Mmo players with a screw loose vs mmo players with two screws loose. All very important stuff.

If it costs t hem 100,000$ according to the reddit thread, I hope it brings in 10 times that in new players that don’t act like entitled brats.
As I said just a moment ago in another thread, “Entitlement” is the new “Toxicity”. All you are doing is purposely antagonizing.
The worst things I’ve seen reading these threads since the pre-purchase was announced hasn’t been from the complainers about the pre-purchase offers, it’s the people who launched in to assault mode against them and started telling them how they should feel and trying to shame them for differing opinions. Honestly, I’m seeing more rage coming from the side supposedly supporting the pre-purchase. This is getting more depressing as it goes.
I understand your grief over the whole thing.
However, saying that one side has the right to bash, be aggressive in their complaints and whines(yes, whines), and to express their opinions however they want to…….while telling the other side that they can’t do exactly the same thing……..well, that weakens your point. Significantly.
I didn’t say they did. I noted I’m seeing more of it from one side, and “whining” is being thrown indiscriminately at anyone who has any sort of complaint. I’ve been in the middle watching this whole thing spiral in to an ugly cesspool.
And complainers have also been throwing around the white knight and fanboy comments in the same sort of fashion.
And yea, all it has become is an ugly cesspool with very few redeeming qualities whatsoever.

Imo, both sides need to ease up and try to be more intelligent with their complaints and responses. (Myself included, as I tend to enjoy stirring the pot…lol)
But asking for and/or expecting calm from a playerbase that includes a very large number of teens and very young ‘adults’, especially when the topic is a game, might be a bit too much to ask.
I am sure I will get burned for that comment……oh well……it is just my opinion.

This was not a $100,000 mistake.
This was more like a $2,000,000 – $4,000,000 mistake. Perhaps even higher; it’s really hard to understate the magnitude of it.
Firms simply do not segment their products in such a way that ignores their core customers often. It doesn’t make any sense to. I’m really curious as to what they were thinking.
I think it was a 10,000,000 dollar mistake. See? I too can pull random figures out of my rear end. Pretty easy to do, actually. Completely pain free.
If it costs t hem 100,000$ according to the reddit thread, I hope it brings in 10 times that in new players that don’t act like entitled brats.
I would be willing to bet that NCSoft/Anet will make lots of money on this xpac, despite the responses on forums. Especially if the xpac turns out to be something truly fantastic…..if that happens, word of mouth after the release will be, ‘holy cow, this is so worth the money!’
I know I am repeating myself, but I have seen almost the identical sort of thing with other mmos and expansion pacs……..all this furor over cost, etc., then it quickly dies down after release, especially if it is a really good xpac.
All this garbage on the forums is nothing new……just many more people expressing entitlement-rage……something you didn’t see much 10+ years ago with older mmos.
If some are so upset about it, then just don’t buy the xpac. Simple as that. And be sure not to buy it after release, especially if word of mouth on it is really good……because, ya know……your principals on the matter and all…….
Jmo, of course.

I personally refuse to drop $50 on HoT for a few simple reasons.
First, There isn’t enough information on the new content coming WITH HoT.
Second, $50 and oh, you get the original game too when you already have it and don’t need it?
Make a different pre-order category for those who already have the core game, and people will drop their money faster than you can blink, but it’s a slap in the face to charge $50 for the X-pac AND a game we already own.
People are too funny.
How is this any different than buying a 2 year old steam game that ends up being free or heavily discounted years later? Did veteran players QQ on the forums because they just realized the game they preordered years ago for $100+ previously, is now free? Gosh Steam forums must have their hands full.Don’t be ridiculous.
the difference is you can still buy the game at the sale price and get the same thing as a new player.
they are essentially barring old players from the sale price.
Start a new account, phys, and you will get exactly what a new player is getting, for exactly the same price. You’ll also get to level new characters, just like a new player.
i am seriously considering that, if i purchase it. its a better value.
sucks that they are encouraging players to give up player progress for a decent value.sameway if i wanted to add a pool to my house, and someone told me it would cost me as much as buying a new house, i would probably buy the new house, or not buy the pool.
It’s not giving up player progress. I am a very casual player, and I have 2 accounts. Got my second account on that absurd sale they had awhile back. With the daily login chests and such, you don’t have to play that extra account very much to level up.
I still play my main account just as much as I did.
you are giving up your old “house”
ie acheivements, gear, crafting levels etc.however they still exist, they just wont benefit from any HoT only parts, so it is something to consider.
but likely ill just pass on it till they get a sale for a more agreeable price, or they offer more for 50.unless my friends really really want to play it, then i may just get a second account
But I am not giving up my main house. I still play that the most, and my 2nd account is like that vacation house that gets used a few times a year…….all the main stuff still happens with the ‘old house’. Only reason I even got a 2nd account is that it was cheaper to do that rather than transferring to another wvw server. I like my current wvw server, but there are times when I want to do some different wvw on a different wvw server with different wvw people……that is the ONLY reason I got the 2nd account. It takes a backseat to my main account in every way. I seriously doubt if I will even get HoT for my second account…..maybe next year sometime, but am in no rush for it on the 2nd account.
Except that you will no longer be able to progress that account. No mastery system. No rewards from the mastery system, such as legendary crafting or the mastery system related to fractals, no personal story. No rewards from doing the personal story, such as new armor that might look really good on old chars. No elite specializations, no matter how useful that might be in WvW or just while playing.
There is a good chance that an account left behind will slowly turn into a farming account to log in daily for the daily rewards.
I am not worried about any of that. I only paid 10 bucks for the account, and I will slowly, at my normal slow pace, eventually get the account to where I want it. I am not concerned with how much time it might take me.
/shrug
I deleted a character awhile back, because I didn’t like playing it. Since they have changed the game substantially since then, I demand a refund on that deleted character now that it looks like it will be fun to play.

And yea, talk to support about your issues on this……posting to the forums will do you absolutely no good at all.
You do realize that there are many other threads about this topic……you really don’t need to make another one.
Did you even read past the title?
Yup, therefore that is why I posted a smiley face. I agree that the anger needs to be redirected at corporate, and not the Anet devs and such……they had nothing to do with any of this pricing/marketing.
That being said, there are lots of threads with the same sort of comments as yours….(I commented about exactly the same thing in many of those threads.)
I didn’t even see the smiley face. Who’s not reading now, lol.
They must have been buried behind or merged into the giant unhappy mega thread cause I haven’t any.
Yea, the search engine on this site doesn’t work very good.
But you’re preaching to the choir with me on your original post. I completely agree.
NCSoft marketing created all this bs with the expansion, yet Anet devs and programmers are the ones having to deal with the brunt of the anger.
You do realize that there are many other threads about this topic……you really don’t need to make another one.

My biggest conundrum is whether to buy the expansion for my 2nd account. I probably won’t until well after it releases. For now, I will just concentrate on HoT on my main account.

Apples and oranges —
It is only an apples and oranges comparison to those who take games, ie ‘entertainment’, way too seriously.

If the upvotes on the reddit thread “Don’t Pre-Purchase Heart of Thorns” are any indication, that’s a bare-minimum loss of $78k, so far, not including any upgrade packages. So the total is easily over $100,000 in lost sales, just from those who have viewed that thread and voted. It’s not a perfect metric, but people are speaking their minds and voting with their money right now.
Maybe if there was some discussion about the HoT packages and price points, this disaster could have been avoided. It’s not like we don’t want to give Anet our money, but we also want good value. If the price cannot be lowered at this point, at least pad the packages, especially the base one. It’s nickel and diming your customers, when you make them pay $50, then force them to buy a character slot for the new class.
Not a “perfect” metric? Seriously? Bwahahahahaha!
I love the threads on this forum where people just start pulling random numbers out of their rear end and present them as if they were anywhere close to fact.
Please continue…..getting my popcorn……..lol…..lol
I have to agree with Gundam. The Anet reps have responded many times in these forums to issues. Either you’re(the OP) not paying any attention, or you’re just trolling.
And If you think they’re not listening, then what about the absolutely awesome change they just announced about ascended gear coming back to only 5% over exo, AND being able to change stats on ascended gear come Tuesday.
Sorry, Panites, but imo, your post is pretty much irrelevant when it comes to GW2.
And, after reading some of the OP’s previous posts, where the OP does talk about devs communicating, and then not communicating because of some of the incessant whining that goes on here………I have to really wonder about this thread and the actual reasons for starting it……maybe you just wanted to get all nostalgic about Space Cowboy……
(edited by Teon.5168)
Laughing so hard right now. Someone find the picture that guy posted of his stacks of ascended zealot armor recipes. He just lost a fortune on that investment.
When I heard about the 10% ascended gear change, I went out and bought a ton of scraps, thinking I might be able to flip them for a bit of a profit after Tuesday. Fortunately, as soon as I heard about this wonderful change bringing ascended gear back to 5%, with changeable stats….I went, ‘oh crap, sell, sell, sell!!!!!’
Fortunately, I only lost around 15g(I bought lots of scraps)……phew……I throw that amount of money away in 10 minutes on the mystic toilet.
Otherwise, this is great news from Anet!!!!! And I just have to laugh at the small number of people in this thread who still want to QQ and cry about this. You all do realize just how silly and foolish you’re making yourselves look, yes?
GREAT CHANGES, ANET!!!!!!
I finished up my ascended gear for my main just last night. Except for his ascended longbow(zojja’s). A few weeks ago I got an ascended longbow drop in a wvw chest…..I was really pleased, but it wasn’t quite the stats I wanted. Now with this new change to ascended gear and their stats……I won’t have to craft the ascended bow….just will have to change the stats on the ascended longbow drop I got.
Many thanks, Anet!!!!
And fwiw, I had not crafted a fully ascended gearset because of the 5-10% change. I had done most of it a bit ago, as I was bored at the time, and just felt like crafting a full set for the heck of it.
(edited by Teon.5168)
But we know the name of at least two maps, so it’s not. lol
Yay 2 maps I’ll gladly hand over my money now. No, I want ANet to include in the HoT sales page what exactly I’m getting in this expansion, not a general overview of what to expect (id be fine with this if it was a simple pre-order but its not)
You obviously haven’t played many mmos. I don’t think I have experienced one single mmo gaming company over the last 15+ years that has given out every single detail on their expansion packs. They usually just give you enough to wet your appetite.
If you don’t like it, then wait to buy HoT until after it releases….then you can get the details from friends who have bought the xpac.
Apparently, there are many here that never read the EULA. Almost all mmos include the the statement, “gaming experience may change at any time”.
Thanks for screwing altaholics anet, thanks a lot.
I am an altaholic, and I fail to see how this affects us at all. /shrug
You need to make three times as many ascended sets?
No, actually I don’t. And even if I did, they’re not that hard to make and/or get the materials for them.
I see no reason to give Anet anymore money and am frankly | | this close to reporting Anet for dubious business practices.
This has already been tried with several other mmo gaming companies that have done exactly the same thing, if not worse, over the past several years.
Good luck with your jousting of windmills.
I think you all need to redirect your anger at NCSoft, corporate, bean counters, and marketing departments. I highly doubt if Anet had anything to do with the pricing and/or release marketing on HoT.
I would suggest that you redirect your anger at the bean counters and corporate admin at NCSoft…….I doubt that Anet, especially the devs and programmers had anything to do with setting the price or how to release/prerelease the expansion.
Thanks for screwing altaholics anet, thanks a lot.
I am an altaholic, and I fail to see how this affects us at all. /shrug
Why do you people feel like ascended is mandatory for all your characters?
Get trinkets and weapons, they are easier and much cheaper to get.
Wouldnt the difference between character fully geared in ascended, and character only not having ascended armor, be much less then 10% in result?
Are we talking about 3-5% difference in stats being mandatory right now, or are my thoughts on this wrong? It’s the difference between winning and losing fights in WvW, I can tell you that. You need every advantage.
This is only true if you are battling a player with exactly the same skill and character class as yourself. One with exotics, and one with ascended. Yes, the ascended geared character will most likely win due to their stat advantage.
However, this is not realistic….it is only in an ideal world. WvW fights usually consist of battling all sorts of skill levels, as well as uplevels and actual 80s. And usually with at least a few people on each side, some groups organized and skilled in group combat, others…..not so much.
In that world, the stat advantage of ascended armor and weapons and trinkets makes a much more minor impact, if any at all.
Don’t let it worry you, Brian…..and welcome to the game!
There are some people who are really mad about the expansion coming out…..just ignore them and have fun.
Heck, the other night when I was on, all my fellow guildmates that were on bought the expansion without batting an eyelash. And not a single complaint from anyone. I bought the std expansion pack, but most of my guildmates bought the more deluxe versions.
The anger will all blow over in a couple weeks or so…..
Have fun and enjoy!
Normalizing system allows them to do proper balance on skills and traits.
So put me in the OP is wrong about everybody not liking it.
I like it.How far do you go on normalizing? Where is that line? Where do you stop before you have a bunch of people running around hitting each other with the same 1 skill because it was too hard to balance variety?
Are we really going to go down the slippery slope line of logical fallacy to make your post appear correct or is this just a string of rhetorical questions for the sake of appearing intelligent when the answer is right in front of you ?
Lol, this meme just poped in my head. I’m ok (but not agree) with people who likes and supports the movement skill nerf, but at least care to elaborate some argument when posting in a discussion thread.
These kinds of ‘discussions’ make me laugh heartily to no end. Everyone thinking they know what they’re talking about, because they know the game best, and this or that will absolutely happen!!!! YARRR!!! YARRRR!!!!!
Even though the change hasn’t even been implemented, yet. Absolutely amazing how much energy is wasted on topics like this……lol.
Anyways, imho, your meme wins the thread…..hands down!
Thanks, but I will wait to see what the change actually does in game, rather than relying on assumptions and ‘the-sky-is-falling’ panic before the change is even implemented.
I’d like to meet this forum-lurker, Nobody and his/her twin, Everybody. They certainly influence a lot of posters. ; )
I thought the whole blog sounded promising. Nobody and Everybody should probably wait until release before offering their opinions.
You left out their evil triplet sibling, Somebody.
So does this mean that HoT is coming out next patch?
Whether it comes in the form of an in game patch or download, you’ll get plenty of warning when HoT will be released, as we will have to pay $$ for it.
I imagine HoT will be released as a download and/or boxed dvd. There will be a few players that won’t want to buy it, so I can’t see it being put in as some sort of patch like the ones they release on Tuesdays or whenever.
(edited by Teon.5168)
Wow, that was quick! How did you survey the entire playerbase in such a short time?
I like that they’re pushing this mentality away with HoT. As it is I really don’t care about my exp bar on my level 80 chars. Masteries are a nice way to break it, and if it stays as it was during beta it means they ditched the “flat leveling curve” so experience will actually matter a lot.
Agreed. It will make xp meaningful again, post-80.
(edited by Teon.5168)
Again a level 80 now gets Wxp and Exp. Both, at same time. Two rewards simultaneously, giving it a high ‘reward’ appeal. Update would basically 100% destroy the exp part. They would have to buff Wxp tremendous wich they won’t.
I really don’t understand this post. What is this high ‘reward’ appeal you speak of?
I sure don’t feel any sort of high ‘reward’ when I am getting wxp and xp on a level 80.
On my level 80s, my rewards come from playing with guildmates, winning a close pvp match, coming out victorious in a hard fought wvw battle, trying different character setups and finding how they work or don’t work, guild missions, dungeons, etc.
You’re certainly entitled to enjoy the ‘rewarding’ movement of your xp bar after turning 80,(play the game how ya like) but I seriously doubt if you’ll find a majority of the playerbase that is as concerned about it as you are.
Capture two keeps in a row? Sorry your ‘omg i progress half a level’ feeling is gone. Yes at first their may (or may not be) a mastery in wvw to max, but that will be fast complete, and from then on, everything in wvw, will feel more empty then ever. Not good. But it’s same in pve.
Getting half a level on your experience bar after you have turned 80 actually gives you some sort of ‘accomplishment’ feeling? Ok, whatever. If not having that xp bar is some sort of major game breaker for you(I have no idea why it possibly would be), then maybe you just need to take a break?
Imo, why should someone even care what their experience bar is doing after reaching 80?
I don’t even pay any attention to my experience bar anymore on any of my 80 characters. It won’t affect me one way or the other if it is there or not on my 80s.

10 years later, I still play Guild Wars 1 a few days a week. I guess I have a lot more patience than others.
It is not that for me, as I have played older games, like DaoC for 10 years.
I take breaks from GW2 just to keep from getting burnt out. I like the game A LOT, and I don’t want to get to the point where I want to quit the game. The breaks I take are healthy for me, as it refreshes me and makes the game more entertaining when I want to get more serious about it down the road, again. (And yea, there is still a lot I haven’t done in the game)
Pretty typical for anyone who has played the game so long. I too, am in the do dailies, chit chat a bit, maybe do some pvp, then logoff and maybe go play some ESO or Eve Online. Although I do sometimes delve into Silver Wastes or more in to the extra chapters to the life story, since I am only on chapter 2.
The thing I find funny about threads like this, and I am not accusing you of it sirsquishy…..so many people on these forums screamed about an expansion….and now that it is coming, they’re screaming about more content being added every few weeks……lmao.
You just can’t win, Anet…..lol.
As others have said here…..Dungeons and EotM for really fast leveling.
And compared to other, older mmorpgs out there, GW2 has lightning fast leveling.
And as the poster above me said….you do dailies, you’ll get around 6 or so tomes of knowledge in a 28 day span…….that is pretty easy extra levels for doing nothing but logging in each day. And playing PvP will also give you tomes on a fairly regular basis.
There are all sorts of ways in the game to speed up the leveling process.
(edited by Teon.5168)
So, here are what I have noticed after playing GW2 for 120 hours and consistent visit to reddit and this official forum.
You’ve only played for 120 hours? You have barely scratched the surface of the game.
Sounds to me like you’re forming your opinions about GW2 based more on forum chatter than actual play time.
Plus, you mention enjoying PvP and WvW…..that is the beauty of this game. Some people like all elements of it, and some people just like certain elements.
Since you enjoy PvP and WvW, then just concentrate on those for now and have fun!

Random Charr Soldier in Silverwastes:
“I don’t see why we have to take orders from mice and talking cabbages.”
Quoted for truth. Charrism all the way!
Charrs don’t even like taking orders from their own kind…….they got this inner angst thing going…..
Stop is a terribly overused word, imo.
Yea, I realize that beta testing includes finding issues/bugs and reporting them. I have been in betas with other games, and I always tried to take notes and report things during the testing phase. And agreed, Crystallize….sadly, there is always a good portion of the beta testers that view it only as early access, and not for its intended purpose.
And I realize that the beta testing might be taking place on independent servers, so the current bugs that are being encountered ingame might not be present in the beta testing. If I were a beta tester, I would sure hate to see the wp portal disconnect bug currently in areas of the game also be in the beta test.
Happy beta testing, anyways!
Just curious as to how Anet thinks they’ll have a closed beta test that is worth anything with all the random bugs that are currently floating around in the game.
Today, I am getting the ‘network error, booted from game’ problem when trying to port at times.
Seems farfetched to me that they will have enough of these bugs fixed by the 26th to have a valid stress test in closed beta.
jmo
Got hacked by some chinese kitten not long after I started playing, I think I waited like a year before I decided to get my account back.
So the whole ‘played since day 1’ thing is pretty much irrelevant since you didn’t play for a whole year after your account was hacked.
Just sayin’…….
Well I do hope in the time since I last played they made the pets a bit more… customizable.
Not really. But they do respond a tad better.
I was just in LA, and I didn’t see anything added to my already completed LA.
I love the changes there, so far!
Well, that won’t last long, but SWEET!
You are right I shouldn’t assume people are running zerker I am more annoyed at the leet players who tell people to learn to do pve in zerker or they aren,t doing it right.
Ignore those idiots and play the game how you want to play it, rather than worrying or getting frustrated by people who want you to play the game as they see it. There are always leetists and hardcores in any mmorpg……if that is not your playstyle, then it is best to ignore them.
I just enjoy the game and play how I want to, as do most members of the guild I am in.
And eotm is enjoyable for players that enjoy that sort of content……don’t let it bug you. If you don’t like, then don’t play that part.
You should try Silverwastes……that is a fun, new pve area, and the drops can be quite good.
And pvp is a mixed bag…..sometimes you get matched against premade groups, other times no……I win as much as I lose……you just have to go in with the attitude that sometimes it will be horribly overmatched in non-ranked pvp…it is not a big deal, imo.
As others have suggested here, either continue your break until HoT comes out, or just play it casually until HoT hits.

All I want to know is whether there’s going to be a Charrbucks Coffee Emporium in Lion’s Arch. All that ale is giving me a hangover.
As long as they also serve Skritt cheeseburgers with bacon. (And no, I don’t mean the burgers are made from Skritts) I have heard those are extremely good for taking the edge off a nasty hangover.
