Mmo players with a screw loose vs mmo players with two screws loose. All very important stuff.

Regardless of whether everyone uses 6/6/1(2) builds (which I don’t think is inherently true), this new system will absolutely kill the perception of diversity. You can’t dispute math. The argument is of course that only 5-10% of available builds in the old system are actually useful. And this is absolutely true, but at least you have some choice to divert if you want to. That’s really the whole point, if I want to run into a quick pvp match with a 4/4/4/2 build, I should be able to even if it is complete garbage. Now I won’t be able to.
This new change to the trait trees are exactly how WOW runs there tree now, and seems to be the trend in most MMOs. The thing I liked most about GW2 when it first came out was shear number of available points I had to use in the trait trees as opposed to what WOW changed to after Cataclysm. Then of course GW2 reduced the number of points allocated for traits last year, and now it looks like they are going to completely streamline it (noobify it) in HoT.
I mean I get, it has to be a lot easier to balance with this new approach, but I still don’t like it.
I couldn’t disagree more. You state your opinion as if it were fact. It is not. My opinion is that this change will open a whole slew of new balance problems.
I hope I am wrong. I am excited about the changes. But if they’re implemented badly, this game will have a whole new set of issues when it comes to balance and the nerf bat.
The only reason I think it will be easier to balance is because there will be less builds to balance. Again, you can’t dispute math. As stated however, I still don’t like less options even if they are perceived.
I know I can’t dispute math. But you nerd types seem to think it is that simple. Having played mmorpgs for well over 2 decades, believe me, if it was as simple as just math, all mmorpgs would be killer successes.

I am excited, too, about the new specialization system that is incoming. It will allow for more unique characters, imo.
Why do people keep saying that??!?
‘Unique’ is the one thing we absolutely know the changes are going to stamp out.
If you have a line, you have it at 6. No options. No variations. You have exactly 1 adept, 1 master, and 1 grand master trait. Without fail or exception. 27 choices. Ever.
You need to read the rest of my post.
I can understand the OP’s worries. While I am excited about the upcoming changes, they also have the possibility of opening pandora’s box when it comes to balance issues, and then, of course, the nerf bat.
Hopefully that will not happen. All depends one how it is implemented, and tweaked. I think it will require the playerbase to be very patient.
I am excited, too, about the new specialization system that is incoming. It will allow for more unique characters, imo.
That being said, and I am an old time DaoC player, that saw a similar system(ToA) implemented in that game, that sounds eerily similar……and it killed the game…..so this change concerns me, too……a lot.
ToA failed mainly due to poor implementation. I am trying to have faith in this upcoming change, and hope it doesn’t cause the same types of frustration in this game. The biggest problem that I see that could possibly happen, is that it could open a huge can of worms when it comes to balance issues.
But, I guess I will just wait and see. I hope it all works, but imagine that the playerbase will need a great deal of patience as the new system is implemented and tweaked.
I’m primarily a roamer as well, and I can vouch for T8. Down here in T8 it’s literally roamers all day long. The only time it gets blobby is NA prime and even then it’s only for like a couple hours. Sure, it might take you a bit longer to fight other roamers to fight, but that’s the price you pay for less zerg encounters. You have to decide which one you want.
T8 is a roamers paradise. If you’re interested and/or have any questions feel free to mail/whisper me
I have to agree with this. I am on Kaineng, and it is active enough in wvw that you can almost always find people to fight as a roamer(depending on your time zone), yet you won’t run into any of the huge zergs/blobs that you’ll find on T1-4.
Best of luck on your transfer choice!
(edited by Teon.5168)
“Needing” to log in everyday burns people out and make it feel like a job instead of playing.
Changing dailies to monthlies paces the game better.
If logging in everyday to get the daily burns you out on the game, then just don’t do it. Simple as that.
I like the daily system as it is.
having a consistent enjoyable playable WvW experience without server ques requires a constant jumping from one server to the next
That’s not true at all. As well, what is fun for you, is not what defines fun for others. In my opinion, if you have to transfer servers regularly to have fun, your either doing it wrong, or this is not the game for you.
I don’t think you quite get it. The need to transfer to other servers is almost a requirement in order to enjoy WvW at the moment. The server I’ve been on since the beginning, Stormbluff Isle, hasn’t won a single match in ages because of a lack of WvW players while servers like Dragonbrand and Maguuma are never without full WvW zergs rushing across the map at all times.
Our server has essentially given up since the servers are always stacked against us and at one point there was a whole day of people just dueling each other as if it was a PvP arena rather than a WvW match. It’s absolutely broken. Even I’m thinking of a server transfer at this point because there is simply no balance.
If your server had given up then you would be in T8. Apparently there are still people fighting on your server to retain their place in T3. I find it hard to believe that I, in Sorrow’s Furnace, a T8 server, can always find opposition in one form or another at most times of the day/night – but someone in a T3 server cannot.
Agreed. I am on Kaineng, a t7 server, and the wvw has been pretty good lately. There is usually something going on out in one of the maps. Certainly not the blob fights of t1, or t2, or t3 servers, but there seems to consistently be action(small groups, usually) going on somewhere in wvw. And we have no ques at all, at anytime.
Really? For those posters who insist that since we are playing a fantasy game, that it cannot borrow from real life? Devs are also students of history, culture, tactics etc and the way content and encounters cannot be fully removed from real life, past and present.
As players we get a sense of realism because we do look at the game thru the lens of real world knowledge. That being the case, we learn about the game world rules as they are presented. But sometimes they need to take shortcuts, even with their own established rules. And we as players will decide if they get a pass or not..
You might want to refrain from using the word “we” so liberally, and just speak for yourself, rather than making the assumption that other players believe as you do.
(edited by Teon.5168)
/smh at some posters who insist at comparing real life war with an mmorpg. You can’t be serious…….and if you are……..uh, it is JUST a game……(the mmorpg). ….set in a fantasy land and a fantasy time……..the key word there is “fantasy”.
Good grief.
.
By the same logic what they are doing is forcing other people to play how they want..
That statement makes absolutely no sense whatsoever.
How, exactly, do you “force” people to “play how they want”? That is completely contradictory.
I have to agree with Rednik…..you’re wanting others to play the way you think team pvp should be played. The way around that, is to field a full team. I know, easier said than done……but if you only field a partial team, and then expect the other players that fill out your team to have the same seriousness or mindset about pvp as you do, I can guarantee you’ll be disappointed/frustrated at least 80% of the time.
With that being said, you still can’t expect people to play the game the way you think is best. Might be the best way to you, but that doesn’t mean it works for other players. Doesn’t matter if there is a ladder system or not……everyone paid the same initial price for the game, so they can all play it any way they want. (within the tos, of course)
Not much you can do about that, except to gnash your teeth…..or field an entire team that agrees with your way of playing team pvp. /shrug

I would go with a Midguard healer……they rock and look really cool……………..oh, wait………what game we talking about?
While an ssd is nice, it is not required for 40+fps in game. If the game actually utilized the gpu more, it would run 40fps+ in any game situation on a medium + $$ computer build with a quick, solid internet connection.
Hey, I got an idea on how Anet can fix this. Just don’t have any published leaderboards and/or organized contests for pvp. That would take care of the problem.
(edited by Teon.5168)
bring a necro with you.
LOL….good point…..lol
I generally do not find thieves to be a problem. I leveled one just to learn how they work to fight them. Well that and once a week my guild plays an all “insert profession here” night where 40-50 of us ran all one profession for fun. Learning what stealth duration is and how they will likely move, makes all the difference in the world. Personally, I do not feel thieves are particularly strong enough to go into. The only discussion I feel is needed, is one in which others are educated on how to use their particular build or profession when fighting one
Perfect suggestion. Well said!
Instastealth is a joke.
How so?
Many skills have instant cast. I wouldn’t be against a cast time on some of the skills that allows for a little more counter play. Perhaps in the form of a visual cue that allows for it to be interrupted.
I would hardly call it a “joke” though. Seems to me, if you had a genuine concern, you would be discussing, it rather then making a purely inflammatory comment that contributes nothing to the conversation.
The ability to vanish while in clear view of your opponent is a joke. It’s not inflammatory – it’s fact. I would not have an issue if the thief was required to break line of sight.
Just because I don’t post a wall of text with my issues with the thief and the magic powers of vanishing with zero trace does not make them invalid.
If a thief could not instastealth would it be as popular?
You obviously haven’t played many mmorpgs with stealthers in a wvw/rvr/pvp environment.
Trust me, it could be one hell of a lot worse.
Fwiw, yea, I hate stealthers. But the ones in this game are a lot easier to counter than in some other, older mmorpgs that I have played. In some of the older mmorpgs, even poorly played stealthers were near impossible to beat 1v1 if you didn’t run. (Unless you had one of around 2 specific classes built to specifically beat stealthers)
My suggestion:. build yourself a thief, and take it to 80, then play some pvp to find out how they work, and what works best. And then trying roaming with one in wvw. That way, you’ll know how to counter them better.
Know your enemy.
Beat your enemy.

I’ve been enjoying both GW2 and TESO for quite a while and will continue to do so. In fact, they’re both my fantasy-based MMO’s of choice.
They’re just different enough from one another that I don’t feel like I’m playing the exact same game. Still, among other things, they’re two of the most beautiful looking MMO’s I’d ever experienced.
Agreed
Although LotRo was visually stunning back when I played that, as well.
Also agreed.
Though somewhat less so than both GW2 and TESO (not surprising considering the age disparity), LotRo is still a beautiful game.
Among the other aspects of TESO that I’ve been very impressed with is with many of its quests’ narratives with their interesting twists, turns and resolutions.
Exactly. To me it’s funny when people bring these things up there are several holes in the design of GW2 and if that makes people happy that’s fine but those of us who’ve been around longer who’ve seen just how good a quality game can be (which btw doesn’t have the design flaws this game has because they’ve ignored years of MMO development history of just what works and works well) it’s like there’s a nostalgia glasses thing going on here where they can’t seem to see the flaws because they are trying to hold onto the first time they loaded the game (which btw didn’t have Ascended in it, didn’t have loot nerfs, didn’t have DR, didn’t have squashed Karma, didn’t have alot of the things we have now that made the game worse not better).
LOTRO is a wonderfully beautiful game but one out of the two things it has a problem with is not having evenly spaced leveling, it’s a terrible 2004 system of leveling no doubt perpetrated by the same thoughts the decisions in this title has suffered from in that give people busy work and they’ll stay which has never worked. I like LOTRO but I can’t play it because leveling has become a grind much like Ascended has become a grind here.
Oh and to the guy who said WoW has a purchase max level toons system, it doesn’t it has 10 levels below max, it has a training system to help you prepare for using your class and role properly and it has a system of rewards that you cannot find anywhere else in the game with that system. The NPE system in this game has no training, no example builds, no preloaded builds, no personal instance to help players better understand their class.
Completely agree on LotRo……it was a gorgeous game, but had lots of problems outside of that. Indeed, the leveling system was horribly archaic. That was one game among a few that defined what they meant by “leveling is a grind”.

I just reinstalled ESO, and I find it a nice diversion from GW2 every once in awhile. I never expected it to be as good as gw2, but it has vastly improved since it was first released. I find it is always nice to have another mmorpg or two just to give myself a break every once in awhile.
So far, I find ESO fairly entertaining. It certainly won’t replace GW2 for me…..but I find it to be fun.
I never had a problem with the look of the wings…….just that way, way too many people were wearing them…..made everyone look identical no matter what sort of armor they were wearing.
If you thought it was bad before with all of the pewpew from power necromancers, power rangers and every engineer before… then hold on to your hats!
Thieves are most likely getting rifle, warriors are most likely getting pistols, guardian is getting longbow and revenant has many ranged abilities including 100% physical projectile auto attack.
That’s at least 4 new additions to pewpew. Not including the random tryhard that uses things like pistol thief or longbow/rifle warrior in WvW.
Hammer engineer and greatsword necromancer will both have very little use anywhere (other than maybe PvE) due to lack of stability and the recent stability changes. For example: a necromancer who zerg dives with a greatsword = dead necromancer.
All of these changes coupled with the verticality of the new WvW mode = pewpew for everyone!
OMG!!!! The sky is falling, the sky is falling!!!!!
You’re making an awful lot of assumptions.
Why not just wait and see what happens after the expansion. It might not be anything close to what you’re thinking will happen. And I am not even taking into account what sort of adjustments and such always happens after major expansions.
(edited by Teon.5168)
Geez, dude, lighten up……you’ll live longer.
If I don’t get my Town Clothes back, I don’t WANT to live longer!!!! What’s the fun in looking exactly like every other Tom, kitten, and Harry? It isn’t LIVING if I have to go on this way!!!
How’s that? Any better?
EDIT: Tom, Kitten, and Harry? Oh, brother!
LMAO!!!!!!! Touche’……….lol…..perfect.
P.S. you forgot wings….WINGS!!!!! Guild Wings 2 forevah!!!!
The whole thing disgusts me.
Uh, it is JUST a video game, not some sort of life changing, soul enlightening experience.
I don’t think I have ever played any video game on my pc that didn’t have some clipping and/or graphic anomaly somewhere in it.
It isn’t the little bit of clipping that bothers me. I lost my share of real-life money when they took away Town Clothes. Yes, I got “store credit”, but I (and many other people) were rightly disgusted and remain so to this day. The sentiment against Outfits is far older than this little thread.
Hold a grudge for long?
Geez, dude, lighten up……you’ll live longer.
I know that when I am out playing GW2, you can hear me for miles when I yell and scream about some player/npc I just killed, and their arm on their dead body just disappears into the ground, or their sword slightly protrudes through their hand, or the hair on the back of their head slightly shows through their head armor.
Makes me want to beat the family dog.
I won’t even mention how nuclear I go when I run through an npc or other player, or, god forbid, a substantial tree branch.

Yup. These changes will kill the game by the end of the week. I expect GW2 to close down by the end of the month.
RIP in peace Guild Wars 2 (2012-2015).
I suppose we should organize some sort of wake.
This new BL is gonna give us new options since they’re emphasizing the importance of defending. A zerg with buffs will most likely get the upper hand by a zerg compared to a zerg that doesn’t. Which means there is going to be emphasis on having group roamers alongside zergs. Kinda neat.
Agreed. I think wvw in the new maps will be a ton of fun, once the bugs are all worked out.
Than you have your wish.
The stability changes in WvW were very porly thought through. They may work fine in every other game mode.
The camera changes are disastrous for wvw and the use of the camera to manipulate siege. The camera chages also turn every player into a omega golem and no siege or player is safe on a wall.
These 2 changes have ruined the game for right now. Hopefully the Reverent will fix the stab issues in WvW but I highly doubt it because. We have repeatedly told you that blobing is kitten of your game. And the stab changes are another huge hit to smaller group play if the berserker nerf wasnt already enough.
ANET you just killed your game. Becasue you didn’t think at all.
Yup. These changes will kill the game by the end of the week. I expect GW2 to close down by the end of the month.
Oh, the humanity!!!!!!
With this recent stability change blobbing is going to be even more ridiculous. It’s rendered zerg busting near impossible as all you need is guardians and eles to have everything perma-CC’d. The more the merrier, eh?
I feel like the change was implemented because someone couldn’t CC someone once so they thought “I know, let’s add something that makes stability act like an NPC in PvE so that when tonnes of people all drop CC at once then at least one will work”.
Could anet please play WvW for a change and actually understand how terrible it makes things when it’s just “who has the biggest blob”.
Losing faith in this game more and more rapidly.
Newsflash: any mmorpg with wvw/rvr gameplay has blobs. It is just the nature of the beast. The whole ‘safety in numbers’ thing, ya know.
Doesn’t mean you have to be part of the blobs.
Outfits are just a sing of Anet’s mindset: Fast cash fast.
They don’t want to spend the time to make a polished game with armor that doesn’t clip, so they go the quick and dirty route and make entire outfits that can’t be split up into armor pieces.
 Who can blame them, they are making millions of dollars doing it. The game majority is comprised of people who don’t care or don’t know any better, and until they change their minds and close their wallets, we will continue to get the cheap and easy solutions.
Holy cow, that is one heck of a broad brush that you’re using in your sweeping generalizations. Who knew that you actually had an accurate handle on what the majority of players in this game think/feel. Is that just for the NA servers, or both EU and NA servers?
Hey, to each his/her own. Some people like outfits, some people don’t. Personally, I am waiting to see tons of peeps in crystal nomad outfit with wings.
Then, my world will be complete.
I don’t have a problem with the new camera adjustments. Some of the adjustments have been interesting to play with, but I am pretty much using a default view with a bit wider fov, and it works great. Not sure what these people who are complaining of motion sickness are doing to the camera view to cause that. Must have something to do with the camera shake, which I have turned to off.
*This is coming from a player who has only one character since launch. A ranger.
Let’s Clarify Some Things Together:
Rapid Fire was always this powerful. The only thing they changed was 50% cast time. Rapid Fire was always meant as a spike skill, but, pre-update, it did less damage per second than auto-attack. Since update they decreased the cast time to 50%, nothing else.
With this update the skill lasts 2.5 seconds. Things you can do:
A single dodge roll lasts .75 seconds. Which negates roughly 1/3 the skill.
Two consecutive dodges, 1.50 seconds. Which negates roughly 2/3 the skill.
Protect negates 33% of the damage.
A block skill, counterattack, lasts 3 seconds. This negates 100% the skill.
Line of sight. The negates 100% the skill.
Reflect. This negates 100% the skill.
Retaliation. Returns 198 + (0.075 * Power) of the victim.
Etc…Let’s look at the weapon:
As the name implies, long range. Sure, but Engineers can throw grenades just as far and backwards.
1. Autoattack, useful only at range.
2. Burst skill, dodgeable, blockable, etc. Useful as an opening attack.
3. Stealth. Useful for stomping or short escape, but long cooldown means if this is avoided, your day is ruined.
4. Point Blank Shot. Useful for ledges or heal interruptions.
5. Barrage. Generic AoE damage for tagging.Let’s look at some cons:
If you get close, the ranger is going to have to change weapon or suffer.
If the ranger is moving, they cannot attack flanks or sides. (If you’re chasing, your in a good spot).
Provides zero mobility.
Other than power, provides zero other uses.Let’s sum it up together:
Sure, longbow is a bit cliche, but it’s the ranger niche. Other classes may use a more wide array of builds, but this is a rangers go-to build. It’s also extremely easy to counter and leaves the ranger basically defenseless. If you want a perfectly balanced game, go elsewhere. There’s going to be pro/con for each build, but we could go the route and remove all the good builds from the game, if that’s what everyone wants. No more hambow, no more infi-stealth thieves, no more shatter bombs, no more ice bow…
Longbow Ranger on ledge = stay away. Longbow Ranger on open field = dead.
Excellent post.
Main reason why people complain about ranger is because they used to be USELESS in all aspects of game for a period of time after Anet nerfed SB, quickness, spirits, pets and so on. They are also completely useless in zerg fight before the LB buff. Now they suddenly become a threat to unorganized group, people who usually treat ranger as a free bag and useless wet noodle suddenly have to deal with ranger, so they’re enraged and start complaining about ranger being OP, because they want ranger to be as useless as it once was.
I have to agree with this. My main, and my first 80 was a ranger……hit 80 on him quite a long while ago…….and yea, back in the early days, my ranger was not much more than a mere annoyance with his longbow. Sure, I could take down really inexperienced players…..but anyone half competent would just laugh at my character, get the easy kill(if I stuck around) or just ignore me altogether. Rangers back then were not very useful…….they became a challenge to us masochists to get decent with one in a good wvw battle. I tried the glass cannon build, briefly……but I hated having absolutely no staying power in a fight.
And then came the ‘buffs’ to the longbow…….bringing it to a point where it is now a pretty useful weapon, when played properly. And some more adjustments to ranger over time that made it more viable and useful in wvw……all good things that brought the character closer to the level of other character’s usefullness/utility in wvw.
It is actually a very fun character to play, now…….I run a lb – sw/horn build with traits that allow me to do decent damage and have decent staying power in a fight. Back in the early days I could have never run this build without being complete cannon fodder.
I like the adjustments that have been made to the ranger……and, imo, they were/are needed.
And, as other posters have noted, a decent player can still pretty easily nullify a longbow’s range/damage.
So yea, the qqs in this thread are pretty humorous.
(edited by Teon.5168)
I was just experiencing this yesterday in wvw, when just jumping down some stairs quickly while running back and forth building siege. Bug has been around for awhile…..good to read they have finally fixed it!
I would agree with Nuzt. I played a few weeks ago on FA, and the ques were very unpredictable. Some nights, not much…..other nights, just ridiculous. While there I heard that SoS que times were a lot more bearable.
I would think that with your off hours work schedule, you should probably have pretty good success playing on T2 servers. Of course, Friday night after reset is a no go for either T1 or T2……that night you’ll be looking at massive ques.
I really like the sound of this change…..can’t wait to try it out!
I have been playing GW2 since a month after release, and I still don’t find it to be a grind and/or boring. If it gets to that point for me, I will quit or take an extended break.
Why not take a break and wait until the new expansion comes out? The expansion will at least give you some new things to do/try.
Or, just find a different game to play that is more entertaining for you. Nothing wrong with that.
Best of luck!
This sounds like the OP hasn’t been playing the game very long.
After reading the WoW forums where they might have hours of waiting in a queue during busy times, I can see his concern. We are lucky to have a game that doesn’t have log on queues or has hours of downtime maintenance every week.
Oh yea, definitely agree with that…..especially the downtime maintenance part.
I just don’t think the OP realizes just how many servers need more people. The top 2 tiers are not representative of the state of the remainder of the servers. Adding more servers would just make the underpopulation problems in wvw for the lower tier servers even worse. Of course, I am speaking from an NA server point of view.
Plus, with the whole megaserver concept, and putting players into ‘overflows’ when the in game pop gets high, the possibility of que times to get into the game is pretty much a non factor. The OP doesn’t sound like he/she even knows about the megaserver system that is in place for GW2.
(edited by Teon.5168)
Palleon, you did absolutely nothing wrong. As one of the previous posters mentioned, there are those that take this game as seriously as open heart surgery. Just ignore them, laugh at their juvenile responses, and continue playing the game and enjoy it!
This sounds like the OP hasn’t been playing the game very long.
All these assumptions before it ever becomes real. I will reserve judgement until I see it in game.
Siege is part of the game and using it smartly ANYWHERE on the map in any situation is also part of the game. Not sure what the problem is here…TexZero, it’s quite clear that you are a new WvW player or simply just trolling.
This coming from one of our better commanders in Kaineng wvw. Sorry, Tex, but Dangleon is spot on.
And btw, Dangleon……I love running with your groups in wvw. Always fun, even when we’re vastly outnumbered. You’re an excellent commander!
Let’s just re-examine where I’m coming from:
There are only FIVE races in this game, and I can’t name all 5. I don’t know how many classes there are, and the ones I do know, I don’t know what they do. (What the heck does an Engineer do?)
There’s no desire to learn about them, because there’s no reason to. All grouping via a dungeon ends up with somebody tanking while I sit in the back hitting 2 and 5. People say that WoW conditioned players to just heal, dps, or tank, how is this any different?
I was a Gladiator in that game. I had to know stats, how to enchant, how to gem, how to itemize, what skills every class did, how to properly time abilities – none of that is required here.
I had actual goals laid out – you log in, you do your dailies that actually lead to gear, and that helps you in a larger raid with a large number of people, with a clear goal and progression. Dailies in this game are: log in, do 3 things, get some karma and gold.
My guild has about 100 people, and nobody is ever on. And the only reason I’m in it was I had nobody to actually talk to at 80 because there is no grouping in this game so where exactly would I find people? A guild, in my mind, is a group of players who have the same goals in mind (endgame content) and want to work together. Here, it’s just people with a tag. There’s no 10, 15, 25, 40 man content, and everything I can do with my guild I can just do in LFG or solo. What’s the point?
For an mmo, there seems to be very little structure. It’s like, instead of having 10 or 25 maximum players for content, and having lots of it, there’s just random world bosses that any number of people can do, and then 5 man dungeons. So I’m supposed to go to a timer website, then every 15 minutes go to the next world boss with 300 people and get a chest of yellow items that I sell for 20-25s on the trading post and just gather more ascended materials I don’t need and can’t sell?
And that’s it? Just do that?
After all the constructive responses in this thread that you obviously chose to ignore…….quit wasting your time with this game. All of your responses have indicated that you’ll never enjoy this game.
Excellent posts, Pax & Invoker!
I spent 2 hours in the Silverwastes
Pretty fun, I earned 5g, and a ton of crests, and then I just kind of thought ‘ok, now what’ and went back to my 100% completion goal
I don’t have anything to buy with the money, I have literally zero interest in either bow legendary and I didn’t pick this character to use a greatsword
My guild is nice enough, but with no > 5 man content it’s kind of like, why am I in a guild exactly? I can do a dungeon or fractal or content solo or in a pug, so other than having the same people to talk to, I don’t get it
The 100% completion will keep me busy, but other than that I don’t see a reason to log on
It’s kind of an analog really: 1 -> 80 is a single player JRPG or WRPG storyline, and then you beat the game. Now you just have a bunch of side quests and 100% achievements to get for your PSN or XBL score, but there’s really nothing beyond that and there’s no point to any of it because you don’t have anything to do with any gear you get
The big, open world 200 man pug dailies and events I can basically right click and tab out and look at stuff then tab in 3 minutes later and get a chest
There’s no DPS logs, I have no idea how my damage compares to others, and there doesn’t seem to be any reason to try to improve because, again, there’s no end game or goal in sight
You pretty much answered your own questions in the above post. It really doesn’t sound like this game is for you, especially with the ‘get to 80, beat the game’ attitude. That is not what this mmorpg is about, and you’ll obviously be seriously disappointed with the game if you approach it that way.
I suggest, as others have, that you look for a more linear mmorpg. Or maybe even just a single player fps game with online abilities to group with a few of your friends.
Best of luck finding a game that is better suited to your playstyle!
I think you misunderstood his post. He didn’t answer his own question. He wasn’t saying that he was looking for a game that’s “get to 80, beat the game”, he was saying that GW2 seems to be just “get to 80, beat the game” and that he doesn’t like that. Because that’s what GW2 really is. You get to 80, buy exotics gear, beat the Personal Story and Living Story and after that there really isn’t much meaningful stuff to do in GW2 unless grinding for skins or doing WvW/PvP is your thing.
I took it that he meant since he got to 80, he had beat the game, and there wasn’t anything else that interested him, after that.
And I still find lots of stuff to do with my 80s. But then again, I am not looking for any sort of ‘endgame’ when I play mmorpgs. I am a casual player that can’t play the game for hours every day and I am in no hurry to ‘beat’ this game. I do fps games if I want to actually ‘beat’ a game.
There is so much more to this game…….the social aspect with friends……my wife and I helping each other and adventuring together in the game……the silliness of pvp…….the fun of wvw…….becoming involved with the story…….just enjoying the fun of it all.
And I don’t think I have ever grinded for a skin. GASP!

No. After closed beta, it will probably go through a series of open betas, which may or may not be open for all to try. Most people are guessing that it will be released sometime during the summer.
And welcome to the game!
