Thanks, Hazy.
Yea, SF/NS was a nice change from the blob war that is T1. And yes, you’re absolutely correct….I was actually able to do some solo roaming today. It was nice meeting up with small squads and helping them out. Certainly won’t get me off of T1 with my main account, but it is certainly a pleasant and welcomed change at times.

Reason I went there, is I had transferred to Northern Shiverpeaks last year for a short while, and they seemed to be a nice bunch. It is a fun change of pace.

What server are people even getting regular 40 man queues on every map on? The only ones I can even think of pulling constant queues on are TC and BG. Every other server is significantly smaller. JQ, for instance, only pulls queues on reset and sometimes weekend nights.

TC isn’t getting those kinds of queues. I know, I play on Kaineng. Most of that queue nonsense is just that. People pulling numbers out of their nether regions.

There are queues on TC on every map on reset night for a few hours, but that is it. After reset, maybe one or two maps might have queues. But certainly nothing close to the “all maps at least 40 queued” garbage being spewed by some here on the forums.

You are an American fighting Germany

BOOM………suddenly USA is gone………….and so is Germany

I just love it when people seriously try to compare real life historical events with a video game, especially one based on fantasy.

Nothing makes me laugh harder.

Thanks for the post and being able to go both T1 and T4 is a nice mix.

I think that’s one of the reasons I favor PPT and PPK combos for scoring. Successful higher population servers will gain more from large scale fights and therefore encourage blobbing. More successful lower population servers score more PPT by knowing how to work in smaller groups. Favoring either PPK or PPT more and you start to remove those advantages from one side or the other.

Wasn’t Anet talking about making ppk more influential in the new scoring system? If so, that would certainly encourage more of the blob warfare, I would think.

And yea, I enjoy having 2 accounts……gives me more opportunities to experience different servers/wvw/etc……

Yea, I believe the quarterly schedule on server pairings is more for Anet to analyze the data, make changes, prep changes, etc…..

Ideally, I would like to see the pairings change about every month, if they keep this system after beta.

So, I have two accounts, and decided to try one of the T4 server matchups compared to where I currently am on my main account(Kaineng with TC). Just wanted to see if there was much of a difference between the two, so transferred my second account to Sorrow’s Furnace(paired with Northern Shiverpeaks).

Ran out last night and gave SF/NS a try. First off, no queues. Second, was much more like Kaineng wvw used to be a year or so ago when we were still very active in wvw. Third, the scores seemed to be a lot closer, although it is early in the week, and that, of course, could change.

I ran with a zerg of around 20 or so players, as well as a couple pug havoc groups of around 5 players or so. The zerg was much more interested in taking towers and supply camps…..much less of the open field blob warfare that is prevalent on T1. We did encounter one blob of around 40 players, and engaged it a few times, getting steam rolled a couple of times, and nicely splitting them and escaping intact a couple other times. The havoc groups were pretty successful in doing their job on the edges, while steering clear of the one blob. Also had several small open field fights in the havoc groups, which was a lot of fun, as it required me to be a better player than when I am running along in ‘blob mentality’….lol.

Biggest thing I noticed is that it all seemed more strategic, much less of the blob descending on another blob and just mindlessly going at it. Don’t get me wrong, as the blob warfare can be quite fun for awhile……but it was a really nice break getting into a wvw server where everything was more strategic with defenses, tower and supply camp takes, etc….

Anyways, not encouraging anyone to transfer, just wanted to try out another matchup and see what the differences were like. Having the luxury of a second account gives me the ability to play 2 distinctly different styles of wvw, which is very enjoyable. I believe both styles serve their purpose, just was interesting to see such a noticeable difference between T1 and T4. T1 is just complete craziness most of the time, while T4 reminds me more of what my lower tiered server used to be like in wvw.

All this talk about about 100 person queues is complete BS. Reset night tonight on T1, and nothing was larger than 50.

Of course, the queue was bugged, as well. But last week on T1 at reset time, it was the same.(without the queue bug) Maybe they’re getting 100 person queues on Euro Gw2, but it is not happening in NA, despite what some might want you to think.

Queue bug for T1 tonight

in WvW

Posted by: Teon.5168

Teon.5168

Seems to be a queue bug for Kaineng players wanting to get into EB tonight. Me and a guildy both queued up, got down to 2, then got invited in, accepted, and the queue kicked us back to the start (around 50). Also talked to another Kaineng person in map chat who had the very same thing happen to them.

Anyone else experience this?

Seems to be a bug, Anet. Didn’t have this problem last week at reset.

Great fight also last night at SMC between TC & BG & DB……actually, more than one fight….it just kept going and going and going…….lots of fun!!!!

Giving all us lower tiered servers that are paired up with them a really good taste of T1 wvw life.

I was just going to mention that. The fights on EBG last night were awesome. Sometimes our group won [TC] and other times BG would pounce all over us. Back and forth, DB coming in at different times. The end in the Lord’s room that lasted for at least 30 minutes if not longer was epic. It didn’t feel like anyone was a super skilled fight group, the numbers weren’t always even yet tactics were used to narrow the gap. Great time.

Aye!!! That Lord’s Room fight was truly epic! Great times!!!

Hopefully, us Kainengites were a help and not a hindrance to TC. I saw quite a few guildies and Kaineng people out there last night. Good to see.

Numerous times I have stated that I’m glad to be paired up with Kaineng. Ran with more than a few of your commanders in the last week. Awesome people, very hilarious.

BG and DB have also said more than once they like people who actually fight too. So there is that.

Good to read that we’re being represented well. And yea, we have some very good commanders that are fun to run with. I have seen a couple return after a long absence due to the wvw patch.

And most of the people I have run with from TC have been very nice and patient.

Thanks for the nice words, and yea, we tend to like to fight in wvw…..so many of us that I know of are so delirious and giddy with all the action…..lol.

What's with the running away?

in WvW

Wanted to share this memory (because that’s what we older folk do).

Just after the server linking old friend and I were in Air Keep trying to defend against a sea of more red names than we’d ever seen before. The outer gates melted (6 rams) then inner (just as quickly) and we retreated to two ACs in the Lords room to do what we could.

And we waited. And waited. Max even went to look for them – they were all standing around outside.

One attacker dodged in, and dodged out. Several seconds later another did the same. then two players cautiously poked their heads in…
By this time we’re killing ourselves with laughter on TS. Having come from a small server where you need to flip stuff as fast as 2 people can (swords attract a player or two to defend) it was comical to see so many players seemingly so scared of us. It could have been because Max plays a kitten HUGE Charr (seriously!), or maybe our guild had a more fierce reputation than we thought…

Needless to say, when they were convinced it wasn’t a trap about 50 people filled the room and neither of us lasted very long.

As I was told by a veteran player – The only way to avoid dying in WvW is to not log in. Live with it.

LOL!!!! Great post!

From personal experience, it seems that alot of the existing acheivements kind of fell by the wayside when they lowered the requirements. One could argue that some shouldn’t have been lowered so much. But, since they were, new achievements to reignite things that that we each did (for mostly selfish reasons) but still overall helped our servers, such as yak-scorting, isn’t a bad idea to peak more intrest.

Yea, there was a time when you got aps in wvw like crazy. It was nice, but I am somewhat happy with the current system in wvw, with maybe a few more tweaks. It will be interesting to see what the points adjustment that Anet has been talking about for wvw will be like when it goes active.

I’m no expert of game design, but my empirical observation was the hard fought captures on Alpine Borderlands and EBG could get quite awesome. I have many fond memories of such instance, but literally 0 on the DBLs.

I have had a few good large battles in the middle area of the dbls a few times when I was on FA. Some good memories. But, yea, many more good memories in the abls.

But, then again, the dbls were only 6 months old, whereas the abls are what? Close to 3 years old? With that kind of time difference, I should have a lot more good memories on abls.

I typically roam or small group it up in wvw. What is with 90% of engagements in wvw ending up in opponents running for their life as soon as they get low on HP? Even numbers, outnumbered, etc. It’s ok to die…..

Is it a generation thing? Do us older players that grew up playing Ninja Gaiden or landing the plane in Top Gun accept that games can sometimes be hard and you lose and younger gamers need that instant gratification easy mode? I base that purely on having interns at my work play these stupid games on their phone and saying “oh i need to buy coins to make the game go faster so I can win faster” WHAT!?!?!

I guess it’s sorta ruining the roaming experience for me personally. I get a good fight and as soon as they are low “see ya!” or I get rage whisper “condi expletive” or “zerker expletive”. Appears no matter what gear or build you run you are a “blank expletive”. I guess I like fighting till the end and seeing just how far you can make it outnumbered or experiencing what I did wrong in a fight.

I’m in my 30s…please help this broken hip old man understand gaming today

You’re old? You’re only in your 30s??? Man, I really feel like an old fart, now….I am 57 and still playing these stupid games.

And yea, it is fine to die…….certainly a lot different than dying in something like Everquest and having to run all the way back out to your death site to recover your gear and points……blech….hated those older mmorpgs with the horrid death penalties.

I hurt my back the other day and it made me feel 85? Sorry sir, didn’t mean to offend

I guess I’d like to see more fighting than running away, just seems strange.

You didn’t offend me at all. I got a really good chuckle out of your post.

And there in lies a problem you might have missed: 2 or more low tier servers might match up population-wise with a t1/t2 server, but you will likely lack any sort of coordination, and sort of solidarity to be of any threat to the top tiers.

And that is where any point you might have been hoping to make with lower tiered servers just went down the toilet.

That unintentional or intentional elitist attitude that automatically thinks that low tiered = low skilled.

I’m from Kaineng, like Teon, and I’m seeing a different thing.

My roaming guild no longer wants to roam. While they liked the occasional fight and trying to evade the zergs, they are primarily PvE players. I’m the only one with a WvW rank over 300. But they did like WvW for that balance between PvE and PvP, and the feeling of ‘guerrilla warfare’ that was had by being able to scout out and pick the fights. Now, we try and scout, and pick a target, and get run over by one of 4 zergs in our own borderland.

This week against Blackgate has completely turned them off the mode. They have no desire to ever go back in with the current populations. Add in the hate that BG has for TC (for some stupid political reasons we in TACO know nothing about nor care, all of us work, and have real lives to deal with, we don’t live in WvW like some of these folks), and the essential 2v1 we’ve had all week, it’s not fun.

If they are going to continue with these server links, then T1 and T2 don’t really need to be linked, and the rest of us smaller servers could be, so we can have our style of WvW back, but still see a decent population.

Yea, some of the roamers have taken a real hit, while others have just upped their numbers some. (not possible with some of the smaller roaming guilds from Kaineng) I still see roamers, but they’re different than what they were on Kaineng. I also think that once the dbls start rotating back in, there will be more roamers, again. Those maps were better suited for roaming squads.

And I agree on the Tier 1 and 2 idea. I posted awhile back that I agreed with another poster who didn’t think tier 1 and tier 2 really needed to be merged with anyone.

Not sure if it is possible for Anet to do it, but I would like to see mergers tried along these lines:

Leave Tier 1 and Tier 2 alone.
Merge Tier 3 with Tier 8
Merge Tier 4 with Tier 7
Merge Tier 5 with Tier 6

And change the pairings every 2 weeks or every month…….not once every 3 months.

WvW has been a bit crazy this week…..lots of hugely outnumbered scenarios. I wish the pairing up would change a bit sooner just to see if it was any different.

Also, Kylden, look at it this way……this is the worst it will ever be. We’re paired up with a tier 1 server going against other tier 1 heavyweights. The numbers won’t get any worse than they have been this week.

Now, are there actually more players in WvW? Or, since they decreased available space by half, is it the doubling of population density that gives a player the perspective that WvW population has actually increased? I have a feeling this WvW Beta has had a net zero effect on the actual WvW population.

There certainly are many more players in wvw than there used to be on Kaineng, a low tiered server. Does that mean there are more net players on wvw, or is it just being paired with TC??? I imagine it is mostly being paired with TC and some due to returning players.

At the same time, I have seen some Kaineng wvw players that have been gone from the game for awhile, that are now back playing wvw. So it has brought some players back.

Is there a net increase? The only ones who know that are Anet.

Like I said before…..I will put up with queues to see more action in wvw. I would much rather have queues and activity, than no queues and very little action in wvw(what is was like in Kaineng before the patch)

But, that is just my opinion. I know that there are also a few on the lower tiered servers that wish to have it back the way it was.

“Beta” in WvW means 99.9% this is going to be the permanent mergers.

I think a lot of the stuff we’re currently seeing in wvw will stay, but probably with some major tweaking. I seriously doubt if the server pairings will stay the same, as Anet said themselves that they will be changing. But yea, I think the pairings in general(with whomever) are something that won’t be going away. Which doesn’t bother me at all, as I am enjoying the increase in numbers of players in wvw.

I will gladly put up with queues if it means more people in wvw.

I really like the HoT zones. Some very challenging pve areas, as many have said. You can’t run around on autopilot in HoT like you can in most of normal pve……makes for much more interesting exploring, imo. And there are good drops and rewards to be had in HoT.

And the raptors are nothing, once you get used to them. The very worst thing you can do is run from them, as then they normally kill you, unless you have a good head start and some speed. As others have said, they don’t have many hp, and they’re very vulnerable to aoe of any sort. Turn, face them, and take them down in a matter of a few seconds…..they’re truly that simple, once you get used to how they attack.

They wilt like wimpy flowers under arrow barrage from my Ranger. I don’t even like pulling them singly anymore…..I like to see them all come as a group, then I wipe most of them with barrage, and take out the last couple stragglers with my pet and either my lb or gs, although I can usually just dodge and watch my pet munch on the last couple.

First problem I see is that you think server pride is a real thing. Anet reserves the right to shut down any server they want at any time – you better get used to having more of a guild pride or something like that because the server system as we knew has changed and will continue to change. I’ve transferred servers more times that I can even remember at this point, its been at least 16 times between my 2 accounts, I have no “server pride” because it is hard to be “proud” of a server who lost all of its people and dropped to being one of the lowest ranked servers lol.

Like someone else above said, it sounds like you just enjoyed the PvDoor and now you can’t do that – sorry for your loss.

Agreed. While I understand people who want to hang on to ‘server pride’, at this point I feel that it is a lost cause, especially for the lower tiered servers. Doesn’t mean I won’t still try to help my server, but my pride and loyalty is with the guild I have been with for 2+ years.

I haven’t had the problems with our server pairing (Kaineng with TC) as others in this thread have. Yea, there are blobs, but you can still roam….just got to be more careful. I also haven’t seen this ‘attitude’ of the larger servers that some have talked about. I am sure it exists with some brat kiddies out there, but I haven’t seen it yet in our pairing. People, for the most part, have been very nice and civil.

I just had an ah-ha moment. I may be repeating some things that have already been stated so I apologize in advance.

In wvw we have ppt and fights. some players may like the fights more, others like getting the ppt more. I personally like the ppt because I want to win, lol! Others I know really enjoy the large fights/battles.

What if there was a choice in wvw to play for ppt or to play for fights? Maybe it is like someone stated earlier in this thread, we need to rethink the ppt scoring/winning system.

I was talking with another player today and he said many of their ppt guilds had left the server so now the guilds that were left were focusing mainly on the fights and not worrying so much about the ppt.

I would still like to have our FC server back but if linking is put in place permanently then something more needs to change.

This linking has churned up a lot of feelings, positive and negative. I can feel the stress and strain from the other players. Maybe I am projecting but I don’t think so, not entirely.

I would be interested to know what players enjoy the most. Capturing and holding objectives in wvw or fighting the zergs. I know I enjoy both but play mostly for ppt because I want to win.

Maybe this is the wrong thread for this topic. I am just trying to find a solution so everyone can be happy again. Me included, lol!

Keep posting everyone and be sure to vote in the upcoming poll on linking.

I enjoy both, although the ppt system at least needs some tweaking. While I really enjoy big fights, and smaller open field fights, too…..there is nothing like a good castle/tower takeover or defense. I love those! But something needs to be done to the ppt system to give players more reason to defend. I personally really liked DaoC’s system, with the relics and such, and points going toward more than just the wvw world. There was nothing like hearing the “call to arms” shout in DaoC, which meant every able body was needed in wvw/rvr to help defend the relic and such.

The pairing up of servers is a step in the right direction, imo, as it puts more players in wvw, and gives more action out there to those that wanted it. But the pairings, and how they’re determined, do need to be tweaked some.

Overall, I like the direction that wvw is headed, and I am hoping that Anet makes more good decisions during this beta to further improve this game mode.

I also wanted to make a remark about TC. I know lots of people who seem to have a hatred for that server, and this new patch is my first experience with them. Maybe we were just in a really good zerg last night…..wish I could remember the person who was driving the zerg…….but they were the nicest bunch of people…constantly shouting out thanks for scouting reports, sieges, etc., in chat…..just a very appreciative group……was good to see. I have had no problems with Kaineng’s pairing with TC, so far.

I’m on TC, and I had a blast on TCBL last night. A ton of great fights brought right to the doorstep. BG and DB came out of the gate gunning, and caught us with our pants down a bit, but…. we kinda needed that as a wakeup call. We’re going to have a challenge on our hands for the first time in a long time. I look forward to it, it’s the most fun I’ve had in this game in a full year, if not longer. Now it’s time to cowboy up, get back to the basics, adapt, and come back out swinging. What’s not to love?

I have to agree. Kaineng is paired up with TC, and there were some great fights last night. Wife and I had a blast in EB.

Wife and I normally don’t have lag, but got into one large fight on EB last night, and she had terrible lag, and I also had some stutter lag, as well……went away in a few minutes……but don’t usually experience that during large fights. Rest of the night was fine.

Just copy the regular GW2 icon, then rename the copy of the shortcut GW2 Repair(or whatever you want), then click on properties and add -repair at the end of the command line after the quotations….

The command line should look something like this(unless you have the game installed elsewhere)

“C:\Program Files (x86)\Guild Wars 2\Gw2-64.exe”-repair

And a fun night on TC/Kaineng on EB tonight. Wife went with me to EB tonight, and she had a blast, too. Bit of a good sized queue to wait through(a bit over an hour, which is not bad for reset night), but we just did other things in game until we made it in. Some huge open field fights, heavily outnumbered at times, died a lot, but still had an absolute blast!!!!!!

Was fun representing our Kaineng guild in an action filled EB, for a change. Made us both feel really good!

Yea, they have it at a pretty good cap right now….full battlefield in EB tonight, and just a bit of lag here and there……any larger numbers out there and it would get really bad.

This is also a good link:

Looks like fight activity has increased by around 43% across the board, which is not surprising, imo. Will be interesting to see how it all plays out in the next few weeks.

World Linking Feedback [merged]

I understand that some people will not enjoy the higher populations, but the reality is, it is the only way to legitimately fix the population balances, and that is, by trying to get everyone as close to “Cap” population in WvW as possible. If the Maps are Full, then everyone has even numbers, and it never ends up with a 5 vs 42 match up, which anyone on the mid and lower servers knows can happen.

So this was the way they could resolve the issue, by capping the maps. If you can think of another way to balance out the population to eliminate lop-sided match-ups, I am sure Anet would love to hear it.

But as it stands, the direction they took, was to try and fill the maps, so that everyone would have roughly the same number of people on the field. It does remove the issues of being overrun by a higher population server, which has been a major negative issue for WvW for a long time.

I fully understand that there will be issues of “us/them” in the game, after all, it was a link, not a merger, and maybe that will be for the best,so that they can mix things up a bit as time goes on and that it does not feel like a merger, but a rotating link.

Where, perhaps, next week, it can be Ferguson’s Crossing/Northern Shiverpeaks, facing Darkhaven/Sorrows Furnace or some such.

There is much the future might bring, and I for one, hope it is all good things.

Completely agree.

Also, per the original post, I suggest offering feedback on the World Linking Beta thread, and I hope we all continue to provide observations as the beta progresses. Don’t be discouraged, and let your voice be heard!

So once again, speaking from my home on Kaineng, I don’t think Anet should scrap the linking concept (I do think that low population taken to an extreme is an issue), but instead unlink us from the top tier servers, who do not need the extra population. A re-linking that does not include T1 & 2 would bring more population on the low tiers, more diversity in playstyle, and more freedom to move and find the playstyle that pleases you (low tier players/guilds can always move up to T1 and 2 and often do so, but we need to be able to make this choice).

The final problem which remains is server identity of the ‘guest’ servers, and this needs to be addressed at all tiers and no matter which direction the beta takes.

Thanks for posting Smashie.

Nanesh
[Owls] Owl Legion
Kaineng

I am not sure if I posted it in this thread, or another, but yea, I do agree that tier 1 & 2 really don’t need to be grouped with anyone else, as their populations in wvw are just fine. Sure, the added pop and battles are fun, but it makes more sense to do something like(as someone else has already suggested)

tier 3 with tier 8
tier 4 with tier 7
tier 5 with tier 6

On the subject of ‘server identity’, am not sure how that could be accomplished. I had more server loyalty before the pve megaserver, but after that my loyalty was all about my guild(which was greater than my server loyalty was even before the megaserver).

I think the whole server identity and loyalty thing will be more up to those from that server. As you had mentioned in the past to me, Nanesh…..you were wanting to rebuild the Kaineng wvw presence after most of our main wvw guilds left. I admire that, and I think it will come down to something like that, from the actual wvw’ers on Kaineng to rebuild the server wvw identity, rather than something Anet might or might not be able to do. And it also comes down to the number of Kaineng wvw’ers that actually feel server identity is something important and something that needs to be preserved. As I said, for me it is all about my guild. At this point in time, server identity is not terribly important to me, and I am sure that I am not alone in that sort of thinking.
(That attitude probably comes from playing DaoC for many years, where eventually all the servers were put into megaserver sorts of arrangements, so guild pride and identity were the only important things left that had any meaning)

Even with the pairups, I don’t think it is an impossibility to have a server identity within that pairing, or other pairings. Either through server specific TS channels, or organized wvw raids, or whatever.

Possibly something simple that Anet could do would be to add a different color(or an added label that could be toggled on/off) to character names for those on the same server…..that would at least identify those from similar servers, and might help the server unity that you and others are seeking. Although something like that might also add to the potential divisiveness between servers, which would not be a good thing.

As I said before, my loyalty is with my guild, which is mostly Kaineng based(but we have members from other servers, too). I tend to jump around between groups out there in wvw, and am always looking for my fellow guildies that might also be out there.

I wish you the best of luck with the rebuilding of a Kaineng wvw identity, and hopefully I will see you out there soon, as I would love to join up with whatever group you might be running, if I can ever figure out what sort of build I want to run on my Rev out there…..lol.

Are there maybe any things you could “achieve” or farm in WvW like you can in pvp/pve and would be an interesting goal to play WvW for?

Anet has added some nice, pvp style reward tracks to the characters for wvw. Makes wvw much more rewarding than it used to be. Am not sure if you need the HoT expansion to access these reward tracks. (I already have HoT, so no idea if they exist for a non-HoT account)

I don’t think you could do a wvw megaserver that would be playable. There are already a lot of players complaining about wvw lag on here(and I do it read it in game, as well) and a megaserver for wvw would just send lag off the charts for a lot of players.

If there was a way to do it without making lag worse, then I might be interested in the idea.
