Energy regen is between +5 and -5. IO uses 10, so all of it. To activate it and F2 you’d need to run with -7 regen which is impossible.
I’m not understanding how running down energy affects the cooldown of One with Nature, can you explain further?
To use quickness on Shiro you can’t have any other upkeep. All of them would disappear when swapping from Glint to Shiro, but F2 would still remain active. To disable it, you’d need to use it and then it’d go on cooldown. The only way to turn it off without having cooldown is to run out of energy.
It happens to me when I change map. I fixed it by swapping it to other dodge trait and then back.
Yeah, I’d love to see some numbers comparing staff DPS in optimal build to D/D and S/P ones in current (old?) meta build. I’m testing staff in open world, and I won’t lie, I wouldn’t mind if it became new meta
How does staff dps compare to other weapons?
I think pets should have condition damage stat just as they have other stats. Some pets would simply have less power and more cnd dmg.
If you’re running in groups in WvW then Hammer/S&WH and run a frontliner shout build with Trooper runes. Sick & tired of seeing GS nubs running in zergs.
Those “nubs” might as well be GvG players. GS warriors for melee bombs are pretty popular now.
Mixed Berry Pie atm. It’s much cheaper than 66% version and has same dmg/heal with same ICD.
I didn’t run it myself, but I think in theory you can easily get 100% swiftness uptime: 30% from runes (of pack for example) + 20% from staff trait + bigger symbols (if placed right you can catch 2 ticks while running) = should be exactly 100% uptime using only staff 3.
Speaking about 25% signets: most classes doesn’t use them anyway because they waste utility slot. Even on my thief and ranger I use traveler runes lol.
Run speed is important in small groups or solo. If you don’t have swiftness in WvW zerg then slap your warriors and other guardians for not spamming it.

This trait will hurt me like hell, but tbh I’m kinda happy. Outside of duels against very skilled players, stealth is just too easy. Even if engis (good ones ofc) will hardcounter me now, I think it’s fair considering how easy it’s to reset against nearly every other class.
What about signet hps? Not changed?
I mentioned Healing Surge in the other thread. It’s been renamed to “To the Limit” and is categorized as a shout. It also gives a flat 25 endurance to yourself and nearby allies (600 radius).
Healing Signet now gives 6 seconds of Resistance on activation.
Can you tell us how much healing it provides and what the cast time of it is? Also the cooldown.
“To the Limit” is a 30s CD and the healing is now set at 6,450 base. It does not scale with adrenaline. However, it now is affected by shout CD redux so it can go down to 24s CD. This also means you get the 1k~ heal from Vigorous Shouts.
Edit: “To the Limit” now heals for 6500~ and does not scale with adrenaline.
From other topic.
I don’t think there needs to be a counter to reflection more than “use melee”. If you think there should be, please elaborate why. Also, let’s not forget that while a full-range spec might have to stop shooting during the reflection, a Ranger still has their pet who could very well be using melee attacks (most do).
I have to admit that’s good points about pets.
Elaborating why I support idea of counter-reflect: if HoT traits stay as they are, mesmers with single trait (“Evasive Mirror” from Dueling tree) will be able to use reflection more often than I can swap to my melee weapon and with such high uptime (1,5s on every evasion, 1,5s ICD) that it will simply make it impossible to fight them with any projectile weapon.
Another example can be warrior with mace and shield trait. Counterblow (mace 2. skill) has 10 sec CD and lasts 2,5s. With this trait, or to be exact with projectile reflection part of it, block doesn’t break after single ranged hit, meaning warrior will be able to reflect nearly every single ranged burst ranger can make (ok, I guess I’ll be forced to immob + barrage…).
I don’t think medium/long CD counter-reflect with short duration (or attacks limit) would really make it any easier for pewpew rangers, because using it would require timing. Goal of this skill/trait/boon wouldn’t be to just kitten more damage into enemy, but to allow us to synergize skills to deal burst right when we need to.
I know pewpew rangers are annoying and anything that makes them even a little harder to counter seems bad, but I still think we need something like this for higher level play. kitten ing is kitten ing and game shouldn’t be balanced around it.
(edited by Terkov.4138)
I didn’t mention OH sword block because it has longer CD and block doesn’t break from single ranged hit anyway. Mace will benefit a lot from “free” reflect on block trait.
Normally I wouldn’t think there should be counter, but with tons of reflects added in HoT, that don’t really need special sacrifices to get them, I think any smaller fight will be major pain for projectile weapons. It’s one thing to swap to melee when someone pops 30s CD reflect, but what if someone has 25% or maybe even 50% (I’d need to calculate mesmer on-dodge one) reflection uptime? My weapon swap won’t go off CD before he pops it again O.o
Also, I don’t think we need some big counter. Rather something situational – 30+ sec CD with few sec “unreflectable” buff. It could be similiar to warriors signet that gives unblockable attacks on active.
In HoT reflection will become much more problematic. For example mesmers trait to get mirror on dodge. Or warrior with reflect on block merged with shield master (reflect on block makes his mace block don’t stop after single projectile).
+1 to some counter.
Ranger is as easy as BS→100b warr in first weeks of game. It’s “I win button” until you meet someone who knows how what his skills do.
Hey guys. I’m getting bored with this weapon set and looking for good alternative. Has anyone tried replacing GS with sword and traited wh? I’d like to start with small changes to don’t swap whole gear… :p
You need trait to make it ground targetted, otherwise you will just drop it where you stand.
@edit
wow, not one, but two replies appeared while I was writing
Traits:
http://dulfy.net/2015/05/02/gw2-specialization-calculator-that_shaman/#profession=warrior&traits=“Arms”,2,6,9-“Defense”,1,6,8-“Discipline”,2,6,8
@edit
link broken, so listing:
Arms: Signet Mastery, Blademaster, Dual Wielding
Defense: Shield Master, Cleansing Ire, Defy Pain
Discipline: Warrior’s Sprint, Brawler’s Recovery, Burst Mastery
Weapons and utilties:
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fJAQRAnc8OjMdWGihHciAA
In short: it’s axe+sword/sword+shield. Planned use: roaming.
Why? Because new dual wielding trait should make axe autoattack feel like meatgrinder! Add to that +10% dmg to bleeding enemies (so always), +50% crit chance against stunned (for Final Thrust or Evi), blocks on both weapon sets with reflects and other cool stuff.
Damage: good pressure with axe 1. and good burst with axe F1 and sword 3.
Mobility: simply awesome with sword with reduced CD
Self heal: average. Signet + Adrenal Health
Condi removal: very good. On weapon swap, Cleansing Ire (not reliable) and signet for condi bombs.
Mitigation: solid. 2 blocks, both with reduced cooldowns and reflects. +50% endurance regen from signet. Defy Pain.
Sigils, runes and stats distribution is to be decided. It’s supposed to be power build, but maybe it’d work with celestial too.
Balanced Stance could be replaced with dolly signet (only 8 sec longer CD and offers passive + more stability stacks). Opinions?
Last utility is free. I guess Endure Pain is always safe bet. Bola could work too to land more Evis. Opinions?
I have to say it looks very good on paper. Too good. That’s why I’m posting here – maybe I’m just forgetting something?
(edited by Terkov.4138)
Personally I’d go with 6/0/6/0/6 for survi traits for condi removal. And LB/GS.
Beastmaster’s Bond and quickness from BM should give awesome RF burst with pet swap. And I still have imba condi removal and healing (TU reduced cooldown).
But do other traits also save you from stun? You know, like necro fear enemy, but isn’t he stunned during it anyway?
Thief’s “Hard to Catch”:
30 ICD. Auto breakstun, refill endurance, ADAPT TRAIT. NO DRAWBACK (like pet getting CCed instead?)
Not to mention thief has more stun breaker than ranger. Ranger does have stability but none of them are instant and need to precast it. It greatly hinders it’s effectiveness because you have to predict a CC and waste duration by pre-casting it.Balance?
Try using it while contesting point or trying to stay stacked with group.
And I’d suggest to never directly compare similar abilities between classes. I already had looong discussion about it 2 years ago in this forum. Balance simply doesn’t work like that.
And still no answer to my question: do any of other classes traits actually save player from CC or only give some bonuses to survive it easier?
But do other traits also save you from stun? You know, like necro fear enemy, but isn’t he stunned during it anyway?
@topic
No, I can’t agree.
As I said in other topic, Protective Ward’s tooltip gives different info to what devs said during AMA. They said protection is for pet, not ranger. I don’t know if they were mistaken or tooltip is wrong, but I’d assume the latter.
Aside from that details, build looks interesting.
It’s fine how it is now. SotF in NM, EB is WS.
Not really. How trait that is all about survival skills fits Nature Magic better than Wilderness Survival?
I just can’t believe my eyes O.o Just imagine such LB build: 6/0/6/0/6 – all LB traits, awesome condi removal and self heal with survi skills (+TU) and perma swiftness + regen with guard. Could include GS trait and 2 traits on pet swap: Call of the Wild and quickness ( + 3x might), giving us awesome burst with RF.
I mean… am I dreaming? It’ just too good! xD
Tooltip says it’s protection for ranger, but they said “protection for pet” during AMA. I guess tooltip just wasn’t updated.
If you think ranger is overpowered because of the way Anet wrote a code that applies to every class you should probably stop playing PvP.
This. The “bug” you mention is simply more visible the longer range weapon has. Just go see ele fire staff 1 skill – it easily hits 1500 range AND it doesn’t get obstructed thanks to aoe! That’s serious bug!
If you just walk backwards and swing your weapon in most cases thief won’t have enough stealth time to backstab you, so he will wwaste it on facestab or just run out of stealth. SA thieves are sure annoying as hell, but backstab itself should be totally fine for anyone who played thief ever once.
Would be awesome, but I doubt it will be changed. There are many useless minors in game :/
Your examples are far overexaggerated. It took me less than a week to start clicking F3 all the time without thinking about it xD Annoying? Yes. Gamebreaking? lol no.
Awesome :o
I’m trying to play ele occasionally (I have something for casters from other games) but staff weakness in small scale has been putting me off. Now I might give it yet another try
have you considered Evasive Arcana? Wouldn’t bonus blast and heal/condi removal boost survi a lot?
I don’t know about any compilation of ranger patch notes I’m afraid.
Nothing grand happened in general
Depending on how long he’s been gone, a lot happened. LB makes people come to this forum to cry (1. dmg buff, RF castspeed buff, RtW), we have reliable condi removal (SotF), trapper runes, things you mentioned and some more.
maybe because you’re not a TES player?
i love ESO, the lore is interesting, the quests are dynamic, the world is alive all the time.
it even has a battle system that can be used by your self, unlike GW2 it’s not all autopilot.it’s still to each their own but to say it’s a bad game shows ignorance, clearly there are plenty of ppl saying the exact same thing about GW2 and do like ESO.
i like both, GW2 for the fantasy settings and fast battles and ESO for the lush world and self control of battles.if anything, GW2 is less what GW1 is while ESO is more so, based on player skill not time and gear.
Actually “alive world” is thing that wins in GW2. Dynamic events are huge thing, but sadly I noticed it only after trying ESO. I mean, some anchor? Really? Then I log to GW2 and see events everywhere – it really feels alive!
And gear not skill? Idk how you played ESO, but gearing there is much more grindy and “unfair” compared to GW2, where you easily get full set as soon as you ding 80. Unless you want to argue about this few stat points difference from ascended armor :P
Personally I like few things in ESO. One of them would be interesting quests (compared to other MMO quests). Character creator is cool too. AvA has (had?) potential, but right now WvW is better imho. Generally ESO is ok for casual coop-like RPG, but for MMO GW2 wins hands down. Again, imho.
There are also small details: no big logos when I start GW2 (god I hate those things), better animations in GW2 (like when you stand on stairs one leg can be on higher one and one on lower, while in ESO one will just fly), collectibles tab/deposit all collectibles, jumping puzzles/vistas, trading post (call it casual, but I hate ESO trading).
(edited by Terkov.4138)
I think they said it’d be waste of space to store all those names or something. I’m not sure. Anyway don’t hope for change.
@DarkSyze.8627
Your opinion is your opinion. Keep it in your topic you made so we don’t have to read it. This one asks RANGERS for nerfs WE could tolerate.
@topic
Nerf per damage even more. At least I’d stop trying to use them for offence and would fully swap to CC pets.
Some ideas were used. For example RtW or SotF traits. It’s pretty funny to see how everyone misses it and complain about other things.
Looks nice. I guess that means they finally leanred that melee stacking gives advantage so big that there is no more reason to kitten ranged DPS because of “risk vs reward”. I hope one day we will be able to play dungeons fully ranged xD
Did you calculate with the aftercast of the skills? LB have a very long one
Not “very”. It’s been reduced long time ago. I don’t remember how long it is now :/
I don’t trust passive condi removal.
In zergs rangers can be pain as gankers. Get a group of 5 of them, target enemy commander and just pewpew. You can be sure he is raging on their TS.
That is, with LB.
If you run LB I wouldn’t advise 2nd ranged weapon. Sword or GS give you ability to survive in AoE or against melee thanks to blocks and evades. Not to mention mobility they provide.
(edited by Terkov.4138)
Works perfectly for me. It’s just ranged version of CnD. For pet issue, I just always order it to attack at the same time I use 3.
I don’t use piercing arrows for long time now, so idk if they break it. Barrage sure does, so just watch your timing.
It can be in three circumstances. The first is that if you’re invisible, it’s much easier to stomp people. The second is for the Remorsless Marksmanship Grandmaster Trait, which makes it so that every time you get a kill or go into stealth you get Opening Strike back. Third, if you’ve over-aggroed in pve it’s a good way to get them off you.
It’s also great when you want to use TU or MT during fight with enemy who know how to interrupt and dodge.
Another use for it is in zerg fights when you need to get clear of gankers on you – especially effective against ranged ones, as they have it much harder to find you again after you reappear.
Drake useless?
Yes, each bolt hit over 1k on crit and hit ranger 2 times thanks to his pet being bounce target. My pet always has fury during burst, because I use survival skill (MT or roots) before it.
Compare drakes dmg to my RF dmg.
(don’t comment how this enemy sucked, it’s not the point of this post)
I always have wolf on swap for F2 fear whenever I need it. Always.
For first pet I currently run river drake. It’s tanky, has AoE and, most importantly, super awesome F2 burst (use it with muddy or entagle).
hey OP, dont bother leveling.
Ranger is not an archer, it will never be. While great at ranged combat, they are not the only ones, and you only are great at ranged combat when running full zerker. Other builds will have less DPS then mesmer (third highest ranged DPS, ranger is second, ele is first).
Ranger is the most archerish class there is in GW2. If you want to play archer, ranger is the best bet. There is chance it will get better when we get more specializations.
Full zerk? I’ve never used it and I play LB builds since headstart (ranger was my first character and is still main) with around 2,5k hours only on him. Idk how’d you want to fight more than 1 enemy when roaming in full zerk, unless you swap to S/X as soon as you see them, but then again, it’s hard to call it ranged combat then :p
PS: I hope Greatsword #4 Blades trail should get a speed update just as thieves got speed update to dancing dagger. This skill travels way too slow to tag a fleeing enemy.
And it should be able to fly upwards to hit enemies on walls etc :/
PBS needs to be changed to knockdown, not knockback.
No, it doesn’t.
On paper it’s 1500. It flies further as every projectile based weapon, but idk if it goes to 1900.
Rangers mobility is ok. Listing it as con is imho misunderstanding, unless you compare everything to thief/warrior.
Are people really that ignorant? You only notice things that hurt you, but if you tried to look for it, you’d notice how often this skill is used to actually help with keeping mobs in AoE, pushing PBAoE mobs from downed players or to interrupt movement skill (during them hit enemies don’t get pushed, just stop in place).
Really, just because you notice some idiots who faceroll keyboard it doesn’t mean they are majority.
+1 for wind rider. Actually, I’d be happy with any new ranged pet viable in PvP that has less than 8 legs.
