What in my post, are you theatened by?

I am not threatened by anything in your post. I don’t place any importance on it at all(it’s a slow day and I am bored)……but this comment…..

“but I promise you, there will be another to take its place, until anet does something extraordinary.”

Grrrr……“I promise you!!!”…….“until anet does something extraordinary!!”………lol…..seriously? That is what comes off as some sort of silly, empty threat……..lol……..And what will you do if Anet does nothing extraordinary?…….lol

Whether you agree or not, the number one complaint against this game is the lack of “playable content”.

First you say this, implying that your opinion is fact with a statement such as “the number one complaint”……..so, how do you know that? Besides the fraction of a percentage of the players that post here? What is your basis for that statement?

And then you say this in the very same post……….

I am pointing out for many people this game needs to offer more viable content, and less window dressing.

So, now it has gone from the “number one complaint” to “for many people”……so which is it?

When I speak, I speak from my own opinion based on what I have seen, Only anet has the statistics of how many posts have been requesting new content. As far as my wording. Any complaint that is considered to be the top complaint would encompass many people.

So you’re speaking of the “many” that post this here on these forums?

Ok, so that’s maybe 1/10th of 1% of the actual players of this game, if that(I am being generous….am also including your in game friends who might have said something)

So yea, ok….I agree with you……it’s the #1 complaint of a very small percentile of the actual playerbase.

Maybe this is why you don’t see Anet doing anything about it. But, feel free to keep on jousting that windmill……

This thread may eventually go away, but I promise you, there will be another to take its place, until anet does something extraordinary.

Oh man, that’s rich. When people disagree with you, or make fun of how many times this sort of thread has popped up on these forums……you threaten posters and Anet.

I am sure they are very, very concerned………maybe you could turn it into some sort of grassroots protest………hey, here’s an idea!…..boycott the game!!!! Yea, that will get them all!!!!…………….yawn.

I hadn’t thought of that, Mishi. Interesting suggestion…..might just try that.

It just seems as if you enjoy what you’re playing in now, the only downfall is the queues from your post.
Sadly I do not know NA times very well, due to being more of an OCX/SEA/EU player due to work. I do know on reset nights JQ can queue 2-3maps for maybe 1-2hours during NA times(Or pacific NA to be more specific.)

I wish you luck in finding a place you can play in, have fun, and have quick queues. (20minutes to move 2 spots sounds horrid, a bit like the old days haha.)

If you love the T1 wvw action you may want to check out JQ or BG which dont have queue’s as often. (From what it sounds from your post.)

Just what T1 needs… more bandwagon jumpers to JQ.

OP stated all they like playing T1, and I said to check out JQ/BG because they weren’t happy with Queues on TC. So no, it’s not a bandwagon player, just someone who likes T1, and doesn’t want to wait in queue for 20minutes to move 2 spots. I don’t know what BG queue’s are, nor TC’s however from what the OP and others have made it sound, TC has longer queues then JQ/BG does.

TC ques on reset night are just absurd. I usually make a point to do something besides wvw if I play Friday night. And if I were to transfer to another of the T1 servers, I would look for the one that is consistently on the bottom……

Thanks for the good wishes, Mishi……the ques might get better after the Christmas vacation break…..

Good points, XTD. I think the ques on weeknights will probably disappear after Christmas break……there usually is not much in the way of ques on weeknights(except Friday reset), and I hadn’t even thought about Christmas break and all the extra people that might be on.

I will keep trying for a few weeks, and if it doesn’t get better, I might do some more checking on a T4 server……I know that will be a lot less action than T1……but keep in mind that I originally came from Kaineng, a T8……and it was a ghost town there……T4 would probably be just fine for me, if T1 ques don’t get any better.

NVidia, not AMD.

Get an ASUS motherboard.

For no better reason than that they’re cheap get a 4TB HHD. I recommend a 120ishGB SSD for your OS. Always have a separate partition if not entirely separate drive to store things so you don’t wipe it all out if you have to reinstall the OS.

Either Nvidia or Amd video card……they’re both comparable…all depends on which offers better bang for the buck for you. My wife’s machine has a nvidia(gtx) and I have an amd(ati radeon), and we’re happy with both cards when it comes to the game.

While ASUS makes some very, very nice motherboards,(I have owned several) you’ll pay extra just for the name. You can get really nice, very dependable gaming motherboards for a lot less…..just do your research on them.

Completely agree on the HD suggestion.

You’re missing a power supply and not a fan of that CPU cooler. Sadly being after Xmas holiday my preferred choice of inexpensive air cooler, the Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO is out of stock.

As for a PSU, this will suffice nicely.

i was talking with a friend and he said i didnt need the cooler becuase some else came with one

You need to be careful with some mid tower cases and some of the larger video cards. There are some cards that will have problems with some mid towers due to their length in relationship to where the hard drives are mounted in the case. Read some of the reviews on the video card and you’ll see some saying it cramps everything in their midtower case. Not a huge deal, but something to be aware of.

Wrong section for this

That said I do not exactly agree with Pax’s comment “mid/high-end graphics card 770,970, or r9 280 <- is more important then your CPU”. Since you noted that you were interested in mmo performance…your cpu matters more imo. You could run this game perfectly fine on a 100 dollar gpu and an upgrade to 300 dollar one would not really add much at all. However the difference between kitten (really how does 50 dollars get filtered) cpu and a $250 cpu will be rather noticeable.

Edit…I would not recommend that pre-built with the a-10 linked for this.

Edit#2…You can get a perfectly fine PSU for 30-50 bucks. There’s no reason to go overboard.

Yea, I have also heard that GW2 is more cpu intensive than gpu.

That being said, I run the game at high graphic levels with an older, overclocked AMD phenom II cpu and an older ATI radeon hd 8000 series card…..and it runs just fine….normally around 50-60 fps…

I do have to turn down the graphic levels during the huge T1 blob fights in wvw when there are well over 80+ people fighting, and in huge champion boss pve fights……but that is acceptable for me, when my rig’s internals are fairly old.

The higher end AMD cpus work just fine, imo, especially if you want to save some decent $$$ on the build. /shrug

Well Crius, maybe I am too casual to enjoy WvW these days then. I do appreciate the guidance though. Seriously I just want to log in and have some stupid fun, I remember being able to do that before. Perhaps the game has passed me by.

It is still very possible to be a casual player and enjoy WvW. I play a ranger mostly, and am very casual, and I have a heck of a fun time in WvW. But I have also spent some time experimenting with builds/trait setups and reading a lot on suggestions for my character. Just spend some time cruising the web looking at different suggestions for your character, and then don’t be afraid to mess around with some different builds until you find one that fits your playstyle. It doesn’t take that long, even for a casual player, and once you find something that works for you, it sure increases the fun factor.

Best of luck!

So, I transferred a while back to TC from Kaineng. While I absolutely love the wvw action on TC, I am starting to get a bit sick of the ques. Last night I was going to do wvw with the guild I belong to, and the que was only 10 deep, so I figured….that won’t be too long. LOL…..after 20 minutes and it just getting down to 8, I gave up and went and helped my wife with her daily.

The ques don’t happen all the time, but it is starting to get pretty annoying not being able to get into wvw when I want to. Probably comes from originally coming from Kaineng and never having ques.

Anyways, my question is……what would you all recommend for a good tier 2 or 3 server for wvw? Something with excellent wvw action, but very few ques.

Thanks for any and all help!

Plain and simple, completing events should still be a part of PvE and/or WvW dailies. Without them as a part of dailies, there is basically no reason to go back into regular pve areas once you’re level capped. Rather big difference actually.

Expansion Thread [merged]

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Teon.5168

Wrong. GW2 does not need an expansion, and it is far from needing one critically. I’ve said it so many times already that I don’t even feel like typing out the full response. Just, no. You’re paranoid / unable to see the full picture, just no.

Yeah GW2 doesn’t need anything. GW2 could continue releasing content at a snails pace and slowly shrink and fade into obscurity as an example of how not to manage a MMO. And no one is able to see the big picture as Anet refuses to talk about future content releases, a communication policy that in my opinion is a farce, an example of how not to do things in an industry where communication with your player base is essential to success.

What you quoted, and what you posted are exactly the same thing…….subjective opinions…….and nothing more. There are probably valid points in both, depending on who you talk to.

I love this idea. I hate people saying you can’t please everyone. You may not be able to please every single last person but pleasing the large majority is doable.

I would be willing to bet that the “large majority” isn’t even posting on these forums. They’re most likely spending their time playing the game, rather than posting here.

That being said, I agree that Anet is most likely trying to appeal to the largest majority with their changes/updates. The most current patch certainly needs some tweaks….and I think/hope that will be forthcoming fairly soon.

New Dailies and random PvP

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Well, if it hasn’t already been posted……the new dailies make the random pvp arenas completely useless. They’re not even good for testing builds anymore, as one can just go in there, sit around, do nothing, and get the daily reward. I figured players would still try in those areas, but no. Most just sit around until the match ends to get the daily ding.

Not that they were much good for anything in the first place…..but now, they’re just daily ding areas, and nothing else.

Buying traits: annoying for alts I agree, but I like the system. Maybe make it so that unlocking lower level traits is account wide would solve this problem.

Dailies I am half in agreement with. If they upped the number of dailies requires to four, but then added four universal achievements (dodges, kills etc.) I think a lot of the problems would be fixed. Also the four events in a map thing, whilst I appreciate what they are trying to do, is an exercise in frustration and cancels out the pleasure of getting to revisit an old map.

I agree that the Living World feels more static now, but I prefer the current system.

I totally agree about unlocking weapon skills and personal story.

Some excellent points……love your dailies idea!

The New Dailies -- Feedback welcome

I also have limited play time…

And yet you had enough time to write this post. In the same amount of time it took you to write this you could have viewed a vista and checked off one of your daily tasks.

But no, you’d rather spend that precious time of yours complaining about it here.

Funny how that works.

Unfortunately – and I’d like to emphasize this because what you’re ignorantly saying about my life is so ridiculous – I can’t play GW2 at my full time job. But I can hang out on the forum during my breaks. Which is when I’ve written both of these posts. I have maybe an hour of play time per day if I really want to not spend much evening time with my family or never play a different game. I absolutely don’t agree that the five minutes my posts take are how long the new dailies take, but I’m sure it varies per person.

I understand if you don’t agree with my post (a lot of people have made decent points to the contrary of mine) but perhaps try addressing the content instead of attacking me via some straw man scenario. I know my life best: when I tell you my time is precious, sit down and listen.

On topic, I will say the change has forced me to PvP to get them done quickly and to avoid the zerging of zone-specific events. It’s alright but only really fun when guildies are willing to flop with me. I still prefer that the world boss daily be less specific. Other daily tasks of increased specificity are bound by zone, not time.

Fair enough. And fwiw, I have adjusted my opinion on the new dailies, after watching my wife’s frustration with them. She is just a pve player, and now has a much harder time completing dailies than she ever did. So I can sympathize with the PvE players…..a couple more choices need to be added back to each category, imo, so that PvE players have some more choices instead of just the few that are so limiting.

This change wasn’t very well thought out, imo, as it causes possible frustration to the largest segment of the player base….the PvE players. I think Anet needs to adjust the choices back towards the number they used to have…….they went too far with the limitations/choices.

Or I like the idea of one of the previous posters……you already get the laurel just for signing in, so why not just change the dailies to getting a certain number of AP/rewards depending on how many you complete…..rather than having to do all 3 if you don’t want to. Something like 3ap for doing one, 6ap for doing 2, and 10ap for doing all 3.

For those of us players who do all parts of the game(pve, pvp, wvw) none of this matters, as we don’t have much problem with the new setup. And that’s where I was initially coming from……my own experience. After watching the problems my wife was having with them, it opened my eyes to the larger player base that this all effects. After seeing the other side to it all, Anet’s decision to do this doesn’t really seem to make a whole lot of sense to me. Why on earth would you want to possibly upset the largest portion of your players???? Someone wasn’t thinking far enough ahead, imo, or had blinders on, like I initially did.

My apologies, kimeekat, if I intially came off as a real kitten over all this…..I wasn’t looking at the complete impact of the change.

The New Dailies -- Feedback welcome

Today’s choices(after reset last night) are a good example of how limited some of the pve choices have become. Players like me, who do all aspects of the game, don’t have much trouble with it……but other players, like my wife, who pretty much do just pve….look at today’s choices and don’t have any options. A couple pve choices, and then the rest are fractals, wvw, or pvp. This creates a definite problem with those pve only players, as it forces them to go outside their comfort zone to complete the daily…..in other words, forcing them to play in a way that they don’t want to.

Anet needs to add another choice or two across the board so that PvE players can still do what they enjoy to complete dailies….rather than limiting the choices so much where they either won’t do the daily, or they’re forced to play part of the game they don’t necessarily enjoy.

My wife was really frustrated with the game last night, and the obvious lack of pve choices in the dailies. I can imagine that other pve only players felt the same way. And since pve is the major thrust of this game, that is annoying the largest player segment of the game. Not very wise, Anet….and I think it needs to be changed a bit to give more choices to pve players.

I also agree with Astral’s post above….some very good points made. I especially like adding back the dodge and interrupt dailies, as they are good training tools for newer players.

Why play if there’s no fruit?

No matter how bright and gifted you think the developers of this game might be, they aren’t going to change the game to suit your needs specifically, as they then risk alienating a ton of other players who like the game just as it is(tweaks not withstanding).

Best of luck finding that game that fits you! And I seriously do mean that. It is obvious that what you want and/or need in a game does not lie in GW2 as it currently exists.

I never expected the Devs to change the game specifically for me. The forums are a place of ideas. I put a lot of my ideas out there on how to make the game better because
I like the game.
What you call “negativity” is my desire to see a improvements.

I am not sure how my suggestions, or any implemented changes would alienate other players. There certainly have been massive changes in the past. (ex-the MF system, Karma, dailies, etc were completely overhauled) I suppose those overhauls didn’t upset you because Anet did them rather than a player suggesting them? You sound very much like a white knight to me.

You wish me well in a another game. What I hear is: “I like the game exactly how it is (unless the devs change it then I’ll love that) so go away.”

Still, I will probably take your advice and go away at least for a while. I’m due for a break. The game is stale for the reasons I stated. perhaps I’ll revisit it later to check for changes, perhaps not.

Certainly the response I expected. I disagree with you, therefore I am a supposed white knight……and then you go on and completely change the meaning of my post.

Well done.

At least you’re predictable in your responses.

Have you ever thought……“maybe it is not the game”?

Am I playing this game wrong or something? I seriously have no troubles with what they’re doing with the game and I’ve almost got 5k playing hours…

I guess you just enjoy grinding. Nothing wrong with that. It’s just that some people don’t. And I’m pretty sure that one of GW2’s…“features”…was “nearly grind-free game”. Which is a bit ironic nowadays.

I’ve never grinded in this game…

Try again

Agreed. Same here. The majority of this thread is just subjective opinion trying to be presented as fact. Fun to watch, but completely pointless in the end.

Why play if there’s no fruit?

You pretty much answered you’re own questions right there.

I enjoy playing the game, but it is quite obvious from your posts(this one and previous ones) that you do not.

I am not sure what you think the game should become to satisfy your needs.
Play a game for entertainment and fun, not for constant frustration at unachievable goals that you have set for yourself.

I would suggest finding a game that suits your time constraints better.

I know you don’t want to hear that “find a game that you enjoy” stuff, but it is very, very obvious that you’ll never get the sort of entertainment from this game that you’re looking for. I really don’t know what it is that you’re looking for in an mmorpg, but it most certainly does not exist for you in GW2. Most of your posts here are of a very negative nature, so it is very clear that you don’t like this game much.

No matter how bright and gifted you think the developers of this game might be, they aren’t going to change the game to suit your needs specifically, as they then risk alienating a ton of other players who like the game just as it is(tweaks not withstanding).

"Play How I Want" Is Gone

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Teon.5168

Teon.5168

The game screamed “play how I want” and “freedom” back then, and now it screams “fool-proof”, “gated”, “spoonfed”.

No, it really didn’t.

I can’t get the Balthazar backpack skin by playing how I want. I can’t get fractal skins by playing how I want. I can’t get dungeon skins by playing how I want. I can’t get jumping puzzle rewards for playing how I want. I can’t get the new skins from Silverwastes or the bug weapons in Dry Top by playing how I want. I couldn’t even do all the dailies and monthlies before by playing how I want.

This game has never (caveat: since I started playing, well over a year ago) been about getting everything by playing how I want.

What it has had is the ability to get the top equipment by playing how you want. Just like the quote says. It has never represented otherwise, and has never been otherwise.

If it cannot match up to your subjective standards for what you want it to be like, that is not the fault of the game, nor is it “going back” on their vision.

“Play how I want” is just some entitled community drivel that’s chanted to justify, “I don’t like this, change it because [reasons].” This is a game, and by the definition of “playing the game” you are playing by (and therefore confined to) the rules set forth by this game.

Play the game, or don’t; but you don’t make the rules unless you make the game.

Actually “Play how I want” was a main selling point for GW2 and did not just come from thin air, it is a Dev quote- look it up.

It was a main selling point. I agree with you there. Which is why I’m often nonplussed over how many people try to twist it to mean something it didn’t. Two, three years later, out of context, people try to make it sound like it means that I should be able to get specific rewards by doing anything I choose to do. That’s not how it was at launch and that’s not how it is now.

At launch, if you specifically wanted armor from a dungeon, you had to do that dungeon. Now you can do that dungeon or PvP for that set.

When laurels were put in the game, we had to do dailies to get the laurels. Now we can just log in.

The new changes give you more and better rewards for doing specific content, and the only thing they don’t do it give you more achievement points for doing what you want.

Achievement points are a nicety. You can play this game and ignore achievements completely. But in the old method of doing dailies, for me to get 10 achievement points in a day, I definitely could not play how I want.

That may still be true. However, I’m more likely to find 3 things I can do with relatively little effort now to get those 10 points, than before.

People seem to be confusing the idea that the old daily reward is being withheld from us. We get that without doing anything.

In the old system I spent a lot more time doing random stuff to get a couple of achievement points. Now I can do what I want MORE..because getting 10 points takes me less time.

Well said, Filaha and Vayne. Completely agree.

Teon, you would be amazed what I have been able to do at 10FPS. but quick, persion timed jumps, or it would seem bell notes, are beyond me.

Back in the day, I used to play military flight sims with a buddy of mine…..on an old 386 machine…..we were lucky to get 15fps…..it is doable, but man, do you ever have to anticipate things……at 10fps…..the bell choir would be the last thing I would ever try…..lol.

What dailies do ppl hate?

Apparently anything that might be slightly different than what they were used to with the old system.

Teon — let’s be fair. The system changed in significant ways, and some players are going to prefer the new one, others the old. I don’t think it’s fair to flag the feedback here (or at least all the feedback here ) as a straight comment or whine against change itself. Try to view the input more along the lines of “I liked the old system better” or even “I think [this change] would have been preferable.” In the end, each player is entitled to his/her opinion and is free to share it here (as long as it’s not off the rails on language, of course).

I was being sarcastic with my remark….hence the winking smiley face at the end of it. I know everyone is entitled to their own opinion, no matter how weird it might be.

But, you do have to admit….there are a few here who will complain about anything changed, or not changed, for that matter, in the game.

You seem to be missing the major point.

I played about 10 songs and have a grand total of 5 correct notes. It doesn’t seem to matter when i hit the key, I don’t get credit. Maybe it is the fact I, on a good day, play at 10FPS (this is also why I don’t do speed/time based jump puzzles) and so when I think it is the right time to hit the key the game says it has already passed. I had this problem getting my 10 wave jumps at Teq. Some days I have to jump way early and other days i don’t just because on some days I lag more than others.

I would say the problem is your computer and/or internet connection. If you’re only getting 10fps on a good day, how on earth are you able to play any part of this game?

View a vista? Really?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Teon.5168

Teon.5168

I guess I’d like to ask people: Where does it End?

So Anet after a few weeks looks at their metrics. Everyone is going to the same/easiest vista. They’ve gone into a routine. Well this is not what they intended! So what now. Do they spend time and money on naming each vista and randomizing them into the daily: View Vista1 in Kryta, View Vista2 in Kryta, View VistaX in Y. Where does it end?

Are you seriously that hung up on the vista thing? If you don’t want to do the vista, then don’t do it. I am sure there will be plenty of times when I won’t do the vista(just because the daily will have a couple things I can do in wvw while fighting).

I don’t know, it is probably not important at all……just curious why the viewpoint thing is bugging you so much? Why didn’t the gathering, or recycler option of the old dailies not bug you as much?

Is it because of the specific language in the update?

You don’t have to answer any of my questions……just curious, but it is no biggy.

I am trying to understand how viewing a vista is any different or more annoying than daily laurel vendor, karma spender, wvw badge vendor, daily gatherer, or any other daily that involves walking up to a point and pushing F. if this annoys you the old system should have annoyed you too.

Yup. Agreed.

View a vista? Really?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Teon.5168

I logged in to do my dailies and one of them was to view a vista in ascalon. I lol’d and said ok. I had a character parked in Black Citadel and went to one of the easiest vistas in the city and in less than 10 secs had that one checked off my checklist. Ugh! Why!? Just…uh…why!?

So if the intent of the new dailies was to get me to experience new things and places, welp it failed. IT FAILED. A huge majority of players when faced with this item on their checklist will take the path of least resistance and always go to the easiest vista to check that item off their list. You’ve created a chore for the player base.

Here’s how you get people to experience new things and new places….CREATE NEW THINGS AND NEW PLACES! STOP ALTERING CONTENT AND PASSING IT OFF AS NEW CONTENT. Sometime I feel as if Anet is just rearranging the furniture and calling it a new living room.

NPE – rearranging & removing furniture. Trait Overhaul – rearranging furniture. Dailies – rearranging furniture. I think the player base is being trolled.

You’re seriously whining about something that took you all of 10 seconds to complete?

Wow, the game will probably die tomorrow because of this horrid change.

It’s certainly enough to rage-quit over.

/sarcasm off

You’re not understanding. The argument that the new dailies are trying to get us to experience new content doesn’t work. People will take the path of least resistance to check the daily task off their checklist and hence fall into another routine.

1) Find a waypoint that has easiest(least amount of time and effort) vista to view.
2) Waypoint
3) View (but not really because 99.999% of playerbase will escape out of the view.)

What in 1-3 above is gonna make me change my habit if all I want to do is check the kitten item off my daily checklist in the least amount of time possible.

I guarantee you a majority of the players will find the vistas that take the least amount of effort. So let me explain it so its not ambiguous to you. I’m not complaining that it takes 10 secs to do, I’m complaining that its poor game design.

Maybe I’m wrong, but after people have “viewed/but-not-really-viewed-like-the-game-designers-intended-us-to-view” the same vistas over and over and over and over and over and over, welp, I think some of us are gonna rage.

Then go ahead and rage. The rest of the players will be playing the game, shrugging at the 10-30 seconds it took to get 1 daily accomplished, think nothing of it, and move onto the next task, or whatever part of the game they feel like doing.

Btw, with the time it took for your last post, you could have taken care of the harvest or mining daily and now had 2 of your daily tasks done.

But then again, complaining about it is so much more fun, huh?

And yes, most of us players who have been playing the game for awhile will try and complete these tasks as quickly as possible. Others that are newer to the game?? Yea, it might actually get them to check out areas on the map they haven’t been to. And then again, maybe not. Probably all depends on the player.

But if you feel the need to rage about something so incredibly minor, knock yourself out.

Me, I get a lot more aps and laurels with the new patch. I like it.

Fair enough. I wont begrudge you if want to praise Anet for rearranging the furniture.

“rearranging the furniture” is your little pet phrase, not mine. /shrug

I’m sorry, but I just don’t hold the same sort of obsession with bits of Anet’s language in patches, or with fairly minor changes to certain parts of the game. I am too old to fly off the handle about something so completely inconsequential in the grand scheme of things. It is a GAME, and I treat it as such. My life won’t be changed, or screwed up, or lifted from the depths, or whatever because of some changes to a game.
I enjoy GW2, and when it comes to games and entertainment, that is ALL that counts with me. To enjoy, to have fun, to smile, to be satisfied with the down time that gives me a break from real life…..that is the point of a game with me.

I won’t obsess about little bits of language, or go off because something minor was tweaked or changed, or rage about something in game that goes against what I think the game should or shouldn’t be. Heck, I hardly even think about that stuff, as long as I am having fun. If I were to get to that sort of stress level about it, you wouldn’t even see me here or in game anymore.

Maybe if I was still in my late teens/early 20s I might rage about similar things. But not anymore…..it is just not worth it.

I like most of this last patch. I still enjoy the game a lot. It is as simple as that.
