Mmo players with a screw loose vs mmo players with two screws loose. All very important stuff.

YOU JUST TOOK THE VERY LAST BIT OF PROGRESS OUT OF THE GAME THAT WAS LEFT…. and i dont know if you realize that anet. You are promoting your game as a “big living world full of dynamic events” and you are basically taking it away from the new players…
Its okay giving it to the players who alredy have an lvl 80 character, but giving it to the new players ???So because you bought the expansion you get to automatically skip everything and become max level instead of having to work for it and put the time into doing it yourself…What is this WoW now ?? What a better way to throw the entire world you created in the garbage. Why would I leave LA now except for guild missions??
It removes the entirety of what GW2 is.. exploration and discovery.I just feel that i have nothing in this game, untill now i was like “okay i have level 80 i accomplished something in this game”… cant say that after this patch anymore…
I cared about this game but im not going to anymore… im sick of watching stupid decisions pass in anet like that… im a little sad about this cause gw2 was my fav game. R.I.P.
Buhbye. Can I have your stuff?
(edited by Teon.5168)
So now a new player can join the game, use this boost and get instantly to level 80.
On top of that, it also gives you a complete set of soldiers armor, weapons, trinkets, food items, utility items, and unlocks certain waypoints in every level 80 map?
This is just… what?!
Don’t get me wrong, I like the new shared slot, but what’s the point of even playing the game if you’re instantly given everything you need? Doesn’t that just inherently defeat the purpose of playing the maps and lower-level content? Is Anet that desperate for new players? Please help me understand, because I’m so lost on this one.
Grow up and get over it. If you want this older mmorpg to keep surviving, Anet has to do stuff like this to draw in new players and old players that quit. The 80 level didn’t give them ascended or legendary, it didn’t give them aps, it didn’t give them a pvp rank or wvw rank……there is LOTS of stuff they will still need to grind.
I hear so often on these boards and ingame how easy it is to get to 80. Then, when 80 is given to peeps with some gear, wps, and such, suddenly the waambulance appears and screams how unfair it is.
Give me a break. It is NOT a gamebreaker. And if it is for you, then you shouldn’t be playing a mmorpg.
As happy as I am about the patch, I can’t help but feel after so much hard work and labor we’ve gone through, it’s now just being handed out to everyone on a silver platter. So much gold, gems, time spent and now it’s being given out for free. Thanks though?
I don’t understand what you think is so unfair. We got a free shared slot and we got a free level 80 booster along with some minor goodies. It’s not like they’ve given all HoT purchasers a free precursor or something. The freebies are nice, but they’re hardly game-breaking.
Completely agree. But there will always be players that whine about others not having to do what they did.
This is the nature of the beast. Older mmorpgs have to do this to stay relevant.

I don’t agree. Older mmorpgs(3+years) have to do this sort of thing to keep new players interested. I think the new level 80 thing is impressive, and a very, very smart move on Anet’s part.
Who cares if those of us who started at ground zero didn’t get it. You want to keep more players coming into the game, don’t you? If not, then the game’s life is shortened and you won’t get to play it as long.
This patch sure makes sense to me. The 80 level thing was needed, imo, if it draws in some new blood., or pulls back some players who left.
Well done, Anet.
(edited by Teon.5168)
Gotta like what I am seeing in the wvw patch notes. Thanks, Anet!!!!
Why do people always assume that patches should always be bug free? There are many factors influencing your issue. There are MORE people coming back to a game mode. That means more connections, that means more server load. They are also tweaking WvW to get ready for the beta roll out Friday which you can rest assured will be chaotic. But, this is for progress. Isn’t that what everyone wanted? Don’t bite at them BECAUSE they’re trying to DO what players have been asking for for ages now.
Agreed. Good to see some actual positive changes(imo) coming to wvw. Personally, I can’t wait for reset, even with all the glitches and bugs that will inevitably follow.
Nooooooo Teon! Who will I roam with after this week if you leave?
If I would have known you’d leave I’d have not said anything…
No worries, Kylden! I am still in RaW, and my second account, Cadman.2640, is still on Kaineng wvw. I have an 80 Mesmer on that account that I use for helping my wife get dailies in Kaineng wvw, and I will be checking in on Kaineng wvw with him quite often. If you’re needing some help out in wvw some night, just holler at me in guild chat and I will bring my mesmer on to come out and help ya.
I will make sure this evening that my second account is in Taco, too.
FA Welcomes you with open arms.
Thanks! That is the main thing that always stuck with me about FA…..bunch of really friendly people.
all T2 bullkittenters asking you to transfer now wow… not one of you is saying just wait and see if your server gets merged with another and avoid fees.
That’s possible, but also this player played with my guild on FA before and had a great time last time so it is natural for him to reach out and specifically name FA since he knows people there.
Exactly. Last time I was on FA, even though it has been awhile, I had a great time with Chaba’s friendly, crazy bunch. Easier to transfer to a server where one has had good experiences before.
I also agree with Thelgar’s post…..FA seemed like a very upbeat server while I was there.
Just natural that I would gravitate toward FA, what with my past good experiences there.
(edited by Teon.5168)
Yea, read that thread, and was thinking of FA, as I have been there before…been awhile….but it was a fairly friendly bunch
Well, looks like Kaineng has finally completely died, WvW wise. I have been through a few transfers, and came back to my home server, hoping to help out. I was just told tonight that we just lost our last 2 wvw guilds, so we’re now down to pretty much nothing, and having problems mounting any sort of anything in wvw. It is frustrating, to say the least.
So, I don’t want to go to Tier 1. Tier 2 -Tier 4 would be fine. I have been on NSP and FA before….and both were fun.
Any suggestions for NA servers for WvW? At this point, I am willing to do anything….blobs, roamers, havoc…..anything……just as long as I can have some fun in wvw. I am tired of just doing pve.
Thanks for any help!
Am a long time, casual, older player, looking for a NSP wvw guild. Already have a good pve guild. Looking for a decent, friendly wvw guild that doesn’t require 100% rep.
(I will, of course, rep while I am in wvw)

Thanks!
You mean RvR is dead becuse there no other rvr game type out there other then GW2 WvW and that not surprising becuse RvR never last all that long at high number in NA. Its just not a game type that has a long life becuse it going to burn ppl out becuse of the 24/7 game play.
daoc is a clear example that this kind of gameplay can live over 10 years with monthly subs if you do it properly.
That good at all but daoc never was that big and it needed that sub fee to keep going with its pop. At the same time daoc was in a different gaming time where rvr was a comply new thing and with out other pure pvp games out there it has no real composition for both game type and from other pvp like mmorpg games. Times are very different now something like daoc (the old one) would never make it becuse its way too much time investment to have the number of ppl to keep it going.
The truth of things is its worth a lot more money to keep these games going (mmorpg) you need a good size pop to make it worth making/keeping it running. RvR at least pure rvr games do not have that power any more (all though they never realy did in NA its just not a popular game type).
Let me clear things up for you seeing as how you are … uninformed.
- DAoC is still running, it’s older then WoW. I know its hard to believe but there were MMO’s before WoW.
- In that era all MMO’s were sub based.
- It did not lose players because of the game mode type, it lost players when they introduced ToA (PvE end game) and silly gear options that became a treadmill in them selves.
- A large portion of GW2 WvW players came from DAoC because … it’s a popular mode.
- Pure PvP games did exist, as a matter of fact I’ll point you in the direction once again of DAoC and the server named Mordred. I won’t bother mentioning UO because it might be before your time but that my friend was true hardcore PvP, if you died you lost pretty much everything.
- You are correct that it’s a different era and people do have different expectations of MMO’s but assuming that WvW or RvR or AvA is not a popular mode is just your opinion and I would venture to say it is wrong, take a look at CU it was kick started by gamers donating funds and they quickly reached their goal. This shows that there is numerous people both NA and EU that want this type of game mode. Even WvW’s starting population throughout the first 1.5 years is a good example of how popular the mode is.
I spent years playing DAoC and I will be the first to admit they had their fair share of errors and mistakes, the game was not perfect by any means, with that said 15 years is nothing to scoff at so clearly that mode still has a market.
You are entitled to your opinion but I completely disagree that its a case of the mode not being popular, it is however a case of neglect and poor design choices and that is Anets burden to carry. They failed their WvW community in so many ways and they failed themselves imho. They don’t seem to be in any rush to fix their downward spiraling mistakes which just leads me to believe they will continue to fail and once they kill off WvW permanently those failures will start to spill over to PvP (it already has started) and PvE.
They need to set aside those enormous ego’s and humble themselves, though I fear it’s to little to late.
Completely agree about DaoC. The ONLY reason DaoC is still running is due to its really good RvR. ToA tried to kill the game, and almost did……RvR is the reason DaoC is still around. I also agree with you, that when it is done right, WvW/RvR is a very popular mode of gaming with the mmo crowd. DaoC proved that.
(edited by Teon.5168)

Using the word ‘properly’ in bringing up DaoC RvR is a rather loose use of that term, but yea, I do agree with you…..they did a much better job of it than GW2
Are you running the new 64 bit client? That is supposed to solve some of the crashing problems.
So I was going back through some of the links that Phantom had posted, as I had not read them all……and the one with the crude sketch as to how wvw should be laid out caught my eye the most. While the drawing might be crude, it is very accurate in general placement of things that encourage battles, defenses, etc.
So I went and looked at a picture of the current borderlands. I have to say, it is a real head scratcher. Has the person/people who designed the new borderlands ever even played good wvw before? The placement of the major structures doesn’t make much sense, whatsoever. Scouts will be pretty much completely useless, as there are so many different ways to get around structures and areas where scouts might position themselves. Supply camps are like little defense points of their own, since they are now located even further out from anything. And because of all the different routes that exist, people aren’t funneled into each other……very few actual choke points, or specific ways to get to keeps and towers. The land is so massive in area, that it is really difficult to spot enemies for fights.
And maybe the new bls are what Anet interpreted players to be wanting from feeedback on these forums and elsewhere. I really don’t know.
In any case, from a pure wvw sense, the new borderlands just don’t seem to make a great deal of practical sense, imo. It is like Anet had this beautiful vision of what the lands should LOOK like, that they gave absolutely no thought as to how different servers would be channeled toward each other, either via pathways or structures, to encourage fights/battles/etc.
Right now, it just looks pretty, with very little practical use.
Hopefully that will change as people get through HoT and return to populate some of these new borderlands. Right now, I just don’t see that happening. Hopefully, I am wrong, and as people get used to how the bls work(myself included), they’ll become more popular.
(edited by Teon.5168)
Last night I actually stumbled upon an enemy havoc group attacking one of our keeps in their borderlands. No seriously…..I am not lying!!
I was so shocked to see anyone there that I just stood there as the 5 of them jumped me and killed me in seconds flat.
But, lying there dead, I still smiled just seeing that there were others out there. First havoc group I have seen since I started exploring the bls. That makes probably around 10 people total I have seen out there…..and I am on T4 wvw. No problem on EB….tons of action there…..but man, the bls are a dusty, near ghost town.
Except that the major reason the border is a failure is because it actively discourages small groups. Everything thats been changed about WvW has made blobbing the most viable option and reduced the importance of small scale, roaming and scouting
How so? It might be helpful if you offered some perspective as to how you come to that conclusion.
1) Owning camps has been devalued. Taking camps that supply enemy objectives only slows the upgrade process, it doesn’t halt it. In addition, because upgrading no longer requires supply, and +5 isn’t generally available anymore, much more supply is lying around inside objectives than there used to be. So starving an objective of supply is more difficult. Supply starvation used to be a role of small groups.
2) The increase in supply cost of guild siege means you need more people to build the same amount of siege.
3) Not being able to carry 20 supply also means you need more people for siege building and/or it takes much longer.
4) Auto-upgrades mean in many situations, objectives have stronger walls/gates than before
5) Fortified gates take a very long time to break down with less than 3 superior rams.
There are more reasons, that’s a handful of the obvious ones.
Seems like Anet has purposefully made it much more difficult for havoc groups to function in the new bls. That just makes absolutely no sense to me whatsoever, as small havoc groups are one of the more entertaining things to do in wvw, imo. I love running with a good havoc group, and I know quite a few other wvw players who do, too.
Anyone else feel like the HoT and the huge loss of WvW player base is something like DaOC when they released ToA and that lost a lot of RvR players
Its feels like a coincidence between HoT and ToA. Also given that Anet hired employers from DaOC
DaOC never recovered after losing so many players.
That’s a good point. I was a long time DaoC player, and when ToA was released, forcing the RvR player to pve in group events to get a better skill, weapon, or whatever for RvR…..the game lost A LOT of its playerbase, and never did recover. Wvw players, for the most part, do not seem to like pve much. And most seem to hate being forced into it in new wvw maps. (And that is certainly just my opinion. I don’t presume to know how every wvw player out there feels about pve)
I don’t know if it is coincidence, or planned, or whatever. I think the new bl maps for GW2 are just beautiful. But they don’t work for wvw. Brings too much pve sort of stuff into the equation, and the long distances between points is great for the pve player, but for the wvw player that wants to get into the action quickly…..it just becomes a tedious borefest trying to find fights.
I have been out there several times, now…..and it is extremely tough to find fights. Everyone has migrated back to EB, as it is much more entertaining for the average wvw player.
And yea, the bls might get better as more people progress through HoT and get their elite stuff set up. But they might not. At this point in time, the new bls just seem to be a complete waste to most of the wvw community, imo. Maybe looked like a good idea on paper, and the artwork is just wonderful……but the current bls just do not seem to be conducive to good wvw action.
I hope it doesn’t result in the same exodus from the game that ToA caused for DaoC.
It might still be too early after the release of the expansion to make that sort of judgement. The bls might still change in population and action in a few more weeks……it is just that right now, it doesn’t look very good, imo.

Looking for a friendly wvw Northern Shiverpeaks guild. Just transferred from Kaineng, as wvw there is an absolute ghost town.
Have 80s of all types, casual player that enjoys wvw, 218 rank in wvw and 7k ap if that matters at all. Just looking to play some wvw with some fun people.
Email me ingame if you are looking for recruits.
Thanks!
Vocal minority who want it harder???
Totally untrue. And here’s why:
People are far, far more likely to post when they’re frustrated or angry than if they’re bored or feeling lackluster.
- For each person who posts screaming that things are too hard there are only ten more who don’t make the effort to post.
- But for each person who posts asking for things to be more complex and challenging there are hundreds who just shrugged their shoulders and wandered off to do something else because they were bored.
- For every complaint you hear about there are ten more you don’t.
- For every customer who says your performance was “good” there are a thousand more who don’t say it.
- For every person who takes the time to tell you you’re doing great there are about fifty more who are silent, but hopefully will tip!I’d say 99 of 100 people who want more content that requires people to work together do NOT say anything. They just get bored with running around solo and turn the game off.
About half of the people who think things are too hard come to the forums and complain.
Besides the obvious “out of thin air”, can you tell me how you arrived at this hypothesis? What sort of hard data do you base it on? What sort of actual percentages of the player base, and other crucial numerical factors makes you arrive at your “truth”?
If it is just your opinion, as I assume it is….that’s fine. But don’t state it like it is some sort of obvious fact that was arrived at by looking at hard numbers and stats.
Stating your opinion like that doesn’t change the fact that it is still, JUST your opinion.
Carry on.
Those people should not be playing a game if they barely have time for anything
Personal life problems of some people should never have any kind of impact on things like this, and it’s a shame cause most of the people who are also enjoying the expansion are playing the game or using their time with other important things, instead of flooding the forums and reddit with whining.Nice, having a job and a family is now considered a personal life problem
You do a very good job showing Bryce’s point.
I too, got a chuckle out of that post. The term “clueless” comes to mind.
Complete rubbish. My first character/main had 213 after Map Completion and thats with maxing everything. at 250 he could have Druid almost immediately. An Elite spec, unlocked, 20 minutes into the release of the new content. thats bullkitten, thats too easy. it should be HARD. you shouldnt come out the gate at 90%. 250 HP to an elite is too easy and I hate that its to easy. Its not special anymore, it doesnt show you mastered Maguuma, multiple zones, and put 40 hero loci of work into your character. it cheapens it.
20 minutes for map completion? “Complete rubbish”, as you say.
It takes someone 5mins to make a post about how ‘hard’ something is when it may be forever to actually get good at it.
And it takes seconds to make a post devoid of constructive comment such as that.
Frankly, I really don’t care what the “L2P!” crowd think. This is about play balance – in this case, making enough of the new content accessible to all players to feel that it justifies their purchases. Not just making a few hardcore elite players feel smug with themselves.
Don’t get me wrong; it’s great that there should be content that challenges even better players equipped with top-notch gear. But this is an expansion that people are being asked to pay out for, and that (presumably) ANet hope will secure theiir revenue for a while. Many players are rather more casual, don’t spend long hours in the game, and have neither the time nor inclination to invest such hours as they have in banging their heads repeatedly against brick walls. And it’s certainly not remotely in ANet’s financial interest to put a significant portion of its customers off within hours of getting into the expansion, by putting excessively difficult stuff straight across their main path of progress – they’ve paid good money for the new content, and if they get too frustrated, there’s a very good chance that they’ll simply chuck the game in altogether, and go find something else to do.
The simple fact is that the initial tuning of HoT was wrong – great if you were looking for new high end challenges, but lousy if you weren’t. If you went through the new zones on launch day, fine – you could have freeloaded on the backs of all the other players. Anything you possibly wanted to do was being done by dozens of other people at the same time. Very different now, after even a few days – peak times may, conceivably, be different, but most of the time, in the first new zone, if there’re more than a couple of people around even for an event, you’re lucky. And you might as well forget most of the Hero Challenges (at their original difficulties, at least – if they’ve been nerfed, i haven’t tried them yet) unless you’re prepared to wait around shouting out in chat for someone else who happens to want to do the same thing – because they’re hard verging on the undoable if you hope to solo them and haven’t got absolutely top-rate gear and a good spec. The conclusion is inescapable; whether everyone approves or not, main path, key content in HoT was simply too difficult, and needed to be retuned.
Edit: Actually, I’m going to go further, and say that the top-end players are the last ones that Anet needs to keep happy – because they’re the most likely to be earning enough in-game gold to be able to stay well away from shelling out actual cash for game things they want. It’s mostly the more casual ones who want more but don’t have the time/inclination to grind who actually keep the revenue stream active and the game going.
+100…..especially that last paragraph.
stop ruining the game for higher skilled players
These so-called “higher skilled players” are the ones who ruin games. What if I told you that normal people just want to play for fun and not for power / skill? Stop ruining the game for people who just want fun. There’s enough group content in this game (fractals, dungeons, world bosses, meta events, raids soon), a huge part of the open world maps should stay soloable. I hope everything will get nerfed into the ground.
Great post. I don’t want everything nerfed into the ground…..but I hope Anet can find a happy medium on the difficulty level. This game has always been geared more toward casual and less than hard core players…..so I am not surprised that they are adjusting things towards the majority of the player base.
If it is too easy for some obsessed hard core player…..there are plenty of other games out there that will have all the grind and toughness that could ever possibly be wanted by such obsessed game addicts.
While I do know some “higher skilled players”, most of these self proclaimed “higher skilled players”, especially those that point it out in their own posts……are nothing more than no lifers who can commit just about every waking hour to the game.

“The nerfs don’t make this game worth the money”.
I didn’t have high hopes for the expansion, but they actually manage to create something amazing… and now they are systematically destroying it with all these nerfs.
They just nerfed the entire Verdant Brink map… if they continue at this rate, the entire content will be finished in a month even by casual players… then the same players who cried “too hard OMG” will cry “OMG no end game, you suk ArenaNet” and then move on… just like last time.
I think this is it… if history repeats its self, there is no way ArenaNet can come back a second time from it.
The expansion has not even been out a week, yet, and you’re already forecasting Anet’s doom and gloom.
Yea, that sure makes sense.
This is definitely good news!
I can’t believe people are actually complaining about this. Must be a slow day.
Agreed, Rambit……pretty typical for Kaineng and the servers we’re matched up against…..just out looking for some good and fun fights in wvw.
I don’t doubt it……you all were very organized, as we were kind of split up into 2 or 3 groups……was still a ton of fun!!!
Just wanted to say how much fun my wife and I had fighting with our comrades over a castle in KBL last night. Kaineng was heavily outnumbered and not terribly organized, but it was still a heck of a long back and forth fight for quite awhile! My wife and I were laughing so hard by the time we had had enough……was just a ton of fun and great action for well over an hour.
Thanks to everyone out there……extremely fun time in WvW last night!!!
Thought from seeing the title of this thread it was going to be another stupid, sanctimonious ‘goodbye thread’…….lol……thanks for the chuckles, instead, OP.
Have a great vacation!
I hope that Anet is willing to do another class beta soon, the game is getting terribly boring and people are leaving again. Not just that, there is litterly no new content and we are still waiting for the release date.
And if its true that it will be around xmas, no halloween? no anything? the game would be dead and nobody would care anymore if it comes out that late lol.
So plz also do some stuff to keep people in a positive way active.
Well, of course….since you’re getting bored EVERYONE is leaving the game, and it will be DEAD by the end of the year………all because you are bored.
Sounds like rock solid logic to me.
Maybe this is Anet’s Mesmer nerf?
(j/k, of course)
Kaineng is a decent server for roaming. Mostly small fights with very few true blob fights.
I don’t understand all the hate for him, though I’m still going through the story but I thought he was really interesting when he was introduced. I disagree he has a lack of personality. He’s just not the type that you would often see thrown into the important role of a giant war, but that’s what I found more interesting than some beefed out battle master.
They have edited a lot of what he used to say. I went through the whole claw island thing again with another character a few weeks back, and his dialog is now far different, and better than it was last year. He is far more tolerable, now.
Although, he still has a tendency to wander off in the middle of some fights.
Can someone remove the 25 Stacks of Confusion I got after reading OP’s Post.
LOL! At least you only got 25 stacks of confusion. I got that, plus 20 stacks of bewilderment after reading the initial post in this thread.
eotm is a great map, different from the rest which is nice, there are always big fights happening at eotm, but at the end of the day it’s about karma farming and not winning fights(that’s the downside to eotm your guild certainly does’t win anything from eotm, not even bragging rights). I also see no contradiction in my statement because it’s been how long since a different server has fought another? This is no longer wvw but a weekly grind with the same people, the wvw aspect is gone. You obviously weren’t around during the awesomeness that was playing against a new server every week, where wvw didn’t feel like a grind.
Anywho disagree with my idea all you want, are you currently happy with wvw? That was the main point of this thread. Because i’m not, I want to be put against different people, and I would like to see the wvw servers stay busy besides peak hours on the weekends.
I’m confused. Are you asking about eotm or regular wvw? Eotm is a completely different beast, as it is mostly karma trains and lowbies leveling up quick, whereas wvw is actual battles between servers for points on the map.
I have gotten bored with wvw, as well as the rest of the game lately. There just isn’t much point or rewards in wvw to make it interesting. I liked someone’s suggestion here about having something like darkness falls in DaoC…..that would give more reasons to fight. Just seems to me that Anet has just ignored wvw over the last year or so……and wvw has suffered because of that.
Ah well, I plan on taking an extended break and coming back after HoT is released…..maybe there will be some worthwhile additions to wvw and the game in general after that expansion.
One phrase that he repeated ad nauseum in fights…..
“This won’t end well”
Oh shut up, Trahearne, and kill something for pete’s sake!
I understand that, Nate….was just asking about the xp pot. Thanks!
Hi all,
Just a quick question on the WvW daily. A friend told me that the wvw big spender daily had increased over the last couple of weeks. I am talking about the wvw xp pot thing that you could buy at the laurel guy in wvw…….it has always been 2 laurels and some badges of honor when I have done it. My friend insists that it was increased to 25 laurels over the last couple weeks…….but when I went out to buy it tonight, it was still at 2 laurels, and I think 50 badges of honor.
That is what I remember it being. Has the amount changed at all in the last couple weeks, and then changed back to what it was? Just wanting to know if this happened or not.
Thanks for any help/input.

Raptr’s note at the bottom of the page concerning their ‘top games’ chart…..
“Note: The Share number by each game represents that title’s gameplay time as a percentage of the total time spent on all the PC games played by Raptr members, and is useful for comparing the relative amount of play time between particular games.”
So obviously, since Raptr members aren’t playing GW2 much, this must mean that the entire gaming world is following suit.
That is about as dependable as someone coming on here, announcing that they’re quitting, and because of just that, the game is dying.
Good one…….lol
The difficulty teaches you to run from fights you can’t beat, consider your build choices, and makes more abilities useful.
There were mobs that had an attack that repeatedly hit you as it blinked all around you and would burst you down very quickly. This made me consider wanting to have protection, blinds, interrupts, etc, things that you would never want in the base game.
These mobs aren’t hard to fight, but it does require you to step out of the “press-1 zerker gear dodge every 20 seconds” mindset. Also consider these event and mobs will get zerged to all hell when HoT launches, significantly trivializing the difficulty.
99% of the current game lacks challenge or engagement and there’s a subset of the community that wants challenge and hasn’t been given that in ages.
I have to agree with this. It was good to see Anet going in this sort of direction with the beta this weekend. I hope it continues, as npcs that are more difficult to kill are challenging, and force one to think more as a player/fighter. I really enjoyed that aspect of the beta this weekend. I know that part of the reason I have been getting so bored with the game lately is the utter lack of any sort of challenge with the npcs, unless you get jumped by more than 4 at a time, and even then, it is not tough to emerge victorious. I am getting tired of wandering through PvE like a zombie, with little concern about ever getting killed. I welcome some tougher npcs that actually require a bit of strategy/skill/tweaking your build to be able to emerge victorious.
OP, it is the first open beta weekend, with many more to go. Don’t sweat it, as things will be adjusted and changed a lot before HoT gets released. This is the reason why I tried the beta, but didn’t take any of it too seriously. Gave me some good looks at what direction they’re heading with HoT, but that is about it. Some interesting elite traits for some of the characters, and some interesting, tougher npcs to fight, but, again, don’t put a ton of stock in it, as it will get changed and adjusted depending on feedback before it all goes live.
Just enjoy and have fun with the betas, and realize that nothing is set in stone in the betas.

That’s not a bad idea, Blaze. I hadn’t thought of farming sw for the Rev. I should have enough tomes to almost insta-80 the Rev when it gets here, so silverwaste farming for gear would be a good idea.
Thanks! I will give that a try.

I will add one more bit of very important advice to new players:
Do not, I repeat, DO NOT read these forums until you have played the game for a few weeks at the very least, so that you can form your own impressions and opinions of this game before descending into the overall negativity of these forums. Remember, most people who are happy with the game don’t bother posting here!
Carry on.
So much for my thinking it might get released earlier. Looks like Christmas 2015….that would make the most sense imo at this point in time.
Finally! I have been getting so tired of signing in each night just to get my daily and the associated chests. I try to motivate myself to do other stuff in the game……like wvw or pvp, or more of the added story……but I just can’t seem to get myself interested in doing any of that.
Glad there is a HoT beta this weekend. I know it will be bug filled and have loads of problems…..but at least it will be something new to do and maybe get my interest in the game jump started again. Am sure it just has to do with the fact that I have been with the game since a month after release…..familiarity breeds boredom for me with games.
Anyone else finding themselves in the same boat?
And my apologies if this subject has already been posted.
I wish Anet would find and hire some of the old wvw/rvr developers from the old game Dark Age of Camelot. RVR was one of the few things DaoC got more right than any other mmorpg out there, imo.
And yea, I know I am reminiscing……not wanting ‘the good old days’(because they weren’t)………but I sure would like to see an effort like DaoC did toward wvw/rvr in this game……wvw in this game has so much good potential…..but it has just been so much of the same old, same old over the last year. Not saying that wvw can’t be fun….there are still times out there when I have a lot of fun……but those moments seem to be getting fewer and fewer for me.
I know, I know…..allow me to dream.

QFT.
This game doesn’t take long to finish. After that it’s purely Grind Wars 2 outside PvP.
So out of curiosity, can you name one MMO that doesn’t have grind? Better yet, can you name one MMO that someone hasn’t been able to “finish” within a month?
Always confuses me when people try to make it seem like GW2 is somehow unique with regards to end-game content being repetitive once you’ve completed it all. Yea, no kitten, that’s how this genre works.
At least with GW2 when a new expansion comes out I don’t have to re-grind for gear because the current gear I grinded months for is now obsolete.
The only grind in GW2 is an optional gold grind because gold buys happiness. If you are cool being and looking broke, then there isn’t even a gold grind. You can complete everything in this game without having to grind, you just might not look fashionable.
QFT. Excellent post and right on, imo.
