If I were to give you honest opinion, I’d say go SB. It’s just easier.
BUT! LB works too. I run LB/GS build everywhere, but spvp. I took it with me through all pathes of all dungs (dungeon master), high enough fotm lvl (33 atm) and hundreds, if not thousands hours in WvW (I play mostly WvW and have over 1,5k h played on ranger).
It’s true LB works only if you can stay on max range, but when you do it, it’s actually very strong.
Rapid Fire is rather weak skill, but when testing it on golems, this skill somehow “saves” LB compared to SB, when it comes to close distance for some time and you can’t swap weapon for any reason. Also, if you start using it before enemy stealths, it keep hitting him while he is invisible.
Hunters Shot is great. Ofc, there are classes who can give team more vuln. Still, with 30 points in MM (for piercing + range) and -20% CDs on skills, I can keep 10 vuln on target all the time, jumping to 20 stacks for ~2 sec everytime I reapply it.
Point Blank Shot isn’t really useful in PvE. Sometimes you can use it to push mob into AoE or take pressure from ally. In WvW it’s great to throwing ppl from cliffs, or even from walls when you are under them!
Barrage is great! It’s pretty strong AoE. The main weakness is the fact you can’t move while casting, but on the other hand it’s still hitting after full channel. Cripple helps too.

Play what you like and even biggest crap will work and give fun.

I don’t use pet for dps. Wolves KD, cripple and F2 are always good.
Outside of that, I play ranger because I want archer. I don’t care what others think, it’s working for me.
There is no place for ranger in harder dungeons. Red circles will eat your pet leaving you lacking with DPS. They’re great in open world solo PVE. Have I known how bad rangers are at dungeons (compose the majority of my end-game goals) I would not have rolled a ranger.
Somehow I made dungeon master ONLY playing ranger and I’m doing lvl 30+ fotm without any problems nor complains from my team. To make it even “worse” I’m running LB/GS build

Why low? Maybe he just isn’t zerk? It’s still high in some aspects of game.
Tbh I wouldn’t hope for much. Merging piercing arrows with eagle eye or with 20% cd reduction on bows would be great, but I rather expect things like replacing 1 useless trait with another that isn’t any more useful.
I think it’s hard to judge new system after 1 reset, that got addionally screwed by 2 short resets during it. I say give it time.
Note that it’s said by guy from GH (T7) who got matched with T3 and T4 servers
On cheating topic: why don’t you just make a movie showing how you target inside? It should make everything clear and stop this never-ending topic. I also don’t think you will reveal some great, secret strategies by showing it
If you refuse to show it, ppl are free to accuse you of cheating, because you do something others can’t do.
Condi removal while pressing W. They apply immobilize every “tick”, so you can move out from it between them.
If you played WvW without chests and were happy, you will be happy with anything they add. Personally I wouldn’t mind them taking away all the drops but keeping gold price on WvW items. If you want to earn pixels you can do it in PvE and leave WvW purely for combat and as gold sink.
And tbh why would WvW players get as much as PvE players? It’d just make queues, because most ppl farming PvE would rather follow some guy with blue icon and have some fun from frming this way. But then ppl interested in WvW, not money, wouldn’t be able to join…
Not to mention you can do dragons too. Look at timer, leave WvW for few minutes and you have your precious reward.

Great idea. I was wondering since beginning why they don’t use such easy and effective system. But tbh I dont have hope for it anymore. I guess they will try to improve current system (hopefully they will manage to) for next weeks/months.
Any random matchmaking is too dangerous for balance. Tiers were so tight, going 1 up or 1 down was already big difference. Anything more than it is just slaughter.
About your examples how it looks now: In EU we have middle-T7 server fighting T4 and T3 ones

Ranger is my main, I play mostly WvW, 1,5k h+ played on ranger, over 25k kills.
You know what? I run with LB and I won even 1v3.
Don’t feel sorry, it will just be boring, because I am not inclined to even bother spending time in WvW when we are so thoroughly mismatched. Both Piken Square and Riverside can field mor people on 1 map than we can on all 4 combined. I will be PvEing this week. Maybe A-Net can get it right next week.
This says it all. I liked the small fights we had the last 2 weeks. Now its just big blobs against a few of us. If you already check the maps, u can already see the outcome of this match-up.

Huh? Actually, in game Gunnars is against Piken and Riverside, and it’s slaughter.

Hello. I tried to report violation, but when I try to attach a movie (short, .avi) it says it’s uploading, but after few minutes a window pops, saying:
“There was an error with the request and the action could not be completed.”
What’s wrong?
And btw. the thing I want to report is a mesmer who let us kill him at gate (I didn’t manage to stop ppl from killing him) and then is waiting there for rez through gate to portal firends. Luckily, he was less patient than me, and left after I camped his body for some time. I got it all recorded. Can I still report it, even if he didn’t manage to use bug in the end?

And why would any thief with more than half of brain trigger trap? It’s soo obvious where they will be, and if they see ppl placing them then it’s GG. Not to mention such kittenty balance that requires you to use siege weapons to conter just 1 (ONE!) escape mechanism of signle class? Why don’t ppl have to build balistas to counter ranger or warrior?

I actually gave up WvW outside from guild events because of it. I’d add “until they fix it”, but I don’t belive ANet considers it a problem.
The funnies thing is, they said, they don’t want perma stealth, coz it’s “not fun”, yet they don’t nerf it when players learned to make it perma.
Something is wrong with those numbers. I’m far from tanky (actually ptv/knigh mix) and my LB 1. on max range rarely hits less than 900.
Also, rapid fire is great. I killed sooo many thieves with it when they thought they are safe
Ofc, dmg isn’t too good and imo LB 1. and 2. REALLY need a buff/fix, but it’s far from useless.
But yeah, I have 5% dmg for LB from eagle eye. Not big, but every bit counts.
Or maybe someone just stole your stability? There is a lot of ways to dispel buff. Before calling anyone hacker, better makes sure you know what are you talking about.
After update that boosted stats of all pets, some HoM pets (Black Widow for example) didn’t get boost. Is it just tooltip bug, or do they really have old stats? Has anyone tested it?

Huh? What’s wrong? It’s FASTER than getting them in PvE. You need to do dailies (less than in pve), and they can be done in WvW easily.

If you (multiple you) never saw T8, kitten with “10v10”. I’m in T8 and it’s normal to see 40+ zergs. At resets easily 60+
Ok, I’ll answer after all:
How am I supposed to “hit where thay are, not where they were”? They can go ANY way, it’s not corner, and even if it was, they could have ran past me before I notcied.
They are not dangerous to us? SM was wooden and it got opened by treb. We took them down and repaired wall. Before it they got in. If they rezzed any dead mesmer (and I don’t have map with them all marked, nor the ppl to camp them all), they could cap SM in 2 min.
How is siege on outer walls useless? What about trebs to hit red keep or counter anza trebs? Normally countering them takes more than 2 asura thieves…
And as I said, I stared recording later. When there was only 2 of us, they fought… ofc like thieves – killed guy who was with me in fast combo. I’m rather tanky, so I survived. But they ARE danger to whole EB population, because they can take spawning ppl going through SM to commander 1 by 1. They can do it in field too, but there ppl can expect them – who’d expect to be ganked in own keep?
I know about abilities tracking stealthed thieves (the best one imho is LB 2, coz it has long cast).
Maybe I’m not some pro, but I fought many thieves as ranger (find “Why not Ranger?” on YT). As I said, I understand it’s class with good mobility and imba burst. The only thing imo is totally OP is stealth. The only thing that stopes it from being nerfed, is fact it doesn’t kill ppl. It’s annoying and OP in long-term tactics – things ANet can’t understand for some reason.
And yes, I know thief traits and skills. I play MMOs for 10 years, and I learned to test other classes before saying anything about them.

Always during guild events I make ninja party to flip cams and ram towers when main zerg is fighting on the other side of map. Got rank 54 this way.
Why isn’t camp flipping attractive? Speak for yourself, I, and ppl who volunteer for my party, like it.

I don’t mind them being able to burst someone in 2 secs. I don’t mind them having best mobility in game. I DO mind them being able to stop small/medium sized zerg and waste ppls time.
This movie is just one of examples from last few weeks. In this case there are 2 of them, but not long ago 1 thief stopped 10-15 of us in tower for 5 min. We simply didn’t have anough AoE to cover whole floor, and even if we had, I don’t think it’d be enough.
No, I can’t just ignore them, and let them rez some dead mesmer.
No, stealth traps doesn’t work against thief with at least half of brain.
No, “just AoE them noob!” doesn’t work.
Yes, they are very good players. Still, it’s class that allows such things, and no other class gives so big advantage in any other “discipline”. Some are better at some things, but it’s just too much.

Maybe let’s compare our traps to warriors ones? Oh wait, he doesn’t have any! Hey, there is also 50% faster endu regen for free. Health regen? From some reason I see rangers with 600hp/s, not warriors.
Jest because some skills work in similiar ways, doesn’t mean they can be compared directly. Imagine if we got our spirits replaced with warriors signets, GS with his GS and were able to equip healing signet. Kinda OP, eh?

I have to admit I’m very (positively) surprised howmuch WvW changes are rolling and how they are mostly the good ones!
I prefer it to lvlup slowly. I play only one character and I like the ability to upgrade my character (even if it’s marginal difference) wihtout end. The thing we need to remember is, it’s not like we have to max all perks – they are more about investing in things you like, specializing. The ability to get everything maxed is just a carrot for farmers/completionists/achievkittens like me
I’d lie if I said my I can run all dungs with my pet alive, but tbh I don’t have problems with it (0 points in BM!). There are some fights where it’s dead most of the time, but outside of them I can F1-F3 it without problem.

Wait, what? He asked about ZvZ/GvG and you answer him about farming (taggin as much as possible)? In big group fights you mostly need good survi and it IS nice to have team support. DMG or tagging doesn’t matter, coz when 20+ ppl in tanky spec, with stacked might, hit enemy with 1 swing he will go down anyway.
I know how pug zergs look, but it’s not the only kind of mass pvp.

Actually, I’m reading them, and it’s easier to have all discussion in one place.
Bunker builds weren’t made for zerging in retrospect, even though you can and have great survivability, they were made for small skirmishes and roaming.
Well, in GvG and organized zergs bunkers are the way to go. Meta is to have min. 1,5k toughness and vitality (can be less of some, depending on class abilities to go immun, regen etc).
About trait for SB: I know some play without it, but I simply can’t. It’s too annoying when pet, mob, or even stupid critter blocks your attacks :P And in this build it’d be my main source of AoE (other than drake).
So, has anyone used bunker build for things other than roaming?
Are you sure it boosts natural? And I have toughness from gear, 150 less isn’t that much O.o
But yeah, as I said, I’m interested only in using bows :|
Hey guys. Seeing there will be no balance changes anytime soon I decided to change my build and finally try something different. Seeing how popular is bunker build I decided to try it first.
One thing I learnedwhile playign ranger is, things can be different than they seem at beginning. For this reason I’m making this topic and hoping for advices from experienced players, instead of only trying it myself (tho I test on my own too).
I have some problems with it…
1. The 2 signets are a must. Last utility slot is hard choice between Sic and stun breaker.
2. I made ranger for bow (don’t even mention rerolling!) and I want to make this build work with one. The problem is, I can’t play any bow without piercing arrows – will this build work with 20 points in MM?
3. I don’t see reason to stick to LB without 30 in MM (piercing + range), so I’ll go with SB. Is SB alone better for cleric or apothecary? With flanking req. and no crits it’s hard to keep good bleed stacks
4. 2nd wepon. I love GS, but I’m not sure if I shouldn’t get something other for this build. SW+WH?
5. 10 points trait in MM… does malicious training even work? I can’t see difference on golems.
I’d appreciate any feedback on this. How does it work in sPvP, WvW*, open PvE and dungs? Is the bow option viable, or it’s just wasting potential (if so, how big waste)?
*I’m mostly WvW player and I sometimes run in organized groups. Has someone tested it in multiple environments? I mean how is it in pug zerg, organized zerg, GvG, roaming in group/solo.
I know it’s many questions, but I’ll be very thankfull if you could answer at least some of them
