That one statement alone pretty much destroys your entire argument on the matter.

Based on the above statement, your entire argument is based on your personal fears, and has absolutely nothing to do with what Mike O’Brien said.

Fear away, as noone will know what the expansion brings until it gets here.

It’s more like they are about to turn 180 degrees and do exactly the opposite of what they just said. That’s what the new article today is about: more tier to infusion, which is is a gear treadmill.

I don’t see how you’re possibly coming to that conclusion. You have absolutely no way of knowing until the expansion is released. All you’re doing is assuming stuff based on your own fears.

No one, apart from a handful of soapbox-toting forum warriors, gives two kittens about the manifesto. They promised stuff. We got some, didn’t get others and quite a lot is open to debate. It’s all behind us now.

Hi all,
Looking for a GoM PvX guild……
Am a laid back, older player that does WvW mostly, but I also enjoy all other aspects of the game. I have several 80s, and am looking for a laid back guild that doesn’t require 100% rep.

Email me here or in game if interested.

Thanks!

Apparently anet wants us to be a T3 server, for no apparent reason.

Another fun, ignorable week of wvw…….bleh

Hate to break it to you, but the expansion isn’t here, yet. Heck, they haven’t even announced when the beta will begin, yet. I also have my doubts that it will be anything like gw1, but who knows? Also, how the heck did you play GW2 to the end if you have been away for a year and a half?

But I, too, am very excited about the expansion……even though I am a current, happy gw2 player.

And welcome back to the game!

Double XP Weekend Advice

Surprised no one’s recommended Edge of the Mists yet. It’s where a lot of the derailed Queensdales went after the champ nerf. Or is that only for WXP and karma?
I’ve touched it once in the past year (because dailies), so I don’t actually know. =P

If the double XP applies to XP from events, then EOTM would be a great place to go.

Agreed…..EOTM should be a great place for xp this weekend. But I imagine it will be pretty crowded, due to the 2x xp.

That doesn’t make any sense the R7 240 is pitiful compared to a 7850, not surprising considering it’s about 1/4 of the price

Check some benchmarks here
http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/gpu_list.php

My bad, sandpit. Thanks for posting a link on it. I had quickly looked at some benchmarks, and thought I had seen the OP’s card close to the 7850……..but after looking at your link…..I was obviously very mistaken. Heck, my two older vid cards sitting in a box in my closet are probably faster than that R7. My laptop with its mobility radeon is probably even faster.

So yea, I completely agree with you…..the OP needs to get a better vid card. If the op has the money, an R9 290 would be a very nice replacement…..I have been looking at upgrading to that one.

That card should not be running high, it’s a poor medium card. Try auto-detect and by all means tweak some values up but keep an eye on your fps. You have a poor GPU.

If you don;t want to play in lower settings then buy a better graphics card.

That said, it shouldn’t crash on you so there is also some other problem.

I have a similar system(albeit older) as the OP, and I can run high graphic levels in pve and maintain 40 fps or better all the time. Only time I have to turn my settings down is when I wvw, or in big boss fights with tons of people…….then the settings have to go to medium with some low settings on shaders and character models.

His cpu and gpu should be more than enough for the game most of time. His gpu may not be top end, but it is just as good as my older HD 7850, and because my vid card handles it as I stated above, his setup should certainly be able to do close to the same thing.(I do overclock my system)

Disclosure: I am overclocking both my cpu and gpu(at safe levels that I have rigorously tested…been oc’ing them both for well over 18 months now)……and that does make a performance difference. You may have to turn the settings down a tad on that gpu to achieve the fps I am.

Depends on how you define community.

The in game community will most likely just keep enjoying the game and whatever they do announce. So pretty much same old same old.

The caustics on the forums will also do what they do every day – complain, yell and claim to quit the game every 2-3 days. Again, same old same old.

AMD video card drivers just updated a couple days ago……are you running the most current drivers?

Also, you might want to turn off anisotropic filtering in the graphic card settings(windows) if you have turned them on for games. I have a similar setup as you(older vid card – 7850) and GW2 seems to have some troubles with anisotropic filtering for me…..causes me to lock up at times, when turned on.

Your setup should be able to handle medium-high settings most of the time. You’ll probably need to do some of what Zefthewicked suggested when you get into large pve boss battles and large zerg fights in wvw to keep things smooth.

So many people here on the forums think that the big announcement on the 24th will concern an expansion to the game……

But wouldn’t it be cool if the 24th came and what they announced was a huge update to WvW? New, larger maps, more points to take and defend, some different rules and rewards, restructuring of the tiers, etc……

Or just that being included as part of the big announcement…….

Just a thought…..

Anyone else find this to be an odd change?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Teon.5168

Teon.5168

Was cleaning out my bank and selling some stuff on the trader last night, and noticed an odd change. Before the patch, when you had multiples of an item to list, the qty would set to the max number you had(for most items)….it still does when you ‘sell now’…….but when you chose to ‘list’ the item for a different price, the qty resets to 1, and you have to manually change the number to the max you want to sell.

It is not a big deal, but just thought it was an odd change. Anyone else notice it, or am I just hallucinating? (or did they add a ‘set to max’ option that I haven’t noticed?)

Edit: As Donari mentioned, this has already been discussed……sorry about that….didn’t see those threads……..at least I know now that I wasn’t going crazy.

They also changed the selling at the trader. When you have multiples of the same number…..it used to automatically kick the number to the max(on most items) you had when you listed the item. Now, it resets to 1, and you have to manually kick the slider up to the max that you have. Not a big deal, but an odd change.

an expansion might be useless

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

First off, the OP over simplifies the playerbase, stating that they’re either type a or type b. There are a ton of players out there that play the game for all sorts of different reasons, none of which fits into the OP’s black and white characterization of the playerbase.

And second, I would definitely agree with several other posters here……player b will never be satisfied with the game, so that type of player should be very low on Anet’s priority list.

yeah, like player C

Player C is PvP maniac who wants real PvP feeling and atmosphere but he didnt get it and he doesnt think he will ever get in this game.

Or Player D….someone like my wife who only plays the game for PvE, and avoids WvW and PvP like the plague.

I will play pvp, but only when I have to(dailies) or for a change when I get tired of pve or wvw, as pvp gets boring pretty quick for me….but that is just me.

an expansion might be useless

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Teon.5168

That’s exactly what I did. I’m now playing Episodes 5-8 of LS2. I just logged in and did dailies while I waited for the final episode of this season. Makes the LS2 seem as tho it had more content than it actually did and I still have 2 other 80’s to do the complete LS2 on. So hopefully I’ll be able to stay occupied in-game until the next season starts or we get an expansion.

LOL….same as what I have done. I have fiddled with dailies, alts, and wvw while the different ls chapters have been piling up. I looked back just a couple days ago, and I only have 1/2 through the 2nd chapter done…..so I got quite a few chapters to get through…..should make for an interesting few months of game play, as I will do all sorts of other things in game along with the life story.

(As anyone can tell from the above post, most of the time I do not rush through mmorpgs……I take my time with them, and just try to enjoy the game experience….despite the minor annoyances here and there)

So far the dialog has been very interesting on this idea, save for the few people that were upset with the word “we” which I was surprised at……LOL. If you want to rile up the population, put the word “we” in your subject line

Fair enough….was just checking.

And people on forums usually get a bit bothered when ‘we’ is used in the subject line or in the OP’s original post, as it implies that the OP is speaking for others.

Expansion confrimed?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Teon.5168

People will always complain, just saying.
If anything, an expansion helps GW2 to put its’ name back in the MMO market for further commercial success. However as long as a happy community goes, you won’t see that happening. WoW has been stuck in the spiral of hating forums since 10 years and GW2 will probably end up the same.

Game hate in mmorpg forums is pretty typical for every mmorpg out there. Most of the people that enjoy the game are playing the game, rather than commenting on the forums.

LOL….yea, I am awful when I get a thief(s)…(it is usually more than 1) on me……but enjoyable when you get one on ya that has obviously built the class for the ez-win aspect….they usually end up dead when I encounter those. But a well played thief is very, very difficult to kill……mainly because I usually end up dead….or when I do get the upper hand, they’ll run away.

Game Over!

in WvW

yea Ive heard it being used in other games, just will never understand why anyone would want it in competitive gameplay. Regardless its here and part of a profession mechanic so nothing can be done about that, not like theres a debate whether or not to include it. It is very frustrating nonetheless. I do think there should be more attention paid to thieves in general to address the problems.

I certainly agree with you as to why on earth devs feel like it belongs in a competitive game. Having said that, and having come from a game where stealth was exponentially worse…….even though it is very frustrating at times dealing with it in this game……I find it tolerable, due to my past experiences with it in DaoC.

Trust me, it could be far, far worse.

I think that my problems with stealth in a game such as this is that…..I don’t have a problem with classes being given some small, short timered aspects of stealth……but the problem I have with it all is creating a class where stealth is the main component for that class. And yea, I have a thief……he doesn’t appeal to me much, but I built one just to figure out what their weak points are, and how to possibly exploit them.

Thieves and moreover stealth do need nurfed.. its not even close to the other classes

stealth definately, its the most bs mechanic Ive ever seen in a game. Going invisible in a game where people fight each other…what??? Single player fine who cares, but pvp/wvw formats will never understand why they chose this mechanic.

DaoC, back in the day, also had stealth in wvw….and it was far worse than the stealth in GW2. There would be entire stealth guilds running around in wvw/rvr ruining it for nearly everyone, except those guilds that made it their mission in life to destroy stealthers…..lol. At times in rvr in Daoc, there would actually be scouts letting everyone know where the stealther groups were showing up at, so that most everyone could avoid them. There were ways to make builds that were more resistant to the stealthers, but the stealthers became so popular with the ez-win crowd, that they were difficult to avoid at times in rvr on DaoC, especially if you happened to be solo. Just about everyone with any experience in DaoC rvr would run speed buffs, or be with a group running speed buffs, as that was the best way to avoid the stealthers, since they were slow when stealthed.

Be glad that GW2 stealth isn’t anywhere close to as bad as it was in earlier mmorpgs, such as DaoC.

Double Standards in WvW

in WvW

Posted by: Teon.5168

Teon.5168

Most of the people that take the time to whisper something juvenile after a fight are children, and aren’t worth the time or bother. So what if someone killed you in a fight, or someone blames you for “resetting” a fight, etc……people die and reset, kite, whatever you want to call it all the time in wvw. Nothing new, and certainly not worth making some teeny-bopper comment in whisper……that just makes one look like an idiot, imo.

After a fight, no matter the outcome, I will chuckle, shrug and continue on. After really good fights, I will usually whisper something respectful or at least salute or bow, if I am still alive, and/or if I have the time. Good fights are the only time I think it is worth making a whisper……if just to congratulate the other person for a good fight.

Would you be open to being flexible with your map selection? Maybe roaming and havocs would be something you’d enjoy.

I have played on TC for the last 12 mo and after 2 full seasons and another 2000 hours of wvw time I can honestly say I have never not been able to play wvw due to queue times. Sure maps get a queue but there are three other maps to go to. Roaming or running with a havoc group on a BL is a nice change from EB which can be hectic.

Don’t believe JQ an BG don’t have map queues, that’s just a coded recruitment message to bolster their NA.

Some good points……I really haven’t spent a ton of time in the other bl maps, except for solo roaming.

I remember your post, I guess the end of the holidays didnt help the queues over there. I would add that if you enjoy T1 you should include a t2 server in your decision, I would avoid t3 for individual players right now because of the unbalanced matchups atm. There are basically 4 t2 servers competing for those 3 spots in T2, and one of them will keep getting bounced to t3 and beat up on the other t3 servers. If you decide to look at t2, I would probably recommend FA, they have been very stable albeit not through the best actions, but if your on T1, its not something you havent seen before. T2 will have the same blobbing and double teaming as t1, but theres a lot of action there. YB has a kitten for siege much like TC does…sigh open field siege…anyways, SBI has been pretty stable in t4, DH and GoM have been moving up the last couple months from Bronze to Silver, but hard to say atm if either will settle into one of those tiers. Hope this helps some. Good luck.

Yea, the que times have actually gotten worse since vacation ended, rather than better. Last few nights there has been a large que every night on EB….blech.
It is time to move.

T2 sounds interesting, but I am still somewhat leaning towards T4, just because the blob fights on T1 are so hilariously absurd…….they get tiresome really fast. I imagine I would see similar blobs on T2.

Tired of T1 ques

Great info, all……I expect there to be que times after resets on Friday night, but I have been getting annoyed with the 30-40+(easily 30+ minutes) people ques that have been regularly occurring in EB and sometimes in the other maps, as well. Also, just an fyi….I play pretty much all types of WvW……zerg, havoc, pugs, some roaming at times, siege, defense, scouting, etc.

And yea, I have been told by a few that TC is the worst for ques……wish I had known that before I moved.

Sounds like T2 and T4 are the ones to look at., as I don’t really want to move to a competing server on T1.

Cool…thanks so much for the comments…..looks like I need to research FA on T2 some more……..what are the guilds like on that server?

And just an FYI……you don’t know what a “ghost town” is truly like until you have been on a T8 server like Kaineng.

Keep in mind that I come from Kaineng, a bottom of the barrel server…….I was used to a wvw ghost town for a very long while……T4 would still be a HUGE improvement over Kaineng, and T4 was suggested to me in my last thread for the best variety of fights, and a pretty good balance…..I was told that T3 is a mess.

Someone did recommend Fort Aspenwood on T2. And said that the ques were fairly short.

Also, in regards to the T1 servers…..the blob battles did get a bit silly at times……when I could get in.

Thanks for the comments on Stormbluff Isle

This is basically a followup to a post I made a couple weeks ago about T1 ques. I recently transferred to T1 from Kaineng(around a couple months now)……have absolutely loved T1…….but the constant ques are getting really frustrating.

Some people here gave me some wonderful suggestions, and now that I have pretty much decided to move to T4…….I would like any and all opinions on the servers there.

Right now T4 is kind of split up between T4 and T5, but here are the potential servers and current ranks. Anyone with experience on these servers, I would love to hear your opinions. I am a casual, evening after work player(west coast USA), and just enjoy getting on after work to do a few hours of wvw every night.

Ok, here are the servers and current ranks……

10. Stormbluff Isle
11. Crystal Desert
12. Darkhaven
13. Henge of Denravi
14. Gate of Madness

12 and 14 are currently in T4 with 10, while 11 and 13 are currently in T5 with Maguuma

Any suggestions, pros, cons, etc…….would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks so much for your help!

Always something going on the NA T1 servers……so much so, that you get some really long ques at times(especially around reset on Friday night)

Underwater/above water combat, etc., might be cool.

But absolutely no on your first 2 ideas.

I’m getting i7 4790k, gtx970, maximus VI computer with 8GB of memory. Will it be good enough to run WvW battles quite smooty?

You should be good to go with that setup.
