To laptop or not to laptop

in WvW

Teon.5168

I have a guildy friend who had to sell his desktop and downsize due to a new baby in the family. Some people just don’t have the room for a full desktop.

He got himself a nice MSI gaming laptop for around $1500 and is really happy with it. From what I have heard from friends who use Asus or MSI or Alienware gaming laptops, they have been quite pleased with them. Sure, if it is a 17", you’re going to be lugging around 10 lbs, and the battery life is cruddy, and they do get warm.

But if you’re ok with that, keep them plugged in most of the time, and maybe get an added cooler pad to help with the cooling….they work quite well, from what I have heard and read.

I have an older desktop(AMD 970 with a Nvidia GTX 970) that I use for my games and such, and I also have a 5 year old laptop that I use for business, and I have been considering getting an MSI gaming laptop for both my graphics oriented business, as well as to try some games on…..some of the newer gaming laptops look very, very interesting, imo. Although I couldn’t see paying more than $1600 for it…..any more than that, and I could just get myself a sub $900 newer business laptop and do a hell of an upgrade on my old full tower desktop. (new motherboard, memory, Intel cpu, and ssd)

Nah it’s gonna be an underwater map. Full zone blobs going at it with spears and tridents. Positioning is gonna have a whole new dimension. Instead of Lords, there will be sea monsters like kraken or Giant Sharks.

Lmao!!!

Good grief, don’t give them any ideas!!!!

Woo for 1 Desert BL

wohooo, EB 64 queue, blue border 32 queue, green border 24 queue, red border 0 queue dead as kitten. the joy its amazing.

this is from T1 btw.

Too bad NA isn’t adapting to DBL like EU. Most of our organized guilds appear to be making fine use of DBL with no one squawking about QQs.

He is EU t1, not NA.

NA has players going to the map. On the weekend, there was queues on DBL (on TC) and EBG … in fact it seems very random to what get queues now. I popped in on saturday and sunday and had some fun at the air keep, and roaming around the map to get better accustomed to it. Still don’t have a clue about siege placement and stuff, but it’s party of the discovery phase that I enjoy.

I can vouch for this…..am on NA T1, and there were definitely queues for dbl at times.

I gotta be honest….it surprised the heck out of me since the ‘experts’ here predicted that the game would instantly die when dbl came back. Just amazing that it hasn’t died. (heavy sarcasm)

Frankly, I love having DBL back. The 2 ABL and 1 DBL setup seems to be working nicely, imo.

4yrs later still server/skill lag

in WvW

Posted by: Teon.5168

Teon.5168

I have said it before in other threads… Doesn’t your machine and internet make a difference? I know that not everyone can afford it but my little gaming laptop doesn’t suffer this lag people speak of. Not even with two enemy zergs in the same spot. Am I just lucky?

Simple answer: Yes. Yes you are.

It doesnt matter whether you play on a 16 core/gtx1080/500mbps machine or a single core potato with a post-it smileyface as GPU and a cup with a string as internet, when the skill queue of an instance get swamped it chokes and cant send requests back to clients fast enough. Ie skills keep blinking even when you dont lag otherwise.

Two zergs fighting is generally not enough to cause it, try three full 80 man borderblobs fighting at once.

ok I will continue to count my lucky stars then. I’ve experienced lag you talk about twice so far this year but nothing recently… I’m currently linked to a T2 matchup but so far I haven’t been in a three way battle of blobs so maybe the lag is coming

I agree though, for the most part this has to be a server capacity issue and who knows if they can/will fix that.

Yea, you, like me, have been lucky. My wife and I are on the same high speed fiber optics isp, and she has a very similar machine as mine, yet she gets lag, when I usually do not. (and we are both hard wired to the isp, neither of our machines is on wifi)Although, she did not used to have so many issues with it. And I have gotten some more lag since the new pve land was introduced. I really don’t know if that has anything to do with it……just seems to be around the same time that the lag has gotten worse.

The lag issues, from what I have read here, and what I have seen happen to my wife while she is playing, and what happens when I play, don’t seem to be very consistent.
Sometimes I will get horrid lag in wvw with large zergs, but most of the time I don’t.

I certainly think, though, that the lag issue is serious enough with enough players where I sure hope they’re looking at how to fix it. Or at least make it so it is less severe.

WvW: Destroyed By Its Own Devs

in WvW

Posted by: Teon.5168

Teon.5168

Edit: And while I may think that linking might not be the best solution, and is kind of goofy at times, it is sure one heck of a lot better than spending most of my time in wvw looking for any good battles in a lower tiered server. At least there is plenty of action out there now most of the time.

This is relative, though. For me, on FC:

BEFORE
+ Decent roaming 35%
+ Good, fun balanced battles 35%
- Over-matched (bad) battles 20%
- Nothing to do 10%

NOW
+ Decent roaming 5%
- Roflstomped by a mini herd while roaming 20%
+ Good, fun balanced battles 10%
- Roflstomped by the unstoppable herd battles 55%
- Running back to be roflstomped again 10%

Now, maybe the subtraction of 10% nothing-to-do was a good thing, but the overall percentage of good went down from ~70% of the time I spent in WvW to ~15%.

Disclaimer: numbers are guesstimates and ommv depending on sever, time of day, etc.

Faik, there’s nothing but balanced battles in higher tiers, but in the depths of T4 NA, two servers and their linkees seem destined to have the other server be someone who belongs in T3 as far as population balance goes. Also, faik, T4 doesn’t matter to the lion’s share of people who play WvW (who are on the higher pop servers).

Finally, to be fair, at least part of the roflstomping I see now seems to be due at least in part to boonshare bull-gravy. Numbers already provide an advantage, but as we know, ANet boons serve as force multipliers which give an even greater advantage to the larger group.

Just be patient. Once Dbl comes back into the mix, you’ll get lots of good roaming opportunities…..and I am saying that in a positive tone.

Plus, I would be curious as to how you arrived at your percentages. I am assuming that it was done with sound statistical analysis?

How do you counter bandwaggoners?

Teon.5168

Why are you worried by " bandwaggoners " when there are no servers that can queue 4 maps even at reset (Eu) . Most of T1 servers got arround 2 active commanders at prime time , and 1 map jump for the rest of 20 hours.
that beeing saiyed , wvw need more active players, not force the active ones to play on certain servers.

Agreed. If you try to restrict people too much, they’ll just leave and play another game.

Servers need to kaboom

in WvW

Posted by: Teon.5168

Teon.5168

My solution is:

  • Raise transfer costs to $50 each time. No gems. Real money.
  • Cap servers that are full. No matter. This will take a long time to see parity, but every time Anet caves, it just reinforces the “vocal minority” thing.

I’m even willing to let transfer fees in gems, since it would take a couple weeks to get that $$$, and hopefully make people think twice about random jumping.

That wouldn’t solve anything. There would still be bandwagoning. You would still see random jumping, and capping the servers and saying tough luck would just cause people to leave.

Stuff, minus the $50 transfer fee(which is just absurd, as no sane game company would do that), has been tried before by other games that had a much higher priority on wvw.
That’ll never happen here.

EQ2 used to charge $75 to transfer your account to another server. And people paid it. Just not that often.

Correct me if I am wrong, but I don’t recall EQ2 having much in the way of large scale wvw.

And just to add, I did edit my original post that quoted a bit.

Nope. But I dropped by the other day and the game is still thriving after 10 years WITH a monthly sub.

So is DaoC. Well, maybe not thriving,(but it is around 16 years old now) but wvw/rvr still has enough subs for the game to still be plugging along. And I can’t believe they’re still asking a sub for DaoC.

GW2 will be the same, at least the PvE part of it,(and I bet wvw, too) and with no sub.

Not saying your idea doesn’t have potential…..just saying, imo, that it won’t happen.

A lot of these ideas being thrown around might make a little sense if GW2 placed more priority on wvw……but they don’t, and they never will when it is a PvE centered game.

I imagine 1 year from now, we’ll see another thread about how wvw is completely dead or on its deathbed. You’d think that 3+ years after all this doom and gloom started, that it should be true by now…….but am still waiting.

There have been several massive population dips. WvW today is nothing like it was 2-3 years ago; abolishing tiers and linking servers isn’t a sign of vitality, rofl.

Agreed that the population has dipped from 2-3 years ago. But that is typical of any older mmorpg. If you think that the numbers have “massively dropped”, I would love to see some hard data/links on that, rather than just conjecture.

Servers need to kaboom

in WvW

Posted by: Teon.5168

Teon.5168

As long as there are real people playing wvw, bandwagoning will exist. If Anet were to do something serious to limit bandwagoning, it would end up being so restrictive to players, that Anet would lose lots of its wvw players.

And some of this talk about wanting the old wvw back……that is remembering through rose colored glasses.

WvW, especially the serious type in games that were created with that mode in mind as being one of the main aspects to play toward(GW2 doesn’t have anything like that)….balance and bandwagoning has, and always will be a difficult, if not impossible problem to remedy. And imo, GW2 doesn’t really have a whole lot of reason to put much effort into that, as there really is no specific reason for wvw in GW2, except for just the sheer fun of it. The scores don’t mean anything, nothing you do in wvw affects your server(or linking), wvw rank doesn’t mean anything except for time spent there, etc….it’s just a fun mode in the game for those that like large scale pvp.

PvE has always been, and will always be, the main priority and focus of GW2.

WvW: Destroyed By Its Own Devs

in WvW

Posted by: Teon.5168

Teon.5168

People who are happy don’t generally flock to the forums, they are a place for the vocal minority to throw their opinions around to garner attention. Anet should just have a poll " do you think server linking is a success, do you wish for it to continue?"

The result will end arguments in these threads.

LMAO!!!! The poll results will not end these stupid arguments from the loud minority here. I still see people posting about how bringing back DBL is the stupidest idea on earth and “MOST” want it gone…..EVEN though in the poll asking if we should keep dbl, that vocal minority that so hated dbls got their butts kicked absolutely sideways, by a 2-1 margin.

But still, some insist that ‘most players hate dbls’, even though the facts don’t even slightly back up that claim.

Just sit back, grab some popcorn, and have a good chuckle at these few that ‘know what’s best for the game’ stumble all over themselves as poll after poll proves them to be the fools that they actually are.

Yea, am sure I will get warned for this post, as I probably just violated all of 5 posters’ safe places.

Edit: And while I may think that linking might not be the best solution, and is kind of goofy at times, it is sure one heck of a lot better than spending most of my time in wvw looking for any good battles in a lower tiered server. At least there is plenty of action out there now most of the time.

Teon.5168

But I dont think you remember them very well or dont play rpgs in general if you simply view leveling as another wall and not rewarding leveling usually gives you new abilities to play with, ways to get more powerful like passives and new active abilities, most games that are not rpgs have a similar form of prorgression even mario makes platforming different as you progress which essentially is what getting new abilities in a game, they are new gameplay elements for one to play with and learn how to master and customize a playstyle. Once you reach endgame there isnt much left beyond a gear grind so it doesnt make sense for someone to say they prefer that over leveling.

Oh, I remember that feeling very well. I felt it in Dark Age of Camelot, which is why I stayed with that game for so long. I was very into that game, the immersion factor was excellent for me, and I did feel the ‘rewards’ and such. As well as that being my first true wvw game, and really getting intense with that aspect. My wife and I ran a decent sized guild for years, and really put our hearts and souls into it. So I do know what that sort of intensity, commitment, etc., feels like in a game. And with DaoC, there was a lot left to the game even after you reached ‘endgame’…….the endgame in DaoC was when it all really got challenging, immersive, truly competitive, etc……even with all the problems in that game, the wvw/rvr of the ‘endgame’ was that good.

I just don’t feel that way anymore, is what I was trying to say. I tend to approach games with a much lighter intensity now.

However, EQ1….I just never got into it. One of those games that just didn’t fit me. It was like my friend that was really into EQ1…..I tried to get him into DaoC, but that game didn’t suit him, just like EQ never pushed my buttons. My friend went on and continued with more pve styled games, while I pursued games with wvw. I even went back and tried EQ2 for a bit……and it was similar. Interesting at first, but it also failed to keep my interest. Don’t get me wrong, I like elements of pve, but if there is no wvw, or at least some elements of pvp, pve gets really old for me really fast.

Embrace the Polls: What Should We 'Try'?

in WvW

Teon.5168

Thank you for the clarification. So if I kill 1 guy and stomp him under Bloodlust, our server gets 3 points… but if a zerg runs over some roamer… the server only gets 2.

Back to what should we try:
- poll to categorise individuals preferred playstyle in WvW (categories: I like to solo roam, I like to havoc, I like to play in guild only runs, I like to run with the commander, I like to play defensively and scout, I enjoy siege warfare)

Only provide the ability to select one, as it’s asking for your preferred playstyle. This should give you an idea of your current playerbase and maybe you can run polls in future based on those given functions. It would be interesting as a player to see, especially if you could provide results total, and results broken down based on server.

While players may enjoy playing multiple styles, myself included … I think it would be good to understand based on a player’s preferred play style.

That would be one heck of an interesting poll, imo.

I really didn’t enjoy eso that much either. My old guild [STUN] went on to it, and we immediately felt like it was slow, not the leveling aspect, just the combat itself felt slow and fps more than anything. Eventually players moved to smite and other games where it felt more active.

Yea, the combat mechanics in ESO are a bit slow and odd, but they are true to the Elder Scrolls series. The earlier single player games in that series had almost identical combat mechanics.

I don’t miss the monthly sub at all, and I don’t really think it has affected the games that much….sure, f2p is quite limited in most games, but once you buy the game everything is cool. I frankly hope to never see monthly subs again, altho I like some of the games’ idea of having a premium sort of membership for those that want to have a monthly fee and some added extras/bonuses for their character. Eso’s premium membership is an interesting example.

And as long as GW2 is still fun to play, I’ll be here.

I miss it, and it has changed them for the worst, you use to get everything in the game including cosmetics lets not pretend games like eq1 didnt have glowing weapons either and awesome looking mounts.

I hated eq1. The death penalties alone were enough to make me quit that game. I had a good friend who loved it, and I constantly shook my head when he couldn’t come out for a couple beers because he had scheduled some 4-6 hour long time period to join some eq1 friends for some silly raid/boss battles in eq1……lol. (Tequatl in GW2 is pretty much the limit for me anymore for a ‘long’ boss battle) I like shinies just like the next guy, but they don’t make or break the game for me…lol. After all, in the end, they’re just pixels.

Some of the many reasons why I love GW2. No death penalties or mind numbing multiple hour long boss battles and such. Just fun at whatever pace I happen to be in the mood for when I play. A wonderful diversion after the 9-5 day.

And, probably the reason behind my first paragraph of this post is that I was already into my 40s when mmorpgs really started to become ‘the thing’. If I had played those games when I had been in my late teens and/or early 20s, my attitude probably would have been a lot different. Space Invaders and Missile Command were the arcade games of choice when I was in my early 20s. Yea, that dates me, but also probably explains my attitude about mmorpgs now. (Altho I did get pretty serious about DaoC for quite some time)

I agree that eq had to much penality but it did make it really rewarding as well, but if anything mmo worlds have gone way way way to easy, no mystery, no danger, and it certainly makes worlds feel less alive you know? There where many other reasons to love eq, your class actually mattered, your role mattered, unique classes, loads of classes, deep group mechanics, the community relied on each others buffs and for a while teleport ability to get around or escorts from bard speed! The list goes on, eq1 had the best group experience ive had in an mmorpg, I would think city of heroes did it better if it wasnt for the shallow content it had. As far as team mechanics, classes, and customization went coh was light years ahead then any current mmorpg right now.

My point was in older mmos you would get everything for paying that 15 a month, I understand that for now thats the way it is and I accept that mmorpgs have changed this, but it doesnt mean a 15 a month mmorpg cannot do well, im pretty sure eve still is going strong.

You make some very interesting points. You sound similar to my friend that loved EQ1. I got into DaoC for similar reasons, but for the fabulous wvw/rvr…..my EQ friend never liked that aspect of DaoC. I, however, loved it.

But that was then. Progression back then was like watching grass grow. I DID get into it, as DaoC back then was almost as slow as EQ1. And yea, when you hit the top level, that was a HUGE deal. Your guildies rejoiced, players in game congratulated you…..it WAS a big deal. But I don’t miss that anymore.

And yea, CoH was a very cool game. It had a ton of potential, but the content was severely lacking. I enjoyed that game, and would have continued with it had it gotten close to its potential.

But not anymore. I enjoy the casual style now, no death penalties, no hours long boss battles, no ToA to be sure you are at your peak for wvw……I find now that I still feel a sense of accomplishment without all the absurd penalties and jaw droppingly slow progress. Life is different now, so my priorities for a game are, as well.

That is the problem I currently have with ESO……the game has real potential, but progression reminds me of the older mmorpgs, even with the premium account and permanent xp boost. I doubt if I will last long enough to really get into the pvp/wvw that that game has.

It is just a case of me getting older and my priorities changing. I really don’t want hardcore anymore. I don’t want to buy a game for that, and I have no desire to do that again. There are plenty of absurd, grindy Asian games out there for those that want grindy, hardcore, etc…..

It is nice to have one mmorpg that caters to the casuals…..finally.

That is why both me and my wife enjoy GW2 so much. Unless something drastically changes, I imagine that we’ll be here for years to come.

I have proroties to as well but you cannot compare older mmos to eso, I think your confusing the journey with endgame which are two seperate things, hardly any mmorpgs have anything about the journey anymore except eso, regardless of how busy we are you will get to max level, your not going to get max level in a month, do you not like regular rpgs? I dont understand whats so bad about slowler leveling as long as you get new stuff while you level its great. Anyone can play games like skyrim casually same goes for eso.

Now eq was a bit much im not saying it wasnt, not sure if you understood me before but im saying this again. But it doesnt mean you need no consequences for death or mistakes in general, rpgs are suppose to be about progression and sense of reward.

First off, just to be clear, when I am speaking of priorities, I am speaking more of game priorities rather than life priorities.

I just have a different view about mmorpgs than you do. I think it is as simple as that. I don’t neeed or even want to get to max level really quick. It is just that the journey, especially after playing so many mmorpgs, is so similar in all of them. Pretty much the same formula(with or without death penalties), that I just don’t get the same sort of excitement out of them that I used to. It is not so much the games as it is me.

Yea, the journey can be interesting, to a point. The rewards? I just don’t see them as rewards anymore. It is just a game to me, and the ‘rewards’ translate into higher points of progression and/or some new shiney for doing some structured or non-structured event in the game and successfully completing it. It isn’t some reward to me….it is just another bauble and/or promotion/upgrade along the way of playing the game.

I suppose maybe I need to view ESO more like I did skyrim and the other chapters in the Elder Scrolls series. Go off and do what I want to, rather than following the story and/or quests and missions just for the purpose of progression. Doing that always made the other games in that series a lot more fun and interesting. I probably need to try that and see how the game feels.

On your point of subs, I imagine that EvE will always have a sub. It is just too complex, and such a different beast from any of the other mmorpgs out there. I have played and quit it several times, and that game still intrigues me. I wish I had more time to enjoy it, as that game seems to really need the player to be able to commit a good amount of time to it to really get the enjoyment factor out of it. (And yea, it has one of the worst death penalties out there in it, BUT, one can buy ‘insurance’ in game to cover that nasty penalty. You forget to keep your insurance or pod protection up to date, well then it is your own fault when the death penalty hammer comes down on you.)

With GW2, I just enjoy it for the fun of it. As long as I get some chuckles and smiles in game, whether it be actually playing or bantering with my guild friends, then I am good. Parts of the game bore the heck out of me, but parts of it I enjoy immensely. I suppose one could call it mindless fun at times, and it is, at times……but it is still silly fun.

As far as death penalties in general? I don’t mind not ever having to deal with them. But that is just me. I understand there are those that view that as crucial to the immersion factor and challenge, and more power to ya………but I view it as nothing more than a severe annoyance and hindrance to my game fun.

I think we just have very differing opinions on what a mmorpg should be, and/or what it needs to be to be fun.

And that’s cool.

Thanks for the interesting discussion on it.

Embrace the Polls: What Should We 'Try'?

Teon.5168

It would be nice if WvW was viewed as: fights; neural; ppt.

Try to balance additions around that because most fight people really really dislike this random extra siege updates.

“Most fight people” are still only a very vocal minority. Snip

Minority or not they are still entitled to have their voice heard in the form of these updates.

What sort of logic are you using to come to that odd conclusion? Certainly, the minority is entitled to have their voices heard in these and other forums, but when there are now polls that are deciding what the majority wants, how do you figure that minorities should be entitled to a voice heard in updates?

I am just curious as to how you arrived at that conclusion?

To be clear, I’m not claiming ‘fight players’ are a minority, I’m saying that regardless of a playstyles all of them should be considered before implementing these polls: having a vote after an idea has already been decided is different to having input into what the idea might be. These recent polls have mostly been neutral or ppt/siege orientated, which does account of a lot of the WvW playerbase playstyles but does not encompass all of them. A wider spectrum prior to picking what areas to ‘update’ is an important factor to keep in mind.

Thanks for the clarification.

All the duelers in EOTM

in WvW

Posted by: Teon.5168

Teon.5168

I encountered some duelers in EB last night. I didn’t realize what they were doing at first, as they were on the NE side of smc up against the clifffs…..being red, I started plugging at them with siege. Even hollered on map chat about it.

I actually think that’s not a good spot for dueling, although it has come to be known as the area duelers often go to. Only reason I say that … is it’s a major route for green to come back, especially when they own SMC. Maybe it’s only an issue in the upper tiers, but I often see that tags run from say durios up along that side to ogrewatch or as a short cut through to anz even.

Personally speaking most of the time when I see a couple enemies up there …. I sort of leave them be unless they fire off a shot when I run by. Only because of the common knowledge about that area being a central point for duelers, and I believe in NA anyway that propagated in large part from the HATS guild long ago.

But you will almost always see some of the zerg peel off and chase them down, by nature. I’ve always wondered why duelers never used the outskirts of one of the three home zones, or say, the area where the lizards are south of the frogs at the hero point. I don’t think anyone really goes in there.

And yes, of course … /obsidian sanctum … but it’s often deserted so they flock to a map with people on it.

Yea, where they were dueling would have been an issue if it has been busier in EB. But it was around 10pm west coast time, and the area was slow, so no harm no foul. And they weren’t complaining when I initially started sieging them….a couple of the eles would just come over to the wall and try to take out the siege. Once I realized what they were doing and quit, they didn’t bother my siege, either.

I didn’t realize it was a common area for duelers, as it seems a little exposed to me. I will know better in the future….but if it is busy out there, I won’t hesitate to call them out in mapchat to the zerg.

How is Ranger / Druid in WvW

in WvW

Posted by: Teon.5168

Teon.5168

I am just getting used to my lb/staff druid in wvw. It is a fun character to run so far, with some effective heals and such, with the added utility of the lb damage when needed. I need to get a lot better at using my F5 skills, though, to be more useful.

I find it to be a lot of fun and would definitely recommend trying it. And as Justine said, get that tough/vital up so that your survivability is decent. Also, what BeepBoopBap said is also true.

I find the character to be the most fun/useful as backline support(with some occasional jumps to the front when stronger heals are needed) in small to medium zergs. Is also pretty good at keep/tower defense, especially with helping to keep other defenders alive.

Try not to smack the hand that’s been trying to help you out.

Fwiw, I have always thought that your posts were pretty fair and open minded. I may have disagreed with you at times, but you have always seemed willing to logically discuss things, and especially where the dbl/abl mixed bl poll was concerned, you always seemed to want a good compromise, even when you didn’t like dbl.

Here’s hoping that when dbl does return, they have continued to make good tweaks to it. I didn’t like it either in its original form, but as I got used to it, and especially after the first round of tweaks to it, it was starting to grow on me.

Thanks Your post always seem to be level headed and positive, you’re one of those I respect around here, however much that’s worth lol.

I do try to keep an open mind to stuff, of course there may be some issues I get pig headed about, but overall I try to see things from both sides, what’s possible and what isn’t. I like seeing interesting ideas that are possible come up, and I like to try and promote them with my thoughts and ideas as well. Like the 2/1 was a very good compromise, it’s too bad we had to spend more than 4 weeks to finally decide on it.

In the end wvw should be about fun, no matter your role (even duelers) on whatever map you want to play.

Well, thanks, but my sarcastic nature tends to get in the way a lot of the time…..have gotten my fair share of suspensions here for going over the ‘polite’ line, I guess….lol.

And yea, completely agree with you on the mixed bls….geez, that poorly worded first poll sure wasted a ton of time, huh?

And yea, in the end, it IS all about fun.

Anyone who has paid for the game should be allowed to vote in the polls, imo. If they’re not a wvw’er, so what? Doesn’t mean they won’t play wvw at some point. They paid for the game just like those that scream about wvw here on the forums, so they should be allowed to vote.

To put it in perspective, lets say everyone game wipe received a poll that asked “How do you feel about all PvE zone including instances now allowing for unrestrained PvP” Most of the PvE players would lose their minds, and yet, most WvW and PvP players would vote yes because, why not. In this case we will also say that WvW and PvP are the majority population so it’s more accurate to what you’re saying.

Hope this helps.

That’s not even remotely similar. For one, the WvW polls are about adding new stuff to the game mode, the “perspective” you give is a theoretical poll about removing an entire game mode. Please explain how you think those are even comparable in nature. The theoretical poll you propose shouldn’t ever even be a poll, it should be an internal company decision if it were to ever happen. I’m also astounded that you think you can speak for “most” WvW and PvP players despite the previous polls clearly showing that opinions like yours are in the minority. The devs have even spoken up about who votes and how much WvW they do, if it was only “regular” WvW players that voted, the results would be unchanged. Your opinion is in the minority man. Learn to live with it.

So as a player who plays 4 hours a night, on my newer account, i get about 5 ranks a day… that would mean what 200 days without a night off? Pretty sure I’d be divorced by then.

So I wouldn’t get to vote until roughly 1 year after starting to play WvW… sounds fair o.O … and skillwise I’m better than a lot of gold players who just got that rank from ktraining BL’s.

I agree there has to be a better method as rank 10 is too low, but gating players behind year long wait is unreasonable.

Perhaps something like weighting the votes based on rank range to mean something more … like a r100 would weigh in at 1, while a r1000 would weigh in at 1.5 or even better … bronze ‘fill in the blank’ counts as 1 point, silver 2, gold 3, and so on. Wouldn’t that be more inclusive while providing the cranky vets their highly sought after earned respect as the know it all (yes i have played since launch, but I play primarily on my new account now and have little plans on changing that. I should still be entitled to a vote)

Why should someone who has been playing longer get more say? That’s not equal at all. Just because they karmatrained for a couple months doesn’t mean they actally know what is good for the game, and in fact they will probably only want changes that facilitate karmatraining and don’t actually help roamers or other people in WvW, or the game mode itself.

I don’t understand why a few people in this community seem to struggle with the concept that every player’s voice should count the same.

Excellent post. But to be fair, I think Hexinx was being sarcastic.

Frankly, since some of you seem to think that playing WvW is akin to having an advanced degree in rocket science…..I would suggest the following for all future polls:

General wvw poll:
Must have at least rank 1000(for every single profession, not for your whole account) in every single character profession. After all, to truly know wvw, you must be high ranked in all the different professions, as they all play wvw slightly differently.

WvW poll concerning siege:
Must have at least 300 hours on every siege weapon imaginable. Only the truly skilled siege master will know what truly impacts siege weaponry

WvW poll concerning EotM:
Must have at least ten billion karma

WvW poll concerning maps:
Must be able to draw, completely from memory, a to scale and accurate map of every WvW map, and all creatures, camps, towers, keeps, etc. This must be submitted to Anet 1 month before said poll, as they will be judged for accuracy. Only the most accurate map drawers will be able to vote. (More than 2 errors and you’re out)

There, that should do it. There will also be continuing classes in wvw to receive advanced accreditation for more advanced polls(balancing, blobs, stacking, etc).

Oh yea, and if you’re on a lower tier and had problems even finding fights over the last year or so, tough luck, as everyone knows that only the top two tiers ever mattered.

Thanks, and have a nice day.

Correct me if I’m wrong but isn’t the poll available to anyone who gets 1 rank in wvw? That isn’t that hard to do. Increase it to 25+ and you would weed out the casuals who keep voting for siege.

Actually, the poll is available to anyone with an account that logs into this forum and sees the poll.

And yea, that will just add more fuel to the fire that screams that non-wvwers are impacting the polls in some way, no matter what Anet or anyone else says to the contrary.

After some of the glaringly obvious results of some of the polls, you would think that, by now, some people in these forums would get the clue that maybe their ‘ideal vision’ of what wvw should or shouldn’t be isn’t anywhere close to what the majority of GW2 players want, or are at least willing to try, for wvw.
