tell me how movement abilities are not one of them, when warrior’s mobility is literally the worst mobility in the game that is only useful to run marathon in open world or WvW.
They don’t have the worst mobility in the game. The movement from a gs-warrior is really great. Maybe you need to deactivate the auto-targeting from abilities in the options if you have problems to use them besides the open world.
E.g. There are very few professions that can follow the warrior when he decides to leave the teamfight on mid to decap your home node. (Which actually was a viable tactic some time ago prior HoT.)
and yea, please make a at least slightly competitive warrior build that also have swiftness uptime comparable to others so you don’t get kitted by walking, i beg you,
The core problem fro warior is, that he is not competitive, because his damage-survivalability-ratio can’t compete with the other professions.
Edit: To add to that: A few month ago, when warriors played shout warrior, they achieved 100% swiftness uptime with warhorn alone. Is that ‘slightly competitive’ for you enough?
How many ‘slightly competitive’ builds from other professions have permanent swiftness? The only reason those builds are ‘slightly competitve’ is because their professions have a good damage/survivalability-ratio anyway. But they are still not optimal. E.g. A gs-warrior with the 25% movement speed trait will still outrun an engi with 100% swiftness.
personally, im really dumb and stupid to think of any build at all, since i only have 3.9k games played with warrior
Maybe don’t just spam those games in hot-join. Try to improve yourself.
and also play other classes frequently, i don’t understand what’s the problem with warrior at all, i’m just dumb, please enlighten me..warrior’s problem is definitely not that if you slot of one thing you get no others, please teach me, master..i’m really dumb with incredibly low IQ..thanks..
The problem with warrior is, that every role he can do, some other profession can do better. With a warrior, you will always be in a disadvantage in any 2v2 or 3v3 when facing competent opponents.
You can play condi warrior, but a reaper will just do better.
You can kill players as a gunflame warrior, but a backstab thief will do that better.
That is the warriors problem. Not his movement ability.
I hope I could enlighten you.

what is this? why warrior can’t achieve some thing close to this?
like what? what’s that..i don’t even…what? you no give teleportation, fine! but not even swiftness? what?
1.) Ok, here are some basics: It does not matter if he has 1 minute swiftness or if he can reapply 10 seconds of swiftness every 10 seconds. To make thing more compareable please talk about “swiftness uptime”. And yes, there are multiple professions, that can achieve 100% swiftness uptime including warrior.
2.) Does it matter if you have 100% swiftness uptime? No, because there are other movement-enhancing effect like your gs #3 & sword #2. Warrior is in a really good spot regarding his movement.
3.) Does it matter if someone has 100% swiftness uptime aspecially in pvp? No, because most professions are sacrificing something else to achieve this.
4.) Warrior has many problems, but his movement abilities are not one of them. Please just visit the warrior forum for more infos.

Condi Mesmer is unplayable if there is an necromancer/reaper on the opponent team with condi transfer.
He is then basically playing for the opponent team and helping them kill his teammates with his own conditions.
Primoridal (S1) & Exalted (S2) & Illustrious (S3) Legend
The problem is, I’m not sure yet what is causing it.
- Both times the “victim” from Precision Strike was a mesmer.
- One time it brought the mesmer into the downstate, next time it hit the mesmer in the downstate
- First time it was on the open field in foefire, second time right next to a wall.
Primoridal (S1) & Exalted (S2) & Illustrious (S3) Legend
I just managed to repeat it again. 1 precision strike hit 6 times for a total of ~8k damage.
The opponent was a mesmer, in the down state, on clock tower right next to the wall (the little edge next to the capture point, not the one wall of the tower itself).
Primoridal (S1) & Exalted (S2) & Illustrious (S3) Legend
with the lack of motivation for gw2 i went out into the big world, playing other pvp games and while i’m enjoying this and that, i saw something that would benefit guild wars a lot.
I saw something too. I saw devs actually playing the game and being really good at it.
I don’t think I’ll every forget the horrors of the wintersday JP stream where they only showed how to not jump -.-
Primoridal (S1) & Exalted (S2) & Illustrious (S3) Legend
Clone/phantasms are still targets, so if the wiki is right, and you where in line with those clones then all of the projectiles fired at each of the clones could have easily hit you in addition to the projectile that the ability sends at you.
That was my first though too. I haven’t play much since the last balance patch, where they changed how precision strike works. That’s why I though it was an intended behaviour to fire multiple projectiles at the opponents around and I that I was just in the way. (And therefore a balance problem)
The problem is, I am not able to reproduce it with the golems in the mists. The ability is only firing three projectiles there regardless how many opponents are around you. Therefore max hitting you 3 times, not 6. So it seems to really be more a bug problem, but I’ll keep my eyes on it and try to reproduce it.
Primoridal (S1) & Exalted (S2) & Illustrious (S3) Legend
This looks more like you told two Revenants to use Precision Strike at the same time more than anything.
You have the name of the revenant in the screen. I understand that you prefer that your beloved game has no bugs and that there is another explanation, but unfortunately that screen was from the first game I played today.
The first Precision Strike did NOT hit you for 8k, it was ~6k and a lot of the damage wasn’t even directly from Precision Strike, but from Sigils (over 2000!).
The second one barely hit over 4k.
Again: It was 1 precision strike.
Now, IF somehow, PS hit you 6 times, that’s a bug and doesn’t really have to do with direct balance issues. You would report it as a bug to Anet and hope it gets fixed soon.
Balance&Bug goes hand in hand since every bug effects the balance. See the example from Ancestral Grace from above.
Primoridal (S1) & Exalted (S2) & Illustrious (S3) Legend
Precision Strike has a 4s cooldown and a 1/2s cast time…
I know, still 1 use of it hit me for ~8k.
That’s not a second precision strike, that’s from the same.
That is not possible Precision Strike only sends 3 projectiles.
And it still did. You have the timestamp in the screenshot.
Oh no! A skill that does not do what it is supposed to do? Never heard about that!
Edit: ‘Ancestral Grace’ was also not supposed to blast multiple times when you jumped at the start of the cast. It still did.

I’m going to guess you were stacked with your teammates?
Nope, clones/phantasms.
I’ll entertain you, I guess.
So, over a period of ~6-7 seconds, you got hit for ~10k damage?[..] Hell, that second Precision Strike only hit for ~4k
#facepalm I quess because you did not look at the timestamp? That’s not a second precision strike, that’s from the same.

Mesmer is now where thief was basically the entire time since the specialization update last summer until the update last week, so sorry if I don’t give a kitten about you being “broken” for a whopping 6 days, I’m sure you’ll find a way to get over it as all the thief mains did
Not exactly.
First off, even I didn’t main thief, I cared about his position and I posted feedback there too, where they could buff him.
Second, thief was not as bad as warrior. Now, mesmer is at the same level as warrior.
Primoridal (S1) & Exalted (S2) & Illustrious (S3) Legend
So it’s broken because it isn’t meta?
There is a HUGE difference between meta and broken. e.g. last season the “meta” consisted of 2 bunker mesmer, two revenants and either a druid or a scrapper.
Still, the tempest and the druid were not broken. The warrior and thief were.
Have you played mesmer lately? Ask any pvp player you trust. Go to the mesmer forum and read a random thread of your choice.
As a mesmer, you just can’t compete anymore. That’s what I consider broken.

The thing is, gw2 had the potential to be by now as big as e.g. smite. But like alway, gw2 managed to screws up again.
Probably a lot of those players who came back with HoT have left by now because the league system and balance were not even close to where it should have been.
The sad part is, that we started to point out all the problems that the league system should avoid; once it got closer to HoT and we knew how the league system will look, we pointed out the problems again and again, but guess what… they did not change anything and the trash league got introduced.
If you want gw2 to be successful, you can’t make mistakes that every other game out there managed to avoid. But no, we will reinvent the wheel again, too bad, that it has edges and is not round, but I’m sure it is by far better!
The same situation with f2p and elite specs. Why are the elite specs mandatory and locked behind a pay wall? This will prevent gw2 from growing!
I really love the combat in gw2, but I am afraid, that it once again threw away its only chance to become successful.

gw2 wikiAt the start of matchmaking, the system attempts to find a match customized for the first Filter/Iteration/@rosters rosters (party) in the queue.
1. Step: The system picks the first player. He (or she) is the starting point of the match making process.
gw2 wikiThe first phase, called filtering, gathers players based on their current MMR and Ladder Points.
2. Step: The system creates a list including all the players who have about the same MMR as the first player. Now you already have a list of players who should have match with a good quality due to having about the same MMR, the scoring phase is just to improve upon that. Since the search radius for the list is growing over time, this is the reason we can end up in matches with a win prediction of <20%.
When comparing two rosters, we first assume they are a perfect match with a score of ‘0’. [..] This way we can decide if one roster is a better choice than another when filling up teams because one roster will have a higher score.
This is the third step, the “scoring phase”. The goal here is to find the best two team to play against each other. The means, if I end up with e.g. three thiefs in my team, that my team has an advantage in the score system somewhere else, e.g. a (minor) rating advantage.
Queuing up as a premade influences two steps. First it adjusts it’s average MMR in the list to make sure, that even if a full premade is playing against pure soloq player, that the match should still be as fair as possible. And then in the “scoring phase”, it is influencing the scoring system, trying to match premades against other premades. This means, that a premade can effectively reduce their score by queuing up with the same profession.
Am I correct so far?
Is it really a good thing to include the score based on profession in the team? Last meta I had a big advantage if I ended up with multiple bunker mesmers or revenant. At the same time I had a disadvantage ending with a warrior in my team. Also, when I already had a bunker mesmer, I was indifferent between having a thief or a shatter mesmer.
Do you have a metric how many players, who end up having the same profession multiple times on their team, relog? It can imagine, that this also highly depend on the profession.

Overall
The patch is good / went in the right direction.
Lunar Festival
I really appreciate, that you now only need 20 interrupts. (The achievement from last year was one of the biggest criticism I had.)
I heard people still had the “world is full”-problem when attempting to join the dragonball arena. This problem first occurred with the wintersday instances and sady it is not fixed yet.
Shatterer Rework
I heard a lot of good things about the fight but sadly it was not what I expected. I expected a Tequatly-like fight from the difficulty. Something that will not die on the first try but is still manageable with pugs.
General PvP Balance
Removing the tanky pvp amulets was a great choice. It will definitely increase the action in every match. I also really appreciate the addition of Tybalt, he is one of my favorite gw2 heros.
Balance (PvP perspective)
This is the part where you really screwed up and therefore, I want to describe some problems more in detail.
- General:
The power-creep is still in place. The elite specs still outperform every other trait line. E.g. why was ‘rapid regeneration’ from the scrapper not shaved down?
- Chronomancer
Chronomancer could only be played as Bunker. Every other spec was outperformed by other professions – e.g. there was no reason to pick a power shatter mesmer for your team. Now you butchered alacrity (which was a good choice to resolve other problems) but at the same time, you did not adjust the rest of the mesmer/chronomancer.
Why did you seriously expect? The power shatter mesmer could not stand his ground with the pre patch alacrity, so what should he do now? Why was there not a single buff to compensate him?
- Ranger
Bristleback Damage is still too high.
Longbowranger is still not playable after the removal of the +dmg modifier in the Marksmanship traitline.
- Necromancer:
The buff went completely in the wrong direction. He was already in a good spot but now he is just broken. He still has some design flaws that should be adressed immediately. The necromancer hard-counters every other condition spec with his condition transfer making every other condition build unviable. The necromancer should be able to get healed in death shroud (ofc it should be balanced around that fact).
Primoridal (S1) & Exalted (S2) & Illustrious (S3) Legend

So again, you might not like the idea, but MMORPGs aren’t for people who want deep or focused team-vs-team gameplay on a small scale. They’re just not. Period.
I completely disagree. The group fight in gw2 already feels way better.
The only thing where mobas are better is regarding balance. The balance in mobas is more “honed” because balance is far easier there.
- A champ is OP? Ban or counterpick.
- You have more options to balance. E.g. If a champion is too strong in early game, you can adjust his scaling. If a certain role is too strong, you can adjust the gold cost of an item.
Ofc this is not an excuse why the balance in gw2 is sooo off. I completely agree that bunker mesmer was too strong and needed to get butchered but why didn’t they buff every other aspect of the mesmer at the same time?
The goal should be, that EVERY trait / skill combination is viable. So why are unused traits and utilities not constantly buffed?
Primoridal (S1) & Exalted (S2) & Illustrious (S3) Legend
Either way, 300 healing power should result in more than 60 health.
0 Healing Power: 2600
300 Healing Power: 2840
=> Healing Coefficient is now 0.8
Sidenotes:

Healing Power you get is a bit laggy. It takes ~a second before you get the +100 healing power after spawning an illusion.

That’s definitely not a gamechanging amulet. It’s nowhere as problematic as […]
These amulets were never the problem, very specific builds abusing of them were
With the soldier amulet we are not talking about broken.
I’ll quote myself again:
Fighting other players that are too tanky is not fun

Primoridal (S1) & Exalted (S2) & Illustrious (S3) Legend
Having alacrity at 66% was a big design mistake in the first place, that just showed how inexperienced our balance team is.
It was such a huge boost in every aspect of the mesmer, that is made chronomancer mandatory, leaving no room for future elite-specs and other build variations.
The sad part is, that the mesmer needed that boost.
Why haven’t the devs even tried to compensate the mesmer for the huge alacrity nerf?
They could have started with increasing the alacrity uptime from ‘Flow of Time’ or ‘Improved Alacrity’ again to break our fall. From my perspective, this might not be enough and they should improve the core trait lines but at least, we could see that they attempted to not only butcher the mesmer.
The same problem with ‘Well of Precognition’. It nerfed in the past, now they butchered it but at the same time did not revert some of the nerfs from the past. Why does it still have the long casting time?

Can you please elaborate, why you taint your match making algorithm with other variables instead of only using your glicko2-based mmr?
From an outside perspective, it looks like you don’t trust your mmr, that it will provide us with good match ups. What else could be the reason to include games played?
Why should a player with 200 matches not play vs one with 2.000 when the MMR system rates them equally?

“dragonhunter elite specialization has proven to have a very solid impact in many areas of the game” -Karl McLain 2016
We need to have a serious talk about this quote.
The quote is correct. The DH a strong impact to the game.
So why then has Dragonhunters been neglected?
Dragonhunter/Guardian are currently completely worthless in competitive PvP.
It really depends what professions you are facing. It has nothing to do at what level you are playing. The top 4 team on EU are using double rev and double mesmer…. well, DH can not compete with rev. But DH is better than basically every other build/profession-combination.
The DH is a result of the power-creep that happened with HoT and which needs to be reverted. It is great from the devs, that they are also taking a look at the DH.
Can the DH compete in season two? We currently can only guess how the meta will look. The only thing we know, is that the bunker mesmer is gone. Let’s wait till the patch hits and we played a few games, than we’ll complain.
Or is it balanced around Amber players who AFK in Traps then flood the forums with immature complaints?
I’m saying that as a player who reached legendary: The division currently has nothing to do with skill. Please inform yourself how the league system is currently working and what is getting changed with season two.
For years Guardians have been ignored, enough is enough.
You might feel that way and if you do, here have some hugs <3
But not, it is completely wrong. Guards have been dominant through the years. First as bunkers and prior hot as burn guards.

Would blur be too strong if it would not allow to cap
The problem is, that the Well is not the only source of blur. If blur would prevent capping, than you can throw blurred frenzy into the trash can too.
Maybe a third effect, that grants evasion but prevents capping?
Personally, I think skills that prevent cappping are not fun. E.g. last time I got focused on point, placed the well of precog on the edge of the point, that I could barely stand inside, but that at the same time my teammate had enough space outside of the well, to prevent that capture. Guess what… my teammate managed to jump right into the small area -.-
Primoridal (S1) & Exalted (S2) & Illustrious (S3) Legend
Seriously those nerfs makes the mesmers useless. mesmers have one the lowest dps which was quite balanced with alacrity. but now they just make the class more and more useless.
Alacrity was not able to be balanced. It juts broke the game too much. It is a great move to reduce it’s effectiveness.
Ofc they need to buff every single other element of the mesmer to make up for it. It will be a big challenge for them to do so, but I haven’t lost hope yet
They have said, that they have ton of changes on the way and the one they told us about are just the top of the iceberg.
Malicious Sorcery – This trait applies attack speed while wielding scepter. Increased from 15% to 20%.
This is really a joke. I hope that’s not the big scepter change they mentioned in the blog post.
Primoridal (S1) & Exalted (S2) & Illustrious (S3) Legend
From a pvp perspective: I like the change.
Blur was too strong. Distortion was fine, but it limited it’s use.
Aegis MIGHT be the right move to keep it’s defensive nature, improve it’s use but at the same time improve the counter play (you will get hit if multiple players are attacking you and you will be opened for boon cleanse).
In the end, this change will not be decisive if the mesmer is viable or not. The alacrity changes are the big hit we are taking. I really hope they are improving the rest of the mesmer to make up for the loss.

The bunker mesmer needs a nerf and he will get one.
But this thread is a great reminder, that balancing is not easy:
5 – “You cannot capture buffs on temple or the orb on spirit watch while under the effects of blur”
You just made the mesmer completely useless trash tier. GJ.
My personal suggestion:
- Remove Sentinel Amulet.
- Nerf Durability Runes to only give +15% Boon Duration instead of +25%
- Adjust the uptime of Alacrity, that you have to pick either Alacrity on shatter or Alacrity on wells.
Your logic is impeccable, I’ll make this simple for you.
Key – Bold text means sarcasm.
I never knew that the sole purpose of chronomancer was to cap buffs under the effects of blur, everything else is unimportant, my mistake. Also after reading your “personal suggestions”, I’m under the impression that you never even played the class before. because if you did you would know that alacrity on shatter, aka “flow of time” is a minor passive so you don’t even have to trait for it. Next time you make a “suggestion”, make it a useful one.
Countless
Not only that you are known as the bad example of the state of mesmer in NA, you also can’t read.
“Adjust you have to pick either Alacrity on shatter or Alacrity on wells.” just means, that you currently don’t have to choose, because Alacrity on shatter is a minor. THEREFORE ADJUST THAT, that you HAVE TO choose.
Maybe in NA there is a place for a bunker who will lose every captures point, but not on EU. Please give me a single example where a bunker is good even if the loses every contested point.

But you need to take streaks of wins and losses into account. That is what really happens, and we can’t ignore that just to make the calculation easier. Because then we’ll get a wrong answer.
Since my over exaggerating calculation is not good enough, I wrote a VB-calculation to consider the safe spots (programm should be correct; I am still only considering 1 pip per win / 1 pip on loss if not on a safe spot).
Results over 1.000 simulations:
min: 38 games
max: 394 games
average: 134,195
to get through emerald (5 tiers).

How many games will it take to progress through emerald at a 51% win rate (20 pips)?
(For the purpose of calculation let’s just make the whole math a bit easier. So let’s just assume 1 pip per win / loss and the games you loose don’t happen on the safe spots.)
51% win rate = 51 wins and 49 losses in 100 games = +2 pips per 100 games or +1 pip per 50 games.
To gain 20 pips you need to play (50*20) = 1000 games.
1 game takes about 10 minutes (between 8 and 15, can’t really be accurate here, I would get 12 on average, but let’s just take the more favorable 10 minutes) + 5 minutes queue time = 15 minutes per game / 4 games per hour.
To achieve the 1000 games, you need to play 250 hours.
(If you every day the whole season, you need to play more than 4 hours every day to climb with a 51% win rate through emerald.)
Including the safe spots would ofc reduce this.

Update from reddit:
GrouchJust texted Evan about the profession MMR. It is indeed disabled, so profession swapping has no effect on your matches. I’d chalk this one up to correlation =/= causation. I do agree with you about the wiki though – I’ll see if we can get it updated.
GrouchI verified with him today that it is not. You might be referencing his recent reddit post where he stated that profession MMR is tracked per arena, which is accurate. We still track profession MMR for everyone, but we do not currently use it for the purposes of matchmaking due to some of the reasons the OP described.

The time gate I’m referring to is the daily pvp matches. There’s is no way to bypass this. This is the very definition of a hard time-gate.
My personal suggestion (maybe a dev is reading this thread): Change the daily pvp matches to weekly pvp matches. Same time game, but much more user friendly.
