players can prepare their own design WvW map and send it to Anet by either softcopy or hardcopy. Then, anet make a website showing all these drawing and let players vote for the winner. The winner would got e.g. 1000 usd and some small gift for the participants. Lastly, anet’s design team can follow the design drawing and finsh the remaining works.

It would be a better way than waste lots of money ,time and manpower to create a map like desert bl which hated by every gw2 wvw players.

By the way, it also works for the black lion weapon and armor skin…….

@Lil devils, Yes I am well aware of the flaws that the dbl has. I have been quite vocal about it ingame and on the forums. If I had it my way we would just have alpine until a better map can come along. HOWEVER, the reality is getting rid of it is not a choice for the poll, therefore I would rather be realistic. It certainly could be possible that your opinion on the fixes that you think they need to make might be in the minority, and not what most of the playerbase actually wants.

DID you miss the numbers after Hot and the months upon months of the game hemorrhaging players all the while them telling Anet in the forums it was due to the DBLS? I didn’t.. I talked many into coming back. Did it occur to you we had a poll about this too? We are not talking about a small number of players that left over the DBLs in the first place.

The numbers they posted in these very forums repeatedly showed that 1) EBG outnumbered all 3 DBLs combined in most every tier. 2) Alpine outnumbered EBG .. so what does that tell us? ALSO the number of guilds and players that left WvW over The DBLS was no small number, if they want those players to stay and continue to come back and grow, they cannot reverse the progress on that.

In fact, why not just make a poll asking how many want to scrap vs keep the DBL and you will find out pretty fast how this works..

you got 5 guys in a room maybe more maybe less maybe one is transgender and the rest is female, who knows however, they have to make a decision that will affect. how we as WvW players enjoy our game, maybe they made a few bad decisions before.

ACTUALLY, they are polling again ( like they used to) because players called them out on it. ( Those negative Nancies!) They are actually 100% fully are aware of these things.. it has been discussed at length.

Anet actually used polls to create GW2, and in those polls they told us that we asked for large scale PvP combat and they told us that they heard us and were giving it to us! At the same time, in fact the very same post on the same day that was asking them to go back to their roots and start polling again like they used to was the same post that asked them to only bring back Alpine ( immediately and not wait as they had originally intended) WHILE they made another map that had nothing to do with DBLs .. All of those things were in the same post and thread on the subject. We got the polling, we got the alpine.. but where is the map actually designed for PvP combat..?

Agreed. The problems with this game are numerous, people leave for all sorts of different reasons. One of the things that I rarely see brought up about this game is its sheer age. That, too, is a reason for the playerbase numbers changing.

The above being said, I still enjoy the game a lot.

That new map is supposedly going to be part of an upcoming poll so they can focus on what to prioritize. I would think if it wins out that it will come out with the next expac that is currently being worked on.

That would certainly seem logical. What with the attention they have been paying lately to WvW, I have faith that we’ll get plenty of details on any new sorts of wvw lands, if they decide to continue in that direction.

imbalance more like Challenge!!! I’m from BG if we are out numbered or out maneuvered or a there’s a unfair gameplay advantage then its just more fun for us.

I like the way you think. Agreed…..it would be a challenge, not an imbalance, if players chose to approach it that way.

And I am paired with one of the servers fighting you in wvw, atm. But I do agree…..nothing like a good, challenging fight.

My main is a ranger, and they’re a lot of fun in pve. That being said, I think I would recommend the engineer, just for its versatility.

Warrior would probably have the highest dps, but imo, gets boring to play.

Because you can’t transfer to ANY host. If you transfer to a guest you may end up back where you started when worlds are re-linked and it cost you gems to do it….. The suggestion might work if there was open host servers….

Alt accounts are great, until they end up in the same tier as mine are…..

If that happens, I will either just enjoy it, or move my second account to another small server with a small transfer cost. Since it is not my main account, I don’t really care what server it is on. It just serves as an account that offers some sort of change of pace from my main account.

The thing with 2v1ing a server is that in a way it’s rewarding them. Why provide entertainment for those who so poorly decided to stack things absurdly out of proportion? Let them sit idle with nothing to do. Let them wait in queues. Let them run across the map in order to flip the one camp that isn’t green. Make it as boring as possible until the players quit. It’s not even a fairweather thing. It’s a form of punishment for the bandwagon mindless blobs who aren’t even interested in the fights. They don’t deserve a 2v1.

Instead, continue the fight between YB and TC. So far it’s been good stuff.

You certainly have some very valid points. And yes, the fights between YB and TC have been good.

I don’t know….I am kind of looking forward to different pairings. Keeps wvw fresh, and allows me to meet more people on different servers. Kaineng has been very lucky in their first pairing with TC, as TC has been very friendly, for the most part. At the same time, I am looking forward to the variety that I might experience with a new pairing.

And even now, I certainly don’t consider Kaineng to be an orphan. I still have good friends on Kaineng and in my guild, and that won’t change with the pairings. Of course, unlike others, ‘server loyalty’ has never been a high priority to me. Guild loyalty is my high priority.

Have her join Kaineng, if you want to stay on TC, as they are currently paired. The linking of the servers for wvw has basically made for one world(two servers) for each ‘server’ in each wvw matchup. That pairing might change every 3 months, so by having your gf go to Kaineng to get into the TC/K pairing…..well that pairing might change in a couple months.

You would both be better off moving to one of the lower populated servers together, then, even when the pairings are changed, you would still be on the same server for wvw. Also, keep in mind that the desert borderlands are going to be rotated in for the alpine borderlands, as well. (Supposedly ever 3 months)

Kaineng, Borliss, Ferguson’s Crossing, Sorrow’s Furnace……they all are pretty nice servers with good people. If you move to Kaineng and need a friendly guild(no rep required) that does a bit of everything, give me a holler in game and I can get one of our guild leaders to send you and your gf an invite.

Roaming is still doable on servers that are paired up with T1 servers, but it is easier on those servers that are paired up with T3 or T4 servers. If you really want to do a lot of roaming, I would suggest Borliss, FC, or SF. (Only reason I am not suggesting any other low paired servers is because I don’t have any experience with them)

I am currently on Sorrow’s Furnace with my second account, and it is quite good for roaming. Hardly any queues, too.

I know BG population and coverage are hard to deal with, but morale is the biggest thing that affects servers. If players want to play for second or roll over and go do something else, there’s nothing Anet can do about that, that’s a player problem.

Other reason BG has massive numbers still is because their morale is high so all their pugs and hibernators are coming out to play, meanwhile the other two servers go in hiding because it’s the easiest way to deal with it for them… then run in here and blame anet.

70 man blobs can’t be everywhere, learn to deal with that. The two weaker servers need to stop hitting each other because it’s “easier”, use better map politics and learn to frustrate those blobs.

Completely agree. The majority of the blame lies with the playerbase. Part of it is due to the staleness of the matchup, and part of it is due to YB and TC not teaming up together to fight BG. Have seen his sort of thing happen on other servers, in other matchups. After a few weeks of no battles, the top server will even begin to lose numbers, as people lose interest as the fights become even more lopsided and pointless.

And maybe this is what Anet was hoping for. This will certainly change server numbers in the long run and redistribute players some. Hopefully it will also change the upcoming matchups and pairings.

Also, the lopsided fights this weekend might have something to do with the US holiday. Lot of players probably not even near their computers this weekend.

This first linking is supposed to last 3 months. After that, not sure.
But the linking has been made permamnent, per the poll, and Anet’s announcement after the poll was closed, so your number 2 question is a moot point.

And when I say that the linking is permanent…..I mean the linking itself, not that the pairings will be permanent. Pairings will change some over time.

I hear ya. Another week on T1 against the incredibly overstacked server that is BG. Don’t get me wrong…..the fights the first few weeks were awesome. And there have been some since then. But recently, I see less YB and TC action. BG is just rolling everything.

Funny, but it reminds me of T8, just exponentially less player numbers. 1 server horribly outnumbering the other two.

It might eventually even out over time, it might not. Biggest problem for me is I am just longing for different matchups, as this one is getting really stale.

Fortunately, I have a second account that I can retreat to, on an entirely different server, and matchup.

I don’t know how to fix it all…..maybe increase precursor drops and high end drops for the horribly outnumbered servers in matchups?? Might that possibly fight stacking?

I don’t know. I am still enjoying wvw……but the blob stuff is getting old……a little bit of that goes a really long ways.

And go ahead and laugh and burn me…..I still love wvw after the linking……but it needs a lot of tweaking and work, still.

Easy. People who are not in game or playing WvW because they don’t like the current linking system cannot vote.

Plus, I honestly don’t care if it’s what the vast majority wants. Is it honestly what this has to come down to? Ignore the minority voices, give the majority what they want- history alone will tell you that isn’t conducive to positive change. In any case, just because the majority wants something that I don’t doesn’t mean I won’t speak up about it. I can try, right? If things turn out the way I don’t prefer it to, my world isn’t going to end. But my WvW community has become important to me through time, so yeah, I’ll put in my two cents as long as the topic is open for discussion (which it still is).

Last I checked when the poll was still open, anyone who had a game account and logged into these forums could vote on it. So the people who didn’t get ingame emails could still vote. I did before I got my ingame email. Heck, even someone who had a game account and hadn’t played in a couple years or more could log in here and vote in the poll. Not sure how you can claim that people “cannot vote”.

But, that is a moot point now.

The poll is over and linking is part of the game, now. Nothing anyone can do about it.

And am glad the world linking was resoundingly approved and a permanent part of the game, now. Sadly, we’ll probably lose some players, but the majority wanted it(cheers!), so that is a good thing! Looking forward to you guys adjusting it and tweaking it some more.
Now we can move on to the other issues and features that you’re thinking of improving and adding to wvw.

It’s good to see you put an idea to the community to see what the response is like. You and your team seem to have given us more communication and progress in the last six weeks than we’ve had for years – literally. I can’t imagine anyone who is not enthused by this.

BUT I’ve just got in from work, done the RL stuff I have to do and read your post here. Within 21 hours of putting the idea up you’ve decided that you’ve had enough feedback. Some of us haven’t had a chance to respond yet. Was this issue so in need of a rapid response that you couldn’t let it run into the weekend? If so then please state this in the original post next time. If there’s no rush please give the players who are away for a day, or working longer shifts, time to respond.

Just in case you do read this, here’s my thoughts.
IIRC the idea you posted was to make more smaller servers so you could link several together in different combinations as an easier way to address overall population numbers and to give more variety.
I’m beginning to think you’re unaware of the problems caused by shuffling “servers” around – it plays hell with the actual community feeling that makes a server what it is.
I have no problems with new servers, and would consider moving to one but it depends on what you plan to do with them. I have zero interest in being on a pinball server passed from match to match each week with no chance to build teamwork or cohesion between allies.

You do realize that when Tyler first started this thread, he said in his thread title, and therefore this discussion was just hypothetical, yes?

This is not something they’re planning on doing…..Tyler just threw his comments/ideas out there to see what sort of overall responses he got based on those hypothetical comments.

That’s just good dev communication with the playerbase, imo. Just bouncing some ideas off the playerbase to measure what sort of reaction they get.

I play a rev sometimes in wvw, and I would sure like to know how I can spam unlimited boons. Must be some super secret special button that I haven’t seen, yet.

I’m not certain why you can’t take 15 people and go do stuff on any of the T1 servers. You should be able to be perfectly useful and productive with 15 folks. But, it might take a mindset change to accomplish it, as that number no longer represents the bulk of your army. You’ll have to play the ninja instead of the brigade.

Speaking as someone who plays on BG, queues aren’t a problem right now. Plenty of people to play with and against, and you’ll see a queue sometimes, but it goes by quickly unless you’re dead-set on getting into one particular map.

I like the linkage system but understand it may be disruptive to server identity. If there were a way to solve that issue … server linking certainly gives Anet a way to use our server-stacking tendencies against us in a mostly healthy way. Perhaps if we ditched the idea of “host” and “guest” servers but kept the functionality?

You can. I was just out the other night in T1, solo roaming, and running with some small(3-5 players) pug havoc squads. It is very doable. Just have to be careful.
